The energy is real and the mission is urgent: celebrate outstanding students and give them the lift they deserve. We share a rapid-fire slate of updates you can act on today, from a free virtual Getting Through College workshop to early tickets for the HBCU Community and People’s Choice Awards. With a $23,000 goal fueling scholarships and programs, every table purchase, share, and shoutout turns into tangible support for young people building their futures.

We break down what matters most this season. The summer send-off is open for scholars, vendors, and organizations—with fees that are tax-deductible through our 501(c)(3) status—plus a special drawing for two gala tickets for the first 25 to register. We spotlight the Common Black College Application so students can apply to 50+ HBCUs with one form and a low fee, lowering barriers and expanding choice. We put a call out for three male authors and other educators to join our new book project, capturing the real stories and insights shaping classrooms right now.

Monique also opens up about finding peace through music—writing and arranging new tracks like Chosen and Ex-Best Friend—as a way to process a tough year while staying anchored to service. That creative honesty sits alongside scholar shoutouts, newsletter leaderboard updates, and clear timelines like the Takisha Davis Scholarship deadline on the 30th of next month. Join the workshop from wherever you are, buy tickets before capacity is reached, and keep the momentum visible by sharing the newsletter and tagging a student who needs this boost. If this mission moves you, subscribe, leave a review, and share with a friend who believes in HBCUs and the power of community. Your support helps a student feel seen today.

Welcome And Mission

Monique Robinson

Welcome to a Better Chance for Youth television show with your host, Monique Robinson, where we highlight, celebrate, and recognize students from all over the country who are doing great things in the classroom, community, and athletics. Every student deserves an opportunity. An opportunity for hope in a future. So let's celebrate our students, the next generation of teachers, engineers, entrepreneurs, and future leaders. Join us on another incredible segment of a Better Chance for Youth show with your host, Monique Robinson. Woo, that was kind of scary. I thought I hit the wrong button. But welcome and thank you guys for tuning in today. It's not gonna be long as we normally are because I don't have a guest. But look, guys, I got on my World Force jersey. I think this is baseball jersey. I don't know. But you guys have been showing up and showing out, and I give updates. But if you have a copy of this week's newsletter, you know who is on the leaderboard. Now it's really important. Um, probably later on this week I'll start sharing people in different categories because some people don't even know they're on the ballot. I called somebody today and they even told me that, but I'm glad I was able to make that connection for them. And if you are following our pages, you will definitely see if you left comments while voting. I shared those comments on all of our platforms today, and I'm so happy that those encouraging words even warm my heart. But don't let the momentum die. Thank you guys. We are on our way to reaching our goal of$23,000. We're a little short, but you know, once these ticket sales go up and you all start buying your tickets to support your friends and family, you know, how about buy a table? You know, let's see how that works. But anyway, I have so many announcements that I was like, this will take a whole show. So I'm going to let you get these announcements. And y'all know my struggle when I get to push in buttons. So whatever button I push first, that's the first announcement. All right, if you are in the area, we have a getting through college workshop. However, you have to register in order to participate. It's totally free, but we need to know who we're talking to and who we're expecting. And space is limited and it's totally virtual. So you could be anywhere, like you could be in San Antonio or in Dayton, Ohio, but we wish to see you there. We also gearing up for this, our favorite event of the year, our HBCU community and People's Choice Awards. This year is going to be spectacular. I can't reveal all our secrets yet, but it's definitely going to be going to be a simply amazing. So I hope that you all get to get your tickets early because we're not going to oversell this year. If you don't have a ticket today of or you don't have plans, you might be left in the dark. And it is going to be held at the San Antonio Double Tree Hotel, San Antonio Airport location, and we hope to see you there. We also have my favorite event of the year happening. Registration is open now for our HBCU summer send-off for our young people. We are looking for vendors, scholars, organizations, and businesses. Now, you know, it is a small fee, but please know everything you donate to us is totally tax deductible. You can't claim it. It's a 501c public, 501c3 public charity. So anything you do, we will make sure that it is totally, totally taken care of. And the last announcement for the day, before I go into what I'm going to tell you all about, we still have our book for sale, and we are still looking for three more male authors. Uh, three more male authors, and then we can get to getting now. If you are interested, whether you're male or female, but you are an educator, we are accepting um authors because you know this is a good conversation to have, especially with things that are going on in education, especially if you're in this area. But um after this commercial break, I will tell you some more things that is going on with me. Stay tuned.

