Texas Scrubs Cesar Chavez Day As Houston Faces TSA Chaos And Lawmakers Fight Over Illegal Education

A Texas state holiday gets yanked from schools, and the question isn’t just “why now?” It’s how Cesar Chavez became classroom canon in the first place and what it means when public institutions can build a hero for decades then quietly erase him in a week. We dig into the Texas Education Agency guidance tied to Chavez Day, the Abbott directive behind it, and the deeper issue of whether our culture is choosing role models based on virtue or on usefulness to an agenda.

From there, we jump straight into Houston’s real-time mess at George Bush Intercontinental Airport: four-plus hour TSA lines, staffing shortages during the partial government shutdown, and photos of ICE at the airport “monitoring the line.” We also react to the political blame game, then cover Trump’s Truth Social shots at James Talarico and why today’s Democratic Party is not the same as it was even 20 years ago.

We close with three more Texas stories that matter: Houston Housing Authority’s $175,000 penalty over toxic ash and lead contamination near affordable housing, the case for conservative environmental stewardship, and a Texas House fight over a bill that would challenge Plyler v Doe and end taxpayer funded public education for children of illegal aliens. Finally, we discuss a Tyler ISD substitute teacher accused of abuse who is repeatedly ruled incompetent to stand trial, and what that says about vetting and accountability in schools.

Why Texas Is Dropping Chavez

SPEAKER_08

The voice of reason. It's the most conservative Michael Wilson.

SPEAKER_01

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Texellent AC Service. Now, listen up, ladies and gentlemen, because here's the thing: there's come some announcements out of, let's say, the Texas Education Agency, specifically referring to, of course, the fact that Greg Abbott last week directed all mentions of Cedar Chavez Day to be taken out of public schools, schools that were named after this guy to be renamed. And the real theme of today that I want to get into is me kind of at least acting surprised that the left has propped up these sorts of heroes for so long. And it doesn't really make sense to me because we actually live in a country where we have great heroes. I mean, you can look at American history. You don't even have to go back pre-American history into the time of the Crusaders and the early church. Even if you just stick explicitly to even post-founding American history, the number of heroes that we have in our lineage is wild. And you compare and contrast that to the kind of people that we've made heroes, while some of these men who actually were great, we've torn their statues down, and we're left to wonder what's the goal of looking at men at all? Because if if our goal in that, if our goal ultimately in having some sort of hero, having some sort of historical figure that we look up to is simply that they meet our agenda as opposed to being men of great virtue, then then sure. Uh you can you can look to Chavez and say, what a great guy. But if our goal is to actually look at men who did great things, to actually have people that we look at and we say, you know, I actually think that the goal of having heroes at all is to produce a level of desire for us to be like them. And the more you learn about this Chavez fella, the more I think it's very clear that you want to be, let's say, nothing like him. Um of course, all this new stuff has been coming out uh regarding sexual abuse allegations. I think this surfaced against this guy uh over the past couple of weeks. Um, interwritten guidance from the TEA, the Texas Education Agency. The agency has ordered school districts essentially to cancel or otherwise redirect events uh and activities that are planned for the his day on March 31st. That's less than a week away now. An extension, of course, Governor Greg Abbott's state directive from last week to not observe the state holiday at all. And of course, they're also talking about replacing the state holiday because they want to keep it a state holiday, but maybe they can put someone else in there, coach, uh, who's maybe a better man. Now, teachers and labor groups, of course, uh have been reckoning with this civil right leader's allegations after a New York Times investigation revealed allegations that he had sexually assaulted and abused women and girls. And the reason they make the distinction between women and girls uh is is the age. You know, a woman is usually someone over the age of 18, over the age of consent, and a girl is usually someone under that age. So we know about someone that has allegations of sexual assault and abuse on women and girls. Usually what you'll find is uh that includes some level of, let's say, at least a febophilia, but probably pedophilia as well. Now, the current state state social studies curriculum requires students to learn about Chavez, and by the way, multiple different grades, including fifth grade and basic U.S. history. But the TEA said that any teachings of Chavez would also conflict with a portion of the Texas Education Code that a teacher cannot be compelled to discuss a widely debated and currently controversial issue of public policy or social affairs, which, given the new allegations, of course, Chavez uh falls under that general banner. Now, one thing that I do want to highlight on this, uh, because I want to ask our listeners something. I want to ask you guys something. This is important. How does a man go from being taught in classrooms to being scrubbed out of lesson plans overnight? Because that's what's happening. Uh they they they have come in and they said, remove him out of everything. We we don't need to discuss him in the curriculum. We don't need to celebrate a holiday dedicated to this guy. And here's the question that it seems like the mainstream never wants us to ask. That the media, and I but when I say mainstream media, I'm not just referring to CNN, right? I'm referring even to some of the right wing outlets. And right wing is being used, shall we say, a little bit loosely there? Because I don't even know if you can call Fox News right wing half the time. But why was he elevated in the first place? When when there are such great men in American history, in Texas history, why did we choose someone like Chavez in the first place when there were so many greater men on the list of possibilities to celebrate? That's that's what shocks me a bit. Because it's not like we had a very small pool of people to choose from and we had to select someone from this small group. I know that diversity is some sort of quota now. And so we're supposed to have some sort of diversity in our celebrations, and we have to make sure that we're honoring everybody, and that's some sort of bogus claim in itself. But nevertheless, we've chosen a guy who now, of course, sexual allegations have come up, but we didn't need those sexual allegations to come up in order for us to know the truth that there were men we should have celebrated and there are men we certainly should not have, given the long list of possibilities. For decades, this guy has been presented, of course, as a moral icon to us as Texans, a civil rights leader, a champion of workers, a guy who really demanded justice. And whether you agreed with his labor activism or not, that image had been carefully curated by people, that you were supposed to look at this guy as some sort of hero. Uh, but now,

How Heroes Get Chosen

SPEAKER_01

now that these allegations are surfacing, now we're supposed to think uh that suddenly the institutions that built him up are are backing away from that. And they're trying to do it kind of quietly, giving these announcements to schools. No one really knows the full story. Um and that's that's that should bother you in and of itself. But furthermore, let's talk about the men we don't teach the same way anymore. Men like Sam Houston, Robert E. Lee, George Washington. Like I said, this is a tiny little portion of the list. You don't have to agree with every decision these men ever made. Obviously, these men were imperfect. It's kind of par for the course when you use the word men. There's only one man who was ever perfect, and it was, of course, Jesus Christ. And that's what I have said when people talk about who they elect in general, and they say, well, this guy's not perfect. No one ever will be. There's only been one, and there will only ever be one who is perfect here in this life, and that is Jesus Christ. But that's not the point. The point is not to look with a magnifying glass at every single decision that that any man who could be considered great ever made. The point is this these were men who built nations, led armies, preached the gospel, and they sacrificed everything, and they shaped the way that we live our lives today. That's that's the men that you can look at. Sam Houston refused to betray his men. He stood on principle and he helped shape the state of Texas greatly, as us here in tech, as we here in Texas are well aware. Sam Houston did great things. Robert E. Lee uh offered command of the army. He turned down that command in order to stand with his state, loyalty to his home, and after the war pushed for reconciliation instead of further violence. Not only that, but Robert E. Lee also led in the fight for the preaching of the gospel. He was a great man of virtue in Christianity. I know that the left wants you to believe that Robert E. Lee was a terrible slave owner who abused his slaves, could not be further from the truth. If there were if there were such a thing as a good slave owner, Robert E. Lee certainly would make the list. Uh you can read his diary entries, uh, his his position on freeing his slaves, and you can see immediately that Robert E. Lee was a great man by almost any standard. And George Washington, I mean, could have been king of the U.S. and and maybe that would have been good, but he walked away from that. And he walked away from that because he was concerned about the power that would grant to one individual. And he thought that power was too great for any man, including himself. Now let me ask you. When you look at at men today, and you look at the men that they want to tell you are great, would any of them be willing to do any of the things that these men did? Would any of the men of today, right, and you can name any that you'd like. You you can you can look at almost anyone that you consider to be a great man of virtue today, would almost any of them turn down a monarchial position? Would almost any of them turn down a kingship? Would almost any of them, out of undying loyalty to their home, fight a war? Would any of them be willing to sacrifice their life? Would any of them be willing to sacrifice their freedoms? Would any of them be willing to sacrifice even their time for you? I mean, we talk every day about how frequently it seems like the men that we want to look up to make horrid decisions that that ultimately result in our downfall, that ultimately result in a variety of issues that pop up at the local, state, and federal levels. And yet in in modern education, they often reduce the actual good men to mere footnotes. Yeah. Or or worse, they will give you a section on some of these men, and they'll choose to look at the worst aspects possible while again glorifying men like Chavez, while glorifying people who undeniably were not good men, who undeniably did not do good things. And that should tell you a couple things. Uh first and foremost, we've spent years lowering the

