A Penny for Your Thoughts: Lifting Shame & Building Community
“I am Ashley Pennington and this is “A Penny for your thoughts.” I am a wife, mom, and lover of all things Christ. As someone who has struggled with alcoholism and disordered eating, I have found healing and redemption through Christ who continues to move in my life. By using my personal story and testimony of faith, I want to connect with you. I want to create community during times of isolation. And Most importantly I want to validate you, in whatever season you find yourself. Let this be a place for you. A community for you. A place to conceptualize your thoughts. And a place for you to truly be you.”

Answering God's Calling
Answering God's Calling...event when we're scared.
The fear we feel when God pulls us into uncharted waters can be very real. I should know, I have felt it and continue to feel it as God is moving through me. Back in September, I began the venture of hosting this podcast and within the past 2 weeks, I have also designed and published my own website. I am not 100% technologically savvy, so both of these things were way out of my comfort zone. I like to speak and I like I to write. Period. So, when God called me to put these ventures together, I went for it, but not without experiencing fear. There were a lot of headaches and a lot of "God, I have no idea what I am doing!"
But all I heard was, "Child, you got this. I am within you, you cannot fail."
No truer words have been spoken. How many times has God pulled you into a direction that felt unfamiliar? Uncharted? And how many times have you reared back and said, "No, God, I want to go my own way?" And how many times has that worked out for you? For me, zero times. And let me tell you, I am your classic Type A person. I love plans. I love organization. And I love to know what I am doing when I am doing it.
So, tell me, where are you letting fear into the driver's seat in your life? Is there a place where you could listen to God, even when fear is present? Acknowledge your fear and keep going? Joseph is the prime example of answering God's calling. Here he is, living his life with his fiancé, and low and behold, she is pregnant with the Messiah. Instead of turning away, he embraced this journey and new trajectory. He was obedient to God's calling. He knew he was made for more.
My favorite verse that always comes up for me when I think about God's calling is Jeremiah 29:11: "For I know the plans I have for you declares the Lord. Plans to prosper you and not to harm you. Plans to give you hope and a future."
The Lord always provides. And maybe he is calling you to bigger things. To dream bigger. To achieve bigger. To call upon his name. What fear is holding you back form becoming the best version of yourself? Showing up as the gift that God created you to be? And what lies are the enemy telling you to make you stop living the life of freedom in the Lord?
Where is God pulling you within this next year? Next season?
I would love to know! Listen to learn more about where God is calling me and please reach out and let me know where God is calling you, so I can pray for you.
