The Lone Star Conservative
When Texas Pride Meets Public Chaos
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
The Houston Rodeo is supposed to be a pressure valve for the whole state, a place where families, boots, concerts, and Texas pride all fit in the same frame. So when the carnival shuts down early because crowds start running and fights explode across the midway, it lands like a warning sign, not just a bad night out. We talk through what happened, why “rowdy” isn’t the right word, and why public disorder at a signature Texas event feels like a snapshot of bigger problems in culture and accountability.
Then we shift to Austin ISD’s planned LGBT Pride Week and the district guidance that pushes campus anonymity on social media. We dig into the tension between “inclusive” messaging and parental consent, what transparency should look like in public schools, and why secrecy around student-facing events immediately erodes trust. From there, we cover Harris County Jail finally passing a state inspection after repeated failures, and why “minimum standards” are not something to celebrate when lives and basic safety are on the line.
Medicare Monday brings real-world help: Justin White from Senior Health Services joins us to explain Medicare supplements, Medicare Advantage, and why premiums and drug costs are climbing for seniors on fixed incomes. We also hit Klein ISD’s run of firearm incidents, parents organizing for stronger campus security, and the bigger debate over deterrence and self-defense. Finally, we examine the Big Bend border wall controversy and close with Senator Paul Bettencourt calling for Lena Hidalgo to resign based on concerns about judgment and emergency management readiness.

Welcome And Houston Weather Whiplash
SPEAKER_11From deep in the heart of Texas, it's Houston's gun loving David and the voice of reason. This is the most star conservative Michael Wilson.
Rodeo Carnival Closes After Fights
Austin ISD Pride Week Controversy
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Texellent AC Service. And welcome to another week. This one now halfway through the month of March. If you were not aware of that fact, we are now halfway through the month of March. And it, by the way, the weather throughout not only today, but this past weekend, this past couple of weeks, uh has certainly been a roller coaster of highs and lows for us here in Houston, in the greater Houston area in general. You know, just a few days ago, it was highs in the mid-80s. In just a few days, it will be highs in the mid-80s. And yet, and yet, somehow, and don't ask me how, because I'm not actually a meteorologist. I just kind of report on the weather. I'm more a talker than anything. Somehow, uh, despite the fact that it's something like 45 degrees this morning, I think the low as you get through not only last night, but through tonight, it's gonna be something like 40 to 45 degrees. And yet, somehow, before this weekend even gets here, we're gonna have highs again in the low to mid eighties. And I don't want to spoil the weather too much, because you guys know we're gonna talk about that in the last segment here of the first hour of the show. So I won't spoil too much of the weather, more than just kind of introducing the show saying uh things have been crazy. And it's not just the weather, by the way. It's not just the weather that's kind of put us on this roller coaster. You know what else has put us on a roller coaster has been just in general, the rodeo. Not just rodeo season with everything else going on, but the rodeo itself. Of course, we had all the stuff going on with Lena Hidalgo last week, uh, which uh, you know, we we covered that extensively. I honestly, if I could, I would just erase it from my memory, never think of it again. Uh, one of those things that it's just embarrassing that that's what we as a people have put in a position of power. And you know, a lot of people would easily say, Well, I didn't know she was so bad. I didn't know she was so crazy, but plausible deniability only takes you so far when you actually do know. Like we don't get to deny that we know about a lot of the politicians and what they're likely going to do. If you put John Cornyn in over Ken Paxton, you know the moment that he's actually elected, he's not going to be serving some sort of, you know, America first agenda, at least not for long. You everyone knows that because we've looked at his voting history, we know the kind of person that he is. And so there's only so much we can deny when it comes to Lena Hidalgo and say, oh, we didn't know. No, some of us, most of us, almost all of us knew. Pretty much everybody knew. She's been storming out of commissioner's court for a while now. She's been leaving early to go to concerts. She's been saying that she has to leave Commissioner's Court mid-meeting for therapy sessions. She's been leaving her post for an extended period of time uh to go get treated for some sort of depression. And so we all kind of know that obviously she's got these clinically insane issues. And so when this whole rodeo thing went down, uh, but the reason I say that it's been been a roller coaster over at the rodeo is it's not just Lena. Now, Lena is a big part of the problem, and of course, she's an influence. And because she is in a position that she's in, she's supposed to be held to a higher standard. You wouldn't expect her to act like some of the poorer members of the community, and by poor I don't mean economically. I mean in behavior. You wouldn't expect her to behave that way, or at least you shouldn't expect her to behave that way. Maybe you would, because we all know Lena. But it's not just Lena. Uh, because I believe this was on Saturday, this past weekend. The rodeo had to close early. The headline is quite funny because the headline doesn't actually tell you much about what actually happened. It just says rowdy crowds prompted early closure of Houston Rodeo Carnival on Saturday. They, of course, still had the concert and all the actual rodeo stuff going on, but they closed down the carnival grounds. And they say it was rowdy crowds. Not the kind of thing they're talking about, actually. Uh this wasn't even like Lena Hidalga behavior where they weren't supposed to be there and they got escorted out. No, no, no. They had to close down the entirety of the carnival because again, I think Rowdy is putting it very mildly. Uh unfortunately, I can't play videos over the radio. You can't, you know, I know you I know you have our app downloaded or you're listening over the air. Like I can't show you a video, uh, but I can kind of describe the scene. I think rumors in the beginning said that a shooting happened, but there was no evidence of that. And the rodeo actually came out. Uh, and Houston Police came out and confirmed that there was no record of any sort of shooting happening. Uh rodeo also said there was no gun uh involved whatsoever. Uh there were also a few fights that broke out. Uh and that the type of fights that broke out, again, if I could paint the scene for you, you have this it almost looks like teenagers, uh, multiple groups of them that are just hand and fist just punching each other, pulling each other's hair, girls involved. Um, and it's it's taking up a large section of the carnival. It's not, you know, two people just getting in a fight in a little circle. It's a group of people. Uh not like a not like a gang affiliation, as far as we're aware. Um, but Saturday night, rodeo officials actually came out and said they closed the carnival out of out of an abundance of caution after a group began running, which caused a chain reaction. More people started running, more people started fighting. Uh, it says a group of individuals began running in the carnival area, which prompted others nearby to run. Law enforcement engaged quickly, and we are not aware of any injuries at this time. Out of an abundance of caution, the carnival closed early, the safety and security of our guests remains the top priority for the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. But it was not, it was not just running, unfortunately, that happened. Uh, because from my understanding, not only, not only did we have this sort of ongoing fight and running going on, but apparently there were also arrests, which I haven't gotten uh court confirmation of. I I I looked, I couldn't find it. Uh, but we're hearing reporting that people were even arrested for their involvement in these fights by HPD. And so again, the same thing I said during the Lena Hidalgo debacle is that the rodeo is supposed to be, at least in my understanding of it, my understanding from my whole life here in the Houston area, my understanding of the rodeo is that it's supposed to be a place and a time where the people of Texas come together, people travel from all over the state to come to this. People come to Houston to celebrate Texan Pride. It's kind of like Go Texan Day in general. Kind of reminds you. A good analogy of this is actually over in at Bunker Hill Elementary in Spring Branch ISD, where you had this Ramadan display on Go Texan Day, where parents walk into Go Texan Day, which is usually where you have cowboy boots, western decor, and line dancing, and they're greeted by this massive Ramadan Islamic display in the school. And it's gotta be a shock because you expect that there's going to be this sort of Texas pride going on in there, that we're all proud of our history, of our lineage, of our livelihoods, and of who we are as Texans. And the rodeo, by the way, is supposed to be very similar to that. And again, this I guess is opinion, it's not some sort of fact. But when you go to the rodeo, right, people, even people that are not, and I know people have gotten upset, oh, you're not really a cowboy. Why are you wearing boots and a cowboy hat? Because it's fun. Kind of like going to Renfair and dressing up like medieval attire. It's a moment everybody can come together and celebrate the history of Texas. Celebrate what Texas was, you know, fomented on, what we're based in, what our history and lineage is, what our heritage is all about. And it's it's amazing to see the bull riders and the horse, the barrel racers, the concerts, hang out with people, get to meet new people. Uh, of course, you can't ignore the food, but that's that's not the culture thing. That's just good food. I was looking at the list of best foods at the rodeo this year that won awards, and they had like chicken-fried lobster. I don't know, I don't know where we're coming up with some of this stuff, uh, but we've got some creative culinary geniuses out there that are doing a phenomenal job, by the way. I haven't tried the food this year, but I'm I'm determined to to try a couple of those things. But my my larger point overall is the rodeo is about so much more than a couple of rides and a concert. The rodeo, in its nature, is a moment for Texans to come together and to celebrate what it means to be a Texan. Right? We give back to the community. We'll talk a little bit later about uh some of the ways that that they do scholarships and funding, but everybody knows this. Everybody's well aware of