Virtue Versus Agenda In History

SPEAKER_01

status of real American leaders, and I think this goes hand in hand with, of course, the move to demean masculinity. They they want you to believe, and I'm not I'm not going over on the red pill side and saying, look at Andrew Tate, but I'm saying for years, we've been told that masculinity, by its very nature, is toxic, that it's bad, that masculinity is not virtuous, but it's actually evil, that it somehow is misogynistic in nature. None of those things are actually true, but they've done a great job at making people believe that it's true. That if you believe in masculinity, that you believe that men should, you know, be men, that you're a bigot, that you're actually just as evil as the men that came before you. Uh, they've done everything they can to rewrite history. It's called revisionism, historical revisionism, in an agenda, of course, to try to change what we believe about what greatness even is. The end goal is not that Chavez is the hero and that George Washington is the bad guy. That certainly has come across in a lot of our historical curriculum, unfortunately. Has come across that the great men of American history were racist, slave-owning bigots who hated women, who hated everybody that wasn't them. But that couldn't be further from the truth. But that's not the end goal. That's just the means. The end goal of all of this, ultimately, has been to carefully curate a situation in which the men of America today believe something very different about virtue, believe something very different about greatness, about sacrifice, about leadership. And the goal in doing all of that is ultimately power and control over the men of America. And as we've highlighted many times, and as many people much smarter than I have highlighted many times, one of the primary issues with that is that when you put men in that position, when you put men in that box, what you ultimately achieve, and it's good for those who want power, is this level of complacency, this this level of a refusal to stand up against evil. You you create weak and cowardly men. And just so everyone's aware, strong men were the backbone of moral civilization in the West far before the founding of the United States of America, far before our nation existed. Strong, capable, and convicted men, not convicted by criminal courts, but convicted by the Holy Spirit were the ones who led civilization, who led our, you're talking about the golden age of America, or American greatness, or American exceptionalism. Those things aren't just magical items that came out of nowhere. They came out of a willingness from sacrificial men to fight for truth. Right. And that's what I've I've said countless times should be the goal of any man. If you're listening to anyone in political commentary, if you're listening to anyone, uh whether it's on the radio, whether it's on YouTube, wherever it is, whether it's on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, where wherever you're looking, if your goal, as it should be, is to bring America back, right? Whether that's make America great again, have an America first agenda, whatever it is, whatever your goal explicitly stated is, the number one way that you have to do that is to have people who you look at and say, This is what we want to emulate. This is what we want to achieve. This is where we want to be as a culture, as a nation, as a civilization. And you can't do that while concurrently not recognizing that the men they prop up, like Chavez, and the men they tear down statues of like Robert E. Lee, are so backwards that the the agenda is perfectly obvious to anyone with two brain cells thrubbed together, probably less than that, to be completely honest, that we have to acknowledge exactly what they're doing if we want to fight back and we want to push back against it. We have to be well aware of exactly the intent behind what's happened. And the intent could not be more obvious. The intent was to demean masculinity, it was to destroy the strength and the will of men, with an ultimate agenda, of course, of running the country the way they see fit, of destroying the West, right? This this is concurrent with feminism. You can look at this on display with Islamic influence, and we know we have a massive problem with Islamic influence here in the state of Texas. Uh this is everything from rhino-style elections. I mean, you look at a lot of the people that are in these elected positions who claim to be Republican, who claim to be conservative in their values and ideologies, and then you look at how they vote and the things they actually believe and the things they actually fight for, these men are not strong-willed. They don't have a strong backbone and a strong desire for success and a strong desire uh to bring back a time of American greatness. No, no, no. These men are weak. And they want you to be content with that. And that's why the men they want you to look up to are the same. They want you to look up to people uh who were ultimately evil, who were weak willed, who did evil things, so that you don't for a second stop to think that maybe the men of greatness in our past, the men of actual virtue, are the ones who we should emulate, are the ones that we should look to and say, hey, maybe we want to look less like Chavez and more like George Washington. Maybe we want to go back further in history. I mean, I mentioned you can look at American history, but you can look further back than that. Maybe you look at a lot of the kings in in Europe fighting against Islamic hordes and Islamic invasions in the West, and you can find, I mean, the number of men on that list is boundless. Richard the Lionheart, King Godfrey, I mean, the the list goes on and on and on of great men in Western history who they don't want to teach you the truth about. They don't want you to know that these this is what greatness actually looks like. They don't want you to know that that men of virtue actually did exist and they did good things, great things even, and that we have the opportunity to do the same. No, no, no. You can't possibly believe that. And so we must prop up men who achieved less, who had fewer principles, because then maybe the men of today will emulate that instead. Maybe the men in America today will give up their masculine will that God gave them, by the way. Maybe the men of today will sacrifice what God's called them to on the altar of weakness. That's the goal of things like Sejar Shava's Day. That's the goal of propping up weak men and tearing down strong ones. That's the goal. And if we're gonna push back on that notion, if we're gonna say, as we rightfully should, that actually America was founded with a specific purpose and a specific intent to be a nation of Christians who came together and fought for the truth, if we want to do that at all, then and I've said this before, but culture matters. The things we celebrate matter. And and that this is why when when Trump renamed the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, and everyone said, well, this is this doesn't matter. This isn't good policy, this is something random that doesn't have any impact on us. I said, That's not true. Because the way we view things actually does matter. The way we view the strength of our country matters, the way we view our ownership of things matters. Those things are on the table for cultural shifts. And so if we want a similar cultural shift, maybe instead of celebrating Chavez, an allegated pedophile who fought for quote unquote civil rights, which is a whole separate discussion on civil rights and labor and all of that sort of stuff that's bad anyway. Instead of instead of celebrating that and that sort of individual, maybe instead we push to celebrate men of virtue. We push to celebrate men who were actually great. So that our end goal, directly opposed and contrasted with theirs, is that once again we create strong men here in America to save this country ultimately, to push back on all of the evil, whether it's all the stuff coming out from the LGBTQ, whether it is all the stuff coming out from our terrible immigration policies, whether it's everything coming out about what we actually believe about truth, everything, everything from immigration to LGBTQ isms to abortion, to government policy and control, all of those things are predicated on strong men willing to stand up. And if we want strong men to stand up, then we need to put strong men for us to look to. And that's not Chavez. That's men like George Washington, Sam Houston, and Robert E. Lee.

TSA Gridlock And ICE At Airports

SPEAKER_01

With that being said, when we get back from the break, we are gonna jump over. We're gonna talk about IAH because Bush Airport is issuing an alert as there are only two TSA checkpoints that are both facing a four-plus hour wait, uh, with missed flights being possible. Of course, you've also got uh Congressman Christian Menefee, who's addressing the TSA issues at Houston Airports after there's been this reported ICE involvement. You've got numerous photos coming out of ice at Houston area airports. We'll talk all about the details of all this ongoing stuff when we get back. Text in at 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. The Medicare Minute with Justin White is brought to you by Senior Health Services.

SPEAKER_02

If you are of Medicare age or getting close or you have a loved one that is, be careful with those unsolicited phone calls that I know you know about. We get told about them all the time. What you need to know is that many of those phone calls are not even legal. They're coming from offshore call centers. Sometimes they're calling regardless of whether you're on the do not call list. Isn't that nice to them, by the way? It's really sweet of them to just do that because they are thinking that they can't get caught. Bottom line is when you get on there and you talk to them, they're already kind of operating sidelong of what should be done. And sometimes people end up in plans that they did not intend to enroll in. And so what do you do? Call somebody local. If you got a local agent, my gosh, call them and get in front of them. And if you don't have a good agent, think of an organization like Senior Health Services where you can sit down, talk about what you're looking for, and get the help that you need. You don't need to be talking to phone operators from other countries that you don't know who they are, where they are, or what in the world they're doing.

