Airport Etiquette That Breaks Brains

Shawn

All right, Sean, why do people at the end of a moving sidewalk in an airport act like it's a scenic point at the Grand Canyon?

G

I hate that dude. I almost like panic, don't you? Yeah. Like when people like they're like stopping and like, uh, what do I do? Keep walking, damn it.

Shawn

It is horrible though. I mean, it it is uh it it's like crime against common sense at the airport. It's but it's human, it's those human behaviors we see at the airport all the time. All the time. Right? Yep. I mean, we see all kinds of different human behaviors. All right, on phones. On phones, walking.

G

I can't stand it. I can't pay attention. I don't can't. I I don't mind if they can like walk and talk. Yeah. But most people can't do two things chewing gum, you know, skipping rope. They can't do it. Yeah, a couple of conversation.

Shawn

How about how about walking down the middle of the airport, acting like nobody else is there?

G

Oh, those freaking self-centered spread out family.

Shawn

There's five of them, and they all have to stand in a line. Why? Why? Why? Doesn't make any sense.

G

Why are you blocking the entire concourse and slowing down the whole entire consequence? Here's my other thing, you know, that I noticed. Like when it'd be traveling international, right? So here in the United States, what size, what side of the walkway or the hallway do we walk on? Oh, it's right. We were walking to right, right? Yeah. Go to Japan. Where do they walk? I have no idea. On the left. See, there's a problem. So I'm walking, I'm like, whoa, what's happening? But it's because they they drive just like in England. Yeah. You know, they're on the left side of the road. Right. So it's like they're total opposite. So they are used to that, like that brain flow, and then we kind of like interject ourselves into that culture. And I'm like, wait a minute. And you feel like you're like you're going swimming upstream like a freaking salmon or something, you know? Yeah. It's it's wild.

Shawn

Okay, how about seat savers? Seat savers. Give me a break. You know the ones. I mean, as soon as you get into a gate area, right? They got all their shit piled up on all the seats.

G

Yeah. I mean, seat savers everywhere. It drives me crazy. All right. So wait, wait. Whether you're going to like whether you're in an airport or a concert or uh at a restaurant or whatever, or any public place where it's just general admission type of thing. Yeah. Like seat savers, are you kidding me?

Shawn

How about baggage blockers? These are the down in the baggage claim that are blocking the shit, like, you know, you can't get it. My bags first.

G

This is my area. Right? Well, on the opposite end, like I'll come down. Like, have you been where I know you don't travel that much and check bags that much, but you mean wait a minute.

Shawn

You mean I don't personally personally. Let's tell you what I travel every damn day. You're not enjoying life like myself. Exactly. Okay, I'm a customer.

G

I had to get that straight for a minute. When you when you get when I go down to badge claim, like you'll be in, especially in these big airports, you know, and everybody does. They get kind of like, okay, this is my spot waiting for the bags coming, all this stuff. And then I'm just you're standing there and waiting, and it's inevitable. Somebody just like steps right in front of you. You're like, what's going on? Like, I've been standing here for the last 20 minutes. What are you talking about? Why are you get out of my way? This is my spot. Right. Yeah.

Shawn

Baggage blockers. Baggage blockers. All right. This is since you are the since you are the passenger a lot more than me. Yeah. All right. How about how about when you exactly? How about when you go through security and it's like the grocery store and you get behind that one damn person that brought all the wrong shit in TSA. You waited like you waited like an hour to get up to finally, finally, you're going to put your shit up on a belt.

G

Dude, here's one I just had lately. This is this is priceless. I'm in Vegas. It's early in the morning. We're going through, we're going through TSA pre-check, where you have to have, you know, you have to have signed up and done your interview and got your pre-checked, you know, authorization to go through it. And it's on your ticket says pre-check. So this lady goes through the freaking line, and on the when she gets to the line, she's not pre-checked. Not pre-checked. Nope. Denied. She's like, why can't you just let me through here? I've been waiting all this time. No, you have to go to the general line. That's where you're supposed to go. No, I want to go. She starts arguing. I want a supervisor over here. Supervisor comes over. Who's the next person in line? I'm like, bitch. See? I know out of this line. Exactly. I'm going to jerk you out right now. Oh, they're being so patient with her and everything. So then she's like, fine. I'm not, I'll go to the other line. Then she takes a water bottle and she slams it down on their counter and walks away. And they're like, no. Hey, come here. Yeah. Get them get this bottle right now. And she's like, I don't want that. Get this bottle, or you're not going through the next security. Like it was like she was, she didn't realize that she's hitting all the wrong buttons. Right. She made all the mistakes and now she's escalating. Yeah, now she's escalating. And the TSA is like escalating.

Shawn

You're good. Yeah, that was good. Yeah. So, anyways, yeah, I hate that

Gate Lemmings And Outlet Drama

Shawn

shit. Please, people. Okay, the reason why I want to talk about human human behaviors. So I had a bunch of airport appreciation time. Yeah. Which you don't. Because being the international flight attendant, that's what he is now.

G

I like this international man of my international man of mystery. Yeah, whatever.

Shawn

Austin Powers, yeah. Yeah, baby. Yeah, that's you. So I I have the airport appreciation time. I had three and a half hours this week.

G

Don't miss it.

