The Solar Road Map, that promotes the growth of solar generation to over 50GW by 2030 has been published. It identifies the opportunities for industry and Government to achieve this target and plots the challenges that both parties must overcome. There are four main chapters, including one on people – how many do we need and where will they come from, coupled with ensuring that they have the right skills to deliver an economic, robust and secure generation.
Gemma Grimes is the Policy Director at the Solar Trade Association, SEUK, representing companies throughout the solar value chain. Gemma was the Vice-chair of the Skills Group within the taskforce and therefore has a great knowledge of the discussions, debates and objectives that this group discussed in order to support the industry. This interview looks at the people challenge across the full breadth of the sector, from planning to maintenance, identifying ways to bring people to the sector and to ensure the quality of skills available to businesses.
