Perfectly timed with the Spring Equinox and the season of rebirth, this episode weaves together Cass’s personal experiences with rabbits throughout her life — from her childhood rabbit Mooney during a time of deep emotional change, to working with rabbits on an exotic farm, raising and bonding with Galaxy and Nebula, and continuing to honor rabbit energy through her current lifestyle and spiritual practices.
This episode explores Rabbit beyond symbolism, including:
🐇 The real rabbit — how rabbits differ from hares and why that distinction matters
🌱 Rabbit as a teacher of cycles, fertility, emotional awareness, and new beginnings
🌍 Cultural perspectives on rabbits across the world, including Ostara folklore, lunar rabbit symbolism, and respectful acknowledgment of Indigenous and global traditions
✨ The deeper meaning of rabbit in ascension work — creating safe spaces for growth, honoring timing, and allowing life to unfold in phases
🖤 Personal reflections on loss, renewal, nourishment, and the many ways rabbit has appeared throughout Cass’s life journey
Cass also gently explores the connection between rabbits and seasonal celebrations like Ostara and Easter, offering a grounded understanding of how these symbols of eggs, fertility, and renewal came to be.
Rabbit reminds us that growth doesn’t have to be forceful — it can be soft, cyclical, and deeply intuitive.

Good day, beautiful souls, and welcome back to being cosmic chaos, brought to you by Cosmic Energy and Spiritual Wellness LLC. And today is our Anka and Ascension Animals episode, where we explore the animals that walk beside us as teachers of the natural world, the body, and absolutely the soul and spirit. Today's animal feels pretty aligned with the season we are stepping into. With the spring equinox approaching, or if you are on the other side of Earthly Town, Autumn Equinox, the energy is movement. It is awakening specifically for spring equinox. It is movement for rebirth and renewal. And autumn equinox is movement for appreciation and abundance. Now, today we are speaking about rabbit. Rabbits, they have been part of my life in many different ways. Some very soft and innocent, some painful, and some deeply cyclical. Growing up, I had a dwarf Rex rabbit named Mooney. Yes, Mooney, like the moon, because he had a white crescent moon shape on his hip, almost like a little cutie mark. And he came into my life during a very intense time. I was at a camp called Wolf Ridge when my uncle, who was practically a father figure to me, passed away. He crossed the veil. So actually, this is a moment where my natural abilities kicked in without my conscious awareness because I would communicate a lot with him. Now, that same time, I also got my first here at TMI. If you want to stop listening, stop listening now. All right, guys. I got my first monster ring. I got my my period while at this camp, while getting notified, my uncle, who was practically a father, passed away. And during freshly while my parents were divorced, my mother, she moved into a small apartment and I did not see her very often. Now, during that time, my brother, who is significantly older than I am, he made the decision to give Mooney away to a home that could care for him better. At the time, it felt like another loss, layered on everything else. But looking back now, I can see something deeper. Rabbit had already begun teaching me about cycles, change, and not letting go, but transmuting energy. Now, later in life, after I was married and had moved to a new state, I found myself working at what I thought was my dream job: an exotic animal farm. And once again, rabbits entered my life. I spent my days cleaning cages, feeding them, observing them, even pairing bucks and does. I got to witness some of the most beautiful things of bonding, creation, new life. And there goes the continuation of cycles. There was a pattern here. Rabbit energy was not random in my life. It was very consistent. I eventually brought two rabbits home from that experience. Galaxy and Nebula. Both had one blue eye and one brown eye, a condition called heterochromia. And they were part of a litter I was blessed to watch grow from teeny tiny babes, closed eyes to fully aware little beings. I knew they were meant to come with me. And goodness, my daughters at the time were head over heels for them. Now, unfortunately, Galaxy was lost to a predator since their enclosure was outdoors. But Nebula, Nebula lived on and experienced the next chapter of life even after my separation with in that marriage. So even though I did not remain physically connected to Nebula, I will never forget that moment of choosing him from the litter. That sense of knowing. And somewhere along my journey, I also realized something very unexpected. I genuinely enjoy rabbit as food. I know. My first experience was working at a Vietnamese bistro where I fell in love with rabbit dumplings. That moment taught me something about my body. I respond very well to lean grounding nourishment. So for a long moment of my life, I was an unconventional vegan. I say that because I didn't follow all the rules. Because personally, I do not believe bees can be tamed. I ate honey. So I wasn't a traditional vegan, but Rabbit opened up a whole different world for my physical body to enjoy meat. Now that was one unexpected occurrence. Another one was while volunteering at a wildlife rehabilitation center. So I'm shifting the narrative a little bit. I initially wanted to work with rabbits and quickly learned how delicate and easily stressed they are. There's a reason they require such careful handling. And another fascinating reason why rabies and rabbits sound so similar is a lot of rabbits a long time ago were the main rodent to have rabies. So it's always so fascinating that growing up, I've always noticed there is such a ick towards rodents. Don't go around the rat or the mouse or a pest. But there is such a glamour lens for rabbits. Oh, it's just a rabbit. It's so sweet. Unless you have a garden, then that rabbit is probably trespassing, and you will not see it as a glamorous blessing from earth. But it is ironic that one of the main rodents that does carry or has been known to carry rabies is one of the most glorified to come in contact with. So that was interesting