Texas Ends Tuition Breaks For Illegal Aliens
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Texas finally ends in-state tuition perks for illegal aliens, but the part that sticks in our throat is how it happened: not through bold state lawmaking, but through a federal court fight that Texas effectively chose not to fight. We walk through the history of the Texas Dream Act, why it created a backwards incentive structure, and why it should never take Washington to rescue Texans from bad Texas policy.
Then we turn to Houston and the fatal ICE shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. We sort through what protesters are demanding, why the mayor and police chief say the “facts have changed,” and why basic transparency tools like body cams, dash cams, and clear markings matter for both accountability and public trust. We can support immigration enforcement and still demand clean procedures that hold up under scrutiny.
From there we widen the lens to legal immigration and birthright citizenship incentives, including Rep. Chip Roy’s call to reassess current immigration levels based on wages, housing affordability, schools, and cultural assimilation. We also hit key Texas updates: Lena Hidalgo scaling back after a mono diagnosis, Eagle Pass pushing back on buoy barrier staging at Shelby Park, and Aaron Reitz taking the oath as US attorney for the Southern District of Texas.

Reset After Audio Trouble
SPEAKER_04Juscita Luther, the voice of reason, just the conservative Michael Wilson.
SPEAKER_08Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. You might think to yourself, Michael, didn't we just have the launch of the show? Didn't we just start? And now we're playing the intro music. I felt like here's what I'll I'll tell you what happened. I don't actually know what happened. I just know that audio went out and now audio's back. But I'll tell you why I decided to redo the intro music. The main reason is because I felt like we couldn't start off the week. We couldn't start off not only the day, we certainly couldn't start off the week with uh, you know, cutting out in the in the first in the first two minutes of the show. I felt like we just needed a whole new show. We just scratched whatever was happening in the last show, whatever we're gonna talk about, that's gone. That's over. We'll do a whole whole new show starting now. That's completely different. See if that works a little bit better. I'm kidding, I just wanted to start over. But the reality is I I was I was just talking about time, because we're now in you know mid-July, and it is a good reminder that your time is very limited, and it's also a good reminder that God has called us to be good stewards. And I use the the good stewards point often to talk about environmentalism, because of course we're to be good stewards, that includes being good stewards of the earth and of its resources, but it also means to be a good steward of your time. Because God has called us to do a lot of things. God wants us to be very busy, he's called us to do many things in our lives, and all for his glory. And there are a lot of opportunities that we'd let fall by the wayside to do the will of God because we're not paying attention, because we think that life is moving too fast, or because I I mean, any reason we come up with to justify why we're not doing the things that God has called us to do. And we all do it. I'm not I'm not not guilty of it. I'm obviously guilty of it, but seeing the calendar this morning on July 13th of 2026 was one of those, one of those days where you just it just clicks for you. You just realize very quickly, oh, you know what? It turns out time is moving very quickly. And I'm not doing all the things that I want to be doing. And I don't I'm not doing everything that I feel like God has called me to. And I feel like I could be doing more. And it's just one of those days, but it's it's a reminder for everybody that's listening. Hey, time moves really fast. If you don't slow down every once in a while, you might miss it. So uh that was a little Ferris Bueller in there, but it was mo it was it was also a little me. We kind of changed it a little bit. Now I want to kick off the show this morning.
