The Last Democratic President

What is the Catholic right, and what is the Catholic utopia Catholics seek to build in America?

Jim Season 1 Episode 5

In this podcast I talk with Dr. Chelsea Ebin about J. D. Vance, the modern Catholic right, its similarities and differences with Protestant right wing politics, and about the Christian utopia that both Catholics and Protestants seek to built in America.

Dr. Ebin is an assistant professor of Political Science and International Relations at Drew University, in Madison, New Jersey. She teaches a range of courses that focus on American politics and constitutional law, political theory, and gender. She is also an affiliate faculty member of the Women and Gender Studies department.

Her book, The Radical Mind: The Origins of Right-Wing Catholic and Protestant Coalition Building, is out now from the University Press of Kansas. In it she examines the influence of conservative Catholic thought and Catholic New Right activists on the emergence of the New Christian Right in the United States in the late 1970s and early 1980s.
