Your Dinner Table Shapes The Future
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Time doesn’t slow down for anyone, and that’s exactly why we open with a challenge: if our days are limited, where should our influence go first? We make the case that the dinner table is the front line of culture, because family discipleship and moral formation shape generations long after politicians and trends fade. For us, politics only makes sense when it’s anchored to an objective standard, and we’re not shy about naming that standard: the Gospel and the Word of God.
From there, we dig into Houston headlines with real stakes. We break down the HISD school board clash over sexually explicit books in school libraries and the moment an activist is stopped and removed for reading excerpts deemed “inappropriate” for a public meeting. If adults can’t hear it, why can kids access it? We also cover a Harris County deputy indicted for murder in a fatal gas station shooting, and what due process and accountability should look like when law enforcement use of force becomes a criminal case.
We shift to practical help with Medicare Monday featuring Justin White from Senior Health Services, clearing up Medicare enrollment myths, Medicare penalties, and when you actually need to sign up at 65 if you’re still working with employer coverage. Then we tackle IAH TSA lines stretching for hours during a partial government shutdown, Trump’s plan to deploy ICE to assist TSA, and how immigration enforcement fights are shaping daily life. We close with a hard conversation about an HISD teen shot after exiting a school bus and what real solutions look like beyond talking points, plus a court move freezing a MUD tied to the Epic City development fight.

HISD Book Fight And Police Removal
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellent AC Service. Here on another Monday, the start of another week, really the last full week of the month of March. As of course, next week we'll be getting into April, which can I just I I say this at the end of I think every month, but the fact that we remember it so vividly, like I said it yesterday, is kind of the proof of what I'm about to say, which is time flies. And not, by the way, just when you're having fun, sometimes when you're not having fun, turns out time still flies, which is kind of sad if you think about it. But time does fly. And that makes everything that we're doing here on the show, here at the station, and here in our lives all the more important because I think that how fast these months move by, how fast we end up in another month, another year, another legislative session, whatever it is, however fast that happens, however fast we feel like that happens, should be a very important reminder to each and every one of us that our time to do all of this stuff is not a lot. We don't have all of the time. Because time is not boundless. It's not endless, especially our time. And, you know, that's why I've told a lot of people, right? This is why I tell for most people, in fact, almost for all people, that the number one th impact that you can have in general is around the dinner table. The reason why I believe that's so important is because our time here on Earth is very short. There's not a lot of it. And once we're gone, there's only a few options. Either everything we did can ultimately be, let's say, meaningless. Everything we did ends up falling on deaf ears, and the world moves in a direction that, you know, is the exact opposite of what we fought for. Or our legacy means something. When we're gone, the principles that we espoused stick around in future generations. That the things that we believed, the things that we taught, the things that we spoke on, the things that we influenced move in the right direction. And of course, for almost all of us, we hope it's the second option. A lot of people believe that when they're gone, that the things that they fought for will continue to be fought for. That the people they left behind will continue to push in the same direction that they pushed. But that requires something very important. It requires that the impact you have on people lasts. It requires the things you say are truly taken to heart. And the number one group of people you have, as a sort of captive audience, if you will, at your disposal is your family. The people you have that you are ultimately in charge of, that you are ultimately able to influence well, are the members of your family. And that's why the biggest impact, likely that most of us will ever have, right, is is on our children. Because by extension, not only are we having an impact on our children, I saw a video the other day. It was it was quite beautiful. Um, almost kind of video that wants to bring you to tears as you watch it. You have this great grandmother still alive, her husband's past, great grandmother still alive, and she's sitting in the middle of this group of people. She had, I think, ten children. They all got married and they all had kids. Many of them uh were were, you know, they had ten kids of their own. And so you had something like 70 kids in in this in this grandkid group, and then you had the great-grandkids. The grandkids had kids. Um, many of them were young enough, they still had two or three kids, some had four or five, but you had hundreds of people in this in this group, in this as this video panned out, all from this great-grandmother who had children. And all of them were happy, all of them were joyful, all of them were smiling. And the reminder to all of us uh is the the immediate impact we can have just by raising our children well, that in our lifetime we can even see the fruits of that labor. That we can see potentially dozens of people who, by extension, are part of the Christian faith, who are part of the conservative movement. Uh, that's why Charlie Kirk so heavily believed in influencing the younger generation, because he understood that hearts and minds of the young people must be captured if we want any chances at success. That we must fight hard now for those who have more time than us. And every day that we, you know, get older, every day that time seems to move more quickly, every week we reach another week, every every week, you know, it seems like we're reaching another month. I know it's more like four weeks, but you get my point. We should be reminded again that we need to have as big an impact as possible in as short a time as possible. And not to ramble, but the number one way we can do that is through our families, is through raising our children in the fear and the admonition of the Lord, is by continually teaching our children the truth, our children, our grandchildren, our great grandchildren, so that the third and the fourth and the fifth generations, all the generations ahead, you know, that come ahead of us that come after we're gone, believe the same things we believe. Maybe are even more radical than we are, maybe believe even more fervently in a return to tradition, in a return to traditional values, into a time of true American greatness, into true American exceptionalism. But that requires effort, it requires intent, it requires not diddling our thumbs and not sitting idly by as these things are happening. It also requires that we're informed as to what's happening in our world. I know there's a lot of people who believe, yes, we need to impact the younger generations, but I I I want to stay as far away from the mainstream culture as possible. The culture is is broken, it is lost, and we need, if anything, to remove ourselves from that culture. We need to be not a part of the world. We need to flee from all of the stuff going on in the world around us. And and by the way, that's an absolutely terrible strategy. By the way, that doesn't work. It doesn't fix anything. It actually makes things worse because then the people who actually could have an impact have fled their ability to do so. And so all of this to say that our time is short and we must use it to its fullest potential if we want any chance at winning. Not just in our lifetime, but once we're gone. And of course, this is all a Christian notion in general, because if you're an atheist, if you believe that ultimately your life ends the moment that you pass away on your deathbed, and that nothing you did really matters because the world as you know it is over, because you're gone, that sort of belief set that'll lead to tremendous pain. That will lead to a tremendous lack of effort. That will lead to a tremendous amount of people who are unwilling to fight for the future that they may not see. And as Christians, we're called to fight for a future we can't see. We're not God. We don't know what the future holds, but we do know that God has called us to fight, called us to fight hard for the truth. Uh, sometimes even unto death. I know we live in a luxurious first-world country where as of yet, as of now, the right to worship Christ freely is still largely around here, as it's not in many countries, unfortunately. And we have the ability because of that, because of those protections, because of our religious liberty, to speak the truth. And that means that we can't be shy about it. That means that we can't be afraid of what people will think of us. It means we cannot wallow in fear and self-pity, uh, that we are in the minority, or that we feel like sometimes we're in the minority. But then we're reminded that God has called us something greater than being a part of the majority, that God has called us something greater than being on center stage and being popular by nature of our beliefs, but he's called us to speak the truth regardless of that popularity, regardless of the success we see today or tomorrow, or in the month of April, or in the month of May or June or July, or 2026 or 2027, or the 2020s or the 2030s, right? As you extend out, we are called to something greater than that success. We are called to the worship of the one true and living God. And we must fight for that truth. One way we have to do that is by promoting Christianity. And by the way, the promotion of Christianity is in its very nature exclusive. It is in its very nature discriminatory to a degree, in the sense that other religions are automatically at war with Christianity. And this is not new. If you can you can look very simply at the early church, take a look at Nero, take