Stewardship Of Time And Calling
SPEAKER_08Talking a little bit about the importance of of legislating well. Uh and we're gonna we're gonna highlight that specifically with this story we have on the the in-state tuition for illegals. You guys might remember this this whole background debacle that happened. Uh this all
Court Ends In-State Tuition For Illegals
SPEAKER_08started back in 2001. That was when the Texas Dream Act was enacted. This is 25 years ago, uh, which granted illegal aliens in-state tuition benefits. And I I don't know what was going on in 2001 that we said, you know what would be great. You know what would you know what would make Texas better if those who were here illegally got to go to college for free, or got to get cheaper rates, or got to get better scholarships, whatever number of things that were subsidized, that would be better. I don't know what the argument was. I wasn't around, but I can tell you, it wasn't good. Whatever it was, it was a bad argument because this is an evil program. Nevertheless, that happened. Twenty-five years later, I guess twenty-four years later, you know, get to a point where people are really fed up. I think it was probably pretty I think it was probably pretty quick if I had to guess people were fed up. Uh but twenty, you know, twenty or so odd years later, people were really fed up. And they were demanding, hey, this is not good. Uh not only should we not be handing out in-state tuition to to illegals, we shouldn't even be allowing them access to the schools. They they shouldn't be getting it not should they not get special rates, but they shouldn't even be allowed to enter the school. This is an American school. You have to be American to be here. This is our this is our this is our educational facility. This is reserved with American professors and with American curriculum and and and you don't get to just attend. You don't just get to take slots away because they fill up. They have a certain amount of of rates of people that they approved to attend college. We'll get into the commentary. I want to read what actually happened because there's been an update on it. The reason I bring it up is because there's been an update. A federal appellate court has now upheld an agreement between Texas and the Trump administration ending in-state tuition for illegal aliens in compliance with federal law. The Texas Dream Act, which I said was founded back uh started back in 2001, formally allowed qualifying illegal alien students to pay in-state tuition rather than pay the out-of-state tuition rates at public colleges and universities. Now, in June of 2025, so this would be just last this just last month, the U.S. Department of Justice sued the state of Texas, or last last month, but a year ago, sued the state of Texas, arguing that federal law preempted the Texas Dream Act. Now, that shouldn't have had to happen because Texas law should have been very clear and it should have happened legislatively. And I I acknowledge that. I wish that it had happened legislatively. Uh, but our legislative body did not do that, and so it went to the court side. And so the East Department of Justice sued. According to the lawsuit, federal law preempts any state rules that grant illegal aliens benefits not afforded to all U.S. citizens. The Texas Dream Act did this because U.S. citizens from outside the state were forced to pay higher rates than the qualifying aliens. So you have a college in Texas and you're coming from Oklahoma, you have to pay more to get educated than someone who's illegally residing in the state of Texas. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton ultimately agreed with the DOJ, basically said, I'm not going to fight at all. You can win. I don't care. And they won the case outright. However, two advocacy groups, that was a community college and a student, sought to intervene in that, hoping that the Texas Dream Act could be reinstated. The District Court denied the intervention on the grounds that the statute was clearly preempted by the federal law, making any subs such attempts kind of futile, kind of meaningless. There's no there's no sense in even trying. But the decision was appealed nonetheless to the U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans. And so just late last week, the Fifth Circuit agreed with the District Court in a two-to-one decision, concluding that the contentions were ultimately meritless. Quote, we affirm the denial of the motions to intervene and dismiss the remaining claims for want of appellate jurisdiction. Now, because the Fifth Circuit's jurisdiction covers it of Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi, that decision has now clarified federal law in Louisiana and Mississippi as well. So if they had any issues or any concerns with granting instate tuition to illegal aliens in Louisiana or Mississippi, it's not going to happen. Of course, Governor Greg, Abbott that went on social media, he said Texas and the Trump DOJ just secured another major victory for the rule of law. The Fifth Circuit upheld the end of instate tuition for illegal immigrants in Texas. I just, again, I just wish the biggest thing that I wish had happened is that we had focused and that we had done it through our own legislation. We are the state of Texas, we have a lot of sovereignty. Why did we not fix this on our own? This should be an easy thing to fix. This shouldn't even be a controversial argument. If I'm being honest, this is one of those arguments that you hear that, you know, because I make a lot of arguments that are controversial even for the Republicans. I make a lot of arguments that sound radical even by general Republican