Hello everyone and welcome back. Today we are taking you behind the scenes with our marketing manager, my boss, Paris. We are going to be chatting about trends that we may see each and every day and how we adapt as a brand. Paris is also going to share her journey to where she is today. So without further ado, welcome in Paris. Hi, welcome to The Smile Effect. I'm so excited for this episode and to have you on. Thank you for having me. I'm super excited to be here. Perfect wrap-up to this season. Before we get started, I want to ask you, what makes you smile the most? Okay, I've been thinking about
SPEAKER_01:this one. I'm probably going to say my dogs. They are like the light of my life, I feel like. I've got a Cavoodle and a Cavador. Bit of a strange mix, but yeah, they make me laugh, they make me smile. And then, of course, my family and things like that. Got to chuck that one in there. I love that. What are your dogs' names? Finn and Lexi. One is, what are we at? Four. And then the other one is like 13. She's very much an old soul. Yeah, they're the best. They are so cute. I've seen photos of them. They're so, so cute.
SPEAKER_00:All right. So getting into this episode and what this episode is about, I want to start off with, yeah, you telling the audience and explaining what you do here at Dental Boutique. And yeah, I guess obviously we've had some dentists on, but your role is a share what you do and yeah how you got into it how old are you everything about Paris tell us all the fun stuff okay well yeah
SPEAKER_01:I my name's obviously Paris in the room today I am the head of content and socials here at DB so that is just I guess wrapped up into a little present being everything content everything marketing and everything that you see on the socials and things kind of have a bit to do with which is super exciting and I love my role kind of taking it back to probably three years ago I think I'm coming up to three or three and a half I've honestly lost track but that's when my dental boutique journey started I actually came straight out of university so I graduated I was obviously looking for a role in the marketing space I did a bachelor of commerce and majored in marketing and business analytics so that was something that I was always kind of yeah thinking of going down but I think of course when I went into uni I think most people who do business and maybe I'm speaking just for a population of one but I wasn't exactly too sure of what I wanted to do. So I think business was quite broad and then I obviously found a bit more of a passion for marketing as I explored the two to three year kind of when you start to pick your majors and stuff. So I obviously got out of university, liked that marketing space and then obviously wanted to jump into it. Socials and content has always been something I've kind of liked. Not to embarrass myself, but when I was younger, me and my cousins and stuff used to do like YouTube and those fun things. So yeah, I think it's always been something on the back my mind. But yeah, I was obviously looking for something. Dental Boutique came up. So I started here as a social media coordinator. And then just over the years through Dental Boutique's growth and things like that, I have made my way up to the head of content and socials, which has been a super exciting and fun journey for me. And yeah, I've honestly loved every second of it. And just Dental Boutique as a business as well has grown so much in the last three years. I know pretty much everyone I speak to about Dental Boutique, I explained that when I first started, we had, I think it was one yeah it was definitely one clinic and now we're at 11 12 13 we're growing really fast so stay tuned yeah stay tuned um but yeah I guess that's a bit about how I've got here yeah um and then obviously my day-to-day role kind of is a bit sporadic every day it's a little bit different but I think that's a super exciting part about it as well I don't think going and doing the exact same thing every day um is something that I think I would love to do but yeah I'm obviously helping leading a team of about eight to ten of us now kind of thing. And yeah, it's really exciting. I've got the content social girlies like you guys under me and then obviously the videographer team. Yeah, that's kind
SPEAKER_00:of my role summed up in one, I guess. Lots of fun. I think it's also so interesting. It's funny that you say, you know, you started, you know, going down, it was a business degree, right? And then you sort of, yeah, fell into marketing, I guess. It's interesting to see people who start off, yeah, with a business degree and then they sort of work out, okay, what's their strong suit and yeah because business is quite broad like it's very even like
SPEAKER_01:marketing in itself I think is quite broad yeah um like I think when you come out of university with a degree in marketing um you honestly can go so many so many different ways there's obviously social media marketing there's um like advertising side of things as well there's um client side there's agency there's
SPEAKER_00:yeah whatever like whether you work for a brand or an agency yeah it's so interesting it's a lot yeah very very interesting um what's your day-to-day like for people that may be interested in getting into marketing?
