Hello everyone, welcome  to this podcast series, Understanding the Times — A Biblical Perspective on Current Events.

In this series we will look at significant global events—particularly those unfolding in the Middle East—and seek to understand them through the lens of Scripture. The goal is not to sensationalise the news or to speculate irresponsibly, but to ask important questions.Throughout the Bible, we see that history is not random. God is actively at work in human events, guiding history toward His ultimate purposes of redemption through Jesus Christ. As believers, we are called not only to observe the times we live in, but also to discern them spiritually. Jesus spoke about this when He said we should learn to “discern the signs of the times.” So in this series, we will examine current events carefully, thoughtfully, and prayerfully—always asking what Scripture helps us understand about what is happening in our world. In this first episode, we’re going to focus on the escalating conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States. This conflict is often analysed purely in political or military terms—questions of strategy, alliances, weapons systems, and regional power. But from a Biblical perspective, there is another dimension that must not be overlooked. The Bible reminds us that behind the visible struggles of nations there is often an unseen spiritual reality. In Ephesians 6:12, the apostle Paul writes: “For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.” In other words, not every conflict is merely political. Sometimes the deeper battle is spiritual. One of the questions many analysts are now asking is whether Western leadership may have underestimated the depth of ideological conviction driving the Iranian regime. This raises a serious question: Have the leadership of the United States and Israel miscalculated the situation? Specifically, have they underestimated how deeply embedded religious ideology is within Iran’s ruling system? Since the Islamic Revolution, Iran has been governed not simply as a conventional state but as an Islamic revolutionary system. The leadership sees itself as protecting a religious revolution, not merely managing a political government. This means that the conflict is sometimes framed internally not just as a political dispute—but as a sacred struggle. Within this framework, sacrifice—even death—can be interpreted through the language of martyrdom and religious duty. And this is where strategic miscalculation can occur. Military pressure does not always weaken ideological regimes. In some cases, it strengthens them by reinforcing the narrative that the nation and the faith are under attack. External pressure can unite factions that might otherwise be divided. When we step back and view this through a Biblical lens, we recognise that something deeper may be unfolding. The conflict in the Middle East is not simply about territory or power. It is part of a much larger spiritual struggle that has existed throughout history. The Bible repeatedly shows that the land of Israel, the people of Israel, and the unfolding of God’s redemptive purposes are often at the centre of spiritual opposition. From the Old Testament through to the New Testament, we see that forces opposed to God’s purposes often arise in ways that affect this region of the world. This does not mean that every geopolitical event is a direct prophetic fulfilment—but it does remind us that spiritual forces are at work behind human history. As believers, we must learn to look beyond the headlines and recognise the deeper spiritual realities. When we talk about Iran, it is important to remember something that often gets overlooked in political discussions. There is a growing Christian church inside Iran. Many believers who are our brothers and sisters in Christ. They live under intense pressure and persecution because of their faith. Now, in addition to that pressure, many are also facing the fear and devastation that comes with war. So while we analyse global events, we must never forget the human and spiritual dimension. There are families, churches, and believers caught in the middle of this conflict. This brings us to something that Scripture calls us to do in times like these. To pray for peace. Pray for wisdom for world leaders. Pray for protection over innocent people caught in the middle of conflict. And specifically, pray for Israel, as the Bible encourages us to do in Psalm 122: “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” But also pray for our brothers and sisters in Iran, who are not only facing persecution for their faith but may now also be experiencing the horrors of war. God’s heart is for the people of every nation—including the people of Iran. The gospel is advancing

there in remarkable ways, often quietly and courageously through house churches and small communities of believers. So our prayers matter. As we continue this series, we will explore these issues further—looking at current events, the rise of radical Islam , regional alliances, Biblical prophecy, and the broader spiritual dynamics shaping our world. But in every episode, our goal will remain the same: To understand the times we are living in through the lens of Scripture and the purposes of God. Thank you for joining me. If you found this discussion helpful, please share the podcast. And most importantly, let’s continue to pray—for Israel, for Iran, and for the peace and redemption that only God can ultimately bring to our world.