a look at Rome, take a look further out at the Crusades, you can see that for much of world history, Christianity has automatically been at odds with whatever the mainstream culture was, that Christianity has automatically been at war in one way or another with whatever the beliefs are of a certain time period. And we face the same thing today, by the way. Um we we know that we're we're facing the same sort of disgusting, perverted evil that would like to see us taken out of the fight altogether. Again, we mentioned Charlie Kirk. That's exactly why what happened to Charlie happened. Because they desire nothing more than to see us taken out of the fight permanently. Um what they don't realize is that at any time in world history, there are always been, there have always been and there will be, I believe this, men who are willing to die for the truth. Men who are willing to give everything for their beliefs, for what's right. And that means that when we are discriminated against, when we are called mean names, when we are threatened, and we don't back down, we don't become apologetic about our beliefs, but we stand on them anyways. And to kind of highlight that, I want to bring up uh that here in Houston, you had this prominent conservative activist who was removed by the police from an HISD school board meeting. A group of parents and community advocates spoke at this past Thursday night's Houston Independent School District Board meeting to raise concerns about sexuality, sexuality, sexually explicit books, profane books that are available in district school libraries. Among the speakers, you had Pastor Rick Scarborough, Vanessa Sivage, Denise Bell, and Bonnie Wallace, uh, who joined local residents in calling for stronger content review standards for HISD library books. As we're all well aware, HISD is the largest school district here in the state of Texas, which is already one of, of course, the largest states. Among uh, you know, Wallace, Bonnie Wallace, one of the speakers, who is a high-profile activist here in the state of Texas, attempted to read an excerpt from a book called A Court of Silver Flames, one of the contested books that's allowed in the school libraries. She had to read it aloud. She tried to read an excerpt from the book in front of the school board. Board members instructed her to stop citing meeting decorum rules, gave her two warnings, and then had her escorted from the room by police after she returned to her seat. According to Wallace, she was invited back in 2024 by Bastard Richard Vega, who recently won the Republican primary for Harris County Commissioner Precinct II, to inform a group of citizens about harmful content accessible to minors in Houston ISD. Following that meeting, the entire group attended an HISD board meeting, were each read from books on the school library shelves. Not a single one of those speakers or books were removed. Now, regarding the meeting back on Thursday, Wallace said she was hopeful that Superintendent Miles would listen carefully and then approach the problem with a solution which had already been provided by the Texas legislature with both HB 900 and SB 13. Critics have, of course, long argued that if board members decline deemed book content too explicit for adults in a public meeting, it should be obvious, it should be very clear to everybody, okay, maybe these then are books that we should not have in our school libraries. Maybe if you have to cite decorum rules for not reading these books in a public meeting, maybe that should give you a little pause. These books are allowed to be read by children. Maybe that should be the line where you say, perhaps this is too much for our kids to be reading. Um she said supporters of parental review policies echoed calls for for oversight of school materials and adherence to state laws governing age-appropriate content. She said, quote, books that contain profane, indecent, or sexually explicit content are illegal in Texas public schools. She also contends that the actions taken by HISD officials compound the problem. Quote, school boards shut down dialogue and insist that the excerpts read to them are inappropriate. We must do better. In a post following the meeting, Denise Bell wrote, We must take action to protect our children from harmful content. They deserve the best literature possible, not filth, following the law's requirement, not a suggestion. Of course, as always, each speaker was allotted about one minute to address the board. According to Bell, her prepared statement included a plan to read a passage from The Haters, a young adult novel currently available in several HISD high schools. She described the book as containing 196 F-bombs and said it was inappropriate for teenagers. Meanwhile, they up somebody approached the TEA, the Texas Education Agency, to ask what's going on with HISD. Are they allowed to like throw you out of school for reading a book that's or are they allowed to throw you out of a board meeting for reading a book that is literally in the schools? And of course, they said that it was a local matter, that they had no authority there. Um and HISD, of course, has not responded to any requests for comment, but that's not shocking. HISD has not been, let's say, fully transparent in the way that they respond to the media. This is why they started their own media something like a year ago, because they wanted to produce their own results and not have to reply uh to local or statewide media. But I bring all this up to kind of highlight what we were going over uh a few minutes ago, which is that in many cases, merely speaking the truth will have you thrown out of a board meeting. They'll cite whatever they want, whether that's lack of decorum, discrimination, racism, Islamophobia, xenophobia, bigotry, whatever they, whatever label they want to attach to your specific actions at yours at the specific time at which you you read them, will be attached to you. And they will use it as an excuse to remove you from the conversation, to remove, to remove your ability to speak the truth. They'll do that. They'll happily do that. They'll do that without blinking an eye. They they will do that without a moment of hesitation if they feel like they're allowed to, and they continually get away with this. And by the way, the most shocking part of this for for many of us should be that not only are these things in the school, right? That that that of course should be shocking in and of itself. When you when you hear some of these excerpts, you should immediately think it is absolutely insane that anybody, period, is allowed to read this book. Because we do all understand there's a reason that you have the decorum rules. We all fundamentally understand that there are some things that are so vulgar, so profane, and so sexually explicit that no one should read them. Right? As as especially as Christians, as conservatives, we understand it it's not a good thing that you have anything you could possibly want. Sometimes there are things that are bad that we should not have access to, that are actually bad for the culture in general. And some of these books certainly fall on that list, so much so that they're willing to throw someone out of a meeting for reading the book. You're you're you're going to be escorted out by the police for merely reading it. But the craziest part of this is that the very same thing that we have conservative activists being thrown out of school boards for reading are the very same things they're totally content with your kids reading, are the very same things they're totally content with children having access to. If it's so bad that you're willing to have police remove someone from the room because they said something so vulgar it could not be read in public, then why in the world are children allowed access to this sort of reading, to this sort of language, to this sort of content? If it's so vulgar that it's impossible to read it in public and not be removed by police for breaking rules of decorum, then why is it in our schools in the first place? And of course, the leftists, the school boards, they don't have an answer for that question. They're not even willing to answer that question. In fact, if you bring up that question with evidence, which of course is the book itself, you get removed. You can't actually ask those sorts of questions. But the reality is we have to continue speaking the truth regardless. We have to continue fighting this fight because if we don't, no one's going to. We're we're the last line of defense here. We're all that's left. We're we're the ones now who have to stand up and who have to do this. No one's coming to save us. It's us, right? God has called us. He's put us here in this time, in this place, for this moment. He's called us to speak the truth. He's called us to fight this fight. And so we have to. Even if that means that we get thrown out of school board meetings, even if that means that we get removed and escorted out by police, even if that means being threatened with arrest or or with whatever threats they want to throw around, Christianity is not shocked by threats of violence or by threats of torture or by threats of arrest or by threats of facing penalties under the law. This is not new, it's not foreign to us, we're well aware, but it requires that we that we're aware of that, and that we continue to speak the truth anyways, because these things have got to come to an end. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about a Harris County deputy who has now been indicted for murder in a fatal shooting last year of a man at a gas station. The Sheriff's Office is now also moving to terminate the deputy following the criminal indictment. We'll talk more about the indictment, some of the background of that case, kind of what happened uh as a justification for the termination and the criminal indictment of this individual when we get back. If you would like to text into the show here this week or preferably this morning, uh whether that's a disagreement, something that I've said, something that you want to highlight, something that you want me to go over, a question that you've got that you want to ask, feel free to do that. Our number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Don't go anywhere, because I'll be right back with that story, with that indictment after the break.

