And today we got a special guest in the building, John H. event coordinator for the Ohio Valley Cannabest, going down April 17th through the 20th. This isn't another event. This is shaping up to be one of the dopest cannabis festivals in the region. John John's just not behind the scenes. He's part of a culture, a member of the Weed Suits, a true cannabis enthusiast, and someone tapped into the movement through the holistic cloud and working alongside the council. Man, we're so glad to have you here on the Hot Box Podcast, man. And we're so excited about this freaking festival, man. You know, I guess we'll get started, man. You know, what made you want to get involved with the Ohio Valley Canafest?

Well, uh, I've been well, Billy, man. Me and Billy have been friends for so long. And, you know, we we involved, we were always going and doing these kind of events in other states, you know what I mean? Missouri or, you know, Michigan and other places. And now we have something we can do in our own backyard in Ohio, which is what we've always wanted. So that's another reason we're doing what we're doing.

And that's a good thing, too, man. Doing something from the hogan crowd, man, you know, because you know, a lot a lot of times, you know, and me, I I'm from a small town in Mississippi, dude. You know, everything was going on outside of Mississippi. You know, there was nothing going on in the state.

Yeah, and so I get it. I've been in Ohio for a while, so it it but you know, we also try to fight for the cannabis laws and stuff like that, because we can have these festivals, you know what I mean?

You know, and that's one of the reasons why I came up here to Ohio, man, because there was no opportunity down there where I was at, you know, and and man, I came up here, dude. I came up here and and just uh blossomed, I guess you could say, man, you know, and uh and I and I fucking love the fact that I get it.

And you know, my uh I got fam down there, and you know, I think you can do it now medically down there, which is which is cool. At least they're you know kind of opening up, you know, the doors for that, you know, because you know, to be honest with you, man, and one thing that I love that you guys are doing is is fighting not only for cannabis recreation, but you guys are also fighting for it for medical reasons too, because you guys know uh how it benefits people, just other than you know, give them a change of mindset.

Oh yeah. Oh yeah, because we have a lot of our friends who come in our group that are medical patients. You know, we all, Billy, me, Cooper, we all have our medical cards. You know what I mean?

And and a lot of our people are disabled, you know what I mean? A lot of people are have MS or they have conditions that need cannabis helps. And and so we wanted to have just a place where we could celebrate that, you know, locally, you know, and then we can have a you know camp and have places like that because and now that's what we're doing.

You know, and like I said, man, that's also for you guys looking out for especially the home team, you know, and that's that's that's one thing, and and one thing I like about you know fucking with you guys too, man, is is that you guys take care of the home crew first, man. Because I tell people you can't change the world until you change the what's going on around these surroundings, you know. And you know, big uh big ups to you guys for that, you know.

You're got drugs running rapids right in your backyard, you know. You probably got a drug dealer living in your neighborhood and you don't even know about it, you know. Change that fact first.

And right now in Ohio, it's alcohol companies and big marijuana companies like Cresco and others. You know what I mean?

But I I can't take my unopen I can't take my open bag of cannabis, my business bent through, with my main money, with my medical card anywhere but my money.

How can I take my medicine? How can I go anywhere on a vacation for longer than a day? Since I don't have a medical prescription in Florida, which is only medical. You know what I mean? And they don't they don't honor Ohio's card, so I'm unable to get my medicine while I'm on vacation. What am I to do?

You know, and and that that's the thing that that trips me out, you know. Okay, they said, okay, it's it's gotta be underneath medical, and like here in here in Ohio, if you've been to some of the dispensaries here, especially around here, it's like it feels like you guys are kind of going into a pharmacy. You know, if it makes kind of you feel uncomfortable, you know, it's it's not laid back at all, you know, and it's just kind of like, man, I'm ready to get my shit and get the fuck out of here, you know.