and very unexpected to learn. Now, at another point in my life, I explored neo-pagan teachings, which I no longer follow as I now identify as an omniist. So it's not that I don't follow neopaganism, it's more that I know that's not the only piece or puzzle piece to my faithful story. But during that time, I learned the story of Ostara. Now, one version of the folklore tells of a bird caught in a storm, and this bird is calling out for help, and the goddess Ostara transformed the bird into a hare. So it could survive the winter by burrowing into the earth. And as a symbol of gratitude, the hare laid eggs. Now, historically, rabbits and hares do not lay eggs, they are mammals. And this story is more mythological than literal, but it beautifully explains how rabbits and eggs became symbols of spring fertility and renewal, especially for Catholic and Christian celebrations around Easter. And I remember thinking as a child, I was raised Catholic, went to Catholic school, and I always thought, goodness gracious, where did the rabbit even come from in all of this? Why is there a rabbit dropping off eggs during Easter? So that story, it gave me an answer. Now, today rabbits are still part of my life. I use rabbit fur in my shamanic toolmaking, honoring the life that once lived and the protection it now offers. My family is even in the process of raising meat rabbits, and we are on the lookout for a stunning Flemish pet rabbit. So rabbit has never left my path. It simply keeps returning in very new forms. So let's begin with the real animal because rabbits deserve to be understood as they truly are. And one very important distinction: rabbits are not hares. So I find it fascinating that within the Ostara story, it is a bird transformed into a hare, but along the lines of religious telephone, you know, the telephone game, along those lines, that hare shifted into a rabbit. And then now we have Easter. So I want to speak about how rabbits are not hares, how if you go to other countries, rabbits are not called bunnies. That's actually a very American thing to say. Bunny is not their official name. Hence, you have not heard me call them a bunny. So rabbits, they live in burrows underground. Rabbits, they are born blind and hairless. They are highly social creatures, and they heavily depend on community and protection. Now, hares, they live above ground. So this is another key interesting fact where I'm curious if the stories have blended from Ostara versus Easter because hares live above ground where rabbits live in burrows, and that bird that got shifted into a hare actually is going into a rabbit burrow. So there seems to be some details crossed over. Now, hares are born fully furred with open eyes, they're more solitary and they are built for speed and independence. If you know the story of the tortoise and the hare, that is why. Now, rabbits are prey animals, which means they are highly sensitive to their environment. They rely on awareness, quick reflexes, being still, and their safe spaces. So they are not weak. They are attuned. Now, rabbit in ascension work, spiritually, rabbit is deeply connected to cycles, creation, fertility, renewal, and sensitivity. Rabbit teaches us about beginnings and endings, emotional awareness, timing, and the importance of safe environments for growth. Rabbit energy often appears when something new is forming, a new version of yourself, a new chapter, a new cycle. But it also reminds us that not everything needs to be rushed, that growth happens in phases just like the litters I witnessed, just like the seasons that we all move through, and just like your own life story. Now, rabbits, they appear in many cultures around the world, and it is important to approach these meanings with respect. In some traditions, rabbit is associated with fertility and abundance, luck and prosperity, lunar cycles and rebirth, especially around springtime. Now the idea of a rabbit's foot for luck exists in some folk traditions, but it is important to acknowledge the ethical complexity of that practice and make sure to approach it with awareness and always respect. In European folklore, rabbits and hares became linked to spring festivals like Ostara. In East Asian traditions, the moon rabbit is a sacred symbol connected to the moon, medicine, and immortality, which is so fascinating because I was not taught about East Asian traditions, and the first rabbit I had as a pet I named Mooney. And in indigenous traditions, rabbit can appear as tricksters, survivors, and teachers of adaptability. Now, because I live in America but am not Native American, I acknowledge these traditions with respect and do not claim them as my own. So let's honor the real animal again. Rabbits can have multiple litters per year. They are unlike other mammals that only have one season for producing litters. They are crepuscular. So they are not most active during the day or night. They are most active at dawn and dusk. Their teeth never stop growing. They communicate through body language and subtle sounds. And they do require calm, safe environments to thrive. They are gentle but incredibly resilient. So for me, rabbit represents cycles I did not understand at the time of the cycle. Loss, growth, separation, creation over and over again. Rabbit did not show up once. It showed up in layers. And each time it taught me something new about not only letting go but transmuting, starting again, and trusting that life continues. Rabbit is also one of the twelve Chinese astrological animals. And I most certainly believe if you have rabbit in your chart, this is a very important animal ascension guide for your awakening. If rabbit has been appearing in your life, you may ask yourself, what cycle am I currently moving through? Where am I being asked to begin again? Not forget the past, but to move forward with the past. And what would it look like to create a safe and supportive space for myself to grow? Because sometimes the most powerful thing we can do is honor the rhythm we are already in. Thank you for joining me for another Anka and Ascension Animals episode. With the equinox approaching, this is a beautiful time to reflect on what is being reborn within you. Until then, stay gentle, stay aware, and trust the cycles you are moving through.
