Welcome to the Christmas week episode of the Blitz the Bookie podcast. I'm Charlie Winkle joined by Anthony Roberts and it is Monday night, the 23rd late. we, knew that it was going to be tough these next couple of weeks with our recording schedule. We're used to recording these episodes on Wednesday nights.

With Christmas and New Year's being on Wednesday this year, we knew that we weren't going to be recording on Wednesdays and probably not on Tuesdays either the next couple of weeks. So here we are. It's Monday night. This is the best we could do. I think I can speak of us when I say that we're probably the least prepared for this episode when it comes to the picks. But luckily we don't have any college football games to pick.

There is some shitty bowl games next Saturday, but I don't think we're going to pick any of them. I don't trust the bowl games, Charlie. No, there's a lot of stuff to talk about though. had our first four college football playoff games, plenty of stuff to talk about there. got week 17 of the NFL, two weeks left in the NFL and we'll be in the playoffs in that too. So We didn't want to miss an episode. We didn't want to skip one on you guys. And to be honest, there's a lot of stuff to talk about.

So it wouldn't be a great time to miss anyways. Tough with Christmas and everything, but we're going to make it happen. got always do stuff my wife's family And then we'll spend some time with my parents and really just get to spend time with friends and family, man. You know, that's what it's about. I'm a big Christmas guy. So I try not to watch too much sports on Christmas there. I've been watching Christmas movies all day. I hear you, only watched a handful this year, but we, we watched a couple today and probably planning on watching.

some tomorrow on Christmas day. We usually let the Christmas story roll on Christmas day. Tomorrow we'll run some of the good ones. National Lampoon's we haven't watched yet, but we the Elf today. 33 minutes to Christmas Eve. It's 11.27 on Monday. We're done recording this podcast. It will be Christmas Packers just finished

Whooping up on the Saints looks like 34 to nothing. That was a lock. Yeah, I didn't even bet it. I was watching Elf. either. try not to bet a lot of the games through the week. I like some sanity and not to be locked in the game when like all the time. So try to bet on the bigger days. Well, we got two really good NFL games on Christmas day. I'll probably bet those. Yeah, probably so. Speaking of Christmas though,

I got good feedback on toy bracket, Anthony. Everybody loved the toy bracket, but I will say the committee was getting some calls from some angry toys that didn't make it. gotcha. Right off the top. I know we mentioned my little pony. Look, we're a sports podcast. We're, we're, we're guys. So we left my little pony out, but I got a

of messages from guys saying, how did we leave out Barbie? Maybe they got a couple of Barbies when they were younger. They had their GI Joes and Barbies playing with each other. That's right. There was GI Joes and Transformers at my house. I will say Barbie is probably one of the biggest toys of all times. It probably didn't get on my radar because I looked it up. 1959 is when the Barbie came out. That was a little bit before we were looking.

You know, we were kind of looking at, you know, 70s, 80s, even though we did pull out what GI Joe was in like the 60s or something. But I didn't go back to 1959. No, but GI Joe's heyday was in the 80s. When was Barbie's heyday? Like if you had to say heyday. I would say probably that. 80s? I would say the 80s or 90s, but that's when I grew up. So somebody else might say the 70s. They were bigger. I don't know. Yeah, I don't feel like they've always been big. They're still big to this day.

I had to guess, if we talk, money wise, Barbie might be up there the money that they've made. they've been selling pretty heavy for what? 60 years. You know what toy I always liked Charlie and it's not big enough to make our list, but I got a few over the years and it wasn't never my major gift, but I used to love to get a new one because I'd always lose my one from the year before.

somebody would just leave it somewhere. But we were talking about the other day, the nerve football with like the torpedo thing on it. The vortex dude. I love that thing. You could throw that thing a mile. I remember when it first came out, it was the coolest shit ever. You could throw it. They're still selling right now too. The best toy. need to get my son one. He don't even know about it. It turns a regular arm into a cane. You can throw that thing far. You can launch it. Yeah. Made you feel like a NFL quarterback with that thing.

You thought you had an arm when you got done with that. I feel like there was a story back in the day of somebody, John Elway or something, throwing that thing like, dude, he probably threw it a mile. Yeah. I don't even know how far it was. I feel like there was, maybe it was a commercial. Maybe it was a fake commercial. I felt like I could throw it like 75 yards as a 12 year old boy. You felt like you could throw that thing all the way across your neighborhood. That was a good one. I also calls about

Nerf guns. think nerf guns are pretty solid, but that's, I don't think nerf guns was isolated to one year, one big craze. And I think that's kind of what we were going for. Etch a sketch. That was in the sixties, the easy bake oven. did get messages about the easy bake oven. Once again, this is a, it's a guy's show. I don't know many of them. If you were getting the easy bake oven.

He's on you, Trav. Beanie Babies, all this is girl stuff, though. You're right. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, what about them? We talked about them. They just didn't make our Yep, they missed the cut. I'd say Barbie is the one. that could say they deserved in. we put in Furby. And Furby was huge. But Barbie was Smash Furby.

it would. Barbie would kill Furby. Barbie, We put in Pogs and Barbie didn't get in. Barbie's pissed. Let me ask you this. As a young man, a young boy, would you have some Pogs or a Barbie? You know you the Pogs. know what I would rather have, but we didn't The Pogs were hot, dude. The Pogs were, they're underrated. The Pogs were a hot selling item I don't remember what year they said that was, but it was one of those that's on almost every list.

