Houston’s Islamophobia Proclamation And The Texas Backlash
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Houston City Council steps up to condemn “Islamophobia,” and we ask a blunt question many people avoid: when politicians use that word, are they protecting peaceful neighbors or policing what Texans are allowed to say? I break down the headline, the language in the proclamation, and the deeper fight over free speech, religious liberty, and how the First Amendment gets invoked in modern culture battles.
Then we move from rhetoric to policy and paperwork, because that’s where big decisions get made. I dig into reporting about a Dallas area Islamic school and how Texas school choice programs collide with concerns over curriculum, funding sources, and public accountability. After that, Aaron Anderson from Texas Scorecard joins me with a detailed update on the Epic City “Meadow” development, including the municipal utility district drama, county filing deficiencies, and why “we banned Sharia cities” is not actually how the local approval process works.
We also hit a rapid run of Texas and national updates: the Valero Port Arthur refinery fire status and what investigators are still sorting out, Houston’s warm March weather and fog setup, and Delta pulling special airport services for members of Congress while TSA staffing issues stretch lines nationwide. I even get into why airport security debates keep resurfacing whenever the system is stressed.

SPEAKER_08From deep in the heart of Texas, it's Houston's gun loving patriot in the voice of reason. This is the most star conservative, Michael Wilson.
First Amendment And Religious Liberty
Houston’s Islamophobia Proclamation Debate
SPEAKER_16Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Texellent AC Service. It's good to be back with you again now, Wednesday morning. And by the way, coming up at the top of the second hour, as you guys are probably well aware, we're going to be having Texas scorecard come on. This is Aaron Anderson, especially to talk about what's going on up in Hunt County regarding this freeze tied to the epic development and Hunt County now rejecting plans for Epic City. And so that'll be exciting to get into. But really, before we get you know to that seven o'clock, there's other stuff going on in relation to Islam. And yesterday we did kind of a kickoff segment talking about, you know, Chavez and how he had this day, and now the TEA is removing any mention of him from all the education stuff, which thank goodness. But we talked about all of that and how disgusting it is that we have these sort of people we celebrate while we have great men of history. Another crazy thing about the men of history is that they would be dumbfounded by the decisions that their posterity made. Specifically in regards to things like Islam. And uh if you're new to the show, this is gonna sound crazy. If you've listened to the show for any time at all, this is gonna sound like a normal day with me. Um but this whole religious liberty nonsense that that now has us in this mess. It didn't put us in this mess, by the way. Um, foreign immigration policy did that. But now that we're in this mess, every single day, things like, of course, Islam and whatnot are defended as some sort of God-given right in America, are defended as we can't say anything about it, we can't do anything about it, and if you do, like we said before, you know, you'll be targeted, you'll be harassed, you'll be you'll be the one that's discriminated against, you'll be the one called Islamophobic for merely the crime of speaking the truth, uh, that Islam is actually a pretty terrible religion and it's evil at its very roots, and all of these sorts of things about it. We're not allowed to do that. We do it anyway, but we're not supposed to. And of course, the number one argument that I get from the left, who by the way, all of a sudden cares about the Constitution, they don't care about the Constitution when it's related to school shootings, or they at least think that it is. They don't care about the Constitution when it's related to the right of the people, state sovereignty. No, no. They care about the Constitution when any time that they, you know, perceive what I'm saying as bigoted. Then all of a sudden, the Constitution makes an appearance and they start using it to justify their position. Like abusing the Constitution to somehow claim uh those born here are automatically American citizens, anchor babies, as if that's what we intended in the wake of the Civil War. Right? Obviously, that was done with a specific intent, and it was done in a specific context for a specific group of people. And it was never intended to let in a bunch of people who then have kids on our land. That was never an expectation. And so the Constitution was written for a specific group of people. And the reason I bring that up is to say that when you talk about all this Islamic influence and all this influence from other religions in general, I mean, it's not just Islam, that's one of the most dangerous right now, but there's other ones that are that are certainly having an influence on American culture and American way of life. We all know this, it's very clear. But of course, the Constitution makes an appearance as a sort of defense for those sorts of people. And I want to make it very clear on my show, because I'm not afraid of it, I'm not apologetic about it, I'm not sorry for it, and I want to be clear the Constitution was never intended to protect Muslim worship, it was never intended to protect Hindu worship. That was not the intent, that was not the direction the country was headed, that was not the people that were in this country, and the founding fathers, I can guarantee you, never expected that there would be Muslim hordes in our land who would receive constitutional rights in the first place. And they knew this, and they claimed they they they didn't just know it. We're not just assuming that they they said it. They said this constitution is written for a moral and religious people, by which they were, of course, referring to Christians, those who adhere to the Word of God, the one true God, not Allah, but our God, Jesus Christ, the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, three in one. That's the God they were referring to. And the First Amendment was never designed to protect every form of religious worship ever created. It was designed to protect Christians who had denominational and tertiary differences about what they believed about the Bible. Differences about free will and predestination, differences in beliefs about baptism and communion, these sorts of differences that you could say divide, but Presbyterian, Baptist, non-denominated, right, all of these, you know, back then Quakers, Puritans, the list goes on. It was to protect those differences so that none of them would ever be forced into a denomination they didn't believe in. They would never be forced to violate their conscience. If we have laws requiring that you baptize babies, Presbyterians will get happy and Baptists will be pretty unhappy. And that was supposed to be protected. That if you're a Baptist, you don't have to baptize your children. You can baptize them when they, you know, are saved. That was the intent of the First Amendment, was to protect from a tyrannical federal government. It wasn't even a state issue, by the way, just to as a side note, wasn't even supposed to protect people in certain states because states had state religions well after the time of the Constitution. Well time after well, well, well long and far after the ratification of the Constitution, you had state religions. And so it was never a state issue in the first place. So Texas already, we know, has the right under the Constitution, if we want to instate a Christian denomination in our state. That we we have the state sovereignty to do that, according to the Constitution. But even apart from that, again, it was never intended to protect other worship. It was merely intended to protect Christians of different belief. And the problem is, because of mass immigration, which really started in the 1960s, it wasn't really an issue before that. We were still well in the 90 percentiles for Christians back before the 60s. After you passed the Sart Heart Seller Act, and beyond that, when immigration actually sped up even more after the Heart Seller Act through the 70s, 80s, and 90s, and recently with illegal immigration, now we've got all of these Hindus, Muslims, and third worlders in our country who don't adhere to our religion, who don't believe in American ideology, and it's resulted in a lot of change in Western culture. Europe is a good example of this, but so is America now. So is Texas. For crying out loud, so is Houston specifically. And they use and and they warp the Constitution as some sort of defense for their religious worship. And unfortunately, most conservatives let them get away with it. This is why you'll hear, well, we'll ban Sharia law, but Islam isn't really the problem. Islam itself is protected, which is simply not true. It's simply not there. It's simply not the intent. But we messed all that up through mass immigration where you brought all these people in who are now adherents to the Constitution. We say, well, they deserve the same protections. They don't deserve to even be here to deserve the rights in the first place. That's that's the main issue that we're contending with. Nevertheless, of course, of course, Houston City Council has now come out, and they're really frustrated. Not about Islamic influence, not about the change of Western culture, not about America being essentially invaded and taken over by foreign people with foreign religions, uh, but they're actually really upset at those of us who are opposed to this sort of influence. They're really upset at you and I for speaking out against Islam, for saying that Muslims are actually in a nature evil, that the God they worship is evil, that the beliefs they adhere to are evil. We're somehow the bad guys for pointing out basic objective truth. And so now City Council has come out and they're raising concerns over Islamophobia and political attacks on Muslims, which this segment, by