Regina Swarn Audio Series Presents

Procrastination Nation

Regina Swarn Season 7 Episode 23

Fan Mail

Procrastination might just be the most insidious dream-killer in our lives. We all know that person (or perhaps we are that person) who talks endlessly about brilliant ideas, promising ventures, and creative projects—yet never takes the first step. Why do we let our dreams die on the vine instead of nurturing them into reality?

Drawing from years of observation and personal experience, I break down how deferred action gradually transforms from "I'll do it tomorrow" into permanent inaction. I share the painful story of watching a talented colleague spend years talking about his ambitions while remaining in exactly the same place from 2018 to 2021, despite having all the resources and abilities needed to succeed.

The podcast explores why action matters more than words or intentions in today's challenging landscape. As someone who successfully balances hospital work with several profitable side hustles, I frankly discuss the difference between legitimate obstacles and the excuses we create to avoid taking risks. My message is clear: if you have a talent or idea worth pursuing, tomorrow is never guaranteed—start today, even imperfectly.

I also touch on my own mistakes, from wasted investments to misplaced trust in business ventures, emphasizing that even failed action teaches valuable lessons while procrastination teaches nothing. Whether you're dreaming of entrepreneurship, creative projects, or personal transformation, this episode serves as both wake-up call and practical encouragement.

Ready to break the cycle of procrastination in your own life? Listen now and take that crucial first step toward turning your dreams into reality. Don't let another day pass with your brilliant idea still trapped inside your imagination.

Speaker 1:

I want to talk about procrastination this morning because so many people got great ideas. I give you a little story about a guy that I work with, or people I've worked with, or people I've talked to that I work with, or people I've worked with or people I've talked to. Now, when I see a gift in a person, I try to encourage that gift. I encourage it. A lot of people like to drown your gift when they think you're better than them or they think it's something that you got. They don't want you to succeed, so they step on you. I'm not that crabs in a barrel kind of person. I like to support a person by encouragement and telling them hey, what are you waiting for? Procrastination will kill your dream and it's very easy, to Easy, to be killed Is killed. A word, oh my god. If it's not, it is now, but procrastination will. It would just smother any ideas. You got People.

Speaker 1:

I hear people talking about things they're going to do. They've been talking about it for years. I mean it's, it's, it's. I used to talk to this one guy a long, long time ago, I think back in 2018. He's going to do this and he's going to do that. He's going to do this, this, this, this, this. The guy had all the opportunities to do everything that he was saying. He was making good money on his job at the time. I don't know what he's doing now, but a few years later, in 2021, he still hadn't did anything and he had the opportunity to do so many things because he was still living home with his parents and this is a grown man and so I was encouraging him. I said you can have your own thing, you can have your own house, you can have your own everything. I said you got the chance right now. You're still living home with your parents, you can still do things. So I try to encourage people.

Speaker 1:

It's I keep things business. I'm not interested in people in a sexual way or in a relationship type of way. I am a business woman, so so when I come at a person, it's about business. I keep it business, because that's what I'm interested in in your business, not you wanting to be with me. So I have to make sure, I distinguish those things. So when I see people that they think sometimes that when I'm giving them advice and, you know, willing to help them, that they think that, oh, they're going to move in and they're going to like me and I'm going to, I'm going to be in charge, I'm going to be your man no, no, no, no. I am a smart business woman, believe me. No, no, no. I am a smart businesswoman, believe me, and I can have my choice to whoever I want. So I'm not bragging, but I'm just letting you know that that's not what I'm trying to do. That's not what I want to do. I try to help and my business. I do charge for the things that I do, but there are some times I want to encourage a person and help them when they, when I see a gift in them.

Speaker 1:

So this guy he procrastinated from 2017, 18, 19. Covid was 20, 21. The guy still was in the same place, in the same spot, doing nothing but dreaming. Procrastination will kill your dream. If you're just talking about you're going to do something and then you don't act upon it, then you're procrastinating. As far as I'm concerned, I do not like to deal very long with people who are talking about what they're going to do or what they want to do, because if you want to do something, you're going to do it, you're going to do it, you're going to do it. I do not sit around and fool around and waste my time with people who are sitting around procrastinating and a lot of people procrastinate, they're going to do so much and don't do anything and do so nothing. I cannot be around people like that.