Shawn

I get it. I guess I've been there. All right. So you know what we do. Right. We go find an open area. I go sit. Now there's no flights going out, no people. Plug my stuff in. I'm like, I'm in heaven. I got three and a half hours. There ain't no flights coming in here. I'm good. Right? As soon as I sat down, this family, you know what I mean? They're like stalking.

unknown

Oh.

Shawn

Looking. I'm like, no, you no.

G

No, no, no, no. And it's almost you almost hear like the Jaws music. You know, dun dun dun.

Shawn

It's the truth. And you just know. You don't want to make you don't make eye contact. No. Right? You're like, no, don't look at him.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Don't look at. Well, the kid comes over. He he doesn't put his bag like in between me. He sits right next to me.

G

Next to you.

Shawn

Yeah. And he puts his bag on the seat to the left of him. And now I'm looking at his whole family.

G

They're all set right across from me. Right across from me. They're all looking at you.

Shawn

And this is me going.

G

You're the solo guy at the gate, and they all just piled on top.

Shawn

There's like a hundred seats, Sean. A hundred seats. And you know this, and the top it off, the top it off. Human human behavior, right? He reaches down between, excuse me, and to move my leg, so he can plug his plug in the same outlet as me, and he's got one on the left hand side.

G

It's priceless, dude. You know what? This reminds me of lemmings. What? Lemmings. You know what a lemming is? No. Lemmings are they there's like a video game of lemmings, too. But basically, lemmings are these little creatures that are like they live up in the north and everything. And if one will jump off the cliff, the other one jumps off the cliff. That's what these people are. They're a bunch of lemmings. They're just like doing whatever thing. They saw you sitting over there, they should be going over there to sit. They're a bunch of damn lemmings.

Shawn

All right, lemmings. Lemmings. Whatever. So I'm sitting in between the international terminal and domestic terminal. I'm like tucked away in the corner because I had to get up. Right. I'm not staying.

SPEAKER_02

No.

Shawn

So then I went over to this other area. Totally get that. Funniest thing is watching people from different countries. Oh yeah. Yeah. Because you have what? Okay, two little Chinese kids. They're sitting across from me. Now mom's over there, they got these two little iPads. And the the one brother, you can tell, you can't understand anything that they're saying. Sure. But you know, because I got brothers. And I'm like, these two are gonna get at it, man.

Body Language Is Universal

G

And body languages universal.

Shawn

Yeah, you got the big brother and the little brother, and they're going, they're they're they're just pouncing on each other back and forth. The little one turns around. What? Spits. Spit on his brother? On the big one on the side of his face. Now the big one turns around. No, he turned around and looked at him like Bruce Lee from Enter the Dragon. He just looked at him and he knew the little brother knew, right? He did the wrong thing.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Boy jumped like a ninja over the top of his mom onto the other side. The big brother was looking at him like this.

G

I'm telling you right now. He was like stunned and eyes to kill. I'm gonna tell you right now, I would have had that freaking iPad and have been like, whap. I need a new iPad mom. He'd have killed him. He'd have killed him. I'm not kidding.

Shawn

Yeah, I would have. But you know, I love it because you kidding me.

G

That's a nasty.

Shawn

It was, but it was funny.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

I mean, I got to look at it and it was funny. It was hilarious. But they, you know, when you're watching these um families come through, so you watch an American family, dad's yelling at the kids. You I can understand that, right?

SPEAKER_02

Right.

Shawn

Ten minutes later, Chinese family comes. Dad's yelling at the kids, right? You come through, you see young couples arguing in English. You come through, you got a Chinese couple back and forth going at it, right? Little brothers and sisters tagging each other as they're going.

G

It's funny. Like a body language is so universal. Like maybe you can totally pick up. And you know what the cool thing about like our job is that we've like so many years of doing this, we're so in tune to like body language.

Shawn

Oh, yeah. Yeah. I mean, that's what I was saying. I mean, if when airport appreciation time sucks, right? You know it does. I mean, it's no fun. You don't have it anymore, but it does suck. But the best part is stuff like that. When you get to see things like that, that's entertaining. Best part. Okay. What did you think? We didn't talk about this one.

Wildfire Smoke And Low Visibility

Shawn

What did you think about those Canadian wildfires that caused all that damn smoke? Oh, dude, that was crazy.

G

Awful. That was crazy. For all the people in the so um, what was it, two, three years ago when California had all those fires? Yeah. When I went out and visit Arthur my buddy out in Colorado, all that smoke was coming down toward, you know, heading east, and it was the same effect as what we got here. But then we got it here recently with that Canadian fire. And dude, the visibility bad. I mean, that's terrible.

Shawn

I mean, okay, you know, our area was in the bad zone.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Right? We were in the bad zone. But I flew in and we were like half mile visibility.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

I mean, it was crazy.

G

You can't Carol, when she came in, she was saying they almost had to like go to another airport because it was down to the exact minimum so the you know the visibility for their uh landing.

Shawn

It's crazy how you can, I mean, as soon as you're you're coming down, you can smell it. It comes in the plane, and then you open it up and it's like this nasty old campfire.

G

Are are you a campfire? Like, do you like to smell a campfire?