the way, is exactly the sort of thing they're referring to. The segment we're doing right now on this show is the very thing that Houston City Council is up in arms about. You have several members of City Council right now who gathered outside City Hall alongside Muslim community leaders yesterday to formally designate March 15th as International Day to Combat Islamophobia, as the group faces what they call a task attacks here in Texas. The proclamation said that local Muslim students have been subjected to religious harassment, including the desecration of the Quran, which occurred at the University of Houston last year when a man threw the Holy Islamic text into a bonfire at a Muslim Student Association gathering, which is not a problem and should never be a problem in America, but it is. The proclamation defines Islamophobia as a prejudice against the faith group rooted in fear, hatred, and ignorance that manuf that manifests in discrimination, exclusion, and violence against not only Muslims, but those who are perceived to be Muslim. You have Houston controller Chris Hollins, who said, if we're up here extolling all of the merits of having such a diverse population, we owe it to every community to stand with you when you are under attack. And make no mistake, the Muslim community is under attack right now at the state level and at the federal level. Hollins was joined by City Council members Julian Ramirez, he's the guy who organized the event, Joaquin Martinez, Tarsha Jackson, Abby Kamen, Carolyn Evan Shabazz, and Alejandra Salinas. Muslim leaders included Imran Ghani, he's the director for the Houston chapter of the Council on American Islamic Relations. So they had a foreign terrorist organization present. They also have the Islamic Society of Greater Houston president Imran Ghazi. And of course, they have all of this going together, and they're saying that Muslims are facing an unprecedented political attack. Of course, they're referring to CARE being designated a foreign terrorist organization. They're also referring to the GOP ramping up its attacks on Sharia law since last year. And so you have all these people coming out. They're calling out against Chip Roy, uh, who met with anti-Islam activists, Amy Meckelberg and Tommy Robinson. Uh, they say that they can't stand the rhetoric coming out from the right. Like when Chip Roy said, Texas will not survive, America will not survive, and the West will not survive if we do not stop the march of Islam in Texas, which is objectively true. Insofar as America exists as a nation with a specific set of ideologies, it will not survive the march of Islam into its gates. It's impossible because Islam directly competes ideologically with everything we claim to believe. And so they say that the Muslim community accounts for 2% of Texas' population. Uh the city's proclamation said Houston's Muslim community has significantly contributed to the social, economic, and cultural fabric of the city and of Texas, which we all admit and say is bad. Yeah, we're not denying that they've contributed to the social and cultural fabric of the way that our city and our state operates. That's the problem. They shouldn't do that. They shouldn't have a contribution to that. Of course they're contributing to the cultural changes in our city and in our state. And that's not a good thing. It's not a positive thing. Ghazi, again, the president of the chap the Houston chapter, said that he feels a deep connection to the Abrahamic tradition, pointing to an Islamic belief in Jesus and his eventual return. He said his belief inspires Muslims to work for unity and to build connections with other communities. He said across the country, we continue to witness concerning levels of misunderstanding, discrimination, and bias directed toward Muslim communities. This reminds us that education, dialogue, and cooperation are more necessary today than ever before. And when you're talking about education here, he's referring, he's trying to refer, of course, to the education of Americans on what Islam really is, that it's really a peaceful religion that just wants to kind of cooperate and unify with everyone else. But what he's actually referring to, or we should all be holding him accountable to be referring to, is the very education that they teach their own children. Which, by the way, qualifies by the time they're 10 years old, they're learning that the great commission of Islam is that Sharia law would be the law of the land across the earth, that everyone, all of the infidel, would be subjugated to the moral law found in the Quran, which, if you were not aware, is not good law, is not moral by any stretch of the imagination. And so the council members' concerns also come out as you have uh the Democratic State Representative Suleiman Lani out of Sugarland, who announced he would chair the Texas Interfaith Legislators Caucus, uh, with Lani raising concerns about Muslims becoming a political target. He said, Let me be let us be more united, more courageous, and more determined to build a Texas that no one may feel unsafe because of their faith. And you'll notice they're not doing this for Christians who are under attack, which we are every day. They're not doing this in the wake of an assassination on a Christian commentator named Charlie Kirk. They're not doing this when the violence is high against churches. No, no. They're doing this when when political commentators and politicians are speaking out about something that's true. They come out in staunch defense of a religion that, if it had its way, would subjugate them to law they don't believe in, to law that they think is distinctly evil. And so when they talk about ignorance and discrimination, that is the very basis of Islam, is ignorance and discrimination. The very basis of allowing this in our country is ignorance, and the end goal is discrimination. You know, the Christians in the West long have been some of the most tolerant people on the face of the planet. And that's not a stretch. That's not hyperbole, that's the truth. That's what's happened here in America and here in Europe in general, our the land that our founding fathers came from. The West, that's what's happened. We've given up our ability to say what's what's good and what's evil, and that there is objective truth, and we're willing to stand on it. We've thrown that by the wayside in some sort of pursuit of tolerance as a virtue when it's not. And so this very segment alone, I'm sure, is on the list of attacks on Muslims and attacks on Islam, and it's Islamophobia, definitionally, according to Houston City Council. But I got news for Houston City Council, and that is that no amount of fear-mongering or titled insults is ever going to dissuade people who believe in the truth, is ever going to dissuade people who are willing to stand up and say, actually, there are things that are true and there are things that are false. And we are called to speak that truth, to present in front of everyone what those falsities are, to expose the works of darkness, and to say, yeah, we don't actually want that in our state. And you can call me literally whatever name you'd like. You are more than welcome to demean my religion, to come after me, but many of us, and rightfully so, are not going to back down from that. It's not going to discourage us or cause us to sit by and say, you know, I guess I really don't want to be called an Islamophobe. That's a terrible insult. Uh no, actually. In fact, everyone prior to 50 years ago was Islamophobic. You know, we fought wars over Islamophobia because we used to know, we used to not be ignorant as to what Islam believed and what lengths Islam was willing to go to. So when they come out and they say, Well, where are the peaceful ones? You you misunderstand. Islam is not a religion of violence, but it is. At its very heart, Islam is a religion of subjugation, of slavery to sin. The same as any religion, really, that denies Christ, but it's especially difficult because it's a religion that has a lot of influence in our city, obviously, in our state and in our country now. And coming out and holding a press conference where you have National Muslim Day or whatever you want to call it, and trying to convince Christians and Americans that we're not allowed to speak out about the Islamic influence because that's not nice. That's discriminatory, that's harassment. Yeah, I don't care. You can you can call it whatever word you want to call it. What I'm doing is I'm speaking the truth, and I'm trying to save the state that I've spent my entire life in. I'm trying to save the country that my ancestors have been in since the time of the Revolutionary War and before. I am trying to save the country that was founded on the backs of Christians for Christians and for their Christian descendants. I am I am doing my very darndest to save this country. And that's not going to stop because you call me an Islamophobe or because you've been deceived by Muslims into thinking that their religion is one of peace and unity. It isn't. At its very heart, Islam is a divisive religion that desires to subjugate us. And that's not just the violent jihadists who are willing to shoot up a church or bomb towers or whatever number of things they're willing to do. It includes every single Muslim. Because Islam, at its heart, as a religion, is one that believes this. And maybe some of them are not jihadists. They don't want violence to do that. They want to do it through political effluence. They want to do it by becoming politicians and rewriting the law. Regardless of which direction they do it in, it's the same end goal, which is that all of us would one day be in subjugation to sharia. And no amount of fear-mongering and name-calling is going to change that truth, which means that no amount of fear-mongering and name-calling is going to change our intent and our requirement that we speak the truth. With that being said, speaking of that Islamic influence, pretty terrible story coming out. If you'd like to text in, the number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You are listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Don't go anywhere because we'll return with that update after the break.