And they were a cheap toy, man. They were a toy for the poor kids. The kids that didn't have a lot of money. They could feel they could compete with the richer kids. I Pogs was a perfect 12 seed. Yeah, I agree. Perfect. Well, Yeah. Those were the ones that didn't make it. Sorry. Maybe next year. Who knows? You know, Barbie step up your game. I'm sure there she's going to have Ken calling us. He's going to be pissed. I don't think he says nothing, man. He just hangs out.

I did when I was looking up Barbie, found Barbie was 1959. And Ken came like two or three years later, like 61, 62 or something like that. Ken relies on Barbie. Yeah, no doubt. relies on Barbie. He's a, he's a little bitch boy, but. I'm surprised Ken, like if they came out in the early sixties and had like a wife beater or something, you know.

Like Ken, what you know, was that pretty boy. T-shirt with some cigarettes up in the sleeves. I'm surprised. You know, that's who Barbie went out with. Anyway, she just brought Ken around the parents. Yeah, that's right. What about Christmas music? You like it? Yeah, I like it all, Charlie. I'm bad. I listen to it at work. I'm bad. Music to me. My wife's a Scrooge. She wants to turn it off. My kids like it,

I love Christmas music. And I like the classics. I like the Frank Sinatra's. I mean, I feel like every there's one song and somebody does it like Mariah Carey does a couple of big songs. you if you name the Christmas song, you Google it. There's usually the composer, whoever made like walking around the Christmas tree. That's the one I like. Who's the big one that does that? I know Frank is a big one. He has a few, He's a big Christmas artist.

I know Mariah Carey had a few big Christmas ones. was another artist that did Frank Sinatra, Mariah Carey? I don't know the artist. I just know the songs. I get it. Yeah. Rocking around the Christmas tree makes me think of Elvis. Elvis was a big Christmas guy. Yeah, he's a guy. So every time I think of rockers here rocking around the Christmas tree, I always think of the scene in Home Alone when he's setting everything up and acting like there's a party. He tore those guys up.

Yeah, did. he had some booby traps. for sure. McCully Culkin. That was a good movie, man. It a great movie. The first one and the second one. I've already taught my kids. They wanted to, I don't know, it was two or three years ago. They said, Oh, let's watch Home Alone three. I said, no, no, Home Alone three, Home Alone four, however many there is, they don't exist. It's only one in two. Once McCully Culkin was out of there, Home Alone was over.

Kelly Clarkson was another Kelly Clark. She was a big has some Christmas. I like me. I like Christmas music. I'm not a hater. while we're on you want to get back into this toy bracket. Yep. Let's rock and roll. Let's see what we got. All right. We got that one.

Eight matchup. This would be Oregon as the one seed against Ohio State. Transformers. That's a tough Nintendo against Transformers. as much as I love Transformers, this is not, this is a route. Nintendo. Bust that ass. I will say, I do not think it's a route. I definitely look, Nintendo is going to win. It's going to be hard to beat Nintendo period. It's the toy of our generation.

But Transformers was pretty damn big. was a few years ahead of me, I was born 82. So I was more GI Joe, but Transformers was hot. I was seven years old, probably in 89. Transformers was hot like 85, 86, 87. So I was just barely too young to remember. My brother always had them. Transformers was a huge toy. Still, you know, they made the TV, the movies later.

It's really, hate that it's going up against Nintendo because I think it would beat a lot of the other ones. But going up against the Nintendo, the original, just, you're not gonna beat it. Nintendo. Yep, I got Nintendo too. that's an easy one. I love Transformers, but you can't beat the first Nintendo. Tell me how bad, once you figured out kind of what it was and you saw somebody else playing it, tell me how bad you won in the Nintendo. I got it that first Christmas. Did you? I did.

I don't remember when I was like six years old. don't remember when I got mine, but I remember watching like that sorcery. I want that. I remember I got it that Christmas, man. I did. I was lucky and it was awesome. I only had the game that came with it, which was Mario Brothers and Duck and then my stepdad got me was like an army game.

Can you remember what I said it last week? I think I can't even remember what it was called, but those two games alone, it didn't matter. Did you have to, how long before you had to start blowing in your things that make them work? blowing? First day. First day. Yeah. Probably first day. Like what the hell is going on? Why is this thing not working? think it was just, nobody even told you to blow in the thing. You just figured it out. Like I said, it probably was the first day. I was probably like, why is this thing messing up?

Did your Nintendo ever get to the point where it wouldn't hold the tape down? You had to put another tape in there. They kind of it in place. Oh yeah. That that happened a few of ours the tape wouldn't hold down. It would hold down, but it barely go up. So it wouldn't work. So you would get it, put another tape, kind of pinch it in there. Hold it down and hold it down. That's yeah. I never got to that point. right. Four seed against the five seed. Good match up here. the bike against

Sega slash Super Nintendo. bike for Sega Super Nintendo was huge. it was the next generation of gaming systems, but then the Nintendo had already been out. You didn't have to have a Sega or Super Nintendo because you still had your Nintendo. You had your games. If you got a Sega or Super Nintendo, you had to start over with your games. You probably had all your games built up.

and that was rough in itself having to build your games up again. the bike, every kid wanted a nice bike. Even if you didn't have a nice bike, needed some kind of bike that was your wheels. Give me the bike.