Shawn

I love the smell of campfire, but as soon as I come home from it, the first thing I do is take all my clothes off, leave it in the garage, and you got to go shower because that's that shit will stink up your bed bad. I can't tell you, like it's bad.

G

You know, you know me because you know me for so many years. Any type of smoke, right? Cigarette smoke. I mean, back in the day with us going to the clubs and stuff, like all that stuff, going into clubs, smoke saturating back in the day when they when you could smoke in the clubs and stuff like that. Um, it was it was awful, but that's how that smoke was. Yeah, it was so saturating. And the interesting thing too for me was that one of the really bad days where they were recommending us not to go outside and all that stuff. I drove over to Indiana. And when I drove over to Indiana, because it was south and more west, like it dissipated all the smoke and stuff. They had smoke, but it was it was it was not even close to what it was here in Cleveland. Yeah, yeah. I mean, you could see, I think it got down to like you know, you could see 10 miles, you know, like that was thick for them.

Shawn

It's like for us, it was like Mother Nature pulled the filter, right? Oh yeah. I mean, it was bad, but the the cool thing though is that temperatures cooled down, right? We had a little bit of rain, yeah. Next thing you know, cleared up, cleared up. Yeah, it's it's amazing.

G

It's amazing.

Shawn

Those things were like 500, what is it, five, seven hundred miles away. I think the nearest fire was like from us, it was like five to seven hundred miles away.

G

Yeah, crazy how that's I think what I'm fascinated about, you know, me being in school and I just took a class on like natural disasters and all that stuff, and we were talking about global warming and all that stuff. And I don't know if people realize this, but like forest fires and natural disasters like volcanoes and fires, like create more emissions than the whole entire United States does in an entire year. Yeah. And you know, when you're always talking about this argument about is there global warming and stuff, I think the earth itself, you know, it's adjusting to everything that's on it and living in it and all that stuff. And I think it's a continuous process. You know, if you look over time, the earth has warmed up and cooled down many times.

Shawn

But but it is crazy though. I mean, talk about cleansing, right? Right. So you you had all that smoke and the air was bad and and everything was really bad. And then the next day, again, like I said, Mother Nature cleaned it all up.

G

Cleaned it all up. It was nice, it was clear. Yeah turned in, and dude, we've had beautiful weather here in the last few days, right?

Shawn

It was, yeah, it was beautiful. Man, so um coming out of coming out of Cleveland, I had to tell you too, ran into this.

Passenger Stories And Travel Nursing

Shawn

Um, we ran into a lot of cool passengers. Yeah. So I was talking to this nurse. Now, we have a lot of nurses, a lot of doctors from everyone, right? This is the clinic. This is this is the clinic. This is a Mecca. Hospital Mecca. Yeah, this is Mecca of hospitals. But anyway, she was going, she was going out to San Francisco. So we got in this conversation. I'm like, what are you going out there? Like conference or something? She goes, No, I work, I work on a trauma unit out there. I'm like, wait. Why? But why out there? Yeah. I'm like, you commute? And she goes, Yeah. You you commute from you got the clinic here and you commute all the way to San Francisco. And she goes, Yeah. She goes, it's the money. Uh so she said the money on in San Francisco.

G

Oh, it's got to be crazy, unbelievable. Um especially when you can uh compare like cost of living out there to here, yeah, and probably what the wages are out there to here. Yeah, I guess it's gotta be worth the commute, right?

Shawn

She pays for the tickets. She's one of our one of our elite members, but I thought that was kind of I've never heard that.

G

No.

Shawn

I mean, I've heard a lot of things, but I have never heard of a nurse that commutes for a trauma unit.

G

Well, I know I do know that one I had a gal in one of my classes, she was a traveling nurse. Right. And traveling nurses actually make more than any of the nurses, yeah, in any level, because they get all these extra perks and pay and all this stuff for doing the traveling, and they're on like temper temporary contracts. So instead of being a nurse where you're hired to a hospital and that's your job, and you go to this one hospital, they're going to like several different hospitals and they'll go there for like six months, 90 days, 30 days, you know, whatever. These little it's just short contracts, and they just like boom, boom, boom. So they're negotiating their salaries continuously, which is pretty cool. Yeah.

Shawn

Other passenger I had on board was kind of fun too. It was a little kid that it was a lap child. We have a lot of laps.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

This kid looked like he he was graduating uh kindergarten.

G

Baby Huey?

Shawn

Yeah. Yeah. We just had another one. We had another one today. It was so funny. Chris, Chris was like, Gary, go go go look at the lap child and in Nine Bravo. Is a mini man? Thought it was gonna be like bilingual. I'm like, why would you why'd you just buy a ticket? I mean, they were huge.

G

I don't get, you know, there's with that's an airline thing. I know, I know. We we talk about this, like I could see them slipping past the gate agents. I could see them, you know, getting on board and all this stuff, but when we get on board and then we see those freaking baby monsters. Nah. Yeah, like that baby monster. Yeah, you got you gotta like, you gotta, you gotta shut that shit down. You'd be like, uh no, let's call somebody over here. Let's re-evaluate the situation because this isn't safe. Because there's a weight restriction to like, even though they're under two, they can't have kids that are giant kids. Yeah. Because there's a weight restriction. You can only you can't people can't hold on to 50 pounds of anybody, okay? With the amount of g forces you're gonna go through if you had accidents. I agree.

