Welcome to Policy & Culture — where power meets the people.

In this episode, we sit down with Julie Tighe, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters (NYLCV) and NYLCV Education Fund, to cut through the noise and expose the real story behind offshore wind, clean energy, and the growing political backlash against climate solutions in New York and beyond.

Julie Tighe has been at the forefront of environmental policy and legislative change in New York for over a decade. Since becoming President of NYLCV and NYLCVEF in 2018, she has led efforts that helped pass some of the most ambitious climate laws in the country, including the Climate Leadership & Community Protection Act (CLCPA), congestion pricing, and the $4.2 billion Clean Air, Clean Water, and Green Jobs Bond Act.

Julie breaks down:

  • What’s really fueling the opposition to offshore wind projects
  • Why clean energy infrastructure is a climate justice issue
  • How misinformation and political gridlock threaten New York’s progress
  • What it takes to pass bold environmental legislation — and protect it
  • Why offshore wind is a critical tool in our fight against climate change

Before leading NYLCV, Julie served over 11 years at the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), rising to Chief of Staff, where she helped negotiate landmark environmental wins like the Clean Water Infrastructure Act, Superfund reauthorization, and one of the nation’s strongest electronics recycling laws.
