Patriotism gets reduced to slogans fast, but we are not interested in bumper-sticker love of country. We start with a blunt question: if you fly the flag but reject the nation’s history, its founding ideas, and the idea of a shared national identity, what exactly are you celebrating? From Fourth of July energy to the post-2020 backlash against “loving America,” we talk about why symbols matter only when they point to something real.

From there, we move into Texas education news that actually shapes the next generation: State Board of Education votes on K-8 social studies standards, shifts in how history is taught, and reading list changes that include Jonah and the Whale plus a strong preference for printed books over digital in early grades. We explain why the lens matters when teaching slavery, segregation, and injustice, and why a chronological story of Texas history, American history, and Western civilization is a different project than training kids to feel shame.

We also break down HISD’s decision to adopt the Texas Education Agency Blue Bonnet curriculum for elementary classrooms, including the arguments over biblical references, transparency, and state funding incentives. In the second hour, we hit big accountability stories: a Texas Supreme Court decision reopening a detransitioner medical malpractice lawsuit, a Montgomery County child indecency case and what due process demands, and a Fifth Circuit ruling that suppressors are protected by the Second Amendment even as National Firearms Act restrictions remain. We close with a powerful real-world reminder of grit: a Friendswood boy survives a shark attack because his older brother refuses to panic.

Holiday Pride And National Identity

For D in the heart of Texas, it's Houston's gun loving David, and the voice of reason.

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative here on Patriot Talk 920. And it is, of course, fantastic to be back with you this fine Monday morning here for a new week of the show. By the way, just want to come out and you know be too pro anything, but let me let me just point out. Let me just be let me just point out how excited I am, given uh this weekend is one of the best holidays of all time. Ever, ever thought of, ever created, one of the best ones. And I mean that that's probably largely because I'm a red-blooded American. That's at least partially because my family has been here since the Revolutionary War. But a lot of that is also how much I think that we need a little patriotism back. When I when I look around the country, one of the biggest things I see is, and the left has tried to rectify this, because if you guys rem if you guys think back to 2020 era, I it was a big deal because the left hated America. And it's not that they they don't now, but I'm I'm kind of getting there. For at least a couple years, there was they were willing to admit out loud that they hated the country, especially with how big BLM had gotten. Right? The whole thing about BLM was largely that, well, Black Lives Matter is highlighting how the systemic injustice has been perpetrated against people of African descent because of slavery. And that was that was an American sin that was almost uniquely American, and therefore I hate America for it. That was largely the position of the leftist movement for at least a couple years. I would hear all the time, uh I remember back again in that era, TikTok was at its peak. Everybody was on TikTok, you know. And you'd you'd see all these videos of people saying the craziest things about the country, about other people who love the country. I remember one lady who said, you know, I I how I can tell if someone's like a racist, MAGA, hateful person, if they if they have an American flag in their yard. If they if they keep an American flag outside. And so they they started to view America, loving America, patriotism as like a dog whistle for racism and bigotry and hatred. They started to see the country that way and other people in it. And so, whenever I think back, you know, I see today that the left again has tried to kind of make an effort. They've they've really tried to do their darndest to come out and to kind of hatch that up. They realize now that that's not a very good look. As it turns out, hating the country that you supposedly want to save is not the way to do business, is not the way to win, and they're now finding that out. But the reality is that when you look out at this country, the patriotism the left claims to espouse is not really actually patriotism at all. Because they can fly an American flag all they want. But the American flag is actually symbolic, it actually is completely irrelevant as an item on its own. The American flag is a a meaningless piece of fabric if you have no idea what America is. If if you have, if if you're the imagine for a moment that you're living in some country that and you've never you've never studied world history, you've never seen the TV, you've no idea that America as a nation really even exists. You've not taken geography, you're just a child. And your dad brings home a souvenir from a business trip, and he travels the world, and he brings you an American flag. Do you know any of the rules about that flag? The flag code? No. Do you know do you know what that flag represents? Do you do you care about that country really that the flag is is you know, supporting? Do you care about any of that? Is any of that really relevant to you? Does any of it matter to you? And if you said, well, he flies a flag, he has it up on his wall, yeah, it's a souvenir for him. It's a souvenir item. And you can say, yeah, that's pretty cool. That's pretty great. And you can learn about history and say that's a pretty cool country, whatever. But real patriotism is is far deeper than that. It it has everything to do with national identity. Uh that's why when I hear people who wanna want to claim patriotic that want to claim to be patriotic, but I look around and there's there's no sense of national pride. There's no sense of desire for nationalism at all. In fact, they look at nationalism and they claim that it's racist and hateful as an ideology. I immediately know they're not real patriots. You you can't be. You you cannot really be a patriot of America and not be to a degree nationalistic. Now, that doesn't mean that you're an isolationist and we don't need to get into political philosophy and what that looks like on a global scale. But I just want to highlight that the flag is not something that in its own right is great. The flag is great because of the country the flag represents, the history, the sacrifice, the grit, the pioneer, the frontiersman. Because it represents the history of this country, the heritage that all of us share together, take part in. That our that our forefathers fought and died for. And this weekend, this upcoming weekend, we get to celebrate that. We get to celebrate the history. Uh, we often do that with, you know, fireworks, maybe music. Uh, we do that with with with what whatever way your family celebrates. But one of the big things I'd encourage you to do with any holiday, and I'll bring this up again on Friday, more than likely, for those who tune in over the weekend. One of the big things that I would encourage people to do is to take a little bit of time going into Fourth of July. It doesn't have to be on the fourth. And and I'll do a little bit of this probably on Friday, uh, in in lieu of not being on the air on Saturday. Take some time and remember our history. Remember what the flag actually represents, what that flag stands for, what the men died for in this country that made it so great. Because we've lost a lot of that. When you look around, most of the fights that we're dealing with today are directly existent because we've forgotten our national identity. We've forgotten who we are as a people, and and really the history that goes far bef far beyond 1776, far beyond even the 18th century, far beyond the 17th century. This goes back uh thousands of years of European history that that fomented the kind of people that came