standards. And I'm aware of that. And I'm I'm honest about it. And I think it's important that we speak the truth. And sometimes it's going to be radical in an age where everyone seems to want to lie. Speaking the truth has become radical. And so am I a radical? Sure. I'm a fringe. I'm an outsider. For sure. 100%. I acknowledge that. I'm aware. But this isn't even one of those. This is one of those arguments that should not be controversial for Republicans. Should we be subsidizing illegals to get special tuition rates? Right? It shouldn't even be controversial to say that illegals shouldn't even be allowed to attend the college. That should be reserved for those who are in the U.S. legally. Now, this is a victory, right? It is. I'm not gonna, you know, sit around and say all day this is bad and not good and we should have done it. We should have done it legislatively for sure. But this is still a major win. And the fact that it has now been upheld in a federal appellate court is a major win as well. But it also is an indictment. I and I think that's really important because it's not just that we didn't pass the legislation, you know, uh, you know, last year. That's not the only problem. It's that for more than two decades, the state of Texas has maintained this system. For more than two decades, uh we've we've maintained a system in which American citizen from from Louisiana or from Arkansas, from anywhere, anywhere in the country, it doesn't really matter if they're even close, they can come from anywhere, and they're being charged more tuition rates. They're they're being charged higher tuition rates while someone that was that is in this country illegally, that literally shouldn't even be here, can qualify not only to get in, but for a discounted rate. Right? The American citizen who has obeyed the law, who belongs to the community, who is a part of our culture, who who is a part of our country, who is an American, who who funds the federal government, who defends this country, all these things that citizen is behind in the line, behind someone who broke into the country. That's that's the setup. That's what we've done. And again, that's that's the left always wants to say it's compassion. That is not compassion. That's not what that looks like. That is that is it is government-sponsored discrimination against American citizens. That is exactly what that is. It is it is sponsored by the state government to be discriminatory in the line against American citizens and for those who broke in. Right? The Fifth Circuit, of course, has now rejected that effort, which is good, right? Texas public colleges are institutions of the state of Texas, their first obligation should be to Texans and then to our fellow Americans, not to people who are residing in this country in violation of federal immigration law. Right. And again, I don't want us to overlook the main lesson that I the main takeaway that I have for this, that I've already said, and I'm gonna say it again. It should never have required the federal government to rescue Texas from bad Texas law. We should not have had to have been rescued the way that we were. We should not have had to let it go to court and then throw the fight, right? That shouldn't have had to happen. We should have already done it. We should have already won. It should have been a non-issue. It should never have been passed in the first place. 2001 is already a massive indictment on the state of Texas, right? Twenty, twenty-five years ago, when we decided to pass this into law in the first place. Absolute insanity. Absolutely crazy that we did that. But but then 25 years later, we still haven't ended it, except for the fact that the the you know federal government said, fine, fine, if you're not gonna do it, we gave you another opportunity, last legislative session, but you don't seem interested in preserving our institutions for Americans, then I guess we're gonna have to take it to court. And of course, our governor, our attorney general wanted it done legislatively, but it didn't happen. And so that was a phenomenal opportunity, right, for us to, I don't say rig the system, it's not a rigging if you agree. If the state of Texas concurs. And so it went through the courts to decide that our law was bad. But again, we shouldn't have had to do that, right? The policy was not being imposed by California or New York or bureaucrats up in some random state, right? It was it was the Texas legislature that enacted that law. And it was it was Texas politicians year over year who were preserving it session after session when they had opportunities to go back and say, no, actually, we do care about Texans and Americans first. They didn't do that. They said, no, actually, our first priority is actually those who broke in and are stealing opportunities from our own people. Because I highlighted we have a limited number of slots to college. I I don't I don't know that I've heard of a college who takes in maybe that maybe there's some online colleges that have really bad reviews that take in every person who applies. That's very rare. Almost no colleges take in everyone, even the easier colleges don't take everyone. There are a limited number of slots, right? The rate is is not 100% for those that get in. A lot of colleges have a very small rate between 10 and 30 percent. And so when you see those schools, they'd come out and say, Well, not only are we gonna take one of those slots that again should be reserved for Americans and give them away to somebody else. Give them away to someone that's not that doesn't belong here. Give them away to someone that's not a citizen of our country, that's not our