Creative Roots Podcast
Creative Roots Podcast is where stories begin. Every week, host Tae sits down with artists, entrepreneurs, and makers of all kinds to explore the journey before the spotlight—when the vision was still raw, and the hustle was rooted in passion, not popularity.
We go beneath the surface—talking consistency, growth, setbacks, and the real creative process. Whether you’re an early-stage creative or someone finding your way back to your roots, this podcast is here to inspire, reflect, and remind you why you started in the first place.
🌱 New episodes drop every Thursday.

One year in.
In this episode of Creative Roots, we kept it simple. Just a real conversation between us reflecting on the journey so far.
We talk about the moments that stood out, the guests who left an impact, what we’ve learned along the way, and how the podcast has grown over the past year. From the early days to now, this episode is about taking a step back and recognizing the process.
If you’ve been rocking with us since the beginning, we appreciate you. If you’re just now tapping in, this is a solid place to start.
Year 1 was about building. Year 2… we’re stepping into something bigger.

This ain't my chair.
SPEAKER_01You know your chair?
SPEAKER_00Mm-hmm. They had a different um.
SPEAKER_01Oh, because you don't warn the springs out in them? No. You always sitting down the work, y'all.
SPEAKER_00Mine's is still fluffy. What? Fluffy. Yes, I just made that up. I'm gonna call Webster. Get him put in the dictionary.
SPEAKER_01You improve this side. Thank you. This side looks so much better now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, dude.
SPEAKER_01I like it. I would like to thank Tay for spending the money on this divider. I would like to thank myself for going to pick it up.
SPEAKER_00I would like to thank you for providing the space.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. I would like to thank Dina for finding it on the marketplace. Oh, my ankles ain't ashy.
SPEAKER_00Oh. Shout out to Dina G. Right. Adjust it. Yes. Quickly. Yes. I don't want y'all all up in the. So listen, y'all. Today, today, today, we are here really to just say, thank you. I'm trying to adjust this point like I am talking. Yes. Asta Mignana. We're done. That's it. Yeah. See you tomorrow.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I'll figure that out after the fact. Yeah, yeah. It took me a second. You know, my translation, my Google translator up here is a little slow. Yes.
SPEAKER_00But no, seriously, we just want to say thank y'all. Um, we released last week episode 52. That is a year's worth of episodes. Yep. Um, the reason it does not line up with our year of doing this is because what, two, three weeks we released two episodes each. Listen, your boy was backed up, and uh somebody was getting fussed at about it. So it was like, hey, we we gotta get these episodes rolling. So we did. And uh, yeah, so shout out to Uncle Mark. What's happening? Yes, listen, y'all. It's been a year, man. How do you feel? It's almost a year.
SPEAKER_01Technically, you did the first shoot, the first recording a year ago, April 1st or 2nd, something like that.
SPEAKER_00April 2nd or something like that, yeah.
SPEAKER_01Hey, I think it's dope, man. I love seeing what has been uh taking place since the first dropping.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, yeah. I like seeing the growth. I love the fact that people still reach out and contact us to all right. Okay, so I I thought it was just me because I am sitting over here, like, hey, uh yeah, you might need to bring that just a tad bit closer, just a tad bit. Oh, oh, that's all we got.
SPEAKER_01Oh, that's probably loud, but listen, it is hot. And I turned the air on right before you got here, though, because I'm like, hmm.
SPEAKER_00And it cut itself off.
SPEAKER_01You don't need that light bill. Nah, but it's abnormally hot, you know what I'm saying? 90, what was it yesterday? 93 or something like that?
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it was 90 something. I had uh I actually put on a pair of basketball shows. I ain't wear sweatpants to the silent business partner.
SPEAKER_01Even though this is, you know, shorts and a short sleeve, it's still sweat, like the you know, sweatsuit or whatever. I'm hot.
SPEAKER_00Like sweatpants.
SPEAKER_01Sweatpants, yes, that's the word I was looking for.
SPEAKER_00And because I'm I'm I'm just I just leave the house. Like I check the weather when it's cold. When it's hot, whatever, it doesn't matter. I can wear pants, but your boy got on black jeans because that is part of my creative roots outfit. But I tell y'all what, these it's getting really coming time.