it. And so when anything takes away from that, it's a harsh reminder that our culture is is being degraded by a variety of issues, from the Lena Hidalgo issue to the rodeo having to close down the carnival because of fights and and running and all this stuff. And so we we have we have to address that. Things have got to change because it's one thing when that's going on generally, and of course that's its own issue. We talk about crime in general here in Texas, here in the Houston area, we talk about criminals, we talk about public corruption, when we talk about all of these things, they all need to be addressed, they all need to be fixed. But it it's a special kind of understanding that you get when you see it happening at the rodeo. And we've got to start addressing these sorts of issues uh before our culture is completely given up to all of these variety of of crimes, to all these varieties of of criminal actions, nefarious intent actions. We have to start saying, hey, you know what? Actually, this has gotten out of hand, things have gotten bad. If at the rodeo we have to shut it down because people are misbehaving, then a real issue has occurred. Something has gone way too far, and we've not done enough as a city, as a county, and as a state, really as a country, to address the ongoing issues in our culture and and in our justice system. Because if you're a teenager and you think it's even remotely acceptable to behave this way anywhere, much less at the rodeo, then not only have you not been raised right, not only are you being is a huge disservice being done to you through your education system and through the way that you're being raised and the culture that you're being raised in, but then to believe that somehow you're just entitled to behave this way by nature of whatever you think compels you to do so, we wind up in a scenario where you look around and you must think to yourself, how did we get here? And how do we stop ourselves from going further, nipping it in the bud, and maybe actually, I I know that the left is all about progress, but maybe regressing a little bit. Maybe there were some things about our state and about our country that used to be better. And maybe progress should not be the ultimate goal because sometimes progress in the wrong direction is bad. There's good progress, but not all progress is good. And the sort of progress we've made in the culture and in the justice system has been has been putting it mildly, has been bad. When you have groups of people who think it's acceptable to behave in the way that you can see, and you should, if you've not seen them, you should go look up a couple of the videos. I think you just have to go. I mean, X is one of the best places to see independent reporting. Just go to X and look up Houston Rodeo Closed, and you'll see the videos of what happened Saturday night. You'll be greeted by those on on some of the first results on that search. It was horrendous. I mean, it it looked like uh this sort of tribal third world area where there's this this exciting stuff going on, and you've got large groups just duking it out, um, where it it it it just looks low class. And it should be a reminder to everybody that if we do not start fixing this now, it's it's not gonna get better. It's not gonna randomly magically just fix itself. It's going to get worse. And things are not going to be solved by inaction. Things are not going to be solved because we sat idly by and we said, eh, is what it is, I guess. This is just the way things are. I don't believe that. I think we actually have a lot of options at our disposal to fix these sorts of issues, but it requires intentional solutions. It requires us intentionally going in and saying, you know what? Actually, we need to stop doing slaps on the wrist for these sorts of things. We need to stop saying that there are such a thing as nuisance crimes in general. And saying, no, no, no, they don't need to be punished. There doesn't need to be some sort of retribution or punitive action involved at all. No, instead, uh, we should just we should just let these people move on. Right? It's the Lena claim. Let's just move on from this. I know that I I made wild accusations rooted in racism and sexism, but I let's just move on, honestly, because I I couldn't find proof of what I'm claiming. And so we'll just we'll just move on from it. We cannot just move on from it because these are real issues that are now affecting uh one of what should be the most glorious moments of our year. And maybe I'm being dramatic with that. Maybe there are a lot of people who say, ah, the rodeo is not that big a deal, but I love the rodeo. I love the rodeo season, I love everything surrounding it. I think it's a good moment for everybody to come together. And this sort of stuff ruins it if we're not very careful. I mean, again, they had to close down the entirety of the carnival side of the rodeo. I'm sure that's bad for the vendors. I'm sure that's bad for rodeo officials, I'm sure that's bad for the people. I'm sure there are plenty of people that were not involved in the running and the fighting who were quite displeased with the fact that they were shutting down that side of the rodeo that they paid to be at. And so if we're going to address these issues, we need to address them head on. We need to start focusing on who's creating them, because it's a small minority of the population, by the way. It's not a large group of people that's committing all these crimes. It's a rather small group of the population that is committing the vast majority of crimes, especially violent crimes. And it would be so easy if our criminal justice system was focused on actually fixing the problems to fix them. It doesn't even have to be some sort of crazy change, just minor changes about how we deal with criminality, about how we view criminals in general and how we address those problems. That would immediately, immediately, it wouldn't even be a long time. It would immediately change the way that the state operates. It would immediately change the culture in the state, very quickly, if people knew they were going to actually be punished for the things they were doing and held accountable for them. There would be personal responsibility for what you do. And unfortunately, as we're sitting here now talking about it, nothing's getting better. Things are, as I already, as I've already pointed out, getting worse. And this is merely another highlight of that fact. This is merely another moment where we look at it and we say, big shocker there. I'm can't be really too surprised that it happens. There are plenty of fights that break out at the rodeo, plenty of times where you have teenagers. And so we need to have start having better rules. I know that it's unfortunate, but if you want to fix this, it means, okay, you know what? Actually, we're not going to let teenagers go alone to the rodeo anymore. I know that used to be a fun thing we could do, but we're not living in a culture where that's acceptable anymore. You used to go drop a kid off, say, have a good time, hang out with your friends, I'll pick you up this evening. Uh, there's your day, there's your Saturday, have a good one. Enjoy spring break, whatever that looks like. Clearly it's not gonna work like that anymore. It can't work like that when this is the culture that we've created. And so we need to start having rules as to what time it closes, what ti what what what it requires for uh someone under the age of 18 to even get in the rodeo in the first place. And then for those that do misbehave while they're there, what sort of punishments they're going to face? Maybe a lifetime ban from the rodeo. Your name is put on a do not do not no ability to purchase grounds tickets or concert tickets to the rodeo, maybe say five years. Put a pretty harsh repercussion in place for people that misbehave. You can't come back. If that's how you're gonna act, we don't want you here. Sorry, goodbye, never see you again. It it is incredibly simple to do that. It's not a difficult thing to do. It just requires that people stand up and say, enough is enough, and we're not gonna tolerate it anymore. You don't get to just behave however you want and then come back and have a good time tomorrow. Doesn't work that way. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about Austin ISD, just as a little uh compare and contrast moment. I know a lot of people, myself included, have been all over Houston and HISD and you know been discussing all the various issues that are going on here. Uh, but I do want to compare and contrast, you know, other places where you can still feel a little bit blessed that you don't live in other places. One of those places you should feel very blessed that you don't live sometimes is Austin. Uh Austin ISD has has this upcoming event, this LGBT celebration, scheduled for later this month. That's only a week away, March 23rd through March 27th. That's next week. And as far as we're aware, they're actually hiding the specifics of their planned LGBT celebration. We'll talk more about the details of what that means. When we get back from the break, if you'd like to text in, let us know your thoughts. The number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. SPEAKER_12So Austin ISD, uh Austin Internet School District, is planning to celebrate LGBT Pride Week with both staff and students, despite concerns, of course, raised by parents and state officials over its appropriateness and not more importantly, but also importantly, its legality. Slated again for next week, that's March 23rd through the 27th, the event will include pride-themed spirit activities that will take place outside of instructional time during the school day. According to posted guidelines, although both National Pride Month and the Austin Pride Parade take place during the summer, Austin ISD hosts Pride Week during the school year to show support for our diverse students, staff, and families. The guidelines read When students feel safe and can show up as their full selves at school, they're better able to engage in learning and thrive academically. Pride Week is one of the many ways we highlight the district's commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and inclusive environment for all. Which, by the way, can I just go ahead and say, just as clearly as I possibly can, this claim in general is not only nefarious, but it's actually logically incoherent. When students feel safe and can show up as their full selves at school, they're better able to engage in learning and thrive academically. Could not be further from the truth. The goal of the education system, of any education system, by the way, is not for students to be able to be their quote unquote full selves, whatever the heck that means. Actually, that's that's quite the opposite of the truth. The goal is to say, regardless of who you may think you are, you're required to meet these qualifications. You're actually required to do these things, even when it requires sacrifice, even when you don't think you're smart enough to do it, even when you don't want to do it, these are the qualifications