Trump drops a major endorsement while Texans are already voting, and it instantly reshapes the Republican Senate runoff conversation. We walk through President Donald Trump backing Ken Paxton over John Cornyn, why the timing is so unusual, and what it signals about loyalty, leverage, and how much power a national figure should have in a state primary. I also talk frankly about the risk of endorsements turning into “pick the nominee” politics, and why that precedent should bother anyone who wants voters to stay in charge.

Then we hit a story that proves how dangerous headline culture has become. A viral claim about Paxton and a child abuse case sounds explosive until you look at the mistrial, the lack of evidence, and a family refusing to put a victim through another brutal cross-examination. The point isn’t to protect any politician from criticism, it’s to protect reality from manipulation, because a movement that can’t tell the truth can’t govern.

From there, we connect tech, culture, and daily life: Fort Bend ISD using AI to pronounce names at graduation, the debate over assimilation and shared language, and whether AI is slowly training people to stop thinking. We also cover a Texas settlement over pesticide misting on produce labeled USDA organic, how “organic” marketing can mislead consumers, and why the Make America Healthy Again push resonates. On public safety, we dig into Harris County ankle monitor failures and accountability, and we’re joined by Mark Palmer from Friends of First Responders on getting rapid financial help to injured firefighters and other first responders.

Welcome And Guest Preview

SPEAKER_08

From deep in the heart of Texas, it's Houston's gun-loving patriot in the voice of reason. This is the Lone Star Conservative, Michael Wilson.

SPEAKER_18

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. You can tell my voice is still a little scratchy today, but it should sound a lot, a lot better. Hopefully, that's the plan at least. We'll see if it sticks around after a couple hours of speaking. Now, there's a lot of news out today. By the way, two special guests coming on the show at 7 o'clock. Of course, we're going to have Texas Scorecard. Specifically, we have a very exciting guest from Texas Scorecard today. We'll be going over with Daniel Greer kind of some of the stuff going on with the Texas Lottery. Uh, considering the Texas Lottery Director, Gary Grief, has been re-indicted after the initial charges were uh dismissed. There's been a whole debacle with what's going on with the Texas lottery. Daniel has been reporting on all the different gambling issues, casino issues, game rooms, gambling, all this sort of stuff for a while now. And it's it's kind of gotten out of hand. At 7:30, so about 30 minutes after our Texas scorecard interview, another very exciting guest coming on. Uh specifically, we're going to be talking with Mark Palmer from Friends of First Responders, kind of talking about uh a very new, exciting update to some stuff that Patriot 920 is doing, specifically now our first responder of the week, which we'll talk all about with Mark, uh what first Friends of First Responders do, all that sort of stuff. You won't want to miss that phenomenal interview as well. Now, those are the two guests we have today. Uh in the meantime, we do have a lot of news. And I'm sure you guys heard the big stuff. If you if you managed to even for a moment, I mean if you were on the front page of Google, this might have been recommended to you. If you open social media, it was certainly there. If if you were just browsing the news, this was at the top of the list. This is the biggest news of the, you know, day, yesterday. Specifically, I'm sure you guys already know what I'm talking about. I don't know, you know, if there was anything else that even comes close yesterday to reaching this, you know, echelon of fame and popularity

Trump Endorses Paxton Over Cornyn

SPEAKER_18

in terms of headlines. So you probably already know what story I'm referring to. If you don't, then you managed to completely stay off the internet because President Donald Trump has now endorsed Ken Paxton in Texas's closely watched Republican Senate runoff, um, really doing some significant damage to the John Corning campaign here on the second day of early voting. Today's the third day, but this was all done yesterday, which is just a f uh uh the most random time possible to offer an endorsement, by the way. Can you imagine? You tease the endorsement a couple months ago and then you wait until voting is already underway. People that have already made their decisions that maybe would have made a different one. You you wait until we're already in early voting to even talk about it. Um kind of weird to me. Nevertheless, in a very lengthy truth social post, Trump praised Paxton, the current attorney general, as an American first patriot and true MAGA warrior. He also, by the way, um he kind of softened the blow a little bit against John Cornyn. I I say softened it a little bit. He still went after John Cornyn, but he did do it a little nicer than I think he could have. He kind of went after and said that he was he's been a great guy recently, he's done some good stuff, but that he was not supportive during difficult periods of his political career, that he was not there when he needed him to be, that John Cornyn had only recently kind of seemingly started backing him, and that for a long time John Cornyn was just not on his side. And he's glad he is now, but it just doesn't seem like that's real. Basically was the was the gist I got from it. He also said Ken Paxton is my complete and total endorsement to be the next United States Senator from the great state of Texas. And of course, again, it was very lengthy. He went into everything from the economy to the Save America Act, the filibuster. He he went into everything and kind of tied it all into what he thought Paxton would do. He talked about Paxton's record as kind of being a bulldog, a fighter, right, and saying that we need those sorts of people in our Senate. And so there was, again, there was a lot of different stuff uh contained therein. But that that's after months, months that I think many of us have been speculating. I always kind of guessed that he would endorse Paxton. The only kind of way I saw that that wasn't gonna be the case was there were some people who were saying, well, he'll endorse Cornyn, and then he's gonna give Paxton the the attorney general of the US job. That's that's what's gonna happen. And you know, I could buy that. I I I don't want to say I was convinced of it, but I I could have bought it. I thought that was a reasonable alternative. Uh it could have made sense that Trump makes a deal, you know, they pass the stuff that Trump once passed, Paxton still gets a great job. Everybody kind of wins in their own way. But I always as far as mere endorsements go, as far as merely who's Trump more likely to pick for the job, I kind of expected that it was gonna be Paxton, just based on the fact that Cornyn really has kind of been a thorn in Trump's side generally. And I get that many of us have very short political memories. I know that especially with short form content and podcasts the way they are, that a lot of us we tend to forget stuff within a matter of minutes, hours, days, weeks, and months. And so something that happened, say a couple years ago, very likely not on the forefront of our mind. Very often, it kind of just gets washed away with the tide, unfortunately. And while I'm sure that could have happened with Cornyn, I figured there was enough stuff in the background that Trump would likely not vote that way unless there was some sort of negotiation underway that would have called him to do that. And so Paxton, by the way, this is I think he kind of expected it the whole time as well. I mean, Paxton consistently I guess both Paxton and Cornan did. I I will say that that Paxton kind of talked about how, you know, oh well, I'm the MAGA warrior. I think he kind of called himself that, said, you know, I've been I I back Trump on every major thing here, here, and here. I've always been pro. I think Cornyn kind of tried to pretend that was the case, but everybody knew it wasn't. Everybody knew that that Cornyn and Trump did not get along until like one year ago. And that was only because we know that Cornyn was up for re-election. That was it. That was the only reason. And so um, of course, one of the big things that kind of drove this decision was eliminating the filibuster, passing the SAVE Act as, by the way, uh something that back when Trump originally announced that he would be making an endorsement soon. Because again, the thing that I think a lot of us were frustrated with when that all went down, at least I was, was that it was not a normal endorsement. I have no problem if you want to come out and endorse people. That's your prerogative.

