The UK Government has recently published the Solar Road Map, which is a guide to all stakeholders in the solar sector and further afield , on how the UK will achieve the solar element of Net-Zero.  It looks at the five year opportunities and challenges that have to be overcome for a near two and a half times increase in solar generation by 2030.  This Road Map was the conclusion of two years’ work of the Solar Taskforce, which was a Government / Industry collaboration, which I was privileged to work on.

These podcasts are with senior leaders who were on the Taskforce, from both industry and Government and other influencers from the sector.  The podcasts aim to inform and explain various elements of the Solar Road Map to support its understanding, providing context to its recommendations.

Tim Warham is a Senior Policy Advisor within the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero, advising on solar policy and who chaired one of the five working groups within the Taskforce.  Tim was responsible for the Rooftop Group that looked at the issues surrounding deployment on all types of roof, from the residential to the commercial, from social housing and public buildings to commercial warehouses dotted around the UK.  Tim talks through the work of the Rooftop Group, touching on the issues that exercised the group, from encouraging large warehouses to deploy solar to the funding of social and low-income homes.

Tim believes that the Solar Road Map is just that, a map that applies to the public, commercial Britain, politicians and media that extols the benefits of solar, busts many of the myths that surround the technology and which will accelerate the deployment of this clean, cheap and green energy source.  Tim recognises that roof top solar, more than any other form of solar, can demonstrate the value of renewable energy generation and help change people’s behaviours and mindsets.

Listen to this podcast if you would like to understand the context of rooftop solar and the opportunities to deploy solar panels.  For more information please read the Solar Road Map.
