Monster

Tracy Alexander Rigg Season 2 Episode 4

This is a poem from 2002. It was a very colurful year amongst many such years. Hindsight - does that mean looking at the deer's tail? The monster in question here is my libido I supose, or the hidden clockwork mechanism that drives one.

Monster (forbidden series)

Teeth are sinking in, through flesh to bone

the pain colourless, like a word.

This monster has me now by the back

of my neck, one paw upon my shoulder

bearing down its weight its body of

most gorgeous desire and with a movement

so subtle to leave me breathless,

lifts me from the ground.

Lights and thoughts fly across my vision

like wings, carrying my mind away to

some mountain top - Sinbad borne

aloft to the nest of the Rock -

a refuge most perilous, most dangerous.

Like the sailor I must bind myself to the

legs of the beast with my own hair -

cross the oceans of emotion beneath

love's guardian - oh terrifying apparition -

and in a distant place, another time,

unbind my chest from its harness -

fall into the seas of, the rivers of,

my destiny.

Teeth are meeting, biting through,

tearing away a piece of my body

that will never repair, repeat -

come this way once, live only once.

Looking up - into its eyes I see a tear

Fall and splash upon my feet - the

fires of compassion incandescent in each

pupil change from red to green to

brown and shades like memory -

reflections of my own body glisten upon

the moisture, the opalescent glaze of

an iris so impenetrable, so far away.

Blood flows from my wounds into the

ground, my head grows unclear,

my departure now due

from platform thirteen - trece;

bells ring, baggage is loaded -

there is no way back from here,

we travel this way once -

I'll see you there because here is

already gone - sliding past the windows,

blending into history - I'll see you there,

tied to the legs of a legend - I'll see you there:

swimming in future waters.