The Danger Of Kingmaker Politics

SPEAKER_18

I don't do that because I think people are able to think through that themselves. And I that's just not how I roll. But a lot of people do. And that's fine. If you want to do that, do that. But the way that Trump did it, in basically and essentially calling for whoever he did not endorse to drop out of the race, I think was incredibly frustrating. Because if that were to have been what had happened, that would have resulted in the people not getting a choice at all. And regardless, right, if we win, if it's for us, if you know, if if if somebody, you know, really wants Paxton in and he he endorses Paxton, well they could say, well, that's really good. And if he picks Cornyn, well, that's really bad. But regardless of who he picked, it's still really bad. The precedent that that sets, that the president can set the precedent of coming in and essentially picking the nominee uh for a righty of elections, that's not a good that is not a good precedent to have in general. That is a very bad uh precedent in terms of the fact that we are a constitutional republic. That'll be very that is very dangerous for the continued functioning of civil of civic participation in our elections. And so I said that back at the time. I said it is not a good idea, it's very dangerous, not not what we want to see out of an endorsement in general. And I said that even if he did what I thought he would do, which was endorse Pakistan, even then, I said if if the goal is that the other person drops out and people don't get the choice anymore. I'm not interested in that. That's not something that I think the president should be able to do. And so that doesn't appear to be the case, by the way. It does not appear I've not heard anything about Cornyn dropping out, especially this far in. I've not heard anything about anything like that. It appears to be that it's just an endorsement. But again, back when Trump had originally posted all of this and had said that the other should should be responsible essentially and drop out of the race, I remember that John Cornyn basically ignored it, right, because he would never do that. And Paxton essentially was trying to kind of understand the situation. And I think he kind of came out and he kind of made it clear that, you know, uh if if this if if Republicans will act on the Save America Act, if if we'll do the things that Trump has called us to do, if we'll do the things that people demand that we do, uh that is our moral responsibility in the modern age, then I'll reconsider my bid for Senate. If you can get those things done, then maybe you can you can keep the job and I won't even run. And he said that on on social media. And then a lot of people yet again are reminded of who Paxton was as a leader, as someone in a position of elected authority. Because that's long time been who Paxton is. And so, you know, I I I will say we don't know what goes on behind the closed doors of politics. And and to be honest, I'm not sure that we want to. I think there are a lot of things that are going on behind closed doors that we want absolutely nothing to do with. But you know, you find out yesterday Corning came out, I guess Monday. Monday, Corning came out and he said that he thinks the ship has sailed for him to earn the Trump endorsement. Whether that means he didn't know anything at all and just assumed that early voting had already started and so it's kind of too late for an endorsement, or if he already knew, hey, he's gonna pick Paxton tomorrow. I have no idea. And again, uh Trump, I think, actually did try to do a fairly a fairly fine job of of his attack on Cornet, which is technically what this is. I think it was it was plenty fair. And so, of course, Pax came out in in celebration. He said, I am incredibly honored to have President Trump's complete and total endorsement. No one has fought harder for the American people than President Trump, and I look forward to championing his America first agenda in the Senate. I have consistently stood by President Trump, but even when the Washington establishment and career politicians, like John Cornyn, turned their back on the president. Now, I look forward to winning this critical Senate seat and delivering victory after victory for the people of Texas. And so, of course, Cornyn also responded by pointing his history with Trump and saying that, oh, you guys should focus on electability in November. We got to go up against, you know, James Tallerico, you better hope, you better vote for me, because Paxton could never beat that guy. And so he wrote on social media I've worked closely with President Trump through both of his presidential terms and voted with him more than 99% of the time. He has consistently called me a friend in this race. Yeah, but he didn't endorse you. Which means that that's all irrelevant. I stood with Trump, and you've also not stood with Trump. That doesn't matter. Trump is probably well more aware than any of us who has been his supporter, who's been in his corner, who he had to basically bully to get there. You may have voted with him, but what did he what did he have to do to get you to vote with him? We don't know. We don't know what happens in those meetings. He does, and he didn't choose you, which I think should tell everybody a little something about John Cornyn. Nevertheless, um, that

Early Voting Advice And Vetting Candidates

SPEAKER_18

also triggered additional support for Paxton. You also had Wesley Hunt, who endorsed Paxton. And so, again, as a reminder, as a reminder, you can if you've not yet voted, today is another day to go vote in the runoffs early. Today, tomorrow, and Friday. You gotta make it out one of those three days. And if you do not, first of all, Michael will be very disappointed in you. I'm speaking of myself in the third person. Patriot Talk 920 will be very disappointed in you. But if you don't make it out any of the next three days, there will also be election day, and that is Tuesday, May 26th. That is this upcoming Tuesday. Six days away, because it is you know May 20th. So if you're not able to get out today, tomorrow, or Friday, you do still have time to get out next Tuesday for the actual election day. But I always prefer early voting. I know there are people that say that they're a little conspiratorial, and that's fine. Teach their due. If you think that early voting isn't safe and that that the safest is election day, what have you, feel free to wait and do that. I always recommend because I think that it's probably just fine. I always recommend early voting just because I think that you have more availability if something does go wrong, you know, like even just you you end up having to get something done that day around the house. And it goes terribly wrong and you have to do something, you get called into work, whatever it is. And then by the end of the day, uh the polls close at 7 at 6.30, and then you get an offender bender, right? You just never know. And so I always recommend you give yourself a couple days. That if something does go wrong today, you could still try again tomorrow. So again, that's early voting. And and it's not just it depends on your area what exactly you'll have in your particular runoff if you live in Harris County, even certain precincts in Harris County to look different than if you live in Brizouria County, and Fort Bend County, and Montgomery County, and Galvison County. So wherever you and each city might have their own. So wherever you do live, make sure that you're you're doing the research beforehand, right? And and all of our listeners are very bright people. Uh you know how to find all the stuff, you can you can get the information and you can look and say, hey, who is who who's on the ballot for my particular area? And which of these people is conservative? Which of these people is gonna fight for faith, for family, and for freedom? Which of these people is going to fight uh for the truth, regardless of where that takes them, even if that gets them in a little bit of trouble sometimes, by the way, it will, that you pick the person who's actually going to fight for what's right. And that's not always easy to pick. And sometimes, you know, I've had plenty of elections where even with all the data, all the campaigns, and all the prior votes, sometimes two people you look at and you just say, Man, they're really neck and neck in policy beliefs. They they are they are almost even by every available metric. Even look at some of the scores from some of the conservative think ticks. One's got like a 97, one's got a 98. And you're like, do I go with the 98? Because it's technically one point higher. Does that really even matter? I've had that happen. And maybe there's people in your area, but a lot of the time, you can tell who's conservative. You can tell who's conservative and who's maybe a Republican, who's maybe a rhino, who's maybe a Democrat running on a Republican platform. And so make sure you're voting for people that are gonna fight for your rights, that are gonna champion the truth. And again, we don't offer endorsement. So I'm not gonna say who that is at this race, but I will I will consistently say that I think I think Paxton has done a phenomenal job in his role as attorney general. I think that if you look at his campaign, I mean, and I've said this every day we are reporting on something else that Paxton has done. Literally, later in the show, we have a story where Paxton has secured another settlement with the grocery store chain over their use of pesticides, important for the health of the American people. So while this campaign's ongoing, while he's running in a runoff, while early voting is going on, his office is still consistently doing everything that it needs to do. And um, I think it's very important that we understand when we go to make these sorts of decisions because they're very important decisions. Who we're voting for, why we're voting for them. Now, with that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna talk a little bit about Fort Ben ISD, specifically their usage of AI, pretty wild, and timer bending. Well, also I I I I remember I saw a post the other day um about Kent Baxton because people are kind of upset that his office allowed a um child abuser to get only 30 to 60 days behind bars. And it's not the story, it's not exactly what the media is trying to have you believe that it is. We'll talk about all that when we get back. A few days to text into the show. Number, as always, is 713-779-5978. One more time. That is 713-779-KYST. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. And Lord willing, I'll be right back after this short break, so hang tight, and we'll talk soon.