to America in the first place, that came and built a civilization in a wasteland. And that history, whether you want to call it evil or racist or whatever term you want to throw around to justify hating your country, doesn't change the truth. It doesn't change reality, it doesn't change greatness. And America is a great nation. Possibly the greatest there's ever been. If I'm if I'm being honest, maybe there's a little bit of bias in that, but quite possibly the greatest country to have ever existed in the history of the world. And we have something unique, and we have something that is truly beautiful that we've that we've made here. And it's being thrown in the trash by people who hate this country, by people who hate its heritage, by people who hate its history, and by people who, frankly, hate a history they don't even know, hate a history they don't even want studied, hate a history that they've tried to rewrite over and over and over again. They they hate this country. And, you know, I I've brought it up before, but it's so funny how often people on the left who will acknowledge that they are not Christian, that they are that they are either agnostic, atheist, or from some some other religion, some pagan belief system, they'll come forward and they'll they'll say, Hey, but the Bible says this, and they'll lecture you about what Christianity means. They'll lecture you about the words of Jesus Christ, they'll lecture you about what it means to be a Christian and what the law of God says. And it's always so funny to me. It's always so ironic to me. Because as I pointed out before, and I will continue to point out, you probably shouldn't get your advice on how to live in a Christian manner from people who don't believe it. Who from people who are not being led by the Holy Spirit, from people who have no idea what Christianity actually is, who only want to use it as a weapon against those who believe it. And that's the same thing for America. You probably should not take advice on the history, heritage, or beliefs of this nation from people who hate the country, who want to rewrite its history, and who want to change the foundational reality of what this country is. Those are probably not the people to listen to when you're deciding what to believe about this country. Maybe instead you should listen to people who love what this country is and what this country stands for, people who want to bring back traditional values that were part of this country's foundational greatness. When you talk about when you talk about all of these LGBTQ issues, for instance, this country was built on the back of hardworking men and women who, like it or not, stayed home, who who won it. It wasn't just that they stayed home and it was some sort of tyrannical dictatorship in the homes. I know that again, that's the revisionist history that you'll hear from the left all the time, that prior to the the sexual revolution of the past 50 years, that women were were subjected to immense horrors. It's not true. It was not even remotely true. And you can look at basically any scale, any metric at all, to see if women have gotten happy over the last 50 years, to see if women have grown in any level of joy whatsoever. And you'll find the answer is no. If you look at anxiety and depression and stress, literally any metric of things that are bad, that is skyrocketed among women. You know why? Because we started we started rejecting reality, we started rejecting the things that people who came before us, who are quite smart, by the way, already knew. We no longer wanted to learn. We thought we've reached the peak of human greatness. We we know what's true, we know what works and what doesn't. And rather than pull from history, rather than learn from men who came before us, we said, no, we don't want to do that. We want to, we want to find our own thing. We want to learn our own stuff. And we're finding out the hard way, uh, that maybe, maybe, just maybe, that innovation and technology and progress didn't make us smarter. Didn't make us more intelligent, it just added to the information we had. And when you wholesale reject what we'd already learned, things that we'd already gone through, because you want to figure it out yourself, it turns out that just like a child who doesn't want to listen to his father, it's not very good. When a father says, Hey, you need to do it this way, you're gonna learn the hard way if you don't listen. And the child gets hurt in one way or another and says, Man, I probably should have listened to my dad. That's exactly what's happening in the country right now. It's why you have a huge surge right now among among especially young people, of a desire to say, Hey, whatever we're doing right now is not good. When I look around this country and I look at the way people are feeling and acting and behaving, it's not good. And they're drawn, looking back at traditional values, they're drawn to it because they realize, man, people were were so much better off. People were so much happier, people were so much more hardworking. What happened? Where did we go so wrong? And so all of that ties, all of that ties back into patriotism, uh, a love of family, a love of country, and a love of God that you you can't replace because to replace it would be to destroy it. I mean, you can't, you can't they don't want to call it replacement because it sounds bad, but that's exactly what it is. They don't want to reform America into something better, something greater. It's not truly what they want. They want to destroy a true perception of this country. They want a total rejection of greatness, of, of the morals that were foundational to our country. They want that gone. They don't want it taught anymore. They're very upset when it does get taught. And that's why we're here on the show every morning. That's why, regardless of what the left continues to say and do, I'm willing to address the real historical narrative. I'm willing to go back and say, hey, it doesn't matter whether you call me hateful or bigoted or racist or whatever, it doesn't matter at all because truth is not bound by insults, truth is not bound by evil, truth is not bound by some sort of foreign pagan worship, truth is not bound by a desire to be liked or a desire to have people cheer and applaud. No. Truth is driven by one thing and one thing only, and that is itself. Truth is driven by truth. And it is objective and it is real and it is tangible, and you can learn it, you can trust it, you can teach it. And that's important. Especially going into a celebration about our country and its greatness and where we came from, it's very important. As we're celebrating the second best holiday of all time, second only to Christmas, by the way, second only to Christmas, that we remember what made this country truly great. And again, we'll we'll actually go into specifics on that uh as we get closer to the 4th of July. But I just wanted to highlight, hey, we're getting there. Give us a few more days and we'll be there fourth of July coming up. That's why you see the fireworks stands getting ready. It's time. With that being said, speaking of teaching the truth about our country and history and getting into what our children learn, I did mention that on Friday would be the finalized votes coming out from the State Board of Education regarding classroom instruction, some changes to the curriculum, some changes to what needs to be taught in our school system, our government school system specifically. And they did, they did do those final votes on Friday. So here on the next show, immediately following those votes, we're going to go over some of the changes that we've seen among K through eight social study standards and reading lists and all that sort of stuff when we get back from the break. As always, now that we've started off a new week, the number has not changed, though the week has, and you can text in and let us know your thoughts, concerns, disagreements, or a story you want to hear more about, you can text in at 713-779-5978. Texas Education Standards Get Rewritten