Travelers at Houston's George Bush Intercontinental Airport saw lines of more than four hours at the TSA security checkpoints in terminals A and E. According to airport officials, warned uh yesterday afternoon as the partial government shutdown persists, it continues. The TSA lines continue to grow at Terminal A and E, the only two terminals open yesterday afternoon. After federal immigration agents arrived at both Bush Airport and William P. Hobby Airport in the morning, the Houston Airport system urged travelers to contact their airlines because they could miss their Monday evening flights. President Donald Trump, of course, announced over the weekend that he was planning to deploy ICE to U.S. airports yesterday. CSA has been without funding for more than a month while Congress is deadlocked over migration enforcement policy. Hundreds of TSA officers have quit, unable to afford basic expenses like food, rent, gas, child care. That's according to the Acting Assistant Secretary at the Department of Homeland Security. A group of ICE officers gathered at baggage claim in Bush to Terminal A, where Eastern Airport System staffer appeared to direct them toward their assignments shortly after 8 45 A.M. yesterday. The airport staffer told the agents, quote, monitor the line, maybe spread out, maybe half upstairs. ICE agents maintained a quiet presence along the edges of the standard screening security line. Some guided passengers between different segments of the twisting line, others stood to the side and watched. ICE officers at Hobby Airport casually walked back and forth. Again, somebody said, I feel like they have a place here, and I'm very curious as to why they're showing their face here at the airport, and yet on the street they're covering their face. Well, probably because in the airport, there's probably not going to be mass violence against them. That's probably one of the main reasons, is uh the reason they're covering their face, and I'm not justifying that, by the way. We've had conversations on the show about my opinions regarding face coverings and all this sort of stuff. But if you want an answer to why they're showing their face at the airport and not when they're out dealing with detaining illegal immigrants, it's probably because the left is not going to dox them for doing evil things when they're just airport workers. Right? They have at least plausible deniability to say, hey, I'm just working at the airport, right? There, there's no reason to come after me. I'm not doing anything wrong. I'm not hurting anybody, right? Whatever, whatever it is that the claims the left is making that they're having to push back against, as opposed to when they're out in the field and they're having to arrest illegal immigrants, and of course, the left, as they do, is doxing their identity, where they live, who they are, who their family is. I think there's less concern about that happening when they're just working at an airport. And so they don't need to cover their face, if that's the argument, which it is. Uh TSA staffing issues, of course, affected many major airports nationwide and in the ongoing partial government shutdown. Of course, you also have Christian Menifee, uh, who's calling on Republican leaders. Of course, calling on Republican leaders. Could and this is this is what bugs me. You're a Democrat. You are well aware that the basis for the partial government shutdown is the Democrats' unwillingness, even if you want to justify it, their unwillingness to approve ongoing funding for immigration enforcement. That that is the backbone of this shutdown. It is nothing else. It has nothing to do with TSA at all. That's just unfortunately uh uh uh unparticipant unwilling participant as a bystander in this situation who's being harmed by nature of being under the Department of Homeland Security. You're targeting immigration enforcement. And so when Christian Benefit comes out and he calls on Republican leaders, it doesn't make any sense because you're a Democrat. You have sway then with the Democrats. If you want to approach the Democrats

Shutdown Blame Game In Houston

SPEAKER_01

and say, hey, we need we need to fix this the real problem. I don't know how we need to negotiate this, but we have to do something here because this is getting out of hand. And instead you're gonna go to the Republicans who have the same opinions they've had for a long time, who are going at the will of the American people to fund immigration enforcement, the main reason that Donald Trump won in 2024. And your approach is you Republicans need to get on board with what we're doing. No, you're not in charge. How about you get your team in check? They're the ones causing this in the first place. Uh, he spoke yesterday evening at George Bush, where travelers have faced, again, long security lines and delays. He said the shutdown is the fault of nobody else except the members of the Republican Party in Congress and in the White House. The Republican Party controls the White House, they control the House of Representatives, and they control the Senate, yet hundreds of thousands of Department of Homeland Security employees continue to work without pay. Uh, he highlighted the impact on airport operations, noting that absentee rates among TSA workers have reached over 42% at Bush Intercontinental and 47% at Hobby Airport. The press conference came after a directive, of course, to deploy ICE. And so Christian Menefee is essentially coming out and he's saying that this is absolute and total chaos. He said multiple people have had to wait two hours, three hours, four hours just to catch their flight. TSA workers deserve every single dollar for the time they work, no strings attached. The people across our community should not have to deal with this chaos anymore. I agree with you. We're actually, you know what, Chris and Menevie, you and I agree. They shouldn't have to face the chaos anymore. It is unbelievable that our workers are not being paid. That is frustrating. Um, what's the reason for that? Because you're saying it's the Republicans, but it the way I see it is one group is calling for a change in funding and denying workers their pay, and the other group is saying, let's maintain the status quo. Let's continue to fund immigration enforcement, let's just fully fund the Department of the Department of Homeland Security. That's our goal. You guys are the ones breaking stride. So you can blame Republicans if you want, it just makes you look either evil or like a moron. You're either incompetent or or you're you're evil. Those are the two options. You're either intentionally a liar or you're just dumb. Those are the there's not a third door here for you, unfortunately. That those are the two doors. And so it's either just callous lying or you're a moron. Maybe possibly a little bit of both. Because the reality is when you say it is no one but the Republicans' fault, they control the White House, they control Congress, right? All these things. Yeah, I understand that. You guys, despite the fact that the that the that the people of the United States have elected them to be in charge, you're standing in the way of them doing the things that the people want them to do. That's the whole problem. You're right, they do control the stuff. And the fact that you, as a minority of Congress, are standing in the way should be evidence to prove that you guys are the problem. Because if it was them being the problem and they have control, that would be a whole different conversation. But that's obviously not what we're seeing. They said the same things. We want TSA to be paid. This is unacceptable. But no one will bend. No one's willing to negotiate. No one's willing to have a conversation about how you guys are the ones that are standing in the way of good policy. That actually there's one side of the political aisle uh that is doing the same thing that they've desired to do, doing the same thing that the the people elected them to do, doing the same thing that we, the people have demanded they do, and the other side, which is a minority in these positions, who are being very vocal and standing in the way of passing the regular budgetary policy. And so for you to come out and to claim that it's the Republicans, it's those evil MAGA Republicans who are standing in the way of our good workers being paid for their time, it just makes you look incompetent. And for good reason. Because everyone, including those on the left, is aware, and I said this yesterday, if you were willing to admit that it's you guys causing it, but saying it's worth it for what you're fighting for, maybe we'd have some respect for you. You'd be still be wrong and we'd still push back and we'd still be fighting, but at least we'd see the honesty. Instead, you're willing to not only continue to do the bad thing, you're not only continuing to be wrong, but then you lie about it. And that adds an extra layer of of issue in what we're dealing with. Where now not only do we believe that you're wrong, we also believe that you're just a liar. And I believe that about most of the Democrats, if not all of them, especially men like Christian Menaphy, who are blaming Republicans for this when it's very obvious who's at fault, even if you're a Democrat, admitting that it's the Democrats promoting this situation and saying, but there's a good reason, at least that would be honest. But you're not being honest. Instead, you're calling on Republicans to fix it when it's not Republicans causing it in the first place. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over, talk about Trump weighing in on this Texas Senate race.

Trump Targets James Talarico

SPEAKER_01

Um, of course, you have this high-profile runoff between Ken Paxton and John Cornyn. And Trump has said he's gonna eventually give us endorsement and he's gonna expect the other to drop out. This update is not actually about the Republican primary, by the way, in the Senate race. Uh, this one is taking aim specifically at James Tallerico. And if you've heard anything from James Tallerico, you probably know the guy is like legitimately a psychopath. I mean, he is cl should be clinically insane. If we if we still had mental asylums for crazy people, this guy would certainly be on the qualified list, on the eligible list of attendees to one of those asylums because everything this guy says is crazy. We'll talk more about the details of what Trump said about James Talarico when we get back from the break. Text in at 713-779-5978. One more time. That is 713-779-KYSD. We'd love to hear from you. Text in. In the meantime, you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. I'll be right back with that update from Trump after the break.