SPEAKER_04If you are of Medicare age or getting close or you have a loved one that is, be careful with those unsolicited phone calls that I know you know about. We get told about them all the time. What you need to know is that many of those phone calls are not even legal. They're coming from offshore call centers. Sometimes they're calling regardless of whether you're on the do not call list. Isn't that nice of them, by the way? It's really sweet of them to just do that because they are thinking that they can't get caught. Bottom line is when you get on there and you talk to them, they're already kind of operating sidelong of what should be done. And sometimes people end up in plans that they did not intend to enroll in. And so what do you do? Call somebody local. If you got a local agent, my gosh, call them and get in front of them. And if you don't have a good agent, think of an organization like Senior Health Services where you can sit down, talk about what you're looking for, and get the help that you need. You don't need to be talking to phone operators from other countries that you don't know who they are, where they are, or what in the world they're doing.

SPEAKER_16So a new report from the Middle East Forum details the links between a top Hamas official and a Dallas area private school. Again, this is the Brighter Horizons Academy, again, funded directly with cash from Iran. It's based in Garland. This academy was founded back in 1989. The school's website literally notes their work in Quran and Islamic studies subjects ahead of academic coursework. It describes its overall mission as to develop practicing Muslim leaders and to be a model Islamic educational institute. So they're they're again completely open about this. This is not hidden behind some sort of paywall or you find this out if your kids are actually end up attending. No, no, no. This is directly on their website. They're fully honest and open about it. They're affiliated, of course, with the Islamic Services Foundation, the ISF, which produces and distributes textbooks for Islamic schools throughout the US. Several of the textbooks reviewed by the Middle East Forum teach young children open hatred towards non-Muslims, which again is not a surprise or a shock. We all know that if you're attending a Muslim school, you're going to be taught Muslim things. And it is a pretty straightforward Muslim thing that there is a genuine hatred for those who are not Muslim, for those who are considered infidels. Um apparently one title in this catalog of textbooks explains that, quote, those who reject truth among the people of the book and among the pagans will be in the hellfire to stay there. They are the worst of creatures. Those who don't, who reject truth, right? The truth of the the the Quran. So again, if you're not a Muslim, you are the worst of creatures. That's that's how they view you. Among the school founders was Razmi Al-Mallah, who served on the board of the Holy Land Foundation, which is of course the largest terrorism financing operation in the United States history. Uh Al-Mallah was listed by federal prosecutors as unindicted as an unindicted co-conspirator in the 2008 HLF terror trial. One teacher in the school is apparently the niece of a Hamas leader. Her father is a convicted terrorist collaborator. Other staff members have reportedly had alleged or documented ties to terrorists and to terror organizations. The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies has reported that Bright Horizons Academy received up to$995,000, just shy of a million, from the Iran-affiliated Islamic Development Bank, which has spent more than$13 million in at least 44 K 12 schools here in the U.S. Bright Horizons was recently added to the schools eligible to receive funds through the Texas Education Freedom Account School Choice Program. Other Islamic schools that have been added to the list include Bayan Academy in Galveston County, Excellence Academy in Dallas, and the Houston Quran Academy. Other ISF textbooks used by Brighter Horizons and other campuses teach that those who disbelieve in a law will suffer the punishment of hell, which is a terrible place to be in. ISF leaders include individuals also linked to the Muslim Brotherhood. And so again, all of these things are interconnected. And it was very eye-opening uh a little bit ago, and we had John Guandolo come on, who's done a lot of explicit research into a lot of these topics, and who's well aware of where the money is, where the connections are, what they teach in these schools, uh, what the ISF textbooks look like, where they get their money, right? All this stuff he's very well informed. And we'll have to have him on again sometime here in the future. But he did a phenomenal job at kind of painting this picture for us here on the Lone Star Conservative of what's going on in our state. Because these people that are now getting taxpayer dollars are directly connected to Hamas, are directly connected to the Muslim Brotherhood, are directly connected to the Holy Land Foundation with this terrorism case, and they are inextricably linked to Iran cash. And so there's all this stuff where you can see this sort of Muslim influence on full display being taught here in the US, and then in the midst of all of that, which by the way shouldn't be allowed to transpire in the first place, it shouldn't even be allowed to exist here, but it is. On top of all of that, now we're deciding to give them taxpayer dollars to continue their operations. As if somehow that that's a good idea. Yeah, I know that we're having an issue with Muslim influence, and we know we're having an issue with basically what you can call as nothing less than an invasion and and an affront to American ideology. And in the midst of all of that, you know what would be great if we, the people, funded them, if we continue to give them more power and more money and more opportunity, when not only should we not be doing that, but we should be doing the direct opposite. We should be going after them and saying, hey, we don't want this in our state, we don't want this in our country. You can feel free to get out if you want to teach that. If you want to be involved in terrorism and jihad and the subjugation of people to the Quran and you want to view Americans, which still you can you can debate it however you'd like, is still largely a Christian nation. If you'd like to come in and believe that Americans are, by your own words, the worst of creatures, then feel free to go to a country where you have the best. And feel free to return to whatever country you're from that practices Sharia law and that practices Islam en masse. Uh, enjoy that. But don't come into my country and try to change the moral fabric of our nation. Don't come here with some attempt at earning our dollars with the explicit intent to continue raising your children to one day put us under their moral standard that we don't believe in. This country is not yours. It was not started for you, it was not created for you, it does not exist for you, it exists for Christians, those who come from the founding fathers, those who believe in the promises of the gospel and in the promises of American greatness. It's not uh for it's not for you. There are plenty of nations that you can go to that will love you as a Muslim, that will support you as a Muslim, that will fund you as a Muslim. I mean, you're literally again getting cash already from Iran despite not even being in Iran. You have plenty of other options if you want to do this sort of stuff in the modern day. America is not on the list. Or at least it shouldn't be. And the most frustrating part of this should be that this stuff is even allowed to continue. And yet, somehow, we've now deemed it a good idea uh to allow them to be eligible to participate in our school choice program. Where now we are inevitably going to be funding Muslim students to be taught about the evil of America, about the evil of Christianity, um, and while while out of the other side of their mouth, they're cheering for unity and and for this sort of coming together-ness, and for all of us to just be happy-go-lucky and friends as they teach their children with your tax dollars to one day take control of your country and take it away from you and put you under their moral law. And you know what? The only pushback they have is well, it's the Constitution. Well, you're you're a crazy Islamophobe. Okay. Don't care. This is evil, and it should never be allowed to happen in our country. With that being said, when we get back from the break in the next segment, we're gonna jump over. We have an update from Valero. I don't know if you guys saw, but there was this large fire at the Port Arthur refinery, uh, which produces, I think, more than 400,000 barrels of oil every single day. Uh, we've got an update uh from that fire, kind of what happened, um, whether or not it was brought under control, all of those sorts of things, which we'll talk about after the break. As always, if you would like to text in, be a part of the show, and you can do that for a variety of reasons. Maybe you disagree. Maybe maybe you're listening and you're a Muslim and you say, no, that's not what we believe. Go for you to text in. I will happily educate you on what you already know, which is that you're a liar uh and Islam is what I'm saying that it is. Or if you have any other disagreement. Or an agreement, something that you want to hear reported more on, uh text in at 713-779-5978. One more time. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Don't go anywhere because I'll be right back with the Valero Fire update after the break.