Speaker 1:

You know, because I am in business and I am doing business and, like in these very troubled times we're going through right now, people are like well, how are you still succeeding? How are you still going? Well, I do have side hustles. Yeah, I do work at the hospital. People have asked me at the hospital, you do all these things, you sing, you do this. Why are you still here? And I look at them and I said, okay, I'm going to give you that question back why are you here? And I say, well, to make a paycheck. Okay, that's what I'm here toward too To make a paycheck. Why should I quit my job when I'm making decent money? Why should I quit that and still have my side hustles? Why should I quit that? Why? Why it's something that I enjoy doing. I enjoy doing the stuff that I do at the hospital. It's hard work, but I realize that I do enjoy it. Yeah, it's hard, it's very challenging.

Speaker 1:

There have been times that I wanted to just no, just walk out. But when I really think about it, people are really struggling really hard right now and they need jobs, they need work. They are out. So I try to be grateful. What would I have? And on the side I do have some very prosperous side hustles. I mean that bring in some really good money. So I'm not going to quit any of them. No, I'm not going to. They are are blessings. But back to procrastination.

Speaker 1:

You can say that you want to do something. You can have a niche, you can be so good at something and you can be just sitting there. You know how somebody sits there and looking up into the stars and dreaming. You can be a dreamer forever, but if you don't put your best foot forward and get it going, you'll be sitting there dreaming forever. I'm going to do this. I'm going to do that. People got some of the greatest ideas that I've heard of, but they're not putting them into action. See, I'm an action-gathering person. Words means nothing to me. Words means absolutely nothing to me, worst means absolutely nothing to me. If you got something that you're going to do, I don't care what it is, you need to get on it, because tomorrow is definitely not promised to you. If you got a good side niche, that you're good at making pillows, or you got a I got a brother who's really, really good with detailing cars and I have offered to help him, but he's you know what he's been saying. I'm going to do that forever and ever. He can detail cars, but he can have his own business. He can have his own thing going.

Speaker 1:

See, procrastination will kill your dream. When you sit there and dream, dream, dream. Procrastination will kill that dream and you will allow procrastination to kill that dream when you sit around saying you're going to do all these things and then two, three, four years later you're still sitting in the same spot dreaming and a lot of people say well, it's because I don't have the money. Don't give me that excuse when you can pick up a little side job, a side job to bring in little monies so you may have your rent and all that. That takes up all of your major money, but you can pick up a side job to to save money and put money aside. But people take money, they waste. They are wasters of money. They waste sometimes money that they could be putting aside for a rainy, rainy day.

Speaker 1:

I know I've been there, done that. I've invested in things that I thought was something that was going to be prosperous to me and it wasn't. I have invested in radio stations. I've put money in businesses that I thought that was going to be prosperous for me. I put money in different things that turn around. They wasn't. It wasn't helpful to me, it really wasn't, and it breaks my heart. Breaks my heart. Music, oh my God. My sister and I was in making jewelry show once and we was going down and we was giving money to this guy, this blind guy. Guy, he's very good at playing piano, but producing a record, nah, I don't think so. But we didn't know at the time, being very naive, and we wasted a lot of money and we lost a lot of money. We had to count our losses and move on and not go that route anymore, wasting money with radio stations that turned out to be. That ended up just turning the back on me.

Speaker 1:

I procrastinated, I procrastinated and then, when I didn't procrastinate, I wasted my money, because you can't waste money when you don't know what you're doing, because there are a lot of are out here to scam you and so, yeah, you just have to be careful either way. But if you are sitting around procrastinating and the things I just spoke about, I'm going to do a another podcast about wasting money, because you can do that too. You can do that too. I mean, gosh, I be thinking that, man, I like this, this is good, I'm going to put some money behind that. And for what? When I look back at it now, like, man, I wasted my money on that. I wasted it.

Speaker 1:

But procrastination, back to procrastination it will kill your dream. If you are out there today and you are good at something, beware, be weary of procrastination, because procrastination will kill your dream. Procrastination is something that you can do now, but you'll put it off for tomorrow and tomorrow turns into next week, next week turns into months and then years. Like I was telling you about the guy, years and years and years. All that procrastination for what? Still sitting back dreaming, still probably living with family members, still doing nothing? I don't like that. I like if you're going to do something, then get on on it, because tomorrow is not promised to us, tomorrow is not promised to us. So if you got a dream, get going. If you happen to lose your job or lose something or you're laid off, at least you can go back to that stuff that you got on the side and say, okay, well, at least I got that. You know, that's for those who are still working, who choose to still work. But always, if you got a dream, get on it. Guys, don't sit back and wait Because procrastination will kill your dream.