Shawn

No way, I agree, yeah. But baby Huey was on.

A Greece Layover Done Right

G

Yep.

Shawn

So what went on in Greece, man? I've been waiting for you to tell me. You know I love Greece, too.

G

Yeah, yeah, yeah. So my last one of my last trips, I went to Greece and I get I get uh on the plane and I'm flying with this gal that I've flown with. Actually, she was on my first trip. Remember when I did my first trip international trip? Yeah, it was to Greece. Really? And she was on that trip.

Shawn

Oh, that's right, it was, wasn't it?

G

Yeah, so she was on that trip. So she was like, Hey Sean, how's it going? Blah, blah, blah. And I was like, Oh, wait a minute. This is when you forgot the coat. The forgot the coat, your jacket. No, you didn't leave. Remember you left your jacket on? You was going to be able to do that. Oh, yeah, but that was it wasn't with her, it wasn't it was that that trip that left my jacket. You are correct. All right. Um, but see, anyway, yeah, yeah, you connected it. Yeah, that was that trip. I have I have a new system, so I won't leave my jacket anymore. But anyways, um, so anyway, she's on there, she says, Hey, you know, what are you doing on your layover? And I'm like, I don't know. I was gonna, I hadn't done the hop on, hop-off bus because that's kind of a cool thing to do when you go international just to get a layout of the city and stuff like that. I said, I'm thinking of doing that, go to dinner with the crew, whatever. And she's like, Hey, I'm going over to a Greek island, you want to go? And I'm like, What? She's like, Yeah, I mean my family's going to this Greek island. And this Greek island, I have to, it's called uh Ajana is how it's pronounced, Ajana, and it's like a 40 uh 40-minute ferry ride over to this thing, and it was the coolest experience. Even though I was tired as hell, I got over there. Greeks they do this all summer. They go to these islands, they sit at these restaurants, they sit there all day long. Like in America, no restaurant's gonna let you sit there all day long in the restaurant.

Shawn

Do you know what's crazy about Greeks though, too? What's that? Is that what they don't start their nights until late. Yeah, until late. I mean, they they come home, they eat dinner like that.

G

That's kind of all that that's like European. A lot of European places do that.

Shawn

Didn't want to interrupt you, but that was that I I remember that is specifically about Yeah.

G

But it was just the cool experience of like, um, we're sitting at this table and we're like literally 15 feet from the water, and we are in our bathing suits, and we in fact I wasn't in my bathing suits. I got up and went into the restroom, changed into beding suit, came back out, jumped into water, got back off, sit at the table, drinking, eating, did this multiple times. Not one time did a restaurant person be like, hey, you guys gotta move, I need this table, or somebody, you know, it wasn't that way. Not like, give us a tip, you need to get your ass out of here. Yeah, we got a two-hour limit. And you exceeded, and you're out of here. I'm taking them like every day they were like, Yeah, they explained this that uh Greeks they do this where they they do this every day with their friends all summer long. Yeah, and I was like, that's awesome. Yeah, good chill. The food was great. We just I told them I'm like, order whatever you want to order because I want to I want to experience everything. They get we had like these little fried fish, like whole fish, that were just like cleaned, but then lightly breaded, super delicious. We had all these like uh green grape leaves and you know the stuffed grape leaves. We had all the we had this stuff that I would say was Baba Ganoush, but they called it something different. They were like, it's not Baba Ganoosh. It is eggplant and it is ground up, it's got some garlic in it.

Shawn

But you dare say it's Baba Ganoosh.

G

I don't know what it was, I don't know what the name of it, but it was awesome. Yeah, all the food was awesome. But we just sat there and just it was just so did you come back with your jacked up stomach this time?

Shawn

Because you've been coming back.

G

You know what? I did not. See, that's that was that was that was one thing that was on that trip. I did not come back with a jacked up stomach. That was like I I was like, man. That you're definitely going back. I thought uh well, I'll be back there in what in two days. Yeah, yeah. So uh, but yeah, it was it was awesome, man. The the island that this island's known for, and I just like was reading some history about this island. I guess like through all these years, and you know, all these different people that owned Greece and took over, you know, that island was always like a rebel island, yeah, it was always fighting with Athens, and I guess eventually it turned into they like each other and and it's known for pistachios growing.

Shawn

That's kind of cool because most people, when they talk about Greece, they talk about Mykonos and Santorini. Yeah, right? Yeah, and then you don't hear this one. No, it's kind of cool.

G

There's so many islands there. There's so many islands.

Shawn

Oh, I know, I know, but you don't hear about you, you only hear usually about Mykonos and Santorini. Yeah, you don't you don't hear about like like a lot of these little places like that.

G

No, but I will tell you this is one thing that did happen that was negative on the trip.