If you are of Medicare age or getting close or you have a loved one that is, be careful with those unsolicited phone calls that I know you know about. We get told about them all the time. What you need to know is that many of those phone calls are not even legal. They're coming from offshore call centers. Sometimes they're calling regardless of whether you're on the do not call list. Isn't that nice of them, by the way? It's really sweet of them to just do that because they are thinking that they can't get caught. Bottom line is when you get on there and you talk to them, they're already kind of operating sidelong of what should be done. And sometimes people end up in plans that they did not intend to enroll in. And so what do you do? Call somebody local. If you got a local agent, my gosh, call them and get in front of them. And if you don't have a good agent, think of an organization like Senior Health Services where you can sit down, talk about what you're looking for, and get the help that you need. You don't need to be talking to phone operators in other countries that you don't know who they are, where they are, or what in the world they're doing.

Welcome

The Paxton Headline That Misleads

SPEAKER_18

back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Now, this is uh kind of the tagline from this sort of story that kind of came out about Paxton a little while ago. It says Republican attorney Adam Hoffman sexually abused a young boy for years. Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton gave him a 60-day sentence. Now, if you heard that, you'd think to yourself, probably what most people would think is, wow, what in the world? Behind closed doors, is Paxton actually like defending? I I saw plenty of comments from so-called conservatives that I guess I guess Paxton is in on the Epstein stuff, huh? Right? All these comments uh that are just absolutely insane for people that did no research. And this is part of the problem with technology progressing so quickly. While it's positive for a lot of people that know how to use it as a beneficial tool, so many people are using it as the methodology of truth. Where they they look anything up, and if the first website they click on says it's true, they believe it. They don't dig into it, they don't read the details, the excerpts, the court docs, nothing. They don't read anything. And so I'll I'll give you a little background on this case because you wouldn't know this unless you were really to do research. Again, uh this is coming out and this guy he posted it, he said a child was sexually abused for three years. Paxton's office offered the abuser 30 days in jail and no sex offender registry. The judge said no, twice. That's who wants to be the the Texas's next U.S. senator. Right. Well, here's the problem with all of this. As it turns out, Paxton's office assigned a 30-year trial lawyer to that case. So, well, yes, and I'm not trying to denote any sort of responsibility away from Paxton. I want to be clear, Paxton did not himself handle this particular case. Nevertheless, the defendant's lawyer, that would be the lawyer for the alleged child abuser, um, just absolutely destroyed the young victim up on the stand, which they will do. Uh they embarrassed him, he felt mortified, he felt attacked, violated up on that stand, re-victimized for what he went through. Right. And and by the way, they'll do this all the time. And so um they they got him to admit to some exaggerations, some falsehoods, so he changed his name, he or he changed his story once because he just berated him so hard. Stuff that will happen because, again, these are children. And of course you'd expect that stuff like this is is going to happen when you're being berated by a lawyer. Nevertheless, as a result, five of the jurors in that case refused to convict, which resulted in a mistrial, which is which is what happens. And so when the prosecutor came out, and the prosecutor told the family that she wanted to retry the case. She said, No, we can win this. We can do it. We got a mistrial, but that gives us another opportunity. We can rehash this and do it again, we can do better. Um essentially, they told her they weren't willing to put their son through that again. They said it's not worth it. We might win, we might lose, but at the end of the day, our son feels worse than he did before this trial. And if the point is to give him justice, this isn't doing it. And so uh she even mentioned that she would be willing to subpoena the boy, which would require, you know, that he be forced to be put up on the stand rather than than, you know, he'd be forced to testify essentially. Um but but the problem is that without any physical evidence and and this frightened child now no longer giving any testimony at all, there the case really couldn't go anywhere. It was kind of the end. And so this 30-year trial lawyer, after all this stuff happens and she realizes, okay, there's literally nothing I can do. There is nothing. We don't have the evidence. The the the parents are saying no. I probably can't even get a subpoena. I I don't know how anything's gonna work. There is no trial, there is no conviction. He's gonna walk away scot-free. She then went in, discussed with the defendant, uh, made up, you know, some sort of argument for where things could go if he didn't take this deal, and offered him a deal of 30 days behind bars. Better than literally what anyone expected, considering if you again if you read the actual full case, you'd expect no time behind bars. Again, no evidence, no more testimony, and she still got it to 30 days, and the judge doubled it to 60. So we still got a month to two months in jail for somebody that that literally didn't even get found guilty. I mean, it it and then for people to come out and use that as a story about how bad Ken Paxson is. Does that make any sense to anybody? And that's the way the media plays games. That's why I'm very cautious on this show in the way that I represent things. Even people that maybe I don't like, people that I'm not friends with, people that I think are terrible. I'm still very cautious in the way I represent things. I don't ever want to be that person that says child abuser. Pax that gave him 30 days. That's who wants to be your next senator. No. And it doesn't matter if it's Cornyn, it doesn't matter if it's Kamala Harris, it doesn't matter if it's Barack Obama or Joe Biden or Gavin Newsom or James Tallerico speaking of this race. We have to keep ourselves honest. We have to be men and women of integrity. We have to be be people of good character. That is more important to me than than any sort of narrative we'd like to we'd like to be able to push. And I get it, it'd be great to come out and say that, oh, James Talarico has done this thing. But if he hasn't done it, we don't get to say it. And so that teaches us one to have integrity, and two, please be be very careful with what you read. Because again, if you just read the headline and you didn't really dive into the specifics of the case, you probably never would have known. You probably never would have any idea, and you might even buy it and say, that's crazy, but wow, I guess it happens. I guess nobody's perfect. Maybe he really is a defender, maybe there's his friend, right? You'd think those things. Now I had mentioned that that technology is getting a little bit out of hand, right? That it we're getting to a point where people, instead of using technology as a sort of tool, I think sometimes it gets turned into more than that. And I've said for a long time, you know, while I think that AI has many positive uses, I think that computers have many positive uses, I think the the technological progress that we have in the country have many positive uses. There are many dangers that come with those positive uses. Mainly, I think the biggest one now isn't even a lot of the misconduct that's happening online. I think a lot of it is that people are throwing away their autonomy. And what I mean by that is that people are throwing away their ability to think, their ability to research, their ability to learn. They don't care about learning anymore. How many kids are using AI to pass their college classes? How many kids are using AI to write their papers? How many kids are using AI? I I had somebody the other day. I was debating them on social media. We were having a back and forth on I don't even remember what. I just remember that that I got a reply that was so very obviously written in its entirety by AI. I wasn't, and I replied to him, I said, I'm not debating a computer. If you don't want to debate me, that's fine, but I'm not. I'm not debating your AI model. I'm not doing it. It's ridiculous. People are losing very quickly in real time their ability to think. And so we'll make it back to kind of tie

Fort Bend ISD Uses AI Names

SPEAKER_18

that all in. Uh, we'll talk about Fort Bend ISD. We're talking about it this segment, but we got into Paxton. Fort Bend ISD is going to be using an AI name reader at this year's graduation ceremonies. Uh they're introducing this new technology, making this moment supposedly more accurate and more personal. So talking about that and how it ties into what we're talking about with technological progress and the need for doing our own thinking and our own research when we get back. Text in at 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and I'll be right back to talk about AI after the break.

