Two For The Win - S2.42 - Pudge The Cat, Shoe Deals & Talent On The Rise!
From Olympic-level achievements to baseball drama and NFL quarterback upheaval, this episode traverses the full landscape of sports with engaging analysis and personal takes that bring the stories to life.
We kick things off with Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone's historic 400-meter achievement, becoming the first woman in nearly four decades to break the 48-second barrier. Her remarkable 47.78 time represents the kind of human progression that keeps sports fascinating even beyond championship moments.
Baseball takes center stage as we discuss Clayton Kershaw's retirement announcement after a Hall of Fame career with the Dodgers, and Cal Raleigh's extraordinary season with the Seattle Mariners. Raleigh's switch-hitting power display has him on pace for possibly 60 home runs, tying Ken Griffey Jr.'s franchise record along the way. We also dive into the viral "Phillies-Karen" incident that sparked conversations about fan etiquette at ballparks.
As MLB's postseason approaches, we break down the current standings and make our predictions for potential World Series matchups. Could we see a Tigers-Brewers showdown? The playoff picture remains fluid with several teams battling for wild card positions in both leagues.
College sports gets its moment as we highlight UConn becoming the first school to produce both NBA and WNBA Rookies of the Year in the same season. Meanwhile, controversy surrounds Angel Reese's signature shoe deal with Reebok after reports she initially wanted them priced at $1,000.
The NFL conversation turns to the alarming number of quarterback injuries just two weeks into the season. With five starters already sidelined, including Joe Burrow and Brock Purdy, we analyze how teams will adapt and which Week 3 matchups deserve your attention.
From Pudge the Cat becoming a college football mascot to Tom Brady's potential conflict of interest as both team owner and broadcaster, we cover the quirky and controversial sides of sports that make following athletics so compelling beyond just wins and losses.

September 18th 2025. We're screaming into fall. Here we're back and thank you for joining us for another week of Sports Talk. I'm Brian with an I and I'm Mike, and we are Two for the Win. Mike, we have an interesting agenda tonight, do we not?
Speaker 2:Well, of course it's sports, it's always interesting. But we're going to talk mainly about some football action, the upcoming MLB postseason, which is rapidly approaching the postseason, and, of course, you know, checking with some of the other sports going on. But let's start first well, hold on now.
Speaker 1:Before we dive in here, let me take a minute to thank our sponsors and partners body by d gym, located in yorktown and gloucester uh, deshawn's a great guy. Uh, former bodybuilding champion, now training other future bodybuilding champions. Among other interesting things happening out of those gyms they're always up to something. Uh, our good friends Christian and Caden over at Solace Outfitters two young athletes building a brand while they're up and coming in the sport of basketball themselves. And the Giving Tree chiropractic service located down here in Virginia Beach Justin's a great guy, very good at what he does, has a walk-in chiropractic service and makes it accessible to everybody. So good job, guys. Thank you for being our sponsors and partners and we look forward to continue doing business with you. Mike, let's dive on in man. Let's do some burnouts here and get rolling.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, if we're going to talk burnouts and speed, we got to talk about some track speed man so recently, recently. So I know a lot of people. They probably don't follow track and field or anything beyond Olympic sports except during the Olympics, but we recently had Worlds and had an accomplishment we got to give a little shine to. So Sidney McClone, lerivo.
Speaker 1:LaRivet, mclaughlin, lavrone.
Speaker 2:There you go, jesus, thank you, thank you. When I stumble on a name, we give you a shot and you usually come through, or vice versa.
Speaker 1:It's been rough here these last couple of weeks. I've been missing a little bit, but I'm glad we're back on the ball.
Speaker 2:Well, the reason we bring her up is because she became the first woman in nearly 40 years to crack the 48 seconds in the 400-meter run. She clocked in at a time of 47.78, in historic fashion. You know, we got to give a shine to that. I mean, when you're doing stuff at a high level, especially for the Olympics, I mean, come on man. I mean this is Worlds, you do Worlds, you do the Olympics. She'll be in the Olympics for sure next summer Olympics.
Speaker 1:Congratulations.
Speaker 2:You got to give her her due. You know, yeah, I like it. Yeah, you start doing stuff when they say, oh, it hadn't been done in 40 years, 50 years, when you start talking like decades ago.
Speaker 1:It's always a good sign when athletes in particular continue to push the limits, continue to break records, Because that lets you know humans are progressing at least physically, if not mentally. You know there's a lot to be left for that desire, you know, for mental capacity.
Speaker 2:I don't know. I think maybe some people do, but I don't know man, I go to Walmart and it looks like some people are de-evolving.
Speaker 1:At least we are specimens of physical performance. I'll give us credit on that.
Speaker 2:I don't know what physical performance you're talking about, but when I go to Walmart I'm not seeing perfection. I'm seeing large and in charge, but in the wrong way. Anyway, not really. I'm not one to talk, I'm not exactly a donis myself, but still donis but let's get back to the, to the thing at hand and give sydney her due because she doing things so anyway, let's talk some football man I don't want to talk football yet, I'm sorry, I meant baseball.
Speaker 1:The shark man I meant to man, I don't want to talk football yet You're trying to jump the shark man I meant to say baseball. I don't mess that up, oh look at you, look at you. I'm literally reading MLB and I still said football.
Speaker 2:This is sad, that's because you've got a one-track mind you want the football now.
Speaker 1:We'll get there. We'll get there, man, it's coming up shortly.
Speaker 2:When we say flagship, we close with flagship.
Speaker 1:Clayton Kershaw, though right.
Speaker 2:Okay, let me get into this. Okay, clayton Kershaw. Clayton Kershaw has been a Dodgers pitcher his entire career. So, first off, that's a feat in itself, because people don't typically stay with the club that brought him in. But let's give him his due, because Clayton Kershaw is going to be a Hall of Famer. There's no doubt in my mind. He's done everything that you want to do in a career. He's won a World Series. He's been a multi-time All-Star. He's had multiple times leading the league in wins and up there with the strikeouts. He's calling calling a career. After all his years in the MLB, he's finally calling it a career.
Speaker 1:Congratulations.
Speaker 2:He's still doing it, like he's still pitching well, and this is after he's lost speed on his fastball. So some people are like come on, man, you're finally healthy, you're doing good, come back. But he's like nope, quit while you're ahead. Man, you're finally healthy, you're doing good, come back. But he's like nope, quit while you're ahead, man, exactly. But he's not the only one. Recently, anthony Rizzo, former Cub, helped the Cubs win their first World Series in over like 100 years. Curse of Bambino.
Speaker 1:That's right and potentially responsible for the word Riz.
Speaker 2:He's the original Riz, original Riz, anyway, anthony Rizzo. He called it a career and he got a little bit of a due from the Cubs. He came in and did they did a little ceremony honoring him because he was part of that team that finally broke through Nice. But speaking of breaking through, how about Cal Rowley? Kyle Rowley is doing his thing. Not only did he tie, he tied Mickey Mantle. Oh, now he ties Mickey Mantle. But then after he hits you know, home run 54 to tie him, he goes ahead and he does something pretty impressive following that, and here we're going to play this little audio for you.
Speaker 2:Going to play this little audio for you here in a second, after I get through these stupid advertisements that like to pop up in the middle of my videos.
Speaker 1:Well, that's terrible. It's always terrible, but it's okay, we'll get through it. Yes, we will. We will.
