Scorers, scorers, welcome back to the Real Hooper Show. I'm your boy Sean Shook Amos, and we got a lot to talk about today. The Knicks is dog walking Cleveland Cavaliers. Spurs or OKC is a dog fight. I wish it would have been a dog fight with Mike Beasley and Lance Stevenson, but the skills said otherwise. LeBron said they've not outworked, they got out talented. We got to talk about that. Last week we talked about the Iceman, and I didn't really like it right away. But after a week, and just kind of listened to a couple more times, I got a different take for you. We're going to talk about that today on a real hooper show. I got my guy here. My guy E was good. Yo, it's good, bro. You know, another day in the office, man. So, did you see my guy Brian, bro? He said, You a Lakers fan. He said, Y'all wasn't outwork. It was just out talented. Do you agree with that? Yeah, of course, man. I support those comments by LeBron James, man. I I I definitely agree with it. You know, here's the thing. What people get mixed up is competitive spirit and foolish pride. They they it's a thin line between the two. You know you don't have a 33-point score. And you know you 41. You playing with a lot of randoms. Let's be clear. You playing with some randoms. Like, like, like, look, let's be clear, guys. Like, I like I'm no disrespect. They're doing something I could never do when that's playing the NBA. But when you look, actually look at the roster, bro. I'm gonna just say it out. I'm gonna say it out. Check it out. Tell me if it's not random. LeBron James, Luke Kennard. Okay, Marcus Smart. Okay. Rui Hanchimura. Okay. DeAndre Aiden. Okay. Where in there? Oh, Austin Reeves. Yeah, yeah. We get throw Austin Reeves in there. Where where in there it says championship? My guy Austin Reeves, bro. He says championship, even though he wasn't drafted. Yeah. Even though he says championship.

He's still a quality player for sure. But he even if we come off of injury, see, that's foolish pride. See, this is the problem, man. This is the problem I have with a lot of Lakers fans. They don't want to believe that the Lakers can't be good. Yo, come on, bro. They not. They wasn't good. Look, Stephen A. Smith said they got they was outworked and out-talented. Listen, Steven A. Smith got a vendetta for my boy. But I'm not going to lie to you. They wasn't, I think they worked the hardest they could, right? Over time is going to be a battle. If you play basketball, you understand this. Real Hoopers understand this. You can outwork, out hustle, and over time, over a course of 48 minutes, guys just start hitting shots. Because here's the thing you can't play the same five, the same six the entire time. You got to start subbing guys. And once you start subbing guys against a team like OKC, OKC have 11 guys that can go. You won't wear down. It's going to be hard to chase. So I do believe that he was out-talented. Um, I don't think the outcome would have been different other than winning a couple games in that series if Luca was there, but I still think they would have lost. I don't I don't I've been saying this all year. I'm a big LeBron fan, but I'm not a fool. They're not a championship team. The championship teams in the NBA right now is what you're seeing out of the Spurs, OKC, uh, and the New York Knicks. Teams that move the basketball, teams that got multiple two-way players, um, teams that can hit shots, teams that don't shoot so many contested shots. Any given night, the team can have four or five guys averaging 17 points or scoring 17 points, excuse me. That's not the Lakers. That's not the Lakers. So until they want to get an identity change, until they adjust, until people want to sacrifice, they'll be a fun team to talk about because of the talent, but they will not be a championship team. Sorry to tell you, Lakers fans. Sorry to tell you, Lakers fans. Speaking of the Knicks, my guy Josh Hart, my guy Josh Hart said a quote that I stand by. I've been telling you guys for a long time, stats don't tell the full story. It gives you a picture, it gives you an understanding, it lets you know what happened, but it doesn't tell you the full story. Josh Hart says analytics are like lampposts to a drunk person. You can lean on them, but they won't get you home. You know what that means, E? Yeah, I can understand what we're trying to get at. Let me help you out. Let me help you out. What that means is that you can look at the analytics to give you an idea, but ultimately the analytics ain't gonna win you the game. Because if that 30% shooter that you keep backing off of, he get hot and mess up your whole game plan. It mess up the whole game plan. So if you keep depending on analytics, you want to lose a lot of games. You know, here's the thing analytics are for the GMs, the owners. That's what analytics are for. You know why? Because that's what they know. Numbers. They know numbers. That's what they know. They don't understand the real Hooper aspect, they don't understand the court, the mindset, they don't understand those things. They understand the numbers. Hey, we want a 40% three-point shooter. Oh yeah, let me look, let me look. Oh yeah, we he we traded him for he's averaged 37% last year, he averaged 40%. That's what they know. That's why they that's why when we be sitting there like, damn, he paid them that much, they're looking at the numbers. They're looking at the percentage. You as a fan are not owners. So for them to leave Josh Hart, Josh Hart was uh has a uh in game one, he had a negative 23, uh plus minus rate, plus minus rate of a negative 23, right? In game one. In game two, he had a plus 18. Real Hoopers understand he can ball. He can ball. Real Hoopers understand he can get hot, especially because he didn't play a lot game one, so now he's coming out with Avengers. How many times we seen that? How many times we seen the player not do well? Mikhail Bridges. We was on Mikhail Bridges' top. Yo, this, yo, this dude complained last year. Now he ain't doing nothing. Then boom, he get hot. Real Hoopers understand that. All you gotta do is wake him up. You don't want to wake up the beast. Analytics are for the owners. Hoobers understand flow, pace, and the feel of the game. That's what this is about. The playoffs, care about that season stuff, man. It's about the feel of the game. You feel me?