The Unprepared Crew Member Problem

G

I had the fucked up crew member. Let me let me tell you have you had you've been in this situation, yeah. I know you've been in this situation. Situation many times. This gal had bit into a galley position on a wide body aircraft international that has a lot first class. You hey, there's a lot of movement parts on that thing. Yeah, and I don't care. Like that intimidates me. Like, I've been doing this job for a long time, but on a wide body aircraft, it's just the service is so much more elaborate. Right. And she got in there and she was like an alien. She didn't know what she was doing. She like all of a sudden, like, I'm dumb. I don't know. How do I set up a cart? How do I do this? What you mean I have to set up two carts at the same time? Like, she was like, I don't know if I could do that. Like, we're like, whatever. Dude, you you like we gotta get this done. You gotta start learning or figuring it out because we gotta get it done. So then we get done with this first leg two grease, and the lead flight attendant was like, She's like, I gotta talk to her. And so she sat down with this girl and was like, gave her the whole thing. Here is material. This is where you go in your manual, this is where you find how to do this. These are where there's an there's a like uh PDFs on where each bend is, what's in it tonight? I want you to go study this tomorrow. Come ready to work.

Shawn

Because you jacked all the shit up, yeah. Right. I mean, it it seriously, when when someone does that, they they jack it up.

G

And it it it it the whole it spreads to everybody, yeah. Because the number one thing that international crew wants to do is what? Go take your nap. Go take our nap, man. We want to take our nap. Yeah, and and she's jacking it up. We had the first that flight going over, she actually delayed it. So everybody from the back was coming up, like trying to help. Are you you guys can we help you? Can we get it? Like, I was like, listen, we're not slow. She don't know what the hell she's doing. Yeah. Yeah. So, anyways, the next day uh she gets on flight. We're thinking, okay, at least she like figured it out. Did she think she did it? No. No.

Shawn

No, because what they do, they don't do their due diligence. No, they just come in there and they they think, well, whatever. I'm just gonna go to Greece and I'm gonna pick this this this position up. I've never worked it, I'll figure it out when I get on there.

G

You and I would never do that. No, I would never be on that cart.

Shawn

You know, I'd be on that cart. And now I would come up and learn.

G

Yeah, what I'm saying is we would never get into a position or put ourselves in that position. I wouldn't put the crew in the position. Prepping myself for that position. Right. I wouldn't put the crew in the position. She didn't have the self like um integrity to like, it's kind of like showing up to recurrent training, not prepared. Yeah. You know, like, what are you thinking? And I don't get people like that. Dude, there's a menu.

Shawn

You could take a menu and stick it on the wall and and know exactly what the hell you're serving.

G

Yeah. That's all you have to do. The whole the whole thing is. But it's frustrating, though. I mean frustrating, man.

Shawn

As a crew member, as a crew member, it's frustrating. As a passenger, the service is crap. Right. Because you don't you don't get anything.

G

Here's the other thing that happened with it. There was a let like this is how it impacts like the rest of the crew. So we have two breaks. So if the flight's 10 hours, that the we we have like a middle section of the flight, and say that's uh that's six hours in there. Well, they're gonna split that in half, kind of sort of I'm speeding this whole thing up, and it's like you're gonna get two and a half hours, three hours, each group, and we take turns, one or two, right? Well, we went to our sleep, it was only like it was two hours and 40 minutes, is was our break. We come back from our break. I walk up my side of the aircraft, which is the B side of the aisle, and I'm like, there's not one thing picked up in the cabin. Every person in first class had piles of shit. So I immediately go get a train, I'm like, picket's drone anything. The lead flags. She's like, she's like, that's a lot of trash. I'm like, evidently, nobody picked up trash, and it was this gal. She stayed in the galley two hours and 40 minutes and never came back. How in the hell did you keep it? Dude, I was I was I wanted to be bent. I wanted a punch in her face. I wanted a bitch slap her big time. Anyways, on to other stuff, man. Positive things have been happening too. Like uh, we I've been traveling, all this stuff.

Don’t Fly Sick Plus The Salad Scare

G

We did uh, you know, you were out sick, and by the way, how are you doing? I'm good. You see, you're good now. Upper respiratory, so you're talking good.

Shawn

I'll say this real quick. The only reason that, and I apologize for for not doing uh cabin pressure, but the only reason was one, I didn't want to get you sick because you were going to Athens. Two, I'd have heard you bitching for the next week and a half. You know, that would have been like four or five episodes. Yeah, you'd have kept you would have kept saying it. You came over here and your ass was sick. You should have, you should have called out.

G

Hey, but that relates that relates to being a flight attendant. Like, that's one of our like our peefs. Like, yeah, there's this, there's this dynamic with flight attendants. Like when you're a young flight attendant, new, and you're trying to make that money and you're trying to come to work and stuff, and you get sick, which you know all new flight attendants get sick because this is too hard of a job. Yeah, it's a good thing. Immune systems get compromised and all that stuff. But like the one thing you shouldn't be doing is come to work sick. But I mean, there's so many situations where it's like, I gotta go to work, I gotta pay my bills. Yeah, you know, you there's all that dynamics go falling into it. But I mean, as you get to be a more senior flight attendant stuff, just don't do it. Don't you don't need to be coming to work sick.

Shawn

Don't do it. But the funny thing about it is right after, right after um, you know, that sick, I I was feeling a little bit better, right? Right. Then I had a salad. Well, I had a salad, and then I woke up in the morning, I started reading that the the bag salads had the were were contaminated, right? And everybody was getting this explosive diarrhea, yeah. That's explosive diarrhea. And they and they they listed the name of the farms that was listed on there, and they said, Yeah, it said Taylor Farms. So I went back in the refrigerator. Son of you gotta be kidding me. Taylor Farms. Taylor Farms. Did you get the shits? No. Oh, you can't do it. But I you know, because the best part was okay, it wasn't the romaine.

