Air Canada flight attendants , you rock . Who was the big star at the Journey Escape tribute band , balake , visits the podcast . All this next on Cabin Pressure with Sean and G hey , everyone welcome .
Speaker 2This is cabin . Pressure boom , shakalaka laga boom .
Speaker 1The return of Shawnee . It's here , it's time , it's cabin pressure .
Speaker 2You know , sometimes it seems like it's been forever since we talked and then it seems like the other day I know .
Speaker 1I know Time really flies when we're in here talking about this stuff , right , trying to catch up on all that stuff . And speaking about catch up , man , what's been going on with you ?
Speaker 2First of all , we got to do a huge shout out to the Air Canada flight attendants . Before we even start anything , man , let me tell you something that was freaking incredible , wasn't it ?
Speaker 1Oh man , I was so excited , first of all , for all those people that are non-airline people and the people that are airline people . I mean , it means a lot what happened up there , because flight attendants need to get paid for flight attendant work time .
Speaker 2Right , but what they did by sticking together , man , that was incredible . All the years me and you've been in this business , man , that was the top of the mountain on that one .
Speaker 1And here's the other thing , too , like people don't realize this , about this whole situation you know , like Air Canada , they were able to walk out right , but we're here in the united states , are not able to do that , you know , and so we have laws and restrictions because of the railway labor act that prevents us from , like , walking off the job . But we do have another means of striking , called chaos striking , which I hope it doesn't happen , but united States companies are able to do that at least .
Speaker 2Still was amazing that this employee group even the government . The government tried to deter this employee group by telling them they had to get back to work and they basically said F you to the government . They stayed out . And wasn't it amazing , sean , that two days I mean two days after they went on strike , that all of a sudden there's a mediator , there's a room and everybody negotiates the shit and the shit gets taken care of , when 100,000 , 200,000 people are not moving per day . It's amazing when the shit gets taken care of , isn't it ?
Speaker 1Yeah , that's exactly how this whole thing works . If they have the ability to drag their feet and deter this whole thing for the company to save money , they're going to do that . That's what a business is doing . If I'm the business owner and I could see you know like I empathize with that side of the argument as well . Like they , they have the right to conduct their business however they want to conduct it . But there comes a time in life when you just need to do the right fucking thing . Right and and people are what make businesses run . You need to treat people right .
Speaker 2Right , and I'm never down to CEO for making the money that they make . I never do . We all make decisions and we make choices about what we do in life and I get that . But in the same breath you make your money , you have to be willing to share that money . When the people's backs that you earn that money , you have to be willing to share that money . When the people's backs that you earn that money , you have to be willing to share that . Right For sure , and that's it . And when that doesn't happen and the first time in all the years that I've been flying that I've seen 10,500 flight attendants walk out at the same time Shit .
Speaker 2We talked about technology shutting the airline down . They shut that shit down fast , didn't they ? Yeah , that's sweet man . That was unbelievable , hey . But here's the one thing that wasn't unbelievable I got my ass on this hot-ass airplane . Now I got to tell flight attendants this you guys listen , if your airplane is so hot it's not safe to be on . Do not let anybody on that plane . Don't let them on there . Because , let me , sean , I was going back and I wasn't even a . I was a , a non-working crew member and I was basically deadheading back home and I had gotten on the plane and first thing I did was I started sweating I know this just happened to me , like I'm gonna tell you about it here on my little catch-up here going out to denver .
Speaker 1Just so happened . But here in cleveland there was a crew and the plane was roasting . They didn't have the air hooked up , pilots weren't around , none of that type of stuff . The plane was so hot . They delayed the boarding like they started boarding the plane . Then all of a sudden you saw people coming back up the jetway . Yeah , I was like . I was like what's happening ? I'm thinking mechanical , is that ?
Speaker 2no , it was hot ass airplane right and I'm sitting there sweating my ass off and I'm sitting
in the center seat and I'm thinking there's no way they're going to board the rest of these passengers while they start boarding . And I'm sitting in the center seat and the first thing that you do you start sizing up the people that you know are coming on the plane . You're hoping that's a small person sitting next to you . Yeah , so where were you sitting ? A center seat in ? In the front center seat you said that about five times already .
Speaker 1Well , so what ? Hey ? So you were sitting in the center seat .
Speaker 2Shut up , sean so my my seat mates came in . They were sitting next to me and , uh , it was still hot yeah , really hot .
Speaker 1Yeah , really hot , really hot . Yeah , like ass sweating hot under pits shirt soaking hot .
Speaker 2Very hot .
Speaker 1That hot Okay .
Speaker 2So anyway , I was really tired , so I fell asleep .
Speaker 1Gotcha .
Speaker 2About 20 minutes into the flight I woke up to this god awful smell . I mean , I'm telling you the first whiff was it was pure regret . In my lungs it was filled with the smell of Satan's ass air . After taco Tuesday and at the all you can eat bar , that's a smell . It was bad , I'm telling you , listen that .
Speaker 1you know , every time I walk in the plane it's like , oh yeah , the smell of ass . No , it was bad , like it was worse than that .
Speaker 2Yeah , I'm telling you it really was . No , it was bad , like it was worse than that . Yeah , I'm telling you it really was . I mean , it was like Satan's ass there and the thing all I could think about was I took the Vicks out of my bag . Oh dude , it was disgusting , I mean it was killing me . It was like someone was live beta testing some nuclear cheese or something .
Speaker 1I'm telling you right now , like I can't travel without my poop , I'll , I'll , I'll spray my poopery when I'm , wherever I'm sitting ? Yeah , did I tell you like fucking around with giving us a gassing ? Yeah , I'm going to do that . Did I tell you it was hot ? Oh , yeah , and you're in the middle seat ? Yeah , and it was a nasty but yeah .
Speaker 2So anyway , that was a . That was my little catch up for the flying , but I had to tell you this one I got a little fake title this weekend . A fake title , yeah , a fake title . What was that about ? Well , I was over at Blue Heron . They have this outdoor venue and remember that van escape that I used to ?
Speaker 1I mean , I'd always go see yeah , like a bunch of T-shirt man , you're like number one fan . Journey , yeah , journey .
Speaker 2Yeah , these guys are legit , but anyway , go to see them . And didn't realize they had to have reservations to go eat inside . So we were standing over by one of those beer barrels and we were eating on the beer barrel and this guy asked us if we wanted to take his seats . But he was at the bar and I said sure , it was really nice of him . And he looked at me and he goes , why do you look so familiar ? And I said , sure , it was really nice of him . And he looked at me and he goes , why do you look so familiar ? And I said , well , I'm , I'm the crew that took you down to Tampa , that you were playing at Bush .
Speaker 2Are you sure he didn't recognize you from cabin pressure ? Yeah , no , so he goes . Oh my God , that's right you . You took us down to Tampa and I told him . I said , yeah , I made that announcement and I told everybody that you guys were the best tribute band for Journey I'd ever experienced , and incredible . So he goes . He's going on and on about this and he said , yeah , he goes . We really felt like superstars so it was kind of fun , you know . He gave us a seat and then the show started . Well , I'm sitting in the very middle part on this uh hill facing the band , and this guy starts telling this story about what I just said to him . Right , and he's telling 2 000 people this story cool , and he goes , and he goes , and he goes . The coolest thing about it he goes that . How cool is it to have a your pilot ?