SPEAKER_12This story may have to hold until the next segment because I've got a text in that I want to read and I want to cover. It says, Good morning, Michael. Yesterday and morning before church, I was listening to several sermons by Brian Sovay. If you don't know who Brian Sauvey is, I highly recommend you check that guy out. They have a church up in, I believe, Ogden, Utah, and they're doing such a phenomenal job between the podcasts they run, the publishing company they have called New Christendom Press. Um just a phenomenal group of guys up there that are doing great work spreading the gospel. Anyways, the the text continues in one of his sermons, the week that Charlie Kirk was killed, he mentioned that because of Charlie's reach, he shared the gospel with more people than he, Brian, and his church probably ever will in their lifetimes. I thought immediately about your show and how you so frequently share the gospel, and I just wanted to thank you for being a vessel of God's goodness. Have a great day. First of all, uh there there's there's literally no greater compliment. If you if you're ever wondering, you know, how you know, how can I compliment a person? This is something that I've I've kind of talked about before. But each each individual person has something that they want to be great at. Like everybody has this thing. Uh that when they're compliment on it, it gives them a special sort of self-confidence, let's say. Um and you can usually tell this by just knowing somebody and kind of knowing what they like doing. And you can usually find out pretty quickly how someone wants to be complimented, right? The kind of thing that if you say it to a person, uh they'll feel especially grateful for the compliment. If you're if you're ever wondering what sort of compliment I I that that does that to me, that's that's the most important that immediately makes me feel like I'm doing a good job, I can tell you the number one compliment is going to be that I'm doing a good job sharing the gospel through my show. That that I am succeeding at my number one goal, more important than political influence, uh, more important than changing a single election.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_12All of those things I think are outflowing effects of this thing. I think that those will be the end result of all of this. Uh, but my number one goal, the thing that I I try to achieve more than anything else, is that I use whatever platform God gives me, whether that's a radio show, a podcast, a speaking event, whatever it is, I use that as a mechanism for preaching the gospel. Because all of my beliefs uh about the world, about politics, about conservative and traditional values, all of those things only come because of my faith in Christ. That that that's where the entirety of my worldview comes from. That's where the entirety of my belief system comes from. Everything comes out of that. And so any position I have on capital punishment, on criminality, on the justice system, on immigration, on LGBTQ issues, on sexually explicit books in schools, uh, in the way that schools should operate, in the spending of taxpayer money, all of those things are ultimately outflowing effects of my belief in the word of God and the legitimacy of that word. And so I I want to say first and foremost, thank you for for letting me know that that that's that that's being that's being heard over the air. Uh that it is quite clear that my show is one where the gospel is not gonna be, you know, sidelined, it's not gonna be put to the side as we discuss other issues that I feel like are more important, that it's not gonna be something that's kind of in the background of all these conversations, but that it's at the forefront of everything that I say. It's it's well informed. You can't say I didn't warn you this show is not merely a political one, it is a religious and political show. Because I believe that you can't really be a good political show if you don't have some sort of objective backing for the things that you're claiming. Some sort of objective standard by which you are weighing everything that you claim to believe. That's why you guys know I cannot stand the politicians who claim to be Christian and then turn around in the same breath they say they're Christians and they want your vote as a Christian, right? They they kind of play up that they're they're Christian so they can get your vote, then turn around and say, Yeah, but I'm not gonna bring my Christianity into the legislative room. I'm not gonna bring my Christianity into the courtroom. I'm not I'm gonna leave my Christianity, I'm gonna check it at the door, uh, so that I can be fair to everyone in the way that I make policy. That's insane. It's not a Christian ethic at all. It's not a Christian belief whatsoever, and you should never do that. And so first and foremost, thank you. Uh second of all, i I think Brian is quite right on this. Charlie Kirk had amazing reach. And unlike a lot of the people these days that have a lot of reach and a lot of influence, who again kind of shy away from the Christian themes uh in lieu of only speaking about politics, which I don't know how they even do that, because again, I don't know what your political standard could even be if you're not basing it on Christ. But they do this, uh, where Christianity kind of again falls to the side, isn't really talked about much, and instead it's just whatever the modern issue is, and they look at it through whatever lens they choose to look at it through, and then they leave God over there in that corner, and they turn around and they start talking about whatever the political issue is. And my number one issue with that, and the reason why I applaud Charlie Kirk is that as Christians, we are called, our number one goal should be it's not that it just that mine is, our number one goal should be that the gospel of Jesus Christ gets spread to the ends of the earth. That that's our number one goal. And if anything we're doing overshadows that, if anything we're saying or we're claiming or we're fighting for becomes more important to us uh than the word of God, then we've made a fatal error. Then then we have jeopardized our testimony and our reach. Because God has, of course, called us to have influence in politics. I do heavily believe that God has called us to have things to say about our government, about our leaders, about those who are in elected positions of some sort of representative authority, that we're called to have an influence in that, but that that influence comes because of the gospel, not in spite of it. And if we're going to have the most influence we can have and the best influence we can have, it requires that we have influence to spread the truth of the gospel, that we have influence to spread the truth of the word of God and where we find the truth of politics from, where that where that comes from. Because it doesn't just come from us. I'm not a genius, I'm not the smartest guy in the room. I'm aware, and and I know that the beliefs that I have about things are not my own. I didn't make them up, I didn't come up with all these, you know, great ideas, right? These are not mine. Plagiarism, I suppose. They came from God. They came from words that have already been written down. I just try to apply them in the best way that I can to whatever's going on in a culture on a given day that we're gonna go over. I of course try to apply that to our lives, but that's that's where all of it comes from. And I'm not shy about that. I I've had people who said, Michael, maybe tone down the Christianity. I'm trying to listen to politics. No. I if if you want that, there are plenty of shows to go to, and I'm not trying to be rude or trying to say, you know, I I don't want to listen to any of what you have to say, and I I I'll hear you out. But I promise you, that's never gonna happen. Never ever is the Christianity gonna get toned down. It's never gonna come in second place. It's never gonna, you know, sit by the side while we're discussing anything else. It's not gonna happen because that's the most important part of this show. And without that, this show would cease to be important at all. And the same as Charlie said, I want I want all of us to be able to say the same thing. Uh, that if one day we are killed for our faith, that it was all worth it. That that if I'm so threatening because of of my my influence and my ability to preach the gospel to a wide spectrum of people, uh to a group of people that may not hear it anywhere else, if that's what's happening and they have to kill me for it, then so be it. May the Lord be glorified in that. And in fact, I hope, I hope one day I'm threatening. I hope one day people look at the things I'm saying and say, that's that's a real problem right there, because that's how they viewed Charlie Kirk. That's that's a problem. This guy is influencing young people not just to be more conservative, not just to be more traditional in nature, but to follow Christ. That's that's the number one thing that Charlie's gonna be remembered for is his ability to lead people to Christ. And we should all be using our reach, whatever that looks like, right? Like obviously, I have a radio show where I can do that to a lot of people here in Houston, uh, people that listen to the podcast, which by the way, a quick pitch. Uh, if you ever miss part of the show or you want to go back and hear what I was talking about, you can always check out our podcast stuff every day. Uh just search the Lone Star Conservative on Apple Podcasts or Spotify, you'll find it there. But regardless of who's listening to my show, of course I have that sort of reach. But everybody has a sort of reach. Whether that's in the workplace or in your neighborhood, or you're on some sort of HOA committee, right, whatever it is, you've got the ability to preach the gospel to people every single day of your life. And if you're not taking that opportunity and using it, then there's a problem. If any of us aren't doing that, there's a problem. And so again, I appreciate the text and thank you for the compliment. I'm taking it wholeheartedly because I do believe in what we're doing here. I do believe uh in the fact that everything that I have, everything that God has given me, I I kind of spoiled it there, but has been given to me by God. Right? None of this is is by my own hand. None of this, none of the opportunities that I got to be on a radio show, none of the opportunities that I got to run this program as I see fit came of my own accord. I I did nothing to deserve this, I did nothing to earn it, I didn't pursue some degree and then play the game to end up finally having an opportunity to be interviewed for being a co-host on a show. God gave me this. And what kind of man, what kind of Christian would I be if I then didn't use that to preach the truth of the gospel? A failure is the only correct answer to that question. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and next segment we're gonna talk about this Harris County deputy who's been indicted for murder now following a fatal shooting back in 2025. If you would also like to text in, let us know your thoughts or offer a compliment. The number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. And I'll be right back with that story after this short break. Stick around, we'll talk soon.

SPEAKER_20The Medicare Minute with Justin White is brought to you by Senior Health Services.
SPEAKER_04If you are of Medicare age or getting close or you have a loved one that is, be careful with those unsolicited phone calls that I know you know about. We get told about them all the time. What you need to know is that many of those phone calls are not even legal. They're coming from offshore call centers. Sometimes they're calling regardless of whether you're on the do not call list. Isn't that nice of them, by the way? It's really sweet of them to just do that because they are thinking that they can't get caught. Bottom line is when you get on there and you talk to them, they're already kind of operating sidelong of what should be done. And sometimes people end up in plans that they did not intend to enroll in. And so what do you do? Call somebody local. If you got a local agent, my gosh, call them and get in front of them. And if you don't have a good agent, think of an organization like Senior Health Services where you can sit down, talk about what you're looking for, and get the help that you need. You don't need to be talking to phone operators from other countries that you don't know who they are, where they are, or what in the world they're doing.

