So if there's areas that are already jagged, it doesn't fix that. So that's something that I'm going to talk to the installer to his opinion, that you know what he thinks and I'll bring it back to you guys and we'll make a final decision on how we want to handle the blade rounds. I replaced all the wall plates today for electrical outlets and wall switches to make them up to date, because some look like they're from the 1970s. And we even had a. Yeah, I had to replace parts on the washers and I think we've had them for six years now since when he moved in that you know I had I bought him before and then we moved, brought him with us, so we make them six to seven years old, the washing machines junk. We already had somebody come out and look at it. He says keep running it until it dies, but it would be too expensive to repair six years old.

I would recommend we don't let them stop their show until after April 1st just because of how wet that field is come March and having the horses out there early. We do have a schedule attached on there as well for a cleanup day in March 29th. I have no issue with that, but as long as they keep the horseshoe in until after April 1st.

They do have a lot of shows Nevada's Saturday's in as well.

Which we no longer have the Sunday league there anyway, so it's pretty much wide open on the weekends. Their leagues have expanded. They're looking for more space for softball, really, yes, so that's exciting. Yep, and no fee. It really jumped, especially the softball program. A lot more team employees, power to the people.

You'll see the next three permits. Before we get into them we have to figure something out real quick. It's for the GR Girls Lacrosse. Two out of the three permits they presented is for using the Bettencourt Field. I know we've talked about what we want to. You know, throw around some thoughts. Are we going to leave the Bettencourt field open this spring? Do we want to close it? And if we do keep it open, do we just want to allow for games on Sundays and that is it, and then it's shut down the rest of the time? They're asking for two to three nights of practice on one of their permits for K through fourth graders to practice on the field.

We've kind of gone back and forth. We talked about this a little last fall. The only way we're going to get that field back to where we need to do it is to really kind of shut it down. With that being said, it's a town field, it's not just a football field. So everybody has to be willing. If one group's going to sacrifice, other groups have to sacrifice as well. We have to keep this fair. Yeah, on the other, hand.

On the other hand, to your point, the only way we're going to get it back is if we shut it down for a while. You know, especially that middle part of the infield I didn't mean infield, excuse me Middle part the 50-yard line it's never going to come back with people running on it constantly and that's gonna go for football as well come the fall. When we tell them that's what we're practicing out there, we go by on October 1st and the sun's down and they're out there practicing and I've spoken to them. So we have to look at what do we want to do? I personally believe we've got to. What do we want to do? I personally believe we've got to. Again, being the town field, they have the right to use it, but we've got to get this fixed.

Because they can. If we just want to allow them to play the games on Sundays because normally it's from April 1st to June 1st Maybe they have three or four home games and that's it so I could offer them practices at the South School outfield, because nothing's going on there, so they can practice those kids over there.

Yeah, they want to keep everybody down in the ball fields because it's personal the families. You got to keep one key here, one kid there. It's not easy. Everybody's in the same area. Yes, um, my opinion is, if we're gonna rest the field, who's paying to have a repair? I think the people that caused the damage should repair it, and if they don't wanna do that, I don't know, because, again, we really can't do much during the school day.

I mean, the school uses that field for gym class, for the field days, things like that. So really the only time it's going to get full rest would be the summer months, and then we could run into drought conditions, water restrictions, things like that. So that's a whole other can of worms that we have to think about. So I agree with everything you just said, chris. Other groups are gonna have to help step up to help us win.

yeah, yeah, I mean maybe we can. You can start some communication with the Giants and basically ask them. You know, ask, basically ask them listen, the field's damaged. Your program's the reason for the damage. We need to shut the field down during the summer so we can try to repair it for your fall season. Is that something they're going to be willing to do?

If not, then it is what it is. I mean, throw some dirt down, make it level and call it a day. So I I guess my recommendation, opinion would be open line and communication with the Giants, see where they're at, whether they want to contribute to the repair of the field that they damaged or what their thought is, what would be their recommendation to have the field in good condition for their fall season and maybe they already have, maybe they have plan and you know they just haven't communicated it because we know that happens right. They think the programs, they have this sense of ownership of the facilities that they use, which they should have some sense of ownership, but they also need to realize that it's a town facility and anybody should be able to use it.