Speaker 1a pilot .
Speaker 2He had no idea I'm like who the hell said pilot every ?
Speaker 1every male flight attendant on a plane is initially a pilot , until you actually tell them you're not a pilot but the thing that sucked is there's there's 2 000 people .
Speaker 2What am I supposed to do ? You got to raise your hand up like hell yeah , here I am . Yeah , you're non-pilot .
Speaker 1I didn't fly one damn minute . Dude , have you been in the back of the plane ? How many times has this happened to you ? I know it's happened a hundred times or plus . You're sitting there on the cart and you're going down and you're serving a plane and they're like wow , I didn't know . The pilots do this Exactly . Are you a ?
Speaker 2pilot . Oh yeah , We've got an autopilot right now . We're just back here doing our service .
Speaker 1Yeah , the perception of the public is just so funny sometimes Like you're like really .
Speaker 2Yeah , that was my fake title . I was pilot for a minute . Pilot for a minute . Did everybody clap for you ? They did oh , there you go . Exactly , did your face turn red ?
Speaker 3I was sitting there going .
Speaker 2No , my hands were up . I was like damn , this sucks . I ain't no damn pilot , I'm like are you kidding me ? I mean we had friends of ours down there and they're like ain't no damn pilot , ain't no pilot . But anyway , what's going on with you ? What'd you do ?
Speaker 1well , you know , last week , man , I went out to colorado and uh , you know , once a year we go out with our friends and uh , go doing the golf and all this stuff , and uh , I'm the tag along like tag along husband , because carol's out for a golf tournament , and so we went out there to colorado and all this stuff , but it was , uh , I cannot believe how dry it is out there right now , like they're in stage three fire alert out there , wow , and I guess there's a one fire that's going on right there . That's like 100 , not controlled , like it is just going and they have got nothing going on trying to , you know , trying to control it , but it's just out of control and all these fires were started by lightning . So it was one of those like questionable things like california had last year and all that stuff . But , um , it was crazy . So we were getting ready to go do razoring and you know those , uh , we get those like dune buggy , two pasture vehicles and we go up on the trails and we could see all kinds of wildlife . And then what happened was we were , it was so dry , I was like you know what , I don't want to , I don't want to go do this because it's going to be so dusty and I'll be eating dirt the whole time and it's not gonna be that fun .
Speaker 1So we decided to go golf and we get up on the course and this , this pro , that's course we're talking about it . She's into wildlife and all this stuff . She's like hey , you , um , you guys know you can't go razoring , because we had mentioned we were , we were going to do that and we're like what she's like stage three improved roads . You can't have any vehicles on improved roads just because of the sparks of the vehicle hitting rocks and all the stuff could start fires and everything . And I'm like what , what that is ? This is that's crazy man . We could have been arrested , like , like , like , smoky the bear ranger would have came in and like , took us away and impounded our vehicles .
Speaker 1We were like , damn , we made the right decision today . But then we were . I was like , wow . I'm like , well , what's stage four ? I'm like , is that like like no hot chicks out , like they can't have their stilettos might start fires and stuff like that , like I don't know it was ? It was crazy , man . We got a little bit of distance with this hot chick thing and so my buddy was like telling everybody oh yeah , yeah , we can take our wives outside stage four because we can't have hot chicks out here , you know carolyn hills anyhow .
Speaker 1Uh , the other thing too . I was on a plane and , uh , and , and , like you and the band , I ran into a couple that literally I run , I fly three . I'm this week , month I have vacation , so I have three flights that I did this entire month because I'm stuff to do , it's like a common denominator that we talk every week .
Speaker 2Yeah , you vacation you fly , I enjoy Exactly Right .
Speaker 1I live , you work , go ahead . Well , some days you'll figure it out . No , whatever , we're trying to get you there , you suck . So , anyhow , but I rented his family that was on my flight like two weeks prior to and , uh , that was the family I was talking about last time . But uh , the guy that interrupted me and I was trying to do my job and I was like , will you just let me do my job ? You know , it was that family and she was like , yeah , I just told my whole family about you . This is the nicest flight attendant . Oh my gosh , you know ? And ? And shout out to that family because I didn't give them our QR code to be able to see the two shows . But they were on a flight again and she was so happy and I was able to do the same exact thing . They had a kid . We had a full flight . Ended up , not having a full flight Moved some people around and they got a whole row , so it was cool . Shout out to everybody out there Be nice to your flight attendants .
Speaker 2You guys , we can help you out .
Speaker 1Super stew for the day , right dude , I was like , but I don't know if they'll write a letter or anything . Who knows ? We don't get letters unless they're bad , bad letters .
Speaker 2Maybe a stick them note .
Speaker 1Yeah , yeah , anyways , yeah . So when I was out there , the last thing I'd say was um , my buddy , he's like , he's a , he's a character and everything . He's like I got just joke for you , you know , and this is kind of a a golf joke , but I think you're in , you're enjoying the joke Cause I was like I gotta , I gotta tell G about this and I was like so here's the joke . The joke went like this this gal , she got stung by a bee on the golf course and she goes in doctor and she's like I got stung by a bee and I don't know what to do about it and everything . And he's like well , where did you get stung ? And he , she says I got stung between hole one and hole two . And she , he , the doctor , looks at her and says um , maybe I think that your stance is too wide how did I know where this was going ?
Speaker 1I love the jokes . I had to bring it on . Here's the best part .
Speaker 2I told .
Speaker 1Carol about it last night and we were Carol's .
Speaker 2Like don't do that . Well , listen , that's not funny , sean .
Speaker 1This whole joke and all of a sudden , I was with some friends the other night , last night , and uh , I tell carol and we're driving home , and carol looks over , man , she's like I don't get that joke it's not funny , sean , it's not funny so I had to slowly say it to her . You , she got stung between hole one and hole two .
Speaker 2Oh , oh , the no-no zone .
Speaker 1Oh , her hole . One and two . Yeah , I get that Okay .
Anyways .
Speaker 2Ann . Joke 101 . You know you got people like that too . I know , right , you're like , you tell a joke and they're looking at you like I don't , I don't get it right , I don't get this .
Speaker 1I don't understand it anyways , man . Um , you know what's happening right now on our show . We've got a special guest and I just want to introduce him . He came all the way out here to be on our show and Balake , balake , it's Blake Balake how are you ? Doing it's . Blake , okay , I said no , no , announce it with me , Balake .
Speaker 3Yeah , you're not pronouncing it , right .
Speaker 2Balake . No , say it right , balake . Okay , yeah , yeah .
Speaker 1Balake , welcome to the show . Yeah , exactly .
Speaker 2Blocky .
Speaker 1We love that . All the Key Peele audience out there would love that part about it . But , blake , how you doing bud , I'm good how are you guys ? Outstanding man . We always love to have guests on our show because it gives another perspective than our crazy asses , right ?
Speaker 2Exactly . But you know something ? Here's the funny part Blake is is one person that me and Sean both agreed that we wanted to on the show .
Speaker 1Oh yeah , Hands down . I was like this , this is a , this is a great contribution to flight attendants all over the world . Exactly .