SPEAKER_01:Yeah so emails, emails is a big part of my day but then I think my I'd say like a general gist of my day is obviously coming in maybe reviewing some of the content from the team that they've done. I'm also also reviewing like structure how can we be as efficient as possible, how can I then support the team as well in terms of getting the output we want from a brand perspective but also obviously just looking at the overall strategy for content and what's coming out of our kind of team as well because I think that's super important part of business these days and I think is a big part of how Denim Boutique has got to where it is today with the content side of things and obviously Denim Boutique have been around for I think we're at 11 years now in and in the marketing and kind of content has always been a focus for for the brand and I think we've obviously evolved and developed as we've as we've gone on but yeah I think we're at a stage now that we've obviously We've obviously got an amazing team amongst us. But we're also really understanding of what we want to portray out there
SPEAKER_00:online,
SPEAKER_01:on our website,
SPEAKER_00:socials. And how we can relate to our audience as well. Definitely. So
SPEAKER_01:that's a big part of making sure that we are just consistently showing up how we want to show up because I think that's a big part, especially in a business like Dental Boutique where we're obviously a part of having a, I guess, transformational impact on people's lives. So we really want to come across and obviously we are super genuine and everyone here is like... Once you come in the business, you can see how passionate kind of everyone is, no matter the role you play. But we really want that to come across on what we do and resonate with the patients. So yeah, that's kind of in a way, like anything that I'm doing, whatever it is, is really honing in on the fact that that's the super main goal, I guess,
SPEAKER_00:at the end of the day. Yeah, for sure. Did you, I guess, obviously, yeah, like you mentioned before, cosmetic dentistry and working for a dentist and everything like that, it can be considered more of like... a niche market, especially for marketing and socials and things like that. Did you ever see yourself in the cosmetic dentistry space or dental space in general? Great question. Probably not. It
SPEAKER_01:would be the first answer, I would say. I remember when I saw the job come out, I was like, yeah, I was obviously fresh out of uni. I'm applying for jobs. And then I was like, I'll just apply. So it was never something I was like, I want to go into. And then even at the start, I was like, I'm not actually sure what that would really involve. Yeah, what it would look like. of obviously a dentist doing the stuff that we do, which now since being three years in, you can really tell like the difference or I guess, yeah,
SPEAKER_00:how we're different. In the industry as well, not just even on the brand. Yeah, but yeah, no,
SPEAKER_01:it was definitely not kind of, I was pursuing that, but I'm really happy that my kind of path led me down that track. But I guess I've always been like into like health and fitness and things like that, but I wouldn't really say that was even like a motivating factor of going down the dental route. But I sure know a lot more about dental now than I am. I did before
SPEAKER_00:I started. And how do you think, I guess, yeah, as we said before, I think we push the boundaries here at Dental Boutique and we really, yeah, go out there and we try different things. But what do you think's worked well? How have we sort of adapted to trends? Have you found that more of a challenge to adapt to trends or,
SPEAKER_01:yeah? Yeah, no, great question. I think we, as I said, we do a great job and I think anything that we do would not be possible without the amazing team that we have. people like you, obviously our video team and all of the brains behind everything that we do, really like it does take a team effort to come out with what we do. But it's obviously something that we're super passionate about. But I guess in terms of, I wouldn't say it's hard to do the trending things just because we have like, as I said, not to harp on about, but we have a great team to like, we're always on the ball. We're always looking at the next thing to do. And adapting to trends. I think we do a really good job. The only thing I would say is more hard is just the our like regulation side of things is when you're in the healthcare side making sure things um yeah can be things that you want to show can be shown and um make sure you adhere to those things but no I think we do a great job in pushing the boundaries I think like I mean not to toot our own horn but who else has a podcast um so I think yeah there's a lot of things that we do that are pushing the boundaries and I again I think that just is a testament to the success of the business as well because we're always trying to think of new things how are can we be different and testing new things. You never know if something's going to work unless you test it. So,
SPEAKER_00:yeah. For sure. I'd love to, yeah, like provide the audience with a bit more context as to, you know, why we started the podcast and sort of, yeah, end the season off here as well I think would be a good note to end it on. Yeah. Well, maybe we'll turn it over to you
SPEAKER_01:because it was your idea obviously for the podcast. Yeah. It was obviously a great one but I think, yeah, it was obviously another avenue that we could tap into and being so personable with our treatments and our service that we offer. I think it was just another avenue that we could touch down, but maybe you can expand a bit more