SPEAKER_01

In a post over on Truth Social, Trump called Taller Rico a fraud and argued that the Democrat would weak be weak a weak attorney or a weak general election candidate. He said he may be the worst candidate I have ever seen, other than maybe the other person in that race, originally named Jasmine Crockett, uh he added that any human being running against him, even a child, would win. And by the way, can I just go ahead and qualify and say that if James Salarico wins, that's less of an indictment on James Salerico and more an indictment on the people who vote for him. Because if despite everything you've heard from his speeches, the things he believes about theology, he claims to be like the Christian of the left, which is just insane given his theological positions on abortion, Mary and the virgin birth, all these sorts of crazy things. God being non-binary, a legitimate claim he's made, by the way. If he wins the election, that is a massive indictment on the left. That that this is the kind of candidate they're willing to put their effort behind should tell you everything you need to know about how crazy they've gotten. Nevertheless, Talerico, of course, defeated Rasm, Jasmine Crockett uh to secure the Democrat nomination. Trump's post included a series of personal criticisms accusing him being weak and ineffective, while also claiming Republicans allowed him to win before releasing the avalanche of information about him. He said, I believe that any human being running against him, sick, incompetent, close to death, would win. Um, of course, we know that Trump has not yet endorsed a Republican candidate, but again, one of the issues that I have in this particular case, when you take a look at James Tylerico, is just the insanity of of what James Tylerico proposes. And as we've had to highlight, unfortunately, numerous times, the left that we're fighting against today, and I think a lot of people get confused because so many people can look at the Democrats of not so very long ago, and I I've highlighted this a bunch of times, but you have to remember that Barack Obama in 2008, in his campaign, whether you believe what he was running on or not, I mean, obviously as a Democrat liar, but in his campaign was apparently a fan of traditional marriage, a marriage between one man and one woman. That that was the definition of a marriage, and that Barack Obama had no willingness to change that. Said he was not interested in changing the definition of marriage. And so, Democrats, even of 20 years ago, were not nearly the kind of radical, or at least not openly the kind of radical that they are today. The Democrats we used to deal with maybe had different opinions on some fiscal policy, foreign policy, or whatever it was, but to a large degree, it wasn't what we would consider insane. It was just bad. Which there is a fine line between being bad and being insane. But that's who they were. And so a lot of Republicans today have not understood yet how far left the left has moved in their opinions, their policies, and their beliefs and their ideologies. And so we still play this game where we say, well, that's just a leftist for you. No. James Tallerico is not a Democrat, he is a woke leftist. And I understand now those things are sympatico, right? Now those things are one and the same, unfortunately. But they didn't used to be. And we can't let him get away with just pretending like they're just your run-of-the-mill Democrat. I know they are today, but we have to highlight how insane run-of-the-mill Democrats are today because it it's not the same position that we used to be in. Democrats didn't used to at least claim to believe in things like critical race theory, in in the the policy limitation of things like diversity, equity, and inclusion, in some sort of theological belief that God is non-binary and therefore people can be too, or that Mary had to consent to the pregnancy and therefore that's a justification for murdering your unborn child. Right? Those those are all relatively, on the grand scheme of things, new opinions. They are relatively recent developments of the Democrat Party. And when you look at James Tallerico, he is a perfect embodiment of the direction the left is going, the way they've been going now for years, uh, which kicked off really with Obama. I know it was going on with Clinton before that, but but really changed in the Obama administration years. You get through Obama, and by the end of that, then you have Clinton running, and then you have Biden and then Kamala Harris and and and whatever. And you end up now where Democrats are openly calling for codified movie Wade as federal law. They're openly calling uh for transgender care for children, boys to be in girl sports, open border policy, things that would have been absolutely insane to a Democrat 20 years ago, much less 50, 100 years ago. That's the shift. But that shift also applies to your constitutional rights. The Democrats are also big fans. This is why every time there's a mass shooting, Democrats say, enough of the thoughts and prayers. We need stricter gun policy. Because they've gone crazy. They're willing to subject your rights to destruction if it means the the passage of their policy

Second Amendment Organizing Pitch

SPEAKER_01

agendas. And that's why it is now so important, especially given these midterms and given what we see upcoming with the country, that you are a member of our sponsor, Gun Owners of America. Guns of America understands that we are at a dangerous tipping point in American history, insofar as our Second Amendment rights are every day on the chopping block. Every day there's another fight against tyranny and oppression and the subjugation of our rights. And that requires intentional effort to fight back against that. That means campaigning for candidates to win these offices that aren't going to do that to you. That means lobbying inside legislative sessions to make sure that good bills are actually passed that protect your rights, and the bills that would that would destroy your rights, that would curtail them, that would take them away from you, are shot down or destroyed. Shot down. Ha, pun intended. They also do that through lawsuits. Sometimes that requires suing, whether that's the state government or the federal government, suing to make sure that policies that are put into place do not stand. Things like the ongoing lawsuit against the NFA, and what is and should be looked at as an unconstitutional gun registration scheme. But that requires your support if they want to continue doing that effort, if they want to continue doing that work. So you can go to GOAHouston.com to become a member. That is G-O-Ahouston.com. It's a $25 annual membership, $25 per year. And that money is going to go right back to those lawsuits, to the lobbying, to the campaigning, so that our second member rights can continue to be defended and supported, so that your rights, which, cliche or not, protect all the rest, are kept fully intact with no compromise and no infringements. Again, that is G O A Houston.com. With that being said, Say quick reminder, it is Telgi Tuesday, which means at the top of the next hour, we're gonna have a couple people on coming on to talk from Telgee Roofing about what they do, how they work, the relationships they build with customers, how they deal with insurance, the free inspection they offer, why that's so important, why that's crucial, especially with storm season coming up, which we all hear in Southeast Texas know unfortunately a little too much about. We'll talk about all that at the top of the hour. Before we get to the top of the hour, the next segment, you guys know it is the last segment of the first hour, uh, which if you're new around here, that means we're covering the weather when we get back, going over what we see coming out from the weather today, rest of this week. Spoiler alert, I'll go ahead and spoil it, give you a little tease. It is warm. And it's going to be warm for the foreseeable future. But we'll talk more about the details of that when we get back. Pollen Spike And Early Heat

SPEAKER_01

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellant AC Service. Housing tree pollen counts yesterday reached their highest point yet this spring, and more high pollen days are expected this week. So if you're feeling the sinuses as I am, uh the sneezing, the runny nose, the watery eyes, the itchy eyes, I could probably tell you where it's coming from. High atmospheric pressure, warm weather, and a lack of rainfall are contributing to elevated pollen counts, causing, of course, many to sniffle and sneeze. You love the alliteration there. With no rain in sight, the question is how close is peak pollen season, also how close is the warmth, all these sorts of things. If you're looking at your phone's just you go to your phone's weather app and you're to peek at it, you're gonna notice a pattern, foggy nights, sunny afternoons, and temperatures that look more like late spring, early summer than they do like, you know, end of March timeframe. Each day features morning lows in the mid-sixties, climbing into the mid to upper eighties by afternoon. Uh if you look out by, say, Thursday or Friday ahead of a week cold front, we could even hit 90 degrees. Nevertheless, elevated levels of atmospheric moisture aren't just going to make us feel muggy, it also increases the potential for patchy, dense fog each morning, especially near and south of I-10, where visibility could drop to a quarter mile or less. Despite the increasingly humid air mass, rain chances are staying, we'll say, stubbornly low. They are not really on the agenda. A passing sprinkler too is possible today, but the atmosphere will be too dry to support widespread rainfall, the kind needed for both drought relief and those people who are suffering from some sort of allergic reaction to, of course, the pollen. You want the rain to kind of wash that out. Not happening, not on the agenda. Without steady rain to wash pollen out of the air, allergens can linger, build up, especially as warm temperatures encourage trees to keep releasing that pollen. That combination is going to make symptoms more intense, longer lasting. However, forecast models do indicate a more unsettled pattern may develop next week, likely mid to late week, so that conditions could change. And when I say what's coming up next week, uh what I mean by that is that as you as you look out, because again, this week is relatively staying dry, uh, we'll have some clouds, some fog. For the most part, our temperatures are gonna stay in the mid to upper eighties throughout the tail end of this week. But starting off next week, there are a few days where we have some rain chances, which is also gonna bring uh the potential for those temperatures to eke down into the lower eighties and upper seventies rather than the mid to upper eighties that we're experiencing for most of this week, which I I think for most of us is certainly a welcome reprieve. I I like warm weather. I mean, you can't really if you're if you're actively choosing to live anywhere near Houston, to a degree you've got to have some sort of at least relationship with warm weather. You don't have to love it, but you at least have to tolerate it well. And so I'm not gonna sit around and complain uh about the warm weather. What I will say is that especially for for late March, it would be nice to have those hives in the upper 70s and lower 80s rather than the mid to upper 80s and sunny skies and lack of rain that we've been experiencing. With that being said, at the top of the next hour, having Dominic and Sophia, uh two project managers, married by the way, at Telgee Roofing, coming on for Telge Tuesday. Uh, we'll get to talking about marriage in the workplace, what that kind of looks like, the relationships they build with customers, how they deal with insurance, the free inspection that Telgee offers, the work they do, all that sort of stuff when we get back. If you'd like to text in, the number is 713-779-5978. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and I'll be back with Dominic and Sophia from Telge Roofing at the top of the next hour.

SPEAKER_08

From deep in the heart of Texas, Houston's God-loving patriot, the voice of reason. This is our own star conservative, Michael Wilson.

SPEAKER_16

I'm a bandit. Let's all get a bandit.