Speaker 2Yeah , oh . It's not just that , though . I mean you come across these people , and Not just that , though . I mean you come across these people and you know you have bad flight attendants . Blake is completely opposite . He is actually nice to everybody , he's great to his crews , he's very polite . I couldn't say enough about him , good worker . Yeah , and me and Sean neither one of us actually knew that we flew with him and I told Sean I was like have you ever flown with this guy named Blake ?
Speaker 2I said Malake flew with him and I told sean , I was like have you ever flown ?
Speaker 1with this guy named blake and I said I said yeah , I've flown with black yeah , but he was .
Speaker 2I mean his personality . He has such a great personality . And then we started talking and this guy goes everywhere really .
Speaker 1Yep , blake , blake . Tell us about it , man , tell us a little . First of all a little bit about yourself . How'd you become a flight attendant ?
Speaker 3Yeah , so I got my master's degree when I was in Scotland .
Speaker 1Scotland yeah .
Speaker 3No , you were in there , you live in there , or what ? I moved there for my master's degree . Oh , that's cool . And what was your master's degrees in Intercultural business communication , boom .
Speaker 1Love it . Intercultural business communication . Boom Love it , I love it . Blocky was talking , blocky he was so yeah .
Speaker 3So I was over there for about a year and COVID happened , so I had to come home , and as soon as I was done with my student loans I said I need to travel again . So I became a flight attendant .
Speaker 1Really yeah . Was this like something that you were aspiring to do , like this is flight attendants with something ? Or is this like how did you just how did show up on your uh spectrum of finding the job ?
Speaker 3so I was on a flight and uh talked to the flight attendant the whole time and she convinced me to apply that's cool yeah yeah , before we even go farther , I had to ask you what was your favorite thing about Ireland , though , Scotland .
Speaker 1Scotland he said it's Scotland .
Speaker 2Oh , did he say Scotland ?
Speaker 1Yeah , we're going to get you to the right country .
Speaker 2No , I mean , yeah , I'm sorry , but what was your favorite thing ?
Speaker 3about it . So I lived in Edinburgh . I think the culture and the history I'm a big history buff so I think that just being immersed in that culture was just my favorite thing . Going to castles yeah , really yeah , europe is cool .
Speaker 1I mean so cool for all the people in the united states and there's so many millions of them that have never been outside the united states . They , I mean they're so missing the cultural history that's abroad . You know , like you go to all these different countries and we're going to talk about that a little bit more , but I mean just to experience the history that they have there is like so awesome and when you compare it to our history , it's like we're a little blip . The US is just a little blip of what they have experienced .
Speaker 3What do they say ? The US has the miles , that Europe has the history of Right .
Speaker 2There you go . So how many countries have you been to ?
Speaker 3Blake , I think I've been to just under 35 . 35 ? Yeah ?
Speaker 1Wow . So is this a thing like ? I have a I don't have it hanging up here in the office , but I have this thing where I go to all the national parks . Is that the country you're going to .
Speaker 3Yeah , the country is the same thing that you're doing , yeah , and so I collect flags from each country that I go to , so I have them on my desk . Uh , so it looks like the United nations .
Speaker 1Oh , that's cool . So you can go like real size flags or just miniature flags . Miniature flags , oh that's cool . I got a funny flag story for you . So I I lived abroad , in italy , and was going out one time and I decided , you know , me and my boys are out running around the the countryside and we see this big , huge party in one of the squares which squares are everywhere over europe , right and so we go in there and we're like man , this is a cool party , we're jumping , bouncing around , jumping , we're drinking the whole nine yards . Then we kind of started looking around and there's all these flags surrounding the whole square and they were all like these red , hammer and sickle flags . Oh , and we instantly figured out we should probably leave . This is a communist party that we don't want to be at . But then we decided that , as we were leaving and we exited the whole thing , that we reached up and snagged one of their flags and ripped it that will be good .
Speaker 2You see what happens when , when , when people do that right , they go to prison . Yeah , nice sean you gotta catch first .
Speaker 1The only people that are caught get to go there .
Speaker 2So you did this . So 32 or 35 countries . You did this in the two and a half years of flying .
Speaker 3So most of them I did since I started flying , but I did a couple whenever I was in Scotland . I would just travel on the weekends because it's so cheap to fly in Europe . Yeah , like 20 bucks round Europe . Yeah , like $20 round trip .
Speaker 1Yeah , that's awesome . I know my nephew did that study abroad and he'd every weekend go to a different country . Absolutely Because their economy carriers there are just so stupid , crazy , cheap .
Speaker 2But you think about how long we've been doing this job and I was looking at Blake's list of countries they went to and there's only a few of them that I haven't gone . But I've been doing it for 39 years . He's been doing it for two and a half yeah , two and a half . This guy's moving , he's moving . I mean that is crazy . That's a crazy amount of countries .
Speaker 3What's your favorite countries ? Oh , I just did Australia .
Speaker 1That was amazing , australia is on my bucket list .
Speaker 3I still haven't gotten there when at in Australia . I spent time in Sydney and in Melbourne , but Sydney is the best .
Speaker 2No kidding , okay , the harbor .
Speaker 3Bondi Beach yeah .
Speaker 2Did you go to Manly ?
Speaker 3No , well , we took the ferry , but we didn't stop .
Speaker 2Manly is incredible , so we used to stay right up from the opera house . Okay , did you go see the opera house too ?
Speaker 3We walked into the opera house . We didn't see anything .
Speaker 2Yeah , yeah , so we used to . We stayed right there at that park . There was a park right
there and then we used to shoot across to . It was King's Cross . Yeah , did you go down there ? Yeah , was that pretty seedy now , or was it ? Was it still the nightlife scene ? It's coming back , okay , because back then it was the nightlife scene . We used to go to this , uh , bar called osbrock's a lot of fun it was . It was a dance club . Don't remember it much because he's old . I wouldn't know . My ass was drunk .
Speaker 2Oh , there you go that too I mean I was drunk , I , I was looking up , I was that . I asked this guy . I was like hey , where's osrocks ? And he's like you're in front of it , mate , and I was like damn , I couldn't . Even I looked up and it was just all these lights .
Speaker 1But anyway , kings cross was amazing , yeah so , uh , now that you guys have bonded on australia , what was the worst place , like what's one of ? Now that you guys have bonded on Australia , what was the worst place , like what ? What's one of the places that you were like surprised and like this isn't great .
Speaker 3I would never talk bad about it anywhere , but , uh , I didn't love Brussels .
Speaker 1Okay .
Speaker 3Why I felt like there was a lot of um , a lot of people that didn't speak English . Okay , so that was difficult , um , and yeah , I didn't think that it was the cleanest place , gotcha .
Speaker 1It wasn't inviting , it didn't really welcome the American tourists .
Speaker 3Not me , see how polite he is . No , no , no , say it like it is .
Speaker 1When you say not me , what do you mean ?
Speaker 3I didn't enjoy it . Other people might .
Speaker 1Okay , gotcha , I will tell you . This is . This is like , speaking from experience of traveling , all this stuff Americans , when we travel , we always want everybody to conform to us . It's like we're even we're in their country . It's like they're the foreigner . Still , you know , like that , that attitude is out there , but , um , it's not so like we should . I mean , we should be more respectful of these other countries but at the same time , yeah , some of them aren't so inviting to us . Right , we're the enemies coming in .