SPEAKER_00:on why. Yeah, I think more so because we have a lot of patients that have a story to tell. Everyone, each and every person really that walks to the door at Dental Boutique has their own story and they have a reason as to why they've come in, whether they're scared of the dentist and we're able to help them overcome that fear, I think. That's a story in itself. So I think this is just another avenue for us to provide that information and to, yeah, really let our patients have their voice and, yes, share more of a voice behind the brand. I think we make such an impact, our dentists, our hygienists, each and every touchpoint at Dental Boutique. I think we all have an impact on a patient's experience and it is so important and, you know, dental health in general is so important. So I think, yeah, just providing that voice behind to the brand and sharing that impact was sort of where we were needing to tap into. And I think, yeah, why not why not tap into the podcast space? I think a lot of brands are doing it and providing more of a voice and sharing more on the why behind the brand. And I think, yeah, it was a perfect opportunity.
SPEAKER_01:Yeah, and I'm super excited that we added that into the mix and things. And I think obviously being our first season kind of wrapping up now, I think it's been a very successful first season and we're really excited to kind of see where it takes us and what else we can do with the podcast space as well. Yeah, as I think a lot of people would know that it's definitely a growing industry. I'm not sure about you, but I definitely rely on podcasts to get me through my morning and afternoon commute and things like that. Yeah, so
SPEAKER_02:true.
SPEAKER_01:yeah I think why not we as we said we have a lot of patients who are so willing and open to kind of telling their story as well but also like our amazing team amazing dentists and yeah it just has that like not that it is talkback radio but it has that kind of feel that you can just kind of you're in that conversation with people and yeah I'm sure we all have our favourite podcasts and stuff that we listen to where it is more of that entertainment realm as well so yeah I'm so excited and when you brought up the idea I was more than happy to kind of jump onto it and obviously explore it as well so yeah I think you've done a great job in kind of getting it where it is today. But
SPEAKER_00:I'm so excited. No, and it's cool as well. I think, you know, we also have our high profile patients as well that have their own story and they're really comfortable in front of the camera. So why not, you know, get them to share their story? They have a very, very like each and every patient, high profile patient that I speak to. They have such a powerful story that's impacted, you know, whether they're how they've delivered content or how they've you know, gone about their day to day or how they've built their business. They're so much more, you know, confident in front of the camera or going to events and things like that, which is really, really cool. Um, but yeah, no, very excited. And also I think it, it's really a really good opportunity to answer those like burning questions. Like I think a lot of people with cosmetic dentistry, when it comes to cosmetic dentistry, a lot of people maybe have misconceptions and there's, you know, myths that float around on the internet and things like that. So I think providing a Yeah, tapping into like giving people a little bit more of a background behind cosmetic dentistry is a great idea. Yeah, definitely because I
SPEAKER_01:think as well like it's such a– like I think our whole team here understands as well that it's sometimes for people not an easy like instant decision. There's a lot to it and there's obviously a lot to consider when you're going down the route of cosmetic dentistry or anything to kind of, yeah, change– the way you look or change your teeth or even if you're getting skin treatments and stuff there's sometimes a lot to consider in that and we definitely don't doubt that it's a big purchase to kind of invest in yourself and invest in that so I think as well tapping into our content that we put out in our socials and things it's just another avenue for us to kind of instill confidence and empower patients to make a decision for themselves as well, that we can give them kind of as much information as they need. And yeah. that's for them to kind of consider and think about as well um because yeah like you said it's it's definitely an opportunity for us to yeah tap into a few more things that maybe we wouldn't typically look at on our socials and things but yeah um yeah no it's such a great great avenue and I think that's that's what I really love about the marketing um space as well like we've even got a few obviously exciting things happening next year so stay tuned yes so exciting like you really can just have a That's a really fun part about my role and I think the whole team here at Donal Boutique is that we're really eager and wanting to push their boundaries. So we're trying new things and testing new things for the brand, which, I mean, in myself and my career as well, it's such a– and I think everyone in the team is such a great experience to be able to– Yeah, be a part of these planning sessions or be a part of projects like this. Like, yeah, I'm super, super proud of that for the team and myself.
