A birthday show can be more than candles and dinner plans. I’m celebrating the whole month, but I’m also turning that celebration into support for A Better Chance for Youth Incorporated because it’s crunch time and our students need us. If you’ve ever wanted a practical way to invest in youth mentoring, college access, and real outcomes for college-bound seniors, this conversation lays out exactly how we’re doing it and how you can plug in.

I walk through our upcoming HBCU Community Icon Awards and People’s Choice Awards, including why ticket sales and business sponsorships matter and how the event helps fund our South Texas HBCU summer send-off. The goal is simple: celebrate excellence while making sure more young people can step onto the campus of a historically Black college or university with confidence, community support, and a network behind them. I also share a quick tip for saving money on tickets: the newsletter is where the promo code lives.

Along the way, we spotlight helpful HBCU resources like the Common Black College Application, which lets students apply to 50+ HBCUs at once for a low cost, plus a fun educational option with an HBCU trivia game. Then we shift into the heart of the celebration with a tribute montage full of love, laughter, and reminders that mentorship is built over years, not moments.

If you believe in lifting students and strengthening HBCU pathways, listen, share this with a friend, and leave a review so more people can find the mission. What’s one way you’ve seen community support change a young person’s future?

Welcome And Donation QR Code

Welcome, welcome, welcome. Yes. Uh today is a unique show. Uh, it's really, really like uh my birthday celebration show. So, but before we get into that, I want to let you know that that code is you know right there. You can scan it, you can take a picture of it, and that's how you totally can donate to a better chance for youth incorporated. Uh, we really, really, it's crunch time for us. We are getting ready for our annual, and I will be doing a uh presentation about that. Our annual um HBCU community icon awards and pray I hit the right button because y'all know how I do. But um, I will put that up on the screen where you can scan, you can hit the link, you can buy tickets, and if you are a business, you can actually do a sponsorship. We would greatly appreciate it because our HBCU Community Icon Awards actually funds our HBCU community send-off for our young people here in the area. And this year, guys, we have an epic number of young people headed to our nation's historically black colleges and universities. So, um, before we kick off, my birthday, um, yes, my birthday is actually May 1st, but um those who know me know I celebrate the entire month. So, right after our um commercials and things like that, you'll get to see a very special tribute video that you know I pulled some of the ones that were sentimental so I can share with you. So I'm going to tell you this. Told you I get to push in buttons. Here we go. Our HBCU community icon and people's choice awards will be held at San Antonio Double Tree Airport location. We really want you to come out and celebrate, and we see this year is trending uh Gramblin State University. They have bought the most tickets so far. But Southern is coming up close because Southern and Gramblin both have icons that will be celebrated that night. So shout out to you too. Now, we do need you to buy tickets, and if you are watching or listening, please know there are some codes that can help, you know, decrease that price for you. So you have to get the newsletter to know that secret code, but uh yes, there is a promo code that can save you some dividends. So I would love to see everybody. That is the final celebration of, of course, my birthday, but we really do want you to come out and support our event. We also have the HBCU, South Texas HBCU summer send-off. We really want you to come and support that as well if you're a vendor, HBCU alone. QR code there, the link is on all platforms, register, come celebrate. You know, we do this for our young people and our kids.

I think that's it.

Are you interested in attending an historically black college or university? Hello, my name is Robert James. I'm president and founder of the Common Black College Application. Our application allows students to apply to over 50 historically black colleges and universities at the same time for only$20. HBCU graduates have been some of the most renowned individuals in their respective fields since the late 1900s. In addition to that, our faculty and staff are truly committed to your success and they have a vested interest in seeing that. That coupled with the academic rigor and the fact that you accept lifelong relationships are just some of the many benefits of your attendance and historically black college. So if you're interested in completing the Common Black College app, visit our website, CommonBlack College App.com to apply that. Thank you.

SPEAKER_08

So you can see the screen saying we're gonna say happy birthday, so let me show you again.

