Your Will Be Done: The Garden of Gethsemane

Weekly Devotional 6.9.2025

“I can do nothing on my own. As I hear, I judge, and my judgment is just, because I seek not my own will but the will of him who sent me.” John 5:30

In the Garden of Gethsemane, Jesus was so anguished by His impending betrayal, crucifixion, and death that He too began to sweat blood. The anguish and turmoil weren’t just about the physical pain and suffering that He would ensure, but even more so, that he would be separated from His Heavenly Father as He became sin and took on God’s righteous wrath to save sinners like you and me. In His divinity, He knew this was always going to happen and was part of the unified plan of the Triune Godhead from eternity past, and in His humanity, He willingly submitted to it with full obedience to the Father. Simply put, Jesus knew what was going to happen and chose to endure it.