SPEAKER_00:And also, yeah, making that impact on the industry as well. I guess a lot of dentists maybe like traditionally, you know, they probably wouldn't tap into the marketing space at all. No, I think I
SPEAKER_01:would say like, I mean, not that we're obviously with the patients every single day, but we obviously... Like we know most of our patients' names. It's actually a bit scary. Our whole marketing
SPEAKER_00:team's like,
SPEAKER_01:yeah, that's Bill, that's
SPEAKER_00:Carla. I think there was one time someone got on a flight and they were like, oh my God, that's a patient. Yeah. That is a patient. We know you. Even when we
SPEAKER_01:obviously come to the clinic and we see some of the patients that we've seen there before and after or something, we're like, a bit like starstruck.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah,
SPEAKER_01:really starstruck. Yeah, it's definitely like, yeah, I think one thing as well, again, so we're not like, with the patients every single day, but being in the content side and even just hearing from whether it's our inquiries team or the dentists and things like that, how much our content can impact a patient. Can you tell them to just make that first call? Literally. Like we would have so many patients every day or every week saying that it was our Instagram or a video that they saw. I was in Sydney recently and I was speaking to a patient and she was just saying I saw literally one video and I made a booking because of that. Did she say what the video was? No, she didn't. I tried to ask her but she didn't really remember. But she was like, yeah, I remember seeing one video and that was like all I needed. So it really just goes to show that what we do is obviously powerful and um makes an impact and that obviously coincides to all the effort that we put in and um really makes all of it obviously worth it to know that it obviously makes the impact because I think um I mean in the marketing space as well there's obviously a lot of fun that can be had and stuff but I think we have it super special that obviously we can do all these fun things as well but at the end of the day it also does have a great impact on people's lives, which I think is quite rare in terms of like people's day-to-day jobs. Like you don't feel like you always have the ability to do that.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah. And I think one of the things as well, you said it before, like every day is different. Every day we have a different story come across our desk. You know, every day we are doing different trends or, you know, whatever it is. Every day is different. And I think, yeah, we're very lucky as a marketing team. We're not sort of doing the same thing day in, day out. And just ticking things off, I guess, which is really cool. No, for sure.
SPEAKER_01:It's definitely not the goal we always wanted to, yeah, as I've honed on, push the boundaries. And I think that's what makes DB what it is today.
SPEAKER_00:Definitely. You mentioned something as well before about some exciting projects coming up in 2025. But what excites you about the future of Dental Boutique? And I guess, especially in the marketing space, what sort of sparks, you know, your excitement and what do you look looking forward to the most for the evolution of DB? That's hard
SPEAKER_01:because there's so much. Without giving anything away. I can't give any spoilers. There is so, so much kind of on the horizon. I think that in itself is super exciting because... I mean, as I touched on at the start, I've been here for three years and we've experienced a huge amount of growth already. However, I just know that it's going to go even quicker. We're only getting started. So that in itself is so quick. Sorry, that in itself is so exciting because I think as well being such a, although we have been around for 11 years and as you just said, we're kind of just getting started. We're still in that kind of, teenage stage, I would say, that we obviously have a lot of growing to do but we also have a lot of adapting to do as well so I think being in the kind of structured business that we are we have a lot of flexibility to change things quickly if we need to or do this do that and that is really I think exciting because compared to a lot of like corporates and things like that you have a lot of hurdles and things that you have to go through where we have we obviously have a great supporting team to like want to push the boundaries and that's probably what excites me the most is because if we have an idea if we want to try something and especially with more growth coming up we really have the opportunity to dive head first and try new things and that in itself just expands everyone's kind of experience and knowledge in the space because without that you kind of can have the possibilities of feeling a bit stagnant and things like that but I can only see the opportunity for us to kind of part the way for more things to happen and that's probably Already what I've seen in the last three years is, for myself as well, is like with the growth and kind of in being in that growing stage, you have the ability to path your own way for your career in a way obviously like there's obviously certain business structures and stuff but if you have the willingness and you are eager and passionate you really have the ability to kind of take on your own journey and kind of take your career in the path that you want to go that obviously supports the business as well but I think that's the super exciting part that I know anyone in the team and like obviously myself as well if we want to do something we we have that opportunity to do that.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah.
