Unboxed
#7 - Diverse Media: Easy as ABC?
One of the reasons for creating Unboxed was to challenge the overwhelmingly monoculture of mainstream Australian media. And in news that will shock no one, it still doesn't look like it's changed all that much over the years.
Just recently the ABC, Australia's public broadcaster, announced its eight core hosts of some of its flagship programs. Unsurprisingly, it remains overwhelmingly white.
In this episode, Alicia and Khushaal explore the lack of diversity in Australia's media landscape and discuss why this gap is much more than a moral issue. It has a real tangible impact on the way stories are told and how diverse communities are understood.
All that plus a 60 second dive into the world of dating apps.