That's what, like, so when you think about analytics, bro, that's why I don't really really like getting in debates because it doesn't really tell the full story. I didn't turn the ball over for the other three. And I played the whole game. Do I still turn the ball over like crazy?

People who believe analytics are gold are the same ones who believe the game is won at the buzzer, a one shot at the at the buzzer, then won the game. Those people really believe that. If someone hit a game-winning shot, that's exactly what it was. A game-winning shot. They didn't win the game. They hit a game-winning shot. The game is won throughout the game. Who got the tough rebounds? Who got the loose balls? Pause. Who dived on the floor? Who who's who stayed consistent throughout the game? Clutch free throws. Who was playing the best? Who was guarding the best player? A buzzer beater is just that. A shot at the end. People debate all the time. Oh, is he clutch? Oh, who's gonna hit the last shot? That's entertainment stuff. How many buzzer? LeBron J's been playing for 23 years. Jordan's playing for 15 years. How many buzzer beaters have they really shot in their entire career? Out of all the games. That's rare. The game is won throughout the game, not buzzer beaters. Speaking of stats, speaking of analytics, let's talk about your boy Alex Caruso. Yeah, former Lakers. Former Laker? But shit, that don't serve you now. You can kick your ass. Former Laker, Alex Caruso going into this series, he was shooting 29% from three. Up until this evening or last night, I should say, he was shooting 64% from three. Up until last night, he was averaging 21 points a game. During the season, he averaged six. He averaged six. The first two series, he averaged no more than ten. Averaged no more than ten. Now he the second, he was the second leader scorer in the series. Up until last night. So you can look at the stats like, okay, this guy had this and this that. But they all professionalists they all can ball. And here's the thing about Alex Caruso. Here's the thing about Alex Caruso. He has the ultimate faith from his coach. Let me tell you why. He played in the G League with the OKC, well the OKC, I believe they called Blue. OKC Blue or something like that, right? And you know who his coach was? Who do you think his coach was, he?