I'm going to be honest here. I think the bike, I think, we seeded this a little bit wrong. I think the bike should have been the two, two seed, maybe the three seed, but it's just how it goes. The bike is up there with Nintendo. It's going to be a hell of a matchup, but I'm with you here. the bikes got to go through. I got the Nintendo. was lucky enough to get the Nintendo.

I wasn't lucky enough to get the Nintendo. Now I did get the Sega years later after it came out. I want to say two or three years after it came out, but that first year when it came Cause you had the Nintendo. I had the Nintendo. That's right. I mean, I know it was a handful of years afterwards, but look back in the eighties, my parents, no parents had it happen for me. Okay. They bought me the Nintendo and that was a big item back then. But guess what? That dented my next four or five Christmases son.

Plus the second was more the second Super Nintendo was more. I think it was like a upgrading price there I remember like thinking I'm like to start over my game system But then I think the first time I played Madden on Sega or Super Nintendo. I forget which one I was hooked the first Madden I played on Sega. I loved it. I remember having playing Madden on Sega. I seen the other day where

Some of those old games are worth money. So didn't they have Joe Montana's football first on Sega? I remembered. I remember something like that. think Joe Montana's football. was one of the first ones I remember on, on Sega. did get the Sega. So I had it years later, but when that Sega super Nintendo craze first started, I was still, I was still hanging on to them.

Nintendo at that point I had to go over to my friend's house that had the sagas and less in the Super Nintendo

When times get slow here a little bit after football's over, after basketball you know, we could do a whole bracket on Nintendo games. Video games. I think that would be a good one. Tecmo Bowl. Tecmo Bowl. That's the king. Super Tecmo Bowl. Nothing was better than Super, for a kid that was born in, a kid born in 82. I loved Madden football when it came out on Sega, but for a kid born in 82.

Tecmo bow had four plays super take my bowl had I think eight plays. There was nothing better. RBI baseball was good, but super take my bowl was RBI baseball in the black, in the black case. Yep. Yeah. I love that game. That was a strong game. had the bases loaded. I kind of liked that one too. RBI baseball was bad. RBI baseball was better. you me and Trey played that all the time. Jose can say, hit bombs on that. he did. Mark required it too.

But Jose Canseco, think McGuire was in the American League starting lineup. Canseco was a pinch hitter, I think. I think that's how it was. Or maybe it was McGuire was the pinch hitter.

But I'm telling you, the American league was loaded. My buddy always picked the national league. I used to think you dumb ass. My dad always picked the national league too. Cause he was a, he was a little bit of a red fan. Will Clark, they had Will Clark. I was always Orioles. So I was always on the American league and I agree. American league had them. Oh, can say go McGuire dudes can take go to hit it out of that screen. remember Saber Hagen, the, was that actually, yeah. Yeah. Brett Saber Hagen.

But did the American league, did they have Tim Reigns? Was that or was that on the national? No, he was on the white socks. Okay. Yeah. He was on the white socks. Tim Reigns. was a beast too. Kirby Puckett. Yeah. There was a lot of Ryan Sandberg. There was tons of them. I love the American league. We always pick the all-star teams. Did you always, or did you pick other teams? We always pick the all-star. Almost always. Yeah. I don't know if anybody else did that. Yeah. Baseball was great. I'm glad you mentioned that because yeah, I love that one. I think bases loaded might've been the more.

maybe commercialized one out of the two. I thought it was RBI baseball, but you think Base is what it was? I don't know why I felt like that, but I always liked RBI baseball better. But yeah, Nintendo, mean, Mike Tyson's punch out, I never beat the game. I never beat the game. Did you ever beat it? Yeah, I beat it, but when I was young, I played since then and it's no, it's tough, it's hard. It's all about rhythm, it's just the timing. so I didn't play it a whole lot.

But I never could get past the guy right before Mike Tyson. No, did I get to Mike Tyson one time? I know I win it. I don't even remember the order. Yeah. I know it got to Soda Pop and the Soda Pop, Homsie, or King Hippo was early. And Sandman. It started off Joe. Glass Joe was the first And then it got to the Indian guy with the little star and was thing. That was the Tiger guy. And then the...

The one guy where you hit his head back and forth and you could keep doing it. King Hippo, you'd hit him in the stomach. Yep, King Hippo. Sandman, Soda Pop, Piston Honda. Who was the guy that the oil? or is that Sand? I don't know. No, that was Soda Popinski. Okay. Piston Honda, Soda Popinski. Sandman. Yeah.

It was Sandman right before Sandman might've been right before Tyson. I'm going to look at that real quick I want to say that Piston Honda might been. Did you have to fight him twice? I think you did have had a fight when I'm trying to Piston Honda twice, maybe.

He was the one that had the big hook and he had a mean hook. as soon as you, yeah, once you start going back and forth on him, you could do it until he fell down. Like it didn't stop. King Hippo. Don't let King Hippo hit but as long as you hit him in his stomach, Then the great tiger. He's the one with the star. Yep. Bald bull.

didn't talk about Bob soda so pop in ski. Yeah, then you had mr. Sandman Macho man. Did we talk about him? No, no Macho man. He was that's the one I couldn't beat. He's right before Tyson. I could not beat that guy was his name super what was his name macho man? Was it just macho man macho man was his name. I could not beat that guy I always just wanted to fight Tyson. I didn't even want to beat Tyson I just wanted to show up to fight him but

I didn't play it when I was older. was kind of when I was younger. I think everybody can agree that was one of the top games of our childhood for All right. So bike moves on up with Nintendo in the first final four matchup. That is going to be an absolute battle. right. Two seed.