Speaker 2Any country that you didn't feel safe in .
Speaker 3The United States Boom .
Speaker 1What city ? Seattle , seattle . There you go .
Speaker 2Did you ever go to the murder capital of ?
Speaker 3the world . No , no , that was you all . Yeah , there you go , sean , do you ever go to the murder capital ?
Speaker 1of the world .
Speaker 2No , no , that was you all yeah .
Speaker 1Yeah Well , you know everybody's got to visit places . You know everybody needs a tourist .
Speaker 2Do you travel with anybody ?
Speaker 3I travel with a few other flight attendants in my family .
Speaker 1Okay , wow , cool . Is this a like ? You have a travel companions as another flight attendants that like frequently try with you .
Speaker 3Yeah , yeah , so a couple of times a year .
Speaker 1How's that work out Like ? How's that play out ? Like is like you just like shooting off a text . Let's go to you , know you back a stand or whatever . Yeah .
Speaker 3We got to align our schedules and then we just pick a random place and figure out how to get there .
Speaker 1So you just go to the airport , look at the board and travel . That has been done . Yeah , there you go . We've experienced that too . I like how you just threw in Uzbekistan there you go , Are you going to like , change it up ? You can't just be like oh , you went to Paris , you haven't been to Uzbekistan , have you no ?
Speaker 2Blake , that's where you're going . He's going to Uzbekistan , Blake , and we still haven't heard back from him .
Speaker 1Shout out Whoever's listening out there . Give us a shout out , uzbekistan , and we expect you to shout out in English .
Speaker 2So you did these trips with your family , right , yeah , okay , is there a trip that you guys didn't stop talking about that ?
Speaker 3everybody loved . So we did a Mediterranean cruise a few years back and that was probably the best trip that we did as a family . Not having to worry about food or accommodation leaves a lot of fighting out of it .
Speaker 2Oh , who'd you guys travel on ?
Speaker 3We did Norwegian . I like Norwegian .
Speaker 1Yeah , I'm not a big . I'm not a big cruise person . I mean I'd see that aspect of what you're saying like having the having . I'm not a big cruise person . I mean I'd see that aspect of what you're saying like having the having everything that you don't have to really worry about . Like my favorites , worst , my worst thing that I have to do every day is figure it out what we're going to eat every day , and so having that ability to like , take all those factors out there is is good but I appreciate the convenience , but it's not my favorite .
Speaker 1Yeah , it yeah , just like I don't my big deterrence is the , the boarding and the unboarding of the boat , like the ship or whatever you want to call it . It's just like it's such a pain . And then like , if you get status , I guess on those , just like the airlines , right that you can get on first and get off first , right , but um , but when you don't do it , you know it's not a good experience . I don't know how they keep people captured on them , but yeah , there's that anyways so you , you took the whole family right .
Speaker 2Yeah , and , and it said that you took your grandma on it so that was a different cruise , but yeah so so on the cruise with grandma right where'd you go ?
Speaker 3so it was her 80th birthday and I booked a cruise Just the two of us . We went to the Bahamas .
Speaker 1Oh , that's cool Like a bouncing Bahamas like to different islands . Yeah , oh , that's cool . How long was the cruise ? Just five days , all right , yeah , cool , yeah , I love the Bahamas .
Speaker 1Oh , not right now , at this moment , and seeing that they're getting hit with a hurricane yeah , yeah , I mean , I've been to some of the bahama islands and I and some I like better than others , of course , um , but uh , yeah , I have a horrible story about one of the abaco . Have you been to abaco ? No , yeah , it's not a cruise ship , stop , okay . So nobody should stop there . Don't , don't go there . We did a vacation and we got uh like literally eaten from our ankles all the way up to our knees with um , no , seems . Oh , it was awful but , you've seen them afterwards ?
Speaker 2no , I seen their um carnage of my legs , but no , they were gone you see how he misses the shit . You just I mean you just give it to me and they were gone , all right , all right , gee .
Speaker 1Anyways , yeah , but Bahamas is awesome , man , oh yeah .
Speaker 3So who picked it ? You or Grandma ? I did , I surprised her .
Speaker 1That's cool . So you were just like , hey , Grandma , let's go on the cruise .
Speaker 3Yep , that's awesome . We were both in bed by 8 pm every night .
Speaker 1Drunk . Um , we were both in bed by 8 pm every night , drunk . No , no , uh , I don't know how grandma rolls , you know like I'm just asking questions here .
Speaker 3No , I love my grandma , but me taking care of her exhausted me as much as her being there . Oh yeah , she was tired .
Speaker 1I was tired , no but it was a good time . Yeah , that's awesome man . I grandmas are awesome , period .
Speaker 2I think it's cool that you travel with your family , though .
Speaker 3Oh yeah .
Speaker 2I do . I think that's phenomenal . So you came from West Virginia , yeah , okay , one thing that we're all from different parts of the world , right , and from West Virginia . There's certain things about the people of West Virginia . What would you say that followed you around the world that you could take from your ? So , I would say that West Virginians are uncommonly kind .
Speaker 3I've never met anybody from West Virginia . That's not just the most welcoming person , and I know that I've been all around the world . Everybody's nice , right , but there's something special about the people in West Virginia and just how welcoming and considerate and just friendly they are .
Speaker 2No , I can attest to that , because that's exactly what I told Sean about you . I mean a hundred percent .
Speaker 1Oh yeah , he's totally representative of exactly what he just said .
Speaker 2Now this one now , this part of it didn't didn't surprise me . You're an Eagle scout .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 2There you go , you an .
Speaker 1Eagle Scout Sean no Dude , I joined . We've been through this , I know yeah .
Speaker 2I'm not even a Cub Scout either . That's cool .
Speaker 1Yeah , I never did it , but it's a great organization . I mean , I think , first of all , any organization , whether it be the scouts or the military , or the scouts or the military or any big , you know , fraternity or anything that can guide young men in their early adolescence , I'm for it .
Speaker 2Now , you had as an Eagle scout , you had to do . You had to do something at the very end , right , was it ?
Speaker 3a big project .
Speaker 2Yeah , what was your project ?
Speaker 3I did . I built a fire pit and benches at my church .
Speaker 1Oh , that's cool . Yeah See , I didn't even know that .
Speaker 2Yeah , eagle Scout , they have a project to do and the thing I think is amazing , when you get to that level , they always do something just like that . Yeah , it's something that is giving back to the community , right ?
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 2I think that's cool . I mean , the one thing I do think about that is that when you do the project , it's always to give back to the community . Yeah , okay . So we're on a plane , you're on a desert island , first thing that you do to keep everybody alive , being the Eagle Scout . There you go , you're on , okay .
Speaker 3I would probably assess the situation , break everybody into teams and then have them disperse . So one team would be gathering firewood , One team would be looking for fresh water and or shelter . Another team would be looking at the supplies that we could take from the plane .
Speaker 1You go , man , you go . That's where you go . That's why these organizations are so valuable , because not everybody would even think that way , right ?
Speaker 2off the cuff .