Telgee Roofing On Trust And Claims

SPEAKER_01

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. And here on Patriot Talk920, as you're probably well aware, it is Telgi Tuesday, which means it's time to talk roofs. And I don't mean boring roofs, I mean your roof, the one that's in between your family and whatever storm that we know we get every year decides to roll through. I've got a guest, very exciting guest, Dominic Nuccio coming on. Him and his wife, Sophia, are both project managers over at Telgee Roof. We can talk all about their process, their philosophy, what kind of work they do, how Telgee operates, insurance, the whole shebang. Welcome to the show, Dominic. Hey Mike, how are you? I'm doing well. How are you doing this morning? Um I'm getting through it right now. Awesome, awesome. Well, I want to kick it off uh with a little lighthearted question right out of the gate. You and your wife, obviously being married, but you also work together. Now, I've I've got to ask, because I think a lot of couples would say that that sounds like a recipe for disaster. How does that actually work day-to-day for you guys?

SPEAKER_19

Well, I gotta say that first and foremost that God for sure makes everything happen for us in our family. Um so I mean, normal routine is we kind of turn on the work mode when we need to work and when we need to be home and do family mode, we just kind of click off the work when we can and we find a good balance with that and it works for us.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. And I I love that a lot. I think that actually tells a lot about who you guys are as people. Uh it it tells me that if you can work together and stay married in this business, you probably know how to handle a lot of this pressure. And in roofing, I'm sure there's plenty of that sort of pressure, and I want to kind of dive into that. I want to talk a little bit about what sets Telgi apart, what sets you guys apart, because I'm hearing that you two have a pretty specific philosophy when it comes to how you treat customers, how you deal with customers. Can you walk me through that? What does a Dominic and Sophie experience feel like in terms of the relationship you craft with customers?

SPEAKER_19

Well, I think one of the main things that both of us take pride in is just relationships with people. So, I mean, my goal is to find anything I can in common with somebody, and same with my wife, and then I just want to be their friend. I want them to feel comfortable with me, and then I can start talking root and explain to them, you know, whether they need a full replacement. Um for them, or if it's just a simple, um, I just had them in whatever direction needs to be done, and they've found that creating that um connection first. It always makes people more comfortable, and then they end up doing work with us and they're always happy. I mean, you can see our Google reviews, you'll see customers of ours on there that have said some really nice things about us. So that's definitely what I take pride in.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, no, absolutely. And I I love the fact that I can hear it in the way that you're speaking about it. It's not just a business perspective on how to be successful. That it seems like a lot of this is a genuine desire for that sort of relationship with the customer. Uh that you're not going into it merely with the goal of earning money, but you're going into it with the goal of saying, hey, here at Telge Roofing, our ultimate agenda is to make sure that the customers are pleased. And of course, that often comes with a level of success. Of course, that comes with a lot of five-star reviews, a lot of people being appreciative, but a lot of that is predicated, I think, on this genuine relationship where people feel like you actually care about them.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, and I think that's important, especially in today. Like, people need to know, like, we're we're all people. You know, and you call Tel Groofing, because I mean Tel Gie Roofing is a fantastic company. The owner is one of the best people I've ever met. He's mentored me through everything. I wouldn't be where I am without Roy. But um, yeah, I think people want to be treated like people, and from there, I mean, naturally it's gonna go into a conversation about your roof and and an honest conversation of how we need to approach replacing it or repairing it, whatever needs to be done. But I mean, I think that's key.

SPEAKER_01

No, absolutely. And I also think, you know, we've talked before here during Tel G Tuesdays about how most roofing companies don't don't last more than a couple of years. And you guys have been in business a very long time compared to the average. Uh, we've also talked about the certifications as as having a three-star in the president's club of with GAF. And all of these things kind of compound to create a company that's very obvious that when this relationship comes through, it's not coming from some fly-by-night roofer that's just going to be there today and gone tomorrow, but that is a a lasting relationship. And we've talked before about how those sorts of relationships are where a lot of your business comes through because you get a lot of of you know, by-voice referrals, just people having conversations about the the effort that they got. And they can I think see that from the very beginning, more than just how their roof is taken care of, but also in the relationships that you're building, that they feel like they have a comfortable person they can talk to uh about the stuff they need to get done.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, exactly. I mean, I think Tel G's done a really good job of creating that um with that viewpoint from people, you know, in the Houston and surrounding areas that we're a company that's here to stay, we're a real company, um, and we take pride in what we do. So I mean Roy has always told me, and I think it's very true, it makes it easier for my job. They already know who we are. Um at that point, like I said to you before, I mean, I'm just trying to be your friend. Find something in common, you know, real um and a lot of times a lot of times you talk about the other people, and I feel that God put me in this position and failed to really just preach his word. Um I've been at tables, I can't tell you how many times where people just start crying, we just talk about God and how the amazing things he's done in their life. Well, he's done in our lives for sure. Um so yeah, all the grace goes to him for sure.

SPEAKER_01

Yeah, absolutely. And one thing that I love about that, especially, on top of, of course, the opportunity that God's given you, not only to do a good job, right? He calls us in in everything we do to do it for the glory of God, which of course is gonna create b better anything, right? Whether it's a radio show, whether it's a roof, if you're doing it for the glory of God rather than the glory of man, you're gonna do a better job anyway. But I think it also creates a level of trustworthiness. Uh, because sometimes, I'm sure you've had this happen, the thing that a homeowner needs with their roof is not necessarily the thing they hoped they needed, right? They maybe wanted less, didn't want to spend the money they have to spend. And so if they know that the person who's telling them this is a trustworthy individual who's built that relationship, then there's a level of, well, I I know I can trust you and this is what I need done. And I think that also entails those five-star reviews as well.

SPEAKER_19

Yeah, exactly. And that trust goes a long way. When I mean, a roof is definitely financially it's it's expensive for a lot of people. Um but for people to know they can trust you because it's not just a a one-day thing. It's not just building the roof, it's that I'm here after the roof is built, and to trust that when they call me, I'm gonna be there.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. Now I want to jump into uh something that I know a lot of homeowners are dealing with and and frankly don't know enough about, uh, and that's the insurance side of this. Because a lot of people think you file a claim, an adjuster comes out, that's that. End of story. Everything's covered, everything's good to go. But I don't think that's always the story. Is that is that fair to say that's not quite always or even often how it goes?

SPEAKER_19

No, I mean insurance is a different animal right now. Um they just get tougher and tougher, but uh the good thing is they do know tongue roofing, a lot of these adjusters already know in the toll off what they're getting into. So we do have the first impression for sure. Um but yeah, there's a lot of times where I tell people right off the bat, depending on their insurance company, but I can kind of tell them exactly what to expect, but then here's a plan you know, option A and option B of how to move forward with it. So they already kind of have that in the back of their mind of hey, like these are gonna be basically what's gonna happen. There's a slight chance that it gets approved the first time, but if not, I do have options to overcome and get this to a full approval.

SPEAKER_01

Right, which is which is something that I kind of want to push over to. It seems like you guys over at Telgey actually uh actually assist in pushing back and advocating for this full claim approval. Can you walk me through what that process looks like? Because I think a lot of people just assume that they're kind of stuck uh dealing with insurance, and I'm sure that creates a whole lot of stress on top of the fact that they know they're already gonna be spending money having to deal with uh the roofing company in general. What does it kind of look like for the stuff that you guys do on the insurance side of things?

SPEAKER_19

So the insurance basically, I mean, I'm there from the start with the customer, but when the adjuster comes out from the insurance, say for example, state farm, I'll go out there, I'll meet with the state farm adjuster. I mean, sometimes we'll spend a couple hours on the roof alone, um, marking up as much as we can, showing as much damage to the property as possible. My interest isn't just in the roof, I try to get the customer, you know, whatever they can damage window screen. Like I try to get them as as much as I can to do the screen for the interesting thing. Um he only I mean I think he's been amazing. I mean so much work that maybe take one or two times that it hasn't been fully approved. So pretty confident I tell people, hey, if we get denied, we're still gonna get this done. It's gonna take, you know, it can take 30 to 90 days, but after that we'll get it fully approved. We pay all the fees for the public adjuster, for the customer. Um, and it makes it really simple. It's just a a little bit longer that we wait.

SPEAKER_01

Absolutely. And I want to be clear for all of our listeners here on Telge Tuesday. This is not some shady workaround, right? This is this is something that Telgee has the ability and the resources to do. They're helping people navigate a system that can be, quite honestly, confusing, intimidating, frustrating, and making sure that the homeowner gets a fair shake for the insurance that they're already paying for. I think that's exactly what a homeowner wants, uh especially with the company that you're trusting with one of the biggest assets that you own, your home. And so as we kind of move forward, as we're getting close here, uh, I want to, I want every person listening right now to hear, because we're heading into storm season here in Texas, and here in Houston, especially, if you've lived here for any amount of time, you're probably well aware uh about what that means. Between the hail, the wind, the heavy rain, uh, it can do serious damage, and you might not even know it until it's too late. Uh, Dominic, I want to ask, how urgent is it that homeowners get an inspection before we even get into the start of storm season?