Against the 10 seed we had it. We had an upset in the first round if man the Masters of the universe They took down the Walkman. Real quick before we move on. I you know what else I got a little kick back on Transformers. I asked you I asked you what the guy's name was Was that wrong? I you said Maximus Prime. Did I say it wrong? And I agreed

We were wrong. That's right. All right. So yeah, I got some kickback on that too. But I always say stuff wrong. So get used to that. I think that's Anthony's little stick. Now he just sounds good. Especially with with names. I'm the worst third. I'm the worst. I'm the worst. I'll give you some numbers all day and I'll I'm good with that stuff. And when it comes to names, if it sounds close, I roll with it.

All right, so we got the two seed, Tickle Me Elmo going up against the 10 seed, He-Man and the Masters of the Universe. Anthony, as much as I love He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, it was one of my favorite action figures when I was a kid. went and watched the movie. I don't know when it came out, but it had to been late 80s because I was probably less than 10 years old. I remember going and watching it.

Loved He-Man, but Tickle Me Elmo was the first real craze that I remember in my lifetime. 96, I was about 13 or 14. I remember seeing it on the news, seeing it on the TV. Now I wasn't out in the middle of it, but I just remember seeing it on the news all the time. Tickle Me Elmo, can't find And people were fighting over it. So I'm going to take Tickle Me Elmo here over He-Man. 14 year old Charlie Winkle is trying to run him down a Tickle Me Elmo, weren't you?

I'm trying to get one now. had a buddy that, I think it was a Furby's, he'd get them somehow and sell them. He was making all kinds of money with that stuff. At the time he's making like a hundred bucks a pop. I was like, dude, that guy's so smart. Where's he getting these Furby's or Tickle Me Almost from? I don't know. know, cause there was a shortage. for me, Charlie, Tickle Me Almost cool. But I think you're underwriting how popular.

how big Masters of the Universe was, He-Man and She-Ra. I think it was just a pinch before our time. think it we were born in 82, maybe somebody was born in 79 or 80, might have a little better appreciation for it. But I'm gonna take He-Man and She-Ra with Masters of the Universe. well, we got a tie. I know we talked about going to the phone lines, Anthony. It is 11.49 December the 23rd.

11 minutes to Christmas Eve. 11 minutes to Christmas Eve. We don't have anybody on the phone lines. The question is, should I randomly call somebody in my phone to try to get this tiebreaker or what do we do? Do we go to the? I don't know. What do we do? Flip a coin? go to the. We got one more left. Do you want to see who you pick? We can negotiate. You want to negotiate? We can try to bargain a deal.

on the Let's see if we agree or disagree. What's the last matchup? GI Joe is the three seed going up against Cabbage Patch Kids. I'm GI Joe all day long. Who do you like in that one? I I love GI Joe, but I did say that Cabbage Patch Kids was that maybe the first ever real craze in the mall where people were fighting each other back in 83. Okay, you give me GI Joe and then I'll give you The Tickle Me Elmo.

You give me GI Joe, I'll give you Tickle Me Elmo. What do you think about that? All right. So GI Joe moves on and Tickle Me Elmo moves on. I think that's fair. I I'm picking both of the girly ones anyways with Tickle Me Elmo and Cabbage Patch Kids. I'm not going off of what I like. I'm going off of the hottest. I think that's a fair trade. Tickle Me Elmo moves on and GI Joe.

All right. we got our final four. What do we want to do? we want to do this final four now, finish it all out. Do we want to come back next week and finish out our final four and our championship? can fit, we'll finish it off next week. Some things ain't fair, but guess what? Life's not fair. Nintendo and the bike and Tickle Me Elmo against GI Joe to get into the championship of the toy bracket. You know, it's kind of like an older kid game and a younger kids game. I mean, I feel like GI Joe's were a pinch younger, Tickle Me Elmo a pinch younger than the age you would have really wanted a nice bike or really wanted that Nintendo. That is true. So

I think it's two good matchups. it is. Really? It is. I mean, those are those are four solid big Christmas items. The Nintendo on the bikes and also match. definitely epic. You know, when I look at the bracket, I think there are lot of things and they're like, this is this is a kind of good, good example of you're never going to get everything perfect. I know we're we're probably going to

We didn't put much thought into it. they know. But listen to me. We're going to probably have some arguments here. We're going to have some some. some stuff we don't like about the bracket, the real 12 team, right? No doubt. No doubt. we didn't put a ton of time into this, but we did for about 30 seconds to 45 seconds. We tried to see these just real quick off what we thought. I think we did a pretty damn good job, but.

There was a little bit, couple mistakes made. Barbie was left out and I think the bike was under seated at four. Should have been two or three, but look, you're never going to get it all the way right. There's always going to be bitching and complaining. There's always going to be that Barbie or my little bony that's left out. You can't do anything about it. So just have fun with what you got. That's right. Have fun with what you got, what you got.

