Join us on Coached, a podcast where some of the world's top athletes, coaches and performance experts come together to share their stories, insights and secrets to what has made them successful in their own right. Think of this as a locker room chat unfiltered, raw and real. We dive deep into all things athletic performance, wellness, science and sporting culture and sporting culture. Hear from those who have played, coached and built their way to the top with athletes from the field, coaches and medical in the performance setting, or owners, managers and brands in the front office, while also getting an insider's view on my own personal experiences in this high-performance world. If you're passionate about sports, curious about the minds of champion athletes or looking for information and inspiration on your own journey, coach is the place for you. I hope everyone's having a fantastic long weekend. We were lucky enough to go to the nrl grand final last night and although the game was somewhat a bit of a lackluster for a grand final, it was was still phenomenal to see the two top teams play and clearly it was evident of how much of a separation these two teams were versus the rest of the teams in the NRL. I'd like to thank Kif from Enriched Sports Management. He's a fantastic player management group who's now branched into the NRL Pretty heavy in the AFL space but now branched in NRL for providing myself and me and some tickets to the game. Mate, that was very great of you and I really appreciate that when the women's awards were being handed out, some of the Panthers players came out and sort of did a bit of a pre-game kick around and warm up and whatnot. And it was very interesting to watch how cool, calm and collected the Prince of Penrith, nathan Cleary, was. I think you have to truly appreciate how hard it is to win four premierships in a row, be in five grand finals in a row and the way that he walked around the game beforehand. I spent a bit of time watching him versus the celebrations because I found that quite interesting on how someone of his caliber, with all the pressure, would prepare for the game and it was just cool, calm and collected like another day and I think that probably goes to show the level of preparation that someone that performs at that level week in, week out has. And I think for us as coaches or athletes listening to this, it just goes to show once again that if you prepare for every situation, then nothing will sort of throw you, and I think that's pretty evident in the way that he moves around. So fantastic effort there to the Panthers.
Jordi Taylor:Now this week again, trying to keep this short and sharp is I get asked a fair bit around what I do for PD, and I think it's a great question because everyone has their own preferences around what they like to do, and for a long time I probably neglected a little bit of personal PD because I couldn't find the way for it to fit in best for me. Now I'll explain a little bit deeper. What I find best is I really enjoy podcasts, I enjoy listening and I also enjoy watching videos. Now, for me to be bought into actually doing a course as such or a specific event, I find that there's a lot of friction involved. You have to go somewhere for a whole weekend, you have to you know or do online courses, and I know that both of those things are phenomenal and I'm not saying I don't do those, ironically going to the UK in the coming days to the Sportsmith Conference over there with Rob Pacey, which I'm very much looking forward to, but majority of the time my PD is actually just looking at coaches who are in a similar situation or a position that I want to be in and what they do, and I just basically do a three to four week rabbit hole deep dive into what they do. So I listen to as many podcasts as I can that they have been on any educational videos that they've got even a bit of a deep dive, old school stalk around some of their social media, because you often find that those guys, or girls as well, that have been in those situations and are doing the things that you want to do, or display or articulate the things that you want to say in the way that is entertaining and educational, then for me it's a no-brainer to not necessarily copy but emulate or look into what they're thinking.
Jordi Taylor:So, for those that are interested, some of the people that I've spent a fair bit of time in over the last several months is Les Spellman, bobby Stroop, Corey Schlesinger, fred Duncan, and the next one I'm about to dive into is the great man, al Murdoch. Now, all of those guys there have their own unique way of coaching, but there's a lot of similarities that underlie some of their philosophies. White may be slightly different to what a lot of other people do, so on the back of that if you are interested or want to do a deep dive into a rabbit hole, just pick one coach that you look up to or admire their work from afar and either try to reach out to them directly or just do a deep dive in the stuff that they put out online, because there is so much resources out there. The second thing to off the back of that and I briefly mentioned on it then is actually paying for direct advice. So what I'm in the process of now is I'm catching up with Al over in the UK, but some of those other guys I mentioned there before is actually now. I've got a big pile of lists around some of the things that they have spoken about. I've got some questions off the back of that. I want to just speak to them directly.
Jordi Taylor:So that's where consulting becomes really important and can be really powerful in the way that you reach out to these sort of people, and the best thing you can do is obviously just pay for their time. Their time's worth a lot more than probably what we give credit to, and I know a lot of those guys. They are great guys and would give up their time for free, but that's not the point when you're reaching out to someone like that, the best things that you can do is pay for their time, because not only that you'll get instant respect, but you're also gonna get far better information. So there we go. That's my little brain dump for the week. Hope you all have a fantastic week, and next time I chat to you I will be in the UK, so I will let you know how that whole trip goes over.
