One TikTok-style airport stunt goes wrong and it’s the perfect reminder that airports are not a game. We kick things off with a wild story from the terminal: a kid tries to prove he can exit the airport and get back to the gate before boarding, only to get stopped cold by the one rule nobody can “hack” without paying the price. If you’ve ever been tempted to cut it close, this will make you rethink your timing fast.

From there, we get into what spring break travel really looks like right now: long TSA lines at some airports, surprisingly smooth checkpoints at others, and how quickly stress turns into public meltdowns when people think they’ll miss a flight. We also talk about ICE officers showing up in airports, why social media instantly spins it into outrage, and what extra patrols can mean for security in crowded terminals. We don’t ignore the human side either, including how much TSA teams deal with while morale takes hits from pay and staffing issues.

Then we lighten it up with travel-life reality: weird weather, home repairs, spring break cities trying to price out bad behavior, and the Disney and Orlando flights where families board hyped and return completely maxed out. One of the biggest moments is a passenger who recognizes Sean from a flight more than ten years ago and thanks him for a simple kindness when she was overwhelmed with a crying infant. We wrap with quick headlines, runway and safety talk, and a reminder that a small act can follow someone for years.

TikTok Airport Challenge Goes Sideways

Shawn

Social media sells a fantasy that you can outsmart the airport. With the spring break crowds, the long security lines, and people recording every meltdown, now is not the time to treat air travel like a TikTok challenge. So I gotta tell you, last week it was like I I couldn't believe this. I it was like watching this complete meltdown. Yeah, at the airport. Yeah, it was at the airport. So you know the TikTok challenge that we had talked about before?

G

Yeah.

Shawn

These kids, how they go through the airport. What was that? That was that 15 minutes.

G

Yeah, like there were 15 minutes before we check in. I can I can get through security and get to the gate. They ain't doing it right now.

Shawn

No, let's talk. Well, let's talk about that first of all. That 15 minutes, what they used to do was they would show up at the airport and they have to make it right, make it through security in 15 minutes to their plane without missing. Without missing a flight. And how many, how do you think were successful?

G

Few. Very few. Very few. Right? If they were lucky, if the gate was like like close or something like that, but now not as some of our concourses.

Shawn

Is that as the stupidest thing? The stupidest, dude. So is that was that done like by teenage kids, but was it done by just I mean adults? You've never seen an adult do it, right? Stupid kids. Yeah. Dumb. So coming off the coming off the plane. Yeah, this was good. Right. So I'm standing, I'm standing in the boarding area. We just came off the aircraft. And uh this kid's out there, and this dad's talking to him, and he and he and this kid's talking, making this video. You know, he's got you know how they hold everything. Yeah, so he's making this vlogging. It's called Vlogging? Vlogging, is that what it is? Vlogging. Yeah. Go ahead. So you're educating me. Yeah. So anyway, he's he's taking a video vlogging. And he's talking to this. He goes, Dad, don't worry about it. He goes, I'm just gonna show everybody that you can get through the whole airport and and come back before the flight leaves. He goes, it's like a reverse video of you know coming into the airplane and not missing your flight. And his dad goes, damn it, we're getting ready to board. He goes, Don't do it. He goes, he goes, it's fine, it's fine. So he's walking through and he's holding this camera up. Now, guess who's behind? You. Me, right? So I'm walking out, I'm going to the layover. Right. And I'm watching this, and I'm probably in this kid's video. Because he's walking out and he's talking, he goes, I'm just proving a point that you know you can walk through the airport, and we're like ducking and diving between the city. And you're watching this. And I'm watching this kid play this. I'm like, this is stupid. Your flight's gonna be boring there in a second. So anyway, we're walking out, and as he keeps going, I'm I'm walking him like, there's no way in hell that he's gonna walk all the way out the end of this terminal, right? And then turn around and go back just to get this stupid video. Right. So he's still doing it, and we're walking out, and he walks right through. You know the exit double doors, right? You know how they open up and they let you out. Yeah. So he walks right out and he's telling these people, he said, Hey, look, I'm I'm exiting the airport right now, and he goes, I'm he goes, I'm gonna prove my point, I'm gonna turn back around and I'm going back to the gate. So he just gets past the doors, and guess what happens? The door's shut. And we're standing out there, and and and he turns around and he goes, Uh uh I'm going back in. The the security guy, you know, TSA guy, he's a known crew member. He's sitting there and he's like, Oh no, you won't. No, you're not. He goes, You just broke the barrier. And he goes, What? He goes, I got a flight. And he goes, You gotta go through security. He goes, I don't even have he didn't even have his boarding pass with him. He goes, I don't have a boarding pass. Yeah, he didn't have his boarding pass. So he's I'm looking at this going, I'm yeah, this kid's not making the fight. And this dad, okay. We're not even to the dad part, right? But think about this kid. He's standing out there and and the guy goes, Well, where's your boarding pass? He goes, My dad's got it. He goes, Where's your dad? And he goes, at the gate. He said, Well, you better get on the phone. Now, that's perfect, man. I did not stick around for that phone call. Right.

G

Could you imagine that phone call? Dude, can you imagine if it's like the the parent? So the parents getting this phone call and the stupid ass and you just told him. Yeah. Like, I would have left his ass. But he's I would have been like, I'm gonna figure it out. Figure it out. I guess you're not going on vacation.

Shawn

No way in the hell. Hope he gets home. There's the security lines now are so damn long. Oh, dude. Who's gonna let you cut? Nobody. Nobody. I'm sorry. I'm a stupid blogger and I went too far. He would have been this kid, you know, this kid would have been out there crapping his pants, waiting for that dad.

G

You know those, you know, like when we get like uh like we blow a slide at work or something like that, and then we have to make those stupid videos, like, you know, this could happen to you. Yeah, this has happened to me. He needs to do a TikTok video on this to say, this could happen to you.

Shawn

The kid would have a he would have a swollen lip and the black guy going, uh, what do you do? Don't do this. Yeah, my parents beat my ass. I was I was laughing so hard. I was walking out going think the whole time thinking, you're not gonna walk out, right? You're not gonna walk out. No, and then he walked out, dude. Stupidness, you guys. Whatever you do, I mean, I know that you're following these TikTok things, I get it, but man, some things don't do it. Yeah, that's just dumb.