that we have. These are the things that you are required to do. Even when it's not fun. Even when that means, oh, well, that's not really, you know, you know my full self is someone who really does not like math. So I'll just drop out of math. Well, the school wouldn't like that very much. That's my full self. You know, you can hear uh from some of the most notorious psychopathic serial killers. They certainly felt like that was their true self-was to be a serial killer. That that was that was what made them the most happy. That was where they found some sort of you know, some sort of self-fulfillment out of life. Is that what you want out of your students? Because what you're teaching them ultimately is that everything is secondary to who they believe themselves to be. And the problem with that is as a Christian nation, what we should be encouraging is students to overcome whatever parts of themselves actually aren't good. To say actually these things are bad, and you should you should fight against them. Right? My full self is someone with no responsibility, so I'm gonna go get an abortion. My full self is someone who participates in LGBT Pride Week. Uh, so I need to be affirmed in that. No, actually, that's evil. Actually, that continues to degrade the culture. Uh, it continues to make the culture worse. It continues to to allow, by the way, they weren't talking about thriving academically. We've never been dumber in terms of critical thinking than we are right now. I know that they want to say that we've progressed because we've discovered new things and our technology is better than ever. And the amount of things that we know, the knowledge part of things, well, we have access to all this old knowledge and we have access to all this new knowledge. So we should be hypothetically smarter than ever before. And yet, somehow, our grades are worse. Our students are more incompetent, they're less informed, they're less knowledgeable, and they are less able to do basic things and know basic things. They can't engage with logical arguments. They know relatively nothing. And so, yeah, we have all this new knowledge. What does that do for the benefit benefit of our students? You want about academic thriving? You know, we're not academically thriving. And I can promise you, I can promise you, hosting an LGBT Pride Week during school hours is not the proper strategy for allowing our students to get smarter. I promise you, if your goal is that your students can finally thrive in academics and can do better, get better grades, learn more, become more logical, uh, the solution is not going to be because you allowed them to be their quote unquote full selves. Nevertheless, although the guidelines posted online list daily themes, specific LGBT activities for each school will be communicated directly to parents by the school principal. And so strict social media policies for the event are laid out, highlighting the importance of maintaining campus anonymity. It specifically warns against posting images that clearly identify our specific school by avoiding capturing school signage, room numbers, or distinctive architecture that could reveal the event's location to the public. Because you'd never want the public to know what you're doing. District employees are encouraged to instead capture images that show engagement and highlight the effort, such as LGBT themed hallway decorations, posters, flags, and attire. You also have uh State Board of Education member Brandon Hall, who said, I am done watching my constituents' exorbitant property taxes, especially through recapture, pay for Austin ISD to sexually indoctrinate kids through their illegal annual Pride Weeks. It's time to defund Austin ISD and criminally investigate Superintendent Matthias Seguira. Student groups and organizations will be allowed to plan LGBT themed activities that incur outside of instructional time, uh, which, by the way, we have in Texas law a prohibition on school-sponsored clubs that form focus on sexual ideologies in government schools, which is exactly what they're allowing to occur. And so again, they've held this sort of Pride Week event for several years. Uh back in 2024, this was reported on. It included the distribution of LGBT swag. Uh, one mother of that school district said that she would keep her child home due to the material that was being taught that week. You also have Attorney General Ken Paxson, who alleged back in 2022 that Austin ISC's Pride Week violated state law by teaching sexual orientation and gender identity topics, which constitute human sexuality instruction without parental consent. And he wrote back in 2022, the Texas legislature has made it clear that when it comes to sex education, parents, not school districts, are in charge. And so you've got two ongoing issues in this Pride Week, two separate issues that both, of course, come together to create this overall issue. But they're two distinct issues. The one, of course, is the week in general, the celebration in general. Obviously, that in and of itself is problematic and it must be addressed. Obviously, we all understand, regardless of anything else, it is a bad thing to allow school districts to behave in this manner. It is a bad thing for us to sit here and watch as one of our very large school districts is very obviously indoctrinating kids into the most insane gender ideology ever concocted by the human mind. I I mean it it is pure insanity to allow that to happen to our students. It's it's already a dumb thing to allow that to happen in culture in general, right? When it's o even when it's only affecting adults, it's bad, actually. When you're putting it in uh films and and you're making it popularized through media and in adult books, that's bad enough. When you start pushing that in front of kids uh as sort of something that they can't even avoid, right? This is this is arguably even worse than a lot of the explicit stuff they put in the books, that at least then your child isn't obligated to participate. Your child is not surrounded by it just inherently by being there. This is opposed to that because of course you're you're indoctrinated into it just by nature of showing up to school. You can't avoid it. They're decorating the halls, they're decorating the classrooms, people are wearing attire, they're teaching things differently. You can't avoid it even if you wanted to. And so they are they are shoving it hand and fist into your kids' face. There's there's nothing you can do about it, except for, of course, my argument would be well, your kid shouldn't go to school then. How about you pull your child out and you homeschool them or you send them to a Christian school, whatever that looks like. And now with school choice, it's a lottery system. I think school choice, the the eligibility window actually closes, the application window closes tomorrow. And so now's the perfect opportunity. Pull your child out. Get them as far away from this as possible. But that leads into the second issue that kind of creates this whole entire issue, which is of course the anonymity aspect where they don't want the public to know who's doing what, where they're doing these things, what these things actually look like. They want to keep it behind closed doors, they want to keep it private, they don't want you to be aware of where your tax dollars are going, they don't want you to know what your tax dollars are being spent on, they don't want you to know how they're indoctrinating kids, what they're teaching. They want to have ultimate authority over your child and over all of the children in the state of Texas and all over our country. They they want full control and the full ability to not be transparent, but to hide everything they're doing behind some sort of curtain where you don't know what's happening with your child, you don't know what they're teaching them, you don't know what they're indoctrinating them into. No one gets to know. That's their goal. And so, of course, these two different issues, the lack of transparency and the indoctrination in general, come together to create a pretty evil monster. A monster where you have school districts that are actively engaging in subversive operations to change the culture into this amorphous blob of people who know nothing, but except for the fact that, well, I know that I'm a child, but I really do know my sexuality. That's that's the only thing they really care about is this sort of indoctrination in the minds of the youth. And they do this on purpose, right? Because they know that if you can capture the minds of the youth, then you capture the hearts and minds of the adults, because the youth will be tomorrow's adults. They're well aware of that. That's that's not something that they cover up. This is well known. And so if we're going to address this, if we're going to defeat this, we have to do it head on by acknowledging exactly what's happening. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're going to jump over and uh talk about the Harris County Jail, because the Harris County Jail has now apparently passed a state inspection for the first time since January of 2025. Uh, it's been over a year since they passed a single state inspection whatsoever. This isn't even the overall inspection, right? This is just a state inspection, a single one. First time they passed it in over a year. We'll talk more about the details of that inspection, how they passed uh the leaps and bounds they claim that they're they're moving in the right direction, all of that when we get back. As always, if you would like to be a part of the show, let us know your thoughts on anything we're reporting on, or maybe something that we're not reporting on that you'd you know like to hear us talk about. Feel free to text in. That number is the same. It doesn't change. You can text in at 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. And I'll return with that state inspection on the Harris County Jail when we get back.

SPEAKER_04If you are of Medicare age or getting close or you have a loved one that is, be careful with those unsolicited phone calls that I know you know about. We get told about them all the time. What you need to know is that many of those phone calls are not even legal. They're coming from offshore call centers. Sometimes they're calling regardless of whether you're on the do not call list. Isn't that nice of them, by the way? It's really sweet of them to just do that because they are thinking that they can't get caught. Bottom line is when you get on there and you talk to them, they're already kind of operating sidelong of what should be done. And sometimes people end up in plans that they did not intend to enroll in. And so what do you do? Call somebody local. If you got a local agent, my gosh, call them and get in front of them. And if you don't have a good agent, think of an organization like Senior Health Services where you can sit down, talk about what you're looking for, and get the help that you need. You don't need to be talking to phone operators from other countries that you don't know who they are, where they are, or what in the world they're doing.