So guess who's gonna trust him the most? So the analytics and stats don't mean nothing when you got the green light, when you got a different role, when you got a different job. Your stats might have you might have averaged those points with the Bulls because that was your role. Now you come to OKC, you might have averaged what you averaged earlier on in the season because that was your role. They might got a new game plan now. That's why you all that's why you gotta understand that basketball is about pace and flow. Pace and flow. OKC and the Spurs is going at it right now, E. Are you catching some of these games? Yeah, I'm tuning in some of those games, bro. It's been a good series. It's been a great series. It's been a great listen. I don't want to hear no more complaints after this. I don't want to hear no more complaints about basketball after this. Because the Spurs and OKC is a physical series. You see in the grabbing, you seen the pushing. They not calling no files. Some files they are calling, but it's balanced. There's some Tiki Tac files in there, but sometimes you like, yo, he's grabbing his jersey. Yeah, yeah. So I'm loving every bit of this, man. I'm loving every bit of uh this postseason. One of the things I'll notice for the Spurs in game three is the support and cast got to be better. The support casts have to be better for OKC. I mean, look, they they got they I here's here's the difference in the in game three, right? In game three, the most points scored from the bench was Keldon Johnson. Your six man had five points. That was the most. Everyone else, and some of these are garbage points. Kelly, how do you say it again? Kelly Ulick? Yeah, uh Olenick. Olenick? Yep. Three points. Carter Bryant, three points. These Mason Plumley. These guys get Luke, Luke Kernart played 13 minutes. Mason Plumley played two minutes. Kelly Ulick, how you say Olenick? Olenick. Olenick? Yeah, yeah. Kelly Olenik, he had three points in two minutes. These are garbage points. So essentially, the only people who really scored is Keldon Johnson and Carter Bryant and Luke Connard. And they combined for 12 points. Versus OKC, Jared McCain had 24 points off the bench. And this is how good OKC is. Jared McCain not only had 24 points, he had 21 shots. Jared McCain shot the ball more than SGA. That's how good they are. Any given night, Jalen Williams, 18 points off the bench. And he was hitting threes, five for six from three. He just got hot. That's how good, OK, any given night somebody can get on. And they missing an all-star. And they still beat the Oklahoma Thunder. Excuse me, they still beat the Spurs 108 to 123. Like, I mean, this is a good matchup, man. This is a good matchup. But game four, the Spurs turned it around, bro.

They acted a little different. And here's my thing with the Spurs, and I think they need to clean this up. Because game three, they came out with a 15-0 lead. Then they start turning the ball over. They start turning the ball over. Same thing tonight. At one point, I believe it was like 22 to 8. And they just start turning the ball over. You cannot allow the OKC Thunder to execute their game plan on defense. You can't do it. You cannot allow them to do it. They force 16 turnovers a game during the season. You gotta keep that. You gotta stay under that number. And you want to stay significantly, significantly under that number. Because if you if you allow those guys to go off, it's over. I mean, look, bro, it is over. But luckily for them, they picked it up. They played some defense. They calmed the turnovers down. Look at this. 13 turnovers tonight. Or last night. 13 turnovers last night. Force 20 turnovers by uh made forced the OKC Thunder to turn the ball over 20 times.

But I get it, that's part of being aggressive. He still had 26 points, but again, they need they move they need more shots out of him. And when they got more shots out of him tonight, right? Tonight, I believe he had 21 shots. I'm looking through the stats. If you're on audio right now, listen to this. I'm looking through the stats right now. Um he had 22 shots tonight. 22 shots, 33 points, live and die with it. Three three from seven from three. You need that. You need that out of him. You want to keep putting pressure on guys like uh Isaiah Hartenstein. You want to keep putting pressure on guys like that because he's gonna he's gonna be fouling the entire game, and you want to get him out of the game as early as possible. Attack, attack, attack, attack.

Another question I got for you. So all online, all through social media, I've been seeing a lot of OKC slander and a lot of OKC hate. And I could vividly remember what people were loving OKC, how they were coming together during those earlier years. What's your take on like the OKC narrative, uh foul baiting, the hate that they're getting online?

I mean, listen, bro, the online stuff is what it is, bro. It's fake, it's fake narratives, it's a lot of fake outrage. Yes, these guys are trying to get files. Yes, these guys are flopping, but if you really look at the stats, SGA is not getting the same cause as he got in during the season. I mean, tonight he shot seven free throws. Yeah. That's fair. I think that's fair for a guy who's attacking. I mean, he he shot 15 shots and made and got 19 points out of it. I think seven free throws is fair. I think they did a great job on SGA.

SGA went to the free throw line 12 times, but he had 26 points, shooting 17 times. But look, he is the best player on the game. I understand like he's trying to draw fouls too much. I understand that. But you see people like, oh man, it's just a hard watch. It's just so hard to watch. You just don't like basketball, bro. Like you just don't like basketball. Like, like, stop playing around. You miss Jordan, you miss the old days, you miss one person uh running through walls. That's fine. That's fine, bro. But these guys ain't doing that, bro. And even if you don't like that, it's still a physical series. You can't tell me this is not a physical series.

This would be the two-part question. One, do you think the Spurs are gonna miss that extra ball handling from those two players in particular? And then two, how do you think uh the Spurs are guarding SGA moving forward, like setting doubles, making it hard for him to score and all and all that?