G

Yeah, especially right now, like in this environment right now. I mean, this is not the time to be like TikTok challenging videos, you know. You're not gonna some of the airports are crazy right now. They're freaking everybody's on edge four or five hours in line. Yeah, it it's it blows my mind. Like, and it's only specific to certain airports, like the big airports, you gotta expect that, you know. I was just talking to uh somebody the other day, and I'm like, uh, I went in work yesterday, right? I get to Cleveland, and you know, there's people showing up four hours early to the flight, right? No lines. I'm talking like I've never seen the line shorter, right? Like as if they just opened TSA, that's what it looked like. It was amazing. I was like, I can't believe this. But people were like, they were just like cool with their like better safe than sorry. I'm hitting the bar.

ICE Patrols And TSA Line Reality

Shawn

If you this morning, because I was I was flying today. Yeah, so this morning when I got in there early, yeah, everybody's in a terminal. Wow. Everybody's in the terminal, and you're right, the security line was so short. But you know, I was gonna ask you about this too. Yeah, so you know that ice has been deployed to the airports. Have you seen any of them?

G

Uh I haven't seen any of them, but I I actually uh I texted my brother the other day because you know he's ice, and uh, I'm like, You're gonna be in the airport? What airport are you gonna be in? I want to like let's connect because I want to I wanted to do a picture with them, you know, in the airport. That'd be cool.

Shawn

And so uh, but I have not seen them, but so I just seen three of them walk in uh down the concourse. I'm just trying to figure out the job. Okay, what what is it exactly that they're doing in the airport? Because you have the police for security, okay? Yeah, and then TSA is trained for you know going through scanning the bags and stuff. Well, like what are they doing and things? Well, yeah. I mean, I is it is it because is it because tensions are high?

G

Well, what know this? We don't pay attention to this, but if you think about it, you've seen this many a times. TSA does random strolling of the concourse. Yes, security. So they do security of the concourse, and they you'll see them walking around the concourse. Sometimes they do like random checks at gates and stuff like that, too. So that's I think the duties that the ICE has taken over, like these simple, normal, like any military, any type of police guard duty jobs, you know, like you don't need special training for this. If you're a police officer of any tort, any side, you know, type, you can you can do that job, you know, like a basic in the military can do that job. Yeah, you know, like that's not a trained position. Yeah, you see something, you say something, you stop, you know, blah, blah, blah, all that stuff. So I think that's what they're doing. So they're just handling that workload that the TSA was unable to do because people are calling off, right? Yeah. And so they have people that still they still have to do that. So that's what was taken away from all the scanners and all that.

Shawn

So so basically, I mean, they're doing security of yeah, they're just doing security, basic security. Because I mean, when I seen them, I seen three of the officers walking together.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

And um, you know, but I was trying to figure out exactly okay, what their role is on the airports. Yeah, I mean, is it more of a secure? It must be more of a security.

G

What would what is just aggravating to me and I want to get into politics of all the shit, but oh no, it's like when yesterday, everywhere on social media, it was all you can see is like, I spotted in this airport, I spotted in this, like spotted. Right. I was like, who gives a flying fuck? Yeah, exactly. Thank God they're there. Somebody's protecting the airports, security. It's yeah. I mean, how many how many incidents have we talked about in the you know over the last year here? People driving into the airports, people freaking, you know, going crazy outside, you know, those are the soft targets of the airports, right? That we you're not even through the security part, right? You know, so having those, you know, police, uh patrols and stuff like that, and ice around, they can do that job all day long.

Shawn

Yeah, because sometimes, I mean, in the airports, uh uh, you know, man, it gets kind of crazy. Right. I mean, especially when people and tempers start flying, especially you've got you get a security breach. The next thing you know, you got T you got TSA is backed up for and you've seen videos of these. Yeah, I mean, they they backed up all the way through the airport, out the airport, down through the baggage train. And imagine what it's like when people are missing their flights.

G

Dude, I just like the frustration levels of this whole thing is like I can't imagine how many. It's gonna be interesting, the statistics of it, you know, see how many people actually miss their flights from this because what the media is actually doing well is prepping the public. So I mean, I don't care what media you the one thing that they're covering is you gotta get to the airport, you know, early. There's these backups, so people are doing it actually, right? You know, so you're not hearing about people like, eh, this is a bunch of bullshit. I'm just gonna show up an hour before, you know, like they're actually doing it. Right. So that's one thing that's good that's happening out of it so people are informed. You but I think what they need at all airports, and this is like a driving event of this. Like, we should have just like we have traffic cams, you should have security cams at the airport where you can tap into the airports and be like, what's security look like at my airport?

Shawn

Oh, yeah, that'd be good. You know, like certain airports, a lot of them, they got so many cameras in every airport. Right, they have a camera, yeah.

G

You can have one designate one, one public access where it's in the terminal outway outside, so you can see the lines in the terminals outside of security, not actually filming security, and you could see what the lines are like, so you can be like, oh, you know what? It's bad. I need to be at the airport, yeah.

Shawn

You know, over there. And I and but you know, I agree with you too. I don't like the the way they portrayed it as like a negative already. I mean, I I understand they might not like it, and you might not like it, and people might not like it, and I I get that, but you know, there there's still men and women doing a job, yeah, and you don't need to you don't need to be able to ice. Yes, you don't need to cast a negative light on these on these people just doing a job.

G

Yeah, because I mean it's just security. Like I've already posted, like, listen, there's we need to, there has to be some type of focus now after this has happened. I mean, how many times? They were talking about like 43% of the time people have had this job in the last four years, uh in they haven't got their paychecks.

Shawn

Right. That's crazy. I you know how okay, I feel horrible every day when I go in. Right. Because I know these guys. You know, you know, you know how much I fly. I'm uh there every freaking day and know them personally, and you you sit there and say, you know, how's it going? They're like, it's all right, it's all right, you know, and every day it's a little bit less and a little bit less. Could you imagine knocking a paycheck? You could you imagine morale and our no, but could you imagine us as much as I work, right? Sitting there saying, okay, you work as much as you're doing this, but you're not gonna get paid.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

That that would just be a good thing.

G

I'm gonna tell you right now, so many airlines would be grounded. Oh, talking about cancellation, flight attendants would be pilot, pilots, flight attendants, whoever is not getting paid, they're not showing up.