Harris County Jail Finally Passes
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellant AC Service. We got a text in it says, if you have to hide it, it can't be good. There are plenty of Bible verses about the evil of the darkness. One of my favorites, by the way, thanks for texting in. One of my favorites on that note is expose the works of darkness. And the reason why that's so important to me is because my whole job is to do that. That's why I report on all these things. I don't want to put people in a mindset, and I've said this so many times. I like to clarify. My goal in all of this is not to produce some sort of reaction in people where they give up or where they think all they see is how evil the world is and they think there's just nothing we can do about it. It's just destined to do this and we have we have no capability to change things. I I don't believe that. My theology does the the things that I believe in about the end of the world does not believe I do not believe in in in any of that. I don't think that's true. I do not think that we are just destined to lose these fights and for the culture inevitably to be worse here and now. I don't think that's true. I I I refuse to believe that. And so my goal in sharing all of these things with you is not that you would walk away being discouraged, that you would walk away thinking, eh, there's just nothing we can really do. I guess we gotta give up. I guess it's just too late for us. I I don't believe that. I I hope, my hope is that all those listening also refuse to believe that and to say, actually, the purpose of reporting on all of this is that we can know, we can see what's in front of us, what enemy we have to face, what enemy we have to fight. Um and before anyone brings it up, I am aware that we have a right to privacy. And so it's not that the issue is hiding things necessarily. It is who is hiding things and what they're hiding. Right? Do you have a right to privacy? Yes. Does the school district have a right to privacy over our kids? Absolutely not. That that is certainly not what the founders intended. That is certainly not what our country should look like, where the school districts have ultimate authority to have some sort of privacy in the classroom. That is not the end goal, that should not be even the means. That is evil, especially because they're using it for something like Pride Week, which is very obvious. They announced this to the world, we all know it. So let's jump over to the Harris County Jail. Last week they uh they passed the state inspection for the first time in more than 12 months, making the largest jail in state compliant in compliance with minimum standards, according to the Sheriff's Office's announcement late last week. A certificate of compliance was issued to the county by the Texas Commission on Jail Standards, which is, of course, the state agency ultimately responsible for jail inspections, as well as, of course, setting those standards and enforcing them. So if you don't pass inspections, putting some sort of, you know, uh repercussions in place. To pass an inspection, Texas jails must meet 26 different standards that include health services, supervision, commissary, and the admission and release process. The jail, the Harris County Jail, which houses an average of more than 8,000 inmates, has been out of compliance with minimum state standards since January 2025, when it was cited after an in-custody death for failing to complete face-to-face inmate observations as required. It failed again to meet those guidelines in May of last year and again in June of last year. So consistently failing to meet those state standards. Uh a certificate of compliance was issued to the county. The last time one was actually issued, because the first time they failed was in January. The last time one was issued was in August of 2024, uh, when the jail passed an inspection after more than two years. So it was two years that they were out of compliance. And then in August of 2024, they were in compliance for one inspection. Just a few just a handful of months later, they were out of they were out of compliance again. And they've been out of compliance again since minimum was January, probably closer to the August time when they passed the last one. Probably by September they were out of compliance. There just wasn't an inspection done. And so they've been consistently out of compliance, other than one passed inspection for three and a half to four years, is how long our jail has just been not even not even doing the bare minimum. Because again, these are the minimum set standards just to pass an inspection. This is not you're doing good, you're doing great. We're doing a phenomenal job here. It's this is the bare minimum required to operate as a jail in the state of Texas, and you're not meeting it for numerous years. Now, of course, Sheriff Ed Gonzalez came out, thanks county leaders and staff in a statement saying the achievement wouldn't have happened without the crucial support of every member of the Harris County Commissioner's Court. He said maintaining a safe and secure jail environment under challenging circumstances requires constant vigilance and attention to detail. The detention officers, medical providers, and professional staff who serve in the jail have earned my deep respect and profound gratitude for a job well done. The Harris County Sheriff's Office is committed to operating a jail that reflects our community's belief that every defendant deserves to feel safe while they await their day in court. Of course, the state jail failed an inspection back in December for having fire panels in trouble mode, indicating a problem with the fire alarm system. The jail was cited for the same issue in June, again in October, but the fire system has since been replaced, according to the Sheriff's Office, which previously told inspectors that inmates were responsible for damaging the fire panels. We know that 20 people died in Harris County Jail last year alone. Uh the death total, the death toll doubled from the 10 reported inmate deaths in 2024 to that 20 number last year in 2025. I think the jail also saw the third lowest death per capita rate compared to the county's other largest jails. Um you have, I think, 13 people died on Rikers Island in New York City, eight died at Chicago's Cook County Jail, but we're we're blowing it out of the water here with the way that our jail operates. And we all know that. That's not hidden from anybody. This is all public information. Everybody knows. And I've said before, but just as a quick PSA, just a quick little infograph here for a moment, if I may, this is easily solvable. I know that they want to pay millions of dollars for studies and for audits and for all these things because they just like to spend money. But it's actually not very complicated at all. It's actually very simple. If you want to fix the issues going on inside our jail, if you want to fix the issues in our criminal justice system in general, one of the easiest, fastest fixed Taxes you could possibly imagine is to have stricter requirements on how long people are held. And by that I mean how long you have to go to trial. You know why you have so many thousands of inmates in custody at one single time? I can tell you why. Because those people are not going to trial, so they're not being that their cases are not being adjudicated. And as a result, they're not either going to prison or getting out or getting on probation or receiving the death penalty, whatever their circumstances require, restitution, manual labor, whatever it is that their punishment's going to be. They're not receiving those punishments in a timely manner. And so as a result, they're left sitting in the jail for an extended period of time. And of course, that's also where you get, as we discussed before, the bond issue, where violent criminals are let out on bond. And as a result of that, we have various violent criminals who are out performing more violent crimes that never should have been out in the first place. Another side effect of year-long waits for trial. That could all be resolved very quickly by saying, yeah, there's actually a maximum amount of time you can have before trial starts. One month. After one month, I think that's already too long. But after one month, if you're not gone to trial, there's a real issue and somebody needs to be held accountable for it. That would reduce the amount of people that are in the jail. That would reduce the backlog. And I think it would actually create a better criminal justice system in general. Not even looking at the bond issue. With that being said, we get back from the break to wrap up the first hour of the show. We're going to come back to talk all about the weather, what went on this weekend, what we see coming up through the rest of this week, and today specifically when we get back. SPEAKER_10Hi, this is Harold Gunn, inviting you to join Bill Olston and me for Texas' longest running and most awarded outdoor show. Brought to you by Built Ford Tough Trucks, it's Texas Outdoor News. Join us Saturday mornings at 6 on Patriot Talk 920.
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellant AC Service. So today's weather is turning sharply colder and windy as a powerful cold front is sweeping through southeast Texas. Temperatures are expected, or at least were, to plunge 30 to 40 to 30 to 40 degrees from Sunday afternoon to early Monday morning across the Houston area, which is why, at least where I am, it's Ohio, it's right now sitting right around 46 degrees outside. A wind advisory remains in effect through Monday afternoon as strong winds develop ahead of and behind the front, with gusts reaching 30 to 40 miles per hour. A red flag warning is also in effect from 11 AM to 7 p.m. m today for most Southeast Texas as strong winds and very dry air create dangerous fire conditions. And so a powerful gold front again is bringing one of the sharpest temperature swings the region has seen in quite a few weeks at this point. Behind the front, temperatures fall quickly overnight. Again, by early this morning, those are going to be in the thirties and forties, depending on what part of town you're in. Strong early winds could put push wind chills into the thirties at times as well. Despite mostly sunny skies today, high temperatures are only expected to reach the fifties. The coolest afternoon in the Houston area has seen since February first. Tonight will be even colder. Lows will fall into the upper thirties across much of the region, with mid-30s possible in the Braz Valley and Piney Woods. A light freeze cannot be ruled out in some of the northern uh more of the northern communities here in the Houston area. Dry air and strong winds behind the glove front again are going to keep fire danger high across southeast Texas today. The ra red flag warning again is from eleven AM to 7 p.m. As those guts of up to 40 miles per hour combined with humidity levels dropping to around 15%. Now a warming trend is beginning midweek as high pressure builds across the southern United States. High temperatures reach into the 50s today, the 60s tomorrow, before climbing into the 70s by Wednesday, and by the end of the week, highs are going to reach the upper eighties. Morning temperatures will also rise, warming from the upper 30s and 40s early in the week to the upper 50s and lower sixties by the weekend. So, like today, for instance, you have a low of uh, and tonight you have a low of, you know, mid to upper 30s, low forties, and highs in the 50s. By, say, Saturday, you've got a low in the 60s and highs in the mid to upper 80s. And so again, this sort of roller coaster of temperatures and weather we were talking about earlier this morning. With that being said, when we get back from the break, at the top of the next hour, of course, we're having senior health services come on, Justin White from Senior Health Services coming on for Medicare Monday. You guys will not want to miss that interview. We'll always talk about all the important things going on in the Medicare industry right now that you need to be aware of. We also have lots more stories coming up on the agenda from parents organizing after multiple gun incidents in Klein ISD, uh, to of course the border wall debate over in Big Bend, all that coming up. You're listening to Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. I'll be right back with Justin White after the break.