SPEAKER_19

Well, I would say if your roof is anywhere between eight to at the most, really 15 years with insurance, like give us a call, we'll come out, let's take a look. If I can find some damage out there, if any of the team of Talgi who comes out can find some damage, we will let you know. And we can try to file a claim before the all the storms come. Because once the storms hit, I mean, it is crazy for all of us. We're a big company, we can handle it. But just know that if you get ahead of the table here, it does make it a lot easier for us to get the concept started before a big storm hits, and then everybody starts calling. So yeah, between eight to fifteen years. Give us a call, we'll come out, take a look at the roof, we'll take pictures, we'll show you what what your roof looks like, and tell you what what we advised, and then you can move forward how you'd like to. But yeah, it's a good time right now.

SPEAKER_01

Right, and one thing that I love highlighting is that this is a free inspection, right? That this is not something that people need to write a check for just to find out if there's a problem in the first place, that you guys come out and do all this for free.

SPEAKER_19

Oh, 100%. Yeah, my goal, like I said, I want to come out there, I want to get to know you, I want to um be friends with you, um, take a look at your roof, and at the end of the day, a lot of my business and my wife, what we do is with those connections, it sends us down the road, it keeps my truck moving. These people like us, they'll send us to their friends, their coworkers, their family. And that's kind of how how it works in this business. I mean, you've got to keep keep that truck rolling and that's how you stay busy.

SPEAKER_01

Right, right, absolutely. And so before we let Dominic go here, as we're wrapping up our Telgee Tuesday, I want to make sure everyone at home knows exactly how to reach Telgi Roofing. And here's what I want you to do: pick up the phone, call Telgi Roofing, and schedule again, your absolutely free, no strings attached, free inspection. And when you call, tell them that you heard about all of this through Patriot Talk 920. That number also does not change. You can call them at 281-290-0606. That's 281-290-0606, or head on over to Telgeroofing.com. Dominic, I appreciate your time for coming on with us for Telgee Tuesday. I appreciate not only coming on, but the work that you do specifically, uh, going in and forming these relationships, building lifelong customers, and and expanding that customer base to people that want to talk about you because you do a good job. And I appreciate That you're open about the fact that you do it for the glory of God. I appreciate that greatly here on the Lone Star Conservative. And so thank you for coming on and giving us your time this morning.

SPEAKER_19

Yes, sir. No, I'm happy to be here. And honestly, the truth is it's all to God. That's everything. And a lot of us need to hear that right now.

SPEAKER_01

So Yeah, no, I think people need to hear that more than ever. And so, Dominic, thanks for your time. And Lord willing, we'll talk to you again in the future.

SPEAKER_19

Yes, sir. That was a pleasure. Thank you.

SPEAKER_01

Of course. Ladies and gentlemen, with that being said, I want to give that out one more time. That is 290 281-290-0606 for your free inspection. Head on over to telgeeroofing.com if you'd like to learn more. Uh it's a great group of guys. Every interview we've had on, every single person that we've talked to has kind of showed us the same sort of pattern, right? You have a local company that's not been here for a year or two, that's going to just disappear, like a lot of roofing companies unfortunately do in this industry, but that's going to be around for the long haul, is dedicated to making sure their customers not just feel like they're there for them, but have a company that actually is in their corner. Uh, from insurance to the free inspection to what they recommend, all of it is based on the customer's needs specifically. And I think you can hear that through the interview we just had where you have Dominic Noccio talking about the fact that it, this is about forming relationships. This is about, you know, not can we get one roof taken care of today, but can we build a customer that wants to come back to us, that wants to tell other people about us, because we do such a good job, because of the relationships that we build. And you don't find that almost in any industry, much less in the roofing industry. So again, call at 281-290-0606. Let them know that you heard about them through Patriot Talk 920. Let them know you heard this interview or heard one of their ads running our station. Let them know that you heard about them through us. Give them a call for your free inspection and choose the best roofing company you can from people that you know care

Toxic Ash Fine For Housing Authority

SPEAKER_01

about you. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about Houston's housing authority, which has been fined $175,000, by the way, for toxic ash near an affordable housing apartment complex. If you'd like to text into the show, the number is 713-779-5978. That's 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Don't go anywhere because I'll be right back with that updated story after the break.

Isn't that nice of them, by the way?

SPEAKER_05

Medicare choices are easier with a professional in your corner. Senior Health Services is not associated with the government, so you know you can trust them. Visit Senior Health Services.com today to connect with a trusted agent for a free consultation.

SPEAKER_01

So state regulators have ordered Houston's housing authority to pay a $175,000 penalty and continue soil cleanup efforts after toxic ash was found next to a newly constructed affordable housing complex. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's vote completed an agreement that was over a year in the making. Housing officials ran a foul of the environmental agency back in 2024 when it determined they had uncovered ash with dangerous lead levels during construction, failed to properly test for contamination, and did not notify the state. This was not merely that they built a housing complex, and then some other company came in and oh man, there was ash found. Oh boy, what do we do now? No, no, no, no, no, no, no. When they were doing construction, they found the toxic ash that had high levels of lead, toxic levels of lead. And they not only did nothing about it, they not only continued to scrub the their construction, they not only failed to continue to test contamination, but they also didn't notify the state they had found it at all. And so since then, of course, the city's housing officials have conducted new soil sampling around the complex and begun remediation. Uh the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality Commissioner Katarina Gonzalez voted to approve the order. She said, I'm glad to see the Houston Housing Authority making corrective action on that site in Houston. As a Houston native, it's great to see. Now the Houston Housing Authority had purchased the industrial land during the tenure of former Mayor Sylvester Turner, dividing it into a northern and southern tract and pitching a multi-stage construction plan that would have extended affordable housing facilities near a walking trail uh along Buffalo Bayou. But officials scaled their plans back after the pilots of Toxic Ash were uncovered during construction on the Northern Tract next to the former Velasco incinerator site, which yeah, yeah, maybe should have known. I I again I'm not some environmental nut that does all this testing. I'm not a scientist, I'm not a researcher, I'm not a tester, right? None of those things. I don't I'm not in the position to speak out on what that requires and what our dedication should be to that particular endeavor. What I can say is if you're building near the site of a former incinerator, you maybe, just maybe, when you're gonna build a housing complex, you consider that there could be. And then when you find you're in construction toxic ash, maybe then you say, Hey, you know what? Maybe we should put a pause on the project, do some further testing, let the state know what we found so we can uh you know approach this correctly so that we're not endangering people. Just a thought. Again, that's not coming from a professional stance of some sort of audit I've conducted. That seems like just basic common sense.