Speaker 1Yeah , I mean , like I know , as flight attendants we've been trained on a little bit of the survival stuff , but really I mean outside of , like getting into our rafts , right , yeah , and outside of , you know , getting off the plane , that step beyond that . They really don't focus too much on that , do they ? No , not really . Yeah , I mean like it's not , like we're gonna always land at the airport , no , you know , and so it's . It'd be interesting to me
that if they would give us more training along the eagle scout route , you know , I mean yeah like I mean , it's the the percentage of that happening .
Speaker 1It's so random , right . I mean it's like highly unlikely , but we should be trained for everything you know . It was just a thought that just popped in my head right here . So , uh , blocky , you were a disney fan yeah awesome , cool .
Speaker 3Tell us a little bit about that , like how that happened oh goodness , uh , my mom went to disney world right when it opened back in the seventies , and so she was raised at Disney . I was in Disney in the womb before I was born and then every couple of years when I was growing up , we went uh , my family sings a lot , so that was a big part of it growing up to church family , yeah , yeah , I mean most families that I'll sing a lot .
Speaker 1They're all church . It starts in the church , right , yeah , that's cool , man , I mean I've uh , so I haven't had much exposure to Disney , is like throughout my entire life , like it's only been when I wanted to go there , top of thing , you know . And parents , I think , took us maybe twice to Disneyland . Yeah , you know , um , we didn't really have the means to do it , but I mean those disney's expensive , so expensive , you know , that is uh . So so what's your favorite character at disney ?
Speaker 2mickey , mickey , of course , dude , come on g I have got a mickey , an old mickey mouse watch okay , that's your favorite character no , no , I'm just saying . I mean he was talking about mickey . I've got a very old vintage mickey mouse watch and a little bitty mickey mouse . It's a vintage um fishing pole oh nice , that's cool , I'll show it to you because , since you're a mickey mouse fan and and don't tell me my character , yeah , what's your .
Speaker 3What's your ?
Speaker 2favorite . Well , I mean , everybody loves mickey though . Okay , we're right back to the question what's your favorite ?
Speaker 1Well , I mean , everybody loves Mickey , though . Okay , we're right back to the question what's your favorite character ?
Speaker 2I would say Mickey .
Speaker 1Mickey .
Speaker 2Yeah .
Speaker 1Dude , come on . Everybody knows my favorite character , tigger . Come on , tigger , bouncy , trouncy , fun , fun , fun . It would be the fun and wonderful thing about Tigger is he's the only one , hey , so here's a Tigger story . There's a pilot out here that we fly with . Do you know Dan ? Yeah , captain , yeah , dan was Tigger , really You're more .
Speaker 2You got to talk to him now . You got something to talk to him .
Speaker 1Next time you see him he was Tigger . He actually had a gig at Disney where they were flying these modified aircrafts , you know those like little uh uh scooter things with the fan on it , yeah , and then you do the parachute on top , whatever . Well , disney actually hired a bunch of pilots to go and do these fly arounds , but they had to fly around in characters and so he was tigger and he was to tigger flying around the whole area there . It was really cool . He had like video and all this stuff , but you could check it out . Tell Dan , absolutely .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 1Tigger , you're Tigger , man , you're Tigger , that's right .
Speaker 2I'm looking at you , thinking piglet .
Speaker 1Piglet , you're thinking that's my favorite character . All right .
Speaker 2All right , all right , all right , eeyore .
Speaker 3Okay , go the . Uh , so walt disney parks outside of the us . Is there a bucket list for that ? Yeah , so I had tickets for disneyland paris . The never got to go because of it , so I'm hoping that they're going to honor them .
Speaker 1Okay , but disneyland hong kong , that's it so I went yeah , not hong kong , I went into japan okay , tokyo yeah , tokyo , okay , and we did the whole day trip , get on the trains and everything .
Speaker 1But the cool thing well , the uncool thing that you don't realize over there is that we got to the front door and it was sold out . No , we were like disney exactly sold out , sold out , that's how many people are over there , wow . So be aware when you go abroad to these disney parks that you might need a ticket to get in beforehand and make sure that they're gonna let you in because you can have a ticket and they still won't let you in . That's crazy . It was crazy . I mean , I mean to understand , like the spaces in japan and over in asia , areas like the populations or something . I mean the trains . You get on the trains and they're pushing you in with a stick to get the doors closed . You know , like that's how many people but nobody argues over there .
Speaker 1You can push it in and they're all they're all okay and polite and they'll scoot in and squeeze up next to you and you know all that stuff . But it's like it was amazing . I never heard of a sold out Disney . I didn't know that that was possible .
Speaker 1Oh but and I guess it does happen here in the States too on holidays , that makes sense , yeah , so I've been down to Disney world and like we got there at noon and they're like right now we're not allowing're gonna need to wait till some other people come out , I felt like I was going to the nightclub , you know anyhow I was just listening to you and I was sitting there thinking I know you kind of looked up at me like well , what did you just say ?
Speaker 2no , because when you start thinking about disney you know you kind of you you go back in your head and you , you , you . You see it's a small world and you're thinking about all these little bitty rides and stuff like that . It's a small world , right , do you like all that ? Yeah , of course it's a classic .
Speaker 3What did you like about that ? Well , the song gets stuck in your head all day . Yeah , but no , seeing all the different countries Going over the countries .
Speaker 2Right , it's like what we do every day . That's what I liked about it's a Small World , because I was thinking exactly the same thing . The right it's a Small World is perfect because you traveling and us traveling all over the world you're actually flying all over it .
Speaker 1Yeah Well , I kind of thought it was more like Chinese water torture .
Speaker 2You see what we got to deal with Blake .
Speaker 1It's a small world over and over and over . I was having nightmares that night about it .
Speaker 2See , two of us are thinking it's kind of cool , we're flying over all these countries and everything , and he's thinking he's getting waterboarded .
Speaker 1Yeah , I was thinking about taking out some animatronics and get me off this damn boat .
Speaker 2All right , let's talk some flying stories .
Speaker 1Yeah , man flying stories . So when you're flying somewhere , do you ever get jealous about passengers , or just well that want to get off the plane or anything like that ?
Speaker 3Well , I would say that a lot of places that we get to fly to are pretty good destinations . Yeah , I think the biggest thing that's a turnoff is like when they're like yeah , you get to stay over in Cancun for a day and then last minute they're like actually , you're going to go to Minneapolis for 10 hours .
Speaker 1Oh yeah , yeah . And then last minute they're like actually you're going to go to Minneapolis for 10 hours . Oh yeah , yeah .
Speaker 3The change of the schedule . Change of the schedule .
Speaker 1The company does to you . Yeah , that stinks Like when you're anticipating going somewhere and you can't stay . Yep , yeah , I know like everybody always thinks like when they talk to me about my job , they're like hey .
Speaker 1So how long did you get to stay there , you know , and I went to cancun and came back . Yep , you know , like I didn't even look outside what the weather was . We got so much stuff going on like you're getting on the plane . You're , sometimes you never get off the plane , you just turn around , come back , or people will be like you know what was it like that down there , that you know what ?
Speaker 2I didn't even look outside but you know , I love that about , love that about our job . Though it's crazy like that , I love all the craziness in it . I mean it's not normal , right , I mean it's not normal . There's nothing normal about our job .
Speaker 1So , talking about not normal , what's one of the flights that just completely went wrong up top of your head ?
Speaker 3I know that a lot of flights . It seems like whenever one thing goes wrong , then it's just a snowball effect . Yeah , one thing after another after another I can't think of any flights specifically that have like continued .