G

Oh, okay.

Shawn

It was the they didn't say that the iceberg lettuce. It was the iceberg go figure, right? Taco Bell.

G

Oh no.

Shawn

Yeah, it's shredded Taco Bell blow you up anyway. Dude, you don't need it. Exactly. They probably had infected lettuce for ever. Contaminated every time you eat it because it absolutely blows you apart.

G

You know what? I think honestly, doctors should, you know, when you're going to get a colonoscopy, they should be like, go eat 10 Taco Bell tacos.

Shawn

Exactly, go get that mega pack. That stuff will clean you straight out. Flush it out. Exactly. But no, that was it. I mean, you know, but it that was the funny part. You wake up and I'm eating contaminated lettuce. Oh, dude. But yeah.

G

But no, no, I'm good. That's good. That's good, man. But yeah, uh, anyways, I've been like doing so much

Summer Trips And The Fever Game

G

stuff. It's summertime right now. We are traveling, moving, having fun, doing all this stuff, you know, like business and family. We've been doing all this cool stuff with my niece. Nieces are just like in heaven right now. We did a uh a whirlwind weekend uh last weekend. We went to the fever game in Indianapolis, and then we went and saw Benson Boone. Benson Boone, you know who he is? Yeah, dude. If he didn't one flip, I don't know. I mean, he he's singing and flipping all night long. Yeah, it's the wildest thing.

Shawn

Yeah, the fever would have been a better one for me because I think that that it's awesome. Fever was awesome.

G

Yeah, it started off they were losing really bad. Yeah, that no, that was really bad, and then they came back and just smottered them like by 20 points or something like that. It was crazy. Trash talking. Yeah, the girl, the girls are like I that's what I said. I mean, they're they're battling at it now. Yeah, I mean, and those tickets aren't cheap too. Well, look at that. Those tickets were more expensive than the Benson Boone concert. Was the stands packed? Oh, it was packed.

Shawn

I know.

unknown

Packed.

Shawn

They just love they they love to watch uh Caitlin and and Sophie, and well, actually, the whole team.

G

I I'd love to see a game like in another arena for another WMB Day team because Caitlin brings them. Yeah, you know, and so it gets packed. I mean, there's so many people they got Caitlin shirts and all that, you know, like whole families walking around. Caitlin Clark.

Shawn

Sophie is the next one.

G

Sophie. So I like a Sophie. Yeah. No figure. That's you, man. That is you. Yeah. Anyway, so uh what you what else you mean?

Shawn

What have you been doing?

Intermittent Fasting On A Flight Schedule

Shawn

So I tried this. Have you ever did that intermittent fasting? Yes. Okay, so um, just briefly, yeah. I started doing that. I'm like on day, I don't know, 12. Hardest damn thing with that thing, 16 hours without eating. Is it start?

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Like the first five to seven days.

G

You're so hungry.

Shawn

All you're thinking about is food.

G

Oh, you could think about it. As soon as you stop, yeah. You're like, okay, you're looking at the clock. I got 16 hours.

Shawn

I'm like this. It's like right now. It's like right now.

G

Right.

Shawn

I I I know right now in in just a couple minutes I can't eat.

G

Yeah. So so you when do you start yours? Eight. Eight. You started at eight. So I go eight to noon. Eight to noon. Yeah. Yeah.

Shawn

So eight to noon is zero calories.

G

Sixteen, sixteen hours, right? Sixteen hours. Yeah. Yeah. So I did the same thing, but I would start at seven. And like in the beginning, I only did 14 hours. So like I can see why. Yeah. In the beginning, like I just and they recommend that you do it only like sometimes they only recommend like do 12. Right. Then do 14, you know, step it up, kind of ease into it week to week, because that first couple weeks are it's a bitch.

Shawn

I mean, I went straight to the 16, man. Yeah. And it was, it was, it's been crazy because I mean, I'm looking at the minutes. I mean, 1159, dude, I got my fork ready. Yeah. I'm not getting, I got my fork ready. You know, because you got to up your protein, you up your protein. So I'm making these chicken patties and everything. I'm sitting there going, okay, calories of this, this.

G

But hey, have you found ready to eat? Have you found though, like now later into it, like you're not doing that so much? Like you're not like gorging yourself when you come back.

Shawn

What I found out is this, and I absolutely love this. On the plane, we get bloated. Yeah. Like a freaking balloon, man. And I have not been bloated at all. I mean, not at all. And that has been the best thing about this. I mean, it's the the eating it hard is hard. But you know, I've already dropped, I think yesterday I I weighed in at like 198. I've been 198.

G

I don't even want to tell you how much I weigh.

Shawn

I haven't been 198 for a long time. It's been a long time.

G

I think I just dropped my soft year, sophomore year in high school.

Shawn

Really? You can even remember that far.

G

I think that's the last time I was 198.

Shawn

Shoot, but anyway, that that was was um that's been probably the the toughest things I've been going through with that. I mean, that's been crazy. But you had, wait a minute, you didn't talk about you told me about that

Truck Chaos And Uranus Fudge

Shawn

fudge.

