The Solar Taskforce, a joint UK Government and industry collaboration has just published it long awaited Solar Road Map. This charts how the UK will grow solar generation to over 50GW to meet the targets of clean power by 2030 and net-zero by 2050.
Ross Grier is the Chief Investment Officer for Next Energy Capital, one of the large global investors in renewables. Ross was on the Taskforce, ensuring that the voice and requirements of investors was paramount at all times. His interest is ensuring that targets are fundable and that investment risks are reduced as much as possible.
Ross talks about the investment market and the attraction of solar to his investors. He discusses the role of Contracts for Difference, which is the Government mechanism for support in the sector and why investors are looking for quality developments that are reliable and perform as designed. As Ross says, no funds then no solar development, and we are in an international market for funds.