Hopefully make changes in the future. We'll mark down next year that we left Barbie out. We'll look back at the numbers and we'll see if Barbie deserves in next year. all right. We, we had four playoff games, big weekend in college football. weren't great games, but they were.

four games. I won. So I was happy. I want to I, after I stopped picking with my heart, which I did on Friday night, if you've listened to this show, you know, I've been on Indiana for six, seven, eight weeks. It's been matter of fact, I remember when I got on them was when they beat Maryland. When we were over here watching a Kentucky game and the Maryland and

Indiana game was on maybe week five. they were both undefeated and I had Maryland picked in that game. that. Yeah. And that was when I kind of got on Indiana. We sat there and watched quite a bit of that game while watching the Kentucky game. they got warped. They got warped. did. They got warped. I'm going tell you what happened. Rourke.

Ohio State exposed him on it. Then Michigan came with kind of the same game plan and Notre Dame did the same thing. I like the guy a lot. He could play quarterback for me. He's smart. He's a good quarterback. He don't like pressure. He don't like somebody getting after him. They were able to protect him and can, I guess, kind of hide that weakness But he does not have a lot of scrambling ability. He don't like pressure.

and really Notre Dame look pretty awesome dude was that because they were playing Indiana I don't know but they look didn't you think they were hitting hard moving good I mean the run game looked awesome man they really did they did I'm pretty sure I said last week you know if Notre Dame made it and they were gonna be and they were favored against Georgia that I bet it all on it Notre Dame was impressive they were

Maybe I just didn't watch enough of them this year. Or maybe that was just Indiana's defense made them look that good. And that's, that's the challenge when you're picking these college football games. Indiana had a really good defensive front, but I'm not sure if there's going to be many defensive fronts. They can do a whole lot with what Notre Dame does run and they are powerful and I'm front and they're that running back. They got might be the

I guess he's not the best in the country, but he's good. He's damn good. I got a two headed monster too. They got a two headed. Yeah. Leonard runs the ball very effectively. Yeah. Love and good runner Prince. They're both tough, man. They are good. They're going up against the dogs. When the dogs are good at stopping the run, it's going to be a great matchup. It really is George is good at stopping the run. They're good at running it. Georgia has a good defense.

Well, I give a Notre Dame a little bit edges. I trust Notre Dame's offense more than I, just don't trust Georgia's offense right now. has the better coach by far. So it'd be an interesting game. Yeah. So I was picking with my heart on Friday night I learned about halfway through the game. pick with your heart in these games. Don't think too much, especially in these first round games that have these home field. I told myself.

Tomorrow on Saturday, picking the home maybe I lose, but I'm riding with the home and it worked for me because Saturday they all rolled. Best crowd of the weekend. Notre Dame. Would you agree with that place was

I liked some angles with Tennessee, but at the very end, I've thought Ohio State from the get go had the most talent in the country. I'm kind of with them in Texas right now. after watching Ohio State.

It's hard not to like Ohio State right got the best team on paper. That don't mean they're gonna show up, but they got the best team on paper. They just do. complete offense, complete defense. They got weapons everywhere. They're gonna get their rematch with Oregon, So it's awesome. But that was the first game, Notre Dame and IU. And then the second game. But you know what's crazy? What's that? Score wise, that was the closest one.

Yeah, but they got a couple of junk points at the end. That game wasn't as close as 10 points, but I'm saying it was a 10 point game and that was the closest one. No doubt, what I would say as we get into this, let's go over the games first. Let's go with the games first. let's jump over to the next game. And was my luck. This is Charlie's lock. And I will give Charlie credit I liked Penn State. was, I think I was going to pick Penn State.

But there was something in the back of my mind that kept telling me, that's a lot of points, Anthony, SMU is a good ball club. And I talked to Charlie and I was feeling like I was gonna pick Penn State, but I was like, kind of looking for a reason to pick SMU. And then I talked to Charlie and he said he really liked Penn State. And so it put me over the top. so I'm glad he did, cause they rode. game was closer than what the score said, but SMU couldn't get out of their own way. they threw two pick sixes.

if you just watch the product on the field, that's something you actually kind of played with Penn State, but the scoreboard 38 to 10, two pick sixes, the guy threw three interceptions. I think they fumbled it twice. They couldn't get out of their own way. The opening drive of the game, it was very impressive by some of you. They go down, they go forward on fourth down. He rolls out, he can run for first down easy, but a guy was wide open end zone. He throws it to him. It's a little bit behind him, but the guy should have caught it. They didn't get nothing out of

and he could have walked for a first down. I don't know if that was the right or wrong play. He probably still should have threw it. He was open, wide open. I don't know. But anyhow, that was the beginning of the end for SMU. I know you said you didn't see two interceptions last week. Yeah. The three bad ones. You said you didn't see them. Right. You saw the ones from SMU, right? Right. You seen how bad they were? Yeah. That's what two is look Right. Two guys. Just that's what it was almost exactly the same.

those interceptions that SMU's quarterback were throwing was I'm going to tell you what it was. he's just not seeing a defense like this. You know, people want to compare this or that or, know, their offenses producing it produces when they haven't seen pressure like that. When they ain't seen coverage like that, when they ain't been hit like that. when you're a quarterback, you can put up all these numbers, run around and throw until you have tight coverage everywhere. You're getting pressure in your face.

