Welcome to the very first NSFB Quickie!

A few months ago we sent a chellenge out to our listens of having 200 orgasms this year. Now that the first quarter is over, Vicki is checking in and sharing an important reminder: pleasure isn't about keeping score. It's about making space for joy, connection, and feeling good in your own body.

How's your year going so far?

Vicki

This is the one where Vicky goes rogue and creates a solo episode. Welcome back to Not Safe for Brunch. I was about to head out for the day and I realized that we need a Not Safe for Brunch update today. A few months ago, you may recall, we did an episode about setting the goal of having 200 orgasms this year. At the time, it felt a little bold, maybe a little funny, kind of outrageous, and honestly a little liberating. So now that we've wrapped up the first quarter of the year, I figured it was time for a check-in. How's it going? For me? Pretty damn good. I'm actually on par for the big finish for the year so far, and I'm not gonna lie, I'm a little bit proud of that. I've taken a lot of time for myself. This challenge, though, was never really about just the number though. It's about paying attention. Paying attention to your pleasure, paying attention to our bodies, paying attention to whether we're making room in our lives for joy, connection, intimacy, stress relief, playfulness, and honestly just feeling good, right? If there's one thing that we have learned so far, it's that orgasms don't happen in a vacuum. Sometimes life happens. Sometimes you're dealing with health issues or stress, grief, parenting, work, surgeries, breakups, burnout, hormones, medication changes, just feeling disconnected from yourself. And in those seasons, intimacy can feel really, really difficult. Not because something's wrong with you, not because you're broken, not because you failed some imaginary standard of what your sex life is supposed to look like. It's just because we're human. We are living this life for the first time. I think we need to give ourselves a lot more grace when we're going through major life changes. And the three of us here at Not Safe for Brunch certainly have done that over the last two years. There are seasons where pleasure feels easy and accessible, and then there's seasons where simply surviving through the day is enough and we're just good with that. Neither one makes us better or worse than the other. And this challenge has really become a lot less about keeping score and more about asking ourselves: am I creating space for pleasure in my life wherever I can? Am I listening to my body instead of fighting against it? Am I giving myself permission to have changing needs? Because the goal is not perfection. The goal is connection. Pleasure is not frivolous. Pleasure is a part of wellness. Pleasure is a part of being connected to yourself. Pleasure is a part of feeling alive. So if your first quarter has felt a little chaotic, maybe disconnected, maybe you've had a dry spell, maybe you're busy, just plain exhausted, let this be your reminder that it's okay to come back to yourself at any time. You don't have to hit some silly arbitrary goal. You do not have to earn rest, desire, or joy. You are allowed to prioritize what feels good to you. And for anyone wondering, I will absolutely keep you updated as the year goes on because now I kind of need to know how far past 200 I can get. I'll see you next Tuesday.
