BobbyGs Big Stone ATX: Felipe Gomez
Felipe Gomez is a multi-media artist who blends nature, technology, and human emotion through vivid color and layered materials. His work, rooted in surrealism, realism, and geometric abstraction, invites viewers to explore both the external world and their landscapes.
Originally from Bogota, Columbia and now based in Austin, Texas, Felipe's influences span fine art and street art, particularly screen-printing, which inspired his signature technique of layered wood. As a full-time artist since 2019, he has developed a practice centered on sculpture, color theory, and modern techniques, seeking to evoke emotional and intellectual reflection in his viewers.
Felipe's recent public installation, "Archway to heaven", featured at ArtPrize in Grand Rapids, Michigan, exemplifies his exploration of light and color. The piece, with its three 16-foot by 13-foot arches, interacts with sunlight throughout the day, casting shifting colors that play with color theory and space. His broader body of work includes sculptures and installations that engage with similar themes of transformation and viewer interaction
Collectors are drawn to the organic feel of his woodwork, the intricacy of his layering, and his bold use of color. Looking ahead , Felipe aims to push the boundaries of color and light across various materials, including metal, tiles, and gouache, creating works that challenge perceptions and evoke deep responses.