SPEAKER_12So a Harris County deputy has been indicted for murder in the fatal shooting of 36-year-old Levincer Swanson, who was shot to death outside a North Harris County gas station, according to the Harris County District Attorney's Office. The Harris County grand jury handed up an indictment charging deputy Aline Jimenez Barboza, who's 36, with murder after an internal affairs investigation found she violated multiple policies in connection with the 2025 fatal shooting. So, although we still don't have full details of the case, uh probably not until this goes to trial, according to initial reports of the shooting, back on February 7th, 27th, 2025, so a little over a year ago, deputies were dispatched to an Exxon gas station in response to a 911 call reporting that a man is behaving erratically and destroying the fuel pumps. Two deputies, including Barboza, approached the man, later identified as Swanson, and commanded him to lay on the ground. A physical struggle ensued, and Barboza fired two gunshots, striking Swanson, who later died from his wounds. Now, late last week, the Airs County Sheriff's Office Administrative Disciplinary Committee recommended the termination of Deputy Barboza. She was placed on non-law enforcement duty immediately following the shooting and had remained in that role until the termination decision. Barboza, who had been a Sheriff's Office employee since 2010, may now appeal her termination, which is her right under the civil service employment system. The Sheriff's Office publicly released body camera and other video footage of the incident last April. And so again, the claim here largely is that there was excessive force uh use in a case that that uh and this is rare, by the way, that it rises to the occasion of murder. Uh in many cases, when you have an officer involved shooting of any sort, um just due to the liability and the way that that officers are called to operate, even in a case where there was excessive force used, often it won't rise to murder charges because there's enough liability prevention that you look at a case like that and you say, Well, we wouldn't have done that. Well, I I probably wouldn't have shot the guy, but he was behaving erratically. And so in a lot of cases like this, you'll find that the charges usually don't exceed something a lot lower tier than something like, say, murder. Uh, but the fact that this case has gone that far, uh, that not only the officer has been terminated, but she's also facing a criminal indictment from a grand jury, by the way, no less, uh, which is which is just as a little bit of reference, means that you had people who heard the merits of the case and said, There's enough here to potentially see a conviction. There's enough evidence here that it's worth a murder trial, uh, which is a pretty, pretty high level of evidence required to get to that point in the first place. That's why everybody says, well, he was just indicted by a grand jury. I mean, it's just it's just a trial. I always like to highlight, of course, we still have due process, of course, we still have to go through with the trial process, of course, we still need to find out if proven guilty in a court of law, and that's not happened with a criminal indictment. But when you have a grand jury indictment, all of that evidence, or at least a lot of it, has already been seen by a group of people who've said there's a lot of evidence here that would that would dictate that something went awry, that something did not go correctly. And it's resulted in this sort of scenario. But let's be honest, right? This is this is again another very important reason for all of us being able to defend ourselves, right? It is because there are people who are gonna behave erratically. And regardless of these particular charges, there will be a lot of cases, especially we know this, having you know lived in Houston, you know, riding the metro, for goodness sake, whatever it is. We're all well aware there is quite a bit of danger, unfortunately, because of the lack of action from our criminal justice system that's resulted in more than ever our need to be able to proceed with self-defense. And we have the right to do that, by the way, but it requires that that right stays intact, and the only way to keep that right intact is for us to fight for it. And to again be willing to speak the truth, even when it's unpopular, even when it requires enormous dedication to that fight, uh, which is where our sponsor, Gun Owners of America, comes in. Gun Owners of America is not playing some social media political game where their only goal is to be popular. No, Gunners of America is dedicated to one fight and one fight only, and it's the fight to defend and support our Second Amendment rights. That we have the right to keep and bear arms, which shall not be infringed. That's why really they're the only large gun lobby in the US that truly believes in the in the premise of no compromise. And they can they can show that through a variety of ways, right? You can see that in who they campaign for, which candidates they're trying to get into office, who they can then hold accountable to what they said they'd do on the campaign trail. You can see that through the lobbying they do inside legislative sessions by fighting for good bills to be passed, and of course, for bills that would violate your rights, whether that's red flag laws or reducing liability, whatever that is, that those would be struck down. They also do that through court cases. They also initiate lawsuits against tyrannical government operations, things that are a violation of those rights. They'll sue to take that down. Uh, but that is not free. It is it does unfortunately come at a cost. Uh but that cost is your membership, is your willingness to support that fight. You can go to goahhouston.com to become a member. That is goahhouston.com. It is a$25 annual membership,$25 per year, uh, which, unlike most places you can spend it, you know what you're getting out of that twenty five dollars, and you know it's the continued support of your God given constitutionally enshrined rights. Again, that is G Oahhouston.com. With that being said, you guys are probably well aware we're coming up on the Bottom of the first hour. And what that means, as we're going to be on the bottom of the hour, is that's when we'll go over the weather. So in the next segment, when we get back from the break, we'll touch on the weather, what we have going on for today, temperatures, where we see the rest of this week going, maybe even past that. And then at the top of the next hour at 7 o'clock, we're going to have on Justin White from Senior Health Services for Medicare Monday, where we'll go over more updates to the Medicare system, what we see going on, what you need to be aware of, and why you need to reach out. If you even have questions to Senior Health Services. But when we get back from the break, to kick it off, we'll go over the weather before wrapping up the first hour of the show. SPEAKER_12There is one small interruption to the warmth that comes in the form of a weak cold front. The front will approach the Houston area today, when it will likely stall somewhere north of the Houston metro area between Huntsville and Conroe. North of the boundary, including parts of the Brazos Valley and Piney Woods, temperatures may briefly drop into the low eighties. However, areas along and south of the I-10 will remain firmly in the mid to upper eighties, that's most of us. The front is expected to lift back northward by tomorrow, allowing the warmer pattern to quickly resume. A strong upper level ridge, near record strength for this time of year, is going to remain parked over the region through the rest of this week. This pattern, which is often referred to as a heat dome, combined with steady southerly winds, will keep temperatures well above normal and humidity levels also elevated, which again you'll notice as soon as you walk out the door. Afternoon highs will generally reach the mid to upper eighties, about ten to fifteen degrees above average for this time of year. Coastal areas stay slightly cooler in the mid to upper seventies. Now, persistent onshore winds is also going to result in patchy areas of fog each morning, especially between four and seven AM. Coverage will be greatest along and south of the I-10 corridor, where visibility reductions may impact early commuters. Looking ahead to next weekend, another cold front may approach the region and offer a chance at more seasonable temperatures. However, confidence, of course, remains low. We're still far enough out that we don't have all the details on that. Nearly half forecast model suggests temperatures could still remain above the mid eighties by Sunday, indicating the front could again stall north of our actual area. For now, regardless of potential good news in the form of maybe some cooler temperatures, for now, what everyone needs to be aware of and prepared for, uh the because the dominant theme is quite clear, is an extended stretch of warm, humid, and summer-like weather across most of our area. Now, I will also highlight, since we're on the topic of kind of looking at the weekend, there is the possibility that we do have that cool front hit. If so, that's gonna bring temperatures out of the mid to upper eighties and down into the low eighties slash upper 70s for our area, um, which would also push next week into some possibility for some rain, uh, which would, of course, also would keep us in the low 80s, upper 70s area uh for a bit. But the lows are staying about the same. Lows are gonna remain in the 60s and low 70s, and those highs are gonna remain in somewhere in the 80s. So that's what you should be prepared for for the entirety of this week, most of next week, even if that rain comes in, even if we do get the cold front that is expected, that's still gonna keep those highs somewhere in the very upper 70s to the low eighties. So it won't be much of a change, if any, at all, if that does actually end up playing out. Now, like I was saying before we went to the last break, at the top of the next hour, we're gonna have our good friend Justin White from Senior Health Services coming on for Medicare Monday. Uh if you guys have never tuned in on a Monday at seven o'clock before, you're gonna be pleasantly surprised. Uh Justin White is an incredible fella, uh, and the the work that Senior Health Services does is nothing short of amazing. Um the the amount, the willingness that they have to be a part of the local community uh and to assist people here in the Greater Houston area, uh I would argue is unmatched. Uh you probably heard their ads on our station. And if you've ever missed out on a Monday, 7 o'clock interview, uh, then you're gonna enjoy that. So stick around. You're listening to Lone Star Conservative. If you would like to text in here during the bottom of the hour, top of the hour break, the number is the same. It's 713-779-5978. One more time. That is 713-779-KYST. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Don't go anywhere because we will return with Justin White from Senior Health Services at the top of the next hour. We'll talk soon.
SPEAKER_07From deep in the heart of Texas, comes Houston's God-loving patriot, the voice of reason. This is the Lone Star Conservative, Michael Wilson.
SPEAKER_17I'm a bandit. Let's all get banded tonight.