Monique Robinson

As mentioned earlier, my birthday is actually May 1st, but I do celebrate the entire month. Um, I want to thank everyone who has poured in, and I'm still accepted. So, you know, you're gonna take me to dinner, lunch, send me something, hit that QR code because anything that people donate during the month of my birthday, I know I probably should do something for myself, but I give it back to our young people. And uh it totally goes to a better chance for you incorporated. Um, we do have Cash App, we do have Zale, we do have Venmo, but I prefer you go through Gimplify because that way it's trackable and your uh donations and things, you can claim, you know, we're totally nonprofit public charity, so you can, you know, when tax season comes around, it can actually hit you back. So um, before we go, I know this is kind of short because we are gonna see a lot of it. We have a lot going on. Um, before we go, I want to share with you all the very um, like I said earlier, we had some people who totally, totally um sent some birthday well wishes. And I pulled from all of them because the video can only leave us so long. But um, I hope you enjoy.

SPEAKER_02

Hey, sis, I want to wish you a blessed 49th birthday. I pray that God continue to bless you and favor you and prosper you and open doors that no man can shut. Uh, the visions that God has shown me for your life, I pray they're soon to come to pass, and I'm excited for you. Um, I'm just happy uh for the things that God is doing in your life. I want to tell you to keep singing for God, keep doing the things for God, keep mentoring the youth is so needed in a time as this, and also um enjoy life, be happy always. You know, I believe in being happy always, and um just look over the decades of knowing you and the things we've been through, ups and downs, but God still kept us. Um, and I'm excited about it. Um, like I said, the best is yet to come. Your latter shall be greater. We've had we've been very blessed, and I know that you have been, and keep keep reaching for whatever your dreams and goals are. I know you, you'll probably be going back to school. But anyway, keep doing what you're doing.

SPEAKER_08

I love you, and God bless you always.

SPEAKER_09

Good evening, good evening, what a beautiful day, May first, twenty twenty-six. Who am I? You would say I'm Bestie from geez, middle school, so that's easily over 30 years. Monique and I, we have a special banter, she knows, um, from days going to the mall, people watching, talking about in and everybody, to our own secret codes. Uh, let's see, Kim the sequel. She'll know what that means. I mean, to my sister taking us to dances, uh, her being able to come to my house. I go to hers because our parents didn't play. We really couldn't go to other people's houses, you know, just things like that. So it's good to be able to call her a friend. I'm inspired by just all of the everyday good work she does. Um, and it's not just her mouthpiece, it's just her actual doing of the work. You know what I mean? She actually does the work, she gets it done, and that's what really sets her apart. Yes, she works a lot, yes, she's always going, yes, but it's not without an intended purpose in mind. So, whatever she's doing, she's got very good reason for why she's doing it, and she achieves what she desires, and then some. So, I'm blessed to call her friend. Like I said, bestie, you only need a few. That's what my grandmother told me, and that still remains true. So, Miss Mo, all the way from Ohio. Yes, I'm still here in Ohio, she is long gone. Um, I love you. Happy 49th. All right, I'll talk to you soon. Gotta check and see how your day went. Did you act up today? I know the answer is yes. All right, bye for now.

SPEAKER_08

Happy birthday, Miss Monique.

SPEAKER_10

I just wanted to say happy birthday. I really do love you. I just thank you and appreciate you so much for being my mentor throughout these past two years and longer. You've literally known me since I was a little girl, and to watch me grow up, I am just so honored to have such a great mentor, even though even though you go to the rival school, I I can I can look past that. But I really do love you, and I hope you have such an amazing birthday.

SPEAKER_08

Bye.

SPEAKER_03

Hello, Monique. It's your birthday. I just want to say happy birthday to you, and that I love you so much. Um, you've been a little brat all your life. How I met you was through your sister Takisha. She was my best friend, and you used to get on our everlasting nerves, and we and we probably got on yours, but we don't care because this is about you. So I just wanted to say, you're getting old, I'm getting young, and happy birthday, and I love you, I love you to pieces. Have a good celebration since you're gonna celebrate all month. Have a good month, happy birthday, and I love you!