So that would be my only opinion.

One of the issues with that is the school by lease, as that property it's basically there's while the school is in session. Yes, so we can't really tell them. I mean, we, I guess we could like start the repairs in the spring. I mean, I'll stop, it's not a giant, you do the repairs in the spring. You, I mean, start with communication with the Giants, you do the repairs in the spring. You rope off the middle of the field where the repairs are being done and the school's going to have to deal with it. Because I've seen people there last week.

You know, during school vacation there's kids there. Oh yeah, it's beautiful weather, yeah.

They were on the soccer field down there.

So I got in, were on the side. So if we did that rope off then we'd be happy. We couldn't allow for games if we if because they're in school time we got to shut the girls across would not have that field. If that's the avenue we want to go, which we can work with them on playing their games on Sundays at RMS, because we don't have anything else on RMS. Is this field still aligned? Or if BP had it, bp does use it. It would have to be to make sure they could play there. But we'd have to make sure they're play there. But we have to make sure they're not the same games as boys lacrosse. They're not home the same days. Okay, boys lacrosse goes out there at the same time. I've not heard from BP yet. I'm guessing they're gonna be here sometime over the next couple weeks because they have no fields to play. There are rumors they were gonna be playing at Hopewell.

That's where they were playing all fall season, all fall, but they still use cross country. But they still were using our field last year for baseball, softball and lacrosse and I don't know what they're doing yet. I haven't heard from them yet but normally that comes sometime over this calendar month. I'll hear from them to get that ready. So if we did get to that point and we could work out a schedule where the boys are playing there one weekend, the girls are playing there on Sundays there's no issue there and then during the week, it's just BP was using the field only for games and then we shut that field down for the summertime to get it ready for the fall, which we've been doing in the past couple of years to help it come back.

That's one option. Option two is the boys keep playing there. We offer RMS football, slash softball for their games on Sundays and then we offer you know we're going to figure out a practice schedule with them. To your point, chris, you know kid, you know once playing baseball and got softball, you know lacrosse practice you got to bring them all the way to South School. That would be the issue there. You really can't have them playing in the Babe Ruth Burke outfield while baseball and softball games are going on and things like that.

So the otherI mean when we get an answer back from them yeah, a quicker fix would be just to cut it and saw it. But then we have the problem with the irrigation yes, in the middle of the field. So maybe we need to talk to somebody about irrigation first before we even stop, because if some of the allegations were that the field wasn't getting enough water and that's why it was in bad shape, I called yes, but um, and there isn't any water down the middle of the field. But you know, is that something we should look into before we do anything to make sure that we can irrigate it so that we can keep the grass. Yeah, oh, who will?

for that. Multiple companies, you know you can't be one. You know, yeah, there's a ton of you know landscaping companies that do that. Yeah, you know. Just, you know adding results to the middle of the field. And you got point, chris, because it does run constantly. It goes overnight so we can have that field ready for games on and practice during the week.

But if we get a serious drought, like we had a couple years ago, where we couldn't even we had to seriously restrict the amount of water we put on that field, that's going to be tough as well. Because then there was people came to us a couple years ago putting another well in just for the ball fields. That's more money. We could look at the whole thing, putting a well in the cost and helping out the fields. We could just talk about putting extra zones in on the Bettencourt field.

The more I think about it, chris, the way you just said, I think that's what we have to do. I think we have to focus on the zones, because if we don't have the water to take care of that grass or sod or whatever we put down in those areas, it's just going to die and we just threw money away for nothing. So I mean, there's no easy fix here, there's no easy decision. Excuse me, but it has to be a starting point somewhere. And if the starting point is we hold off on this permit, we get some answers and we revisit it come February and we have some more information about what it would cost to get water out there, what the Giants are willing to do to help us, what even maybe be our girls across is willing to do to help us. You know, with their extra practices we got to make this. Well, we already charged them anyways because they're shots of split there.