There's not enough time. He hasn't seen that. And just, he like a deer in headlights. were overmatched. They were, they were overmatched. Well, the eye test, mean, honestly, the eye test, they, Penn State didn't outgain them by much. The eye test, was the two pick sixes, I think two fumbles enemy territory. I mean,

I agree with that. agree with that. They were overmatched. I actually thought early in the game, first quarter, I thought both teams were sloppy. I'll be honest with you. First drive, SM you made, I'd bet Penn State.

I thought I was in trouble having to cover nine points while they were scoring touchdown. football going on on both sides there for a SMU's defense was a little bit better than I thought for a minute, but then There are offense, but them in a lot of bad positions Penn State is very similar to Notre Dame. If you ask me, powerful up front and in the trenches run the ball well, got a quarterback that's, you know, I know they're not the same because

Riley Leonard runs a lot more Alar. But I think those teams are very similar. I think Drew Aller is underrated. I think that guy's pretty good. I kind of like him. I don't know how good he, I don't know if he's going to be a top prospect But I like him as a college quarterback. I do I do. I feel like Notre Dame and Penn State are similar, just power football teams. SMU wanted no part of that, I feel like George is a little like that.

similar as those two are, but I think all three of those teams are kind of similar. You know, defensive teams, good defensive fronts, like to run the ball, like to play ball controlled football. that's all the teams at the bottom and even boys, either running team up top, you got Oregon, you got Ohio state, you got Texas, you got all the high flying teams up top. Well, that game was, what time did that game start? 12.

Yeah, was the first game on By about 1-15, everybody was just waiting for Clemson and Texas to come on. They were. They were. And the playoff committee was sitting there licking their wounds. The playoff committee at that point was hoping Clemson, please, us something in this game. And Texas came out on fire and looked like it was ready to be a big time ass whooping. I give Clemson some credit. Mayhem with them. They came back. They fought.

They hung in there. Did they lose by what? 14, 14. That's about what it was. It was about a 14 point Clemson tried to make it close there at the end. I Dabo did a good job of coaching that game. Did as all he could to keep it within that. I felt like Texas was the better team watching them, but Clemson did everything they could. They made a good showing for theirself and that's awesome for Dabo. But just like I said on this show, SMU didn't belong. Indiana didn't belong.

Clemson didn't belong. They didn't. They They just didn't belong. You cannot compare wins and losses. You just can't compare wins and You don't do that when you're analyzing games, when you're a hand game. You look at it, you give it the eye test, and you say, who's better? They didn't do that. Everybody was so worried. All I heard, it's great. I heard it everywhere. It's great without Alabama. Alabama makes a good showing when they're there. People say, well, they're always there.

because they deserve to be there because they're producing a good product every year. And I promise you Alabama, I'm not saying they would have won the tournament, but they could have won the tournament. None of those teams ever was going to win that tournament. what was worrying me, their offense looked really good. I thought their offense put it together, gave me more hope, and then their defense kind of disappointed. I just don't think, I like Texas. But I think me and you came they're that guy that gets all the talent, the worker that gets all the talent, but you can't rely on him.

Wanting to come to work every day. I feel like once they get a good lead, this isn't just coming to work every day. This is coming to work in the biggest day ever in the history of our company. He decommitted from Georgia and essentially Nebraska brought him with NIL money. played in Nebraska this year, He had some ups and downs, but had a good year for a freshman. I'm not saying I'm arguing that, but some people might argue that and it might be true. So you could have maybe the two best teams in the game. I like the 12. They just need to fix the format of it and they need to value strength of schedule more. That's it. Just like in our toy bracket, you're never going to get everything right. That might be true. Yeah. But I don't think that that should limit the teams that that we give a chance. Okay. How many college basketball teams on average on average can actually win the tournament each year? Maybe eight. So should it just be an eight team tournament?

And listen, I love March Madness best tournament. Just get the teams right. the argument can be made that there's a lot more luck in the basketball tournament than, you know, do you want the best team or do you want the most entertaining setup? Because in March Madness, think there's a lot of luck that plays into that,

And you know, the old playoff format with four more, the best team probably wins it more often. Yeah. But how many Cinderella's win the national championship in basketball? to win a college football playoff, you gotta win three to four games. gotta win what? Six, six games in college basketball and basketball is just different. You can get hot, you can get cold. Kentucky ran on that boy, hit 14 threes last year. There's not that equalizer in college football. A guy that's just fading away, hitting threes. Thing they got I mean and they lost what fact what about the five great wins? They got nobody else has great wins They have Mickey Mouse as we are we not counting the wins for we're not counting the win against Georgia For nothing are we not counting the where they blanked LSU? Nobody blanks LSU. Are we not counting beat Missouri 34 to nothing? There was a couple more big ones in there I forget who they were but are we not counting those are we just counting losses? People can say what they want about the Oklahoma game. They gave up one offensive touchdown. They beat themselves. It ain't like somebody just took it to them and fucking dominated them. They gave up one offensive touchdown. They had a touchdown, took it off the board. Oklahoma's fooled with four and five star talent, a good coach. It was on the road in front of 90,000 fans. I'm not making excuses. I'm just saying, yes, they lost that game. But then the other two games that they lost were super close games. They could have have won both of those games.