Speaker 2:High and deep and hooking and fair.
Speaker 1:And Cal Raleigh with his 55th home run.
Speaker 2:There we go, and now he bats right-handed and hits it deep to center field.
Speaker 1:Back goes Isbell and he homers again from both sides of the plate. Man, he's just slamming them. Single-season home run record at 56. Tying Hall of Famer Ken Griffey Jr.
Speaker 2:So if you didn't catch that, not only did he homer to break the record at 55 from the left side of the plate, but then he comes up at the right side of the plate and hits a home run from the right side of the plate to hit 56, to tie Ken Griffey Jr for the most home runs by a Seattle Mariner in their history.
Speaker 1:Just, slamming them.
Speaker 2:But here's the thing he's also extending the streak of switch hitters with the most home runs. So Cal Raleigh, this dude deserves the AL MVP Like he deserves it. He's setting records. He's doing something a catcher has never done, doing stuff that a switch hitter has never done and he's still in them. He might hit 60. He has a chance to get to 60 in a single year.
Speaker 1:I like to bet on it, honestly. Yeah, if he's hitting like this, I'm willing to bet, Especially if he's hitting like that. So congratulations to him. He's hitting like this, I'm willing to bet he was hitting like that.
Speaker 2:So congratulations to him. Keep on going, bro.
Speaker 1:Yeah you like to see good things in baseball, but unfortunately baseball fans are among the worst.
Speaker 2:Yes, there are some that are the worst, and recently well, I say recently, it's a little bit dated, not that dated.
Speaker 1:But everybody knows what I say. Probably 10 days or so, but we're going to beat the horse anyway, Right?
Speaker 2:we're going to talk about it anyway because it's worth talking about. So what we're referring to is the Phillies-Karen and, for those of you that might not be aware of this, there was a game against the Phillies in the Marlins where a Phillies fan was where a home run ball was being hit and a guy from another section over runs over, grabs the baseball, runs back over to his section and hands the ball to a kid probably his son, Maybe he's an uncle that's giving his kid the ball. You know, but this woman, this woman who was right about where the ball was hit is reaching down in the aisle in front of her to grab it, but this guy snatches it up and runs away. So she's not going to take that. She walks over and gets in his face and starts getting mad at him for running over and snatching the ball before she had a chance.
Speaker 1:You know, there's a lot of gray area here, okay? Um, it doesn't sound like anybody handled the situation well, well, okay but I mean, they didn't handle it well what dad ended up giving the baseball back to Karen.
Speaker 1:But you know, okay, it's not uncommon for fans to go a section or two over when a foul ball gets hit. Okay, we have Harbor Park right here. We see it at Tides games all the time, like people leave their sections to go where the foul balls are flying at. Um, now, depending on the timing of where, we'll just call her miss karen, of where miss karen was at in reaching down, like me as a man, right, like, if I see somebody already bending down to get it, I'm probably either gonna grab it for him and hand it to him or I'm just gonna let them finish getting it and I'm gonna back out.
Speaker 2:Right, if you're that close to it proximity but well, but at the same time, if you're as part of the game for your kid and and let's, let's, let's be realistic. In most situations in baseball, if a player's throwing a ball into the stands, he's usually giving it to a kid. He's not giving it to an adult he's giving it to a kid.
Speaker 1:That's the flip side, like he's doing it for his son and I feel like you know it was Karen. I mean, most reasonable people would let that go once you see yeah, I mean like I.
Speaker 2:I understand the frustration because you're sitting there. It comes right to the row right in front of you. You think I got this. I'm gonna get my first, probably first ball ever they had a chance to get.
Speaker 2:She was probably a little embarrassed too, because she was reaching for it and it just got swiped on her right, right, I I understand the embarrassment, but you got to think about the fact that at the end of it you see him go over, hands it to the kid. The kid is excited, like he's elated. He's like, wow, my dad just got me a home run ball, yeah. And then you come over there and you're just like just screaming at him, like how dare you come over to my section and get this ball, like I, I don't know, I mean for me, for me. It comes back to it's for the kid. Give it to the kid, let the kid have it it just sounds like a bang bang situation well, let's, let's understand.
Speaker 1:it was an emotional decision and when you make decisions based on emotions, typically it's a bad decision, hey a driving instructor, very smart guy once taught me If he never taught me anything ever again, he at least taught me this. We call him Mr Tom. Anyway, he'd say what is it Lose? Lose your cool, lose your judgment right, yeah, first thing when it happens, when you lose your cool, is the judgment goes right out the window with it fair enough.
Speaker 2:I mean, I I tend to agree with that, but you know it, there's there's two sides to this, I do. I do disagree with people like belittling this woman, and you know there's two sides to this. I do disagree with people like belittling this woman and, you know, harassing her on social media. I don't think that's right.
Speaker 2:You know it's like let the moment pass, you know, sit there and be like, oh, that woman was in the wrong, but don't ruin the person's livelihood or ruin the person's life over something that happened. You know, for a brief moment, a moment in time.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I mean this you know, back to the uh uh Cubs when uh oh, was it Steve Ah the, the one guy with the headset? He was like in the. The Cubs are in the playoffs. The guy like reaches over, tries to get the ball and in doing so he winds up screwing over the Cubs outfielder from being able to get the ball. Basically, since then, the security had to usher him out because the Cubs fans were ready to kill him.
Speaker 1:Now, I'm not that physically motivated, so you're not going to catch me in another section trying to get a ball from my son. Okay, well, what if nobody's in the section? Well, that's. The other thing is it wasn't like a packed game. It was relatively open too.
Speaker 2:There was nobody in that row. Yeah, the whole row was open.
Speaker 1:So there's the other flip side. Okay, I could. If people were there, he probably would not have done that. No he wouldn't have been able to get to it, and I don't think Karen would have got it anyway if that were the case.
Speaker 2:Right, right, because the people in the row in front of her would have gotten it.
Speaker 1:But yeah, I mean, it depends on how you want to view this topic. I think the lady is more in the wrong. Obviously she needs to live it down, but I don't think ridiculing somebody over it continuously is necessary. If you want to make a meme out of it, make a meme out of it.
Speaker 2:Yeah, at the very least you can make a meme out of it.
Speaker 1:Forever be engraved in history. Well, at least pop culture for a little while. And, by the way, one last thing on that topic the team invited that family to meet the team personally after that. So something good came out of something bad, at least that happened, and I think they gave them box seats or good seats or something like that too. I forget what exactly happened. So yeah, there's, even you know, there's that.
Speaker 2:Let's move on and talk about Blake Snell and his recent start. So Blake Snell, in his recent start he was about middle of his inning when he was pitching and he was pitching good he was looking like Cy Young winning level Blake Snell and the manager is calling for the bullpen and trying to go down and take him out of the game. Manager is calling for the bullpen and trying to go down and take him out of the game and blake snell looks at him like if you don't get your butt back in that dugout, I am not coming out of this game. He just like he gave him a look like no, so my inning, I am not coming out, he's just gonna take it.
Speaker 1:He's just gonna take it, okay.
Speaker 2:But here's the thing. So Blake Snow, he says I don't like bullpens finishing my innings. I'm very adamant about that. I don't want them in that situation. I put myself in this. I'm going to get myself out of it. So I applaud him for that. Like you want to do your thing and make it happen.