I forgot to push the button. Welcome back. Welcome back. I know this is it's always a good time when you're here with uh Nick Robinson because that's just what we do here. Now, one of the announcements that I have to give, I know several people have been reaching out and wondering I have a new hobby or something where it's allowing me to totally relax. I mean, most people know I am a published author. I love to write, but I also love to sing. Those who know me personally know I love to sing. But um, I've been doing a different thing, um, inspired by one of my close friends, and I I truly, truly appreciate Mr. Peter. Oh, you might not want to be called that, Peter PK um for bringing that back to my attention. Like, sis, you can't be like this. You cannot allow um life changes and life situations to get you. So if you have been following all my platforms, I got another one for you guys to follow. So if you go to any of your listening streaming places, iTunes, Amazon music, YouTube music, type in Ms. with a Z, M-O Apostrophe, music with a K. And you will see your girl. And um honestly, guys, I have not written any of those songs about a particular person, even though I have gotten calls, especially my song titled Ex-Best Friend, but it's really not about anybody, it's just me just writing. And those who know me know sometimes I can just come up with a whole song just sitting like this, and that's just me. But it, you know, find your peace this year. That's what I want people to do. A lot of us started 2026 with a bang, literally, you know, either it was a bang to your heart, either it was a bang to your finances, or it just was a change of life period. Um, going through several things, it has enabled me to channel that energy in a different way. So I appreciate everybody that was like, what's going on? Or even people, you know, some old friends like, girl, you was mad at me. All you had to do was call. No, X-Best Frame is not about you, boo. It's just me writing. But if you are watching, it is a song that's gonna release Friday. Um, and have you ever written something and you just cried when you listened to it? Um, I did that with two of the songs. Um one of the songs is already out, it's called Chosen. And I think I released the extended version. Um, now I am not singing. I will tell you that I am not singing. I just wrote and arranged the songs using my musical programs. However, it has been a challenge that they do want me to sing, and I'm kind of like, so pray for your girl. But I just had to get those important announcements. And if you are following, please check out this week's newsletter. We got some exciting things going on, especially with our scholars. Shout out to Autumn and uh Ciani. They are singers this year. I really have enjoyed working with them this year, and don't forget to show up Saturday. It's virtual, so you don't even have to get out to bed. You just click the button and you know, keep your camera off if you think you're gonna look a certain way. So stay tuned. I can't wait to see you all at our events. Um, the application for Takisha Davis scholarship is due on the 30th of next month, and the HBCU send off has officially opened. And you know, shout out to Miss Kathy Henderson. She is a fan favorite. She already registered to come. So, you know, who knows? We might do a drawing. The first 25 people that register, we might throw in a pair of tickets to the gala in a drawing for y'all. But you gotta register for this for the send-off, though. So and we'll put your name in the hat. So, Miss Kathy, you might be the only one in the drawing. So, first people, first 25 to register for the send-off, we're gonna put you in the drawing. And you win two tickets to the gala. Those tickets are about$60 by itself, so I don't know. But anywho, it has been real, and thank you guys for always supporting, showing up, showing out. Now, don't forget we do have the 50-50 raffle as well, and I'll be sending that information to the schools itself because we do want our scholars to continue to receive support. Yes, it's been rough for me, so I know it's been rough for them. But thank you and have a wonderful day. You probably see me a lot this week because we got a lot of announcements. I know. Have a good one.