SPEAKER_11From deep in the heart of Texas, comes Houston's God-loving patriot, the voice of reason. This is the Lone Star Conservative, Michael Wilson.
SPEAKER_13I'm a bandit. We are a bandit. Let's all get a bandit.
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellant AC Service on the line. You guys, you guys already know it's Monday. This is Medicare Monday with Justin White from Senior Health Services. Welcome to the show, Justin. Hey, good morning, Michael. Good morning, everyone. And uh, we have a lot to talk about this morning. Specifically, uh, lots of people who are watching as their prices go up. This happens in every industry all the time, but in the Medicare industry, especially, I think a lot of times this results in people ending up confused, ending up kind of wondering where they go from here. Can you give us some background on these supplement plans and what people are seeing happen right now? And maybe people who are retiring, getting ready to be in the Medicare industry, what they can they can be looking at in the future for what's coming.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. Well, Medicare supplements are one of the two popular ways to offset to offset the 20% cost of original Medicare. And for those that don't know, Medicare A and B are just basically a big 80-20 plan. And so you've got to deal with the 20%, and you can either do a Medicare supplement with the traditional way to do it, or you can do a Medicare Advantage plan, which is a different way of covering Medicare A and B using private companies. And in recent uh years, the last couple, especially and especially last year early, there's been some legislative changes which have caused those premiums along with inflation to start going up. And they've been going up disproportionately fast and it's starting to put a crunch on a lot of our a lot of our seniors out there. They're trying to, you know, figure out how to afford you know the grocery store and medical bills and drugs and all that kind of stuff. The supplements are coming in and complicating that issue a little further.
SPEAKER_12Right. And for a lot of these people, of course, and I'm sure you see this all the time, when you're on a fixed income, I mean, it it's stressful enough for all these changes going on in everyday people's everyday life when you have the ability to earn more money. But when you're on a fixed income, especially, things changing their pricing that you're used to paying is extremely stressful because that's that's your cap. You got a budget cap that you can't really move the needle on. And so I'm sure there's a lot of people, and I'm sure you're you're dealing with this every day, who are a little bit lost on on where they're supposed to go from here, on what that sort of change can look like.
SPEAKER_05Yeah, we hear that a lot. Fixed income is a buzzword, that is a buzz phrase for what we have to deal with an awful lot is fixed income. And it's uh And the problem is these costs, and everybody that's on social security knows this. The cost of living increases just they ain't getting it done, for lack of a better term. You know, they're just not going up fast enough. And uh, you know, the way the government measures it, a lot of people say that that's not even accurate. This CPI thing they use because people see prices going up a lot faster at the grocery store.
SPEAKER_12Right, right. And so, of course, as we always like to do here, it it it it should be a reminder to everyone, you know, these these changes are happening. It's not some sort of hypothetical where things could always change and you need someone on your side, right? No sort of buzzwords in that respect. But these things are happening. Year over year, prices change as they go up. I'm sure sometimes they've gone down. Things change in which kind of plan goes up, which one is more affordable. And so for a lot of people that are on, whether it's a fixed income or not, for a lot of people that are in these positions where it's getting prohibitively priced, where they say, Hey, I I literally can't afford this. I think that's when it's especially important to say you need somebody who knows what they're doing to come and walk you through all this.
SPEAKER_05Yeah. Oh, that's that's a major problem. And and the the inflation's happening across the board. It's not just supplements per se. I mean, the inflation reduction act that we've talked about a thousand times on here is uh is really causing that's causing prices to go up on everything on the drug plans, on the advantage plans, etc. And people just need an advocate that they can chat with that can help them kind of deal with it because this is not this is not going anywhere anytime soon. And it's you know, the supplements are being driven largely by inflation and legislation. One of the things that's driving the supplement is the fact that the legislature mandated that people under 55 with uh ALF, which is legitimate disease, or kidney, must be made available or made must be able to avail like plan G and some of the more premium um supplemental plans, and those are very, very expensive. We want people, obviously, in those conditions to be able to get help, but that does not change the fact that they are extraordinarily expensive conditions, and the supplement plans are gonna have to absorb it, which means that everybody that's on those plans are gonna have to absorb it. So that's really kind of what we've been dealing with in real time over the last, you know, nine or ten months since early last summer.
SPEAKER_12Right. And so we got a couple texts in that I just want to read real quick. The first one uh from one of our listeners says every week I go to buy groceries, and each item seems to be a dollar higher. And as you were mentioning, I think that's across the board. Everyone's kind of experiencing that same sort of inflation where things are getting more expensive. And again, for our seniors especially, that is far more difficult to manage because your dollar, you're not gonna, you're not gonna make more money for a lot of these people. And so you're stuck in a position where your money is just every year becoming worth less. And so I think it's incredibly crucial that they have help. The other text that I want to read, because I think this is a good testimonial, uh, it says, My mom called me crying in December because of a Medicare issue for her and both of her sisters. I told her to call Justin White, call senior health services, and they were able to get all three of them in a new plan on one appointment that they're happy with. And so I know, I know. I think it's a good reminder that when things seem bleak, and I know they are sometimes, uh, for our listeners, the reason why we're with with senior health services here is because we have people who actually care. Uh, and that's something that that is hard to find. I know that we have commercials running everything talking about getting spam calls and all these other things. But you guys, you guys don't do that because your ultimate focus is on helping as many people as possible.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. Well, and there's a right way and a wrong way to do things. You know, sometimes there's some joker in town or in the nation that the people get calls from them and think it's us. And I just want to assure everybody on here, you know, I'm the CEO and I've never owned, nor have I ever run a phone room like that. And so we we just we do not do that because you know, most of those phones are illegal. I mean, most of those calls are illegal. And uh we're gonna do this above board, but we do want to make sure that we make ourselves available to people. And I don't mean to come on here and just do the very crappy news, but you know, it's more about awareness than anything, look, if you're going through this, you are not alone in any shape, matter, or form. There's a lot of people going through what they're going through right now, and sometimes I think people get some you know some mental comfort from the panel. Okay, well, what can I do? And if the answer that you've already said it is is just called. I'd like to be able to promise that we have a magic wand that we can wave over every single thing and fix it no problem, and we can fix most of it. But at the very least, we can get into the pit with you and fight the fight and try to figure out what we need to do. And if there is a solution, we're gonna find it. If not, if not just have a solution right available right away, we'll tell you when it will be available so that we can all plan together and get a game plan. That'll at least make you feel better.
