Alright, so I don't know if anybody collects cards or collects anything that can possibly have value. Or maybe you've been that person that comes across something and it's like the golden ticket. It's like Willy Wonka. You open that chocolate and you see the golden ticket. I don't need chocolate, Mike. Well, so golden ticket-wise, we had a golden ticket happen here in in the world of baseball, more so in the card collecting community. Uh, there was a particular card that was out there for anybody to get a one of one. And if you got it, it's a payday. Because this particular card was a Shoei Otani double MLB emblem. Like a payday bar, like the bar. No, like a card, like a trading card. Oh my bad. So this was a Shoe Otani card with a double emblem on it, and this card just sold at auction for $11 million. Wow. 11 million. Now imagine that. You just open a pack, bam, you just made yourself eleven million dollars.

Scooter Clause And Baseball Fails

So Harrison Bader had a left foot injury already, and he was you know working himself back up, trying to get back to playing on the field, and just being a dummy on a scooter, gets into an accident and now has reset his timeline where he's not gonna be able to be on the field for even longer because he re-hurt himself. So the Giants are just like, alright, see this clause right here on our on our agreement with you? Hey, it says if you do something stupid, we don't have to pay you.

Trade Deadline Undercard Deals

So moving over into the trade deadline, and we will get to the biggest trade piece, but I want to talk about a couple of these lower trades that happened that were kind of an interesting little scenario between the floor. Low hanging fruit, y'all. So what happened? This happened early on in the trade, you know, down to the deadline moment. I think it happened on Friday. But the the twins acquired the veteran starter uh Kramer from the Orioles. Seinfeld? No. Oh no. Anyway, they acquired him, and it was a very, you know, under the radar kind of move, but you know, adding a veteran arm and a starting pitcher at a crucial point in the season is a good thing, which a couple of teams kind of questionable what they did and what they didn't do. We'll get to that. But another case in point of another move that was kind of under the radar, but not really. The Rays acquired two time a two-time Cy Young Award winner, or no, two-time All-Star, sorry. Uh I was about to say that's somebody else. No, that's the other person we're gonna talk about. We'll get there. But they acquired Peralta from the Mets, which the Mets weren't doing anything with him, and he wasn't really doing anything for the Mets. So the Mets are like, yeah, please, please take this guy off our hands. He's gonna be a free agent next year anyway. So watch you watch. He's gonna go down there. Now that he's out of playing with the Mets, he's gonna flourish. He's gonna go down there, play with the Rays, and he's gonna just be his old self like he was with the Brewers. He's gonna just sit there and be tearing it up, being an all-star again, and the Mets are gonna be like, What the hell? What did we do wrong? Which is a lot of things. You spend all that money and don't get wins. Pretty sad.

Now, that the last name should sound familiar for Mets fans because they had a player back in the day who was a former Tide, by the way, Benny Ogbayani. And Benny Ogbayani was actually the first player I got a foul ball from at a baseball game. And his son is Brewer Bruin Ogbayani, who is now in the Mets farm system. So it's kind of cool, you know? Like father, like son. You know, father played for the Mets, now his son's playing for the Mets. We'll see if he has a good career or not. I mean, his father had a alright career. You know, most people remember Benny Ogbion as the guy that fouled the ball off his off his junk, but hey.

But the topic of De jour, the one that has everybody in arms, is what another team in the Central did in the Detroit Tigers, who right now are four and a half games out. They were only two out at the all-star break. But they went ahead and traded Terrace Skooble. We kind of no surprise everybody was leaning towards this was going to happen. But the manner in which it did happen has everybody pissed off. Pissed off the one team, the one team that nobody wanted him to go to, the Dodgers. And where did he go? The Dodgers. The Dodgers. The Dodgers. I love Dodgers chicken, by the way. Okay.