So as graduation season kind of kicks off for a lot of people, by the way, the Fort Bend Independent School District says it is introducing new technology aimed at making one of the biggest moments of a student's academic career more accurate and more personal. The district announced this year's graduation ceremonies will incorporate a name pronunciation platform designed to help ensure that students' names are announced correctly as they walk across the stage, because that's been an issue, especially when you get an American names walking across the stage. Yeah, I I've never met a red-blooded American whose family has very clearly been here a long time, whose name was really very hard to pronounce. I mean, maybe I think the worst, I think I think the hardest one maybe would be Seamus. If if if it's your first time seeing S-E-A-M-U-S, you may not know that's pronounced Seamus. Other than that, American names are actually quite easy in our dialect. So this is obviously for the people among us who are not, you know, long-term Americans. We'll we'll say it that way. Nevertheless, they say that the platform allows graduating seniors to record the pronunciation of their own names during the ceremony. The system then automates the name-calling process using that pronunciation, which is pretty cool. District leaders say the move reflects the district's diversity. You know, I just I sometimes you can just feel it in your bones. I knew that was why. I mean, it's not hard to guess. That's not doesn't make me some sort of genius. It was obvious. But you had to know they were gonna say that. This has nothing to do with America. This is nothing No, no, again, no real American needs help pronouncing another real American's name. I'm sorry. That there are may I mean, again, maybe there are a handful of existent names, and I can't even think of them, that are American that are tough to pronounce. American names are significantly easy to I mean, they just are. They're not difficult to come and read and say, ah, man, I don't know how to pronounce the name James. I just can't James? No, it's not hard. Okay. What Michael Wilson, how does that how do you read that name? I don't know. Who knows, really? They're easy. Every single one of them. And so this is obviously a diversity-based platform. Uh I don't know, I'm sorry. Your name is like eight names long and has letters that aren't supposed to go next to each other in it. I I can't pronounce that, so I guess we need AI to do it. And so the district spokesman said, as one of the most diverse school districts in the nation, Fort Bend ISD is committed to ensuring every student feels respected, valued, and recognized with dignity. Correctly pronouncing a student's name is an important part of honoring their identity and celebrating their achievements alongside family, friends, and classmates. And so, again, apparently in Fort Bend ISD alone, there are more than 100 languages and dialects spoken in that community, which is, by the way, absolutely insane. And so they say that this sort of technology is becoming more common at colleges, universities, across the U.S. Uh Vendors Report, more K 12 districts are beginning to adopt similar systems for high school graduations as well, just because there's so much diversity that no longer can the people in charge of our school districts even read the names of their students. Do you know how bad that is? I I'm sorry. And I know this is gonna make me sound like a crazed up racist, which whatever, who cares? The reality is this is this is just bad. This is not good. If and I've said this for a long time, we talked about assimilation, right? You know assimilation originally people would change their names to become American. They they they would have they would Americanize their names. You know why that is? You know why they did that? Because they wanted to be ultimately one day American. And they knew that it would take generations, it would require uh mass attempts at assimilation, working normal jobs, acting normally, learning to speak the language, changing your name. It required a vast change. And even then, you expect to I'm not really a full American it'll be my kids, my grandkids, maybe my great grandkids that'll be real Americans. Because it it i it it's not just that you come on and you're you're you're standing in Texas, now you're an American. No. No, no. America, a lot of it is a culture, it is a shared heritage, a shared people, a shared history, and you have to participate in that a while to become one. And it's interesting because as I said before, first of all, the melting pot, that whole line is a lie that came out of the 1960s. We were never supposed to be a melting pot. But even if we were, this is like a melting pot that isn't melting. I mean, that's that's the the plainest and simplest way to put it. We have a lot of people here who have names that we can't pronounce and they don't care, and they want AI to read it off because they deserve dignity. No, no, they don't. They deserve to change their name and become American if they want to be here. Or go home. Those are your options. You can't say go home, that's racist. Again, I don't care. I I I I don't think anybody should care anymore about about these insulting terms that are thrown around for the express purpose of bullying you into not saying what is very obviously true and right in front of you. I don't want AI to have to read names at graduation because there are people who won't change them and whose name you literally can't pronounce without sounding like you're summoning a demon. That's not what I want in America. That's that's not what I want. I want us to have a shared language, a shared people, a shared heritage, and a shared culture. And that will mean changing the way we do immigration, that will, whatever, whatever that takes. But we should not have to have AI read off names at a graduation, regardless of how cool the tech is. And by the way, that's my position on a lot of stuff that's coming with AI. Oh, that's so cool. Also, not what I want. Right? A lot of these things. There are a lot of ways that AI is being used as a tool. I think I've talked about this before. You know that all the dogs that we have, all the domesticated dogs, I have a German Shepherd, but all the dogs that we have, they came ultimately from wolves, right? They were ultimately bred from wolves. How do you think that wolves got domesticated? Do you think one day they decided to walk into the you know the palace and sit down? Good boy. No, no, that's not what happened. Over time, wolves, very independent and capable creatures, were thrown scraps from leftovers, were throwing some food here, some food there from camps, and eventually, before you know it, every night they were being given a whole thing of food. And then one day, after years and years and their kids being fed and their grandkids being fed, wouldn't you know it? Turns out they didn't know how to hunt anymore for food. At least not those ones. And so that that was the process by which they were domesticated. They stopped big they stopped being self-sufficient, they stopped being able to do the things they needed to do for their own survival, and it resulted in, and it's not bad. I love dogs. I have a dog. I think dogs are basically the coolest pet ever. There's I mean, it's just fat, it's just so awesome. They're man's best friend for a reason. But the reality is they were domesticated through that process. That's what technology is doing to us as people. We are being domesticated. We are being thrown food, and by food I mean the ability to not have to think for ourselves. And one day, before you know it, we are gonna look like the fat people on in the WALLE movie. Did if you ever notice if you ever saw WALLE, if you haven't seen it, go look up a picture of these fat people that are just constantly on a screen sipping juice. That's what we're turning into. Because we're we're just like the wolves, we're being domesticated by being given these things that are not actually good for us, that don't actually benefit us in any way, and we're losing our ability to be independent critical thinkers. Nevertheless, it's really important that we have it so that we can read people's names who aren't really American, though. With that being said, to wrap up the show the the first hour of the morning show, when we get back, we'll cover the weather, kind of go into what we have going on today. By the way, the answer to a lot of this is warm, muggy rain is gonna be the answer to a lot of your weather questions. We'll talk about it to wrap up the first hour of the show when we get back. Houston Storms And Memorial Day Rain