They have some wins that I think are some of the best wins of the season by anybody. Being able to blank LSU. LSU might be whatever, but their offense is really good. At home, for them, they blanked Missouri. first half against Georgia, they looked like they were on another level than Georgia. I think Anthony's a secret Alabama fan. No, but they were good. They were good. They had a few losses. mean, look at the, let's take somebody in the NFL right now.

You know, people lose when you have tough schedules. Philly loses, the Bills lose, people lose because all the NFL schedules are tough because they play good teams. I mean, it's the Chiefs don't lose much. Yeah, they just got, I don't know. I don't know what it is. I don't know what the answer is. Don't know if there is even is an answer. My, you know, and I'm just a nobody, but my first step would be getting rid of the conference champion championship games.

Just getting rid of those and not guaranteeing any bids. Really? I mean, let's just figure out. I don't know how you rank them though. Whatever it is, there's always going to be arguments, but just, we got to figure out a way to not have, especially not have 11 and 14 point underdogs as the buy teams in the second round. Them guys are going 100 miles an hour. That defenders job is to defend that first down line. And once you're a runner, I could care less what your position is at this point.

quarterback, running back, receiver, it doesn't matter, once you are past the line of scrimmage and running the football.

I don't even think you should be able mean, too much. You got to slide like three yards ahead of time. I mean, you got to give yourself up so far in advance that nobody even wants to think about hitting how far you need to slide ahead of time. Charlie. And so what has happened? We protect them so much. Now quarterbacks don't got to be accurate because they run around until people get open. I'm not a fan of that rule. think it needs to go. that, that would be one of the rules that I changed if I had any pool, which I don't, I'm just sitting here talking on a, on a podcast, but that is that along with the passing interference in the NFL, that rule has got to change. cannot have a 60 yard penalty. I don't know how you know penalties worth 60. No, it's not. It's not 15 yards from the line of scrimmage. Let's roll. There's gotta be. I don't think 15 is enough for pros because those guys are so good. They know when they're beat. they'll just grab on 15 yards automatic first down. I think it should be not as hard as what it is, but more than 15. I don't know. 25 yard penalty and do something new. I mean, I just don't like the idea of putting it on the one yard line up there in the end zone. I don't like that spot of the foul. Yeah.

So it could be a 45 yard pass. It's a 45 yard penalty. That's too much. 25 introduce a new yardage penalty, 25 yard penalty. Maybe half the distance of whatever the throw was. They got a pick six kind of like later in the game. really, they were, you know, Pittsburgh was already down some, but not like a ton. And then that pick six kind of see it. I don't even think I saw one snap of that game. I didn't either, but I just went back and looked.

And then Sunday, my one loser, Anthony, I had a hell of a day on Sunday. I think I went five for six on my top picks. I had six games I was betting. My only loser was Philly. Yeah. You know, my situation in the same boat, right? I had Philly cost us some money. So I went undefeated in college on Saturday and I took all those teams and parlayed it with two pro teams for like a $20 parlay.

I call them my lottery tickets. I don't expect to hit them, but they're like 18 parlay's and I just do it, you know, do one or two a week for fun just to see if I can hit one once in a while. Well, I was down to Minnesota and Philly. Minnesota ends up covering. Philly calls me. If you've seen the end of the Philly game, you know what happened. So I don't got to say no more. And I missed Philly and Buffalo, which I don't even know how Buffalo, let's don't talk about that either, but I played another little lottery ticket. I'll tell you, I played two a week and.

That was my other lottery ticket I played. And I think it was like 11 or 12 team for like 20 bucks. I showed it to you, Charlie, $19,000 parlay. And I missed Philly, which had the cover all the way up to the very end. And then Buffalo, but I only missed two of the 11 for They cost me too. They cost me. I cost my son too. And then I, then I felt bad because I let my son pick him a parlay this week and he was going like 500 bucks. And then I felt bad for him. then I thought like,

Charlie said that last night, and I thought, that's what he needed. you know, like he didn't need to hit that. And then I went on a big lecture and we were coming back from the Bengals game. And next thing you know, after giving him the lecture about life and told him a little bit about drugs, we were just having a lot of Father Sunday leaving Cincinnati, coming to Wolverine. I look up and it says like Lexington or Ashland. I went south. God, I'm an I travel a lot

I thought like that it's only something a woman could do. So the only good thing is I didn't have to go an hour back and an hour forward. You know, it's almost like a triangle. So it only cost me like an extra hour. Well, you had some time. Did you get into the birds and bees too? No, I told him that was coming. I did tell him that was coming. I said, I'll tell you about girls later. He's not old enough. So yeah, Philly shits down their leg at the end of the game. Jaden Daniels had five touchdowns.

think he had like four turnovers, two or three picks, two or three interceptions. He had a bunch of turnovers, but ended up with five touchdowns and a big one there at the end to win the game. So I think I looked at every score Washington had was a touchdown and Philly's last four scores were field goals.

thought they had it though, man. They did have it. did have it. Two and about two and a half minutes left. Washington was actually driving. Philly was only up two. I had a minus three. They get the pick. They get stopped for the first down. So it was almost perfect because if they would have got the first down after the interception, they probably could have ran the clock. I don't think they could have. I did the math. was was close. I don't think they could have. But you know how they are. They got one more first down and ran it out.