Shawn

Yeah, tell the pilots they ain't getting paid.

G

Yeah, exactly. Right?

Shawn

Tell the pilots they ain't getting paid.

G

Dude, it it's it's the bus ain't moving without the bus drivers. Listen, they have got to like do something about this, where like I hate this leveraging people's lives over politics. Right.

Shawn

I I totally agree, is it's just a bunch of crap. You can't feel it. And you feel for these guys because we see them every single day. Right. So, you know, I mean, we do think about you guys, just realize that we with all the people that work for the TSA. Trust me when I'm telling you, all your airline family, we all think of you guys. We appreciate the job that you guys do.

G

Yeah, absolutely. 100% appreciate everything these people are doing. They're they're our front line of security. Yeah, right? They're they're not there because we don't need them. No, we need them. No, absolutely. We need you. You guys are valuable. There's too many freaking. Everything, the operation of this pleasure, this uh privilege that we have of flying.

Shawn

Yeah, we need them. Well, you see the videos out there all the time. We just talked about with the social media, everybody's taking videos, right? And it just everything escalates. Right. So you have all these people and you have these meltdowns, and you guys see the videos. And these are sometimes these are the people that are getting on airplanes, right? And and it's not stable. It's not, it's not a I mean, you you go through this whole craziness out before security, and then all of a sudden you're you're on the plane, and then it's a whole new level of crazy.

G

When I s when I think about the whole thing, my big thing is about security. And like now, my like I know on the plane. Are you like getting on the plane now, like actually like surveying a little bit harder now? Just because I feel like it's not that they're not doing the job, it's just I think there's a weak link now. Yeah, you know, like it's like I want to be on my heighten and my job and my position and my level, the security layer. Should I, you know, I need to be vigilant as well.

Shawn

I'm looking more for the the aggressive, right?

G

I mean, not so much as like the out of control, agitated person.

Shawn

Yeah, the person that like they they took them to the next level, right? So, and the only way that you can do do that is you're observant one, and then you communicate.

G

Right.

Shawn

You have to communicate because you gotta find out where the level's at.

G

Right.

Shawn

And that's one of the most important things that we do is identify that before it ever gets to a different level. Assess their level. Yeah. Now, brother, we got to talk about your shirt, man. I am loving that damn shirt. Yeah, man. Right there, brother. Boom! And I tell you what, I it's Go try! Absolutely 100% try, because you know, me and you freaking I hate that we changed the name. Oh, dude, sucks.

G

Sucks. First of all, come on. Ruin my favorite movie, Sean. I know, right? I didn't ruin the movie. The movie's still good. Major League. I know. Major League is awesome, but yeah, you know what? I it they will be forever Indians in my oh, absolutely, man. Ever. I every time I go to a game, I got an Indians shirt on. Do you even have a Guardians? I don't have I don't ever have a Guardians. No, no. I'll always have Indians. I don't care if this thing has like holes in it. It's like old Tribe. The tribe.

Shawn

Yeah, let's go back.

G

Yeah. Anyways, man, is baseball getting ready to happen. Yeah, it's going crazy now. Even though this is March Madness right now, yeah, right? Uh, but baseball getting ready to spark up and all that stuff.

Wild Weather And The Home Fixes

Shawn

Yeah, I love seeing. I mean, I absolutely love seeing some of these young players coming in too. Heck yeah, man. It was a lot, lots of fun. I could sit there and talk. We could sit there and talk baseball for hours all day. You don't even get me started on that shit, right? That's a whole different we're not going there.

G

No. Different show, different podcasts. Yeah, so what the hell's been going on with you?

Shawn

I know. You go baseball and be like, hell here for like two hours.

G

Yeah. Uh, dude, everything, man. It life has been just crazy lately. First of all, the freaking weather has been like affecting me big time. Has the weather been affecting you? Allergies. Allergies? Yeah, right now. Yeah. Yeah. Like everything, everything about like uh like this transition period of time right now is just crazy. We've been like going on these like little the, you know, we did a vacation down to Florida. Then we just did Carol had a golf tournament, so we went down there. But every time we go down and we're thinking, you know, we're going down to Fun Sun and all that stuff. Cold as shit. Yeah. I'm talking, no, like Florida was like 30 degrees cold. It was like crazy. I was like, what the heck?

Shawn

Look at all the crazy weather. I mean, uh look at Hawaii, right? Hawaii's got those floods going on. Yeah, the floods going on. Yeah, we just we just flew over. Um, we just flew over uh I think it's um Tennessee. Tennessee's got some wildfires going on in the in the mountains.

G

Dude, all over the United States has like this crazy weather going on. And like I'm just ready for it all to like just start like give me some steady something, you know? And one thing, one thing I need is sun. Yeah. Like we we don't need wind, do we? We don't need wind. We blew that shit right off our house. The wind's been tearing up our house.

Shawn

Both of us, both of us, man, we we got torn and shit off the house.

G

Yeah, my roof, we got ripped shingles on it. I can't even talk about that because you told me I can't talk about it no more.

Shawn

That's all we talked about, was how we had to repair the shit on our first of all is blood pressure level and both of ours are going too crazy. You know, when I was when I was younger, man, I'd be like a spider monkey on the roof. Right. I mean, I'd run up that damn thing, you know. Okay, it need a shingle, you need to put a roof cap on it. Now you Yeah, now now you're not so agile anymore. It's a slow creep, right? And then all of a sudden you're thinking, helicopter ride.

G

We're getting way too old for that. Exactly.

Shawn

If you one slip, it's a helicopter ride.

G

How's your how's your wife? When like every time you get up on a ladder, how's your wife react?

Shawn

I think she comes back out there about a half hour to see if I'm still alive and I'm laying on the ground.

G

Yeah. About a half an hour. Because my wife goes nuts. Like she's like, You should not be doing this.

SPEAKER_00

She'll start yelling at me, you're not doing this, don't do this. Like, get off that little bitty step.

unknown

Right?

G

That's what I'm saying. Call somebody to change that light bulb, dude. I'm just not there yet.

Shawn

Yeah. You should have seen me. Man, I was I was sitting there doing that, uh, the flashing. Flashing just ripped right off.