SPEAKER_16A fire at Valero's Port Arthur refinery has, as of an update yesterday from Valero, been brought under control. They say that all personnel are safe, and officials reported no recordable injuries following the incident, according to the company confirmation. Now, of course, according to Valero's website, the refinery that suffered the fire employs about 770 people and processes around 435,000 barrels of heavy sour crude oil for gasoline and other essential fuels every single day. Valero also came out and said that the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. As a precaution, at the time of the fire, local authorities issued a temporary shelter in place order and implemented a partial road closure while the air quality was monitored. Both measures have since been lifted after air testing by Valero, the Port Arthur Fire Department, and the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality indicated no threat to the surrounding community. A statement from Valero read, We appreciate the support and continued coordination with the various authorities. And the last announcement was simply that they're going to continue the investigation to find out what caused the fire in the first place. It's a little bit reminiscent of the Pemex fire over in Deer Park. Again, we didn't know the details of what had happened at first, other than there had been some sort of leak and they didn't really know what had happened. We're kind of in a similar position with this. We don't really have a lot of the details as to what went on. I'm sure you guys have seen the pictures or the headlines about the fire itself. I made pretty big news on Monday and Tuesday. But I wanted to give you guys that update that everything seems to be in the all clear now. And from here, all that needs to be done is the continued investigation. I'm sure that's going to include not only Valero, but it's going to include the DEX Commission on Environmental Quality, it's going to include uh the fire department and other various authorities to get to that point. Um we also have to wonder if there's going to be lawsuits as a result. I'm sure there's also questions as to what this means for the refinery itself. Obviously, it's it's phenomenal that no personnel were harmed, that they were able to lift the safety measures and that everyone's good. Uh there's no lingering toxicity as a result of the fire. Uh, but what about the economic effects now? Since we since I I mean obviously that's less important than the the technical safety aspect of things, but now we've addressed the safety aspect of things, everything's in the all clear for everybody. Now I think there's going to be questions regarding, okay, so what's what's the outlook from here, right? Clearly, you're you self-admit this produces quite a bit of oil. It's fairly important to our economic development. So where where do we go from here? What what does that process look like? Uh what do we need to do? What kind of impact is this going to have over the next couple of months, couple of years? What does the process look like in terms of rebuilding, building in a new site? All those are going to be questions that will certainly be coming out on top of the already existent investigation. Hopefully there won't be, you know, I I don't expect there to be any lawsuits, mainly because there weren't any reported injuries. Unlike, you know, the fire in Deer Park, where you had people who died as a result and others who were taken to the hospital with injuries and what have you. So of course there were lawsuits coming out of that. Since no one was harmed, I I can't imagine there's going to be lawsuits. But we have to wonder what happened, right? Because there's supposed to be safety mechanisms in place to prevent this very sort of thing. Because it's not just bad for the workers, bad for the company, potentially bad for people. As even before, it's also probably pretty bad for the environment. Even if everyone's safe, which as always is the number one priority, then we can start addressing other questions. It's kind of like being America first in general, right, is a good analogy of this. Of course, there's no inherent issue with aiding another country. That's not inherently wrong to do as a nation. It is not inherently wrong to have some sort of foreign aid package. The issue comes in when you're tens of trillions of dollars in debt and you've got a massive homelessness crisis and a massive welfare state, and you can't seem to get it together. And you've got a massive criminal party in the nation, and you have a ring of pedophiles in the Epstein list, right? You have all this stuff concurrently going on, and then you say in the midst of all that, you know, we need US aid. We need more aid for foreign countries. No, I actually don't want to give a dime to foreign countries until we figure out our own problems. We actually have enough of our own problems to address before we start helping anybody else. They can wait. Kind of the same thing here. Of course, the number one issue is is everyone safe? Is there anything we need to do to make sure that everyone, whether they're an employee or an individual living in the area, is good to go. Once that's been confirmed, which it sounds like it has been, then we can start asking about the environmental impact. We can start asking about the economic and fiscal impact, uh, and then start getting into, well, what happened? Where were the safety mechanisms in place? How did this occur? Was it an employee's fault? Was it a fault of the safety mechanisms at the facility? Was it a company issue? All those sorts of questions are certainly going to come up as a part of this investigation that hopefully we'll have a level of transparency too. Hopefully, this is not one of those behind closed doors sort of debacles where we're not informed, we don't get told anything, we don't get to know, it's not our business. And they talk to the TCEQ behind closed doors, and they talk with the various enforcement agencies as to what happened, and we don't get any of the details. Hopefully, this stays above board, and we all get to find out what transpired, how we prevent that in the future, and what the outlook is from here. With all that updates being out of the way, with all of those updates being out of the way, when we get back. For the break. It is the bottom of the first hour, which of course means that we will be covering the weather, uh, how we expect today to sort of look. I know I mentioned yesterday some potential for rain and coming up next week. We're getting closer to next week every day. That's how time works. SPEAKER_16Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellent AC Service. So as we get into the weather this fine Wednesday morning, everyone should be aware that Houston is on pace to having a pretty warm March this year. Even as we have a late week cold front that could briefly take the edge off the early taste that we're getting of summer, before that front arrives this weekend, temperatures across Southeast Texas will stair step higher each day by Fridays. By Friday, we're expecting highs to come within maybe a degree of 90. High atmospheric pressure is strengthening and gradually shifting overhead, keeping things quiet and largely unchanged through the rest of the week. Rain chances remain near zero, with sinking air suppressing cloud development, meaning again, we're not expecting any sort of random storm to come out of any of this. Instead, we're locked into this sort of repetitive cycle. Afternoons are going to warm quickly under a mix of sunshine and a developing sea breeze. That onshore flow pulls moisture from the Gulf of America inland, and by nightfall, that humidity sticks around. The result is, of course, patchy to occasionally dense fog, developing late at night into early morning. That fog usually clears by mid to late morning, giving way to another warm afternoon, which then of course leads to the same thing with the humidity lingering overnight, fog, warm afternoon, et cetera, et cetera. All of this is adding up within a week, with a week left here in the month of March, which wild to think about, less than a week now. Houston is on pace to see its fifth warmest March on record as temperatures climb this week. Highs will consistently reach the mid to upper eighties, roughly 10 degrees above what's average for this time of the year. Just as important, nights are not cooling us off as much as we'd hoped they would. The added humidity is keeping overnight lows mild, helping drive the monthly average temperature higher. It's the combination of warm days and muggy nights that has us running just two degrees shy of March 2020. Now, a small change is going to arrive this weekend. A weak dry cold front is going to slip into southeast Texas from the north as a sort of backdoor cold front. It's not going to bring rain, or at least it's not expected to bring much rain, but it will shift winds out of the northeast and temporarily lower humidity. And you will likely notice the difference. Moisture-dependent new point temperatures are going to fall into the 40s and 50s, signaling much drier air. Meanwhile, afternoon air temperatures ease back into the upper 70s to mid-80s. Again, not a dramatic temperature drop by any means, but it will feel noticeably more comfortable compared to the recent sticky and hot air. Do not this is a this is a plea. Do not get too used to it. Onshore flow is expected to return by early next week. Moisture is building back in and the pattern resets, bringing more warm afternoons, foggy mornings, and a continued run at March heat come next week. And so it's kind of a short-lived little cool front that we're going to get from the north. But at least we get something, right? Let's not complain about the slight cool front that we're going to get. That's going to bring those temperatures again back closer into the upper 70s, low 80s, and into next week, potentially even bring, as we get into the middle of next week, some rain chances. And so, of course, we'll keep you guys updated on what those rain chances are right now. It's kind of sporadic, maybe looking at Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday. We don't have a good total idea of what that looks like, but we'll keep you guys updated every morning here on the show, what we're expecting for each day following. With that being said, as I mentioned earlier, I have an Aaron Anderson on to talk all about the Epic updates. Epic City, the East Plano Islamic Center. Updates with the county leadership, with the MUD district, the judge, and and whatnot, the judicial side of things, with what's going on with the municipal utility district, all of that coming up in the next segment. If you'd like to text in the number is 713-779-5978. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'll be right back after the break.
