The New Moon in Gemini is one of the most potent writing windows of the year — and not in a journalling-for-wellness way. Gemini is the sign of language, and language, etymologically, has always been understood as spell-casting. To name a thing is to summon it. In this episode I'm talking about claircognizance / clear knowing  ad how our intuition surfaces during the waning and Balsamic Moon phases of the week ahead.

To book in for a chart reading and a deep experience into self-understanding through the lens of astrology, head here. I have a range of workshops and courses that you can dive into over here. You can follow me on IG over here.

Hey, how are you? Thank you so much to everyone who wrote to me about last week's podcast on Bluebeard. Really does appear to be very strong, let's say archetypal, initiation that a lot of us do go through, which is why it, it is a myth. Like, it's why it exists. I think that's one of the really beautiful things about mythology. Similar to the signs in astrology, they're archetypical. They happen to a lot of us, and that's why there is language and words and knowings, about them. And myth, like I've said many times before, is such a powerful field because the stories It's like there's experiential wisdom encoded in the telling of the thing, which is really juicy and so much deeper than, let's say, I don't know, an Instagram post that's like the five steps to know yourself better kind of thing. You know, like myth is the juice of life, and it's like there's this magical transmission, in the hearing of the thing and also in the telling of the thing. Today I wanna speak about the new moon in Gemini, which will be next Monday, which is the 15th, here in Australia in Eastern Standard Time. It's at 12:54 PM on Monday, the 15th of June. And what I'd like to talk about, I'm gonna talk about that. I also wanna talk about this week that we're in now, 'cause it's Sunday while I'm recording this, but when this comes out on Monday, the 8th of June, it will be the beginning of the last quarter moon. So if you look up in the sky, if you listen to this tomorrow, you'll see that here in US, for many of us, it will be present at daytime. You'll see it's a halfie. It's half illuminated, like perfectly half illuminated. And that's how we always know that we're a week away from a new moon or, that we're a week away from a full moon, because a week after the new moon, we'll have the first quarter, and then we'll have the full moon, and then we'll have the last quarter, then we'll have the new moon, so this coming week is a week of waning, where the size of the moon, or what we're able to visibly see, depletes through three and a half days of the last quarter phase, and then three and a half days of the very, very powerful balsamic moon phase, which is when it's almost you, you can't see it. And I wanna talk about what that is, what it represents, and then my offering of this new moon. Because it's in Gemini, there's so much to say here around claircognizance and spelling. So let's get into it. Okay. So this cyclical nature of the moon, there's the inward and there's the outward, right? The moon moves in a rhythm, as I've been talking about, that's so completely, well, indifferent to our productivity culture. And it's so different in its expression, its symbolism, the experience of the moon to the expression and the experience and the symbolism of the sun. You know, the sun is always on. The sun does not have phases. It's on always, 24/7, expressing, life force, energy, action energy. Whereas the moon undulates. It's like this wave. Half of her... For, for part of her cycle, she's fully illuminated. She's really out there and seen. And then for part of her cycle, she disappears. For half of, the month, she is growing in what we're able to visibly see of her, and then for half of the month, she's in a retreat. She's waning. She's going back to, being more internal. Really in order to fully understand astrology, we need to experience it. It's not, it's not an idea. It's not an intellectual, classifying of different types. That there is an element of that, but it's to really know it is to live it and see it play out. You know, so to really notice how you are experiencing Gemini season, for example. And so what my invitation to you would be for this week ahead, when we're in these last two waning phases, as we approach this new moon next Monday, notice what that retreat is like. Visually take in the moon every day. Watch her retreat. Observe that diminishing as she retreats into herself. We all notice when we have a lull in energy and when we have more of it. And there is, like we all have our own sort of seasonality, our own cyclicalness. For some of us, it's very defined, if we have a menstrual cycle, for example. But even beyond that, it's like we all have these, times within the month where there's more energy, where we might have more of that sort of extroverted drive, and when we wanna be inside