Conservative Environmental Stewardship Case

SPEAKER_01

Uh more recently, Eustace Housing Authority, now rebranded as Housing Alliance HTX, collected fresh soil samples from across the true tracks, fenced off the northern tract to prevent exposure, and installed a concrete cap over one spot on the southern tract where testing already showed contamination. This allowed Mayor John Whitmeyer to announce a couple months ago that the already constructed affordable housing complex known as the point at Bayou Bend could begin leasing because it was finally safe, which it should have been during construction. Whitmeyer and Housing Authority leaders expressed confidence in the safety of the site now that officials had done a robust environmental assessment and received the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality clearance. Jamie Bryant, who has led the Housing Authority for the past year, said Housing Alliance HTX worked extensively and cooperatively with the TCEQ, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, over the past year and took accountability for the issues we inherited from the prior administration. Now, of course, the Housing Authority is not yet off the hook for the remediation of the site. While the state determined back on in December that the southern tract of the site met state standards for residential land use, its decision was conditional. It was based on continued maintenance and monitoring. As for the fenced off northern tract, the agreed order requires the Housing Authority to remove all known contaminated soils from the site while protecting neighbors from any potential exposures to pollutants that could be unearthed during the process. Now, instead of giving, usually in a case like this where you have a fine of whatever the dollar amount is, usually when you have a fine from the Commission on Environmental Quality, that money would go directly back to the state. That's usually how it would work, and then the state determines, you know, through, of course, things like the controller's office where that money will be sent. But instead of doing that in this case, Housing Alliance HTX was green-lit to donate the funds to a supplemental environmental project. So that money will go to retrofitting and replacing older school buses to reduce air emissions through the Clean Vehicles Partnership Project, of course, administered by the Houston Galveston Area Council. So more, more green stuff, obviously. And this kind of bugs me, right? Because as a, I say a conservative environmentalist, I gotta put the tagline on there because if if you just say you're an environmentalist, people start viewing you a little differently. They start thinking that you're one of those green earth freaks that stands in the road, which can I just real quickly say the more I think about that, the more it bugs me because it just doesn't make any sense. The whole point of standing in the roadway is to bring light to the carbon emission problem and to climate change. But what it seems like these people are not aware of is that when cars sit and they idle and they take longer to get to their destination, there's actually, I I know this is gonna come as a shock to idiots, there's actually more carbon emissions as a result if someone's car is sitting for an extended period of time with the engine running. It it produces more, it emits more carbon. I know that's a big shock if you don't know what you're doing, uh, but it's true, that's what happens. So when you block the roads as an environmental nut, what you are doing is actually increasing the very problem you're trying to bring light to. You're not, you're I don't, I don't know if anyone's ever been convinced to stop driving because of that. I've never heard of a single I mean, the only version of success they could achieve is if they convince people to stop driving. I've never heard of that happening in a single instance. I've not heard of one person who, as a result of the people that are blocking the roads, someone has said, you know what? I've been convinced I'm gonna stop driving now. I'm gonna stop using a car. I I've never heard of that happening. And so they've not achieved any sort of success. And so the only thing they've done is continue to contribute to the actual problem they're trying to bring light to, which is not a problem anyways, but even if it were, you've chosen the worst methodology possible for addressing it. Because the only thing you've done is create more carbon emissions. That's that's the only thing you can point to. You haven't really brought awareness. People are not on your side on it, people are not appreciative of it. No one's successfully stopped driving because of it. The only result you've done is that you increased the very problem you're trying to claim is a major issue. Nevertheless, I don't want to get caught up on that little rabbit hole. Uh, what I'm trying to point out is I consider myself a conservative environmentalist. And what I mean by that is you can look at Teddy Roosevelt, uh, you can look at a lot of people in our history that understood that God has given us dominion. Right? The the dominion mandate from Genesis, uh, which, by the way, one thing that this is the same thing with submission when you look at the household, one thing that the left, or at least the leftist position, even have right wingers who are left on some of these issues, don't seem to comprehend, is that dominion does not merely mean authority. And I want to make that clear because dominion means so much more. Dominion entails not only authority, but the responsibility that accompanies it. And so when you're talking about environmentalism, what we have to acknowledge is, yeah, as human beings, God not only gave us the authority over the earth, but he also called us to be good stewards of it. That means not being intentionally destructive. That means taking care of what God's given us, that means being intentional in our decisions. That means that when there's toxic ash being found, that we need to start having conversations about the safety of that, the the outpouring and downflowing effects from that, and then we need to address it. We certainly don't just need to build housing sites nearby and say, eh, they'll figure it out. Maybe when somebody dies from lead poisoning, then then we'll have a conversation. That's bad. So the same thing with uh, you know, all of the issues regarding illegal dumping, uh a lot of our worldwide reefs have been destroyed by by people who just don't seem to care whatsoever for the environment, and that's all bad. Let me be very clear. That's not a good thing. I understand as conservatives we're very quick to oppose anything the left favors. And I that happens all the time. If the left supports something, we almost feel this innate obligation to oppose it. We say, well, the left is supporting that, so obviously I can't, in good conscience, support it because the left does. And because the left is crazy, that means they can't ever get anything right. But you have to be aware that a broken clock is right twice a day. And if if the broken clock is sitting at 12.02 and our watch shows 12.02, you don't say the clock's broken, it's not actually 12.02. No, it is, it's 12.02 right now, okay? The clock is broken, we can all acknowledge that, but we also need to say it's obviously 12.02 at this moment. The same thing is true of leftist positions. The left is filled to the brim with clinically insane individuals who don't understand anything, who are, for lack of a better word, totally foolish, totally lost, and they have shut down sub objective morality, they have shut down any shot at truth and seeking truth, and they don't care whatsoever for what's real and what's not. But that doesn't mean that everything they ever say is wrong. Right? If a if a leftist comes out and they say something, right, whatever it is, hey, maybe getting involved in foreign wars is bad. I'm not gonna then say no, foreign wars are actually really good because the left said that they were bad. We shouldn't do that. If Lena Hidalgo comes out and she says basically anything, I actually don't think we have the budget to be increasing salaries like this. I'm gonna say, wow, shockingly, I actually find myself agreeing with Lena Hidalgo. I I actually think she's right. We don't have the budget to be increasing salaries the way that we are. And so when the left has these environmental perspectives, we should not, in an effort to look different than the left, throw environmentalism out the door altogether and say, no, we don't care one iota what happens to the world God gave us. That's that's foolish, it's wrong, it's evil, and we can't justify it by saying, but we're just opposing the left. That's not that's not a theological opposition, right? That's not how God works, that's not how morality works. Things are either good or they are bad, and they are not based goodness and badness on what other people think or believe, right? Same with your rights. We talked about the Second Amendment earlier with gun owners of America. Your rights are not predicated on the actions of someone else. Other people will do bad things and do good things. That does not change your God-given rights. And the same thing is true of things like environmentalism, right? Are there crazy people who are telling you you can't drive cars, you can't use gas appliances, uh, that that fossil fuels, as they so call them, are evil and that the world is getting hotter and we're all gonna die, so you should stop driving cars and stop having cows and we should all eat bioproduced meat in a lab. No, of course not. But that also does not mean that we should not sit up and say, hey, maybe the toxic ash pouring on our land is a bad thing and we shouldn't build houses near it. Maybe we should stop that from happening. Maybe we should have conversations about illegal dumping. Maybe we should have conversations about not building a wall directly through Big Bend. Maybe we should have conversations about promoting national parks and state parks and the land that God gave us for its natural beauty. Right? Those things are also all good. And so we have to be very careful about drawing that line. But what we cannot do is sit around idly and say, well, the left does it, so we can't. No, the left does a lot of things that we should also be a part of. And certainly on the list is caring about being good stewards about the land that God gave us and gave to our ancestors to be good stewards of. That's that's that should be a requirement. If we want to return to traditional values, one of them is being a good steward of what God gave us. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about the White House Summit, uh, which has exposed a rift over this Texas bill to end free education for illegals. Uh Save Representative Andy Hopper's legislation was never given a committee hearing in the first place. And now he's challenging his colleagues to advance legislation aimed at ending taxpayer funded government education for illegals after the pro proposal was previously sidelined over what was described as an author problem. Which, if you're wondering what an author problem is, well, you'll have to wait for the next segment to find out. If you'd like to text in in the meantime, this is one of the last breaks, so text in. The number is 713-779-5978. You can text in with whatever you'd like. Again, that number is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Ending Free School For Illegal Aliens