Speaker 2:Now, this brought a little controversy because here recently they've been having some issues with their bullpen Giving up runs late, losing games late after really good starts, Hell, losing a no-hit bid twice in the ninth inning of two different games. And it's calling into question like come on, Dave Roberts, what are you doing If they ain't pitching well, out of the bullpen? Just let these guys do their thing, you know, Stop pulling them, you know. So I kind of feel for him in a way because, like the manager's just trying to do his job. But, Blake Snell, I really agree with his moxie, you know, it's kind of like I got this.
Speaker 2:This is my inning, Get out of here. What makes it better is the reliever was already halfway across left field before he was told to go back to the pit. No, bro, go back, I don't need you. So, with that said, we are running quickly to the end of the season Into the postseason. Yeah, postseason baseball is right around the corner and at this time we want to try to take a look at the standings and see what's going on, who's leading, Because really right now we've only had three teams punch their ticket for the postseason.
Speaker 2:Yeah right now we've only had three teams punch their ticket for the postseason. Yeah. So right now in the AL East you've got the Toronto Blue Jays leading at 89-64, with the New York Yankees right behind them at three and a half games, and they're very much in the talks of a wild card position.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I would say they, can you know, for the Blue Jays to hold off the Yankees be a good running start.
Speaker 2:In the AL Central, the Tigers lead the division with an 85-68 record. They're holding strong. They've been scuffling a little bit here lately, sitting here with a three wins over seven losses over the last ten. So they've got to keep it going because right behind them, only three and a half games, is the Guardians and they're fighting for their playoff hopes. But the AL West is the most intriguing division in the AL right now because you got the Houston Astros and the Seattle Mariners tied up with an 84 and 69 record, both apiece right now, houston leading the edge over that situation, probably by their division amount of division wins. Moving over to the NL, the Phillies have already punched their ticket. They have won the division and they are sitting firmly with their 91-62 record. So they're they're ready to go. The Mets are not catching them.
Speaker 1:They have no worries because they got a 12 game lead over the Mets.
Speaker 2:Yeah but the Mets are looking at a wild card spot, the NL Central we got. The Milwaukee Brewers and the Cubs have both punched a playoff berth, but they're so close in record right now, with a few games left, they still have a chance. Milwaukee is probably going to hold them off with their 93-59 record and the Cubs sitting at 88-64. Five games back. Five games back.
Speaker 2:They'll probably hold that out? Yeah, they'll probably hold that out. They probably need an incredible collapse to not win the division there. But speaking of possible collapses, the Dodges sitting there with their 85-67 record are only two and a half games up on the San Diego Padres with their 83-70 record. So right now we're looking at they're only two and a half games back. They have a chance, especially the dodgers scuffling here here and they're getting some fluky starts by their pen. So, yeah, speaking of that wild card, wild card right now looking pretty interesting because we already have some of these spots spoken for. Yeah, you know, with the Toronto Blue Jays, the Tigers and either the Astros or Mariners looking to be the division winners, the Mariners are going to take up one spot. Then you have either the Astros or the Mariners will take one spot but the other one will take the wild card.
Speaker 2:So you've got the Yankees and Boston looking as the other teams take a wild card spot but, like I said, cleveland still in the running. You go over to the NL side Milwaukee of course leading their division, phillies leading their division, los Angeles Dodgers leading the division We'll see for how long if they get caught Cubs right behind them.
Speaker 2:Cubs have already punched their ticket, so they're going to take that top wild card spot and the Padres and New York Mets right now are leading for those final wild card spots. But the Diamondbacks are only two games back and the Reds are only two, two games back and the reds are only two and a half games back, catching those mets who, as are the giants- yeah, I have a habit of collapsing late, so let's hope that they can hold it off.
Speaker 2:But if we were to go right now into the postseason postseason the postseason would look pretty crazy. You'd have Boston playing Seattle, you'd have the Houston Astros playing the New York Yankees, meaning that the Blue Jays and the Tigers would get the bye, the Mets and the Dodgers would play each other and the San Diego Padres and the Cubs would play each other, given the Phillies and the Brewers the first round bye. It's shaking out pretty good.
Speaker 2:Based on what you see here, man who do you think might make it all the way for both sides?
Speaker 1:Well, I think the Dodgers are definitely a contender. The Phillies have been red hot. You know, looking over here in the NL, Really, for the NL, I like the Dodgers or the Phillies, take it all the way to home. And over in the AL, you know the Blue Jays not too bad, they're a favorite. And then I like the Yankees or the Astros. Whoever wins that is going to have a deep run.
Speaker 2:I think what we're going to see. I think the Brewers are going to make it all the way for the NL and I think this is the year that you see the Tigers make it back to the World Series. I think we're going to have a Detroit Tigers and Brewers World Series.
Speaker 1:Well, we got it right here. Don't gamble on us, but you know, we'll see what happens.
Speaker 1:We'll see how this shakes out. It's going to be an interesting playoff run, that's for sure. But over here, jumping into a little bit of college basketball here we don't have much, but I thought this was notable. Okay, how you know, uconn has always been a big basketball. Here we don't have much, but I thought this was notable. Uconn has always been a big basketball school. I follow UConn, especially when it comes to March Madness and some other sports as well. They are the first school to produce the WNBA and NBA Rookie of the Year. In the same year For WNBA, paige Beckers with the WNBA and NBA Rookie of the Year. In the same year. For WNBA, paige Beckers with the Wings. And then, over on the NBA side, stephon Castle over with the Spurs, both of them respective 2025 Rookie of the Year. Both of them come out of UConn's program. I was just doing some brief research on them, mike. They are loaded talent talent, wise, it seems like. And, uh, they just have some some basketball roots up there.
Speaker 2:Let me tell you what well, yeah, I mean, you don't. You don't have as many championships as they do on both the men and women's side without having some good talent coming through.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and that also speaks to their coaching as well. So I mean, I don't know if anybody's familiar with some of their players or not up there, but we won't go through too many of them, but they do have some notable players.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean coaching-wise, you still have Hurley there. You know Dan Hurley, Yep, and you know he's quite a character himself. Yeah, I love some of his sound bites when he gets interviewed. I'm waiting for him to just be like I don't have time for y'all.
Speaker 1:I ain't got time for y'all, but I thought that was notable and UConn's one of my personal favorites, especially when it comes to basketball, so I thought that was an incredible thing to have. I can't wait to see what else they produce on that as well. And you know, just talking real quick, we want to do NBA or we want to do college football. First, let's go NBA.
Speaker 2:Let's talk some NBA.
Speaker 1:Or we're going to talk about. Let's take a minute to talk about the WNBA playoffs here, real quick too, since we got this up in front of us.
Speaker 2:That's true. We should talk about that.
Speaker 1:They're in their playoff time. It is time to shine. Okay, and let me give it up here real quick golden state valkyries in their inaugural season making the playoffs. Okay, they already got knocked out by the links, but you know, good job, it's your first season as a team in this league yeah, and that's that's that's saying something.
Speaker 2:You know, when you you are at your very first season, you're probably not loaded with talent. You know, you're just kind of just coming together and you don't have any real, like you know, solid roots. So you're getting your first shot and you take it all the way into the playoffs, unfortunately because, being the eighth seed, you had to go against the one seed in the Lynx, and the Lynx just they're just unstoppable. At this point they look too good. I personally think the Lynx are probably going to wind up taking it all.