SPEAKER_01My knee and my finger is all in your shot. That's weird.
SPEAKER_00My bad. And the fact that I'm oh, yeah.
SPEAKER_01You just sit like so. I I pulled the set up further away, well, the chairs up further away than they normally sit from the set. So that's why the angles are a little bit off. But I think it looks good. I think it looks good. That divider show pop. It does, it makes this side look so much better because I did not like sitting over here. Yeah. But hey, I was just happy to be on camera. You know, Tay don't let me get on camera. My name is Shamar, and I'm happy to be here. Thanks, Tay. Hey, welcome back to another episode of Creative Roots Podcast. We appreciate y'all being here. My name is Shamar Tay's trusty sidekick.
SPEAKER_00And my name is Tay. Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back. Oh, yes. But yes, it's been a year, man. It's it's very eye-opening. Um, and and I feel for the clients that we do get, this is a good example of what to do. You know, 52 weeks straight.
SPEAKER_01And saying that's why you talk about people, you know, blurring the brands. That's why you just did it. You gave them reason, you gave them permission to blur the brands.
SPEAKER_00But no, this is my issue with that. You send an email to Creative Roots asking to be on Charlotte Podcast. That is where I'm like, I can understand if you sent the email to Charlotte Podcast studio asking to be on Creative Roots, I can understand that. Yeah. But backwards though, hmm.
SPEAKER_01We're intertwined, Tay. We're intertwined.
SPEAKER_00We got a very uh tightly braided uh that. Yeah, all four of them.
SPEAKER_01When I tell you, I'm so glad I was not here for that recording with them boys. Oh my god. And I'm sitting here like, Shamar, help me, please. That probably was one of my favorite ones because y'all was all over the place. I said, them boys get it honest. They just everywhere. They just ain't nobody there to land the plane.
SPEAKER_00No, and I'm like, so we're done talking about this. Yeah, we can move on. What did I tell y'all we were gonna talk about? Video games and and kids' perspective and parents' okay, you got the majority of it right. But man, it was it was a fun episode. As you can tell, I had to force Jacob to do some talking. He didn't even want to come. I was like, don't worry about it, I'll just take your brother. Then I was like, well, go across the grass and ask JL if he wanna go. You ain't gotta go, you can stay home. No, I'm gonna come. Oh, okay. And then JL Thompson, well, it took like two hours. Bruh, it took two hours because I was trying to get y'all to help me set up. Right. That's why it took two hours. And then I pressed record, and I'm before I press record, I'm like, hey, if you gotta go to the bathroom, go now. I don't edit. So everybody's gonna see you get up and walk away.
SPEAKER_01Right, right.
SPEAKER_00Do you have to go? No, all right, cool. Well, I'm gonna go and I'm gonna come back. Go come back, y'all. I press record. Jacob says, wait, dad, are we recording like right now? I'm like, yeah, we're recording. And Jay was like, Yeah, he don't edit. So I'm like, I'm definitely gonna cut this up. And y'all see how both my sons tried to throw me under the bus. Laid your face. So why did it take you so long? Because I gotta wait for things to process.
SPEAKER_01It's like, wait a minute. If you don't edit, why did it take us so long up in there?
SPEAKER_00And then Jacob came out the bathroom saying the same thing. Son. Oh, that was hilarious. I can't believe y'all. I cannot believe y'all just did me like that. Collectively. But man, we're still growing. Um, we just got a few more uh followers on Instagram, and we got a few more subscribers on YouTube. I think YouTube we're up to 164 right now. Um but the engagement does not match that 164 because we have so many people watching that are not subscribed.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_00So we need y'all to make sure y'all hit that subscribe button. Um, do more, hitting that like button, leave a comment, let us know that you watch the episode. Because I know people watch, they tell me they watch, but they don't do the engagement part, and I'm okay with that. But give your boy a subscription. You ain't gotta accept all of them. Just what is it, personalized instead of all? Yep. Click that all button. I don't care what y'all are talking about.
SPEAKER_01So that's a part of the notification bell if y'all don't know what he's talking about.
SPEAKER_00Oh, yeah, I did just throw that out there like they're supposed to know, right?