So I do think they do need I do believe that hurts a team. When you lose a ball handler, that hurts a team. Because now the opposing team can double aggressively with less concern on the rotation. Yep. They can double aggressively, especially if it's the guy who doesn't, who don't handle the ball well. Now here's what the Spurs are doing right now. The Spurs, they're doing, they're they're crowding, they're making it look crowded for SGA. And they're doing something what I call on the line, up the line. So if you are on the help, if you're on a strong side help or weak side help, you draw an imaginary line to the ball and you go up the line on that. So it's like a step away from the guy you're guarding in your area. I say area because I'm because if it's a matchup zone, if it's a man and man, you do the you're a line, you're a step above the guy you're guarding, right? And what it what happens is it just looks crowded. So when he drives, they jab at him, make him pick the basketball up, and then once he picks the ball up, they even double. If they double, they all take a step over to the ball. If they don't double, right, they just jab at it and then make him pick the ball up, they they retreat back to their man. So it's making it look crowded for him, making it look difficult for him, making it giving them different looks. And it's a hard defense to beat by yourself.

He's not getting them like he was. Or it's high and cold. This game he had seven free throws. Last game he had 12. So I think it's just making it a difficult form. They're just making it uncomfortable for him. He just got to adjust to that. Um, but we'll see. We'll see next game. Who you got winning this game? Game five, back in OKC. Man, I think it's I like I said, I think it's a game seven in this. I think it's a game seven. But, but they go back to OKC. I say this. If I want to say who wins this game wins the series. Oh yeah, oh yeah. This is an icebreaker right here. Because here's the thing. I think both teams have seen both teams are seeing their best work. Right? Now you got a couple guys injured. Do Spurs take advantage of this? Do Spurs come out and send a message? Like you need the other players. If the Spurs drop the ball, AJ Mitchell out, Jalen Williams out, and they drop the ball, and when I say drop the ball, I don't mean like they lose by one, lose by two, because it could be still a good game. But if they drop the ball and lose by like 15, 20, OKC got this series. OKC got this series. So I say who wins the next game, game five for the OKC Spurs series, they win the whole series. They win the whole series. Knicks and Cavs. Knicks and Cavs, man. I'm not gonna lie to you. I'm very proud of the Knicks. I'm happy for the city of New York. I have a lot of friends from New York. James Harden's defense is is he played better last game. I will give him his props for that. He had some moments where I'm like, all right, Jay, all right, all right. Then he had some other some moments. I'm like, oh my god, bro, what is he doing? But I here's the thing. Like, guys like Evan Mobley, right? You need consistency out of these guys. I believe in game two, I believe in game two, Evan Mobley didn't score. He scored 14 points in the first half and zero points in the second half. What are you doing? They need you. They need you. And not only did he score zero points, zero shots. Nah, nah, you you gotta be more aggressive. It looked like you didn't want to score. So now we see now we were spending a segment talking about Evan Mobley and his inconsistency. Last time we talked, we talked about James Harden and his defense. We did that's not a championship team. I don't I don't think they want to win a championship. They're down 0-3. You think they're gonna come back? Listen, man, for just for pride, just win one. Just win one. And you gotta obviously you gotta win the next one. So I'm gonna say they're gonna win the next one. Out of pride. I think Donovan Mitchell gets hot. He's been shooting. Last game, he shot 21 shots to get 23 points. That's aggressive. It's a bad percentage, but it's aggressive. It's aggressive. Um he shot three for 10, 30% from three. He's trying. Can't be mad at that. He's trying. But they're making it difficult on these guys, man. They're making it difficult on these guys. And listen, the way this series look, the way this series look, it just looks like the Cavaliers, no, excuse me, the Knicks just rolled out of bed, called each other up, and said, yo, yo, you trying to go to the course today? You trying to hoop? Alright, bet. I'll be up there. They just walked up there with flip-flops and just cooking everybody. That's the way it looks right now. The Cavs look tired. I think after two series of game seven, and then that immediate turnaround, like they only had like a day to rest, they just look tired. You're one of your best players is in year 17. They look, they look tired, bro. They look they look burnt out. Um, you can tell by the way they can test shots, you can tell why they're getting up the court. Max Struess is giving it everything he has, but these lights is just not for him just yet. It's not him for him just yet. It's the Knicks' time. So, um, you know, I'm interested in seeing the next game. I mean, I don't know if you prolong an inevitable, which is you're going home. I would, I mean, personally, they always recommend Cancun. So in 09, I was in college. So he was hot when I was in college. But when he was hot, he was still like he was rapping too. Like he was rap, he still gets some singing. So you look for more rap for guys my age, right? I think guys your age accept anything he puts out. Because it's like when you was old enough to listen to this type of music, he was already put in a mixture of singing, a big mixture of singing, a big mixture, and a small mixture of rap. I think, I think over the years the rap songs decrease. Like you gotta figure he put three albums out. Two of them albums are more like singing songs. Yeah, and also, too, I can't help to listen or watch anything without a business mindset, like branding and marketing, right? I'm walking through the mall one day last week, and I hear Drake. But it's not the Iceman, it's what is a song on one of the other albums. But it would sound like elevated music at first. Yeah, come on, bro. Come on. No, no, that's not a disrespect because ultimately we gotta understand that he needs to, he's a universal artist. He's a he's a global artist. So he can't make everything for guys like me. He can't make 16 songs for guys like me. He has to make about six of them, seven of them, six or seven girls' songs. Then he has to make something that you can play at the mall.