G

The fudge. So going over to uh driving over to Indy, you know, we're always driving over to Indy. Uh I go, I cross, we don't normally go like from Cleveland down to Columbus and over to Indy because that drive sucks. I can't even tell you how bad it is. I mean, suck is an understatement. It's like truck city on all those, because it's Maine, you know, uh 70 going across and 71 coming up. Suck. It's it's I'm telling you, it's terrible. But truck and and these truckers nowadays, dude. Have you been on the road like yeah, yeah, like they're swerving all over the place? I'm like, who there's no blind spot, they just come over, dude. It it's it's the freakiest thing. Carol started screaming because we saw a truck like literally merging into a car. No, that's why I said, No, no, it's not even a blind spot. And I'm like, slow down, slow down. Yeah, yeah, it was crazy. Anyhow, uh, we went this way, and when we got across the border to uh Indiana, and Carol's always touting, like, Indiana's this is God's country, and it's so it's so religious, and you know, and everybody's so kind, and and they are they're they're nice people, but as soon as I cross the border, I see this big old sign and it says visit Uranus fudge factory. And I'm like, You know, you what find all this crazy ass places. I'm like, I'm like, wait a minute, timeout. Uranus fudge. Who decided that uh the to crawl a fudge factory uranus and think that okay, yes, it's funny, but it's definitely not appetizing. Like, are you selling more fudge? Because I think it's coming out of uranus. Think of all the play-on words on that.

Shawn

The shirts. What kind of what kind of fudge is that? Uranus.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

Where'd you get it from?

G

Oh, I got it fresh from a uranus. Yeah, yeah. Eat at Uranus. Smooth and sweet. You're a marketing whiz. It's just coming to you. Talking about shirts and more shirts and more shirts. It's just coming to you.

Shawn

It's flying in your head.

G

Stop at uranus. Anyways. I love that though. I'm surprised you didn't have a uranus shirt. No, dude. We didn't even, I didn't even stock. Like I saw it off the, you can actually see it off the highway there. And um, I was like, maybe someday I'm gonna buy you a shirt so you can have it on the show. So I mean Uranus show.

Shawn

Sean bought me a piece of he brought me a piece of uranus fudge.

G

Fresh from the factory. That's so bad.

Shawn

That is so bad.

Piercing Stares And Passenger Attitude

Shawn

Have you ever flown? Have you ever flown with somebody that the flight attendant, they got one of those piercing looks.

G

Piercing looks.

Shawn

Yeah, like they have a small bead of your eyes, you know. But when they look through you, I mean they look at you and and like it's like they're looking through your soul and it's coming out your backside. There's this girl, I love this girl too. She she's so funny. But when she looks at you, I mean, literally, she's looking through your eyes, and you can feel it in the pit of your stomach.

G

Right.

Shawn

I walk up to her and she goes, and we're in the aisle on the airplane. I'm picking up trash. She turns around and she goes, Gary? That woman just called me a bitch. And I said, She did, and she goes, Yes. And I said, Well, it's a good thing it wasn't a witch because you take that stir stick and do a Harry Potter on her. And she goes, You're right, you're right. That's what I would do. But she turns around, she looks at this woman, and from that point on, that woman was as nice as pie. Because I'm telling you, yeah, Pierce.

G

The stare she gave her was like, Yeah. I'd probably give him the stare too. I mean, come on. She got it. I that brings me back to like a story that's happened years ago. I mean, I'm talking about this is like way, way pre-9-11. 737, 100 days. Remember how when we had the seats and this first row of the seats were right at our jump seat and we would have to sit interlocked with the pastors? Yep, knee to knee. Remember? Yeah? Knee to knee. So we were so close and we'd be like always complaining, you know. And the planes back then were not, they weren't full. Yeah. So this Joker came on, and he decides he's gonna sit right in that row in the first row. And I told him, I'm like, sorry, you gotta get up. You're gonna have to move. You can be any row other than this row, go. So, um, anyhow, I'm closing the door. This dude stands up and he's like, You are an asshole. He was right. He was right. I'd have been right. Yeah, he is. The rest of the rest of the cabin, finally, somebody needs you! You know what my reaction was? My reaction was, you are off the aircraft. Boom, pop that door open this way. He looked at me and he's like, What? Yeah, that's true. I'm like, get your stuff and get off the aircraft. Yeah, no, no, no. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It we it it it snowballed from there to it's a crazy story, but anyways, yeah. I don't know. That's true, blue you. Yeah, I ain't playing with I ain't playing that game.

Shawn

Yeah, but I did, I did like I if I was on that plane, I'd be like, You are so right. You are so right. Dang, I've been telling him, yeah, he is a big I thought the same thing when I met him.

G

No, let's go around the globe.

NOTAMs And Fighter Jet Wake-Up Calls

G

Dude, did you see all those um freaking uh planes that like went through the World Cup like airspace?

Shawn

No, no, no, you were you were talking about that.

G

Yeah, I mean the the FAA they had to actually scramble F-16 fighters to like go and get these planes out of this airspace because you know when you have these big events like that, and what the president was there that day in that game and all that stuff. The whole thing with the the airspace is clear. People don't realize that aircraft and uh pilots get these things called notems, and they're called they they used to be called notice to airmen, but but of course they had to go like PC on it, and so now it's notice to air mission, but they're still notems, and it just tells you where you can fly, where you can't fly. And these people weren't, and so these commercial planes and private planes were flying into this airspace, and two of them they had to actually, the F-16s had to set off freaking flares in front of them to get their attention.