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellant AC Service. Online, we have Justin White from Senior Health Services here for Medicare Monday. Welcome to the show, Justin. Hey, brother. Good morning. Good to be here as always. Good to have you here as always. And I want to kick it off by talking a little bit about the fact that a lot of people, uh, when they come to Senior Health Services in general, I think one of the big things is just questions. Uh it's not always as as straightforward as, hey, I I I don't know about my plan. Can you explain it to me? Sometimes it's it's far, far more than that. Uh they have legitimate questions about when to get on Medicare, what that process looks like. Uh some people are, of course, scared about fines. They come as a result of not doing things on the right, on the right kind of deadline or time frame. Uh so I want to talk a little bit about some of those questions regarding those fines and what it looks like to get on programs.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. You almost, you know, that's probably our number one thing. People will call in absolutely mortified that they're about to be fined because they they talk to a friend or they talk to a doctor, and you know, they were told something like probably the most common what's come up lately is, you know, I was told I have to sign up for one part, either Medicare A or B or both, uh right at 65, no matter what, or I'm gonna be fined for the rest of my life. We hear that a lot. And the problem is, is it's it's just not true. Um, there's wiggle room, as you might imagine, around that and a lot of different things. And I thought we'd I thought we'd clarify it because it's it's not it's not easy to get fined. You almost have to try to get fined.
SPEAKER_12Right. They don't want to make it the the norm for people to be fined. Of course, it's when you do things really wrong. So can we uh these are two kind of, I don't want to say different conversations, but I want to hear both. Can we get off talking about the sort of process uh you mentioned that it's there's wiggle room. What does that look like at turning 65 in terms of if you must or mustn't sign up?
SPEAKER_05Great, great question. Well, a lot of people, as you probably are aware, are working beyond age 65 because of inflation, because of the cost of living, because they're trying to maximize their social security benefits, etc. So a lot of folks are just kind of ignoring 65 in terms of retirement and just going on from there and delaying you know social security until 67 or after, uh so that they can reach full retirement age and just maximize what monies that they have and build on that nest egg. And if somebody works for a company that's got more than 20 employees and they're on that group insurance, that is called predictable coverage, and they literally can enroll in Medicare if they want to, but it's not something can also say, you know what, I don't want to screw with this and I don't want to do it. And so they can stay on the group plan and pretend nothing's changed at all, and then we can come back in later on when they do actually turn 65 and when they're ready to retire, and we can circle back around and get it taken care of then. And now if it if there's less than 20 employees, that that changes the rules somewhat, and then we usually tell people go ahead and get your Medicare because there's little room and there are there are situations that could come up which where a fine will be levied. But that's really the main thing is the size of the employer group, and just sticking to your guns and asking the questions, and don't go in there and sign up for something you're gonna be paying for uh unnecessarily. You'll be overcovered, but my gosh, Part B's yeah, it's over$200 a month for most people. So you you want to make sure when you start paying for that uh that you actually need to.
SPEAKER_12Especially in this context, because of course we're talking about in this particular scenario, for instance, someone who's working past what would generally be considered the age of retirement because they need to make sure they have enough money. You don't be throwing two hundred dollars out the window when you're already in that particular position, right? Especially.
SPEAKER_05Exactly. Exactly. And we see it happen all the time. Happen all the time.
SPEAKER_12Because people just assume 65, you gotta get on Medicare, even if even if you already have group insurance with the employ, as most companies do, not all, but most companies that have over 20 employees. And so to kind of circle back around, the other side of this conversation is the fines themselves. I think a lot of people, of course, you mentioned they'll just get on it out of this fear, uh, this mortification where they're afraid of of being fined. What are the fines actually for? Well, what when does those at when do those actually come up?
SPEAKER_05You know, there's a term in our industry called adverse selection. And that that's like when somebody is standing on their curb watching their house burn down and they want insurance. That's that's adverse selection. The companies, of course, would go out of business immediately if they took that. Um same thing. You know, there's a hurricane rolling around offshore and it's supposed to hit land tomorrow, and everybody wants flood insurance, and that's why there's a 30-day wave, because insurance companies want to inherit they want to insure risk, but risk it's not happened yet, so that you know they have a viable business model, and people sometimes forget that. So the fans are really when somebody says, Well, you know, I've been healthy forever, I just don't want to I don't want to pay for Medicare because I'm healthy, so I'm gonna go with no insurance because I don't want to pay any money. And then when they get sick, of course, what do they want? They want insurance. So the government's deal is like, look, you didn't want to pay money into the system uh before you were sick, and now all of a sudden you get sick, and now you want other people to support you and your health conditions that have come up, come up, and that is where the fines come in. Does that make sense?
SPEAKER_12No, that makes perfect sense. And just to kind of just to kind of re-highlight that for our listeners, essentially what we're saying is uh that the goal of insurance in general, right? I think this is fair of almost all kinds of insurance, even if you're younger, you're on any sort of health insurance, the goal is, of course, if anybody wants to make money in the industry, then they're going to insure people who are healthy. So that if you have a future sort of problem, whether that's broken modes, whatever it is, whatever sort of condition that you end up having, that they're not going to insure you after that condition. That's why if you've if you've ever, you know, uh in in younger days, when you call and you're like, hey, I want to get on health insurance, they'll ask you, hey, are you a smoker? Are you pregnant? They'll ask you all these sorts of clarifying questions beforehand, just to make sure that they're not going to be just immediately forking out money and you're just coming in at the last minute so that you can get covered something you already know you have. Uh and so those fines come in when you're when you're actively choosing to seek it out only when you already had the sort of adverse situation that you need the insurance for. Is that a fair sum up?
SPEAKER_05That that is that that's very good. And then to add to that, why people are largely confused today is because the Medicare Advantage plans that the government oversees will actually do that. So you kind of like the ACA. If you sign up on time, you can sign up with things going on and they'll pay. But when you're looking at the private products, that's where that comes in. And so that's where the confusion is, where people expect things to be to be covered right away when it's only those certain government type plans uh that allow that. And so people sort of just put that on everything and then get frustrated or upset when it doesn't work that way. But you you represented that beautifully.
SPEAKER_12Thank you. I appreciate that. And you mentioned the word confusion. The reason I appreciate that uh is because you know, there are a lot of questions. And every week I think we kind of attempt uh at answering one or two questions related to the Medicare industry, related to what's going on in Medicare, questions people have, whether it's about the difference in plans, supplement advantage, uh the medical calls, Medicare calls, different parts of Medicare, whatever it is, each week we try to kind of approach a certain topic related to questions people might have. The overarching reason that we do that is because regardless of what you're confused about, whether it is the fines, the age, group insurance, uh whether it is different parts of Medicare, different plans, how those plans are changing each year, um whatever the question is, Senior Health Services is there for all of those questions. And that's why every week we try we attempt to answer one or two of them. But the real answer uh to any question you have, the most simple thing you can do after hearing any of these questions answered is just to go over to senior health services.com or to call them 281-894-7540. Uh, because regardless of what your question is, they'll have a tailored answer specifically for you. That doesn't mean that things are always going to be perfect or work out exactly as you hoped they would, uh, but that you need someone in your corner when you're confused, regardless of what you're confused about, who can be there to assist you.
SPEAKER_05Absolutely. Could not agree more. And uh you just have to be careful. We've all got friends, those well-meaning friends, they love us, we love them, and they don't want to see us get hurt. They they want to give advice. People love giving advice, doctors love giving advice. And the problem is that if they've not gone through all these certifications about Medicare and really understand the ins and outs and ups and downs of it, they might be telling you stuff that's that's right for them, but a terrible thing for you. And they don't mean to do it, but it's something that we see all the time. And so just make sure that you ask the question for you so you can get into the into the situation that best suits you at any given time.
SPEAKER_12Right. And you ask those questions to people that definitely know what they're talking about. Justin, speaking of people that know what they're talking about. I appreciate you coming on this morning as we do on Mondays for Medicare Monday, uh, for answering these sorts of questions that people are that people are are asking. I appreciate you coming on and giving us your time this morning.
SPEAKER_05Man, it's always awesome, and I appreciate everybody out there that listens. And uh I look forward to these times every week. I really do.