SPEAKER_18

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You are listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Today is going to bring Houston another round of storms as a soggy Memorial Day weekend is kind of shaping up to take place. The third of multiple waves of stormy weather expected to push off the upper Texas Gulf Coat Coast late this morning. Now, while much of today should turn drier, especially through the afternoon, repeated rounds of storms tomorrow through the weekend could again lead to isolated flooding. Now, forecast model guidance continues to suggest that the morning hours of today are likely to be the wettest of the day. After two thunderstorm complexes pushed through Southeast Texas, the first of which arrived yesterday morning, and then most recently yesterday evening, the third round is going to bring mainly light to moderate rain with occasionally embedded thunder. Similar to yesterday morning, commuters should expect wet roads and, of course, prepare for slower and more cautious traffic. By this afternoon, the weather should improve, as mostly to partly cloudy skies return. Temperatures are going to drop out in the mid-80s, with humidity-driven heat adhesive values, of course, putting the Fields like temperatures in the in the lower 90s. Now, this week's flood risk is going to peak tomorrow as we have that surge coming in. For like locations similar to College Station, Huntsville, they're going to be in a level two out of four risk. Closer to Houston, it's down to one out of four flood risk, but that's still a risk. It's still on the list of you should be cautious. And so tomorrow's heaviest rainfall is going to occur during leftover atmospheric boundaries. They're kind of saying that'll be found closer to the Rise River Valley, but we're going to get a lot of that. Nevertheless, we're still trying to pinpoint Memorial Day. You should probably plan for there to be rain. It looks like there might be some thunder. It doesn't look like you might necessarily need to cancel any of your outdoor plans, but you might be at the time to consider having a backup just in case. That's kind of where we're at. With that being said, at the top of the next hour, we're going to have Daniel Greer from Texas Scorecard coming on, talking all about the lottery, all about what's going on with the former lottery director, Gary Gree. If you won't want to miss it, text in 713-779-5978. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You are listening to Lone Star Conservative. We'll be right back at the top of the next hour.

SPEAKER_08

From deep in the heart of Texas, it's Houston's God-loving patriot and the voice of reason. This is the Lone Star Conservative, Michael Wilson.

Guest Cancellation And Paxton Settlement

SPEAKER_18

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Unfortunately, we're going to have to reschedule the Texas scorecard interview for another time. We'll keep you guys updated whenever we're going to have that. However, in the meantime, we do have plenty of I I promise you, I I always say this. I'm sure that a lot of people that do prep for doing these sorts of shows, I'm sure for a lot of people, you know, they they I don't want to say they do the bare minimum. I don't want to I don't wanna, you know, be rude to anybody. I don't wanna I don't wanna do that. But I'm sure that a lot of people that do any sort of prep at all for anything, by the way. This is not just this is not just for a radio show. Uh, this is for anything. And I know this because when I was doing a podcast, I had friends, and I say friends lightly, uh, who also did a podcast, and I looked at their show prep and I realized that we did not do show prep the same. I realized that uh they said that I was I was going overboard with my show prep, which maybe is true, but I'd rather go overboard, I think, is is what I've always discovered. And so any time that you know, I I I've had before, I remember that I lost uh a guest that just wasn't able to come on. And I remember someone reached out and said, Hey, do you need any help? Do you have plenty of stuff? I said, buddy, I got plenty of stuff if I accidentally had to go an extra hour and had no guests. I I yes, I have enough stuff. And if I don't, I'm really good at finding more stuff if I absolutely had to. So we're good to go. And we'll actually talk about this segment, uh this settlement. I was kind of talking earlier about how while he's still doing the campaign, while he's in a runoff, his office is still fighting every single day in terms of settlements, lawsuits, investigations. The Office of the Attorney General is still very much doing a lot of hard work. And I think, by the way, that that also speaks, I think, of of the candidate. And again, we don't, again, I want to be very clear. We don't offer endorsements here on the show. That's not our intent. We don't want to tell you, here's who you should vote for, here's Michael Wilson's recommended list of a of I don't want to do that. I don't want to be that kind of person. I want I want the people who listen to my show to walk away with the ability to critically think, with the ability to be, but not just the ability, but to be informed, to know why they're making the decisions they're making, and then to make those decisions. That's what I want. I don't want listeners who just listen to be entertained and get told what to do. That's I have no interest in producing that. I I that's not what I want out of this show. I want to produce more critical thinking. I want to produce more research. I want to produce more information, and then people be able to take that and and do their own with it. And so again, while we don't endorse, there also is a reality that you're able to look at kind of what's going on and make those sorts of decisions. And one of those is in the Senate race, right? You can look at the differences between the current attorney general and between Senator John Cornyn. And just to highlight this, let's let's talk about this story uh that came out. It's I don't want to say funny, but it's while again, while all of this stuff is going on, while you have a Senate runoff, a massive mess in that regard, you know, Republicans going after each other, all this sort of stuff. At the same time you have that, you still have the opposite of Attorney General having so much that it has to get done. Between again, and it's not just lawsuits even in the in in the state of Texas. Sometimes it's lawsuits of people of doctors or of governments or of whatever in other states. So we're having all this stuff going on, and so now Texas has reached a settlement with grocery store company Albertson's Safeway LLC to stop the practice of spraying produce labeled organic with a synthetic pesticide. Which, by the way, should have been fraud from the beginning. I just want to be clear. Part of the reason, and I I actually have said that I think buying organic today, these days, is mostly a sham. Stories like this are per are are at least part of why. When you buy organic, you're essentially spending more money for basically nothing. I know they want to convince you that organic means that your stuff was grown better and it was taken more care of and it's healthier. It's not true. The the standards put in place on organic are so non-enforced and non-existent nowadays, you're basically throwing money away by buying organic. At that point, you're just better off going and buying from somebody you know. I mean, there and they're by the way, living in Texas is actually a massive blessing. All around Houston, there's lots of people that have family farms and and family ranches and family gardens that will happily sell you everything from eggs to milk, raw milk, by the way, to to meat to vegetables and fruits. If you want that stuff that's been avoiding the pesticides and the mRNA and all that sort of stuff, just go out of town a little bit and you'll find it. But if you're buying organic, unless it is, you know, gives you the ability to sleep at night, you just you just like thinking that you're eating healthier, you like feeling like you're not ingesting, you know, weed killer. It's not true. Okay, it it just is not. You're you're throwing money in the garbage can. Nevertheless, Attorney General Ken Facton secured this new settlement following a statewide investigation into grocery stores over concerns that grocers were using pesticides without consumer knowledge on produce that is labeled USDA organic. Which I'm not gonna say they were, because that was the point of the settlement that they don't have to admit guilt, right? That's often how it goes. Nevertheless, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines, produce treated with produce max can only be certified USDA organic if the amount of chlorine present is below four parts per million, or if it undergoes a water rinse before consumption. Which, by the way, just just a quick note, just so people are aware, a water rinse does nothing. I want to be I want to be totally up front. I know that you know you might have grown up hearing, make sure you rinse your fruit off, make sure you win the grapes under the water. That's why you put them in the container that has the holes in it. Turns