and hermiting. I would be recommending here is to observe your schedule. Is the schedule that you live by over the month something that doesn't change, or is there space for this undulation, this sort of inner retreat, and then more of this sort of outward external energy? Or are you just sort of showing up and doing the same thing day in, day out? Because I think if it's the latter, then your own sort of seasonality will really sort of come in and crush that schedule. So I would, just really observe for this next week, what are your energy levels like? How are you allowing yourself more of that internal time? Because in the waning phase, as we approach the new moon, we have all of the intel of the whole season. The last new moon, what our intentions may have been, the action that we took on towards those things, what was illuminated to us during that full moon phase, and then the harvest that comes from that, and then this retreat inwards as we begin to consolidate the month that was, and, and also begin to look ahead. And If we're just go, go, go, then we're missing so much of the creative act, like the, the process. You know? Like, there is that time for composting, and inspiration, and that white space which really leads to the creativity and the insight And then there is that time for the action, the doing. And I'm not saying that for those of us who run a business that we're out of office for two weeks of every month. Part of the natal chart, which is really interesting, is this opposition that's called the foundational axis. We all have this in our birth chart. It's the IC right down the bottom, one of the most important parts of your astrology, of you. It's your roots. It's your inner world. It's deeply related to your early childhood. It's your domestic environment now. And then opposite that, we have the MC, or the midheaven, which many of you will be more familiar with. You know, it's often seen as our roles and obligations out in the world. And when I was taught this, I was taught to think of this as a tree. The IC is the roots. It's everything below ground. And then the midheaven is more public. It's the tree itself. It's what people can see. It's what people see that you are doing and growing and building. What they don't see is everything behind closed doors. It's the nourishing of the roots. It's tending to the intentions, and it's receiving the instinct or the intuition of this is the next move, or I'm feeling like I want to do this thing next. And we need to tend to both to really have any kind of Success. And I don't mean success simply in a, in a worldly, sense, though definitely. But I mean even as a human, to successfully run our human, we need a, a, a level of balance between the inner and the outer worlds. You know, if I'm only out there, doing the work, striving, doing, doing, doing, I will get burnout. If I'm not tending to my inner world, I'll be building something that's not even mine, because I'm, I'm not even connected to my own self and my own desires and wants and needs and my own, yeah, inner life. And if I'm only watering and nourishing my inner life and how I'm feeling that day, and, tending to the inner world, I won't have really built anything. You know, we need this combination, and I really think that the moon speaks to this. She does both. She's cyclical, we're cyclical. You know, there's a lot of people that suggest, and a lot of historians that suggest, that it was the moon and our more ancient, human relatives who viewed the lunar cycle, it, that it was this, this, observation of her cycles that really was one of the first teachings of the cyclical death, rebirth, experience of human. And it's really easy when we have like the, the, the light of our screens and like the, the light of like productive land, to forget about our inner rhythms. So again, as we, as we move through this week, what are your rhythms like? And it's just about really observation And that's the thing, it's like how can we have intentions for this new moon if we haven't given ourse- self the space to contemplate and be receptive to our own inner worlds? So let's get into this new moon It's happening on Monday, the 15th, as I said, and the sun and the moon will be conjunct in Gemini, which to me is so much to do with claircognizance. If you have your moon in an air sign, it is a signifier of, an ability with claircognizance. We all have that, PS, but the moon here, like, enhances that. Claircognizance translates to clear knowing. To know, to recognize, to come to an understanding. And what's interesting is it's this experience of knowing something without being able to tell anyone the why or the how that you know the thing. You know, you can't source this. There's not something that you can cite. It has nothing to do with logic. You know, you can't show your, your... the equation. It's just, it lands and then it arrives. It's not a feeling. It's not a vision. It's not a voice, though for some people