Speaker 1That stood out in your head like this is like trauma ties you and no , but I'm still new . Yeah , yeah , so yeah , how long have you been flying blake ? Just two and a half years , two and a half years , and so two and a half years you haven't had too much of a roller coaster going no , it's been pretty good no crazy turbulence no , really , wow , that's good , that's good , that's good .
Speaker 1Yeah , because when you have that first , uh , big turbulence , and when we say big , like it's much different than the public says crazy , you know , like we've been floating in the air , yep , slamming down , hit the ceiling . Yeah , hit the ceiling . All those type of things have happened .
Speaker 2All those things that you don't want to happen , yeah .
Speaker 1It will happen and you're going to be having a new perspective .
Speaker 2Yeah , can't wait . Yeah , you'll come back and talk about that one .
Speaker 1Yeah , you'll definitely come back and talk about that one , but I mean , that's awesome In two years you haven't . I mean , everything's gone pretty smooth right , yeah , any weird things .
Speaker 3Last night I ran into a customer at the gate waiting to get on the plane . She said that she was abducted by her mother when she was born , brought to the United States from France , and she didn't find out until she was like 30 . Her mother told her that her father was this horrible person . She finds out . Nope , he's great . She was coming back from a family reunion in France , wow .
Speaker 1Wow , that's crazy man . That's some crazy shit right there . I mean , I , I have a personal story about the DNA stuff , but I mean to be find out later in life and , oh yeah , I was , I had been abducted by the person that she probably loves , right , and uh , that would be like Whoa yeah , but that's the cool thing Another cool thing about our job because we run into all these super interesting wild stories about people's lives that happen all over the world , right .
Speaker 2Airplanes , you cross paths . I mean , that's what it is . We cross paths with these people and what I found out throughout the years is there's a reason . There's always a reason why we we cross the path of someone and , um , you know , just like I was telling you about the band member , I mean all the flights he ends up on my flight yeah and you know . Then I end up at his , at his uh show and everybody thinks you're a pilot .
Speaker 1Now exactly , that's cool , yeah . So see , it's cool that you get to be that in no training .
Speaker 2Yeah , not one hour . See , there's a reason for everything , sean . There is man , I get a little bit of a title . Yeah , smartass . So okay , you've had to have a crazy layover , right .
Speaker 3Oh yeah .
Speaker 2Okay , give us one .
Speaker 3Okay , I was in reno . I love reno , by the way , I love reno , but it's in its hate reno .
Speaker 1I don't get it well , so we could pause for one second .
Speaker 2Reno's disgusting I was gonna say it's like a lowercase vegas .
Speaker 1You walk out of the hotels and it's . It's very riffraffy there , right it , it is Okay . So from that perspective , if you can see through the fog , I mean that's cool .
Speaker 2Yeah , but they had . I mean they kind of as long as you stay inside right , it seems like a little city inside there with all the casinos and everything . As long as you stay inside , yeah , but when you go ?
Speaker 1outside . When you go outside , though I I just said , the area is okay , but I mean the river that goes through the city , right , that's kick-ass . Have you been ? I mean , that whole area is awesome , yeah , yeah , but so go ahead tell us about your reno yeah , yeah .
Speaker 3So reno is an hour from lake tahoe . So I had this crazy idea I'm gonna rent a car and drive to lake tahoe . I talked to the flight attendants who I was working with . One of them was like yeah , I'll go too . So we go get this car , drive to lake tahoe , spend a couple hours on the lake . Beautiful , yeah , water's crystal clear , cold , it's a hot july day , perfect . So we are uh driving back up through the mountains and , uh , the car runs out of oil .
Speaker 1Oh shit , completely damn I checked the like seize engine type of thing
done , wow , wow this is a rental , yeah so I call the guy .
Speaker 3I'm like what am I supposed to do ? He's like can you get to a gas station and buy oil ? So I am like coasting , terrified that this entire engine is going to burst into flames . Yeah , we somehow made it , but that was a crazy layover I'll never forget yeah , that's crazy yeah tahoe is awesome .
Speaker 1Did you do any hiking up there ? No , no , just just the lake tour around the city , check out the casinos over there and all that stuff . So you were on the south side of Lake Tahoe , yeah , yeah , if you ever get a chance , go back there . Instead of going south and going to the city , which is it's got some stuff to do , try to drive around the lake , just the different stops and the different areas around the lake , because you're going to go into california and come back and then divide and all that stuff .
Speaker 3It's um , it's awesome just make sure the car has yeah , and check the oil yeah all right , blake , you have a shih tzu .
Speaker 2I do right his name's , sammy , yeah he has a .
Speaker 1What shih tzu ? Is that a digestive problem ?
Speaker 2see what I'm saying , right , not Right . Not a dog lover .
Speaker 1Oh , you're talking about a dog . Okay , Blocky , give it to us .
Speaker 3Yeah , his name's Sammy Sammy yeah .
Speaker 2Sammy . Okay now , if Sammy could pick your next destination , where would he pick ?
Speaker 3Sammy's a lap dog . He sleeps most of the time , so anywhere that he can sleep he'd be fine . But uh , I think it'd be fun to bring him to like ireland . Let him run around in the sheep fields , right , yeah so why ?
Speaker 1why do you know why ? Like they've uh named that breed shih tzu , I don't . It just kind of occurred to me , like , like , how did dogs get their breed name ? You , you know ? Like , well , mine's a Yorkie , so Yorkshire . Somebody had a bad experience with this breed . A shitty .
Speaker 2Like a whole zoo shit . We're going to get into this whole deep conversation , aren't we , Sean ? It's just a damn shit , Sean .
Speaker 1I don't know . I think there's other people out there asking this .
Speaker 3They come from China . They were bred to be the emperor's lap dogs cool , but I don't know why they're called shih tzus .
Speaker 1Maybe he took some shit on the emperor's lap , I don't know . I'm just throwing it out there like this is a . I know other people want to know this information , but just saying all right man .
Speaker 2You are two and a half years into this job . Did you make the right decision ?
Speaker 3I think so .
Speaker 2That's cool , you think you made the right decision , yeah . I'm 39 years into this job . I think I made the right decision . Oh yeah , how about you .
Speaker 1I made the right decision the second I walked into the lobby getting the job when I saw a hundred girls in this lobby and it was me three other guys . I like I was like I thought I had gone to heaven because I just had left a military and been with a whole bunch of swinging dicks and it was just a different atmosphere .
Speaker 2I was neat in need of , but anyway you know what I love about our job , though like I just told you guys before is that it's crazy , though I mean , you know there's nothing . There's nothing normal about it . No , and that's what I like about our job . The best is is that there isn't . There isn't anything normal about the job . Yeah , everything changes . I mean tomorrow , when you get on a plane , or Sean gets on a plane , or I get a plane , we're going to have another story to tell and uh , and it's just going to be one day away .
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 2Right , I mean , you know , we could hit that turbulence , we could see that dog , we could see that crazy person . Uh , all these crazy videos that you see , the YouTube channels , we experience that daily , every day , right .
Speaker 1Every day , man , there's something crazy going on in the world .
Speaker 2So , Blake , here's the last question , and then we're going to go around the globe . You've flown with Sean and myself , right yeah ?
