Hello and welcome to Lingua Sports Cards. As always, I am your host, Brian Hayes. Um, I think you can probably see if you're listening or watching this episode that this is a pretty short episode, and uh the reason for that is I just wanted to give a an update about uh this channel and what I've decided to do for content creation, and what I've decided to do is to start uh writing about sports cards on Substack. So instead of creating YouTube videos and a podcast, I've decided to uh write about cards. I think this might um fit my style a little bit better. I want to try it out um writing. So if you go to lingua sportscards.substack.com, you will find uh a site I just started. There's not really a whole lot of content there. I'm just building the the framework for the site, but it it uh it does exist, lingua sportscards.substack.com, and I'm going to try writing about cards, many of the same topics that uh I had here on YouTube. Um, you know, just uh, you know, talking about sports, sports cards, sports history. Um, you know, I've got a lot of ideas in them in my mind, as I mentioned, and um I just want to try and write about cards. It was one of the reasons actually from the very beginning of the the YouTube channel that I I sort of treated it as a like a soft launch. I did very minimal advertising for it. Uh, and that was all sort of the plan. I wasn't quite sure if YouTube or podcast was gonna stick. And uh, you know, so I decided to uh change it up and write a little bit uh more. I just uh I do really like writing and um I just don't get as many opportunities to write uh as I usually would like to. And I think, you know, why don't I just write about sports cards because that's what I like to do. Um so I'm gonna give that a try and uh you know we'll see how how it goes. You know, maybe I'll I'll write for a while and then you know, after some time I want to change it up. But um I have thought about this uh quite a bit over the last few weeks. I think you can probably see that uh the number of episodes that I've created on the uh the YouTube channel it has uh decreased, but uh I've been thinking sort of in the background about content creation. I'm really interested in creating content and hobby education, that's like really important to me. And um I just thought uh yeah, um just going back to some writing about cards would be a good idea. You know, for me, when I first came back to the hobby as an adult in about like 2010 to 2015, that sort of range, where I did actually most of my learning was reading other collectors their blogs. And so nowadays, you know, there's so much content creation, which is a good thing, but some so much of it is video and audio, vi video and audio format. Um, you know, I think maybe I just want to go back to um I don't want to say my roots, but maybe some of the uh the earlier parts of um, you know, when the the community, the online community was really starting to grow, there was a lot of blogs, and Substack is sort of a mixture of blogging and just a full-on website. So I think it's got enough functionality that it's gonna work for me. Um, I'll still talk about baseball, basketball, and football, you know, maybe hockey down the road. So once again, a lot of the same content that I've been speaking about. Um, I'm just going to start writing about it. And um, you know, we'll see how that works. But I'm you know, I'm pretty excited for it. Uh on Instagram, I'm not going anywhere on Instagram, so you can always find me on Instagram. Uh that's always going to be uh sort of like the uh the base, I guess, of lingua sports cards. But uh definitely writing about cards, I think it's something that uh is a good thing, and uh, you know, I think the hobby needs more more people writing about cards, and I think it just uh fits my uh personality style maybe a little bit more uh than uh speaking and uh uh you know creating audio content for for for cards. I think it just uh makes more sense for me at least. Uh my time is very limited just to be able to sit down and write and not have to worry quite as much about um production quality um that you know a YouTube channel takes. It's uh it takes a little bit more effort, at least for me, I would say, uh to uh create a YouTube video as opposed to creating uh in an article. Definitely writing articles is not not easy. Uh it's the you know, I'm not that the greatest writer in the world by any means. Um, but I do once again I do enjoy it, and like anything else, to get better, you just have to sort of practice your your craft. And so I think uh writing about cards is uh gonna be a good fit for me. And uh, you know, just a real quick why I chose Substack. Um, you know, for a little while there I was actually just thinking about creating my own website, like lingua sportscards.com. Uh so that was one option, and just writing articles uh there on my own website. Um, you know, Substack is a good option. You know, it's got the the platform essentially built for you. It's pretty, pretty user-friendly. I'm I'm finding it's uh pretty intuitive to to get the the SubSec page up and running uh how I want. So uh that's good. Um I also let's see here, what else did I think about doing? I also thought maybe about trying trying to you know uh find another site to to write on. Uh there's a few places where you know uh freelance writers can can go write, uh, you know, talking about sports cards. So maybe maybe in the future I'll do that, but I I think for now I just want to try try writing uh on my own. Um I also thought just about going um putting more writing efforts into my Instagram posts. Um when I create a post in general, I I usually will write at least you know two or three paragraphs, but as much as I like Instagram, it's uh it's not really the best space to create long form articles. And so uh, you know, I you you should be expecting some longer form articles on Substack. That doesn't mean they're all gonna be long. Some of them you know might just be short little quick hits. Uh, but I just want to have that option to create uh longer articles. Um and so yeah, that's just a quick update. Once again, the the URL uh where the uh the site is is lingosportscards.substack.com. And um, you know, uh there's not a whole lot of content there right now, but I'll be adding as we go as I as I find time. You know, once again, I'm I'm very busy outside of you know sports cards, you know, with uh with family and work commitments. It it keeps me busy. Um, but uh, you know, definitely when I when I find some time, you know, I'll I'll be writing for for certain and uh keeping the the site updates. So uh once again, thank you for all of you who have been listening and and watching to the to the YouTube channel. I I do appreciate it. And uh yeah, you can just be uh looking for more content for me coming up soon on Substack. And uh, you know, once again, I've I've got a few or more than a few. I've got several ideas that that I want to write about. So it's just a matter of of doing it. And uh, you know, it's uh you know, I'm I don't want to promise exactly how often I will uh you know write on Substack. It's um you know, I I would still say this is probably like I consider it like a soft launch to the site. I want to see if I can get some momentum going. And um yeah, that's uh that's just a a quick update. Uh let me see if there's anything else that I want to mention. I I don't think so. I I I do have some ideas for upcoming uh articles, but uh I don't want to get too far in front of myself. So I think for now I'll just uh stop here for now and uh just say uh you know thank you once again and I hope you're doing well. I I do mean that. I say that you know every episode that I hope you're doing well. Uh but uh yeah, I just hope that you're doing well. I hope that you're being treated well by others, both within the hobby and outside the hobby in your everyday lives. Um, so yeah, with that said, I think I will stop here, and uh so once again I will see you just like regular on Instagram and then over on Substack, lingua sportscards.substack.com. And I uh appreciate you uh all for listening once again, and I will talk to you later. Take it easy. Bye.