SPEAKER_01

So in the culture of the Texas House, an author problem is when the legislation is authored by someone whom the lobby of the chamber's leadership simply does not like. There's no other basis for denying the legislation. There's no other basis for it not getting a committee hearing. The legislation is not actually the problem. The people who are chairing these positions, who are in these leadership positions that decide what bills get heard, they don't like the author. And so it results in the policy, which is inarguably a good one, getting essentially shot down because of the person who wrote it. Right. And by the way, this is actually, interestingly enough, exactly what we were talking about just in the last segment, with our position on a lot of different things. Where I say, look, just because the left does this thing doesn't make the thing inherently bad, and we can still be honest about what's good without relying on looking to the left to see what they said about it. It's kind of the same thing here. The Texas House is shooting down policies, not on the basis of the goodness or the badness of the policies themselves, but because of who authored it. State Representative Andy Hopper announced yesterday that he is he is offering last session's House bill to State Representative Jared Patterson, inviting him to refile the proposal in the 2027 legislative session. The bill seeks to challenge Plyler V Doe, a 1982 U.S. Supreme Court ruling requiring states to provide free public education to children of illegal aliens. The legislation was not given a committee hearing during last year's legislative session, where it certainly should have. In a closed-door state leadership conference in Washington, D.C. last week, Homeland Security Advisor Stephen Miller questioned Texas lawmakers about their failure to advance legislation challenging the Plyler precedent, asking whether Texas had a rhino problem. Of course, a White House spokesman characterized the remark as a joke, but I think it is a fair question. Why did you not advance a bill? You're the state of Texas. You talk all the time about how illegals are taking advantage of the taxpayer, are taking advantage of the welfare that we have here in America, and are taking advantage of the education. Not just in terms of uh scholarships, but in terms of taking positions in the school. Even if there was no scholarship, that's still, you have a max number of students you can approve. There is an approval rate, right? There is a there is a a not just a graduation rate, but there's an acceptance rate at a college. And you got to keep that about even because you have a max number you're going to approve that you're going to accept into the school. And if you're allowing illegal immigrants in, that every illegal immigrant you let in is one actual American that you're not letting in. You're taking those positions away. And so I think Stephen Miller rightfully asked, what's going on? Why did this not get approved? Why did this not get passed? Why did this not at least get a hearing? Do you have a rhino problem? Well, it's a joke. No, not really. It's actually a fair question. Do we have a rhino problem? The answer, by the way, is yes, we do, which is why you have incumbents like Dan Crhaw, Tony Gonzalez being ousted while you have this runoff with John Cornyn and Ken Paxson. You had a statement from Ken Paxton just the other day where John Cornyn said, We won again. Ken Paxson said, I wouldn't take it as a bragging point that an incumbent spent $100 million just to end up in a runoff. That does not seem like something worth being prideful about, actually. Um, of course, sources confirm that Patterson told Miller that the legislation had not advanced because it had what they called an author problem. That comment referred to Hopper, a freshman lawmaker who took office in 2025. In a statement, Hopper criticized the reasoning behind the bill's failure. He said it is unfortunate for Texans they are represented by individuals who place a higher value on obedience and fealty than solid policy wins that would save our citizens tens of billions of dollars. He added that Patterson acknowledged the bill was good policy, but suggested personal differences prevented its passage. Hopper said, My constituents don't care who authors a bill. They care about conservative policy. Well, I'll vote for any Jared Patterson bill that does the right thing. And that's why I'm offering him my legislation from last session. Let's remove any excuse for this bill not becoming law. Hopper can uh concluded his statement by citing former President Ronald Reagan. He said there is no limit to the amount of good you can do if you don't care who gets the credit. And of course we have it's part of the Republican Party of Texas platform uh that we have public education should be reserved for American citizens and opposes providing taxpayer funded education to illegal aliens. But you don't need a party platform to tell you why that's true and why that makes sense. It is an ongoing issue we have where consistently our government seems to prioritize people who are not American over actual Americans. That is one of the biggest issues we have because it it covers a ton of different stuff. Right? When you say what's Michael, what's the number one issue America has right now? I would argue that it is the lack of prioritization of American citizens. That's it. A lot of stuff outpours from that, from the criminal justice system to illegal immigration, to Islamic influence, to the welfare state. All of these things I think are predicated on a lack of desire to care ultimately, first and foremost, for American citizens. For I'll take it a step further and use the actual word, for Americans, which is more than just someone who got a certificate saying that they live here, right? It actually is more than that. And so for years this sort of stuff has been going on where we open the borders and then we let people who have come here illegally into our schools, taking slots away from hardworking Americans who want these jobs, who want these positions in in college. We take that away and then we justify it. Or we refuse to pass it because we don't like the person who authored it, because we have personal differences. That is not what the taxpayers deserve. That is not what we the people demand of our leadership, of our elected uh individuals. We demand more than that. We and we should demand more than that, by the way. That's a good thing to demand more than that. We should we should certainly desire that those in positions of of uh representative authority are willing to do whatever it takes to protect us. That's their job. Their job is not to protect illegals, it is not to provide welfare to people who are not citizens, it is not foreign entanglements, it is it is not dealing with with these sorts of negotiations. No, the responsibility of our government at the local, state, and federal level is to Americans first. That doesn't mean that if we were perfect, that we couldn't, you know, have some sort of foreign aid, whatever. But we're not there at all. Take a look at the American populace right now, and you'll find out very quickly we have a lot of very large issues that are going unaddressed and untaken care of. Until we've addressed the homelessness crisis, uh the poverty crisis, housing costs, big companies, illegal aliens, transgender mutilation, until all of those things have been duly addressed, redefining marriage again, um, rededicating ourselves to Christianity and to Christian ethics, fixing our criminal justice system so that people who are committing crimes are not just let back out on the streets to commit more crimes and hurt more people. Those are all real issues that are plaguing Americans. And until every single one of them has been fixed, we have no business doing anything for illegals, doing anything for people in other countries, no business at all. We have a priority. Our government has a priority. And they've got it all backwards, they've got it all twisted, and they're willing to continue to allow it to be twisted on the basis that they don't like someone who authored a bill. And if that does not speak to you greatly about the rhino problem we have, whether they want to say it's a joke or not, then you're never gonna wake up to it. That's what's going on here in the state of Texas. We wanna we wanna be the best state, we're gonna be the lone star state, where we used to be the Republic of Texas, we're great. And then our elected representatives turn around and they do stuff like this where they don't prioritize us, and they can justify it. Well, I didn't like that guy. That's actually worse. At least if you believed it, we could believe that you're an ideologue who has principle, even if I disagree with it. But if you're doing it because you don't like somebody who authored it, I don't trust you at all. With that being said, when we get back from the break to wrap up the show this morning, we're gonna jump over and talk about a teacher out in Tyler who's being ruled incompetent. I I just I hate this terminology. You guys know I hate the mental health terminology. Being ruled incompetent for a sex abuse trial involving a student, Karen Dunn, was sent to a state mental hospital after being charged with aggravated sexual assault of an elementary student. And still they're saying, yeah, but she's not competent to stand trial. She didn't know what she was doing, whatever the claim is. We'll get into the details of that and why that's so insane after the break. If you let sex in, this is basically your final opportunity to do so this morning. The number is 713-779-5978. One more time. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. I'll be right back to wrap up the show after the break. Stick around.

Teacher Abuse Case And “Incompetent” Ruling

SPEAKER_01

a woman who worked as a substitute teacher in the Tyler Independent School District for seven years continues to be assessed as not competent to stand trial on allegations she sexually abused an elementary school student. Karen Lamai Dunn, who was 51 years old, was arrested in May of 2023 and charged with aggravated sexual assault of a child, a first-degree felony, an improper relationship between educator and student, a second degree felony. A Smith County grand jury indicted her on both charges in August of 2023. She was later ruled incompetent to stand trial and has been in a state mental hospital since then. Which that's not even getting into the fact that you hired a teacher who apparently was incompetent. Nevertheless, on March 18th, Judge Taylor Heaton of the 475th District Court in Smith County again found Dunn not competent to stand trial for her alleged crimes. Attorneys for both the prosecution and the defense told the judge the state hospital was not helping Dunn, and Heaton agreed to send Dunn to outpatient treatment at the Andrews Behavioral Health Clinic in Canton. At the time of her arrest, Dun was a substitute teacher for her in-school suspension at Raimi Elementary. Dunn had been a substitute teacher for the district since 2016, so for years. According to an arrest affidavit, the student said Dunn had touched her inappropriately, then invited the girl to her house for a girls' party. Dunn then gave the student a piece of paper with her address and phone number. The student stated she told a regular teacher that Dunn talked to her about stuff she does with her sister and boyfriend, and if the girl went to the teacher's house, it would not hurt. Dunn allegedly denied touching the girl and said kids lie on teachers all the time. School officials said Dunn was immediately terminated following her arrest and would never be allowed back in the district. Under no circumstances is that behavior tolerated at Tyler ISD. It's unclear if she holds ex educator's certificate. No certificate issued to any Karen that has been flagged as under review by the TEA, and she is not listed on the do not hire registry, so she may not have had a certificate in the first place. But that's that's all side on the side. Those are all side concerns. The main concern here for me is not even the trial itself. Though I could spend the whole show discussing this whole mental health debacle where they use phrases like incompetent stand trial that justify not sending someone to their punishment quick quickly. Oh, well, they're just not competent, right? This is how people end up getting slaps on the wrist for the crimes they commit that are inarguably heinous and unjustifiable. But they often, quote unquote, get away with it because they're incompetent. They're they're mentally unhealthy. They're having a mental health crisis. That's what predicated all of this. It's not just like evil that we're trying to look at through the guise of, well, it's just mental problems. Yeah, it's called evil. It's when evil gets into your mind, you actually do go a little bit crazy. You know, anything crazy is, it's really evil. That's what it is. And so it that's insane enough. But the fact that she was a teacher in the first place, despite being uh obviously in a position where they're willing to rule her incompetent by matter of insanity, if she's that far gone that she can't even face justice for touching a little girl, then why was she allowed to be a teacher? Where was the background check? Where was the the certification? Where was our willingness to actually pursue truth and find out who's teaching our kids? Yeah, exactly. That's that's the real problem here. That over the show today. I want to thank everyone for tuning in. You've been listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. I hope everyone enjoys the rest of their Tuesday. Get outside, get some fresh air, even though the pollen counts are a bit high.