SPEAKER_12Right. And of course, another another highlight on that point that I want to make for everybody is you mentioned the magic wand. Well, part of the issue is there's not a one size fits all plan for everyone. And so a lot of times it's well, I have this particular issue and I don't know how to address it. And you can't you can't really do that over the air. You can't really do that with a one size fits all plan. It has to be, you got to call. And so if you guys are interested, if you guys are saying, hey, I am in this pit and I need help, I don't know what to do, I don't know what the plan changes mean, just go to senior health services.com or call. It's easy to call. The number is 281-894-7540. That's 281-894-7540 for a free consultation. Uh, they're there in your corner. Justin, as always, I appreciate you coming on, giving us your time here on Monday morning. This has been Medicare Monday with Justin White from Senior Health Services. Healthcare Policy And Trusting Reality
SPEAKER_12Talk to you next Monday, Justin. Thanks so much. And with that being said, ladies and gentlemen, I'm gonna go ahead and give out the website one more time. That's seniorhealth services.com or call at 281-894-7540. Uh, we've we've been partnering with Justin for quite a while now. Uh one of the favorite moments of my week is to be able to do this and to say, hey, if if you're listening to the show and you're it's not even just if you're in a bad plan. A lot of the time it's if you're in a plan where you're confused. You don't know what's going on, you're not aware of what you can do or the options displayed to you. I mean, this happens again in in all sorts of industries, tax industry, there's changes. I know I do my own taxes, and every year I'm greeted by another some sort of regulation, regulatory change where it's confusing and I gotta walk myself through it, and it's complicated. And so for a lot of people, it is so much easier if you have someone who's already well educated on those changes, who's already well informed, and who knows all the various avenues that you can go to change that and to make things as good as possible for yourself. That doesn't always mean it's gonna be magic, as he pointed out. Doesn't always mean there's gonna be a perfect fix where you're back in a plan, like it's you know, the best Medicare has ever been. But it does mean they can get you the best that's possible. So just call 281-894-7540. With that being said, we got one more text I want to read before jumping into this next story. It says, How will Trump's plan to adjust healthcare to pay individuals and of insurance companies work? Um, you know what? That's actually a really good question. And um, if if you're gonna be listening for a while, if you're not, you know, tuning in one morning and you heard this stuff, uh, two things, two responses. Response number one, I'll actually ask Justin at some point uh here soon, and I'll get you a better answer from someone who is far more educated on this industry than I am. But in general, a lot of this individualized stuff, a lot of what Obamacare did, uh, one of the highlights of negativity on the Obama administration has been Obamacare. Everybody knows this. This is not even hotly debated by leftists. Obamacare, they they still kind of want to claim that it's this sort of good socialized health care that works, but everyone knows that it doesn't. It's made everything more unaffordable. Uh, it's put everyone in a tougher position. It's been an outright failure. And that that's not difficult to debate. That's very easy to see. I I I I say this often. I was having a conversation the other day because I was, I don't even remember the topic of conversation, but I remember this one line. I was told, but the studies don't show that. And I remember my comeback to the studies, I didn't he didn't even cite the studies. So I don't even know if he was telling the truth on the studies, whatever it was. But my reply was far more simple. I said, there is such a thing as observable reality. And I'm not going to be dissuaded by the quote unquote experts who have conducted a study. When I know that studies are often fraudulent, uh they're often funded by companies with specific intents where they select specific people for specific studies and specific environments uh to reach the conclusion they already wanted to reach. Confirmation bias in these studies is uh abnormally unbelievably high. And so I said, look, there's such a thing as observable reality. Right? If if I see the sky as blue and the smartest meteorolog meteorologists in the world come out and say, Well, no, no, no, the the sky's actually very cloudy today. I know that you can see the sky, and it doesn't look cloudy. The sky's very blue, and the sun shining is shining down. There's there's you know the shade, the only shade you get is under the trees. But trust me, don't believe your eyes. Actually, it's very cloudy. I know you wouldn't believe that, but but uh it is. We should all rightfully say, uh no, actually it's not. As it turns out, and this look at it however you want. As it turns out, I can see this guy. And it's helpful to have your input, and it's helpful to have studies conducted on things. But at the end of the day, and I think COVID taught a lot of people this if they weren't already aware, the experts can be bought, they can be paid for, and they can be wrong. And that wrongness can be used to manipulate your perspective. It can be used to change the way you view the world in a lot of negative ways. And at the end of the day, you need to be aware that you actually have the ability to observe things. And no number of experts or studies should be able to convince you otherwise. They have weaponized the science industry. They have weaponized the economic industry. They weaponized basically every industry with this strict adherence to, well, there is a study. And the reality is that studies cannot and should not be able to convince you of things that are obviously not true. And I know that we've given up a lot of our critical thinking. I know that we've outsourced a lot of our ability to recognize truth to quote unquote experts. But at the end of the day, you are a fully capable human being who can see the world. And I never want us to end up in another COVID part two situation where people are convinced of things that are very obviously not true because someone who they view as intelligent told them otherwise. That doesn't mean that you can't ever use a study as evidence of something that you think is true. That doesn't mean that you can't ever be convinced of things that you didn't formally think because, you know, there was a study conducted on it. I'm not negating the importance of studies, the importance of research. None of that. What I am saying is we must be very cautious how we approach these sorts of topics. Because at the end of the day, when you talk about Obamacare or you talk about this, that, or the other, whatever, whatever topic it falls under, believe your eyes. Believe what you can see. Be aware of what you're facing up against. And do not allow people who are in these sorts of positions to convince you otherwise. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're going to jump over and talk about Klein ISD. Uh, there's been several different gun incidents in the district. Now, parents are, of course, organizing, saying, hey, this is getting out of hand, it's becoming a real problem. We need to address it. We'll talk all about that parent organization as well as a lot of the gun incidents that have been happening over in Klein ISD. When we get back from the break, if you would like to text in, let us know your thoughts. The number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Armed Self Defense And GOA Pitch
SPEAKER_12Now, a newly formed group of families is pushing for answers and stronger security measures. The group calls itself the Klein ISD Parent Safety Coalition, and members say they plan to hold a community meeting this week, this upcoming week, to gather support and petition signatures aimed at prompting action from district leaders. For many parents in the district, recent events have added new anxiety to the daily routine of sending their children to school. Carly Cobb, a Klein ISD parent, has two children in the district, a third grader and a sixth grader. She says recent incidents have left many parents feeling uneasy. She said, I'm stressed, always stressed, and it's a terrifying thought. According to parents in the coalition, three separate firearm-related incidents occurred on Klein ISD campuses in a single week. These incidents include a student discharging a firearm inside a restroom at Klein Collins High School, an armed man wearing tactical gear entering Zwink Elementary School, through what parents say was an unsecured door. I believe they said that someone walked out of it and then he was able to walk in. But regardless of the reason why, it was very clearly a security oversight. Regardless of which way you spin it, I know that the district uh wants to play this sort of pedantic game where they say, no, our doors are all the way they should be. We're following all laws and regulations, but uh unfortunately, you know, there it was just uh it was just an oversight. It was just a somebody else walked out and then this guy walked in. Regardless, that happened. Uh a student also brought a handgun onto the campus of Klein High School. And so this mother who's a part of this, she said the second he gets to his bus stop, he texts me talking about her son. Even though I get notifications from the school district, it still gives me some sense of, okay, he's gonna be fine because he's on the bus. Now, of course, the parents are organizing for these changes. Uh the Klein ISD Parent Coal parent safety coalition plans to host a community meeting tomorrow night at the Memorial Northwest Community Center. Organizers say they plan to collect signatures for a petition urging the district to adopt safety and strong stronger safety measures. Some of the changes parents say they want include installing metal detectors on