SPEAKER_08

Despite receiving some praise for upholding solid American and Texas values in the standards of K through five, concerned individuals pointed out shortfalls made during the amendment process for the sixth through twelfth grade standards. One major critique that I think is fair was the removal of significant revolutionary war battles in high school U.S. history, which was made early Thursday morning, which we discussed, by the way, either Thursday or Friday, that they were planning on doing that, though it had not yet gone to a finalized vote. That was made, by the way, there was a restoration made without any objection of those standards during the board's meeting on Thursday evening after the State Board of Education member Kevin Ellis moved to reconsider U.S. history, followed by Audrey Young making the motion to restore the Revolutionary War battles to the Texas National Knowledge and Skills. According to Mary Elizabeth Castle, Director of Government Relations for Texas Values, the removal of the battles took place at 1 a.m. when there were only seven members of the board in the room. Following the restoration, Chair Aaron Kenzie moved to postpone high school standards for U.S. history, U.S. government, world history, and world geography to a later date. Amendments made to the K through eight standards before the final vote included simplifying language and reducing detail, but still keeping the core content. Member Pam Little put forth an amendment to teach the younger elementary school grades how to use a globe, and that passed without any objection at all. The board ultimately gave final approval for social studies. In addition to the social studies standards, the board also approved new reading lists. Before the final vote, Member L. J. Francis, his Republican editor Corpus Christi, added Jonah and the Whale to first grade as on the reading list, which is phenomenal. Francis also put forth an amendment to the rule text that strongly recommends the use of printed books over. Digital for K through five students, which also passed. And the board gave final approval to that as well in a nine to five vote. So the majority, we got it, we win. And this is kind of what really happened here. And again, this is this is bigger than just putting Jonah in there, though that's part of it. It's it's kind of a big thing because we didn't just approve a few new reading assignments. We kind of took a step back toward remembering the point of education, which is something that we've we've unfortunately again lost somehow in American history. Uh for years, also, we know, and this is why I said the left has captured institutions and why that's such a grave error for us to have let happen. Uh the left treated social studies like it was a struggle session. That's that's what was happening in our schools. Uh the goal of understanding history in general was not to teach children where they came from or what their civilization built or why things like ordered liberty is important, why America is a nation worth preserving. The goal instead was to train children to look at their own country with hatred for the past. Uh to see Christianity as something that is embarrassing, that we can't we can't believe we let that creep into our country. Uh, and to see the founders as hypocrites, see the founding fathers as evil men, and to believe that America is uniquely guilty among all the nations of the world, America is uniquely bad. And that's just not true. America is not uniquely evil, though we are very uniquely cool. I think is the best way you could sum this up. I I mean we're talking about a country, and again, we'll get we'll get into more about American history later. I just wanted to because they did the vote, I think it was important to discuss. We're talking about a country that was born out of a lot of different, you know, kinds of culminations uh from English liberty, Protestant political thought, which would have been even back then relatively new, uh, given the time of the Reformation. Local self-government, again, ordered liberty was on there, written constitutions, and really I think the the biggest radical claim that founded this country, which was that rights do not come from the state, they do not come from the government, though they should be protected by those things, they are given to you, they come from God. And again, that doesn't mean that every man in American history was s was was was perfect, right? It does not mean uh that every chapter of our history was good and clean and and didn't make mistakes. Of course, the things we did that were wrong should also be taught. But it depends on the lens in which you teach it. Because again, the left would teach things like you know, racism and segregation and slavery and injustice and any other number of things as proof that America as a nation was inherently evil. But instead of teaching it as as this out-of-context evil thing, how how about perhaps we teach American history as things to be taught as evils that America had to fight through and overcome, not as proof that America is evil at the root. And that's a major difference, right? The left wants children to inherit a level of shame and anger and frustration at the past, and we, as Christians and as conservatives, want them to inherit their their heritage, right? And that's a lot of why the changes in these standards are are very important to the history of our our country. Uh the new framework moves toward this sort of chronological understanding of history. It puts Texas, American, and Western history back into more of a coherent story that children can actually learn. Uh it teaches children they're not random consumers floating around in a digital world. This is also why it's important to have the the the non-digital books back to physical copies. They also think that is incredibly important. Um, but it also teaches teaches children that they're citizens, that they're heirs, that they have received something from the effort of their ancestors, and that if they're gonna keep that thing that was earned, they have to know what the thing is and how to defend it. And I mean, step one in education is what is the thing you inherited? What is the truth about your country that you have an active stake in? That's also why having content, biblical content, is very crucial. Not because we want government schools to be the arbiter of teaching the Bible. We don't want we don't want it to be church, and I'm not claiming that. But it's because you can't understand America without understanding the Bible. You you can't you can't. You cannot understand the pilgrims and the Mayflower and the Mayflower Compact and abolition and the the founders. You can't even read the founders' vocabulary. You can't even read their letters and their beliefs and their claims uh without the basic assumptions of Western law, which is the biblical worldview, right? That shaped almost every assumption of Western law. You're you're skipping out on step one of understanding any of our history. The secular version, the leftist version of history, requires someone to pretend that Christianity was some weird private hobby that some people had way back when that had nothing to do with America's form y formation, that has nothing to do with America's greatness, uh, which is which is absurd. It's also historically insane and illiterate. It also doesn't read anything. If you want to make that claim, you'd have to say that I I've actually not ever read real history at all. I just read whatever my book told me. And to be clear, I I I every now and then I say there's any celebration, I say the the fight's not over. That's true here as well. Um the high school standards were postponed, as we just read, which means that US history and and government and world history and world geography, we still have to deal with those things. Um and that's where the battle is it's gonna be even more intense because that's when you really start to dive into more detail-oriented. When you're teaching K through eighth, I don't want to say that it's easy, right? That it's it's that simple, but it's pretty simple. Right? Teaching young children the the basics is kind of the easy part. It's when you get into the mess of high school that things really start to foment in a child's mind as to what they're gonna believe the rest of their lives. High school is incredibly important because that's a major formative years of someone's life going into adulthood. Um, but and and and so that's that's where the left's gonna want to control even more of the narrative. Uh but the direction that we're seeing at least is good. Because if we can do that with K through eighth, there is at least a door, there is a way to do the same thing for high school, right? And and again, let me be clear. Texas, Texas schools, we should teach slavery, right? But that doesn't mean that we should teach that America is reductible down to slavery. That that was that was that was America, that America was just a slave state, right? Again, uh, we should teach the flaws of our leaders, but we should also teach why men like Washington or Jefferson or or Madison, or you get into Crockett and and Houston and and and Robert E. Lee, you get into all these names. And the men who built the state and nation are worth remembering. And not just because they made some mistakes, but because of the great things they achieved. And so, yeah, it matters. It matters whether a first grader actually hears the story of Jonah. It matters whether a child reads real books as opposed to digital books. It matters whether a ch a student is willing to actually and able to be taught about the pilgrims and why they came here. Because it was not just for I know that they want to reduce it again down to taxation without representation. Representation of what? What did that ultimately and that that actually came later because the pilgrims weren't coming here because of no representation and taxation, they were actually coming here for something greater. They were pursuing religious freedom, and not religious freedom in the sense that some of them were pagan worshippers of Hinduism. No, no, no. They were coming here for Christian religious freedom specifically. It matters that students can learn that the Mayflower Compact was, I mean, you you read it, you find out very quickly that you can't read it without knowing what Christianity is because it's inherent to the document. And learning, right, by the way, that among all those things kind of added together, that the liberty and greatness of America did not just fall out of the sky by some sort of magic because we just accidentally stumbled upon it. Right. That means that you have to teach the truth. That means that you have to teach the whole story of our country. You have to teach children to love what is lovely, what is good, true, and beautiful. And you have to teach them to hate what is evil. And you you you you have to teach them to understand that America, for all of her issues and struggles and and difficulties, is one of, if not the greatest civilization that God has ever allowed in his grace and providence, men to build. And I'm very excited because that at least appears to be the direction that we're headed here in the state of Texas.