G

That shit was no fun. So crazy. But, anyways, uh, yeah, I'm just trying to get the house in shape, and it seems like everything's going crazy. The roof, I had my brand new deck. I look out today, half the lights are out.

SPEAKER_00

I'm like, what the hell is going on?

G

Like, there's like like every there's one thing after another, and then I'm like, I gotta get my yard in, and the people are digging in the yard. My roof caps are off, like like rain coming in, dude. I got leaks in my house.

Shawn

The one thing, that's the one thing a lot of people don't know. But when that roof cap comes off, there's a gap. You're just it's open. There's a gap.

G

Yeah, there's a gap in your shingles, and the rain's just coming in. It goes straight in. And I think it only rains right in that part right there. The rest of the room doesn't need to rain, just that part.

Shawn

I was saying you look in your bedroom, this big wet spot, right? Wet spots oozing. Yeah, yeah. It's big somebody peed in their pants. That one roof cap that you didn't want the somebody to come replace. And a big ass wet spot on top of your uh ceiling, dude.

G

It's it's just been like fucking crazy. It's non-stop. Just it's non-stop. And then, like, like you've been you've been traveling, and I've been flying too. And then like it's spring rate now, break right now. And I don't know, have you had a lot of spring breakers on your flight? Like, I don't know. I I guess not maybe I'm not on the routes or something like that. It doesn't seem like there's a lot of spring breakers going out there.

Shawn

I don't see a lot of college kids.

G

Yeah, it's like I see families. We in the in the past years and like of our traveling career, like during this season, you would see a lot of like college kids and groups and all that stuff, and all that stuff is toned down. And it's interesting, I saw this news segment talking about how like all these cities that are spring break cities, like Miami, they're charging a hundred dollars to park a car down there really on South Beach. Yeah, so it's shit that goes on. And then the hotel beach, the hotels are like escalated, like they doubled the price of all the hotels, like everything they're like trying to prevent college kids from coming in because they're the tear they tear up the place, you know.

Shawn

Okay, it's different though. When we when we were younger, yeah, you go down there, you had fun, but not like it was going on.

G

It was innocent, like we have videos that girl gone wild and all that stuff, you know, and like you know, that stuff, like it was like innocent fun, you know. We did stupid stuff, right? You know, today they go mobs, they got mob parties on the beach, guns, guns, nice, people like you mix that with alcohol, there's always a fight, somebody getting shot. Like, you know, it's just not like I don't even see the attraction to a college kid. You know, like it's it's always attractive for a college kid like to go crazy, you know, like to have fun and party and all that.

Shawn

But if you as a parent, I mean, you gonna send your kid down that shit? Right. I mean, it's bad enough. I mean, because you're thinking your kid goes to like a bar or something, right? When when we used to go to the bars, right. You get your fake ID or whatever, you know, in college and go in there. It's not the case. But look at the case.

G

The only kids going down there now gotta be rich kids. Yeah. Right? Because I mean these they are like bumping up the prices of these places, like trying to prevent this. But they're still freaking mobbed. Yeah.

Shawn

But on the planes, I'm not seeing it.

G

Yeah, I'm not seeing it either. Like that's so I'm wondering how they're traveling. Like, are they now driving versus flying? Because they're in the middle of the street.

Shawn

I'm not seeing all that.

G

Yeah, all that travel. Like that's what I'm saying. That's what I was trying to point out. Like you, you we used to see this on a plane a lot. Yeah. And with all this travel stuff going on with the TSA and the tr you know the flights and all that stuff. We're I'm not seeing that body of you know population of travelers right now. Yeah. Which is which is odd to me. You know, and I know it's odd to you as well. Like we we would normally see that party because we we knew like if we're going to a Florida destination, there's gonna be a group on a plane.

SPEAKER_00

Hey, Brent I went partying, we're gonna spring break.

G

Yeah.

SPEAKER_00

Give me give me alcohol.

Shawn

Stupid. You hate that. They come on and they just act like it's it's like a party. Yeah. Nobody else matters but like that 10 group. Right, right, right.

Spring Break Crowds And Disney Chaos

G

Yeah, I don't like that. Yeah, anyways, man, but they are that that's pretty much all that's going on with me, man, other than just like the normal life, travel back and forth. Yeah. What's been going on with you? But before we get going, look at your shirt. Sempre five, man. Look at your shirt. Look at that.

Shawn

He's bringing something to talk about. Yeah, yeah. Sempre five. No, you know, you know, both of us. We're it's all about military, right? We're all about we support the military. Dude, so right now is the time to support the military. Absolutely, man. 100%. So uh you well, you know, you know, Dalton, Air Force, so I got it. I had to I had to throw out because uh Danny is Marines. Yeah. So I had to throw the the Semperify. I got a whole family full of military veterans. Yeah. I think the only the only branch that we don't have in the family was Coast Guard. The only we don't yeah, we don't have that. Yeah. That you don't have that. Marines. You don't have the Marines. No, no jar heads. Yeah, yeah. Well, we got a jar head. So I had to had to represent the jar heads.

G

Yeah, he's got it. So yeah, no.

Shawn

Um, so that's us Indians and jar heads. That's what I do. No, no, I've been going back and forth to Orlando. I love Orlando. The kids, I mean, the the the parents and stuff. It's so funny because when they're going down, you know how they have all their Disney shirts and everything, and it's all, hey, we're getting ready to go. Oh, I know. I mean, the kids are fun. It's fun. Yeah, it's fun. But you know, you'll see the kids boarding and everybody like, where are you going? Where are you going? Going to Disney, and they're all excited to get on the planes. And then uh, you know, dad's back there and he's like multitasking with like 5,000 bags and stuff, dragging them on. But what's funny is when you come back, you know, it's like you don't listen, get back here and sit down, right? They've had about as much fun as they can take. They've been capped out, right? And that's it. Just come back and sit down. Yeah, the top. Sit down. You don't ever we're never coming back here again. But you gotta love the family. It's like the Griswolds, right? Yeah. I mean, you you're going to Wally World, and then after Wally World, get in the damn freaking car. Yeah.

G

But then the majority of them are like, they're all plastered. They have Disney everywhere. Disney hats, they got ears, they got shirts, they got yeah, they they got like lightsabers with them, they got the biggest. I've seen Winnie Bots.