You're never gonna do a deal with Scott Boris, it's just not gonna happen. That's right. Because you're not gonna give the money. Yep. The ravines, nope. But with this move, with this move, people are saying, are the Dodgers ruining baseball? And to them, I say it's not so much that they're ruining baseball as much as baseball needs to take a real good look at themselves and come to a realization that, hey, owners, the Dodgers put more money, revenue back into their team than any other team. I'm reminded of a Michael Jones. The rest of the teams in the league put less than half their earnings back into the team. So your Pittsburgh Pirates, your Kansas City Royals, your athletics, especially the athletics, they don't put anything back into their team, and that's why they're no longer in Oakland. They're not gonna be able to get the big free stream out of Oakland. They're the non-thetics. What you got?

Terrence Scuble has now become my most hated player in baseball. And the reason being, he gets there to the Dodgers after he crocodile tiered his way out of Detroit and then goes, I don't understand why fans are upset. You know, people need to stop being so sensitive. You know, anybody could have made this deal. Sensitive. You put your thumb on the scale and said, trade me to this team, and that's what they did. And the package you got sent to the Detroit Tigers was less than what other teams like the Brewers were offering. So don't sit here and tell me that a team that is stacked in a payroll and can sit here and give up prospects because, oh, I don't know, your entire team is an all-star team can afford to give up their prospects because they don't need them. You're sitting here telling me that, oh, other teams could sell their farm system to get you. Come on, please. But somebody said they were angry with the Cubs, and I don't know why, because they got themselves Kevin Gossman from from the Blue Jays, and Kevin Gossman's been a pretty solid starter and has shown recently that he can do some stuff in the playoffs. So Kevin Gossman, a good starting pitcher, goes to the Cubs for prospects.

Oddly enough, uh there was a move by the Cubs where they picked up two players that haven't really gotten talked about very much. They picked up Clay Holmes and uh Tyrone Taylor, an outfielder, from from the Mets who were selling the farm, and all they did was just send him a prospect infielder. And I like this move because Clay Holmes, when he's on, he is a ground ball hitter or ground ball getter, and you can't do much better than the infield of the Cubs right now, with the way Dansby Swanson and Horner are playing. So they they are definitely getting a great set of players for not much. They didn't give up much to get them, and they're they're gonna need them down the stretch. And not only did they do that, but they also picked up a reliever, and I want to get the name right. Let me find it.

And they pick themselves up a flamethrower to come out of that pin and give them some support in their pin come this postseason, and I think that's a really good pickup because he's a really low-key arm with that will have big payoffs for them in the postseason. So I'd like that move. And more so the team I like, I like what the what the uh Indians were doing. Yeah, they were making some low-key moves here and there. They went ahead and called up called up the uh nationals, and they got themselves Foster Griffin, the all-star pitcher for them this year. He's already got 12 wins on the year, but they gave up a few prospects in the deal, you know, gave up a pitch like two or three pitchers and an outfielder. So for the for the nationals, they made out good. They're getting some good prospects for a player that really was only there on a one-year deal. The Nationals were trying to get him signed, trying to get a deal worked, and when they found out it wasn't gonna be a thing, alright, we're gonna move you then. If you're not gonna sign with us, cool, we'll move you. So they moved him over to the Guardians. But the Guardians weren't done there, they went up and picked up Joe Adele of the Angels. Joe Adele, we've talked about him a bunch on this show. He's been on here for highlights and lowlights. Remember, he had that ball that bounced off his head for a home run. Little nod to Jose Conseco or Bose Mosteco.