Speaker 1Who's better Really At the job ? You're putting him in that situation . Yeah , who's better Really At the job .
Speaker 3You're putting him in that situation ?
Speaker 1Yep , okay , go for it , go ahead , obviously , sean , there you go . Boom , boom , shakalaka , people , people .
Speaker 2Block , a damn block .
Speaker 1I take everything back that I said , no , we're both good , you're both top tier , I'm leaving . No , I love , I had to do that if you guys couldn't imagine this right now there was like this gigantic hell head swelling and everything and block it , just popped it . When we get to video , you guys will be able to see all this shut up all right , man , let's go around the globe .
Speaker 2Hey dad , here's a stepson tells his mom to chill . That would be an ass whooping sean .
Speaker 1No there's a video out on this whole thing and the son came back and was like chill , Will you just chill ? And like out of that , I know like social media went fucking nuts .
Speaker 2Well , that's the point , blake . Would you tell your mom to chill If I want to walk again ? No , exactly that's what I'm saying . If you just read , you don't even have to watch a damn video . Okay , I got that story .
Speaker 1This is what happened . The guy goes in and he the kid's like in the kitchen with the , it's a video . And he's like , tells this kid . The kid goes , you know , tells mom , you know , will you just chill ? And dad's just like , come here . He's like how do you talk to your mother ? And he's like giving him the whole thing . He says , all right , get down and do me some pushups . Boom , do you talk to your mother that way ? Blah , blah , blah . And he's giving him this whole thing and he's making him do this physical exercise .
Speaker 2And at the end he said uh-oh .
Speaker 1And then he stands up and he's like you know it was a stepson .
Speaker 2Yeah , you know it was a stepson , I get that . Yeah , it's still being ass whooping .
Speaker 1But then the whole entire internet just went crazy because they were like you know how ? You know you're , you're getting this kid and you're giving them physical torture to be like the discipline them . You know . But if you see the video and you ever see this video and how it came out , like I gave this guy so much kudos . He just handled it so well and made the kid do . I mean , there's all kinds of ways to discipline a kid , but it's like this kid . He just was like this is what you need to do regroup , refocus . This is not how we talk to women . This is not how you talk to your mother . You don't talk to any type of authoritarian people this way . I thought it was an excellent , excellent job of what this guy did , but we need more of that in the world .
Speaker 2We do . But , Blake , what was that if you told your mom to chill ?
Speaker 3Oh , I wouldn't be able to walk for a week .
Speaker 1Yeah , exactly Sean Old school , it would be a Virginian ass .
Speaker 2We would just tell all those people to keep their damn opinions to their self , because they wouldn't freaking mad . We would just tell all those people to keep their damn opinions to their self , because they wouldn't fricking maddle .
Speaker 1But this is all in video . That was , you know , like him beating the kid . Probably would have had a different response on it , but no , just he was . It was just really cool .
Speaker 2It was a cool video .
Speaker 1And I was like man man that we need more of that in the world , Like check these children and check these adolescents and how they do you know ?
Speaker 2see , we just didn't have videos back , or ?
Speaker 1or just send them to idiot scott eagle scouts .
Speaker 2We didn't have videos , man , they had a belt right all right . So this guy , did you guys see this guy that was vaping in the in the bathroom ? You ever have that ? You ever have somebody vaping , oh , once or twice . All right , did you catch him ?
Speaker 1yep , what'd you do take it away then ? What ?
Speaker 2did you ever have to ? Did you have to have him arrested ? Did you need to have the ?
Speaker 1airplane met . I've always went to route like , and I wouldn't have done that because of the vaping , like it's a little different than smoking a cigarette type of thing . Um , I just take it away from him and then I'm like , then I will explain to them the repercussions that could happen if I went forward with this . But if they're being um receptive to what I'm telling them , normally I'm like at the end of the flight I might give you this back , right , you know , but um , most of the time I'm like I don't need to like send , set up a three line fire .
Speaker 2Blake ? What about you ? Did you ? Did you handle that the same way ?
Speaker 3Yeah , basically , as long as it's not a real fire , Most of the time it's just . Don't do this .
Speaker 1Yeah , don't do this . This is not our rules .
Speaker 2Well , this idiot was taking a video of himself with the flight attendant and it backfired on him . Did you see that ? Did you see the video of ?
Speaker 3him no .
Speaker 2Okay , so he's in the bathroom . He got caught and did you see this
, blake ? Yeah , and it backfired on him . The social media just lit him up because he was sitting there saying that he had 25,000 followers . Do you know what ? 25,000 followers in media is Nothing ? A blip , it's a blip , yeah .
Speaker 1It's like your cousins yeah . Right , so you go to a bar , yeah 25,000 .
Speaker 2And now he's got like two , his mom and his dad . That's about it , because he got lit up on social media . I mean this guy was an absolute idiot . But yeah , just don't do it . Don't vape on an aircraft , okay . And then the other one . I seen this woman . She had this huge wild tirade in Orlando's International Airport . Did you guys see this ?
Speaker 1No .
Speaker 2She went apeshit , man . She missed the standby list two times . She starts yelling at this gate agent , tries to kick him Wait standby list . Starts yelling at this . This gate agent tries to kick him wait , standby list . What do you mean ? So , whatever happened with their flight , you know how they're put on the next list . They go to standby on the next plane . Well , she didn't make it , so the planes were full and so she didn't make the the next flight . So two flights later , she's still not getting on . So she goes crazy , starts kicking this uh gate agent , loses it , smashes a couple computers and then she is arrested . Now , all of this , you end up with a $5,000 bail and she was allowed to return home . What an idiot , idiot . What an idiot , I mean seriously . I mean all you're doing is traveling , so you're trying to get home , and out of that you end up going to jail .
Speaker 1Yeah , this situation happens so many times in the airline business that the airlines shut down for whatever reason . There's technology glitches , there's weather , whatever but then there's only so many seats and so many planes leaving out , and so that's sometimes cascades where people can't get on a plane for days , you know right . So we've been in those situations for numerous different reasons , whether it be a hurricane , or whether technology shut down or whatever . I mean you need to keep your shit cool , right ? It's affecting everybody , you know , but I mean when you can't get your shit cool right , it's affecting everybody , you know , but I mean when you can't get on a plane , there's no reason .
Speaker 2No , I mean , and like I said , you know , we see a lot of these different things happen all the time on the airplane and in the gate area . But man , this was absolutely crazy . I just don't understand these people . I mean , you've seen enough of these videos that you're going to jail . I mean , everybody has you on video , they have you on their phones , they have all this information , the court . All they do is basically say , okay , you're guilty , that's it .
Speaker 2I mean , you're going to jail , you're paying whatever fines is , and that's it , I mean . But I don't understand why would you do that ? Why would you just keep doing this ? I mean , we see these videos all the time and these people end up going to jail . Don't learn the lesson at all .
Speaker 1Yeah , you know what I mean . I understand when , like well , I can understand this happening when , like , people are being influenced right Drugs , alcohol , all those types of stuff Influenced right , drugs , alcohol , all those types of stuff but we're just getting more and more sober people out here , just like you know , just losing their shit . Entitlement yeah , entitlement .