Shawn

I've seen Winnie the Pooh the last few days. Yeah, Winnie the Pooh. I haven't seen him. Yeah. Had Piglet, had the little bitty piglet. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah, no, it was cool. I love the Disney, love the kids. They always come on. Uh, you know, it's precious. They they they they come on, they're so excited about going down there. And it's a great family. I mean, expensive. I mean, we talk about that. You have to mortgage your house to get there. No shit. It's crazy.

A Decade Later Kindness Returns

G

I mean, the parts and everything. Yeah, I feel for families. Like, I can't even imagine paying for like a just a family of four, you know, two kids and mom and dad. No. Just a part passes. Yeah, it's it's expensive.

Shawn

Yeah, there's no way. But then then this lady comes on. I was doing LA coming back from LA. Right. I'm getting everything ready in the galley in front. She comes on and starts crying. I'm like, what the f- What happened? What's she crying for? That's what I was like when she cried. She goes, You you were on my flight ten and a half years ago. And I'm like, oh shit. What I do. Oh my god. Yeah, yeah. What did I do to make you cry? What dare you was that? Exactly. What'd you show up in? Which one? Which one? So, but anyway, Oh, was that the Eric and S? That was oh shit. Damn. No. See, you were worried. No, you're gonna love this one, though. You're gonna love this one, you little smart ass. So um, no, she she had a daughter, yeah, and her daughter was was crying. She was an infant, and she was bawling. And uh and she was beside herself because she was so upset because she's worried about everybody. Right. And I I guess I went over there and I sat down. I'm like, don't don't freaking worry about none of these people. If she cries, she cries. Big deal. She's an infant. Yeah. If they were if they give you a hard time, I said, You tell you tell me, I'll come back here and do it. Right. And she was like, no, she goes, I'm so I said, Don't worry about it. She's an infant, man.

G

It's a stress, like this parents coming on, like that is like one of the number one stress of flying because people are like so they can't control their kid. Right, right? Like, especially at certain ages. Like, and she had that she has no infant. There's no way, you know. Nobody's gonna do what infant's gotta do. Yeah, and come on. Yeah, I mean, I don't know.

Shawn

But anyway, I'm sitting here talking to her, I guess, you know, for what she said. And then I I came back and I I brought her a couple glasses of wine. I said, now relax, baby's relaxing. Now, mom needs to relax. There you go. So you got the rest of the trip. So she gives her husband says she taught she tells this story all the time. She's been telling it for like 10 years. And here it is, 10 years later, I'm on the plane with her. She gives me a hug and she walks off. That's kind of some of the fun, cool things. I mean, I've had things happen like that before, yeah, but it's so cool that when they remember you, and and we've been doing this as long as we've been doing it, right? Well, I got a question for you. Oh, God. Go ahead, and I can't wait. Did you get a picture? No, dude, no, I didn't get a hug.

G

This is this is the time that you need to be able to give a picture. Like, I know you got a hug, but you want to give me a hug. So these are the times like like you need to like take a picture. Like because uh honestly, when you're sitting down at home one night and you're retired, and you're gonna be thinking back, and you'll be flipping through pictures and stuff and looking back at our career and shit, those are the pictures that be like, that's shit, man.

Shawn

But you don't think about that all you do, I don't think about that, dude.

G

I'm a photographer, so I think about moments, moments in time that matter. Like you should capture them and seize that moment. Like I was seizing the moment, I was just worried about what she was crying for. Okay, I'm gonna give you a hug, but I want a picture. Yeah, she would have been like all in it, all about it. Yeah, and especially was the daughter there? No, no, that would have been even more special.

Shawn

It was just the husband. Yeah, it would have been awesome if the daughter was there. Now, yeah, but you're gonna throw this back in my face. But we did take it take a picture. Remember last time? I told you I said that I had the lady on the plane, and I took a picture with her and her son when they were little, yeah. And then here it is years later.

G

Right, right, right.

Shawn

He's actually on there with his son.

G

Oh, that's awesome.

Shawn

So they have a picture of me, mom, big version of him.

G

They they took a picture, right? Yeah, they took a picture. That's awesome. So that was pretty good. See, but that that's those are the moments. Like, she should have captured that moment too. Like, she would have been like, Can we take a picture? Yeah. I mean, a hug is a hug, but uh, they had a picture. Now she had a picture to go with the story. Yeah, I didn't really think about it. Yeah. I I know I know you don't think about those type of things, but but those are those are special times and our moments in our in our career that it's like so awesome to be like to capture that the the human interaction that we get to like experience every day, which is the the one of the best part of our jobs, right? This is why we like to do it. We like to interact with people.

Shawn

We're people working. I mean, being in the base as long as I've been here, right? Right. Um, I've seen people for years. Oh, yeah. Right? I mean, I mean, how you look at some of the pilots, we've grown up with them. Yeah, they from the starting in the right seat, going to the left seat, and actually they're retired, or me and you are still here. Right now we're flying with some of their kids. That's true, right? Now, this kid, did I ever tell you on this one? This kid gets into the cockpit, he sits down, and um, and I'm like, I walked in there, I'm like, damn, Carlo. And he goes, Mr. Miller. And he goes, Gary, you know him? I said, That little shit used to come over to my house when he was little. I used to make him take his damn shoes off.

G

Yeah.

Shawn

And here it was, he was friends with my stepdaughters, you know. I mean, they were really good friends. He grew up, went through the military, got his training, and now is is a first officer with with the airline flying. Yeah, it's awesome.

G

I mean, that's crazy. Those are all the human experiences that we get to like interact with, like this. And now we're seeing like we have like our airline family. Because I had a I had a family that you were talking about Orlando. Literally, like, I had a family that was with Cancun, like year to year, I think it was like like five, six years in a row, I was their flight attendant. Right. They were like, literally, they were like, You're our personal flight attendant. Like every time we get on a plane, you're on the plane with me. I know. And I'm thinking, I'm thinking, yeah, that's special, but I'm like, I'm working too damn much.

Shawn

Yeah. Because well, it makes you but it makes you feel good though, right? Because they didn't go, hey, you sucked. Right, right, no, no, no.

G

I was like, oh, what did I do?