Why Local Medicare Advice Matters
SPEAKER_12Absolutely. Well, speaking of every week, Lord willing, we'll talk to you again next Monday. Amen, sir. With that being said, ladies and gentlemen, one more time. If you want to go check out Senior Health Services, you can go to Senior Health Services.com or give them a call at 281-894-7540. That's 281-894-7540. Check them out. I know there's a lot of questions around this stuff, and I've said it before, I'll say it again. Whenever you look at the Medicare industry, there's a lots of con there's lots of confusing stuff. I'm not gonna be dishonest and say that it is easy, that they that everything's simple. It is very confusing for a lot of people, and it's it's often designed that way. Uh, and it's not just Medicare, by the way. There are questions people have about everything. That's why there's pr there there's so much. Um, there's so many people who are dedicated to helping with taxes, tax assistance. There are so many people dedicated to accounting. Because a lot of these different rules and regulations can get confusing. A lot of the question about fines, a lot of the question about difference in plans, a lot of frustration about getting uh these sort of calls that you didn't sign up for or you don't remember signing up for happens all the time. And so you need somebody that you know that's not only local, uh, but is in the pursuit of actual actually assisting you and that that has the answer specifically tailored to your particular situation. Uh because everybody's situation is different. Um, if if you're 66 and you're on a group insurance plan with more than 20 employees, you're obviously in a different position than someone who's giving you advice that's 64 who works at a company uh that that has 10 people at it, or that's 65 and just retired. And the rules as they apply to them will apply differently. And so regardless, I mean that's that's the stuff we talked about today, but regardless of what your questions are, there are people who can answer them. And of course, there are a variety of places you can go, but here at Patriot 920, uh we highly encourage you to check out Senior Health Services. We've worked closely with them for a very long time now. Uh we appreciate them greatly. We know the work that they produce. We have numerous success stories from our listeners, uh, from our listeners' families, uh people who have gone to senior health services and who have received exceptional service, uh, and they can tell just by being there that there's people who actually care about them. Um and that's something that we we like to highlight on this show. Is, you know, we we've gotten and I'm kind of segueing this, we've gotten into a time where it seems like especially in this sort of I don't really calling it capitalist, we need a different term, maybe consumerist mindset, uh where everything is about profit margins. And that's all that seems to matter to a lot of companies and a lot of people, is does this make fiscal sense? And that's the only question that gets asked. And that's not that that's a necessarily a bad question, but that question, if we want it to be a good one, has to work in tandem with other questions. If the only question we ever ask is, Am I gonna get rich off of this? If that if that's your only question uh as a company, if that's your only pursuit, if that's your main goal, then in a lot of cases, you're willing to screw over consumers for that. In a lot of cases, you're willing to not play. I don't want to say necessarily illegal, but you're willing to play different games. Uh and and in many cases that's going to lead to your main pursuit no longer being to assist other people. That's going to lead to companies uh that are willing to I don't want to say commit fraud. But are are willing to do things differently in a way that doesn't benefit you. And so with anybody that we sponsor, anybody that sponsors us, anybody that we were want to work with, one of the main questions that we have is what is their goal? That's why you'll notice a lot of the companies that we work with are either explicitly Christian or by virtue of the things they pursue are dedicated to the consumer. Uh that their their overall goal, and of course, one of the byproducts is often fiscal success, but their overall goal is to benefit people, to help people. They see the position that people are in. Uh if that's, you know, you I mentioned every time I come back from the break, you know, from from Texellent AC service. You know, we we know the guy very closely that owns Texellent. We know the job that he's done, he's worked for us. We know the kind of work that he produces and the goals that he has in terms of the way that he wants to help people, uh, the involvement he has in the local community, the events that he shows up to, and we know the kind of service that you're gonna get out of that. And it's not the kind of service, same thing on Tuesday, tomorrow, we're gonna have Telgi Tuesday. Uh, we talk with Telgi Roofing, another company where we know the kind of service that you're going to get and the kind of care they put in to fomenting their brand as a staple of the community. Those things are important. And they speak leaps and bounds. They speak uh very heavily about which companies you should choose. And that's why we love senior health services. And again, if you have any questions at all related to Medicare, even if you're not reaching Medicare age, maybe you're in your 50s, but you you just have questions. The consultation is completely free for you to ask those questions. The number is 281-894-7540 or senior health services.com. Check them out. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about IAH. Uh, as you guys are probably aware, TSA, uh all across the country, by the way, it's not just a Houston problem, but we notice it because, of course, we live here. Uh, TSA, the lines have been getting incredibly long. I think we we neared four hours yesterday at TSA checkpoints here at IAH. Uh, but again, that's a nationwide problem. And now Trump is announcing that he's gonna send some ICE agents into TSA checkpoints. Uh things are certainly a mess right now. We'll talk all about the updated details of that plan when we get back from the break. If you would like to text in, if you have any questions for me here on the show, anything that you want me to cover, uh any disagreements you might have with something that I'm saying, feel free to text in at 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. All about TSA, ICE, Trump's plans, airport lines, all that when we get back.

TSA Chaos, ICE Help, Shutdown Blame
SPEAKER_12Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Texellent AC Service. You know, you've heard the old adage, show up two hours before your scheduled boarding time, not departure time, boarding time, 30 minutes before your scheduled departure time, give or take. Show up two hours before that. That rule, uh that little helpful tip, would not have worked out for you this weekend. Uh the TSA security lines at Bush Intercontinental grew to as long as three hours yesterday morning, and even longer in the afternoon as airport security operations remain in a weakened state during the six weeks of the sixth week of the partial government shutdown. And of course, as always, the Democrats are trying to blame Republicans, saying that, oh, well, it's because they don't want to fund TSA. We're trying to fund TSA. Yeah, you're you're trying to do what you always do, which is where you pass these big funding packages that takes out stuff that people want and you hold hostage the government. This happens from Democrats all the time. We're more than willing to fund TH TSA. In fact, we've called that you fund entirely the Department of Homeland Security, but you don't want to do that. You want to defund ICE operations. You don't want immigration and customs enforcement to be funded. And so as a result, you're holding TSA hostage and you know, playing this sort of word game where you tell everyone, you know, those TSA lines you're dealing with at airports, you know why those are happening? Those are happening because Republicans won't sign our bill. Yeah, we won't sign your stupid stuff because it's stupid. That's the reason. Because you're defunding things that matter to Americans. I I would argue the number one voting issue for a lot of people in 2024 in the presidential election had to do with border security, had to do with border enforcement, had to do with immigration enforcement. That was a major voting issue for a lot of voters last election cycle. And so when you play this game, oh well, we're trying to fund TSA, but the right's not. No, we're trying to fund TSA too. We're just trying to fund TSA alongside other things that all fall under the same department, and you're unwilling to play along. Anyways, as of yesterday afternoon, the TSA line at Terminal A South was three hours and twenty minutes. Terminal E's wait time was right around four hours. The wait at the Terminal C North pre-check was over three hours. Uh, the wait at Terminal A North Pre-Check was about an hour, and all other checkpoints were closed again because of that partial government shutdown. Now, hobby airport security waits, which have been hours long earlier in March, they got him down to uh under ten minutes yesterday afternoon. They're doing a better job. At the same time, President Donald Trump said he planned to deploy ICE officers to airports today to start helping TSA agents who have been understaffed and working without pay. Funding for the Department of Homeland Security, of course, elapsed in the middle of last month due to an impasse over immigration enforcement policy in Congress. DHS and Republican leaders have blamed Democrats for the shutdown, and vice versa, because Democrats are not approving funding until lawmakers strike a deal on reforms to immigration enforcement practices. Um again, as I as I already highlighted, they're holding the entire system hostage because they don't like immigration enforcement. If you want to blame Republicans for that, feel free to do so. Uh, but that's not the way that I look at funding. If if we have our typical funding, if if you're running a business and you two get the approval of board members, and you have some board members on one side and some board members on the other, and you're trying to strike a negotiation over whether or not to continue the same funding, and half of the board group comes in and says, I know we've had this funding before, I know this is what our shareholders want and what our customers want, but we don't want to fund this part of it. And so we're not willing to approve next year's budget and uh allow anything to be spent, whether that's on paying our employees, whether that's on electricity for our our you know facility, whatever it is, we're not gonna fund that until you agree to change our policies regarding this other spending practice. Even though it's not what the shareholders want, even though it's not what our customers have come to expect, we want to change this. And if you guys on the board don't get around to it, if you guys are not willing to strike a negotiation with us, then we're not gonna be willing to fund anything. And that's exactly what the Democrats are doing. If you want to say that that's the Republicans' fault, you could try to make that argument. I think it's nonsensical. Um, even if you weren't on the right, I think it's fair to admit that this is obviously a Democrat-run