SPEAKER_01It's all good. So outside of, you know, like subscribers and stuff and engagement, I think, you know, engagement is happening as well on the end of or from the lens of creating a community. Because you've met a lot of people, you've talked to a lot of people, and you know, staying connected with them as well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I hear from almost everybody at least once a month. Because we now outside of the episodes with us and then the boys, we're talking every bit of 45. We're talking 45 different people, you know, from family to those that reached out to those that we've contacted. That's a lot of people. That's not even one a day. Right. That's like 1.2 a day. Don't don't go trying to calculate my math because I'm pretty sure it's wrong. But nobody's doing that. Somebody will.
SPEAKER_01Now they're gonna do it because you said so.
SPEAKER_00Somebody will. I can guarantee you. Landon sees this, he'll be the one to calculate. So, dad, I just want to let you know you were wrong. He'll tell me. But um, yeah, keeping in contact, building this community. Um, I still have to do the community page, and I know that's gonna be quick yet tedious. Um, so if you have been on the podcast, what I'm requesting from you all is a decent headshot and a paragraph of what you want people to know about you and your contact information. That way I can put all of that on there so they can reach out to you directly instead of asking us and then us having to contact you. We're gonna alleviate the meetle, the middleman. The middleman's gonna be the website. So I'm working on that. I'm working on putting every episode on the page. Okay. Still linked to YouTube, though. Um, and then we gotta update them pictures. But yeah, I think we're doing pretty darn good. I would agree. How y'all feel? I mean, I know we can't hear y'all right now, but leave that down in the comments. How long have you been here watching with us? Uh, what have you noticed? What would you like to see? Who would you like to see? Send us some references.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes. Tell the people. And that was the thing, how you in the beginning were reaching out, getting folks on, but then it transitioned to people reaching out to you, like, hey, I want to be a part of it, you know, this and that. So I love it.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh in the month of May is gonna be nice. And it's gonna be May. Oh my god. The month of May, we're doing um mental health awareness month, and some of these conversations are gonna get deep. Some of these conversations, all of them are gonna be enlightening.
SPEAKER_01Oh, enlightening.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, enlightening. Um definitely showed me some new things and uh making things click. Yep, understanding, you know, different things that take place. Um, the month of May is gonna be nice. And it's gonna be May. I thought it was me, not May, but exactly.
SPEAKER_01But he doesn't say me, he says me.
SPEAKER_00The enunciation of it. So listen, y'all. I I just want to say thank y'all. Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thank you. I gotta sneeze. You got who? Sneeze. A chew. He's gonna hold it. He's gonna hold it. It's gone. Oh, it's gone. Um make sure y'all stay tuned on Instagram. Um I feel that is uh the main platform that is doing a lot. Um I post that more than TikTok. Uh fussing out myself, I gotta go back and start backdating some things on TikTok. Um, I gotta backdate some things on YouTube too. So I noticed that a lot of the views we get, I think people are clicking on, they're seeing the um the short on YouTube, and then they're clicking on the actual link for the video. Okay. And I know that is another reason why I have to get back to putting that stuff on YouTube. But yeah, man, we're growing. And we're glad y'all are here growing with us. Um if you remember, down in the comments, put what episode you started watching on. What you got?
SPEAKER_01I'm trying to think of when I started watching. Bruh. No, and we got merch. Yes, we do. We got yeah, there's t-shirts and stuff because the weather's changing, so they need t-shirts now.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I'm about to um drop another t-shirt.
SPEAKER_01Uh-oh.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_01We got another drop, people.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. So we'll have what is it, three t-shirts and right now two hoodies. Okay. I mean, I'm gonna still make that sweatshirt because I keep getting asked about it, even though it's about to be hot.
SPEAKER_01What sweatshirt?
SPEAKER_00Basically the hoodie without the hood.
SPEAKER_01Oh, a literal sweatshirt. Okay, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00Literally, sweatshirt. Um, we got hats. We have hats coming. Because uh, yeah, it's that time of year too. Yep.
SPEAKER_01Well, every uh season is a good time to wear a hat from me. Yeah. Well, I'll be having to fight it with all this heart. I have no fight. This is my hair. This is me, and it's gonna be mad.