Shawn

Yeah, you're my flight attendant, you're a big bucket of suck. Was I the arrogant asshole back then? You like saying that, don't you? You like saying that. You notice I called it to myself. I know you did.

SPEAKER_03

All right, I know you did.

Car Limp Mode And Dashboard Panic

Shawn

But anyway, all right, so let's let's move on. We're gonna do that. All right, so have you ever heard of limp mode? And no, it's not something that you you take care of with the blue pill. What'd you say? Limp mode? Mode. No, no, and like I said, there's only one limp mode I know of, and that's not probably what the car is. No. Shit. Well, I've been working on the car and it and I had a pressure, uh, high-pressure fuel pump problem with the car. I'm just gonna go over this a little bit for people that quit cars. Quickly.

G

Okay, quickly.

Shawn

Shut up. So the car, I'm driving the car, and all of a sudden all the lights go crazy on the dashboard. Okay, the car won't go over 25 miles an hour. Oh, wow. So these new cars have this mode that if something happens, it sends this car into what's called limp mode. That's good, man. No bullshit. No, that's good. No, uh, for certain things, yes. But but here, here, I'm like two miles away from the house, thank God. And you gotta crawl back home. 25. 25. I got the flashers on and going, what the because dude, the ABS, no, the ABS test was going on and on. It's going crazy.

G

And I didn't know what was going on. Like, I'm like, I see cars, I don't know. I guess they're in the limp mode, like going down the highway. I didn't realize that was a thing, you know.

Shawn

It is it's it's horrible, Sean. Yeah, I mean it you can't do anything. So then when you fix the problem, you get it's fixed. Right. They gotta program it out. Yeah. Yep. It's not gonna leave. Yeah. Yeah. So but no. You can't do that yourself. I yes, you can. Oh, you can? Yeah, you can. Oh, okay. So I bought I bought the computer and hooked it up, and then eventually I cleared it out.

SPEAKER_03

Yeah, I cleared it out.

Shawn

But will I ever buy a car that goes into limp mode?

G

Dude, I didn't even know they were on there, but that I mean that's really good. Like, how many times have you like I know so many flight attendants like that have drove their car past or whatever, and they're like, my engine seized off.

Shawn

Well, that's just stupid.

G

Okay, come on. Yeah, but that's an overheating. Time out, time out. Stupid, stupid, overheating. It's just no it's good. If the cars have that limbow where they can like kick that into where it gets to like the oil fluid goes so low where it's gonna like seize up the engine, that'd be a good thing. Oh, yeah.

Shawn

You're in the middle of West Virginia in the mountains. Dude, where are we? Where are we at? It's better than it's better than seizing up. It only takes you like 16 hours to actually find a gas station. Yeah, you'd be like Barney Rebel going down the street. Bullshit. I'm never, I am never going. I am never ever buying a car that goes into limp mode. Here's the thing the only thing that's gonna go into limp mode would be taken care of by boys.

G

Unless you're buying antique cars, there's no way you're gonna like all these new technology cars, all this stuff is coming.

Redmond Oregon And True Grit

Shawn

Like it's it's that's why I'm keeping that old Elantra. Yeah, because I can work on it. Yeah, I'm not, I mean, I'm telling you, I'm not doing it because it drove me crazy. Like a freaking Christmas tree. But anyway, listen, I went to Redmond, Oregon this this week. Have you been there? No, never. Oh my god. So this place is incredible. So it's like an elevated desert. Okay, so you have the desert, yeah, and then you have in the background you had the mountains just freaking covered with snow. Oregon is beautiful, man. It is freaking gorgeous. It's beautiful. We've said it so many times, you guys. If you know, I know that people travel all over the world, but we have so many cool things, and Oregon is one of them. I mean, and and it was right out the back. Are you gonna are you gonna post that? Check out this video. Yeah. You gotta you you gotta check this video out. Right out the back. So anyway, I I was uh watching this river flow is so cool because you can hear that water just rushing and everything. It's such a it's such a cool feeling.

G

Yeah, it's beautiful, right?

Shawn

So you uh I I wanted to learn a little bit more about it. You know what, you know what movie was filmed?

G

What's that?

Shawn

In Oregon? No. True Grit. True Grit was, oh, that's cool. There in that in Redmond Red.

G

Redmond, yeah. So John Wayne, True Grit, Catherine Hepburn. This is a movie that you're gonna have to go look up because kids nowadays are like, who, what? True what? You gotta go look up True Peppers. Our generation would be like, oh, yeah.

Shawn

Yeah, be like, oh yeah, Ned Peppers, right? Remember that? Do you remember that scene when he's fighting Ned Peppers? Dude, I don't remember the scene. No, he was fighting Ned Peppers. He put the reins in his mouth. Oh, wow. And he said, Feel your hands, you son of a bitch. You don't remember that?

G

Those good old Westerns.

Shawn

The Western John Wayne, man. He it was it was so cool. But anyway, they're known for like rock climbing. They got all this outdoor shit that they do. Yeah, and then they had this really cool one. You're gonna have to post this one too. It was a uh a stone face, and it was like a monkey. Monkey. Monkey.

G

Dude, there's a monkey rock in Tahoe. Really? Yeah, I'll put I'll post it. It is compos both of them. I'll put both of them next to them because I think my monkey in Tahoe looks more like a monkey than your monkey.

Shawn

My monkey is now it's a comparison.

G

My monkey's more than your monkey, right? Because there's a it's on a hike, right? You went on a hike for the to see that rock, or did you just pull it out? No, no, no.

Shawn

I started looking at it because I was I was looking at the different areas, and I love when we were driving, I was like, my God, this is beautiful. Yeah, and it was so cool because you got that, you got that, you know, western desert flair, you know. And then in the background, you're seeing these freaking mountains just covered in snow. Right. And and you know, it's so cool because they're so far away. Right. But you know, they look so close. Yeah. So you're getting that feel.

G

Oregon's beautiful. Yeah, it's amazing. I mean, it's it's a beautiful country out there. That that that video that you just saw, they that looked like literally my back door when I lived in California. I lived in Redwood Forest, and we had a we had a like a it was a creek, but at times it could become a river that came right in our back door. Looked almost as identical. I was like, that's it. I love the hotel too. Hearing that noise of the water like that. Oh, it's cool.