But uh for the Brewers who they needed some starting pitching and they were trying, they were in on the scoopable deal, but they just couldn't make it happen. They went ahead and went in in their own division, said, Hey, Cardinals, will you trade us Dustin May and Jojo Romeo? They said sure. Or Romeo, I should say. And uh they did. So they got themselves a starting pitcher and a reliever, a pretty good reliever, for their push. I mean, albeit it wasn't Scoobyl, they really wanted to get him. Pretty, pretty decent, you know. Pretty decent move if you didn't have much to go on. Not bad. You know. I'm I'm disappointed in what my Braves did, because all they did was trade for they did a couple of trades that were just like, what were you doing? Why? Why did we do this? So they traded for Lane Thomas and Bailey Falter from the Royals early on on August 1st, and all they really gave up nothing but prospects for that. So, okay, we needed a guy that was good good left-handed bat, you know, good or good batting against left-handers. So I get that. They'll probably platoon him and uh Yustremsky there in left field. So okay, I get that move. So knowing that we need starting pitching, the Braves go and get Taylor Malin from the Giants for Anthony Molina, a minor league pitcher, but Tyler is a back of the rotation starter, and what we needed was somebody to help fortify a playoff push kind of rotation, and that's not what we did. You you're getting a guy who is a fourth or fifth pitcher in a five-man rotation. What is that? You know, I mean, I know they tried to go ahead and go after Scoobyl, which was another another reason that it didn't work out, because one the Tigers were standing pat that they wanted our top prospects out of the farm system, and that wasn't going to happen. So we tried to go and talk to the Rangers about getting to Grome from from the Rangers, and the Rangers asked DeGrome if he'd waive his no trade clause, and he said no. So they failed twice to get some frontline starters, and it just didn't work. And I know you're thinking, why didn't they go after Nathan Navaldi? Well, guess what? He has a no trade clause too, and guess what? He said no. So, yeah, not really a great scenario there. And I'm just really aggravated by the way that baseball is trying to say, you know, it's no big deal. It's no big deal that the Dodgers are picking up these players. It's no big deal. Well, there's it is a big deal. Well, they don't have a salary cap, do they? No, and I don't think that a salary cap necessarily would be the answer. I don't necessarily think that a salary floor would be the answer, because a salary floor would mean that teams would have to spend up to a certain dollar amount in order to be within the window from being penalized. But that would just mean you're gonna pay players that are not worth the money. So you're gonna give extra money to bad players.

So the thing is you you want to retain the good talent. How many times have we seen players like a Scoopol be on a team like the Tigers and then suddenly wind up with the Dodgers or the Yankees or one of the teams that can pay them huge bucks? I mean, keep your eyes on Paul Skeens. I know he's not doing as great down these last few starts, but he's probably gonna be the next guy that gets a big contract somewhere else. He's probably not gonna stay with the Pirates. And it's probably gonna wind up being the Dodgers. I hate to say it. But what we have is a fundamental problem between the owners not wanting to fork over money, and then teams not willing to put money into the right things, such as recruiting, such as scouting, such as, you know, development in the minor leagues. We have a fundamental problem where players in the minor leagues are not getting what they need. We literally have had players go from being on in other farm systems over to the Dodgers than to be traded by the Dodgers for big name players because they trained them up and made them better picks. Now, that's not to say the Dodgers haven't made some mistakes over the years. A little player over at the Astros, Jordan Alvarez, was a Dodger. As scary as that is, one of the best hitters who's going for a triple crown this year in baseball used to be a Dodger. Right. He was in their system, but they traded him away for a reliever. For the Astro fans, they're gotta be like, thank goodness we have him. Because he's the best player on their team. But this is turning into a situation where there's no easy answer to fix it. There's no easy answer to fix baseball. Really, what we gotta enjoy at the very fundamental of it is just hope that your team can put a good product on the field and at least make a push for the postseason. Well, I bet Dodgers fans are loving it.

So ROI is thin sometimes, but I gotta give it to the Dodgers because they've found a way to continue to win. All these they could have acquired all these players and they could have not worked out. As you see by the Mets. Yeah, the Mets aren't working out for them right now.

The AL West is being led by those Astros who picked up an outfitter they needed from the Blue Jays and Var. Astros and the Rangers atop of the AL West, actually. Well, right now it's the Astros leading a 59 and 59 and 57. So it's a tight race.