SPEAKER_08From deep in the heart of Texas, used to God-loving patriot, the voice of reason. That is the Lone Star Conservative, Michael Wilson.
SPEAKER_16Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Textellant AC Service. And on the line, we have Aaron Anderson coming on from Text to Scorecard to give us all the big updates on what's going on with the East Plano Islamic Center. They've renamed it the Meadow. They've tried to, you know, change all that sort of stuff. We have massive updates coming up. Welcome to the show, Aaron. Thanks for having me on, Michael. Absolutely. I appreciate your time. I want to kick it off talking about an update from a little bit within the last week or so, because there's been a few. And the first major one is this kind of ongoing fight with the municipal utility district there that has attempted at least to incorporate the land that Epic sits on. Can you give us some background on what's going on with that and then this newest update in that side of things?
SPEAKER_15Well, yes, Michael, a lot of uh convoluted synamicans going on here. Uh so the planned development that is happening uh here north of Dallas, um, it's called Epic City or the Meadow. Epic, as you know, is short for East Islamic East Plano Islamic Center. So that's an existing um uh mosque and community in Plano. They want to expand. So they bought this uh uh rural land and unincorporated areas that they want to build this big expanded um Islamic area, and well, maybe we need uh water and other utilities when they're outside cities. So they create what's called full utility district or mud for short, um, and they provide these services and they they finance it by issuing bonds that are repaid the property taxes paid by the future regulatory areas. So there was an extra mud there that you're gonna area. Um they come together and uh board members on the land who were uh who were um receptive through this new development and then they explained that they connecting 400 plus acres for the new development into their existing land. The reason it's important if you had otherwise uh the ethnic developers would have had to go um and create their own land, and it's an approval process through the um state agency, and they might not have been able to get it. And so it was much easier for them to go to an existing website and put it into your existing uh district um so that we can put this on our application for our development.
unknownRight.
SPEAKER_15And what what we found out is these uh the new directors apparently were not eligible to hold this position. Right, and so they had they had two people that were fedic to their their calls but not actually eligible to hold this position. Uh this was looked into by the state, and then the the type of AD actually called the lawsuit that said, Hold on, um your uh your your the approvals for ethics that you've done are not valid if your board members have taken this action are not valid. So that happened, they had a um meeting, a board meeting for the mud candidate last Friday. Um, but uh the development in that law case has the Fed had no temporary retraining order um while we while we figure this out. So that happened the day before the meeting, the meeting was canceled. Um on March 30th, this this issue will be in court on this MUD. Is this MUD even um correctly constituted at this point? And if these directors are invalid, then the decisions that they have made, including the Amex and the epic development into their MUD is also invalid. So that's all on hold. Um in the court with the temporary situation, they're looking to uh extend that ban and until this all gets figured out. Right. Um and with which that means that if you don't have a MUD as part of your uh as part of your plan to for your development, then your development cannot go forward.
SPEAKER_16Right. And I want to, I know it's convoluted, but for our listeners, make it very clear this is all backdoor sort of operations. Uh, because you mentioned that usually, if they're going to foment a new MUD, they would have to go through certain state processes, which would have verified eligibility, would have, would have done all these things that they may not have ever been approved for in the first place. And so instead they kind of incorporated the land from an existing MUD. But one of the things that I think needs to be very clear, that's crazy to me, is you mentioned that they put new board members that were receptive. They did this by going to this random off-site location at GPS coordinates. And essentially all of the board members that were on resigned. We don't, again, we don't really know the details, but they resigned, and then the new board members are appointed and immediately then annexed this land into the existing district. And so it's a whole wild turn of events, and I'm really glad to see this, TRO. Um, it's it's also a good sign, at least to me, of where the case is headed because especially if if the people on the board are ineligible to be there, and the whole process seems a little bit convoluted and like it wasn't done correctly, then at least we have kind of an option for proceeding in that side of things. We also have the other side of things, which is the county side of things. Uh, we have Hunt and Collin counties, which are both involved in this. Can you give us a little background on what's gone on in Collin County so that we can jump over to what's going on in Hunt County?
SPEAKER_15Yes, and let me just advise your listeners that these kind of shenanigans are very common with these uh MUD districts and other special districts across the state. There are there are thousands of them. Uh they regularly meet in in these uh you know kind of unknown locations to anyone else. And uh while they're public meetings, the public never goes because they don't really know that they're ever happening. So this kind of dealing does happen um on the regular with other causes. Right, but here so back to back to our um our ethnic city development, which actually stands two counties, which with most of the land is in Collins County, and a little bit of it is also in Hunt County, and these unincorporated areas that means the county has the um it has the approval process um on the on these applications for these new development. Uh and so um it came on Collin County radar earlier because that that was ahead of the game and that the Collins County people were um were more aware of it, and it got into the courts it's actually been um almost the year that this has been being uh talked about, and the uh the paperwork, the official paperwork has been anticipated, and they actually the the developers of the Epic City uh project now called the Meadow, um, is uh they submitted their their paperwork to Cullen County back in December, and Cullen County officials uh the city uh the county uh engineer person will review the paperwork. Cullen County immediately just send it back to them as incomplete. They just kind of rejected it. They're like, look, you didn't even provide us all the things that you needed to provide. So we could say like send it back and uh send it back to us with with the w when it's complete and we'll look at it again.
SPEAKER_16Which I'm sure, by the way, i is is at least partially also related to the MUD situation, right?
SPEAKER_15Right. Well, this was this was one of the one of the incomplete pieces of uh of paperwork of things that were missing. Um but um the the the that has not come back to Colin County, so it hasn't even made it to the commissioner court, which also figure listeners do not have nearly as many um options for um when it comes to reviewing and accepting and rejecting and development. So they have a lot more um uh authority to um accept or reject various development for various reasons. The counties are really limited by the by the local government code, by what they're allowed by state laws to do. So we're allowed if these applications are complete and and meet the legal requirements that have the state, then the counties have to approve them. Um so they can't just say, well, we don't we don't really want that big a development, or we don't want that type of development. Um so that's a real problem that that also underlies this. But so where they are in Cullen County is simply they haven't even submitted a full and complete application to be reviewed under those standards.