Speaker 1:Yeah, the Lynx are loaded. They're a really good team. And then, you know, just saying waiting to wrap up the other three games Mercury versus Liberty. They're tied at one to one in the series. Next one's going to take it. Uh, the aces and the storm also tied one at one.
Speaker 2:And then atlanta dream and indiana fever yeah, despite all the injuries, indiana got their way in there yep.
Speaker 1:So still awaiting results from those two games, then we'll slide on to the semifinals here for them. So congratulations and good luck to those remaining seven teams and congratulations to the Vapors for making their inaugural season and real quick. Before we jump into the next thing, I forgot to add this. You know, both Kaitlyn Clark and Angel Reese got respective shoe deals right. I think Kaitlyn Clark is with Ad and Angel Reese is with Reebok. Yeah, it's with Reebok. I don't necessarily agree with this. I'm not trying to talk trash or anything, but Angel Reese is a little flabbergasting to me. Okay, guess how much Reebok originally had priced the shoe at versus what Angel Reese wanted.
Speaker 2:I don't know. I'm thinking signature shoe, maybe 150, maybe 200 bucks.
Speaker 1:So they end up settling on 150 angel reese, wanted them to be worth a thousand dollars a pair and she went head to wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
Speaker 2:She wanted $1,000 for every pair.
Speaker 1:Yes, and she literally—and this is going to strike a chord here for a second. She literally had butt heads with Reebok over this, because she says she has 5.4 million followers. I don't know, I don't know how to count, but I know it's a lot 5.4 million followers that will buy them just because they're, first of all, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa. How many of those followers are just people? Oh, like follow, you know, just nonchalant. And then the other thing is that most of those followers are probably middle or middle to lower class, who can't afford that anyway.
Speaker 2:Right. So it's kind of Well okay. I think it's kind of well okay. I think about it from this standpoint. Let's say you're a young fan. You know you're maybe elementary school or middle school age kid and you don't have $1,000. And maybe you're one of four kids in a family. Your parents certainly don't have $1,000 to spend on some shoes.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and if you're financing shoes, it's already a bad idea. But yeah, reebok actually wanted them to be $40 a pair. They ended up settling. They ended up agreeing on $150 a pair. They ended up settling. They ended up agreeing on $150 a pair, with Reebok still noting officially that they don't feel good about the price. So we'll see how this goes.
Speaker 2:I think that is a bit. It kind of to me comes across like a bit arrogant, because, well, you're a name, but you're not Jordan, you're not, you know, and there have been greats before you as well in your league. But you haven't even been in the league for five years. You haven't really done enough to warrant that kind of ego.
Speaker 1:Yeah.
Speaker 2:That's where I'm standing. On that, I mean like I'm not denying she has skills, she has skills, she is a good player. Not denying she has skills, she has skills, she is a good player. But to sit there and and just automatically assume that, oh, because I have instagram followers and I have x amount of followers, they're all going to go pay a thousand dollar for my shoe no, in this economy, you think people have a thousand dollars. You know what?
Speaker 1:I think spend.
Speaker 2:You're just going to spend on some shoes, especially I'm sorry to say it a WNBA player. I mean people don't spend that much for Jordans.
Speaker 1:Well, yeah, and now you have different kinds of Jordans out there as well. So you know what I think? I think New Balance should sign a shoe deal with Paige Becker so we can get Becker's balances.
Speaker 2:Look, man, actually she might have a deal with them. I don't know, I mean that's possible. I mean she's the one that was lighting up the.
Speaker 1:NBA this year, or with Aces shoe company Aces or A6, so we can get. I was going to say A6.
Speaker 1:Well, I wanted to say I wanted to say aces, but I know it's a6, but because of where I was gonna go with it, we're good. Well, yeah, I was gonna say pages aces, but it can still be pages a6. I like it, it's got a ring to it, but anyway. So I thought that was interesting piece of news. Not that I want to talk shit about it, I just wanted to discuss it a little bit back and forth here. And then, you know, and over here on the NBA side, we just have a couple things here. So, dennis Schroeder, you know, nba player. He says being an NBA player is like modern slavery, and I guess what I'm about to say here could probably apply to any professional athlete. Because basically, uh, in short, you know, what he said is they can decide when it comes to being traded. Okay, they can decide. Hey, uh, you know, tomorrow you're not working here, you're going over there, and then you pick up and go. So he said it's a lot like being a slave. I don't know if I necessarily agree with the viewpoint.
Speaker 2:I understand to one extent what he's trying to say, that you really don't have any say over what happens with your career, necessarily as far as where you go. If you have a new trade clause, you do. But let's face it, if you're not the top of the top of the nba, you know, mantle right, you're not going to have a new trade clause. But you know you're being compensated really well to be in the nba and to be any professional athlete and the fact that you're having to deal with being pushed around and moved around and go to different cities and play for different organizations it's part of the course. Like you have to put up with it in order to be part of it, it's what you have to do.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it just comes with the territory. It's not like it's new, it comes with the territory of being a professional athlete. You're a walking, talking sports card, part of a game. And sometimes they trade cards.
Speaker 2:Well, a lot of times you're trading these players around because you're looking to build a team, you're trying to get a team that can compete or you're trying to get return value on your assets. So, if you're a team that's in transition, you're trying to transition your assets into things that make sense.
Speaker 1:Yes.
Speaker 2:But I don't know To me. I understand where he gets the comparison, but it may be just a smidge too far.
Speaker 1:I think it's a tad too far, but maybe you know we don't know the kind of life he lives, but I digress. Okay, now let's talk about, you know, a local hero, or what would have been great, mr Jason Henderson. Mike, what's going on with this guy? He's an All-American. Plays out of ODU, right up the road from us here he's hanging them up.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, it's sad to see. So he recently announced via Twitter or X or however you want to say it, social media To tag. So to give you guys some background on this player, he suffered an injury in 2023 where he tore his ACO, mco, and this is a new one on me, the MPFL and meniscus in his knee. So that's pretty bad.
Speaker 1:That's pretty bad, you said all this happened over two games.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, over two games. He wound up having all this happen to him, but he was trying to come back. And here's the thing Like I saw him play this year, like he played this year, but he's not playing to his level.
Speaker 2:He's not playing to what he's used to doing and not performing the way he's used to. Right and as an athlete, when you're not playing like you have all of your life, it's a reflecting moment. It's kind of like a why can't I do this anymore? Or why can't I do this and not be in pain? You know like it's a whole thing that all athletes have to go through, where they finally face their own sportsman. You know mortality. You know where you're sitting here looking at it like how much longer do I have? Am I going to still be able to play to this level? And it doesn't matter who you are, we're all told, one day we'll all come to a point where we can no longer play.
Speaker 1:Look, no matter what sport it is, nothing lasts forever. Everything must come to an end, including life.
Speaker 2:Very deep conversation there well, what I'm saying is, like you know, for him it probably came a little sooner than he anticipated because, let's face it, this guy, based on his performances, he would have been a high pick. He would have been, he would have been drafted into the nfl. I mean, I don't know about a high pick, but he would have been a high pick, he would have been drafted into the NFL. I don't know about a high pick, but he would have been. Like you know, after the third round, what position did he?
Speaker 2:play again Linebacker. He was a middle linebacker. Yeah, jason Henderson.
Speaker 1:He could have been a late first or early second. Well, depending on his performance level.