kinsman and our countrymen. Not only are we gonna do that, but then we're gonna say, and we're gonna give them cheaper rates than you. I it it really, it really is insane. And so this is I mean, this is another reminder of why it's very important that in the city of Texas, we don't get comfortable with Republican leadership. I know it's easy. I know that it's fun to elect Republicans. I know that it is beneficial, right? If you think that in state tuition for illegals is bad, wait till you elect James Talarico, right? We all understand that regardless of regardless of of the fact that we have some bad policy that comes out of Republicans, we know that things could be worse. We do understand that it is still important, regardless of whether they're the best conservative Republicans or not, that we elect Republicans up and down the ballot in November. We understand that. We understand the danger of electing Democrats, even if Republicans aren't acting like we'd like them to act in every case. Right? So I'm not coming out and I'm I'm trying to counter signal Republicans. I'm not doing that. We still should elect Republicans all the way down the ballot, regardless of how moderate they are, because by comparison, the Democrats are going to be absolutely insane.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_08Texas in-state tuition for illegals is going to be the very lowest on the concern list if you have a Democrat take over the state of Texas. Things can get much worse, I promise you. But that doesn't mean that we shouldn't hold our Republican elected officials accountable to what they should do. It doesn't mean that we lower our standards and say, well, I really don't want the Democrat, so I guess I'll just go with this Republican, and then when he does all the things, I guess it is what it is. No. No, we've had it's not like this was passed last session, and now we're one session later and we don't really have a lot of time to make up. This was this was 25 years. By the time we had the legislative session, it was 20, it was 24 years by the time we got to the legislative session where they could have ended it. 24 years. You had 24 years for politicians to to get their minds in order and to do what God has called them to do, to do what the people have called them to do. And they wouldn't do it. And so I know it is very easy to be excited when you have red waves. It is very easy to be excited when you have Republican leadership. All right, and we're very blessed in Texas because not only do we have, at this point at least, pre-midters, not only do we have federal representation that's being run by Republicans, but we have state re you know, we have we have state regulations being run by Republicans. All the way down the board, we're run by by the right. And yet we look around and we say, then why are why do things look the way they look? Because the Republicans have gotten so comfortable just being moderate, just basically doing nothing, not doing their job at all. They have gotten incredibly comfortable just sitting on their hands and refusing to act. And you can you know why, right? Because complacency is easy. Laziness is very easy. Doing nothing is the easy outcome because then you have no combat, then you have no conflict, no one's worried, no one's upset. And the problem is that the reason that they felt like that was a justifiable outcome is because for a very long time the Republican Party, including the grassroots, by the way, has been unwilling to do what needs to be done. Right? And it's been very recent that we finally said, okay, this is enough is enough. We're gonna primary you if you're gonna do things like this. You're going to lose future elections. You're gonna have no career here if you're not willing to do what the people demand. That is what representative government is supposed to look like. Hey, we made a bad choice with you next time you're out. And unfortunately, these career politicians have gotten very good at saying, I know I didn't do anything you wanted me to, but you need to re-elect me. And then people do, right? Of course, this ties back into the need for closed primaries. We should not be allowing Democrats to help elect moderate Republicans for our party candidates, for our nominees. That should not be happening at all. But it also is a reminder to everybody listen, there are a lot of people out there who have an R next to their name who aren't going to represent you well, who aren't going to be conservative, who are going to do what you want them to do. And that means doing well in the primaries, but the primaries are over. What can we do now? It means holding them accountable when they get in and saying, listen, I'm going to call my representative's office and say, you need to pass this. You need to do this. This needs to be a priority. I'm I'm in your district. This is something that I want you to do. This is important. And get some of your friends, some of your neighbors, some of the people at your church to also call and to say the same thing. Because we have the authority in this country. We are a representative republic. That means that any authority that the elected officials, so-called, have, any authority they think they have, is all a representative of the real authority which is vested in the people. That's the way we operate. That's the kind of country that we exist as. That is our form of government. And so the authority is actually on us. We actually make the decisions. We just send somebody to go because there's a lot of decisions and we can't vote for every single one of them. Right? We were talking just a few months ago about how many elections some districts in