SPEAKER_00So am I forgetting something that we need to cover? I mean, it really ain't much, just quick update saying thank y'all.
SPEAKER_01Thank you, thank you, thank you, thank you. Listen, um, yeah, because I was gonna say, you know, what you want us to talk about, but you know, no, it's not that because we talk about the same thing just with different people. So it's really, you know, if they have anybody um that they want to see on the show or they want uh uh to get those people's stories out, let us know. Send it to us, send it to the web, go to the website, send them the website. What is the website?
SPEAKER_00Creative Roots Podcast.com.com. Yeah. Not dot net, not dot org.com.com and make sure you put podcasts. Creative Roots Podcast dot com. Google me.
SPEAKER_01Oh, and uh that theme song, I like that.
SPEAKER_00Oh yeah, we do have a theme song.
SPEAKER_01Yes, yes, yes, yes, yes.
SPEAKER_00I'm just so used to just listening to it randomly, you know, but yeah, I like it. You know, it uh what is it? Dylan Hot Fire. Right. If you don't know what that means, just go sit down. Go sit down somewhere. Just go sit down, Google it. Um we are getting improvements. I mean, you know, we we have these microphones. Um, we have a newer center camera. As y'all see, we have the uh divider. So we're we're improving things around here, and we just appreciate y'all being here, hanging with us, chilling with us, laughing with us, crying with us.
SPEAKER_01You know what's funny is that you're dragging this out, but when you'll do your personal vlogs three minutes and then you're gone. What's up with that?
SPEAKER_00You don't you don't understand what took what took place for that three minutes to happen. That thing was originally a minute and a half, and I was like, oh, this ain't it. Oh yeah, the vlog coming out next week is it's gonna be a little intense.
SPEAKER_01So we got to get you back so I can interview you on your creative journey with that. Because you've been consistent with that for how long now? It's been months. January. See? Yeah. All right, I'll give you uh till June. So after you get through June, I'll sit down and talk to you about that. Because he be in here recording, y'all, and I don't even be knowing he recorded. He got me on a whole video. I'm in the back yelling, losing my mind.
SPEAKER_00And I'm so used to us just randomly saying stuff and doing stuff. I didn't even think about it. So when I and when I posted it, I was just like, eh, put the caption in, boom. And I went back and watched it, and I heard, I was like, that's when I left that comment. Like, I ain't even realized you were back here yelling, out here straight tripping. Oh, that's landing. Um, but yeah, man. I think my my super excited uh episode was with them kids after I watched. I was a little upset in the process because I'm like, y'all are not giving me what I asked for. Um, y'all see Dom came back. So that was dope. Um, I'm trying to get a few more people back. I know we're gonna get P.O. We're gonna get him to come back. Okay. Uh so if it's anybody that y'all want to see come back, let me know. Let me know. Let us know. I'm gonna see if I can get Takor to come back.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah. I saw her this morning.
SPEAKER_00I did too. How? Sway? Remember when I said I was on my way in?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, when I got out of the coming out there. I was wondering what took you so long. Because I was about to leave. Like I'm about to do now. Hey, yeah. Again, thank y'all. We would like to thank uh y'all. Oh, y'all. Come on, my bad.
SPEAKER_00I was going with what's normal. My bad.
SPEAKER_01We would like to thank y'all.
SPEAKER_00My bad.
SPEAKER_01So, yeah, appreciate y'all tuning in. Make sure y'all tune in on every Thursday. Tay ain't missed the Thursday yet. 9 a.m. 9 a.m. 9 a.m. Or you can watch it whenever you want to, but it's definitely gonna be out there Thursday at 9 a.m. But we're as always, we appreciate y'all tuning tuning in.
SPEAKER_00That's it. I got nothing else. That's all I got. I got nothing.
SPEAKER_01Did you ever tell them who you were?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You sure? You said you was just this for the second or something. I'm gonna tell you. Welcome back, welcome back. Oh yeah, welcome. Yeah, see? So listen, y'all. We game ready to get off of here. We got other things to take care of. We got things to do today and tomorrow. Um let it speak. So yeah, we out. Peace.