Speaker 2:Well, I'm basing it because he played for Old Dominion. If he was playing with Ohio State or Penn State or one of the bigger schools, he might have had a little more jump. But this is more of a day four, or not day four, but a fourth round. Fifth round pick.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I could put him up as high as even a third. But I mean, fourth seems fair, yeah, yeah, but who are we right?
Speaker 2:Yeah, what do we know?
Speaker 1:But you know what's going on down in Bowling Green. They got a new official I guess unofficial mascot. What's this cat's name again? Well, here's the thing.
Speaker 2:Here's the thing you know, in Bowling Green they have a new coach. They have Eddie George, former Titans, running back who should be the spotlight holder for this team, but his spotlight has been kind of pushed over by a cat and the cat's name is Pudge. Pudge, yeah, little cat named pudge. Apparently pudge has become their, their little mascot down there. Uh, pudge is actually owned by their long snapper, george carlson, and you know he just brought him in one day, had him sitting there in his locker and everybody's just coming by saying what's up to pudge. You know he just brought them in one day, had them sitting there in his locker and everybody's just coming by saying what's up to Pudge. You know he just became part of the locker room, so they kind of got a locker room cat Locker room cat.
Speaker 2:But what's funny about it is Eddie George. He's lurched cats, Uh-oh. But, even he look. Even he has been photographed holding and petting the cat. He's taken a liking to the cat being part of the team. So you know it's kind of funny because even some NFL teams have been like how come we didn't come up with this idea for a locker room cat.
Speaker 2:I think that's interesting and, by the way, I hate to cut you off there, but the funny part is he's gotten so much of a lure with college football that he's even in EA Sports college football game. He's literally a card you can get in the game, where he provides one plus toughness for your team if you apply it to your team.
Speaker 1:I think that's incredible and, by the way, all I was going to say, bowling Green's game coming up this week is against Louisville, 12 pm.
Speaker 2:So we'll see.
Speaker 1:That'll be interesting to see how they do there.
Speaker 2:We'll see if they show Pudge on the game Pudge. Be on the lookout for Pudge. Yeah, look out for the kit, the locker room kit.
Speaker 1:Yeah, and speaking of Bowling Green versus Louisville, we have some interesting matchups coming up here for Week 4, and we'll check rankings here in just a minute. This is the first time for me seeing this upcoming week's schedule.
Speaker 2:Well, I'm hearing a lot of things being said about that Texas Tech and Utah game. Utah is looking pretty good, these first few games, yeah, and that should be a really good game on Saturday, september 20th. It'll be on Fox at noon so you can actually catch that game and still do something at the end of the day.
Speaker 1:We'll see how that goes. I'm eager to see how Virginia Tech responds after firing their long time well, not long time, but after firing their recent head coach and their offensive coordinator stepping up with head coaching duties there, Just scrolling down the network.
Speaker 2:Michigan-Nebraska that used to be a pretty good game, although Nebraska's not as good as Michigan is.
Speaker 1:I mean, Michigan's actually ranked and Nebraska isn't, and down here we have NC State-Wolfpack taking on Duke. Yeah, good in-state rivalry there Yep in-state rivalry, that'll be a good game. I think let's see here Illinois, indiana, georgia and Vanderbilt.
Speaker 2:Oh, we got Colorado Wyoming. Yep, that's going to be a very late game.
Speaker 1:Michigan and USC.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1:We'll see how that turns out. We've got a few good matchups here. See how that goes. Let's check rankings real quick.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, we've had some interesting rankings come out here recently with the way that things have shaken out. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 1:What's going on? I don't know. Okay, here we go. This is what we're looking for right here AP's top 25. We'll just start number 10 and go up to number 1. Number 10's Texas A&M sitting there 3-0. Wait, sorry, that's reception, forget that.
Speaker 2:Anyway. So Texas A&M, then we have number nine, illinois, number eight, texas Mighty far drop from number one their preseason ranking. And look at Florida State moving up to number seven, oregon at six, georgia at five, miami Hurricanes at four, lsu at three, penn State at 2, and Ohio State still holding strong at number 1. Look at Penn State go, yes, yes, but I mean, here's one that's a little bit crazy to see.
Speaker 1:Notre Dame, notre Dame Down at 24.
Speaker 2:They are down at 24, and they're still ranked. Now, mind you, this has come with some controversy. You're still ranked when you don't have a win. And you have teams up here that have three wins and you don't even have one, not one. Now, granted, we'll give them a little bit of slack because there were some calls and their last game is a little questionable. But you know, it's called into question whether the people making the rankings they're just kind of handing them the ability to be in there.
Speaker 1:Well, they haven't had a third game yet. It's not recorded here, but maybe that's the only reason they're still on this board. But you know they're falling fast. Where would they even end up? Would they even still be ranked if they went one and two? Because there's teams, like you say, up here with three wins or two wins. Everybody has at least two wins on this board.
Speaker 2:Yeah, I'm not quite sure how you keep a team in with no wins, but it's probably due to a lot, maybe with the amount of well, not amount of the opponents they played. You know, like how they fall into it Because they played yeah, they played the hurricanes right and lost.
Speaker 1:Well, it probably how they played their stats, like how his points and stuff were scored, things like that, and probably how they looked. But that's interesting. Uh, I'm eager to see how week four plays out.
Speaker 2:Yeah, yeah, I mean man, college football is always weird to me, the way that you know well, it's better now it used to be. If you lost one game season's over, you know, you're done, just don't even worry about it. You're not going to be in a national championship game. You lost one game, but now it's kind of built in that with this playoff system you can take a loss but as long as you play well through the season, you're okay.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I mean, look, competent Play, competent football is what I like to say, Speaking of football and competency. You know this is a little bit offbeat for us here, but we're going to dive into it. The XFL used to allow players to put nicknames or phrases on the back of your jerseys or on the back of their jerseys, right, Mike? Yeah, what if the NFL allowed players to substitute their names for a nickname or even a nick phrase, I guess you know, since they used to be, you know like? I remember there was a guy, what was his name? Mean Machine, yeah, and he Hate Me. Yeah, and he hate me, yeah, and he hate me. So what kind of things do we think we would see? And I don't even like this idea, to be honest with you.
Speaker 2:Hey, if the players could do it, I'm sure they would come up with some nicknames. I mean like, for instance, tyreek Hill. He'd probably want Cheetah on the back of his.
Speaker 1:Well, and, mind you, by the way, for those of you who are, you know, recently born, we're talking about the version of XFL that was owned by Vince McMahon, former owner now of the WWE, and it was designed more around entertainment than actual football. So, in my opinion, doing something like this takes away from the professionalism of the game.
Speaker 2:Hey. I'm just saying like if some players could have any game.
Speaker 1:I think it is interesting Tyreek Hill would have Cheetah yeah 100%.
Speaker 2:You know, maybe Micah Parsons would have Pay me. I'm a big I'm a big fan of jake ferguson getting fergalicious that's the only reason you would want him to have anything, so it could be fergal I'm.
Speaker 1:I'm a big fan of ferguson getting fergalicious on his jersey. What else do you think we'd see? What would Aaron Rodgers be Old timer?
Speaker 2:No, he wouldn't go for that He'd go for something like Miss my Darkness yeah, or Double Check from the discount, double Check days oh man, that's taking it back. Yeah, I don't think he wants to do that.