Well, the three album, the three album strategy is what a lot of artists have been doing for many years. You give them a double dish, you give them more than six, I think I believe it's more than eight or twelve songs. My my music guys correct me, but that's considered an album. When guys want to get out of the album, I mean, excuse me, when guys want to get out of the contract, and let's say you got 10 albums, they'll give you like two albums in one to kind of expedite that process. So, but for him as a global artist, he needs to balance a lot of things. He needs to balance out, um, he needs to balance out the music. He can't make hardcore coming right at you and you he can't make that music for six, eight, for more than eight songs. So I get it. I get it. But you know, you're gonna get the negative reviews because you have an audience who wanna hear that, and that's where you're gonna get the reviews from. Because once you once, if they don't understand the business part of it, or if they don't want to hear that, or we've been waiting to hear you spit, which we know you can spit, it's like, oh man. But ultimately, I don't know too many albums that you like every out, like every song on the album. But when you put out 40 songs, I believe it's 41, it gets hard to. I mean, I honestly I didn't listen to the other two like like in in depth. I didn't listen to them. I I heard a few, you singing a lot. I'm like, uh this this this this is the overseas album. This this this this is the overseas one. This the Canada one right here. Yeah, yeah. This the this the Europe joint right here. I get what's going on here. I done listened to the American one. I listen to the ice manager. And I like it. I over time, you it got a little, it got a little ring to it. It got a little ring to it. And I think it's just that what you call it, man, that ove sound, as they call it. Um, it's different from everything that's going on, so your ears gotta adjust. You gotta adjust. So you gotta really listen to it. And then once you start, once some of his fans kind of get online and they start breaking down like some of the lyrics. Like I've been Aiden Ross before I've been Aiden Ross's streams before Aiden Ross. Like that, that was dope. That was a hard bar. I like it. I like it. I might have butchered that bar, but you you get where I'm coming from. Um, but nonetheless, I mean, he's a he's a great artist, bro. And I like listen, man. I know this take is gonna get me in the fire a little bit. And he might, well, he ain't probably see this, but anyway, I know this take is gonna get me, get, get guys in the comments about this Drake thing. But Drake suffered from the same thing LeBron suffered from, bro. And that is he's been around for so long that they're gonna critique everything. He's just been around for so long. And is he is he still great? Yes. Is he is Braun still great? Yes. But it gets to a point where people don't like the same thing for too long, especially in our community. And that goes to my last thing on this, right? I don't want to ever be a person who gets on this mic on my own platform and talk negative about someone's art. We're the only genre, the only community that says longevity is not good for us. We need something fresh every time. Post Malone could come out and do a White Iverson, and then he can pivot, and now he got a main a mainstream audience forever. Forever. Because ultimately, if we as a community say, nah, we tired of Drake, he got 40 more songs that he made, that he made for overseas Europe people that he could just go over there and travel and perform. But he won't, he'll always have a voice because he's made different music. And but and we can't get mad at artists when they do that because ultimately we are telling our artists, hey, we do not like longevity. They did the same thing with Jay-Z.