it might be auditory. It's this knowing that lands within you, fully formed, like it was already there And I've been doing some research on all of these, all of the claires, all of these, like, clear, subtle, intuitive expressions and senses. And of course, like, they all show up across, all traditions really since the beginning of human culture, like human living. These aren't new things. I just discovered Emma Grede. I've been listening to her podcast this weekend, which is called Aspire, and she was interviewing Tori Dunlop, which is great. It's a great episode about money. I really love learning about money. I love talking about it with my friends. I wanna get really good at money. And, Tori, who's also referred to as the financial feminist, said this great thing where she said one of the most clever things that this sort of patriarchal, system did was to discount intuition. You know, if it's, if everything is logic-based, and I must show my evidence, how on earth does, how on earth does our intuition, this huge human gift that we all have, which is nuanced for, and, and, and singular to each of us, how do we bring that into our work or our relationship or our life if it's being discounted because we can't really prove it? And I thought that was I loved it. One way to think about it is it's like being a conduit for knowledge that has no clear or visible source And something that Plato, spoke about, he gave a name for this clear knowing, which, let me find it. Anamnesis. Th- he called it this, the soul's capacity for recollection. The implication that knowledge is not acquired, but innate, and can be awakened through inquiry, which I love, especially in Gemini season, which has so much to do with curiosity and inquiry. So he says, like, you don't learn the thing, you remember it In my research, I've been looking at, ancient Egypt, Greek and Roman thinkers, and always, always very interested in Alexandria, in Egypt. Ancient Alexandria, it is where the first book on, the first known written text on astrology came from, which was written by Claudius Ptolemy. He also coined the term horoscope. One of these questions that they were very interested in was how a human being, and this is in a sense gnosis, could genuinely know the divine rather than merely believe in it. And I love that, and it's I think it's such an important contemplation really because again, it's to know the divine rather than merely believe in it is obviously incredibly different experiences, incredibly different life experiences and textures and levels of understanding. You know, and like we were talking about last week, experiential wisdom is the juice. And some of that wisdom is innate. Some of your knowings, some of your ways of being are innately individual to you. And something that I'm always observing through reading for so many top-tier legends and interesting people, who have, like, such varied backgrounds is their singularity, but because they have always been themselves, there's this sense of, of, "Well, everyone must think this way." And I know I had that. It really wasn't until my mid to late 30s that I even started to contemplate that my knowledge and my way of thinking wasn't what everybody knew. I think it, in a way, it kind of im- even got in the way of my own creativity and self-expression, because for a while there, I just assumed that anything that I created or put out would be like, "Well, yeah, obviously." So Claircognizance, our intuition, however it is, however it works for you, is when we're in this waning week that we have ahead, again, it's, it's about making that space. If I, if I receive one of these clear knowings and I'm jam-packed 24/7 with activity and doing, how am I even gonna notice that thing, you know? It's like, again, w- to me, like, the waning period, especially the balsamic moon, it's like we're underground. We're in the soil. We, rather than planting these new moon seeds from outside and we put them into the earth, to me it's like that balsamic period is like I am in the prima materia, the primal source of my own soil. Like, my own primal material. I'm, I'm swimming in it, and it's from that space that I'm able to carve out intentions that feel genuine and true and authentic, and they have a charge because they're alive and they're real and they're mine, you know? From the 13th of June, Saturday, onwards, including the new moon, we have Mercury and Jupiter conjunct each other, which I love. Mercury is the ruler of Gemini, and both of these, planets are in Cancer together. So Jupiter is experiential. Having Mercury there is very experiential. Like, that is experiential learning. It's not reading the thing. It's having the lived experience of the thing. And here in Cancer, it is emotional, it is energetic, it is intuitive. It feels like the part of the compass for this new moon is very internal, and it's based off of a lot of the work that we've all been doing over the last year while Jupiter has been in