Shawn

I had the I had the slider open, and it was kind of cool outside. Yeah, but there's nothing better to hear rushing water, trickling, yeah. I mean, it's so cool. And then the the hotel, I love these rustic hotels. Yeah, they're not modern, right? It's not the modern hotel. No, it it's literally they they have like, you know, the the the bed spread is like the Apache type looking thing, you know what I mean? Right. It even had a fireplace in it. Oh, that's cool. That was really cool. Yeah, we don't get rooms too many times with fireplaces. You don't get rooms too many times with the river runs with it. Exactly. So that shit was actually really cool. But uh yeah, go if you if you haven't never watched True Grit, go watch True Grit. True Grit.

G

You gotta find it. I don't even know who would have it. You gotta find it. TMC or like somebody that somebody.

LaGuardia Crash Talk And Seatbelts

Shawn

Somebody will have the damn.

G

Somebody has it.

Shawn

Are you kidding me? All right, man. Let's go around the globe.

G

Round the globe, man. Uh, so we gotta talk about Air Canada. Yeah, man, the LaGuardia, that was a mess. That is like I hate to like point fingers at all this stuff, but I mean, after it isn't amazing, like technology, video, all that stuff. Like they had all that stuff like instantaneously. Yeah. I mean, the black boxes recovered like, you know, hours later. They had recordings, they already knew all that stuff. I mean, it that to me is very fascinating. But um uh for one, we definitely want to say, you know, condolent condolence to the pilots that lost their lives there. And uh I could not believe about that flight accident. It's a miracle.

Shawn

I mean, and there there was, you know, when you when you're looking at that accident, I mean, that hits home with us. Right. That hits home with all airline people because of what we do. Right, because we go through it in our minds, like, what would I do? How would I react to that? You wouldn't even that's but see, you wouldn't even know because that would have been like a regular landing to us. Because we we're we're we're landing and you wouldn't even known it.

G

And here's the thing too, like you like you bring that up. Like, how often are we like, you know, as soon as we hit the runway, we're just like, you know, back to our conversation, talking, and you know, depending on what position you are, if you gotta talk on the PA or something like that. But really, we were we're once it's going smooth down a runway, we're like, we're cool, we're safe, we're home, right?

Shawn

Not that it then all of a sudden, boom. Yeah, reality. Wow, it was a reality check. I mean, when you looked at it, then that's exactly what I thought, too. Yeah, because when we do land like that, you think it's over. Right. Right? We're going home. It's over, and then then all of a sudden then that happens, yeah, and and and everything changes, right? I mean, you when when you're in an instant, it it it was so eye-opening, right? You know, for airlines.

G

Well, here's the other thing too is that even for the public, you know, like incursions and accidents and stuff happen when you least expect it. Yeah, right. I mean, we've seen over our career many a times accidents happening just on the taxiways, right? I mean, planes hitting each other, planes, you know, uh vehicles hitting planes, planes hitting vehicles, like all that type of stuff happens. And the uh the you know, the effect inside the plane, they don't really go over that too much. Right. Can you imagine what the impact on that plane, like how it felt to everybody in that plane? Yeah, like being jerked forward so like hard.

Shawn

Yeah, you wouldn't even know you uh it would have happened so fast you wouldn't even have known it.

G

And what I would be very interested to see in this accident too is how many people landed and they didn't have their freaking some seatbelt on. Like how far did they get thrown and stuff like that? Because I think it was like 14 people got injured in this. Right. But they don't tell you what type of injuries or anything like that. You know, you're just assuming they got injured, you know. But I mean, how many people might not have their seatbelt on? And like, even though we do compliance checks, people still take their seatbelts off. Right.

Shawn

We walk away, they take it off. But you have in in this, I mean, you don't want to get really deep into this because there's so many things. No, there's so many seats. Um, but in this tragedy with tragedy, there was a miracle. Oh, yeah, the flight attendant. The flight attendant. And this this girl was ejected in her jump seat, found on the runway, right?

G

To be landing and all of a sudden, impact, probably knocked out, yeah, thrown from the aircraft through the cabin wall, however, whatever opening that was, to be ejected and being laying on the freaking runway. And to be alive. And alive, yeah. That's amazing. It's amazing. That takes me back to um you remember um the Asian flight in San Francisco?

Shawn

Yeah.

G

That was the same thing. There was a flight that got ejected from that flight, but the trucks, the fire trucks, ran her over. Yeah. You know?

Stowaways Meteorites And Runway Coyotes

Shawn

So it's like it's that's why, and because of where she was laying, too. Where she was laying. Like they you who would have suspected that there's a gonna be a body laying on in in that aircraft, they're bolted right behind the cockpit. Right. And those guys both lost their lives and and she got ejected. And she got ejected from there. I mean, that was well, like I said, with tragedy, with tragedy, there was a miracle. Right. And it was a miracle that God bless her and she made it, and God bless the two that that lost their lives in it, too. So but it does hit home with us, and we just want to say, you know, our prayers go out to everybody, everybody, their families and everybody that was involved. I mean Honestly, that that hits home with every airline person when something like that happens. So all right, brother.

G

Well, so people um talking about uh some lighter subjects here. Um, there's this uh 40-year-old passenger that with uh KLM that kept trying to board their flights. Did you hear about this? No, like he was just trying to like sneak on the flights. I don't even know how this happened. I have I have no idea. There's no more normal information, but he kept having repeat attempts to try to board their flights like for free, right? So they banned him, banned him for 30 years. That's it.

Shawn

So he's like, so I'll just go on somebody else. Yeah, exactly. Exactly. I mean, it's like not like there's a there is another airline.

G

So it was actually KLM and Air Transylvania. Okay, and so both of them banned this guy. But I mean, to have this person, like what I don't even know, like what are you thinking? Like you are like you're trying to attempt to get on the planes, you watched the you watched the you watched TikTok guy, you watch some dumb movie.

Shawn

You've been watching TikTok. No, you've been watching some dumb damn dumb ass movie. But yeah, yeah, catch me if I can type of thing, right? Yeah, but he got caught.

G

You got caught over and over again, yeah. Yeah, I'm stupid. Exactly. But anything, were you home for the meteorite?

Shawn

Yeah, did you hear it? Yeah, I that's what I was. You heard it? Yeah, yeah. That's what I was saying. And you know, it's right down the road, right? From here.