out, totally a lie. That that, yes, the water will rinse off any obvious residue. Yeah, if it's like actually dirty because people were touching it in the store or there's a bug on it, you might rinse those things off. But if you're concerned about the bacteria, specifically the bacteria from a lot of the stuff like the pesticides and and all the other stuff that it gets treated with, if that's what you're concerned about, that's still there. I somebody did one of these tests where they ran it underwater and they said, Okay, so it's clean, right? We ran it underwater for this long. Now watch this. And then they use this special type of vinegar treatment, and you just see the amount of gook. I'll think is the is the best word, gook, that comes out, that comes off of these grapes. And so it really is um oh, this is a very funny text. This is a very, this is a very funny text that says, Good morning, Michael. Uranium is organic too. Yeah, organic is such a cope word to convince people that they should spend twice the amount of money on the exact same product. That's that's literally all that it is. The standards are so garbage. Oh, well, you have to use only some pesticide and then or you can just wash it off with stuff that doesn't get pesticide off. It's like if I'm selling motorcycles and I say, one of the qualifications if you want to sell at my dealership is the motorcycle has to run. It actually has to drive. And you're like, okay, and then you push it down a hill, and I see it go, and I'm like, okay, we're good. No, it's not actually driving. No, the motorcycle does not start. That yeah, you butchered it. That's kind of what's going on with the organic guidelines. Nevertheless, Paxton's announcement read consumers paying premium prices for organic products reasonably expect those items to be free from these type of synthetic chemical treatments. Many consumers were unaware that despite the certified organic label, pesticides had been used. Albert said Safeway LLC now assures that within 90 days it will cease misting any synthetic pesticide on organic produce sold in the state of Texas. It will also update its internal policies and procedures to include the completion of a water rinse on all organic produce after crisping it with produce max. Paxton called the settlement a huge win for Texans seeking to avoid synthetic pesticides when purchasing organic produce. He said, I commend Albert Since for reversing its course of action and signing this historic agreement to help ensure transparency for Texans by requiring its stores to stop the missing of pesticides on organic produce. I will continue to use every tool available to help make America healthy again. And by the way, on top of this settlement, he also came out and he praised uh HEB, Whole Foods, and Natural Grocers for their their practice of not treating organic produce with antimicro antimicrobial pesticides. And they encouraged uh Sprout Farmers Market to also follow that example. HEB is where I do most of my shopping. And by the way, before I hear the outcries, oh Michael, you know HEB stood for this and stood for that politically. I would encourage you to find me a grocery store that carries the stuff that you need at a reasonable price. That's the that's the issue. At a reasonable price that doesn't have woke policies or didn't stand up for woke agenda. You can't do it. You you look at Kroger, you look at Walmart, you look at Target, you look at you look at Sprouts, you look at Whole Foods. I mean good luck finding a grocery store chain that is not in one way or another somehow um woke in its in its policies and in its guidelines. You won't find it. And so you gotta make a compromise in that regard. I think HEB is the best way to do that. While they've had woke things they've championed, I think they've also done a lot of good. Right in in terms of one, they're based in Texas, so I'm getting my money back to Texans, where they get their produce from in terms of farmers, a lot of it coming from, if not all of it coming from Texas farmers. You also keep in mind that HB has done a lot of good during natural disasters. So, you know, there's there's a level of of you know we have to pick. And I will be completely honest when I say the the best alternative, and if you have the money to do this, you certainly should is to find people that are selling this out of their own place. You know, when you find farmers and people, even not just farmers, I mean m you know, people who just have a small backyard garden. Even a small garden will often produce more than a single person or a single family can eat. You'd be surprised at not how easy it is, but once you do get the hang of growing your own your own stuff, how much it produces, a single tree produces enough to last three or four families. So if you know somebody that has some sort of fruit tree or they grow stuff, talk about, hey, I'll even pay you for some of this. Um I I would love to purchase stuff from you. There's plenty of places you can go to to buy eggs. There's plenty of places you can go to buy milk that's not treated, um, all that sort of stuff. That's that's option number one. But if you can't afford that and you're looking to go to a grocery store, I I personally recommend HEB. We got a text in. It says, quote, we will, however, continue spraying pesticides on poor people's food. That is exactly what they're doing, by the way. And it's so funny because you know that things like Medicare and the stuff that's not not for the elderly, but the people just normal people, the programs are all set up to benefit one another. When you look at food stamps and all this stuff, it's designed to create unhealthy people who then rely on big pharma and big medicine for treatment. Obesity is at an all-time high. You wonder why. Well, it's because, over and over and over again, that's what's successful for the big companies. And it doesn't, it shouldn't come as much of a surprise at all uh when you learn at the way they're treating food. I I was talking about McDonald's, I think, on the show a few weeks ago. I saw this years ago. It's still the case as far as I'm aware. I if I get fact-checked on this and somebody says that's not happening anymore, I would love to be wrong. This is one of those cases. If somebody does the research and they say, hey Michael, it turns out they're not doing that anymore, great. But the last I checked, McDonald's used pesticides on all their potatoes that they grow, all their potatoes that they grow for their french fries. And the pesticides they use and the amount they use them, when they're picked, the the the families that grow these, the big farms, they wear hazmat suits to go pick the potatoes. And then they have to store them for an elongated period of time for them to be even safe to ship and to and to be in open air at a restaurant. It has to take time for them to be safe for that sort of that sort of consumption. On top of that, the families that grow the potatoes for McDonald's don't eat their own produce. They have a separate greenhouse for their food. For their potatoes. They're grown separately that aren't sprayed with this stuff because they know how bad it is. And so all of the people that that don't have money and that are, you know, eating fast food and and they're they're eating the cheap stuff, all that stuff is still being treated terribly. It's going to make you unhealthy, it's likely to make you obese, it's likely to deteriorate your health very quickly. And you have to wonder, you know, they've they talked all this talk about the stuff that's really dangerous. Oh, cigarettes and this and that. And I'm not saying that cigarettes are good for you. They're not. You should not smoke cigarettes. But you have to wonder when your great-grandfather, who smoked a cigarette, you know, and lived to the age of 90, pretty healthy, and you compare that to the people today that are in their 40s that are 300 pounds and have heart issues and cardiac issues and everything else, you have to wonder maybe it was better if if we just fixed the food epidemic. That's why I've been such a fan of the Make America Healthy Again movement. Because that is one of the biggest issues we're facing. Because of course, the goal of control is to produce a population that is incapable of standing up and rebelling. And the number one way to do that is to make really unhealthy people. Unhealthy physically, unhealthy spiritually, and unhealthy meant and unhealthy mentally. They do that through the school system, they do that through the food, they do that through the medicine, and so on and so forth. And so, in general, I recommend as much as is possible, try to get things that are grown healthily, as much as is possible. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over because Harris County is now saying that they want to improve ankle monitoring after you had multiple defendants who cut them off, bond issues, bail issues, all about it in the next segment. If you would like to text in as well, the number is 713 779 5978. One more time. That is 713 779 KYST. You are listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and Lord willing, I'll return right after this break to talk all about R. Issues with our criminal justice system.