SPEAKER_01:So, so cool. It's very, very cool. But also stay tuned for 2025 because we've got very fun and exciting things coming.
SPEAKER_00:And even if you're a patient, there's exciting things for you to, like an existing patient, you can get involved as well, which is really, really cool. And yeah, I want to, I think definitely 2025, it's bringing that DB community together and seeing how we can, yeah, become a little bit closer as a DB community and a DB family. So to end it all, off, what is one thing that you would tell your younger self? Ooh, deep.
SPEAKER_01:So deep. What I would tell my younger self is probably, I mean, I don't really know how to put it exactly into words, but just if you want something to just really put in the effort, I think, I mean, I think there's a way you could probably consolidate that a little bit more, but I do think in terms of wanting to achieve something or having a certain goal or whatever it is, whether it's career, whether it's sport, whether it's whatever, it's really the effort. And I think that can be sometimes overlooked in terms of like, oh, like... I tried, but it didn't work out or something. Like I tried, whatever. But yeah, I can really see for myself that I know that I put in a lot of effort to kind of get to where I am today and doing the extra things or doing certain tasks, doing like whatever the things were that needed to be done. I can really see that. I know that I can kind of sit back and be like, yeah, I did a lot of work to do that. And I think that would probably be my lesson is that obviously things don't just get handed to people. It's you really do have to work for it. And I think that's just an important thing. And I think a lot of people can sometimes just, like, look over that
SPEAKER_00:and just be like, oh, like,
SPEAKER_01:I want that. I tried, but it didn't work. I
SPEAKER_00:think as well with, yeah, social media space, like, we see that a lot, I think. Yeah. A lot of people, you know, we see, like I said before, high-profile talent. But a lot of people, yeah, they think, oh, if I just post to TikTok, it's just going to, like, blow up like that. Like, it's a lot more than that. Honestly,
SPEAKER_01:like, even for those, like, the high profile talent or people like influencers, obviously there's a lot more ability for people to kind of blow up these days, but you actually don't realise how much effort goes into that. Even though it might not be classified as hard or whatever people say, if you're posting every single day, you have to put in the effort to do that or whatever. So I think just effort goes a long way.
SPEAKER_00:Yeah, for sure. Hard work goes a long way. Yeah, you can
SPEAKER_01:really tap that into or relate it to whatever industry, profession, circumstance, whatever.
SPEAKER_00:Exactly. Perfect. Well, thank you so much for coming on and for joining me. It was such a nice episode and such a good way to end off the season. But thank you. No, thank you for having me. I've had a
SPEAKER_01:really fun time and I hope everyone had a great time listening to the podcast this season and obviously Paris and the whole team are really excited to bring back season two so yes there's very very exciting yeah a lot of things planned already for the potty but yeah it's been a fun season and I think it's been a great kind of introduction yeah introduction to what we want to do and what more we want to do for DB in the podcast so yeah please let us know if you have any recommendations as well as as we've been harping on about we're very open and flexible for things so Yeah,
SPEAKER_00:and that's it for the episode. Amazing. Well, so good to have you on. Thank you so much for joining me. No, thank you for having me. It's been super fun and I've loved being here. All right. See you guys. Thank you so much for spending season one with us. Next season, we have so many more exciting things coming.
