Our guest today on the podcast is Canadian alt-pop artist renforshort. The Toronto-born songwriter has spent the past few years carving out a name as one of pop’s most compelling new voices—blending elements of indie rock, folk, and experimental alt-pop into a sound that’s entirely her own. Influenced by the likes of Amy Winehouse, Nirvana, and Elliott Smith, ren’s genre-fluid style and sharp lyricism have led to collaborations with Mike Shinoda, PJ Harding, and Travis Barker. Last week, she released her brand new EP a girl’s experience—a bold and vulnerable collection that marks a return to her indie-pop roots, reflecting on life, love, and the messiness of growing up. While we were in Los Angeles recently, we sat down with ren to chat all about the new EP, the emotional weight music can carry, and the joy of experimenting with sound.