Ankle Monitors, Bail, And Public Safety

SPEAKER_18

About 24 hours after we revealed a second Harris County murder defendant who has been accused of cutting off his ankle monitor just before his trial, preaching to Commissioner Adrian Garcia now says he plans plans to bring a plan to Commissioner's Court to strengthen the county's electronic monitoring program. Garcia, the former sheriff, said the two recent examples show the monitors are effective at informing authorities of a potential escape, but making sure that this technology can work to its fullest capability has always been a concern to b bolster public safety. The most recent example is Walter Pozos, a murder defendant scheduled to start a retrial last week, but he didn't show up after allegedly cutting off his ankle monitoring just two days before the start of that trial. The other recent example you might remember, Lee Gilly, the capital murder defendant accused of killing his pregnant wife before using a fake name for its travel documents, cutting off his ankle monitor to travel to Milan, Italy, where he's still at. They're trying to get him extradited, but he's saying that he fears for the death penalty and all these sort of things that are resulting in Italy having not sent him back yet. And so the Commissioner, here's the statement. Ankle monitor technology is one of those used, and recent stories of two first-time defendants cutting their monitors shows that these devices can be effective in informing authorities of a potential escape. Making sure that this technology can work to its fullest capability has always been a concern of mine developed to public safety. I will be bringing to Commissioner's Court a plan to further strengthen the county's electronic monitoring program, specifically when it involves violent offenders. Pretrial service has been effective at surveilling people with these devices, and since 2023, new laws have been in place to allow the district attorney to file additional charges over 200 times when tampering has occurred. But I know we can still do more to ensure compliance and accountability, especially from violent defenders. Now one of the things I think is really important to highlight is the way that's stated, like it's kind of positive. Well, because of new laws, we're now allowed to really prosecute. And so we've been able to prosecute over 200 times people who have abused. When you have hundreds of violations since 2023, in just three years, you have hundreds of violations. You have to wonder the program, the the the the way that we're treating this does not seem to be successful at all. Even if you can further prosecute them and maybe get them back, that I think highlights the need for a better system in general, not just slightly better tech on an ankle. I think it demands that we are more cautious with the way that we treat these sorts of issues. And the reality is it creates a public safety crisis, which is yet another reason you should become a member of our sponsor, Gun Owners of America. Gun Owners of America understands the reality that the Second Amendment was designed to protect you from a variety of threats. It was designed to hold the government accountable. It was also designed for your right to self-defense, to stand your ground and to be safe. And so Gun of America does that, of course, in a variety of ways. They do that by campaigning for good candidates for office who, once they get in, will actually be able to defend and support your rights. They do that by lobbying inside legislative sessions, which is not as simple as on the day of just coming up and saying, hey, vote for this. It means years. As soon as the last legislative session was over, they were already researching the next one to prepare for what bills could come up, how they're going to deal with them, how they're going to handle them, who's going to be campaigned for, all those sorts of things. They also do lawsuits against government actions that are tyrannical and so much more. You can go to goahhouston.com and become a member. That is goahhouston.com. It's a $25 annual membership, just $25 per year, which goes right back to the defense of your Second Amendment rights. Again, that is G-O-Ahouston.com. With that being said, when we get back from the break, we're going to jump over and we're going to talk with Mark Palmer from Friends of First Responders. Uh, kind of one of the big sponsors, one of the big new sponsors of our first responder of the week segment, alongside uh Bellfor. And of course, alongside our other sponsor, 1-800BoardUp. If you'd like to text in, the number is 713-779-5978. That's 713-779-KYST. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You are listening to the Lone Star Conservative. In order to be going to be right back with Mark Palmer to talk all about Friends of First Responders in our new segment after this short break. Hang tight.

Helping Injured First Responders Fast

SPEAKER_06

Well, thank you for ask asking me.

SPEAKER_18

Of course. We're very excited to jump into this. I think a lot of people admire firefighters. I have friends who are firefighters, but I think a lot of people don't fully realize just how physically demanding the job is day, day after day, day by day. Can you talk a little bit about how demanding the job of a firefighter is?

SPEAKER_06

Well, I'm I'm a retired firefighter. Uh I had a retire at the age of 38 uh due to uh a back and shoulder injury. Um so I understand it. I mean, I was fortunate I was one of the fortunate ones that uh was able to get a job as a fire chief after I was injured and got some permission from the Houston Fire Department. But the the the top four main injuries for firefighters uh are usually joint injuries. And that includes uh your lower back, your knee, your shoulder, and your hip. Uh of those four, I've had uh both my shoulders, both my knees, and five back surgeries. So I know firsthand.

unknown

Right.

SPEAKER_18

And those are just, I think, surprise not only me, but a lot of people, because those are not often minor injuries. Those can very, very drastically change somebody's entire life, their entire livelihood. Um, and and they can be, like I said, life-altering injuries. And I think people are not aware. I know a lot of people understand there's danger associated with being a firefighter. We are aware of that. We know that, you know, you're putting yourself in harm's way, possibly every day. I think a lot of people aren't aware of the injuries that a lot of people walk away with, and how those are not, you know, you have a sprained ankle at the end of the day. These are potentially life-changing, debilitating injuries that can completely change the way you're able to work. Correct. Actually, uh go ahead. No, go ahead, go ahead. I'd love to hear it.

SPEAKER_06

Uh I mean, there's actually fire ground, there's there's 44,000 injuries per year uh that are disabling to firefighters. And that doesn't include additional 4,000 of firefighters that get injured responding to or from the fire, uh, going back to the station. Uh 43% of the on-duty injuries injuries uh do respond do uh require extended uh time of work. Um a knee injury will take about six weeks uh minimum six weeks. Um that's where we have uh 53% of the firefighters that get injured are uh the injuries uh cause them to go to the hospital. Um the big thing is is 70 to 80 percent of the firefighters out there mostly career firefighters, just doesn't include the volunteers, which are are are just as important. But 70 to 80 percent of the career firefighters uh do work a part-time job, and that's where friends first responders comes in to help. Um for instance, uh a firefighter that gets injured uh is gonna be off for six weeks, they cannot work their part-time job, which uh in many cases uh firefighters can make more money uh doing a part-time job. Uh you know, if they own a small business, uh if if if they own a small business while they're off injured, they cannot work their time. So it's like six weeks that uh there's no income coming in for something income. So it's important. Uh help uh quite a few injured firefighters and police officers. We do all first responders. Um our goal is to get them uh a thousand dollars within 48 hours of their time of injury. Uh we have also helped firefighters have been burned, reused in firefighters that were burned uh two years ago. Uh our goal was to get them to each a thousand dollars in their pocket. Uh because there's there's a lot of out of out of pocket uh that you don't expect to pay for. Uh workers comp takes a little bit of time to kick in and to assist you.

SPEAKER_18

So Right, of course. And and that's one thing that I also I I had no idea um until reading information how many firefighters work second jobs to support their families. I didn't know that. I wasn't aware of the percentages at all. Uh and it appears like it's just a staggering amount of people who are working with supplemental income to make sure they can provide well for their families. And so when somebody does get hurt, uh, whether that's from a fire or from any sort of injury associated therein, they're not just losing one paycheck. They're not able to say, well, I guess I had to take a break from firefighting for a little bit, but I'll still be able to work. It kind of cuts out all of their income, any ability they have, as often the sole providers of their family, um, which is devastating to a home. And so I want to come in a little bit more with how you guys actually help, how people can get involved, all that sort of stuff to kind of talk about. I I think we all understand and agree that it is incredibly important uh that those who are risking their lives every single day are taken care of, right? If something does happen to them that they are still taken care of, they're still able to get what they need. Um, and that's where I think you guys largely come in. What kind of needs? You mentioned some of the costs, out-of-pocket costs you don't expect, but I think a lot of that also goes into just day-by-day living costs as well.

SPEAKER_06

Uh to go get prescriptions. Sometimes uh, you know, you have to pay out of pocket for prescriptions. Uh I mean you're reimbursed at a later date, but in the very beginning, it's very uh I mean my wife my wife cried when I got injured, and uh you know, our daughter was getting ready to go off to college and we didn't know how we were gonna pay our bills. And back when I got injured, we didn't have uh something like friends and first responders. Uh it's just in recent recent years where we've had uh people assist us with with injuries like this. Um people don't are not aware of how many kind of firefighters get hurt. Uh we're we're kind of um we have that macho image where we don't want people to know that we are injured and we're you know we're we're we're nobody can destroy us we're we're indestructible. So uh first of first responders is a great cause. Um last year we helped fire out uh we helped three burn firefighters, we helped a uh pre-faster that broke his ankle, uh and a uh traffic calf. We've helped uh there's a pre-faster than a torn rotator cough that we felt eight weeks. Uh wrestling with a a a drunk person. Uh we had two torn five steps that we've helped, uh, and then multiple shoulder injuries. So the big the biggest thing is is without being contacted if if we know the firefighters that get injured. Um my goal is to get them a check of a minimum of $1,000 uh within 24 to 48 hours. The problem is many many fire departments, uh in their firefighters. Or I don't know why I'm I'm not gonna say that they're afraid to call us, but uh it's sometimes it seems hard to get a phone call from an injured firefighter. And we're we're here to help them. I mean it's uh it's everything to know you know how you're gonna my daughter was getting ready to go after college. We we were scared to death on how we were gonna pay that. We had already signed uh everything for her to go after AM and and we didn't know how we were gonna pay for it. Right. That's the one we're talking about. Um you go on our web page and you can uh donate that way. It's a great cost. Right, actually, I think we're glad. I know when when when John and I John and I work together at uh working on the file with the first requirement and he said, Hey, I want to open up a a non project and he told me how much money he thought we could raise. Because we do a number two fundraisers for you. We usually do a barbecue. And we've done uh a poker knife, which is And uh I said, can we please help uh those that get injured those those firefighters that get injured on the job, or police officers that you get injured on the job? So he was that's that's how we got started.