Harris County had had. It was like eight elections in a one-year time frame. That's a lot of elections. And there's a reason you have low voter turnout because a lot of people don't have time to go to eight elections. But imagine if you had to vote on every bill. We can't do that. So we have representatives that we send to do it for us, to do it as a job. But they are still supposed to represent you. And things like in-state tuition for illegal aliens, and not just in-state tuition, any sort of acceptance into colleges for illegal aliens is insane. That's actually the radical position. It's evil. It discriminates against Americans by nature. That's what it does. It prioritizes other country citizens over our own. And it's completely backwards from what the role of our government is supposed to be. Defending Americans and for Texas state government, defending Texans. That's the priority. Priority number one. Not taking slots away and giving discounted tuition rates to those who shouldn't even be in the country. Now, with that being said, we've got some updates coming out from this shooting case, the case of the ICE shooting with Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. You have some updates uh coming out from protesters and from the Houston Mayor and from the police chief. So we'll we'll get into a lot of that when we get back from the break. As always, if you would like to text into the show and let us know your thoughts. It's a new week. You say, hey, you know, I got something to say, I want something to talk about. I have a question. Houston Protests After ICE Shooting
SPEAKER_08on July 13th, starting it off, protesters gathered outside Houston City Hall calling for an independent investigation into the death of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo, saying that they do not trust federal authorities to investigate the actions of immigration customs enforcement. The demonstration comes after Houston Mayor John Wittmeyer said the Houston Police Department would review evidence collected by the FBI, father reported inconsistencies between witness accounts and ICE description of the incident. Now protesters were chanting justice for Lorenzo, which again, here's my issue, and this has been my issue the whole time. My issue is not saying, hey, we'd like an independent investigation. I actually don't have a problem calling for that. Even if it doesn't end up working out, you have the right to protest for that. I actually think that might be a rather noble cause to protest for. Calling for an independent investigation so that we keep checks and balances is a good idea, even if I support largely what the government is doing. I'm not gonna sit around and pretend like that's awful. And how dare you call for an independent investigation. No, I've I have no problem with you calling for that. My issue is the the blatant in your face anti-ICE protest that they're doing as a result. Because it would be one thing to come out and say, hey, we would like an independent investigation to find out what really happened. Right? I don't I don't fully trust the federal government. They could lie, I don't know. So I would like an independent investigation. But that's not how this has gone. It's not been that sort of and I I know that we shouldn't expect any level of reasonableness from the left. And so it's not like it's a surprise. It's not in any way that I'm surprised or I'm shocked that this is how they're acting, this is how they're behaving. But it's just another reminder of the sort of political biases that are existent on the left. Rather than say, hey, I don't know what happened and I don't trust the federal government, they're saying, Okay, I don't trust the federal government. So not only could they be lying, but they probably are. And the result is I think that this guy was not given justice, and this was not self-defense, based again on very little to no evidence whatsoever. I think that they just shot him because they wanted to and therefore give us an independent investigation. That's a that's a wild way to look at the world. And I mean it it is absolutely bizarre. Uh that it's so funny because they call us conspiracy theorists. They say you guys are the crazy ones, you and and your conspiracy theories. When I look at the left, it's filled to the brim. It's filled to the brim with conspiracy theories. What are you talking about? Climate change is is one of the most rampant conspiracy theories on the planet. You're telling me that based on things that don't account for population changes that have only existed for a hundred years, uh that that still showcase that there are records that from from the the the early 1900s that we're not breaking that the world is getting hotter? No, there's there's no evidence of that over a large period of time because we don't have a large period of time. We have a hundred years. That's it. And we don't account for any of the population changes or the density. None of that is accounted for. None of the change in the movement in where we put the sensors, none of that is accounted for at all. And then the result is, well, it's getting hotter. No, I don't believe that. So they've conspiracy theorized on that. How about the transgender issue? It is a conspiracy theory to believe that mutilating people is going to make them happier. Which, by the way, even if that were true, it wouldn't justify doing it because it's still evil to do that. It still is insane. The the concept of the thing in general is just not possible. Let me change my my sex. You can't do that. So even if it worked, it wouldn't matter, because you can't do it. But it doesn't. We know that. There have been no significant positive changes to the depression, anxiety, and suicidal ideation rates among transgenders who get surgery. It doesn't help. And so it's this conspiracy theory, you you're taking away healthcare actions for people that really need it. It doesn't help them. You're conspiracy theorizing. And the same thing when it comes to these sorts of ice cases, rather than say, hey, we don't know what happened, we'd like an investigation. We would like someone else to also look into this fairly and equitably. Rather than be reasonable and say that, instead you use it as an opportunity to be anti-immigration enforcement because you hate the thing.