We got a bunch of vendors, we got some nice some good food, you know, beautiful place, a beautiful farm to camp on. You know, we got some tricks going on, we got some games and some events gonna happen. So, we got a lot of stuff going on.

For someone coming for the first time, what's the must-see or a must-do coming there? But you also have some new events going on, so I get you know, it it's probably gonna be a little bit of everything, isn't it?

It is a little bit of everything. Just cut we got four days, so come to take in all of it, you know what I mean? Oh, yeah. Enjoy the beautiful Ohio, Ohio countryside, listen to some good music. We're gonna have some badass entertainment every night. We're gonna have activities to do for everybody, stoner activities and other activities to do. We're gonna have, like I said, a bunch of vendors, some good food. You know what I mean?

And and and I and I'm glad more people are seeing that fact, you know, but I I think we still and it's not just uh, you know, alcohol people, it's the pharmaceutical companies too that are putting up such a big fight against us, too, you know. Absolutely. Because they they know the benefits of it, you know, uh are gonna hurt them in the long run.

That affects any any festivals because you can't call them, like you can't call them canvas or anything to do with, you know, we gotta we have to gotta rebrand a little bit, you know what I mean? Yep, oh I did not know that. We have yeah, but see, yeah, because if they yeah, because if you call it a cannabis festival, then people are gonna be under the whoever sees it's gonna be under the assumption that cannabis is for sale at these events. And so we can't brand it as a Canada festival. It's pretty much Billy Blaze's birthday badge in a way, because it's all in how they're trying to get the Senate bill revoked, you know what I mean? But they got one judge in a county to to stay the Senate Bill 56. But that's only so that they can get some kind of precedent to try to open return. But as it stands right now, yeah, that's what's up as far as what we uh, you know, we gotta watch well well on private property. I get that. But you know, there's there there will be people watching on sure.

Oh yeah. Well, not just that, yeah, because last we did the one two years ago in Jacobsburg, Ohio. Uh in Delmark County. We uh we had 7,500 flyers and we and we quit after that. And there's still more people coming in that weekend. You know, we and so we figured we got about 8,000 people that weekend. And Belmont County, Ohio, their health department got together and they came up with an ordinary to say more mass gatherings of so many people for so long without getting with us. You know what I mean? The KFP or whatever.

And so that's why we moved, you know, that's why the blessing of the you know, the place of Paddis came through that event.

I was kind of curious about that, and I just wanted to find out about it.

Well, you have to be good at like facilitating things. You know, you have to be good at getting A and B together so C can happen. You know what I mean?

It it it you you gotta know what kind of varieties, you know. Because you don't want a lot of the same vendors, you don't want a lot of the same food, so you're you're trying to, you know, develop variety out there, and you wanna make sure you gotta make sure everything is planned out out there. And make sure like trade three is in the right spot for the vendors and things like that, you know what I mean? Yeah. Like them into it. This year, potential vendors have to fill a Google format, you know, to let me know who they are, their number, how to get a hold, and what they were doing.

But it's been growing. So everything's been a learning curve, you know, for me too, and and and having my people and you know, knowing where to put somebody's, you know, so I can do less of what I have to do, so I can actually interact with people more and stuff, you know. Right. Instead of take on and do everything myself, you know what I mean?

You know, so you get people, and then we got the nasty glass event, Memoral Day weekend, and you know, D Danny Kennison, he runs Nasty Glass in Missouri, and he's like, hey, can you can you get can you do can you be my vendor guy too? Because I I know the place that's gonna be at our you know it kind of worked out that way too.

In fact, uh somebody I work with for my nine to five and stuff, man, he's he's going out there and stuff, you know, and I was like, man, that's cool as shit, you know, because you know, we live over here, you know, on the other side of the state, you know. It it takes us, it takes us what, about four hours to get over there? Yeah, about four hours to get over there and stuff, you know. So, man, I mean, that that's how much we like it over there coming up coming over there and and you know, hanging out with you guys and stuff, you know.