operation. I think it's fair to say this is and you could even argue that maybe that's good. I think that's the main argument you could make, is I'm glad they're holding it hostage. They need to do that, they need to stand strong on their principles. But even then you'd have to admit that this is the Democrats doing it. And that's the admission that needs to be made here because this is the TSA lines and ICE having to go assist. None of that is remotely related to Republican values. None of that is remotely remotely related to Republican policies. It is fundamentally tied to the Democrats' activism. That's all it is. And again, if you want to argue that that's good, that would at least be a fairer argument. Because then we get into the actual policy itself, then we would get into practical application, then we could have a conversation uh about what we we should fund, about what's good, uh, about what what the government is obligated to spend, right? At least we could get into that. But we can't even start having that conversation because the left wants to pretend like they're not the ones doing it. They want to pretend like Republicans are the reason that TSA isn't funded. And then we can't have a good faith conversation about what we should fund because you're not willing to even have any sort of honesty and transparency as to what you are doing in the first place. That's that's the main issue I have. And this is one of the main issues I have with Democrats in general. It's not just that they're wrong or that their policies are dumb or or perverted or evil, it's that they can't even admit that they're doing them in the first place for us to have a conversation about it, right? This is why, if you've if you've ever realized this is why on the left, and I can use this almost with any example, when you talk about, say, uh transgenderism, if you don't have a conversation with the left about transgenderism, they start talking about how, well, it's a small minority of the population and you shouldn't really care that much. It's so it's so few people in reality that I don't even know why you're targeting them. And it makes it difficult to have a conversation about boys and girls' sports because rather than acknowledge that that's happening, they try to boil it down to scale and say, well, it doesn't really matter. Right? It's the same thing with abortion, for instance. I've had multiple conversations with people on the left about abortion. And rather than being honest and saying no, everyone you believe and you do that everyone should have a right to abortion up to nine months and have a conversation about that, where we can have a a a healthy conversation, a debate, if you will, about what morality is, about what human life is. We can't even get to that point because immediately they turn to things like, and I'm sure you've heard it in videos, I've heard it in person multiple times, they turn to this claim of, well, really, Michael, it's it's that women who have been raped at 13 should not have to carry their rapist baby. And that makes it incredibly difficult to ever have a real conversation because then they've put you in a box. And of course, I I am willing to I'm willing to go with it there and I'll say, Yeah, that's still evil. Murder is still wrong, even if you think you have a good excuse for it. Murdering someone who committed no crime, giving capital punishment to someone who's done nothing wrong, is actually immoral, regardless of the basis of which you think you're doing it. Right? Unless it's in an act of self-defense because the woman's life is legitimately in jeopardy, there is absolutely no excuse for abortion. But they put you in this box because they're willing, they're unwilling to have a real conversation about the issue. They're not willing to talk about abortion, they're not willing to defend uh the the major, the major, most the the largest reason for abortion in the nation, which is mere inconvenience. It's not because of financial insecurity, it's not because of rape or sexual assault. None of those things are even remotely close to being the leading reason for abortion in 2026. The leading reason, far and away, it's not even close, it's in the 90 percentile. It it's it's over like 93% of people who get abortions get them for elective reasons. They just don't want a baby. Whether that's because they want to save their money or because they envision their life as having a child later, or the person that they decided to have sexual relations with is not someone they want to be the father of their child, regardless of what the exact reason is, it's all basically related to inconvenience. And the left is unwilling to have a good faith conversation about how evil uh convenient abortion is. Abortion that you get because you just don't want to deal with it, because you just don't want any level of responsibility whatsoever. It's the same thing with this. We could at least, if they'd acknowledge they're holding it hostage because they believe strongly in what they're doing, and it is their fault that TSA isn't being funded, but they think that that's a worthy trade-off to try to force the federal government to stop and and they could even use their words. We are doing we are willing to do whatever it takes to stop the xenophobia and the racism. Even if that means that lines are gonna get a little longer, that's a sacrifice that we're gonna have to make. But they won't even get to that point in the conversation because of course they they try to then blame Republicans for what it's very obvious to everyone they're doing. And on the bright side for Republicans, what that shows everybody is that the left is just filled with dishonesty. The left is filled with people who are liars, people who are deceivers, people who are of their father, the devil, uh, who frequently are willing to lie in the pursuit of their agenda. The downside, of course, is that that means we can't actually address the real issues. Because if we can address the real issues, at least we can get into a conversation about immigration, the rule of the federal government, why deportations are good. But we can't even get there because they're willing to just lie hand over fist about who's actually causing the partial government shutdown. When everyone is well aware, including the news outlets, that it's the left. And at least the the news outlets will still try to run cover for them and say, but it's a good thing uh because they're they're doing good things for immigration. But the left of their own accord is unwilling to address that. And instead just wants to pin it all on Republicans and say, Well, you guys are actually the ones causing the shutdown. When everyone knows that's just a made-up lie. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and we're gonna talk about a little bit of safety issue because an HISD, uh, an HISD teenager, teach teenager in HISD, in a Houston Infant School District, was shot while exiting a bus in Northwest Houston. Uh now a juvenile is in custody, according to police, uh police authorities kind of referring to this case. But we'll talk about the details of how that happened, kind of what led up to it, what needs to happen from here, all those sorts of things when we get back from the break. As always, if you would like to text in, let us know your thoughts. The number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. I'll be right back after the break.

SPEAKER_12So an HIST high school student was shot near a Northwest Houston school bus stop last Friday afternoon. So this had been uh after our last show, so basically over the weekend for us. The shooting happened according to the East Police Department around 4 45 p.m. p.m. and the team was Taken to an area hospital and is expected to survive. A juvenile was arrested at a nearby residence. The student attends Scarborough High School and was shot in the leg by a classmate while exiting the bus. Nearby Benbrook Elementary, which was the holding after-school activities, was placed on lockdown while police search for the shooter, according to ABC 13. Now, a couple of things, a few things. Um, because there's there's multiple different directions that we kind of need to go in in a story like this. The first, and I think most obvious, is kind of trying to preempt you can call it reactionaryism, r reactionism, whatever you want to call it, preemptively pushing back against what the left's narrative will automatically be anytime you have a case like this, which is, well, that other juvenile should not have had access to a firearm. That's the real thing that's at play here. This only happened because someone underage had access to a firearm. So we need stricter gun regulations if we want to prevent crimes like this. Can I just pause for a moment and say that that is absolutely ridiculous? I I mean genuinely ridiculous. This is why people that are not historically literate should have no opinions at all. They should let everybody else do the thinking for them, because if you're unwilling to understand history and understand basic facts of human nature, uh you should have no capability to have a say in the way that things are run. Because all you have to do to break this argument down is say, hey, 60 years ago, not that long by the way, people, you know, people that are that were adults then are still alive, right? That was not that long ago. Sixty years ago, how many issues do we have of people getting shot as they got off buses? How many issues do we have of mass shootings in schools back in the 60s? Someone knows the answer to that. I I don't have the statistics, but I would I would wager a guess and say significantly less. That it was not considered a widespread problem back then. You want to know why? Because why it wasn't considered a widespread problem? Because it wasn't happening. You want to know why it wasn't happening? Well, I can guarantee you it had nothing to do with the amount of guns or the access to them. If you guys are unaware, back then you actually had greater access to firearms than you have now. There were actually less regulations to a large degree on who could purchase firearms, what purchases looked like, um, the qualifications of where your guns were kept in your home. There weren't a lot of regulations as to lock boxes and security. There was inarguably far more access to those underage to have a firearm back then than there are now. And yet, somehow, there were less casualty events like this. There were less situations of kids getting shot, getting off school buses, or getting shot in school. It was less of a problem. You want to know why? Because as it turns out, having a basic understanding of even recent history would dictate that maybe the guns are not what's changed. That maybe the guns are not the primary issue at play, that maybe it's something else that's changed in 60 years that's not the particular tool of choice. Maybe it's something related to morality and the culture. Maybe it's something related to the rejection of Christ in the mainstream. Maybe it's something related to the inability of the criminal justice system to pursue real charges and real penalties, which by the way kind of leads into the next thing I wanted to mention here, um, which is related to the criminal justice side of this conversation. Because of course, uh, we're not gonna get to know the name because it's a juvenile, that's just how that's just how policy works. Someone underage is not gonna, they're not gonna have all the details of their