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_08And that's the same thing with climate change. It's the same thing with with transgenderism. And all of these things follow the same banner. You are so politically biased that you hate what the right is doing. You hate the truth. And as a result, what you're calling for is not really an investigation. What you're calling for is an end to ICE enforcement. That's what you actually want, and you'll use whatever means possible to get there. That's your goal. That's the insanity of the left. And so the issue that I have, at least, I don't know about other Republicans, the issue that I have is not protests in favor of an independent investigation. I have no problems there. None whatsoever. My issue comes when you're doing it and you're chanting justice for Lorenzo, uh, you guys shot him, right? ICE has shot somebody else, right? All these sorts of taglines and slogans that are very clearly indicative that you don't care about truth. You don't care about finding out what actually happened. Your concern is not, hey, let's find out what went wrong and and see how we can fix it. No, your concern is no, this is just how ICE operates. They shoot people. They're evil men. And then that's it. And we've got to put an end to that. This sort of aggression and and divisiveness is not helping anybody. It's not helping anyone. Especially not when the people that you're demonizing are paid by us to do what the American people demanded they do in the last election. That's not helping anybody. That's not solving any problems at all, other than making everyone dislike each other more. Other than making us on the right have to say, yeah, you're crazy, and then them with a louder voice saying, No, you're crazy, and then it just goes back and forth and back and forth. Rather than saying, hey, I don't mind an independent investigation, not a problem. But how about we acknowledge the truth when it comes out? How about we stop conspiracy theorizing? And how about we we stop with the demonization of hardworking men and women who are on the front lines and are defending you and the rights of Americans? How about we stop? How about we stop with the nonsense? With that being said, we have another update coming out. I kind of mentioned it in passing. Uh, but the Houston mayor is also coming out, as well as the police chief, and they're also amplifying calls for independent investigations. We'll kind of talk about what that update was that came over the weekend when we get back from the break. As always, if you have thoughts as to what we're talking about. If you have thoughts on the ICE situation or on how leftists are dealing with it and what people are saying about it, feel free to let us know your thoughts. I'd love to I'd love to kind of get an ear into what the listeners kind of feel about this. How you guys feel about an independent investigation uh and all these protests. If you want to text in and let me know, the number is 713-779-5978. That is one more time, 713-779-KYST. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative, and Lord willing, I will return with the rush of that update from the mayor and the police chief after this break. So hang tight, we'll be right back.

SPEAKER_08Mayor
Mayor And HPD Push Independent Probe
SPEAKER_08John Whitmeyer provided an update Friday afternoon on the investigation into the fatal shooting of Lorenzo Salgado Araujo. Whitmeyer was joined at a 2 30 P.M. news conference at Houston City Hall by U.S. Representative Sylvia Garcia. Houston Police Chief Noah Diaz, among other local officials, was also in attendance. Whitmeyer said he had met with Salgado Araujo's family and expressed both his condolences and his frustration. He said, Quote, I was chairman of criminal justice in Austin for 30 years, involved in many investigations and oversight reviews of police actions. In those thirty years, which included the tragedy of Sandra Bland, Joe Campus Torres, and I could list many more, none are more egregious than the one that ICE brought to Houston Tuesday morning. Whitmeyer reiterated that the Houston Police Department was not involved in the incident whatsoever. He also says the city has done everything possible to gather information about the shooting and turning it over to the Harris County District Attorney's Office. He said when we learned about it, the FBI had arrived and secured the site. The FBI has all the evidence that would normally go into an HPD or other law enforcement investigation. They have the evidence in this instance, the van, the passengers, the deceased, and they're tightly controlling it. He says they have requested for the information to be shared with HPD. He is also amplifying calls for an independent investigation of the shooting. He said we are publicly stating and are doing we will not rest until we have an independent and thorough investigation. And Garcia said we have to ask ourselves then why did he end up being killed by ICE? According to Congresswoman Garcia, the vehicles