They end up kicking the field goal, going up five. I just seen it all coming together. Five for six is all I can do. That's pretty good. The only thing that saved me is that I needed Philly for that big lottery ticket. So I didn't put them in my bets on Sunday because I knew I needed them so bad. I didn't want to, it was going to be good enough. I didn't want to everything tied into them.

So that actually saved me because I did like Philly a lot in that game. So they kind of saved me, but I ended up winning a little bit on Sunday. I had a good day but I wanted that big, that big winner. They can get it. We'll get one before it's over. Lottery. I call them lottery tickets. don't expect to hit them, but I still play one here and there. The crazy eight, nine, 10 game parlay. I know they're stupid, but you gotta take a chance, right? Why not?

Minnesota snuck out a win against Seattle. That seemed like a good game all the way through. Minnesota just keeps winning. Yep. Just keeps winning. So, so what do we got now? Anthony Philly lost, Minnesota one and Detroit one. imagining that Detroit is still in first is Minnesota, is Detroit or Minnesota got the tiebreaker there? I would imagine Detroit. has to beat them.

Buffalo is minus 14 against New England. New England has the worst defense in the NFL.

There's no way that they don't. They shouldn't cover that game. I've watched New England get scored on by so many people. You're telling me one of the hottest offenses in football MVP of the league.

And it was that it was that it was the lowest piece of piece of fruit on the tree, And I freaking took it like it is like a animal taken bait from a trap or something. I knew it. know it wasn't any kind of crazy insight. I just had a feeling and that happened to be one of the games I was looking at.

Anybody in their right mind would have had that feeling what you had like anybody's been around. reason is just, I've talked about it with you before, but I think the division matchup thing in the NFL is big. It just is. You've got rosters that play together for years at a time. these teams play each other twice a year, they get to know each other and I think those games are a lot tougher than just your basic game like tonight Green Bay.

New Orleans was about the same spread. It's like a 14 point spread, but I felt way more confident in a green Bay over in New Orleans because New Orleans doesn't get to see Bay very often. New England on the other hand knows a lot about Buffalo. So that game, know a lot about everybody and get their ass kicked I know, but they got a halfway competent young quarterback that you seem to like. I like drug may, but their dad, their defense can't stop Buffalo.

They did all right with them. How many Buffalo's there that they threw the game? They threw the game. know they threw the game. I'm gonna tell you when you're sitting there watching a game and you know, you're getting screwed. It's a bad feeling. Like you're like dude, he's motherfuckers. I knew they weren't look so Buffalo. You should have hope and then I think Buffalo got up by like 7 late in the third and I had to cover 14. I thought I had hope I sat there and told no hope. Well, I told my son Rex. I said they're not covering that he said well, you mean dad like you got a whole quarter. I said they're not covering that Bob. They took the bag.

I told I could have told you in the second quarter they weren't going to come. But you know, they were up by like seven, like late in the third quarter. they only were a touchdown away from me pushing and Rex said, well, the push was a possibility, but they weren't never was a possibility. I knew they were on the take. When you're down 14 to seven, at halftime to New England, you're on the take McDermott's batting. All right. Last game. This is another big one.

That another one that's not really like a sexy game here, but it has huge playoff implications. Atlanta, who just jumps back into first place in the division with a win last week with a rookie quarterback. Pennex comes in, get the win Tampa Bay lost. So Atlanta is now back in first place. Atlanta travels to Washington. Washington is minus four and a half coming off of the big win against Philly.

Washington is 10 and five and they're still, you said they're technically still alive for the NFC East. A lot of things. think everything on would have to line up perfect. Okay. Well they're 10 and five. they're, they're definitely still in, in, play for a playoff spot, possibly the division. with that being said and out and Atlanta, like I said, Atlanta has now jumped back into the division lead. So they have to win this game.

I don't know who Tampa's got these next couple games, but you better believe after losing that game in Dallas, Tampa and Baker, they're coming back with a vengeance. Who do they got the next couple weeks? Tampa's at home against Carolina and.

At home against new Orleans. Couldn't get any easier for Tampa. Atlanta has to win. They're at Washington. I think they lose by 14. It's a tough game. I'm going to take Washington. Penix came in last week He got his first start at home against the worst team in the NFL in the giants. I don't know what he did. They won 34 to seven.

I don't think it was a lot of him. 18 for 27, 200. It John trying to lock up a top pick. They scored 34 points, Anthony. He went 18 for 27, 200 yards, no touchdowns in an interception. And they put up 34 points. Bijan had two touchdowns. They must've got a couple. Dude, they only had two offensive touchdowns.

They must've had either two defensive or special teams touchdowns. Pennix is going on the road for his first, road start. I got Washington big. with the giants losing, they're back on top for the number one pick. So they're not giving that up as writers or idiots, but I'm

Look, Washington can win out here and get a decent.

Even if they don't win that division, they could be sitting at maybe like the five seed. Washington wins this week, they lose next week. You don't want to mess with the Cowboys right now. Cowboys playing pretty good football right now. Where's that last game at? Washington at Dallas. I like Washington to win out. I like Washington a lot, a lot this week. Who you got? I'm telling you, you don't wanna mess with them. Cowboys playing good. All right, so we are not on either of the same games on Christmas Day, looks like Cincinnati on Saturday. I'm going to take all three of them, And I'm probably going to take Cincinnati and Washington and parlay those two, as I like that too. But that's what we're looking at, Yep.
