The Building Podcast is moving into an allied sector to construction for Series Two. The energy sector is crucial to the generation and distribution of energy, which is the lifeblood of homes and industry. The whole market is changing rapidly as we move from a centralised carbon-based generation model to a de-centralised renewable model. Couple this with the huge growth in demand as the UK heads towards its net-zero target, and moves heating from gas to electric and transport from petrol to electric and we can begin to understand the challenges ahead.
The Building Podcast will examine the solar PV sector, which is the fastest growing energy generation sector worldwide and which is the topic of a UK Government Taskforce. The Taskforce was asked to plot the course to a doubling of energy generation by 2030 and The Building Podcast guests will explore many of the elements that will drive successful deployment.
Our first guest is Sonia Dunlop, who is the CEO of the Global Solar Council, overseeing deployment worldwide. Sonia explores the worldwide demand for this technology, noting that it is the cheapest form of energy generation that can be deployed effectively anywhere in the world. Sonia explains how the UK compares to other countries, remaining very positive about the potential of UK businesses to export their skills and experience worldwide to an installation market that will hit 1TW per year by 2028. This is a great podcast to understand the benefits, opportunities and appeal of a tried and tested technology that plays a major role in achieving net-zero worldwide.
