One in four employees in the construction sector identify as neuro-divergent, meaning that they believe that they think differently, their memory works in a different way and they communicate differently to the norm.  These people may be neuro-diverse, responding in a different way to the stimuli that we use at work and the traditional management techniques that used to be commonplace within the sector.

Sara Barnes, Pre-construction & Marketing Manager at regional contractor Interclass has been steering a programme of training on neuro-diversity within construction.  She has been on her own journey of discovery and in this podcast she explains the value of diversity within the industry and the tangible benefits of addressing this diversity in the way that we manage our fellow workers.  Sara is passionate about the industry and believes that if we can treat people as individuals, providing reasonable measures to support effective and efficient working practices, the companies will reap the rewards.  Her message is really important at a time when the sector is short of some 250,000 people and we have some of the worst mental health results of any industry.

Listen if you want to be positive about the outlook for employing people and want to better understand the power of thinking differently and how to manage it.
