What starts as a simple family day out quickly turns into comedy chaos. In this episode, I share how Guy and I set off to run the Clacton 10K with our little ones in tow – only for him to accidentally run a half marathon with a boombox on his back, while I pushed the buggy for the 10K. We talk about how running became part of our family life, why the farm is the perfect training ground, and how our love of running sparked the idea for the annual Pumpkin Run. Expect family stories, fitness fails, and the behind-the-scenes of life as a Pumpkin Patch Mum.

Hello and welcome to another episode of the Pumpkin Patch Mum podcast. Now on the Pumpkin Patch Mum podcast I normally talk about pumpkins and what we're up to in terms of harvesting and the patch and other random jobs that I do in my day as a Pumpkin Patch Mum. However today I'm talking to you about something slightly different. So Guy and I are both runners. I am a newer runner than him, admittedly, But what we have done today is we have both run a Clacton 10K. Well, actually, I say we've both run the Clacton 10K. What I actually mean is I ran the Clacton 10K, pushing our daughter around the course, and Guy accidentally ran the Clacton Half Marathon whilst pushing our son around, and whilst having a boombox on his back. He missed the turn off for the 10k. So Guy and I are both runners and this is something that we like to do together and we like to do as a family. And we're lucky enough on the farm to be able to run around the farm, which we love. I try and do it, you know, two or three times a week. So that is really where the pumpkin run originated from. So we are this year again opening the farm for one day only for the pumpkin run where people can come and either do a family 1k, a 5k run or a 10k run around the farm. Now it's really good fun, we have lots of things to do afterwards and it's just a great way to spend time with your family. So Guy has always been a runner. If you ask one of his key achievements from school is when he broke the record for running the cross-country. I however was not like that. If you speak to my parents they will tell you how embarrassingly before I joined secondary school we had to do some practice cross-country runs because I was that bad at running. Fast forward a few years and I decided having had my daughter that I needed to get into shape so my sister-in-law and I started doing the count to 5k She gave it up, I continued, and here we are two years later, and I've now officially caught the running bug. I've done a couple of half marathons, and this year I even ran the London Marathon, which was a real achievement. as for someone who started running in May 2023. It's a sport that Guy and I both do together, so we will run happily around Colchester and locally, but we also have been known to use a holiday as an excuse to get some running in as well. So we have become that sad running family. So yeah, so something that I don't always do, but always working, shall we say, is practicing for the pumpkin run.