SPEAKER_16Right. And so that again is is merely a halt, right? It's not the final say, it's not declined, you're not able to move on with this. It's it's incomplete, and we'll hear from you in the future when all these things are dealt with uh accordingly. So where are we at? Because you mentioned it's banned two counties. Collin County is most of the land, but there is some of the land falling in Hunt County, which means you also have to get approved by both. So what's going on? I think the latest update we have in terms of this development in general is coming out of an update from Hunt County. What's what's going on over there?
SPEAKER_15Right. So um yesterday during the Hunt County Commissioner's court meeting, the commissioners um pretender advisement, um their their uh their their county attorney had looked over all the documents submitted um by the epic developers and found um more than a dozen deficiencies in that application. And they did they went they went over them in detail, um, but they are some of them were in fact um related again to this med issue, not the not the philosophy of everything like what's happening um to the five different factors, you know, a valid you know a valid med part of the application you have to know that you have a commitment to utilities including water um development and the way you do that is I think here's uh here's the committed to that might have been up in the air you're you're thinking of whether that's even happening. So that was just one of the multitude of uh deficiencies in the uh application. But the the county attorney had made it very clear that we cannot we cannot reject this out of hand because we don't like the project. The county simply doesn't have that authority, believe it or not. This is a separate bone of contention with the legislature. Uh but they're like, look, we have a long list of things that are gonna have to be fixed by the epic developers before this thing can can begin to go forward.
SPEAKER_16So a fairly similar response that we got from Collin County, which is that not that it's being declined because they don't like uh the Islamic community or because there are dangers of having this sort of development, but mere technical issues with the application itself, from MUD to everything else. There's there's, as you mentioned, a variety of reasons that they had to disapprove of it. Um and so again, we see the sort of technicality at play where it's not declined on the basis of the fact that we all think it's a bad idea uh because they're saying they don't have the authority to do that, but it's being declined on the basis that they don't meet the the eligibility requirements to produce it in the first place.
SPEAKER_15Well, that's right. And people need to understand there's a lot of um, I mean, in the local communities and you know, statewide, and from from from all the top officials, we hear um the the term, you know, we're banning Sharia cities. And that was the implication here that this is an Islamic development, it's gonna be a you know, it's gonna they're gonna impose Sharia law, it's gonna be what they call a Sharia city, and uh we we have banned those. Well, um obviously obviously our state laws have not banned them because look they're going forward and we're having they're having to be uh somewhere addressed and that's a local issue. If there was part of We are not the basis in our current law for rejecting a a planned community in an unincorporated area.
SPEAKER_16Right, which I think is very important to understand because I think a lot of people have heard a lot of the rhetoric about Islamic cities and Islamic developments and how Texas is targeting and going after them. And as of now, all of the quote unquote targeting and going after is, and it's still a good thing because at least we're able to do it, but it's all based on technicalities as to incorporation, MUD, all of these sorts of things that are merely to do with the application rather than the actual practical side of the issue that we're being told that it's about. Um, which I guess takes us in two directions. One, kind of the curiosity as to where it goes from here, because obviously if it's only being declined for technical reasons and they're able to find ways around those technicalities, which they've shown a willingness to do thus far, uh, where it goes on that side of things, because if they're able to meet those technical requirements, then they get approved. And what that means to the legislature. I mean, we have a legislative session that's going to be here before we know it next year, where we start having conversations. So if you're really going to ban Sharia law, you're really ban Sharia cities, certainly something like the meadow uh is is what people envision when they talk about these sorts of issues. Where do we go in dealing with that? Because if counties are saying they don't have the authority to stop this from happening, and it's only because they just haven't yet met the technical requirements, how do we prevent this from happening? Because obviously whatever we're doing now with all the rhetoric is not the basis for these declines. Uh and so I think we need to have far more in-depth conversations about what needs to happen from here so that we can actually, you know, have a conversation about prevention.
SPEAKER_15Well, that is actually becoming a a big topic. I think it's going to be something uh that will be at the core in the coming legislative session. But you know, it's it's um it's obviously not easy. Um we have originally development of what's happening in their community and what what pictures they can put on the applicant, um, whether they're gonna be, you know, good neighbors as it were.
SPEAKER_16Right, right. Having more local authority to make those sort of decisions for people that are actually deeply embedded in the success of that community. Uh with that being said, Aaron, how can everyone keep up to date with all the reporting that you guys are doing statewide in regards to the epic development as more updates, I'm sure, as they come out? How do you get up to date with those and and stay up to date with everything coming out?
SPEAKER_15Well, go to Texas Scorecard.com. All our reporting is here. Uh I always recommend people subscribe to our um weekday morning email detective minute. Um, Aaron, I appreciate your time this morning for coming on and for giving us these updates. Well, thanks for having me on to talk about it, Michael. It's a little convoluted, but um uh there's a lot of irons in the fire, as they say. So stay tuned for more details.
SPEAKER_16Absolutely, Aaron. Thank you. We appreciate it. Thanks, Michael. With that being said, ladies and gentlemen, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about Delta suspending their airport perks for members of Congress amid the ongoing government shutdown. SPEAKER_21The Medicare Minute with Justin White is brought to you by Senior Health Services.
SPEAKER_04If you are of Medicare AIDS or getting close or you have a loved one that is, be careful with those unsolicited phone calls that I know you know about. You don't need to be talking to phone operators in other countries that you don't know who they are, where they are, or what in the world they're doing.
SPEAKER_21Medicare choices are easier with a professional in your corner. Senior Health Services is not associated with the government, so you know you can trust them. Visit senior health services.com today to connect with a trusted agent for a free consultation.