Shawn

Yeah, what was that? Fireworks, yeah. You're like, whoa, that was pretty. Wonder what's next. Uh a missile. I can see that pilot like just sitting there and he's looking at it and stuff.

G

He's stepping on his cause, all of a sudden, he's like, what the fuck?

Shawn

That's right. That's the Air Force guy. That's the Air Force guy. That's a warning shot, Cap.

G

Yeah, yeah. Those I I would be uh very nervous if I saw any type of military jets fly up inside of a commercial.

Shawn

Especially if they if they shot a flare at you.

G

Especially because they get so close you can see them in the cockpit. So they're close. Yeah, like Top Gun. Yeah, and they're like, get going, bud. Yeah, get out of here. Follow me. That is pretty funny. But yeah, man, that was that stuff was going on. Exit stage right. Yeah,

Mouse Panic Viral Clips Merch Quote

G

yeah. Anyways, you also dude, you uh shared with me that video of that uh that TSA dude stomping on that damn rat.

Shawn

It was it was a mouse. I love uh it was a mouse.

G

It was a mouse.

Shawn

It was a damn rat. You guys have to look at it. It looks like a damn rat. Pete is gonna be after him.

G

Yeah, Pete is gonna write it. Yeah, this reminded me stomped on him. Yeah, so this reminded me, we waited, we were let gone, whatever, whatever, and we came back this last weekend, and we I'm down, I'm downstairs, you know, doing my business, and all of a sudden I hear Carol screaming. She's like, Shun, Sean, Sean! And and I'm I'm I'm I'm taking shit. There's a straight knee to know. And all I'm hearing, all of a sudden I get the the pound on the door, boom, boom, boom, boom. She's like, and she's like freaking out, like almost crying. And I'm, you know, get up. You're busy, you know, right? What is going on?

SPEAKER_02

She's like, there's a mouse in my closet. There's a mouse in my closet.

G

I'm like, really? Really? Dude, I just went freaking. I was like, I went up there. She had put a sucker on like the second shelf in her closet. And like, you know how like it like pieces of parts all shredded and stuff. There's a couple of mouse remnants left around it. Like the sucker wasn't good. This shit exactly. I wanted the cherry. Right. Dang, you get me droplining and caramel. Anyhow, so she was flipped. She's like, I'm going to the hotel. I'm moving out of the house. We can't live here. Like all this crazy. I'm like, no, no. I go down, I go down to the drugstore, boom, buy some traps and everything. I come back, I baited them up, you know, peanut butter, cheese. You know, I'm like, I don't know what flavor of the month this guy wants. Obviously, he didn't want chocolate and caramel. He pooped that in. So I set these traps in and we get into bed, and like I'm talking 15 minutes. Snap. I'm like, there he is. Gotta go get him. Yep. Boom. We just leave him up there now. No, I went out, I got out of bed and picked up. Because you know, she wouldn't she wouldn't even be able to sleep.

Shawn

She's like under the covers. There's a dead mouse up there. You got fanway coming in. I think they're in the bed. I feel them crawling.

unknown

All that shit.

Shawn

Oh my god. All right, dude. The the the funniest one, the funniest one before we get out of here was the one I sent you about what the hell were you thinking? What the hell you were thinking? They had they had the the the bull without horns, and they had those four women on a seesaw.

G

Dude.

Shawn

That was the wildest. The funniest video.

G

And and I I'm gonna I gotta post this up. But I'm watching this video, and as you can see, that little baby bull, no horn, but it's just a baby bull. Yeah, no baby. And he's trying to hit him, hit her, hit her, hit her. And when he finally hits him and he knocks him off, when he rams that girl right in her ass, and she slams her face in the dirt. I was like, But he got all of them. He got all of them. Every one of them.

Shawn

He got every single one of them.

G

Who volunteers for that?

Shawn

Who did that? You thought that that was a good idea? He's over there going like this, oh shit, we're gonna get sued. You said because they had no horns, it'd be safe. Every single one of them the shit out of them. Rammed her right in her ass.

G

I mean, it's like I'm like, she's like boom, plows right in her head into oh man. She was out too.

Shawn

Like she was it was it gives it, it gives a new meaning to plyo drain.

All right, what's the inspirational quote? No, I was still laughing about that. All right, he says the inspirational quote be strong because things will always get better. It may be stormy now, but it never rains forever. And that's so true. Absolutely, absolutely, man. It it always clears up.

G

You know, the here's the thing like, man, you know, I you know, recently I had some bad things happen in my life and stuff, you know. My mom, your number one fan, passed away. Yep. We didn't talk about this on the show. I didn't I wasn't ready for all that stuff, but um, yeah, sad, and then the every time you think that is you're you know bad for you, yeah, all you have to do is look in another direction and find out it's not as bad as you got it. No, because my stepfather, he loses his wife, my mom, and the two weeks later he loses his own mom.

Shawn

Yeah.

G

I mean, wow, you know, that this quote is just goes directly to that.