Teaching History Without National Shame

HISD Picks Blue Bonnet Curriculum

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. HISD also had some of their votes going on over the weekend uh whether or not to adopt the state's blue bonnet learning curriculum for elementary school students. And they did actually vote to do so, uh, which reversed last year's decision and prompted debate over the role of biblical references in government education. The curriculum, which is a course developed by the Texas Education Agency, includes references to stories and figures from the Bible as a part of lessons designed to teach students about literature, history, and culture. State officials have said the curriculum is intended to teach about the Bible's historical and cultural influence, not really to teach the religious aspects. But during the board meeting, several parents urged trustees to reject the curriculum, arguing the district did not provide enough transparency or opportunity for public input before the vote. One parent told trustees, quote, forcing Blue Bonnet on the district without transparency, clarity, or community involvement is unacceptable. It is too soon, and the stakes are too high. Another parent argued the public schools should remacused on secular education. Quote, public education should unite our community by focusing on shared secular knowledge and civic values, not by disproportionately highlighting one religion or religious textbook, which is just, again, fundamentally misunderstanding the history of our entire civilization. District leaders, meanwhile, said three factors drove the recommendation this year. The State Board of Education's approved reading list and vocabulary, which are expected to be reflected on future state assignments, state law requiring instruction about religious literature and its impact on history and secular literature, and approximately $3.3 million in additional state funding to districts that adopt the curriculum. In a statement, HISD say, quote, the adoption for the 2026 to 2027 school year ensures that Houston ISD remains aligned with Texas state standards while maintaining the district's evidence-based approach to literacy instruction. Houston ISD remains focused on ensuring that parents receive high or students receive high quality literacy instruction that aligns with state requirements, prepares them for future assessments, and helps more students read on grade level. District leaders emphasize the Blue Bonnet will not replace HISD's overall instructional model. Instead, the district plans to replace some of its reading text and vocabulary with the state approved Blue Bonnet materials while continuing to use HISD developed lesson plans and classroom activities already in place. Deputy Superintendent Kristen Hole told trustee teachers that trust uh that teachers will continue receiving lesson plans in the same format they already use, and said replacing reading text is something teachers have routinely done over the years. Mike Miles also sought to reassure parents that the change would not dramatically alter classroom instruction. He said, While it sounds like a massive change, it isn't. It's a significant change. There's no question some of the text will be different, but a lot of it will be the same. Our estimate is about forty percent is different and sixty percent is the same. District leaders also told trustees they wanted the board to vote before the school year begins, so teachers would have enough time to prepare instructional materials ahead of the first day of class. Uh HISD was asked what options parents have. They don't want their children participating in the blue bonnet curriculum. Um HIST said that it's working to provide a response. I'll give you one that HIST probably won't say because they're cowards. Uh feel free to apply for school choice and pull your kids out of public school. And if you want to homeschool them secularly, you have the right to do that. So feel free if you don't like what the government's teaching to pull your kids out. That's what so many people have had to do for the past 50 years. For the past 50 years, as education has become more and more secularized and and turned into a mush of terrible academics, so many people had to say, hey, let me pull my kids out. And you're actually in a very fortuitous situation because you just happen to be not liking things right as school choice becomes available. So if you don't like the curriculum and you don't like what's being taught, how about you sit down and you say, hey, maybe I won't use public school anymore? That's that's up to you. Um but the curriculum is expected to be implemented during the upcoming school year. So we'll see how all that goes, how that actually applies. I'm sure the extra $3 million will be beneficial for the district if they use it wisely. And I we've seen some success coming out of the blue bonnet curriculum in terms of literacy. So I think it'll be a good in general to bring back the basics and say, hey, maybe you should be able to read and write. Maybe maybe that should be a standard that we have in our school system, is that it's bad when 25 to 50 percent of kids are at or below grade level. That's actually not a positive thing. And we should start experimenting to say, hey, what were they doing before that looked different than now? And one of the big things was they actually cared about literacy and and the Bible being a part of curriculum. With that being said, of course, we'll be wrapping up the first hour of the show and we get back, and as such, here at the bottom of the first hour, we'll be going over the weather report for this new week that we're in starting today, and then of course going through the rest of the week looking forward at the 4th of July holiday this weekend. Houston Heat And Saharan Dust

SPEAKER_08

While Houston's summertime heat still shows no sign of relenting whatsoever, a dense plume of Saharan dust is expected to settle into South and Southeast Texas by today and linger in the skies over Houston through early Wednesday, according to the National Weather Service. Now, although the dust will result in hazy skies and produce vibrant sunrises and sunsets, this week it will also reduce air quality and could aggravate conditions for those with respiratory issues like asthma or even just basic allergic reactions. Uh, the Next Commission on Environmental Quality said in its air quality forecast, quote, fine particulate concentrations are expected to increase across most regions, although the breezier winds could promote dispersion and somewhat mitigate the effects. The air quality index, which measures concentrations of our particulate matter, could reach the lower to middle of the unhealthy for sensitive groups range in parts of the Houston metro area. Now, as we head into the final days of June, Houston continues to deal with what the Weather Service describes as a moderate to major level of heat risk daily throughout the next week, thanks in no small part to the humidity-driven heatiness values, which are the feels-like temperatures, anywhere from 103 to 107 degrees through tomorrow. Although forecasters are highlighting the return of low to moderate rain chances near the middle of the coming week, um, I would not look to that for any sort of hope that the heat is going to be dismantled in any major way. High atmospheric pressure, which tend to suppress rain chances and heat up surface temperatures, is continuing to be the dominant influence on Houston weather this week. The Weather Service said in a forecast bulletin, quote, at the surface, at the surface, high pressure over the Gulf will help maintain a persistent southerly airflow across the region. This will maintain warm and humid conditions over the next few days. Rain changes also appear to be hindered by this hair and dust. Um, as we head into the work week, the upper level range of high pressure will gradually shift north and east, which could open the door to a few upper level impulses. Forecasters said they anticipate the arrival of a deep surge of atmospheric moisture, and other moisture might end up centered east of Houston. We might see a slight uptick in rain chances, generally 20 to 40 percent during the afternoons from midweek through the weekend. Still too far out to know for sure what Saturday is going to look like 4th of July. But I want to go ahead and keep you guys coated that we do have a chance for rain later in the week, though it is still relatively small. That'll do the first hour of the show. Lots more news coming out, starting with the Deep Transitioners lawsuit for medical malpractice. Text in 713-779-5978, and we'll be right back at the top of the next hour.