SPEAKER_16So members of Congress who typically get special accommodations at airports are not going to get that service on one major airline during the ongoing TSA partial government shutdown. Delta Airlines has now come out and said they are temporarily suspending special airport services for members of Congress. The reason is operational strain during the ongoing partial government shutdown. But I would argue it's not just the strain, it's also putting out a sort of statement. In a statement, the airline said the move came as staffing and resources challenge, and those challenges accompanied with those things continue to affect travel nationwide. They said due to the impact on resources from the long-standing government shutdown, Delta will temporarily suspend specialty services to members of Congress flying Delta. Next to safety, Delta's number one priority is taking care of our people and customers, which has become increasingly difficult in the current environment. Under the change, lawmakers will no longer receive certain airport assistance or expedited services that had previously been available to them while flying Delta. Instead, members of Congress will now be treated the same way as any other passenger based on their SkyMile loyalty status. That means access to perks like priority services will be entirely dependent, like everyone else, on frequent flyer status, not elected office. The decision comes as airport operations across the country are, of course, under pressure due to the partial government shutdown, which has affected staffing and pay to the Transportation Security Administration, the TSA. Here in Houston, wait times at, say, George Bush, for instance, uh have stretched, as we have been well aware for days, as as near as four hours as you have fewer TSA reporting to work. Uh, you also, of course, have ICE that's been deployed uh to assist at a variety of airports, including here in Houston. I will also highlight, by the way, because people have been talking about it, as to the success of TSA in general. And this is pretty wild because I actually I I knew, right? It's not a big surprise for many of us, uh, but you have to be aware that unsurprisingly, when you uh form a sort of group in the wake of a disaster where the government gets more power and more authority, it usually doesn't turn out the way that you wanted it to. Uh it usually turns out that in many cases, the outcome is actually worse than before. You know, it's like take your shoes off, and now no more bombs. And it's like that's not how it works. And the reason we know that's not how it works uh was not just because of the fact that you don't do a good job, it's also because we didn't need it in the first place. That was not the issue, right? If you want to go back and you're talking about in the wake of 9-11, I don't want to get into all the conspiracy theories and all the conspiracies that uh certainly existed, but there is certainly evidence that there were a lot of things that we knew in advance that we did not take proper precautions for. And it had nothing to do with taking your shoes and your belt off. That that was not the basis for what happened. It wouldn't have prevented it. You want to know how we know it wouldn't have prevented it? Uh because TSA uh underwent a test uh back in 2015. And I I know this is a decade ago, things have changed since 2015, but it's the latest real test we have. The Department of Homeland Security's IG Red team uh did a test to find out how the TSA was operating, to find out how successful they were at the prevention of these sorts of crimes. And so they had checkpoints where they had fake bombs and fake guns, but they would have, if they had been, would have had all the qualifications of being real as a sort of verifying case into whether or not it would be prevented. If somebody had a real bomb or a real gun, would they get through? Is what TSA is doing actually successful? Are they actually preventing these sorts of crimes, or was it uncommon before it's uncommon now? And TSA is basically just for show. Basically just performative and and an infringement on just basic common sense and an unsuccessful level. And what the Department of Homeland Security found back in 2015 was that they were able to successfully breach 67 out of 70 TSA checkpoints with fake g fake bombs and fake guns. You know what failure rate that is, 67 out of 7? That is a 95% failure rate. The organization tasked with your safety, and I don't mean your safety in terms of like the FAA dealing with radar and air traffic control and you know, or the the airline companies with their pilot training and safety. I'm talking about, you know, these sorts of mass casualty events and acts of terrorism and violence. The agency tasked with preventing that has a 95% failure rate. Can you think of a job that you could have a 50% failure rate and you'd stay hired? Can you can anyone think of a job? Even if you own your own business and you have a 50% failure rate. If the if if you own a company and half of your products that you ship out are defective and nothing gets changed, do you think you're going to stay in business even at 50%, then at 60, and then at 70%, and then at 80? And you get up to 95% and you start to think that maybe you'd be even more successful if you didn't have it at all. The odds of s of successfully stopping this would have been just as prevented had you not had TSA. That TSA is roughly useless in general. And that's not to be down on the workers and to say they shouldn't be paid because we're calling them to do the job. They should certainly be paid. That's not to get into the optics of the government shutdown, but it is to say the organization in general is a total and cataclysmic failure. It's not even close. Any other job in the world, a 95% failure rate would mean immediate, I mean either major reformation or disbanding. That's what that should and usually would look like at that sort of failure rate. Even at half of that, even if you had a 40% failure rate, you would start to have serious conversations about your ability to do the job and whether or not we need to change things. But once you get up to 95%, we start to really question if there's any point in your existence as an organization at all. I think the very clear answer is that no, there's not. And the four-hour lines and the taking your shoes off and all that is a major inconvenience for literally, based on every actual test we've ever done, completely useless. It is completely useless. And so, I mean, I I know that's a kind of separate conversation, but with all this going on, I think it's worth bringing up. This is a good time to say, you know what? I know the lines are long. How about we just don't have a TSA? How about we just disband the entire organization, save by the way, it it's not free. It's not just that it's useless, it's something that you're paying for that's useless. Okay, it's not just something you get free that's also useless and inconvenient. It's inconvenient and it costs a lot of money. You want to save the funding. How about we just cut the organization in general, disband it entirely, and say, you know what, I think we can figure this out without a major organization dedicated to failure, since we're on the topic. I think that's the best case outcome. And it's the best case scenario is that we just get rid of TSA in general. It's been completely useless by every single metric, every single standard we've ever tried to apply. They don't do a good job. They're not designed to do a good job. They were designed to maintain more power and control over you, as the government frequently does in the wake of disasters. Uh, and they justified it. And now here we are with a 95% failure rate, and people are complaining about long lines. It's like, well, we could fix all of that. We could fix the failure rate, we could fix the long lines, the inconvenience permanently uh with the ending of the Transportation Security Administration. I think that's a best I think that's the best outcome we could possibly hope for is to see that happen. Nevertheless, with that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over and talk about the University of North Texas uh that's planning to cut women's and gender studies minor, which have already been cut, but now they're talking about cutting it. Uh before we go to that break, real quickly, I just want to highlight not only is Delta now coming out and saying that they're not gonna give special perks to elected officials, but just a fun update. United has announced that they're now gonna have the triple seat combo uh on a lot of their planes that they're adding, where if you buy the three seats in a single row, they have like a special package where it's you're buying three seats, but you you pay for one ticket and it's a three-seat ticket. And those seats come with leg rests that go up beside the seat, and then they give you a mattress that goes on top of the seat across the leg rest. I'm trying to create a picture here over words. It creates a sort of small bed size facility uh between the seat and the leg rest, where they'll put a mattress and you can sleep on your flights. It'll of course be more expensive. I think it's a pretty great idea for everybody that's complaining about the the size and uh the movement, mobility. You know what? Buy the three seats. I think that's pretty cool. I think that's another pretty cool announcement coming out from Airlines. But like I said, with that being said, after the break, we're gonna talk all about the University of North Texas, this women's and gender studies minor, it it being cut. Uh, they're also aiming to close at that university a$45 million budget deficit by ending programs that have low enrollment because they're wasting money educating students when there's not enough students to educate. We'll talk more about the details of that when we get back. If you would like to text in, the number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and I'll be right back with the University of North Texas cutting some of their programs after the break.

