Guest Speaker Series: Ep. 7: Zourafa Isle, The Imia of the North Aegean
Hey everyone! For today’s episode I was able to bring onto the pod Konstantinos Kolokotronis. Konstantinos is an independent journalist and researcher who focusses on geopolitics and contemporary power politics in the Aegean and Eastern Mediterranean.
The discussion we had was on an article Konstantinos wrote titled ‘Zourafa Isle: The Imia of the North Aegean In” which zooms in a tiny Greek isle, and hundreds of other islands whose sovereignty is not under debate by anyone, except Turkey of course. We covered a variety of topics, like International Law, Greek Security Concerns, Turkish Aggression and Expansionism in the Aegean and the Eastern Mediterranean, and most of all we talked about why this conflict is about more than just some scattered rocks in an infinitely blue sea.
Please check out Konstantinos’s work on substack.com/@polity21blog where he’s written about a lot of interesting topics like this, and support his work.