campuses, additional safety training for school staff, increasing the number of police officers assigned to campuses. Uh, she said metal detectors are a must, training the staff maybe even more police officers on duty. Organizers say the meeting is open to all client ISD families and community members who want to share concerns or support the effort. And so the coalition says that it has also sent a formal demand letter to district leaders and state lawmakers asking for a written response within 14 days outlining how they plan to address the community's concerns. And so I got a couple things to say about this because I I have long held uh that there are two ongoing issues in our public school system that is resulting in these sorts of concerns from parents. And we know it can't just be one issue because we know it can't just be that there's not strong enough security. Because if you were to look back not so very long ago at school campuses, there used to be far far fewer safety measures that were that were involved in producing safety at schools. Right? You didn't have metal detectors, you didn't have a bunch of police officers on campus, you didn't have all this training, and yet schools were safer, less students were in danger. Why? Well, there's two different things that are contributing to this crisis, and both are very important to acknowledge if we want to address the issue head on. The first, as we were highlighting earlier in the show with the rodeo and everything else going on, is the cultural side of the issue. Uh, because one of the main results of all of this has unfortunately been that over time our culture has been degraded, has been changed. And so, you know, they talk about how well students shouldn't have access to firearms, you need them in a lockbox, but that didn't used to be the case. It used to be that your kids were fully competent around firearms. They didn't have specific training courses, but they knew how to handle a firearm. They knew what firearm safety looked like. Uh plenty of plenty of students, high school students, used to have gun racks on their trucks, they used to be hunters. There was never a problem in many of these school districts with, well, the kids have access to a gun. This could be bad. No, this wasn't a concern at all for people because they knew that the students are trustworthy and that the culture that we are creating surrounding our kids was one in which this was all normalized. And there wasn't some sort of criminal crisis. There wasn't some sort of violent crisis in our country. You didn't have to be worried about school shootings. This is why, whenever the left comes out and says, Well, it's the guns, it's like, no, we used to have guns. It didn't used to be in lockboxes, kids knew how to use them, kids had access to them, and it was not a problem for much of our history. This is a relatively recent phenomenon that we're dealing with this sort of violence at at just disproportionately high rates. It's not because of the guns. Because there have always been guns, there's always been access to guns. That's not changed. The only real change on the student side of the issue, on the shooting side of the issue, of the danger side of the issue, has been the culture. Has been this propensity for violence. And of course, there are a number of reasons contributing to that. I I could not possibly in a in a short segment discuss the cultural issues that are contributing to violence in our country. I I I am incapable of producing such an answer quickly. I I could give you a couple of big reasons, uh, from the criminal justice system to everything related to what we believe about right and wrong, to how students are educated, to training, all these different things that are all kind of contributing to the crisis. But it would it would require hours to do a deep dive into understanding the cultural degradation that's resulted in this. But the other side of this, as I've been saying now for years, is that teachers should certainly be armed. They should be capable of defending their classrooms so that the parents have a level of understanding and saying, hey, you know what, I I feel like my child is safe. There was a teacher who cares about them who would defend them. Right? That that is an important step in the right direction as the teachers are trained and teachers are armed. Uh you wouldn't need, quote unquote, more police officers if you had trained and armed staff. That's an easy step in the right direction. And both of these coexist. Fixing the culture and fixing the setup of the classroom are both very important facets if we want to protect our students. There's also a third option, right? Just by the way, I since it's an available opportunity, also a third option for everybody out there is I'm not ever going to be stressed about sending kids to public school because I'm never going to send kids to public school. Just so everyone's clear, you can make sure that your kids are safe by keeping them at home. Of course, you you know, there's always a level of you don't know if someone's gonna break in, though that doesn't usually happen. Doesn't usually happen in the middle of the day. Uh, but you you never know. But what I can tell you is that your students are far safer in your home than they are being, you know, riding a bus where I we know that there's been stories of people stopping buses and trying to get on. We know that there's it's at every level that there's a level of concern for student safety. We are all well aware of that. That's again not hidden. It's very obvious. And so, of course, keeping your students away from school in general is not a bad idea if you're you're uh to the utmost concern about their safety. But all this falls under one other really important banner, and I'm sure you know what it is, and that is our rights to defend ourselves. Because those are God given, they cannot be taken away by the government, but they just so happen to also be constitutionally enshrined uh in the Bill of Rights. We understand that we have constitutional rights to defend ourselves, to keep and bear arms that shall not be infringed. And unfortunately, when you have these safety parent safety coalitions, you have groups that are anti-gun groups, what you often will find is that much of the safety measures that they that they propose are often related to a stricter regulation surrounding firearms. Rather than acknowledging the real issues, rather than acknowledging the actual solutions, instead they say, no, no, no, less guns, fewer guns. That's that's what we really need is fewer guns out there. The answer to that is uh twofold. One, that's not going to solve the issue of violence on campus. It is most certainly not, and I can promise you that you're not gonna feel that much better about it because if that guy had walked into Zwink Zwinky elementary school with tactical gear and an axe and machetes, people still would have been freaked out. Rightfully so. Because you know it's not the guns, it's the person that you're concerned about. And you may have that tool or you may have another, and you're still gonna be just as concerned. The other side of that is you don't get to take away my rights because evil people do evil things. That's not how the right that's not how rights work. Rights are not determined by what evil people do. And so I those rights cannot and should not be stripped away from us. But that also requires, importantly, someone standing up for those rights. And that's where our sponsor that you should join, Gun Owners of America, comes in. Gun Owners of America understands two very important things. One, that a the a bad guy with a gun is almost always, if not always, stopped by a good guy with a gun. And they also understand that our rights are not predicated on the actions of other people. And those two things in tandem mean that they are going to fight tooth and nail every single day to make sure that your rights are supported and defended. And of course, they have a variety of mechanisms they use to do that. Uh that means campaigning for candidates who are actually in support of the Second Amendment to get into office and to keep their promises they made on the campaign trail, holding them accountable. It also means lobbying in open legislature for good bills to get their their day in in on the floor, to get heard, debated, and passed. They also lobby against bad bills that would violate your rights. They also are willing, if it must be necessary, to sue the government or or different facets of the government in order to protect those rights, such as the ongoing lawsuit against the NFA and the DOJ. And so if you would like to join, if you'd like to become a member, it is an annual membership of$25 per year. You can go to GOAHuston.com to become a member. Again, that is GOAHuston.com. It is a$25 annual membership, and that membership is the main way that gun owners of America can continue this fight, can continue the staunch defense and support of your Second Amendment rights one more time. That is GOAHuston.com. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about the border wall. Because there's now uh apparently been some ongoing debate surrounding the border wall, especially specifically in Big Bend, uh, where there's been this opp this opposition uh because the people are concerned that it would, you know, devastate the infrastructure, devastate the the the cultural heritage of the area. And that's all bad. And so obviously, we can't build a a wall through Big Bend National Park. Terrible, terrible idea. We'll talk all about the opposition and and the alternatives that they're weighing right now when we get back from the break. Text in 713-779-5978. Let us know your thoughts on any of this stuff or anything that you want to hear reported on again. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative.

SPEAKER_16Have you thought about buying a gun or even carrying a gun? But you don't know if that's smart or where to start. I can help. I'm Tom Gresham, host of Gun Talk. Call in Sundays between 1 and 4, right here on Houston's Leader for Gun Owners, Patriot Talk 920.
