Construction prides itself on being a front-line meritocracy where every one has a crucial role to play in delivering successful projects. In any meritocracy there are bound to be those who are more equal than others and clients fulfil this role. Clients set the environment in which we all work, the priorities through which the supply chain is procured and the management of risk, all of which determines the success of a project.
Julie Bell-Barker is the Head of Construction Projects and Works for the City of Wolverhampton in the West Midlands. She is responsible for the whole lifecycle of non-residential buildings within her city, an awesome responsibility and opportunity to influence the successful development and maintenance of buildings within Wolverhampton. Julie is also a director for Constructing Excellence Midlands and has been promoting best practice regionally, recognising the value through out the supply chain of well executed and delivered construction projects.
Julie talks about her priorities and how she deploys her experience and expertise to deliver best value for the residents of the City. Her focus on accurate specifications, allowing fair tendering that supports innovation and local content allows her to ensure that her projects deliver the best life-time result for each individual project.