Just kidding he said hello anyway uh real quick there's a couple things we're gonna talk to you about before we jump into football my friend uh you guys just had a huge event this past weekend uh Mid-Atlantic Territory Wrestling's uh Chuck Coates Memorial Tag Team tournament uh that was a very huge success can you tell me what that experience was like well Chuck was a personal friend of mine um you know and he he passed away last year I was actually the last guy that wrestled him uh heart issue the guy that beat cancer three times uh we always I always had this idea I wanted to recreate a tournament that happened in the early 90s called the Pat O'Connor Memorial Tag Team Tournament and they brought in teams from like all over the world there was like a Russian team and a Japanese team and a South African team and I thought that was the coolest thing when I was you know when I was a teenager watching that and um I wanted to do something like that and and Chuck who was one of the Russian assassins he was like oh please let you know please let me come as one of the Russian assassins I can't I'd love to do that or represent Russia and he passed away so I vowed that I would do that tournament in his name and that that's where the idea came from I think that's incredible.

Um sorry I didn't mean to cut you off no no no no no uh so basically that's that's where it's that that's where the roots of it came from and it got named after him because he was probably the the next the next person that was the most excited next to me to do it. So I I that's that's where that came from uh Chuck wasn't a tremendous wrestler across the mid-Atlantic and uh was loved by everybody. So that that's where it came from and then we decided that so we had teams from all over Canadian you had a team a Canadian team and then you had teams from all over the country literally I mean it wasn't a gimmick it was we had guys from all over the place come in and 12 teams 11 tag team matches one singles match and I've never been a part of a show where all 11 tag team matches were unique. They were all different because tag team there's kind of you know repet repetition there. Right all of these came off very different these everybody that was there was so good just so professional and the way that it looked when you see the pictures online or you watch it because we're going to release it in four episodes on YouTube soon um just the lighting and the way the dark arena was and and and the lights coming down just on the ring and that old fight feel to it. And then you got Arn Anderson there and CW and Brock uh CW Anderson and and Brock uh Arn's son that looks just like him there. And Arn looks at the setup and he says my God I've you know I've stepped into a time warp. And and that just you know that's what we aimed for.

Now, that's not that's not necessarily his fault. It's what he did in college. Well, guess what? You can't do the same things that you did in college in the NFL. You can't sit there and play hero ball in the NFL. More times I did not. You see these big time quarterbacks like Tom Brady and uh uh dangerous. Aaron Rodgers, Aaron Rodgers, they know when to throw the ball away. Live for another down, throw it away, we'll get to the next down. Or you know what? This series is dead. We don't have it, throw it away, live for the next next play. Instead of, oh, pick six. You know, like that's a that's a learning curve that some players never get to.

Will we ever see the pendulum swing back and we start seeing cerebral quarterbacks again throwing from the pocket and dissecting defenses versus these guys doing one read and taking off running? Are we doomed to that style of low IQ quarterback play for the rest of our lives?

So now we're at second and six instead of being at you know, second and ten. So are those quarterbacks outliers? I could see our position. He went to two different teams and re-reevaluated his career and reassessed his career and got to a point where now he is a Super Bowl champ. Now, think about that for a second. Think about when he was drafted. He was not number one. That was Baker Mayfield. Well, he doesn't have a Super Bowl win. Josh Allen drafted in that same same draft class. Yeah, he doesn't have a Super Bowl win. And oh, who was that one drafted by the Cardinals? It was like nine teams made a mistake by not drafting me, and now he's not even in the league. Josh Rosen. Josh Rosen, there you go. I love to I love to make fun of that guy. He's not even in the league now. He's like, oh, they made a mistake. Yeah, apparently not. I I don't know necessarily what Ryan Clark's boxing prowess is, but I'm pretty sure he could hold his own again against Logan, or in this case, not Logan Paul, Jake Paul. And for those who don't know, this is actually a retouch-up to the injury he already had. He was having some knee pain off of the surgery he had already dealt with, the injury he had already dealt with.

So it's kind of a kind of a good deal, to be honest, because he's gonna be able to provide two things for them: receiving depth, and he's gonna be dealing with the run return game. So we get a kick returner. So not that bad of bad of a deal on our end. And as mentioned before, uh Jadavian Clowney is now going back home to the team that drafted him, the Texans.