Detransitioner Lawsuit Reopened By Texas Supreme Court

SPEAKER_08

Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative here this fine Monday morning. And it is a beautiful day out there, even though, as we just mentioned in the weather report, it is a little bit warm and it's gonna be a little bit hot today. The weather, nevertheless, is gorgeous. And if you're born and raised here, which many of us are, you're not a transplant. Let's be honest, let's be honest, you get used to it. You adapt, you overcome. At some point, you know, you go outside and you, you, you say what everybody says. You go, man, it's hot today. But then you just do the day. It's not like somebody's visiting from Canada and they're coming down and they just don't know how to handle it. They don't want to go outside. For most of us, it just is what it is. And we're kind of used to it, and we can say, hey, it's a gorgeous sunny day, even when it's burning hot at over 100 degrees, which, by the way, we're not expecting to get over a hundred degrees today or the rest of this week. So you should be able to be just fine. But I want to kick off here in the second hour. We got this update coming out from a medical malpractice lawsuit from a detransitioner, which just for a little bit of reference, uh, just so people are aware, if you haven't heard the term before, a de-transitioner is someone who was at one point transitioning in terms of it's not a real transition, it's a it's a fake transition, just a medical transition. Uh, someone is born, either male or female, and attempts through surgical or medical means, surgical or pharmaceutical means, to become the opposite gender, which we all know is actually impossible, but they do their darndest. And so a detransitioner is someone who maybe was born male, who got surgeries to appear female, and then came to the conclusion this is insane, or came to the conclusion this is no fun. I've changed my mind, and then they go back to being a male. Right? That happens both directions and it happens all the time. Uh, and so Texas Supreme Court has now ruled that the detransitioner in this case, that is Soren Aldako, that her medical malpractice lawsuit may continue after it was dismissed by a lower court for being filed too late. Aldako, who is now in her early 20s, is seeking over one million dollars in damages from a transgender clinic after she reportedly underwent a botched double mastectomy as a teenager as part of her quote unquote gender transition. The lawsuit was filed back in July of 2023, claiming that her surgery was prompted by a counselor's recommendation letter full of false information about her gender identity. She has since detransitioned both medically and ideologically. Now, the trial court concluded that her claims were time barred under the Texas Medical Liability Act, which requires her claims to have been filed within two years of the incident. So the incident arguably in this case had to have happened by July of 2021 in order for the lawsuit, which was filed in July of 2023, to qualify. The court reasoned that Al Deco's claims, instead of going back to the surgery date, which would have been within two years, actually trace back to the date of the letter that she referenced. Well, that letter was given in February of 2021. Since she did not send the defendant's written pre-notice, pre-suit notice of her health care liability claims until May of 2023, the court determined she failed to meet the two-year deadline. On appeal, the second court of appeals in Fort Worth also affirmed that decision, reasoning that if her letter did not cause compensable damage until the surgery, it still represents the start date for her liability claims. Aldako filed another appeal, arguing that the Court of Appeals unraveled decades of precedent and gutted this basic tenet when it concluded that Miss Aldako should have sued the wood defendants within two years, even if the letter did not cause her any compensable damage until she underwent surgery. In other words, the letter on its own is not the thing she's suing for. That that's part of the background, background evidence of how they're ultimately liable, but the actual harm came from the surgery. And so the the claim is not that you have to go within two years of any pre those two-year thing that happened. If I go to a uh uh a college and a sexual assault happens, and just before the two line two-year deadline is up, I say, hey, there was a sexual assault, I'm suing over it. But it turns out that three months before I, the college had written a thing about how they weren't going to be looking after this stuff and their cameras were down, or whatever their reasoning is for why it happened. They don't get to come up and say, but we we gave that out more than two years ago. Yeah, but I'm actually that that's part of what will be in the lawsuit, but I'm actually suing over the actual sexual assault itself, the actual damage. And that is part of why there is damage, but the damage itself has been within two years. Anyways, that it's a mess, but I wanted to give an analogy to make it a little clearer. Al Dako argues that situations under precisely why we have subsections in our in our legal system. And the Court of Appeals has rendered that meaningless, detrimentally altering the rights of a plaintiff in Texas to bring a legitimate cause of action for personal injury. Um Subsection B is what she's referencing here of the Texas Medical Liability Act, which expressly permits claims to be brought under the TMLA up to ten years from the date of the act of occurrence, which serves as an absolute outer cutoff. And so the Supreme Court of Texas granted her petition for review, because she, of course, appealed it again from not only the lower court to the appeals court, and then finally the Supreme Court. And so they permitted a petition for review in December of last year, and oral arguments were heard in February of this year before all nine justices. Just over the weekend, the Supreme Court of Texas ruled that she did file a lawsuit before the limitations deadline. Justice James P. Sullivan wrote, quote, had Aldako sued after receiving the letter, but before undergoing the surgery, her claims and negligence and fraud would have failed as a matter of law because a tort had not yet occurred. In other words, there were there was no damage technically as a result of the letter. So the the letter itself is not the base of the lawsuit, is the claim from the Supreme Court, which is the claim she made. They said that would there was no definable damage coming from the letter itself. That's kind of irrelevant. The letter is just there to highlight how they had liability once the surgery was done. And so he continued quote, there was no bodily injury Aldako could have discovered until her double mastectomy was performed in June of 2021. Her two-year limitations period could start running on that date, not because she could have discovered her injury, but because that's when the tort she alleges first occurred. The court therefore came to a clear and unanimous decision. The opinion reads, Soren Aldako sued the therapist who enabled her elective double mastectomy. The Court of Appeals deemed her claims time barred by the statute in the limitations in the Texas Medical Liability Act, and we reverse. So now that so the lawsuit lawsuits are such a messy thing, by the way, you never really want to be in one. I know there's people who are, you know, those sort of litigious people that want to make their money off of lawsuits. They're really not fun unless you're in a class action. Even then it's a mess, you just don't have as much things to do with it. But when you're in a case like this, there are so many standards you have to meet. And so you sue in 2023, and three years later, literally, because we were we sued in June or in in May slash May to July of 2023. Three years later, you're finally told we can start trial. That's that's that's what this is, because they haven't made a ruling on the actual lawsuit. The lawsuit itself is whether or not they harmed her and are are liable for compensating her for that harm. That has not even been talked about yet. That's that's not been talked about in court at all. This was only if if the case itself could could even start. If she had met the time qualifications for the Liability Act. And now, three years later, they said, okay, yeah, I guess. I guess we can. So in three years, you finally get to the part of the trial that's where you were supposed to have started, which is let's talk about the issue at hand. And I understand why you have to do that. Or it wouldn't be fair if you weren't abiding by statute of limitations and timelines