Speaker 1:We're really taking it back, he wouldn't get paid for it, he wouldn't get paid for it. How about if we take it back a little bit, John Riggins?
Speaker 2:Oh, come on, man, your Homer card is playing Diesel. You're putting that Homer card out there.
Speaker 1:Going John Riggins came out first.
Speaker 2:Well, I know what would happen if they had it back in the day. If I'm going to play my homework card, montana would just have Joe Cool, joe Cool, that's what he was. He was Joe Cool. I mean, let's face it, players, they have their own personalities and if they could put nicknames on their jersey, the personality would come out. They'd come up with some cool stuff. I mean, there'd be some stories behind it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, it's an interesting take, I think and speaking of other interesting takes, way to lose your cool, Remember I was talking about earlier. You lose your cool, you lose judgment. Yes, I know this is a little bit dated news as well. But Jalen Carter he only ended up missing game two. He was suspended for one game for spitting on Dak Prescott, because inevitably, I mean he thought Dak Prescott spit on him.
Speaker 2:Well, I remember seeing an interview where they asked about this and the defense was I thought he was trying to spit at me and he had said something and it's like well, wait a second, you're already in the wrong, because they're five yards back from the ball. The ball is already set. You're standing on the other side of the ball near their huddle and Dak Prescott is just spinning in between his linemen at the ground. Okay, now, granted, dak jawed back at him and walked up to him, and if you got somebody who's already heated at you, you probably don't want to piss him off more well, it's even more funny because, okay, first of all, dak's the quarterback, they're going to talk, they have things to say at the line of scrimmage, okay.
Speaker 1:But it's just interesting to me because even Dak was talking about it in his post-game interview. He was like, oh okay, cool, we're going to get 15 yards. Even he was surprised that he got ejected. He was like oh okay, cool, we're going to get 15 yards. Even he was surprised that he got ejected.
Speaker 2:He's like oh, I didn't know he was getting ejected and this is before the game even started.
Speaker 1:This is before the game even started, but I think they would have rather have this over what Geno Smith did to start his game.
Speaker 2:Well, here's the thing, though. This situation it kind of worked itself out because they were talking about oh, do they suspend him another game? Well, technically, he never even played a game because the snap never happened, right. So you kick him out before the game started and he already missed a game, check man, because he didn't play. He didn't play at all. Yeah, so I mean, they find him and things have been settled out. It's just like what a way to start off the season. You know it's a bad look, because everybody was watching that game.
Speaker 1:Speaking of bad looks, Mike, by the way, our next subject is playing right now Miami and the Bills. It's all in front of us happening as we speak. What in the world is going on in miami, bro? They are. They don't look good at all and I mean they kind of you could see the. You could see the skid start last season. You could kind of start to see the skid go the wrong direction.
Speaker 2:But yeah, you had you Hill saying I want out, see y'all later. He was ready to go, he's still there. He didn't get his wish of being pushed out of there. What do?
Speaker 1:you think has happened here with this organization, Because at one point they look like they're just on an upward trajectory.
Speaker 2:Look, I know it seemed like they had figured something out when Mike McDaniels first got there and they were blowing out the Broncos with a 70-point win over the Broncos a few years ago. But that's not the team they are now. So it's a bit different. And even their reporters have kind of started to turn, because one of the reporters asked to uh, why does it seem like your, your interceptions come in bunches, like you throw one and it seems like you throw three because he's got like four concussions probably well, here's the thing.
Speaker 2:He tried to play it off, like what are you talking about? And the reporter's like well, in this game you threw three picks. In this game, you threw three picks. In this game you threw three picks Like he had notes, he had receipts. He was like it's all, here, you throw picks in bunches. And he was like oh, I don't know about that. I think the concussions are getting to him, man.
Speaker 1:I think the concussions are having their effect. I think he should have called it a career. Even if you didn't do it after the first one, after you got the second one, maybe start thinking about it, right, like, start thinking about your long-term health, okay. So I think that that, honestly, is probably part of it. They're not going to talk about it, though, well, not in length, but I mean the other thing is, you know, I don't know what's going on with this offense. Their defense seems to be playing relatively decent at least, if not middle of the pack, but if they replace McDaniels as head coach, who do you think is in line to take a crack at that?
Speaker 2:I don't know. We have to see how it shakes out with the coordinators and stuff this offseason. Yeah, and I got a better question for you. Okay, given the fact that Miami is playing Buffalo buffalo and mike mike mcdaniels is on the hot seat, and some would say that the giants and their coach is on the hot seat and they're playing the chiefs this week being that both these coaches have some pretty tough matchups this week and both of them might be on the hot seat- Honestly If you had to be one or the other.
Speaker 2:Which one would you want to be?
Speaker 1:I'm just going to tell you right now I've never been a fan of Mike Dable. I don't understand how he came into that position.
Speaker 2:Well, you know how he got that position? Because he was with the Bills and he helped Josh Allen Key point they're playing tonight. He helped Josh Allen kind of turn things around from being, you know, kind of a I don't know about this quarterback to what Josh Allen is now.
Speaker 1:It just does not inspire head coach vibes to me. But again I digress.
Speaker 2:Well, that's probably because he's in your division. You might feel a bit different if he wasn't a Giants coach and you say who was the other option? Or Mike McDaniels? If you had to be one of them or you had to guess which one of them is closer to being on the outs, which one would you say?
Speaker 1:I think Mike McDaniels is the closer one to being on the outs. To be honest with you, I think so too.
Speaker 2:I think his seat is very hot. I know the owner came out and said he doesn't really want him to be. You know, let go midseason and do like the interim coach thing.
Speaker 1:Oh, if, your owner is saying things like that, then he's already decided all right, if it don't look good by this date, he's got to go. The fact that you're not even going to get to finish the season is tough itself, oh man. But you know, I think that's interesting. And speaking of you know, interesting, interesting down here. And we know this is slightly older news too. Jj McCarthy is now injured, but he did accomplish something in his first NFL start. Okay, something that hadn't been seen in 75 years, mike. Oh, what's that? Well, I'm going to tell you as soon as my notes load, as my notes load Basically per NFL researcher Dante Kaplowitz-Fleming sorry, that's the best I got. Bro McCarthy became the first starting quarterback to record a comeback of 10 points or greater in his first NFL start since Steve Young did so in 1985. Furthermore, he is the first since 1950 to do it on the road.
Speaker 2:And what team was Steve Young playing for when he did that comeback? I'll give you a hint it wasn't the 49ers. Ooh, it was Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 1:Ooh, it was Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Speaker 2:And those creamsicle unicorns the creamsicles.
Speaker 1:I like those.
Speaker 2:You mentioned that McCarthy is out. Yeah, so their backup quarterback happens to be Carson Wentz. Yeah boy, so you're a little familiar with Carson Wentz. Yeah boy, so you're a little familiar with Carson Wentz. Not willingly so, Carson Wentz is going.
Speaker 2:Good lord, sir Carson Wentz is actually going to have a unique situation here, because Carson Wentz has started for six different teams. When he starts for the Vikings this season, in consecutive years he was with the Eagles right Goes from the Eagles to the Colts, then from the Colts to your team, the Commanders In a horrible trade.
Speaker 1:Hey, y'all did it anyway, they're the only team to date to trade for him. Anyway, continue with your stats.
Speaker 2:So then he goes to the Rams, then from the Rams to the Chiefs last year, and now with the Vikings, and he grew up a Vikings fan because he's from North Dakota.