Cancer. Part of that curriculum has been, what's meaningful is felt. And what's meaningless will be more heightened in its feelings, you know? Like I'm doing this thing and it suddenly it feels so meaningless. Or alternatively, I'm doing something and it's nourishing me. You know, Cancer is so much to do with nourishing our inner world or learning, I should say, learning to nourish our inner world And while this is, again, a claircognizant moon, like it's the sun, the moon entwined, like tangoing in Gemini. It's wide open. There is a level of rationality or analysis an- and even logic. And, but its ruler, Mercury, is really, engaged in and deciphering, what's meaningful for me here? What is this current narrative arc of my life? What am I nourishing through my actions? And what am I nourishing behind closed doors, you know, in the roots of my life? With this new moon as well it has a lot to do with spelling, and I've been looking up the etymology of spell, and it's interesting 'cause, like, it's like spell, like to spell something, c- the arrangement of letters, and to spell like a magical incantation share the same root, which is spellum, which means story or narration. And gospel is in that lineage. Godspell, good tale. Ancients literally believed that naming the thing summoned it which is really powerful. You know, Gemini is Our thoughts, our words, how we label our reality completely construct our perceptual lens of the lived experience. Inner world, outer world lived experience. So there's so much power in what we say. There's so much power in what we write. And I would say there's so much power in what we sing. For any of you who have Chiron in Gemini, sing. It's what I always recommend to people who have this. You release so much emotion and energy. You know, I always think of Gemini as the throat, because it's here that we either Like, if we have Chiron here, there may be a blockage around Saying the thing, communicating the thing, even an early shyness. I mean, there's a lot of ways it can play out, and there is so much force in what you say and how you say it. It's like you have the gift of communication, but that gift may have not been, may have been subverted, in, in your socialization. So when we think of this new moon, like certainly how I'm going to be playing with it is I'm going to write down, I'm gonna write down my intentions. I'm going to verbally ex- say them as well. I don't know if I'm gonna sing them, but so I was just laughing 'cause that, that's a pretty funny practice. Maybe I should just try that. There's extra force and power here with the way that this new moon is stacked, right? And to me, like, to me, the halfway point of the year isn't until July, and really, it's that full moon in Cap- full moon in Capricorn, which we'll, we'll have next month, that really, really, illuminates, okay, what are, what are the moves that I've made? What are the practical moves that I have made and haven't made u- upon the goals that I set during Capricorn season? Whereas for me, Gemini correlates to Sag, and it's always in Sag season that I personally, as an astrologer, utilize Sagittarian season and I cast out the visions. I, I contemplate what's possible. To me, Sag is visualizing myself atop a mountain, and I can three- see my life from this huge 360 perspective, and it's like I've got these glasses on that make all of the possibilities, sparkle. Whereas if I take those glasses off, it's like I can't see them, but they're there. But during Sag season, it's like those possibilities are more obvious, and it's the same in Sag season. So to me, partly how I'm using this new moon is to contemplate and go back to the visions that I had during that time for my year ahead. This is a territory that's more bombastic. It's like the dream. And then I always take those things into Capricorn season, and I see what has roots or how can this have roots. How can I grow this? Let's bring in the practical intelligence and strategic intelligence of Capricorn. So that's how I'm gonna use it. I'm gonna write down the things and give myself the space this week. It's also my birthday this week, so I'm already doing a lot of this work because I always sit with my... I mean, I just love a list. Look, I have a Virgo moon. I'm always checking in and contemplating, especially around, like, my own new year, which is a birthday, and I recommend that for all of you, and I'm sure so many of you do it. A birthday is a powerful thing, and it's the beginning of your new year. And so to me, it's like I want to go into my own new year feeling very connected to where I'm going, what I'm doing, who I am, what's possible for me, what am I wanting to bring life to And it's also that kind of medicine for this, this forthcoming new moon. Like, what are the visions that you had in Sag season, and how are you spelling them? That's all I have to say this week, I think. Yeah, I think so. I hope you have, a great one, and I'll see you next week