and and false claims. So I I understand the point of it. Uh it just, it's gotta be a little, a little bit peeving to be that situation and say it's been three years since I started this whole thing, and finally they said we can actually start the whole thing where we were supposed to from the outset. And so hopefully this will go uh in a good in a good direction. Um, I I really don't fathom how the lower courts, both the the trial court and the appeals court, ever ruled the way they did. I I think that's again a very clear case of this sort of activist judge mentality where maybe you're pro-transgender, pro-medical transitioning, whatever you want to call yourself, and you justify you know whatever decisions you make, even if they're not based in real legal tenets. But this is insane. It is it is very obvious that the actual harm, this isn't something that you even need to you need to be a lawyer to understand, much less someone serving at the Supreme Court level. This should be very clear from any any lawyer at all, or even someone who's not a lawyer, hey, when did the harm occur? Okay, at the moment of surgery, that's when the harm was realized. Okay, so that's the actual injury that you're suing over. Was there a letter before that that contributed to the allowance of this? Yes. Should that be accepted as evidence? Yes. Should that prove the liability of who you're suing? Yes. But was that letter itself, in and of itself, a harm? No. Not detached from the actual surgery itself. And so the surgery itself is that lynch point. It's that it's that moment of harm. And everything else that came before that is just evidence of how the harm was allowed to occur. But the harm itself, where of course the two-year limitation would start, was the moment of surgery, which again was in June, not in February. And so again, the whole the whole thing was a mess. I can't imagine why it possibly took us three years. I I understand that probably either way there would have been an appeal. Right? Let's be honest. Even if she had won at the trial court, then then instead the organization would have sued the appeals court and supreme court. Either way, that's where you were gonna end up. Uh, I just can't fathom how both the trial court and the appeals court ruled so horrendously. Regardless of that, all of that part, because we've already talked about it, there is a real and fundamental reality that we have, let's be honest, we have allowed some very serious evil to occur in our country. You know, I was talking earlier on the show about how great a country America is, and how, of course, when we teach history, we look back at some of the evils that have been perpetrated in our country, right? Man stealing, chattel slavery, right? Not good. We look back and we can say, yeah, that was evil. That that was that was a sin that the country societally committed. Now, I think it's blown out of proportion a bit. All of this is irrelevant to the actual claim. Right. We don't need to get into the the hysterics of understanding how slavery existed to say that it did and that that's evil, right? And so that's true. We've always had sins, as every country ever, because we live in a fallen world where sin exists, every country has and will continue to, in one way or another, have sins they struggle with. That's undeniable. Right now, for instance, the whole LGBTQ thing in general is a sin that one day, if we win, will likely be taught in history books as a period of grave moral evil. How about abortion? The largest genocide in world history being done by killing children before they're ever born, right? We can look at that and we can very clearly state and tell that that is going to be a sin by which we'll have to teach in the future as a grave systemic injustice that occurred at the hands of our government and medical communities as a justification for the murder of the unborn, right? These are all sins that we're still grappling with. One of those is transgenderism. Right. And transgenderism is the ultimate fruit of the sexual revolution. Right. I I've said this before. You can draw distinct lines in history between events. It's very, it's very fun to do. To look back at history, usually you don't like it, it's not nearly as fun to do when it's something that's evil. You gotta know it and you gotta learn it as same as everything else. But it's kind of sad to see where everything started and how we could have just nipped things in the bud before they were ever really nearly the issue they are today. That's certainly true of the LGBTQ civil rights problem. You can draw all of the lines back a very long time. And this is why, whenever if you guys have ever watched an LGBTQ activist debate anything, one of the very first claims they make is well, don't you understand that transgenders or cross dressers or homosexuals have existed for a very, very long time. That that so many societies across the globe have committed these, have done these things. Therefore, that that gives them legitimacy. You've probably heard that. I mean, you can watch even recent debates with with I I think it was Michael Knowles that was out at an event and you had a a pro LGBT activist who said, Hey, what about the two-spirit people in Native American culture? And of course, there's a level of you should debate and say that's not what they meant. But even if it was, as Michael Knowles has summed up, as I've said countless times, it having happened doesn't make it good. You look at those same populations, they quote unquote had two spirit, they also were cannibals. They also viciously slaughtered women and children, and they also committed child sacrifice. Pardon me if I don't think they're who we should listen to for what's good just because they had things. They had they had transgender people. Yeah, they they also had cannibalism. Do you d is that something that you want? Well, no, but cannibalism is wrong. Right, so is transgenderism, right? So we're we're now back to square one, and your historical relevance is, as it turns out, not relevant. And so, yeah, this is not new. I'm not gonna contend, though the way we're doing it is new, right? We've we've allowed our innovation technologically and medically to allow us to create a more appalling version of it, right? Before your your average transgender that may have had some level of dysphoria about their gender would just dress up in the attire of the opposing gender. Now we can cut off their genitals. Things are obviously worse. We can get skin graphs and make fake appendages. Obviously, that's a bigger detriment. It's it should be very obvious that that is a new level of horror on the global stage of these sorts of sins. But again, you can trace that line all the way back to again a lot of the feminism that came out of the 20th century. You can look and you can say, hey, the end goal of convincing women and men that they're ultimately really the same, that there's nothing really different about them other than they look, that you guys are kind of the same thing, really. That sort of what they claimed as being equal, equal rights, right? All of that was inevitably going to lead to a breakdown of basic traditional structure. That's just how it's going to go. Because once you you wholesale reject God's order for men and for women, and you ignore what God made us with, and you ignore why God made us with special things and special abilities and and specific ways of thought and of procedure, once you deny that that exists, it it may take 50 years, but you are inevitably going to get to the point where you say, well, if there's no real differences, then can't I just be the other? And that jump is actually a lot smaller than the first rejection. Really, the first, the biggest hurdle you have is to convince a culture that is believed for, again, thousands of years. If you look at European and Western history, thousands of years we believed that men and women, while having equal value in the eyes of God, are not equal. Because of course, we have differences, observable biological, physiological, and psychological differences that make us good at certain things and bad at others. That we we we do in many ways, those things complement one another, that they are beneficial for each other. And the reality is when you deny that and you start trying to say, well, no, they're the same, that convincing that culture of that is a much harder step than saying, well, now that you think you're the same, what if that guy feels more like a feminine? Is he allowed to become a man? Well, sure, why not? If we have the medical technology, especially to do it, right? Nowadays we actually have a better justification because, well, at least they really can.