G

It literally was over our heads here. Yeah. Where we're doing this podcast, it was happening right over our heads, and the fallout, like right down the street, basically. Riversticks, Riversticks Park.

Shawn

They I mean, they they had all these rock hunters, man, over in Riverstic.

G

Oh, they're there, it's all over Madonna County. Like, it's everywhere. People finding these meteorite pieces. I'm just gonna pick up a stone and go. I would love to find one. Like, I mean, but you've been seeing it all over Facebook, people finding these little teeny meteorite pieces and stuff. And you know they're still out there. I mean, this thing exploded into pieces and stuff. Yeah, but I was I was down in Florida freezing my ass off, and the the that happened, and my buddy's like, Oh, you had a meteorite over your house. And I was like, What? I definitely thought he was joking.

Shawn

It's better than in your house, right? Right? And be like, hey, Sean. Oh, your house is on fire. But the you the good thing is that you got a meteor stone. You got a souvenir of outer space. It went through the bedroom.

G

But yeah, dude, we're we became famous in Medina for the meteor. I know, and they're like all these people flocked to this area, like chasing, trying to find meteorites. And I guess that's a thing, too. Like, people actually knew that was gonna happen. Yeah, people all over the world when they hear these meteorites, they go to these different locations, chasing trying to find meteorites. Well, they chased UFOs.

Shawn

I mean, what the hell you trying to chase a rock coming through? But that damn thing was crazy though when it when it separated and it blew up. You've seen all these little like you know, flashes going all over the place. That was those little big pieces, one thing on your roof.

G

So, what did it sound like to you?

Shawn

Just like a boom.

G

It was like a boom.

Shawn

Yeah, it's like a big boom.

G

Because people have described it way differently. Like that it sounded weird. There was like it was a it was a boom, but it was kind of a weird boom. Like all these different things. I was talking, yeah, like I don't know, but it was like they were just talking about like, and I was like, this event happened, I wasn't home to hear this, and I would have loved to hear that. Like what it sound like, yeah, and then you know, thankfully, nobody got hurt. No, yeah, right. That's what I said. I mean, yeah. Like even with all these fallouts, meteorites all over the ground, everything, it was just like a shower of pebbles, yeah. And you would have thought, like, with that much, somebody would have claimed, like, oh, it broke my patio window. At least one big piece, right? Or it damaged something, like they had something that's I damaged something and it hit something. I haven't heard of it.

Shawn

Come through this come through the freaking woods and all of a sudden find that one.

G

Right. Can you imagine like if you had a pool and like there's some meteorites in your pool? It's a big ass.

Shawn

Well, hey, we got we got famous for what then? Right, we got the meteor. All right, man. And uh Chuck Norris passed. Oh, Chuck Norris. You know, that that had to be that had to be something he was planning because he was in Hawaii when he passed, and and I don't know exactly what the I love Chuck Norris, so you know, circumstances that are uh behind that and all that stuff.

G

But yeah, Turk knows he's uh he's axes Walker was one of his big things.

Shawn

I used to love Lone Wolf McQuaid. Yeah. Remember that one? I I mean David Carrading.

G

Chuck Norris was on my map from Inner the Dragon. Yeah, you know, Bruce Lee. Yeah, when he was the first one of those opponents of Bruce Lee and all that stuff, like that's how he started his career and all that stuff. And he, you know, he was a good guy. Oh, yeah. Love Chuck Norris. Super good guy.

Shawn

Okay, and then uh the jet blue flight. So the jet blue flight uh at uh JFK it struck a coyote during the man. Was it Wiley?

G

I don't know. But hey, the uh yeah, it it's crazy, like these incursions and stuff that happened on the uh freaking runway, like planes hit and stuff. This thing just like hit it, boom, nobody got injured except for a coyote.

Shawn

Yeah, you well, you you hear bird strikes.

G

Yeah, bird strikes all the time.

Shawn

You usually don't hear a coyote.

Pay It Forward And Final Thoughts

G

Yeah, I struck a coyote. Yeah. Actually, they should have they I ran over a coyote. I was gonna say, you know, actually, because it didn't go up anyway. It didn't like jump up, it just hit it. But it could, it could get sucked into the engine. Oh, that wouldn't be good. I know that wouldn't be good, but I mean it could possibly get sucked in the engine. Then it would have been like wow, eat coyote. Yeah, that yeah, it would have been yeah, minced meat coyote. All right, man.

Shawn

Let's go to the inspirational quote. All right, I I I had to pick this one out. Even a small act of kindness can make a profound difference in somebody's life. Yeah, man. That's it, that's the thing we do all the time. All you have to do reach out, be a little nice to people. It's amazing. Ten years later, they remember you.

G

Yeah. I just did one, I just did this uh this exactly what you're talking about last week. Yeah, you know, one of our flight attendants, or she's uh, you know, I wouldn't say she's struggling or whatever, but they're not rich, right? Right. And her son wants to go to be a pilot. And I was thinking about being a pilot, but and I went out and bought all the headsets and all that stuff. And I'm not ever gonna be a pilot, you know, because I mean I I'll go up and do some recreational flying, but I'm not gonna do it, like go get my license and all that stuff. I'm I'm way I'm past that, right? Drone pilot. Yeah, but what I did was her son needed a headset, she had put it on Facebook, huh? Yeah, so I was like, hey, I got a pair for you. She was looking at like a thousand dollars for some of these things, you know. And I I just said it's yours. And she was like flipping out. See, it goes back to you.

Shawn

It's like karma.

G

And I told her, I said, Listen, this is all I ask of you. Tell him that when he gets to the point where he's got money and he's gonna, there's gonna be that time where he's gonna be like, I'm in good standings right now.

Shawn

Pay it forward. Pay it forward. That's a big thing. I mean, you know, anytime, and like I said, we'll just end it with this pay it forward.

G

Pay it forward.

Shawn

All right, guys, we had a great time. Uh, can't wait to see you guys next week. I can't imagine what the hell we're gonna talk about. Who knows what we're gonna talk about? Maybe that hat because you got a damn frog with a fiddler on it. Frog with the fiddler. Who in the hell puts a fiddle on a frog? Fiddler's Creek. There you go. Alright, guys, you guys have a great day. See you.
