Diogenes' Lamp
Guest Speaker Series: Ep. 6: The Ikarian Revolution
Hey everyone! For todays episode I was able to Dr. Dale Pappas back on the Pod once again to talk about an article he wrote in May of 2024 titled "How One Tiny Island Took On the Ottoman Empire, and Won". As you may be able to tell from the title of this episode, that tiny island is none-other, than Ikaria. Today Ikaria is mostly known for its big debut on the Netflix show "Live to 100: Secrets of the Blue Zones", but thats not what we will be talking about today. We will get into the weeds a bit, and drill down on how this tiny island was able to rise up and throw out their Ottoman rulers, all by themselves.
Dr. Dale Pappas is a Greek-American author and educator based in Miami, Florida and Athens, Greece. Dr. Pappas holds a PhD in Modern European History, and researches the history of tourism in the Mediterranean and the political history of Modern Greece.