unknown

Right?

SPEAKER_08

If the only differences are the fact that I have certain appendages you don't have, then well, can you just put my appendage on and be me? And I think that's a much easier pill to swallow than the original claim of feminism. And the original claim that there are no differences between men and women. I think that's a much harder pill to swallow coming off of our culture. And so, anyways, all of this to say these things have to be ended, right? We need more than just medical malpractice lawsuits, we need more than just compensation back to the victims, and they are victims. We need to go so many steps beyond that. We have to start saying, hey, actually, transgenderism as a concept. Not even not even just that that we talk about as a concept, the entirety of transgenderism needs to be said that it is evil, gross, perverted, and impossibly not true. That it is it is so beyond the realm of possibility that it it can't exist. And then from there we can start kind of turning back the tide on a lot of the feminist mindset that has come out since really the Industrial Revolution, but a lot of it sped up in the last 50 to 60 years. But step one is at least getting the bare minimum and saying, hey, you know what? Like men actually physically cannot be women. And then from there saying, because they're different, and therefore because they're different, they have specific roles and specific things that God has called them to do. Right. And then we can get back to that. But we have to start by saying, hey, you know what? Maybe it's not good to cut your appendage off. Maybe maybe it's not good that you become something that you're not and you look like an amalgamation of monsters. Maybe that's bad. Maybe that's not a good moral thing when I mean it's just it's so gross. And I think we need to start standing up and saying it. But with that being said, we're gonna get back into accountability a little bit. We talked a little bit about accountability with that one because, of course, the compensation from these abusers, which is what they are, the medical community at large in these sorts of cases. We have another case not related, but but also a case of abuse and how we need accountability

Montgomery County Abuse Allegations And Due Process

SPEAKER_08

back. A man who was tied to these ministries in Montgomery County has now been arrested and extradited to Texas on child indecency charges. Investigators say the suspect worked with youth groups, and the sheriff's office is now asking others with information to reach out and to contact detectives. The Montgomery County Sheriff's Office is asking anyone with information to contact investigators as they continue probing allegations of sexual abuse involving a man that authorities say had ties to multiple religious ministries in Montgomery County and worked with youth-related groups. Deputies are called after a report of indecency with a child back in May. They say three adult women later described alleged abuse that stretched back years with claims dating to the 1990s. Investigators identified the suspect as 65-year-old Leland Fleming. Detectives with the Sheriff's Office Special Victims Unit said their investigation found Fleming had participated in various religious ministries across Montgomery County, and it worked with children's choirs and homeschool groups. An arrest warrant was issued at the end of May, May 28th, for indecency with the child. He was located in Madison County, Arkansas, and has now been taken into custody with help from local authorities and extradited on June 25th back to Montgomery County and is being held in the Montgomery County jail without bond. He faces two counts of indecency with the child. The case remains active because of his reported involvement with youth related organizations. The Sheriff's Office has urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office. Let them know if you saw anything, if you were a part of anything, if maybe your child went through something and you just kind of let it go. Whatever the case may be, you know how it goes. But I think this brings up very as always, with almost any sort of crime, but especially these, it brings up two different conversations. And the prerequisite for both is obviously an understanding that in America we have due process for a reason. I always like to highlight that because I think people, especially under this sort of mob frustration, we can be very quick to demand justice. And then we forget that justice requires the protection of the innocent. And if it turns out that these claims are untrue or unverifiable or whatever the case may be, then this man is innocent until proven guilty. And so, of course, we need to have due process. That is step number one. Both conversations are sort of the same thing, but in two different directions.

What Justice Means And Why It Matters

SPEAKER_08

When you discuss justice, and this is why I think it's very important to define justice justice is more than punishing bad people. I understand that that's often how it looks visibly when you have j when you say that we need justice, it looks like punishing evil people. But justice is actually a two-pronged concept. It is the punishment of the wicked and the protection of the innocent. It's both of those things. Right? That's that's a requirement. You can have punishment of the wicked in a just sense, but you also give me an example of this. One form of justice is the defense of your rights, right? The Second Amendment is itself a form of justice. The right to defend yourself, to defend innocence, to defend your innocent family is just. It is a form of justice that you're called to do. And in order to do that, you need the right to do so. Hence why you should become a member of our sponsor, Gun Owners of America. Gun Owners of America understands wholeheartedly that the Second Amendment is just, that it is importantly defensible. And they devote all of their time and all of their resources to that defense. That means that they are campaigning right now for candidates for office coming to the general election who are actually going to stand by and defend your rights. It also means that when those people get in, they're held accountable, and everybody else is held accountable, and that we can lobby for good bills that will continue to support your rights and make sure that those bills that would violate your rights further are struck from the record. They're taken down, they're not allowed to be voted on. Furthermore, they also are willing to go the extra mile that we it's not really extra. This is what you have to do. And they're willing to sue. Take it to court. If there's if there's something out there, if there's a law or an ordinance or an executive order or whatever it may be, that violates your God-given rights, they are in the front lines making sure that that is sued, making sure that it is struck down through the court system. And so if you'd like to become a member and contribute to that fight, you can go to GOAHuston.com. It's a $25 annual membership, which goes right back to the continued fight for gun owners of America. Again, that is G-Oahuston.com. Now, that two-pronged approach, I really want to just for a second describe what I mean. If it's turned out that he is proven guilty in a court of law, that means two different things. It means that punishment is very important. Justice is very important, right? In the sense that we have to punish the wicked. That's but that's only half of justice. The other side of that is the protection of the innocent. And of course, to a degree, the punishment of the wicked is a protection of the innocent, right? We talked before about how having stricter punishments inevitably is, right, to a degree very preventative. If you find out that the crime you commit has very serious repercussions, you're less likely to commit that crime. We all understand that that's a basic logical principle of risk and reward of discipline versus non-discipline. We all we all understand that. But even further, this is the importance of having tight-knit church communities. Let's be honest, I we hear stories like this, and I don't want to say all the time, it's much more common in the school system than it is, say, in a church, but we do know this is happening. This is why I've been for a long time saying that mega churches are very dangerous. When people don't know each other and there's not a sense of tight-knit community, it gets very dangerous. The local church was always supposed to be a place where everyone knew each other well. Where it was like a family. And it wasn't just a family reunion of all the third cousins you've never seen. It was supposed to be a close, familial relationship that you had with members of your church. And I'm not saying that that means that mega churches are inherently evil by nature of being big, but I am saying there's a lot of danger in that.

unknown

Right?

SPEAKER_08

You look at a small church, and we're not saying that it's impossible for someone to be bad, but you look at a small church and it's going to get found out very quickly. It's going to be known, and everyone's gonna know who did what and why, like that that will be inevitable because you have a tight-knit community of people who are all watching, who are all paying attention to one another. That's very important. And so, I mean, I don't want to go too much into that and and and what have you, but I do want to highlight that we need to do a better job as a culture, as a society, and as a people, watching out for each other, viewing ourselves as countrymen, right? Not in the Joe Biden sense of, well, your kids are all our kids, which means that we all have rights to them. No, not not some weird, creepy weird thing like that. But in the sense that to a degree we all have a reasonable societal expectance of proper order, and that means that we're all paying attention. It means we're all willing to defend each other, means we're all willing to stand with one another and to make sure that our country can get safer again. And so, with that being said, when we get back from the break, we're gonna jump over. And speaking of guns, since we just did the Gun Owners of America read, I'm very excited for this next story because it goes right back into that. The Fifth Circuit has now ruled uh something. I'm gonna tease it. You can decide. You can hear it probably by my donut voice, and maybe it's not a bad thing. Uh, maybe this is a positive. This circuit has now ruled uh that something is protected by the Second Amendment. Now, despite the ruling, federal restrictions on these things remain in place. We'll have to see where how we get these things back in circulation more prevalently. But at least the courts are now on our side largely on this issue. We'll talk about what this is when we get back from the break. If you would like to text in, the number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and Lord will be right back in the next segment. So hang tight. We'll talk soon.