Speaker 2We have a lot of those people flying . Yeah , okay , really , it's actually about 1% , because we say that all the time . It's 1% of the flying public that has that entitlement issue . Yeah , 1%'s , one percent of the flying public that has that entitlement issue one percent , because 99 of the people we we fly with are phenomenal . I mean we have a lot of great people we fly with yeah , blake , have you ?
Speaker 1have you , um , had uh like , uh , is that like anything the big thing or what's a big annoyance for you being a new flight attendant ?
Speaker 1yeah , people in first class expecting everything the entitlement , yeah part yeah I mean , I get like to me like first class , like , and not every airline has first class , right , okay , so we all know that , but the ones that are paying for this upgraded service and us giving the service , it was like I think that's , you know , like there's a certain level of expectations , but sometimes people are just like taking it beyond , right , yeah , and that's what we're really saying out there , like we're not , we're not saying that everybody in first class are dicks and we hate them all .
Speaker 1We say no , no , no , it's those . It's the person that comes on board and they know what the service is and they know what they're supposed to be getting , and then they're like no , but can you go back in the back and I need , you know , snack boxes and I need a cheeseburger and in addition to the meal I just got , you know , that's when it goes to that level . That's beyond what we are like as a flight attendant , like what we think is like unreasonable , you know . So I'm just trying to put a perspective on this or , for people that are listening , you know , it's not that everybody's a dick .
Speaker 3Most people are great .
Speaker 1Yeah , most people are awesome . It's just how you treat someone .
Speaker 2It's never we talked about this on the other podcast is that it's ? It's not about your title , it's not about the money that you make , it's not about any of that . It's how do you treat another person . It doesn't matter what their job is , because in our industry , man , you'll get a lot out of a crew member just by being nice .
Speaker 1Yeah , I want to say one thing about that . So I was coming back from Denver and the wife and I we non-rev around places , but every now and then we buy a ticket , and so I needed to get back because I had a flight and all that stuff and it was like . So my wife was like let's buy tickets , so we bought first class tickets . So the flight attendants did a really good job . It wasn't like exceptional , where it was like over the top because I know what their job is right , so I know they were did they did their job , they did it well and all this stuff .
Speaker 1And when , when I travel I always have I buy like a whole stack of Starbucks cards and stuff like that . So I gave the two flight attendants that were working for me Starbucks cards and they were so appreciative . You know we love getting little gifts and stuff like that , but this goes along the lines of service . Anybody that's giving you service , like I'm , like I tip my maids , like when I'm on a hotel I always leave five bucks or something like that . If I , if the room clean , right , if there didn't , they've done their job and all this stuff , I think , okay , you know these people are served , given doing a service for us .
Speaker 3So I'll give them something you don't have to tip everybody , but I think it's nice when people do something right or they're doing their job . You should recognize them . No , I agree , you bring me a Reese cup , I'll be your best friend for life .
Speaker 1That's true too . There you go .
Speaker 2They bring us candy all the time too .
Speaker 1Yeah , they give us a bag . Sometimes it's an overload , especially in the holidays . Like the holidays , we get so much candy .
Speaker 2It's cool though , but it's cool they . They walk on board and they just hand it to you and you just kind of stack it up in the first class , galley .
Speaker 1I really enjoy the unexpected ones . Like in our industry it's always , you know , the Starbucks cards , the , you know like the bag of candy and all this stuff , but I've had like some interesting original things and have you guys had anything like that ?
Speaker 3Yeah .
Speaker 1What was one of yours ?
Speaker 3I got a little prayer quilt that a grandma had made , that's awesome you gee , well , I got those .
Speaker 2You know , they give you these little bags , those little mesh bags , and they fill them full of a bunch of different shit . So I mean I've gotten all kinds of stuff .
Speaker 1So but you know and but nothing that's like stood out to you like this is super original . Like super thoughtful . No yeah I haven't .
Speaker 1Like one sticks out of my head , like there was a gal that actually they put a , a handwritten note in in the thing and then they inside they gave us like a bracelet that they had made or something like that , like a friendship bracelet type of thing , and I was like this is cool , like this is like . You know , that's going way beyond what we're even talking about here , but it's like it's nice to be recognized , right .
So anyhow , I was thinking , you know Belacke is going to travel , when are you going next ?
Speaker 3I'm going to Budapest , bratislava and then Vienna .
Speaker 2All right so when Belacke gets back from Budapest . Budapesh , budapest , bratislava and then Vienna . All right so when Blacke gets back from Budapest .
Speaker 1Budapesh , budapesh , pesh . There you go . Well , that is a destination that I love . I'm telling you right now , you're going to love Budapest .
Speaker 2No , but when he gets back , let's have him back . Let's do it . Let's have him back and you can tell us about , um , what you experienced . Take some videos and then what we'll do is we'll do like , uh , fun clips and we'll do a clip on , uh , where you're at and where you're going . We could call it where in the hell is blake ? Yeah , block , a , block , a where's block ?
Speaker 3a where's ?
Speaker 2that sounds fun . Let's do it all right , man . Hey , listen , blocky . It was a lot of fun having you on the show today .
Speaker 3Yeah , Thanks for having me guys .
Speaker 1Yeah , yeah , yeah , we got to like , like , tell your friends , we're friendly , we have fun , come on . We have this thing where , like , all these flight attendants don't want to come on and talk about their own story and stuff , and it's interesting to see where other flight attendants you know how they got this job and where they're coming from and all that stuff , because we're all different , right ? So , blake , hey , I wanted to ask you . There's one thing that we do with guests and we like to do a rapid fire questions . We didn't give you this , ok , and I want to just you know this quick questions . I know we didn't give you any notes about this . Give me the answers that you think , all right . So , uh , uh , window seats or aisle window window seats and best airplane snack .
Speaker 1Best cough and overpack or under uh prepared over Yep and favorite digit character . We already got that guy Mickey , mickey uh , most overrated tourist attraction . It's a small word , I know it is Damn Blake , he answered that for you , that's right . Souvenir You're most embarrassed about .
Speaker 3Oh , I bought a llama , a llama .
Speaker 1Not a real llama . Like a like a not a real llama like a stuffed llama that's llama . Yeah , cool , and if you could uh teleport to one place you've been uh where ? To go back , yeah , prague prague sweet , awesome , there we go . Wanted to hit this rapid fire questions . What'd you think about ?
Speaker 2doing the podcast . It was fun yeah . Yeah , it's different , isn't ?
Speaker 3it . It's a good energy .
Speaker 2Yeah , I mean it is a positive energy and we do learn from it . As you can tell , we all make mistakes , and I make them on a regular basis , but I always laugh through them and if not , sean will basically correct me , I'll laugh at him , that's cool .
Speaker 2He gets a little pain in the ass self , but anyway , hey , no , seriously , it was great having you on here . I can't wait to have you back . And let's end this with the quote . What's the quote , gene ? Remember , airplanes take off against the wind , not with the wind . Henry Ford .
Speaker 1There you go . You know what . Take off against the wind , not with the wind . Henry Ford , there you go . You know what . Don't take off without not against the wind , because that's not going to be helpful . No , you're going to have a little trouble getting off the ground . You are A little lift problem .
Speaker 2Anyway , hey , listen guys , we had a great time this week , we are looking forward to next week and we are going to have a lot of fun when Belaki comes back .