SPEAKER_18

Absolutely, and I think again it's really important to highlight uh that there needs to be this sort of setup because these people again are are the reason that many of us are safe. And the reality is that they're they're risking that every day when they do get injured, when they do get hurt, when they do need help, we have to be there to stand up and help them. And I think friends of first responders, how can people kind of find that website? What's the what's the link?

SPEAKER_06

Oh it's it's uh uh Texas friends of first responders, I believe.com. They can Google uh Google that and it should bring the right link.

SPEAKER_01

Right.

SPEAKER_06

Um everything that we do. Uh yard. We have given another thing to firefighter. It goes directly to injured firefighters and police officers in the Houston metropolitan area. So it's a great cause if you live in the Houston uh area.

SPEAKER_18

Right. And we hear Patriot and Twenty also love that. That's why we kind of joined up with you guys uh as one of our sponsors of our new first responder of the week segment, which by the way, for all of our listeners, you can nominate someone to be the first responder of the week here at Patriot 920 um by going, it's very simple, 920 920 firstresponder.com. Uh, when you nominate somebody, uh, we're gonna have uh a lot of stuff given we're gonna give them a hundred dollar gift card from Federal American Grill so they can, you know, enjoy a well-deserved night out. And you can use the form on that website. We're also gonna run a special on-air segment that runs that entire week. Court Of Criminal Appeals Runoff Fight

SPEAKER_18

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative, a campaign event hosted by attorneys connected to last year's Alvarado ICE detention center attack case, has now become a point of contention in the Republican runoff for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. The controversy centers on candidate Allison Fox, who held a petition signing event last September in Fort Worth as part of her effort to qualify. The event was sponsored by criminal defense attorneys Cody Kofer and Frank Sellers. At the time, both attorneys were representing defendants charged in connection with the July 4th attack on the Prairie Land Ice Attention Center in Alvarado. The attack involved members of a North Texas Antifa cell who arrived at the facility armed with firearms, body armor, and explosives before opening fire on officers. An Alvarado police officer was shot in the neck during the incident, but did survive, fortunately. Earlier this year, nine defendants were convicted on a variety of federal charges tied to the attack, including attempted murder of federal officers, providing material support to terrorists, and conspiracy offenses. In a social media following the event, Fox thanked both Kofer and Sellers for hosting such a wonderful signature signing and meet and greet. And so, of course, Alison Fox, who allowed these lawyers who represented the defendants in that case, she came out and she made a statement. She said, The criticism is both ridiculous and disappointing. I was not aware that individuals attending a public petition signing event were representing defendants in that matter. And as a judicial candidate, I cannot ethically comment on pending or ongoing cases. She said what should concern voters is not guilt by association politics, but whether a candidate understands the Constitution, due process, and the importance of judicial impartiality. Every person accused of a crime is entitled to legal representation under our system of justice. Attempts to turn that principle into a political attack reflect a troubling misunderstanding of how our justice system works. Her opponent, uh, in the Republican runoff, that is Thomas Smith, argued that reflects broader concerns about her candidacy in the primary. He said, This is another sign that my opponent is not really a Republican. She's a former Soros DA lawyer who recruited Democrats to vote in our primary to cancel out Republican votes. He said, I have over 20 endorsements from Tarrant County Republican leaders. Her support there is from lawyers for Antifa thugs who tried to murder our ICE officers on the fourth of July, and that sums up the difference between the two of us. She is the most leftist candidate to ever appear on a statewide Republican ballot in Texas. And so again, uh that that runoff is the same runoff election that we have going on right now. The voting day is actually election day is May 26th, but early voting is open today, tomorrow, and Friday if you'd like to early vote, which is always my recommendation. But again, I think this highlights the importance of selecting people for these positions who actually understand. Of course, she can come out all she wants and say, well, the goal of any impartial judicial candidate is to understand our constitution, to understand due process, to understand the importance of judicial impartiality, uh, not guilt by association. But the reality is that who you surround yourself with is actually incredibly important. This is why when you find out that you have people in an election who are supposedly mega conservative, who are supposedly uh super pro-life, super anti-like all of these things that are associated with being a conservative, when you find out that that candidate's wife is basically leading the Texas chapter for mothers against Greg Abbott, which even if you don't like Greg Abbott, you have to understand that organization is not just anti-Greg Abbott, they're anti-Greg Abbott because he's too far right. Which for those longtime listeners of the show, you know that my issues with Governor Greg Abbott are not because he is too far to the right, but because he isn't far enough. And so it causes, I think, a level of concern. Say, hey, we're not trying to play some guilt by association game. And I'm not saying that everyone I've ever been with, everyone I've ever been close with, everyone I've ever, ever had a relationship with has been top tier, and that if you looked into them, that they would be perfect. What I am saying is that who you choose to help organize your campaign kickoff event, I think is indicative of the kind of person that you are. And you can defend that, and I'm happy to hear a defense of that. And I understand that there should be a level of, well, why don't we care more about policy than who my friends are? Uh but the Bible is very clear that that you know, if you are a companion of fools, then y you are also a fool. Uh that wise men dwell in the counsel of the godly, that we should be selecting those who we surround ourselves with based on what's going to build us up, not tear us down. And if you're running for office, right, that is even more important. I said this before. Our standards for a person in general should be very high. Our cultural standards for who participates in society should be much higher than it is right now. But there should be even higher standards for those who desire to run for office to represent the people, especially in a position as important, well not sexy, but as important as the Court of Criminal Appeals. It is incredibly important that the people that we elect to positions, that position and positions like that, are fully capable and competent of representing true American values. And and no amount of clean verbiage saying, well, I understand the Constitution in due process, that's phenomenal. I'm glad you understand it. But how are you going to apply it? How do you actually live your life? What do you actually ultimately believe? Not just, you know, have knowledge of, but what do you actually believe about these things? Because that will impact the way that you rule on cases, which is incredibly important to court precedent, uh, to the way that the state of Texas operates or criminal justice system in general. It's incredibly severe what those consequences will be if we choose people who should not be in that position. And so I'm not saying, again, who to vote for and that automatically you should just throw out Allison Fox. That's not my claim. My claim is that we should be very cautious who we're electing. And we should make sure that whoever it is is going to represent us well, is going to stand up for the truth, even when it's inconvenient, and is going to stand on the right side of history. And every little thing will contribute to whether or not that's the case. Every little thing, even down to who you chose ultimately to host your campaign events.
