I wouldn't go that far. I love this podcast. I would not go that far for it though. So I'm on, I'm on these weird paranormal, supernatural esque blogs and I'm just like, what are people talking about? What's some new shit I haven't heard of yet? And I came across. like a good number. A couple handfuls of posts from different people from like at least like seven or eight years. And they were primarily about what their friends had experienced. It was like a secondhand retelling of it. I did find one firsthand retelling of it that I'll talk about a little bit later, but it starts out, you know, their friends are very normal, everything's going fine, and then suddenly one day their behavior starts to shift in like a dramatic and obvious kind of way. That, and we'll get into that in a little bit.'cause some of the, like the symptoms for lack of a better term, and like characteristics, you're like, that could be something else, but we'll get there. And so they're talking about their friends, like suddenly isolating themselves and act like, not erratically, but they're not behaving like themselves. they're just spending a lot of time alone. They're not really reaching out, they're like avoiding people. And they go on to sometimes have physical symptoms insomnia, fatigue, like progressively it'll get too like catatonic, like states And I didn't structure my notes very well, so I'm picking and choosing from my brain. So apologies listeners. I also didn't sleep much. Thank you so much for that. there was never really like an inciting incident for it. A lot of the friends would just seem normal someday going about their lives. And then suddenly there's just like a big personality change. And it was in like, both really urban settings and really rural settings. a lot of people were describing similar things they would talk to their friends about it and their friends would either be like, oh, I'm feeling kind of down. Or they would be like, yeah, I I don't know. I just feel like heavy just like you feel kind of off, you feel kind of weird. and it's like this, at first you're like, oh, this person is like maybe just mentally ill, like maybe a lot of these things sound just, and like, Hey, raise your hand if you're depressed. Everybody raise their hand. But then it starts to get a little bit weirder and more of like the updated posts they have to like check on their friends. Their friends aren't reaching out to them. So they'd go to check on them and sometimes they would see like a weird, splotchy esque, rash sort of. the only locations that were mentioned were like on the hands and wrists, almost like something like a bruise almost. And one poster took a candid picture of their friend. And in the background was like a blurry humanoid esque figure. I know you're making a face. And that's exactly how I felt. This is the deepest you've ever been into the backwoods, in fact, but you are completely at ease. It's peaceful out here, You've seen no other human beings since you stopped for gas this morning. You haven't spoken a word to your buddy in a minute. Both of you preoccupied in your own minds. You're thinking about how far you are from the campsite you reserved, how you still have miles to go, and then a scream pierces the air coming from your left, maybe half a mile away. It sounds almost humid in tone, but it goes on for way too long, too long to be produced from a single breath. As it finally tapers out, it fades into a low guttural moan. You realize you're holding your breath. Your friend looks to you and nervously says, it must be a mountain lion. You know, it wasn't a mountain lion. You know? They know it wasn't a mountain lion. No, No, As the man appears, again, upper body smoothly, sliding out from behind a tree farther away from the trail, you feel a tug like there's a thread knit into your rib cage and it's pulling you forward hard. You can't help but step off the trail. Stop. Your friend says, trying to hold you back, but you jerk your arm out of their grasp and quickly walk deeper into the trees. You can't stop quietly. So quietly you almost can't feel it. An alarm blares in the back of your mind fighting against the mysterious fog that's filled your skull, but it loses the fight. So forward you go. You grind your teeth as your eyes scan the trees, and each time you get a little closer to the man, he disappears and pops out from behind another tree a little farther away. It stopped asking for help, though it doesn't need to anymore. Finally, the puppet disappears and doesn't reappear Your heart quickens. Your throat constricts, and you break into a run toward the last place you saw it. Desperate, frantic. You reach the tree and quickly look behind it, and you see a stump, a large tree stump with a sizable hollow, and sticking out of that hollow is the lower body of a man wearing jeans and sneakers. And as soon as you register what you're seeing, the legs scramble forward and down into the hollow. You don't hesitate. You fall to your hands and knees and begin to crawl into the Stump Hollow. The earth is damp, but it doesn't smell like detritus. It smells like rotting flesh. You can't see anything, but you need to know where those legs went. Are you close? You bring your arms over your head and inch forward on your belly searching in front of you for something that might feel like shoes. The hole is getting more narrow. you. Exhale, depress all the air from your lungs, shrinking your rib cage as much as you can so you can get just a little deeper into the passage. You have to keep going. You don't know why, but you feel like moving forward is the most important thing in the world. The only thing in the world, you would die for it, you know you will die for it. You wedge yourself forward until you are really and truly stuck at this downturned angle. Blood rushes to your head, your chest burns and you try to inhale, but the walls of the tunnel hold you too tightly. You can't breathe, and that's when you panic. Whatever abomination gripped your mind before the one that lured you here has retreated completely. Now you're alone in your head. You can't breathe. You thra your limbs. You can't breathe. You immediately regret reaching forward. You try to scream, but there's no air in your lungs to carry the sound. More hands now, this time around your ankles, they pull too and they pull hard. Fighting against the force, dragging you deeper down your head burns you. Feel yourself fading black, creeping around your your vision. You're going to lose consciousness. Then the fleshy things, grasping your wrists, the things pretending to be hands let go. The ones around your ankles don't, and you're pulled upwards and outwards. You fight and kick, but you're pulled out anyway. Finely tasting air and daylight again. The hands release you and you roll over to see your hiking buddy. Red faced and mad. Some of them do take place in parks, national parks, state parks, or national forests. They all follow a general sequence of events. Though there are always two people, they always describe hearing a sound like a guttural scream. Some people say it sounds like a mountain lion. but it's in areas where there are no mountain lions, like West Virginia. Some say it sounds like a human, it's like a feminine or a masculine voice. And in one case they said it sounded like an air raid siren. So it didn't sound like a voice. It sounded like an air raid siren sounding right before, which to me is worse than a scream.