Last time they had the World Cup and Foxborough. Remember Foxborough was a location for the World Cup 94 preliminaries. Yeah, we have team from Nigeria that use that. Did they really? They've used the Legion field to practice and I believe Foxborough was also going to be a location for this upcoming year's World Cup. Yes, they are we might be getting reached, might be getting contacted by the government of Nigeria for a practice location and they're converting Gillette over for the tournament to grass again.

I was down the dump this weekend every weekend and ran into Skip Crossman, who I run into every time I go to the dump. I don't know why. He's the weirdest thing. Who's Skip Crossman? Skip Crossman, if you're not familiar with him, has been involved with youth baseball in town for I don't know, probably 40 years. Yeah, I've never heard of him. He runs the umpires. Right now he's running the umpires. He had a couple boys I don't know if he had a girl that went through, but they're in their 30s now, but anyways.

Actually there's three One's old. I used to work with one at Parking Rec years ago. Yeah, yeah.

familiar with Bob McCabe. Yes, I know who he is Bob McCabe, so Bob McCabe was he passed away recently?

Bob McCabe was out of YVSA and, like Skip said, he would argue with anybody as to how much time that Bob had spent no children in the program, Nothing right. He's got no connection to the program and he was affiliated with Ottawa DSA for probably 30 years.

So 40 years before my time? Yeah, I think he stopped maybe a few years ago.

So Skip wants to make some type of a dedication to Bob. We didn't get into the particulars, but one of the things we talked about was something similar to what Mr Nickerson has on field five. Okay, the bench. I believe there's a stone there with a bronze plaque on it yes, yep. Behind the backstop Yep.

Speaker 2:

That's something that he wanted to see, something, a permanent structure. So something else too is that maybe if skips interested the select into recognition of water, maybe they could do something they recognize. Well, I've been the same. We can come in. Usually give a person whoever has a recognition more like a big black too yeah but that's something you could want to do also.

Speaker 1:

And yeah, I don't think bob's really going to care, because he's not with us, no, but for his family his family? Yeah, his family might appreciate kind of a wife and a daughter who's medically compromised. Um, but yeah, that's a good idea.

Ultimately the selectmen have to approve it anyways, but I just I told him that I would mention it and I can get back to him with a thumbs up if you want to get it organized let him grab the ball and run with it and then, you know, as far as I think, his first, what I would recommend his first step be, would be to contact, that would be to say which he's in touch with them all the time anyways, because I'm on my company. Yeah.

And I know there's been talk about. You know what RYPSA can do for Bob. You know the little child would be here in the end and I said you guys need to figure out what you want to do and then come talk to us. Yeah, but.

I have heard that rumor as well about a plaque somewhere around the field floor. But you know I played football. You know I was my coach in baseball. I was the coach in soccer and basketball, the old CYO back in the day. So you know I always said him and Butch Morrison were the two guys in town that Butch Morrison yes, that's the name.

I don't think I, I don't know, I don't know who he was. Yeah.

Speaker 3:

Butch was my coach when I played for the police over here. You know, like those are the two guys that did more for RYPSA. A lot of people have done a lot of things, but I don't ever think about all the work that's done. It's bogged, it's butchy yeah, agreed. So that's something we can definitely talk to Skip about and IYBSA and go from there. Alright, that's it. I don't have anything else.

She does a wonderful job every year. Just a few last things. Basketball games officially start this Saturday for the town league running for the next eight weeks. We have some new winter activities starting up and more to start up, including February vacation club. I am attending a relicensing meeting in February for our Merrill site for daycare, because that's up for renewal in April. I'm going to be sending you guys an email with the state ethics training. I just did it. Did I email it to you? Oh yeah, send, oh okay with the state ethics training.

Once we have the official school calendar locked down after the winter, we can officially start. Finally, we've sold 46 out of the 70 Celtics tickets for the game on February 28th. Anybody interested? We're going to be sending out an email. Blast out, but those will go and it should be a good time for everybody that goes. I got mine too. Yes, you do.