Speaker 1:Well, maybe he pulls the Danny Dimes and starts dropping some dimes.
Speaker 2:Hey, when you got Justin Jefferson and your quarterback, you got to feel pretty good about that.
Speaker 1:Yeah, speaking of Mr. Justin Jefferson Speaking of Justin Jefferson. Mike, I'll let you run with this one.
Speaker 2:No, go ahead, you got it.
Speaker 1:You're much more familiar than I am, but I'll pull it up anyway. All right, justin Jefferson has a cool gift or had a cool gift for a fan after their big win versus the Bears. By the way, I don't think you know well, this was obviously a couple weeks ago, so it's a little bit older.
Speaker 2:Yeah, but it's still a good story and we're going to tell it.
Speaker 1:Yeah, this was back when they were on Monday Night Football Following the Vikes comeback win over Chicago. We saw Jefferson himself haul in a touchdown and some other minor stats. He made his way over to the stands at Soldier Field by the way, enemy territory. He gifted a young fan a SportsCenter Top 10 chain, you know. So I thought that was pretty cool. Here we go.
Speaker 2:He gifted a chain to a kid, yeah.
Speaker 1:Are you going to play the video?
Speaker 2:No, no, I'm not going to play the video because it's just a bunch of fans speak.
Speaker 1:Yeah, he pretty much made this kid's night. You know, gave his chain to the kid they always wear. So I thought that was pretty cool. Man, anytime you do something like that, it's always a good thing to be part of and to just witness. And you know, we talked about Carson Wentz and you know momentarily about Danny Dimes or sorry, daniel Jones making slight comebacks. But I saw this meme about comebacks right, everybody knows Baker Mayfield is lighting it up as a QB1 in Tampa right now. Has them playoff ready, okay, playoff competitive. So I saw this meme and I thought it was rather accurate as much as it was funny. It said, uh, it will never not be funny when baker is referred to as a comeback story and the thing he came back from. The thing he came back from was being a cleveland brown, a Cleveland Brown.
Speaker 1:Poor Browns, they just can't get right, yeah, Because really that's all it was. Is he just had a bad run with?
Speaker 2:the Browns. And speaking of, can't get rights. Antonio Brown recently filed for Chapter 11.
Speaker 1:I mean, are we surprised by this? He's actually leaving the country, or left the country.
Speaker 2:Yeah, you know. Well, that was that whole people trying to rob him. He shot him.
Speaker 1:Situation yeah he's trying to avoid attempted murder charges right now. Fucking so bad to say it doesn't even sound good to talk about. I don't want to talk about this.
Speaker 2:From Can't Get Right to what. What were you thinking? Is this next segment? Uh, what were you thinking? Kyler murray? Kyler murray recently posted a picture of him with his dog. Now you would say, why is that a mistake? Well, kyler murray has a pit bull, actually has two pitbulls, and unfortunately, when he took this picture he was wearing his Virginia Tech Mike Vick jersey. Not thinking about it until all the backlash started, he suddenly realized that everybody's like, bro, really A Mike Vick jersey with your pitbull. And it probably dawned on him that that was a dumb move, because the apology instantly started like I did not mean to that. I'm sorry, I shouldn't have done this.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I, I get the optics of it not good um mike vick, by the way off to a rough start in his first um season as a head coach. Down in norfolk state I believe they're 0-3 right now to open the season Yikes. But you know that, aside, optics not looking good, not a good message to send, no.
Speaker 2:Regardless of how you feel about Michael Vick. Well, speaking of bad optics, what about Tom Brady being part owner of the Raiders and seeing him inside the play calling booth when he's also a Fox announcer?
Speaker 1:Well, is this a conflict of interest or not?
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, you've got to think about it. Media members get access to things that most people do not. They get to talk to players of the other team. They get to talk to players of the other team. They get to talk to the coaches of other teams. They get to see some practice.
Speaker 1:I mean, it's not like he's feeding information to anybody, and I honestly don't see a correlation between the two Like sitting in your home team's box, which you're the owner of, with a headset on. I think you're more micr with a headset on and I think you're more micromanaging the team than you are doing anything. But being a sports announcer at the same time like I don't me personally I don't see anything wrong with this.
Speaker 2:Well, I would say that there are some things about it that might be a little just a little bit odd and might be a little bad Enlightenment Having okay, normally, an owner does not have access to coaches and players of other teams, like they're not really talking to those people, right? So by having the ability to talk to some of these coaches on other teams, coordinators or whatnot, it almost gives him an unfair advantage to kind of pre-interview people they may want to bring on to their staff. Or look into having a player who's coming up on free agency and bring them into the facility and possibly poach players. So there's that aspect of it. You do have a bit of a conflict of interest there, well, but when they started saying stuff like well, he could feed plays from other teams to his team, well, I don't. Why don't you see that correlation, though? Why don't you just feed him bullshit?
Speaker 1:you could feed plays from other teams to his team.
Speaker 2:Well, I don't see that correlation though, why don't you just feed him bullshit? You don't have to tell him the truth, just feed him lies, say yeah, you know we're going to be run heavy and go light it up, passing all over him. You don't have to be realistic. You tell people what you want to tell them as a coach, as a player, as far as what you're going to do on Sunday. You don't have to tell them the truth.
Speaker 1:I mean, I don't see a problem with it. I don't think that he's being as sinister as people want to make it seem like.
Speaker 2:No, I think it is a bit overblown, but there are some aspects of it that, if you're really thinking about it, there is a little bit of a leg up with it a little bit. It's not saying that it's like oh, it's, everything's fine, there's no problem. I'm just saying like, is there points where you can take advantage just a little bit? Yes, because you get a little bit of access you don't get, because they don't have to ask for permission to talk to these coaches. Yeah, you know, he just goes and talks to them, whereas if you're another team and you want to interview somebody from another organization, you have to ask for permission unless they have been let go. Yeah, unless they have been let go yeah. So you're kind of getting a little bit of a head start on people. If there's somebody you like, we want to bring this guy in.
Speaker 2:Well, I mean, it's just the Raiders, it's not like he's going into the other teams you know boosts and listening to their headsets that we know of. I don't think he's doing it. I think the bad optics come from the fact that he was with the Patriots during Spygate and during all the stuff they were supposedly or were doing People love to hate. Look it's Brady.
Speaker 1:Everybody hates on Brady People love to hate, especially Brady. Okay, the more successful you are, the more haters you're probably going to have. Okay.
Speaker 2:You know what I'd also point out?
Speaker 1:What.
Speaker 2:For all this, it didn't help him not see his Raiders throw a pick on their very first play last game where Geno very first play of the game boop pick. He had three picks last game so it didn't help him that much.
Speaker 1:No, but I'll tell you who is out there helping much Snoop Dogg. This guy continues to do things. He's been doing it for years. He's been doing it for years, but I love when you hear about these things. So he has a youth football league that he owns and runs. Well, people probably run it for him now, but he said and this is his quote I got zero Grammy wins, but I got 40 kids in the NFL.
Speaker 2:I'll take that over Grammys and he said he wouldn't give it back for anything. Well, and he's been nominated 10 times for a Grammy.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So I mean, and there's some of these notable players CJ Stroud, romeo Dubs, you know, Smith schuster, you know ronnie hillman, d anthony thomas, some of these guys very notable players as well. Uh, I don't have the full list, I tried to get it, but you know, we got, we got a handful of them here, but either way, like I think that's, that's incredible, honestly, um, things like that make me want to go into coaching.