SPEAKER_12So So basically, there's this growing concern about the construction of a physical border wall in the Big Bend region. And now the Trump administration's smart wall map shows the use of modern protective detection technologies in the area. Local officials, business owners, and citizens strongly have spoken out against the proposed border wall, saying it would result in damage to public recreation, wildlife, rural economies, cultural resources, and the integrity of our natural heritage, which would be irreversible. A letter sent last week by business and conservation groups to ranking members of both the U.S. and Senate committees on appropriations requested that federal funds not be used to build a border wall within the boundaries of Big Bend National Park or Big Bend Ranch State Park, and in areas that would impair public access to the Rio Grande within these park units. State Representative Wes Verdell, who has voiced concern on the proposed project, posted that although he completely supports a border wall, he believes the construction of one in Big Bend is a bad idea. He said we have a duty to protect this country from invaders, but we also have a duty to preserve our amazing landscapes. We have the technology and ability to enforce a secure border in Big Bend without putting a wall there. I hope level heads prevail instead of doing irreversible damage. And so the U.S. Department of Homeland Security waived several federal environmental regulations last month to grant construction crews access to the Bend Bend area. In that waiver, DHS cited statistics showing that between fiscal years 2021 and 2025, the area saw nearly 90,000 attempted illegal boarding crossings, and authorities seized over 89,000 pounds of marijuana, cocaine, methamphetamine, heroin, and fentanyl. And so uh outgoing DHS Secretary Christine Noam wrote, as the statistics cited above demonstrate, the Big Ben sector is an area of high illegal entry where illegal aliens regularly attempt to enter the United States and smuggle illicit drugs. And given my mandate to achieve and maintain operational control of the border, I must use my authority under Section 102 of IIRIRA, which is the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act, to install additional barriers and roads in the Big Bend sector. Therefore, DHS will take immediate action to construct additional barriers and roads in a segment of the border in the Big Bend sector. Also, last week a possible change in CBP's plans for the region was signaled after removing a large section of the area from a proposed building plan as the areas surrounding the Preseto, Alpine, Sanderson, and Comstock AOR area are now marked to utilize detection technologies, which there's sort of this tech that allows you without building a technical physical wall to keep track of people that are crossing in these areas. Sort of a compromise, if you will, to still have some sort of security over the area without building a physical wall through the area. Now, my position on this is going to, at least at first glance, appear radical. And so I'm I'm giving that prerequisite, I'm giving that little PSA, I'm letting you know right now. My position on this is actually rather radical. Because I actually think it's quite fun to do this. I actually think there's a third door. I don't think it's build a wall through Big Ben. And, you know, I I actually think that's a terrible idea, personally. I the the more the more that I've thought about it, the more that I think that that's an unwise idea. Um I'm a big Teddy Roosevelt fan, which if you don't know, Teddy Roosevelt was a a huge environmentalist and not in the current leftist sense where it's all about climate change. It was more about preservation and saying, actually, there's a lot of natural beauty and we should not be building apartment complexes in the middle of the Grand Canyon. It was it was that sort of position, right? I actually don't think that we should reduce the natural beauty that God has given us in this country for us just to do whatever we want. And I actually agree with that wholeheartedly. And so my position on this is actually not um you you you might assume, based on my conservative beliefs, that we should build a wall through Big Ben. I actually don't think we should. And I'll explain what I do think we should do. Number one, I I do think that the technol detection technology is quite cool. I I do think that that is a phenomenal step one in the right direction is to go ahead and put that detection technology in the area so that we can at bare minimum keep track of all these things. But uh number two, the second part of this is where things might appear to get a little bit risque, if you will. They might get uh appear to get a little bit radical because I actually think that one of two things needs to happen. And and I actually I'm not overly concerned with which one. I I'm concerned with both as long as we have presidents who are willing to maintain this, it'll work out either way. Our border at every place of entry needs to be totally and completely secure. There should not be a single person making it through, right? That means dealing with the tunnels, that means dealing with the wall, that means dealing with at every port of entry there being good agents who are trained to recognize issues, dogs, all of that. But that means if there's an area where we have this sort of natural beauty that we don't want to violate by putting up a big wall in the middle of it, I understand. How about we dictate to Mexico certain demands? Uh because Mexico, as it turns out, actually relies on the US a lot and are a lot weaker than we are. And uh, I don't want to pretend to be the bully on the playground, but sometimes, sometimes if you really need that lunch money. I'm I'm half kidding. But it kind of is like that, except for the lunch money is actually crucial to our survival as a nation. Here would be my demands. And we can present them an ultimatum. You have two options. You're either going to build a wall, and I know this you could say this would result in in catastrophic, a catastrophic rift between the United States and Mexico, which there already is one. They actually created it by allowing this to go unfettered for so long, by allowing their side of the border to not be secure. They've actually done this to us. If you want to say anybody started it, it was not us. It was actually them. They did this to us. They allowed this to transpire in the first place. So it's not even like we're the bully. They were bullying, and it turns out that we're bigger than them, and they should they picked on the wrong person, right? Is that is actually more an appropriate analogy here, because it is their obligation to make sure that people are not crossing into our country, the same as this is ours to protect our country from them, right? That that that should be something that we demand of them. We have the full capability to do that. And so we should say, you're going to cover that side. We don't want to risk our natural beauty, so you're going to cover it. And if you don't, if your side of the border in these areas where we don't want to have to build a wall are not secured, then in the effort of preservation of ourselves and our land, we're going to take some of yours. I know that sounds crazy. I I know that it does, but I actually do believe I actually do think that we have an obligation to do this for our own people. If you're unwilling to secure your side of the border, then it's actually not on us when this goes wrong. It's actually on you. And we're willing to take whatever we need in order to build this wall without damaging our own country, without damaging our stuff. If you're unwilling to do your job as a nation, then I guess that we have to do it for you. We'll come into your country and we'll set up shop. We're happy to do that. That we need to stop playing this game where it's all about being nice to people and oh, you don't want to risk some sort of conflict. You can't do that. No, there already this is the problem with people's perception. There already is a conflict. This is why if they don't accept the ultimatum at the start, that's where the conflict is. It's with them, not with us. For us, it's rather it's relatively simple. We want a secure border where people are not breaking into our country illegally. That's incredibly simple. It's something every country largely understands, every country, but apparently the US and now Europe, I guess the West in general. It's something we all understand. We want a secure border, and we don't want people who are here illegally to come here. It's very simple and straightforward. And you have an obligation as our neighboring country to aid in that effort for yourselves and for us. You don't want people coming in from other countries, we don't want people coming in from other countries. So secure your side of this, make sure that people are not crossing into our land, and if you're not willing to do that and do it well, then we'll come do it for you. And you can look at that and say, well, that would risk conflict. Yeah. I want to stop playing this game where we're the ones that are in charge of the conflict. I mean, this is this is so insane to me. How is this our fault at all? If they're not going to secure our border, if they're not willing to make sure that their people are not crossing into our land, and and and then we say, well, then we're gonna come in and we're going to do it. That's not us risking a conflict. This this is like someone's mugging you, and then you have to pull out your firearm to defend yourself. They say, You're risking a conflict. No, there's already a conflict, actually. I'm now having to defend myself. And you can say, well, this has been, you know, you've exacerbated the issue or you've escalated it. No, I'm defending myself. I have the full God-given right to do that. If your side is not willing to do your job and do it well, and we have to come do it for you, you don't get to point the finger at us and say, you guys are causing this conflict between two neighboring countries. No, you did it. It's your fault. And if you're not willing to, I I'm not gonna destroy my land. I'm not gonna destroy it in an effort to be nice to you when you weren't nice to me, actually. I'm willing to come in and say, then we're gonna set up shop. You got a problem with it, you can take it up with us. Feel free. See how that goes for you. See how fun it is poking the bear. Mess with the U.S. see what see what see what comes out of that. We've got to have a stronger mentality about this stuff because they've been taking advantage of us from our water. We know there's been an issue with with the water treaty that we've had with Mexico for a very long time. You've been taking advantage of us with the water, you've been taking advantage of us with the border, with illegal immigration, with drugs, with violence, with cartels, and we're done with that. You've been bullying us, and as it turns out, we're bigger than you. We hit a growth spurt over the summer, we're bigger than you, we're stronger than you. Decide if you still want to do that. And we've got to be willing to be that harsh. We have to be willing to play that game because they're playing it and and we're losing. And I don't think we should have to destroy our homeland to do it. With that being said, to wrap up the show, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over uh and uh wrap it up with a little Lena Hidalgo. And actually, this is coming out from Senator Paul Bettencourt, uh, who is now calling for Harris County Judge Lena Hidalgo to resign after her meltdown at the rodeo. He said, I'm very concerned about the erratic decision making and the way that she is presenting herself in public. We'll talk all about uh Paul Betancourt's uh comments. Bettencourt Calls For Hidalgo Resignation
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Texellent AC Service. So I want to read the full post put out over the weekend by Senator Paul Betancourt. I just want to read his Facebook post where he called for this. He said, Here, I'm just going to read the whole thing. It says, I called for Judge Lena Dalgo's resignation because of her latest bizarre behavior at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, and then her totally unfounded attacks on others, spewing nonsensical claims of racial bias as the basis for her personal actions at this year's rodeo. It is only the latest in a long line of incidents that Holly Hansen documents well in this solid The Texans story. Lena Dalgo made the decision not to run for re-election, and she should make the decision to resign. County residents do not get twenty-one free tickets validated at$9,000, plus the use of a free suite at the rodeo, and then get to go on a tirade because they were told no in advance about more special perks. Sho sh so she threw a temper tantrum on the dirt. Now the 2026 Houston Lifestyle Show and Rodeo has dropped her ex officio title and association due to her petulant and immature behavior. Here's the bigger problem. As county judge, she is, by the Texas Legislature statute, the head of the Office of Emergy Management for the nation's third largest county. We cannot just give the job to Mayor Whitmire if a category five or f a category four or five hurricane barrels down on us this summer, unfortunately. I watched both former county judges, Robert Eccles and Ed Emmett, make tough decisions about area evacuations that cost lives if not handled properly. By any objective measurement, Lena Adalgo does not have that same rational decision-making ability. The public would not even know if she would show up for duty. And this is a bipartisan problem for all to recognize. There needs to be a serious discussion with the Harris County Attorney's Office, interim attorney Jonathan Fombone, and the four members of the Commissioner's Court, uh that's Leslie Brianis, Adrian Garcia, Rodney Ellis, Tom Ramsey, about Judge Adalgo's duties as OEM, Office of Emergency Management head. I will carry any future legislative recommendations for changes in state statute as necessary.