UNT Cuts Low Enrollment Programs
SPEAKER_16Why do MUD districts exist? Municipal utility districts. It seems to me that the developer is using it to pass the cost of development to the residents. Also, they're supposed to go away after 20 years, but they don't. Just another tax. Kind of reminds you, of course, of something like a toll road. Oh, don't worry, you're just paying the toll to pay the cost of the road, and then all of a sudden the toll road stays a toll road forever. Nevertheless, the the background, just as this is an actual answer as to why the districts exist the way they do, in a lot of these rural areas, you won't have access to city services. And so instead of it being taxpayer funded to the city, they create a specific municipal district, utility district, designed to cover the rural areas outside of city limits. Since you won't have things like essential water, sewage, drainage, and road infrastructure in these developing areas, uh, they they come in and they say, hey, we need a municipal district to kind of act as a city, but only for these essential services. Since you're outside of the incorporated area and you won't be covered by city services, you still need access to the services. That's still a legal requirement. And so we need a district to to run that. Now, unfortunately, rather than it being just a district that runs it, it then turns into another taxpayer-funded entity, right? That has its own sort of power. Rather than you saying, hey, I want to live in a rural area, I'm willing to pay for all my own stuff, and I don't want to cover anybody else's costs. I don't want I didn't want city services, I didn't want to pay for that. I'll do it myself. They won't let you do that. It's it's they they have so many strict regulations on it. Now, on the bright side, in the case of the Islamic Center, uh, that is ending up to work out for our good because our legislators are scared of a fake interpretation of the Constitution, and they're scared of the courts, and they won't have a spine and say Texas is gonna do what Texas does, and you can you can get over it and say we're not we're not approving this. Instead, we're having to fight them on technicalities, and right now the main technicality we're fighting on is at least the mud. And so at least in that case, it seems to be uh benefiting us at the moment. Uh but I certainly do understand your perspective on it. I think it makes perfect sense. It is just another tax uh that kind of shares the bulk of that, which people wanted to get away from. That's a lot of the reason why people move out of cities in the first place. Nevertheless, let's go ahead and jump into this story. So, University of North Texas. Um Texas has finalized plans to close or consolidate a series of academic programs, including the Women's and Gender Studies Minor, as is working to rectify that$45 billion,$45 million,$45 billion,$45 million,$45 million budget deficit that they're facing as a result of the low enrollment programs. They announced they intend to curtail a series of courses and degrees that currently face slow enrollment. A merger of the Department of Department of Linguistics with the Department of World Languages, Literatures, and Cultures is the most substantial change. In addition, UNT is going to be phasing out three master's programs, one undergraduate major, 25 undergraduate minors, and 21 graduate or 20 and 21 undergraduate certificates that have average enrollments below two students per year. Eliminated programs include a major in Latino and Latin American studies, minors in American studies, African studies, Mexican American studies, peace studies. What the heck is peace studies? Asian studies, LGBTQ studies, and women's and gender studies. Students currently enrolled in these programs will be allowed to complete their degrees, but the programs will not accept new students so that it can be phased out as those students graduate. The changes, of course, follow similar reforms over at other schools like UT Austin, UT San Antonio, Tech CNM, and Texas Tech. University of Houston has also met recently to start addressing some of these issues. UNT is the first taxpayer subsidized university to explicitly tie its restructuring to budgetary concerns. It also follows the announcement from President Harrison Keller's notification that their budget deficit had grown to$45 million, hence where all this is coming out of. And so I think it's pretty straightforward. These things, on top of being educationally unsuitable for our students, they on top of being absolutely pointless. It kind of reminds you of TSA, right? On top of the fact that they're useless, pointless, and failures, they also cost money. They're not free. Even if they were free, by the way, they still wouldn't be worth it. They would still be useless and an inconvenience and a waste of people's time. They still shouldn't exist, even if it were free. But big shocker, it's not free. It costs money that the taxpayers are often subsidizing, especially when you have low enrollment, so less students paying it, and they're gonna get the same salary in a lot of these positions. And so who's gonna pay for the extra enrollment? Who's gonna cover that? Uh oh yeah, that's the taxpayers and the other students not in those degree programs. And so not only is it a waste of time, it's also a major waste of money, especially when you're dealing with a budget deficit. Why in the world do we have peace studies? Why are we having Africana studies? And why are we having LGBTQ studies and women's and gender studies? I mean, these are all absolutely useless degrees that even if and this is so many different ifs that still wouldn't justify it. Even if those things weren't immoral and disgusting and perverted, even if that was the case, even then it would still be a waste. Even if we believed that the LGBTQ community was good, that it was morally acceptable, even if studying women and gender studies wasn't you know laden with woke perversion. Even then, what's the point of a degree in it? Why do you need a degree in LGBT? What are you gonna do with it? What's the point of that being a collegiate effort? Oh no, you just if you really want to know about gay history, you can read a book about it. What's the point of a college or degree dedicated to it? No one knows. No one can tell you, no one gets a good you know what the number one job is coming out of that? Unemployment. You know what the number two job is? Grifting. That's basically it. You're either unemployed or you're grifting. And by grifting, I I mean they're either commentating, they either become public speakers for LGBTQ issues or for feminist gender issues, or they end up in these crazy research positions, getting govern unaccountable government grants, where then again, they're further getting your taxpayer dollars to do insane research, uh, like like the the research into homosexuality and genetics and all these sorts of things that are funded to the tune of tens of millions, if not billions, of dollars that are coming out of your pocket as we're dealing with, as we've admitted before, a whole number of crises. With that being said, we can get back in the back. We're gonna talk about a Conroe judge who is now pleaded guilty to a DWI charge from back in December, yet again highlighting the need to have better standards for who we have in office, who we have on the bench, and who we put in a position of some level of representative authority. I think we have I think we should certainly have higher standards than people who are getting DWI charges. We'll talk more about the details of that case after the break, and maybe if we have time, we'll wrap up just giving you a little update on NASA, which is pretty exciting. In the meantime, you are listening to Lone Star Conservative, text in 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and I'll be right back to wrap up this morning's show after the break.

SPEAKER_16Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative brought to you by Texel NAC service. Not only should we demand that we have better leaders who don't get DWI charges, we should also demand that those leaders that we do have that are better do better things. And one of the main people making that demand is, of course, our sponsor, Gun Owners of America, who through their campaign lobbying and lawsuits are demanding better from our state, local, and federal officials to fight for your God-given rights. You can go to GOAHuston.com to become a member. Which goes back to campaigning for those better candidates, lobbying in the legislature for those good candidates to write, author, and pass good bills, making sure the bad bills are shot down, are stopped in their tracks. And then, of course, by w being willing to sue when there are bad laws or bad policies or bad orders that get put into place that violate your rights. If you would like to become a member, again, that is GOAHouston.com, where that money can go back to making sure that the campaigning, the lobbying, and the lawsuits can and must continue in defense and support of your God-given rights. That's GOAHuston.com. So just a quick update The Conroe Municipal Court Judge, who was charged with driving while intoxicated back in December, pleaded guilty yesterday. Same as Judge William Wagner, who at the time said that he was not guilty and he was going to fight back on this in court. Um apparently he has pleaded guilty to the DWI charge and was placed on community supervision for one year, pay a thousand dollar fine, pay additional DWI related fines and court costs, and serve a 90-day driver's license suspension. He also has to submit to alcohol and drug testing, completing a DWI education program, undergoing an alcohol and drug evaluation, avoiding alcohol and controlled substances, reporting regularly to a probation officer and installing an interlock device on his vehicle. He said, quote, I have a sworn an oath as a Marine, a soldier, and a judge, and today I am speaking directly to you because the facts of this case are being twisted for political gain and cheap headlines. Let's kill the lies right now and do not have multiple WIs that is fabrication designed to destroy my reputation before you hear the facts. Here is the truth. Let's be clear that the legal outcomes and my past causes were based were were correct based on the facts. Regarding the night in question, I never leveraged my title. Reports claiming I said, be aware that he's a judge or lies on a sworn affidavit that are directly contradicted by body worn camera footage and transcripts. I respect the badge and expect no special treatment. However, I expect the truth. I was informed the afternoon of a situation with one of my soldiers. Navigating that situation resurfaced difficult memories and the heavyweight of losing friends. All this stuff where he kind of tries to sort of get your pity and justify it. Um I think part of the probation. I'm down with community supervision for what he did, despite the fact that it could have killed somebody and often does in these sorts of incidents. Bare minimum. You're not capable of that if you're willing to make these sorts of errors. You have uh di disqualified yourself from that sort of service. I think that's bare minimum if we're going to do probation. Nevertheless, that will do it for the show today. We'll talk about NASA and updates on space travel tomorrow. Cool stuff. You've been listening to Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Enjoy the rest of your Wednesday and Godspeed.