Speaker 2:Well, I like it because his league has really stood up on the fact that we want to get kids that are in not great situations, like they live kind of below the poverty line. They get to play, because playing sports it's expensive. You've got to get cleats, you've got to get pads, you've got to get helmets for football at least You've got to get the gear to be able to play. They just kind of, you know, just come play, you want to play, you can come play, and they help provide all that stuff so the kids can just come be kids, play some football, and speaking of making it in the NFL.
Speaker 1:I know this story is rather old, but I figure, since the NFL season's getting off just now, getting started off, we go ahead and bring this up again. Justin Fields was diagnosed with epilepsy in ninth grade after suffering a seizure during a health class which is kind of ironic, honestly and so he's gone through quite a bit to try to make it work for his football career, right through high school, through college and then getting drafted. So, um november 30th 2022, uh, is when this originally was first talked about. So just a few years ago it came on National Epilepsy Awareness Month, which that would be November. Again and again, he was diagnosed back in ninth grade. So just to be able to manage something like that and still make it at the level that he's playing it at now, I think is incredible.
Speaker 2:Yeah Well, if he doesn't go play this weekend, a local player from here, Tyrod Taylor.
Speaker 1:Tyrod Taylor, one of our favorites.
Speaker 2:He'll be filling in for him because he's got to get past concussion protocol.
Speaker 1:Yeah. So, speaking of this weekend, we have Buffalo and the Dolphins on right now, which Buffalo's up 14-7 at this moment, as we speak in the second quarter. Who else we got coming up and jumping right on into week three? We won't worry about week two, since we missed week two. I was under the weather by the way.
Speaker 2:Well, but here's something before we jumped into that we do have a very odd number of quarterbacks that are down already Five, yeah, most notable, joe Burrow. He was going to be out for quite a while with his turf toe injury that he needs surgery on.
Speaker 1:Burrow's out, purdy's out, jaden Daniels is probably going to be out Because he's got a sprained knee, jj McCarthy's down and then Justin Fields.
Speaker 2:Yeah. Five starting quarterbacks, five starting quarterbacks in the NFL Already out. We're not even, we're just getting to week three.
Speaker 1:You know, and I'm sure, there's other players banged up that we just don't know about. Yeah, I mean, and you know, honestly and I'm gonna talk a little bit about my home team for a second like I would just let daniels rest at this point, it's early in the season put mariotta in yeah, I mean, it's not like he wasn't a starter in the nfl at one point yeah, and you're taking on the raiders.
Speaker 1:you know the weight on the defense. Let them handle it. And the same thing with these other guys. What's his name? Downing? Is it Josh Downing? What's his first name? Who? Who plays Burrow Browning? Sorry, Jake Browning.
Speaker 2:Yeah.
Speaker 1:Yeah, jake Browning, he's Browning. Yeah, yeah, jake Browning he's still had a relatively good game. He can fill in for Burrow as needed. Y'all got Mac Jones going in, so hey.
Speaker 2:Mac Jones looked pretty decent against the Saints.
Speaker 1:Well, if he looks decent and continues to look decent, that's all that matters. Who's replacing Justin Fields with the Jets? Do you know?
Speaker 2:I just told you, Tyrod Taylor.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, that's right, tyrod Taylor, I forgot about that. Sorry, I have a tendency to forget things fast. Well, here we go. This seems to be another divisional matchup weekend for some of these teams. You pick a matchup and I'll pick a matchup. We got some good ones this week. Okay, we can't pick our own team.
Speaker 2:Oh, you're going to put that label on it.
Speaker 1:Huh Going to put that label on it. Look, I think honestly you're probably going to destroy the Cardinals, but we'll see how it goes.
Speaker 2:I want to see the playoff rematch of the Rams and Eagles. That's the one I want to see Because, let's not forget, it took a snowstorm for the Eagles to get past the Rams. Damn, it's true. I mean they were taking it to them, but that snow slowed them down.
Speaker 1:It did. I got two picks here, but my number one pick I want to see this Bears team take on this Cowboys team. The Bears are playing relatively competent football. They just keep getting stomped the fuck out. Excuse my language.
Speaker 2:I was going to say how can you say it's competent when you lost by like 50 points?
Speaker 1:basically, I mean the Lions, obviously just reestablishing that they're better off without Ben Johnson.
Speaker 2:I think that was a hold my beer. We're going to go stomp this dude out. That was personal.
Speaker 1:That was a personal win. Especially after how the Cowboys played the Giants last week. I don't know if that was a clash of two Titans or if that was two bad teams playing a good game, but I do want to see that matchup. And the other matchup matchup 1B I'm looking forward to is the Texans and the Jaguars. I think this is a trap game, I would say, for the Texans, but they're 0-2 right now. I actually had the Texans to win this game, but I have it being a trap game for the Texans, sir.
Speaker 2:I'm a little more interested in seeing this Sunday night game, where Nobody cares no listen, listen. It's odd to say that there are two teams playing on Sunday night that are both 0-2, and one of those teams being the Chiefs. It has not happened in a while that the Chiefs start off 0-2. You're right about that.
Speaker 1:We have not seen two 0-2 teams.
Speaker 2:Wouldn't it be crazy if the Giants pulled off a win and sent them?
Speaker 1:to 0-3? Listen, don't put that evil over here.
Speaker 2:Look.
Speaker 1:I'm just saying Even more.
Speaker 2:Crazy things happen.
Speaker 1:Well, you're right about that, and 0-2 versus 0-2 is just good, but we have a one and one versus a one and one with the lions and the ravens actually who you think's taking that game?
Speaker 2:uh, ravens, I think it's going to be the ravens. The ravens beat them down last year, so, yeah, a pretty good chance they're going to do it again I think it's going to be the ravens as well.
Speaker 1:It's my second, one of my second teams. I'm interested. I mean there's a lot of good matchups the Chargers and the Broncos, you know two. Well, justin Herbert's not really a young quarterback anymore.
Speaker 2:Well, we talked about the quarterbacks being out. Two of them are going to go against each other this week because the Bengals and Vikings are playing each other, so you're getting the two backup quarterbacks going against one another Battle of the backups In the Vikings stadium.
Speaker 1:Battle of the backups.
Speaker 2:That's what that is, I'm honestly thinking that Carson Wentz is going to look good and perform well with this team, I'm thinking at least three interceptions. You do know that Aaron Jones is out. Yes, they're running back, so now they're going to have Mason as their starting back.
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'm thinking. At least three interceptions for Carson Wentz.
Speaker 2:Look at you still salty for Carson Wentz being on your team.
Speaker 1:One of them being a pick six this guy holds a grudge. Holds a grudge, Knows how to hold a grudge. But you know, I think that we've got some interesting matchups coming up here for week three and we've had some rather good conversation about it tonight. Mike, what do you say?
Speaker 1:Yeah, I'd say we've had a pretty good little debate here and there, yeah and you know, before we close this out, one last time I want to thank our sponsors and partners Body by D, jim Solace Outfitters and the Giving Tree Chiropractic Service. Thank you everybody once again for joining us for another week of sports talk. I hope you enjoyed it and I hope to see you next week. Feel free to find us on social media.