trial revealed and all that. But this is a high schooler, right? So I I would imagine, you know, you could say freshman, early freshman, what, 14 years old maybe. I doubt that's the case. Probably somewhere between 15 and 18 years of age. I'm gonna say something that is pretty controversial in the mainstream, maybe not controversial for listeners who are used to this show, because we do a lot of. I was talking with a friend last night about my controversial opinions on things. And uh I'll make a claim like, yeah, I'm an environmentalist, and everyone will assume so you're like on the left. No, it's worse than that, actually. I'm actually far right. That's why I'm I'm a Teddy Rooseveltan Republican, right? I actually do believe that part of our dominion mandate as Christians and as conservatives uh is to preserve our natural environment. I actually do believe in that. We shouldn't destroy what God's given us, we should be good stewards of it. So actually it's it's worse because I'm a far right environmentalist. Or I say, like, I'm a prison abolitionist. Not in the sense that I think that prisons serve no good goal, but in the sense that for 99% of people, prison is just the wrong answer if our goal is justice. Even if your goal is rehabilitation, by the way, it would obviously be the wrong answer because we have the statistics to back that up. But but it's also the wrong thing if we want retribution, if we want criminal penalties, it doesn't do anything. It's not preventative in nature, it's not a punishment, it's time out. Timeout, by the way, doesn't work. It is not successful. It has been proven unsuccessful over and over and over again. In children and adults, time out is not a good, a good look. Not good for optics, and certainly not good for success. And so when I say I'm a prison abolitionist, people go, Oh, you're on the left? You want to abolish you want you want criminals to not be put uh behind bars? You you want criminals to just be let out scot-free? No, it's worse than that. I'm actually a far right radical. I actually think that that's not severe enough. That way more people should be given capital punishment and that we should have uh forced labor where people are paying their own way. If you want to have some sort of prison-like setup where people are working manual labor and they're housed in a certain facility that's secure, even then I think that their manual labor should go back to restitution and paying their own cost of living, right? No one should be, no taxpayer should be on the hook for housing criminals. That's that's just such an insane theory that it never would have flown at any other point, other than now. And and I I understand like jail where you're held till trial for at most a week or two. I get that. Uh, but this whole punishment, prison as a punishment thing is is been radically unsuccessful. And so I'll say I'm a I'm a prison abolitionist. People go, You're on the left. No, I'm actually far right. It's the same thing with what I'm about to say. This is a rather controversial opinion that I have. I actually think that 15, 16, 17, 18-year-olds are competent people who make decisions, and if they're willing to make those decisions, they need to face the repercussions for them. If you are 16 years old and you shoot and you kill someone, I think despite the fact that you're 16, you're entitled to the death penalty. I don't think there's some sort of magical number. At 16, all of a sudden, oh, well, you're not actually old enough to face real repercussions. I know that you're nothing's really going to change in the next year, right? You're you're you're 17. Say you're 17 and you're six months old. Do you think in six months that person is a completely different individual who should face different consequences? That just doesn't make any sense. If you are 16 years old and you shoot your classmate with the intent to murder, right, that is obvious in what you did. I don't see any reason why we can't give you the same impercussions that we would give a full-grown adult. If this guy was 40 and he shot someone getting off a school bus, this would be a very different conversation for most people. It wouldn't be a different conversation for me because I think it's the same thing. It is the exact same question. How do we punish someone who's an attempted murderer? And and that's where the criminal justice system has got to get its eggs in a row, get its ducks in a row, and uh figure this out because this is gonna keep happening. Which leads to the final thing that I want to highlight on this particular case, which is we have a massive safety problem. And we already know about what it's not, it's not the guns. It is cultural and related to criminal justice, but what do we do about it then, Michael? What's what's the solution here? Because obviously, if you're saying it's not the guns, then the solution is not stricter gun regulation, it's not stricter gun legislation, then what is it? If you're saying, yeah, there is a safety epidemic, yeah, there is an issue with children not being safe at school or in on their bus ride or when they get off walking home, if children are unsafe, there's an issue. How do we address that? Because the left has an answer. They'll say, well, regulate guns more. That would that would fix it. I don't believe that. I don't think that would fix it. I think it also would be a serious violation of human rights um in pursuit of a not not good goal anyway. But then we need to have a solution. We gotta have an answer, right? If we're gonna say that it's not guns, then what is it and what can we actively do to fix it? Well, I can give you two immediate solutions, two very easy solutions. Actually, I'll give you uh you know what, I'll give you three. Number one, the first solution is the criminal justice system. And I'm not using the phrase make an example out of this person, but we need to start doing that. If you're gonna commit these sorts of crimes, it needs to be very obvious to everyone that witnesses it what happens to you. And it is it needs to be very severe. And it needs to be it needs to be very retributive in nature to say this is what will happen to you if you decide to act this way. The second is that we need to make guns less of a taboo topic, not more. Then it needs to become more normalized to be around firearms. Kids used to be very normal around firearms, they didn't used to be some crazy wild out there thing that's locked up and kept out of view and out of sight, out of mind. It used to be something that kids were trained. They were taken to the gun range with their parents. They knew about proper gun safety, they knew what it meant to shoot, they knew what it meant to hunt and what guns were used for and what they should not be used for. It's a cultural solution. And number three is you gotta get better. Arm the bus driver. Arm the teachers. Right? Things need to be, again, they need to be normalized. The people have a right to self-defense and defending other people. That needs to be considered normal and needs to be a protected right that people have uh in our in our society. That teachers are able to defend their students from a would-be, you know, a would-be criminal. With that being said, to wrap up the show, we can get back from the break. We're gonna jump over and wrap up by talking a little about a judge who is now frozen the utility district tied to the Epic Center, right? The Epic City development. They renamed it the Meadows. You guys probably know what I'm talking about. Epic City is the East Plano Islamic Center that has tried to start this Islamic enclave, uh, trying to use our own rights against us by saying, well, we're not actually religiously discriminating. We're just, you know, if you join in, then you have to pay HOA funds essentially uh to an Islamic school, a mosque, et cetera, et cetera, with the intent of making it an Islamic-only enclave. We'll talk all about that, Judge and the Free Zen That Utility District when we get back. Text in. This is your last chance at 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. SPEAKER_12So Attorney General Ked Baxton has obtained a court order halting actions by an Epic City-linked municipal utility district. Now the case centers on allegations that the double R municipal municipal utility district number 2A has been used to advance a controversial development project organized by the East Plano Islamic Center by skirting state oversight and standard mud creation procedures. The project, originally known as Epic City, has, of course, as we all know, been rebranded the Meadow to make it seem more American, I suppose. Judge Christine Nowak's order blocks the district and its board from taking further steps to support the development while the litigation continues. The state's lawsuit focuses on a special meeting where the Double R Mud Board allegedly resigned en masse. You had this board that ran most of this area. And they had this I I don't have enough time to really paint the picture for you, but you had Epic City trying to build on this plot of land. And it wasn't incorporated as a utility district yet. And so they went to the nearest municipal utility district. Somehow, by a work of magic, everyone in that district resigned. They just left their positions. Then they installed new directors at a remote roadside location identified only by GPS coordinates. And then as soon as everyone that was on the board previously resigned and installed new directors, they then immediately voted to annex more than 400 acres tied to the Epic project. So to paint this picture, they go to the nearest utility district, rather than having to incorporate a new one and follow state oversight rules, they go to the nearest one. Everyone resigns. They replace them with these Muslim leaders who then say, We're going to annex 400 more acres, which includes the land we want to build on, and boom, now we're in our own, we we now own the municipal utility district that now oversees our own land. I I mean it's it's absolutely insane. And so state lawyers say that that maneuver effectively transformed the mud into a vehicle for the backers of Epic City, allowing them to expand taxing authority and infrastructure support without going through the state process of having to form a new district. And so, according to the suit, the records submitted to the individuals did not meet statutory qualifications, and the state is asking the court to remove the disputed board members, unwind that annexation, say that doesn't count, uh, and restore what Paxton describes as lawful governance of the utility district. The secured TRO, this temporary injunction, temporary restraining order, temporarily freezes the municipal utility district from any concrete action until its scheduled temporary injunction hearing scheduled for later this month. Uh so this is just step one. Obviously, this is not a finalization saying you can't do any of this, but it at least stops them from doing anything else as the case moves forward. And I would imagine, giving the suspicious circumstances surrounding the development and the way that they secured this district, it's not gonna go so well from them in Texas court. Nevertheless, that will do it for the show today. Thanks everyone for tuning in. You've been listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Lord willing, I'll be back bright and early tomorrow at 6 a.m. for tomorrow's edition of the Lone Star Conservative. In the meantime, this may be possibly one of the coolest days of the week.