Fifth Circuit: Suppressors Covered By Second Amendment

SPEAKER_08

Now, most firearms are regulated under general gun laws, but suppressors, like machine guns, fall under the National Firearms Act, stricter registration system requiring a lengthy approval process and fees. The case, which is United States v. Como was decided by the Federal Appeals Court last week. According to court filings, Brennan Como, a Louisiana man, was charged Louisiana man, was charged with possession of an unregistered suppressor, but argued that suppressors are protected by the Second Amendment. The Fifth Circuit agreed on that point, noting that suppressors facilitate self-defense and make firearms safer and more effective. However, the court affirmed Como's conviction because existing Fifth Circuit president treats the NFA's registration process as presumptively constitutional. Unless that premise specifically is challenged and overcome, the federal laws regulating suppressors will remain in place. Two of the three judges, the decided to Como case, argued in a concurring opinion that the Peterson ruling, which is the ruling that determined that the laws, the federal legislation, the National Firearms Act, is fine in the first place, that those should be revisited. In the past, Texas has tried to exempt Texas made suppressors from federal regulation. The 2021 made in Texas law declares that suppressors manufactured and retained within Texas are not subject to federal regulation or registration requirements. Now, despite that, the DOJ has continued to enforce the NFA in Texas, including raiding and seizing suppressors and other property. For example, even some from a Fort Worth hunting expo. And so Texas Gun Rights President Chris McNutt said the fact that Washington, D.C. regulates them like machine guns is absolutely absurd. The Fifth Circuit is right that suppressors are protected arms. Now the courts and DOJ need to stop letting the NFA turn peaceable Americans into criminals. And I agree all heartily on that point. I mean, it's it is kind of absurd that we're throwing suppressors in a category of these exempted items that somehow are just so super dangerous that you have to pay money through an approval process to get them. If they're so dangerous, why does anyone get them? That's why it's kind of the same thing they say about speeding. If the if the punishment for speeding is is literally just a fine, then is is it not that that's only really a punishment for people that don't have a lot of money? Like if you're super rich and you get pulled over, really the biggest thing is just that it took time to pull you over. If it's like if you're if you're making, you know, $10 million a year, they say that's uh that's a ticket, you're gonna get $200, you're gonna have to pay. Okay. Whatever, dude. I want to speed, so it is what it is. But if you make, you know, $20,000 a year, well, now $200, that's that's a pretty sizable amount of your income after tax. And so anyways, all this to say it is pretty wild that if we're going to violate people's rights by being willing to arrest them, right, and get a conviction against them uh because they didn't follow the rules, but the rules are things that directly infringe on your right in the first place. Now that it's especially that you've now visited that and said, no, this is part of the Second Amendment, we need a court case to go in. Somebody's gotta do it. Somebody needs to. You know what we need to do? I'm not encouraging disobedience to the law. I'm not I'm not justifying civil disobedience. I'm just saying somebody out there should have a suppressor, get raided, and then take it to court to revisit the Peterson ruling specifically, now that you have the Fifth Circuit, affirming that you have a right to that item. So that would be fun. I'm not gonna Do it, somebody should do it. That being said, we get back from the break to wrap up the show this morning. We're gonna talk about a uh uh Friendswood this guy from Friendswood who has apparently survived a shark attack in the Bahamas. And it's actually a pretty wild story of of heroic nature that I want to kind of wrap up the show with some with some good news, even though um you know the healing browser is gonna take a while and it's not great. You'll you'll hear and understand as we go into the actual story how this really is a tale of heroism, and we need that, especially today. If you'd like to text in, again, that number is 713-779-5978. That's 713-779-KYST. You are listening to the Lone Star Conservative. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. Shark Attack Survival And Brotherly Heroism

SPEAKER_08

His name was Parker Roll. He was swimming with his older brother, Jack, during a family excursion when the attack happened. The family had spent the day visiting several islands, including stops where they swam with pigs, fetiguanas, interacted with nurse sharks, all those sorts of things. Their final stop was a secluded beach with crystal clear water. Jack, the older brother, said that he and Parker swim across a shallow bay to explore another part of the island while the rest of their family followed behind. Jack recalled, We see this big, beautiful crystal bay, so we start swimming. The brothers eventually reached a canal lined with mangroves. Parker said he noticed what looked like a large shark in the water moments before the attack. I called out to him, I said, Look at this rock, it looks like a humongous shark. Jack initially believed that the shark was harmless. He said it gets two or three feet away from me. I th I I thought that it was just a nurse shark. But seconds later he said, I hear this ear-piercing scream, and the clearest blue water turned to the murkiest red. Parker said that adrenaline helped him make it to shore before the pain set in. After that, it started to hit in. I looked down and I could see my bone. It felt like a knife stabbing over and over and twisting. The shark, of course, trying to maul this child. But his older brother stepped into action, he picked up his younger brother, removed his swimsuit, tied tightly around Parker's badly injured leg to slow the bleeding, while shouting for everyone else to get out of the water. He said it was maybe four feet on either side of just murky red water. It was horrifying. Another member of the excursion group helped scare the shark away while the boat crew rushed over with a first aid kit. Getting Barker back to the boat also was difficult. The brothers had explored to the far side of the island, forcing rescuers to carry him around the shoreline. Um then they faced another challenge. Uh they were 60 miles offshore with no cell phone or radio service. And so they they had they took 45 minutes of getting closer before they could contact any sort of emergency responders. He was taken to a hospital. Um and so they also said that the bleeding probably would have been fatal had it not been stopped by his older brother. So two lessons in this. One, if you're gonna go swimming and you're 12, make sure you take your older brother with you if you have one. And more importantly, we need young men that are heroes again. Right? We've we I I love stories like this, especially coming out of places like Friendswood, right? It may have been down in the Hamas, these are Friendswood boys. Because it highlights yet again the need for grit. I I mean, this is a lifelong story. You got attacked by a shark. Now that you're okay and you're gonna be all right. I mean, what a story, man. And what a story of the older brother, too. What a cool story. That'll do for the show today. Lord willing to be back bright and early tomorrow at 6 a.m. In the meantime, ladies and gentlemen, you've been listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Enjoy the rest of your Monday and Godspeed.
