Energy management and carbon reduction are becoming increasingly important to designers, operators and maintainers of buildings. The costs of operating a building are a significant part of the lifetime cost and the whole life carbon calculation for a building. Managing these, particularly in multi-occupancy buildings is a real challenge, dealing with variable demands on one side and changing tariffs and availability of supply and opportunity on the other. Mix in some old and ill-maintained plant and the challenges on the FM team are considerable.
Brad Pilgrim operates Parity from Toronto in Canada, providing these services throughout North America. He has tackled the multi-occupancy residential market, offering a guaranteed service to manage electricity and gas supplies on behalf of residents. His services include careful timing of supply, ensuring that water is hot and power available only when needed, through some careful application of planning software and AI reviews. This allows a reduction in lifecycle spend as the equipment is not forever on, as well as savings on utility costs. Parity also work in the Demand Side Response, offering to reduce demand, on behalf of their customers, to enable an over-loaded grid to reduce its risk of failure.
The North American market has many similarities to the UK market. Listen to hear what these are and the direction that many energy users will have to follow. Listen also if you want to hear about net-zero progress in North America. Despite the changes at presidential level, many states and companies are still keen to do the right thing and reduce carbon emission and save money.