being used by ICE during the operation did not have body cams, dash cams, nor any markings, sirens, or lights on them. And so Garcia says from talking to the lawyer representing the three individuals who were detained, they each say there was never an ICAT in front of Salgado Raojo's van. She also says the lawyer told her that the ET needs say they think Salgado Raojo was not in the vehicle when he was shot. She's calling on anyone who was near the site of the shooting when it happened and may have video, pictures, or testimony to share it with the Harris County District Attorney's Office, quote, the smallest thing could be the big break. Meanwhile, Houston Police Chief Jay Noah Diaz said although the Houston Police Department was not involved in the investigation or has any jurisdiction of the investigation, he did send a letter to the DHS Inspector General and the special agent in charge of FBI Houston to let them know that HPD is ready to support their teams in any way they can. He said, We amplify the mayor's request for an inv investigation to be conducted in a timely and thorough manner. Diaz was asked about what had changed because originally when the mayor came out, it didn't seem at all, you know, frustrated and desiring do like greatly to have this sort of independent investigation. He said, Well, the facts have changed. Now we hear because of the Congresswoman's great work that the wrong person was in the van, and perhaps it was the wrong van. So those are concerning, and they should be concerning everybody in the community, everybody that's Texan, everybody who lives in the U.S., those facts weren't available then. So as we move forward, we will continue to listen to the community to ensure that this is getting the adequate attention to ensure the community knows and trusts that someone is looking at this with every single eye available. He said, We're not w settling to wait for an FBI report for all we know could take a year. We want answers. And again, I don't have a problem with trying to get an independent investigation. I don't actually have a problem with that. The issues I have are this it's the most egregious thing that's ever happened. Really? Really? Are you are you sure about that? Because I know that there's a lot of egregious scenarios. I I know that we've had a lot of issues. Let's talk about the egregious scenarios coming out of illegal aliens. Like what's happened up in Dallas, like what happened to Lake and Riley, what happened to Jocelyn Nungare? How about those? Do those count as as pretty egregious, I think? Is that fair to say that those people were in our country illegally and we want them all out? And he may not have been the target of the operation, but you found him. You found it illegal. And now you have competing testimonies between the men in the van and the ice agents. So yeah, we need to find out. And if there's not dash camps, that's a problem. I agree with that. I don't have and I don't have too much pride and too much, you know, Ice where ICE to say, why are there not dash camps? Why are they not being worn body camps? That's not good. That's that's problematic. I don't like that. I want to be able to see, I want there to be able to be held accountable if there is an issue. Or if there's not, for the defense of ice, we need the evidence to say, hey, look, here's the video, here's the proof that we acted in self-defense. That's important, that's crucial. I don't know why we don't have it. But we'll keep you guys updated on all the updates that come out of that case. In the meantime, if you want to text in before our last our last segment of the first hour, the number is 713-779-5978. That is 713-779-KYST. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Stormy Week And Flood Risk
SPEAKER_08Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. You're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Houston's typical mid-July heat is actually not the primary concern this week. Daily showers and thunderstorms will remain the norm across Southeast Texas as deep tropical moisture lingers over the region. The wetter pattern will hold afternoon temperatures a few degrees below where they've been. But it also brings the potential for locally heavy rainfall and flash flooding through the middle of the week. Today is going to bring specifically another active day of scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms across Southeast Texas as tropical moisture combines with several upper level disturbances moving across the region. I'm not saying you should expect rain all day. You should not. Instead, there could be long stranges of dry weather interrupted by slow-moving thunderstorms, capable of producing torrential downpours, frequent lightning, and gusty winds. Storms will become most widespread from late morning through the afternoon as daytime heating and the sea breeze help fuel additional development. That pattern is expected to continue through at least Wednesday. You'll have a much better chance of seeing a shower thunderstorm each day than you have had in recent weeks. Any storms that available again could produce could produce potentially very heavy rainfall over a small area in a short period of time. And so we have that today. I think we're under a level two out of four risk of flooding Monday. That goes down to one out of four Tuesday and Wednesday, though it's still there. And that's going to keep us a little bit cooler. We should reach the middle and upper eighties Monday through Wednesday. So that'll be nice. But that'll do it for our weather report for today. We'll have more for you guys tomorrow. In the meantime, text in 713-779-5978. I'm your host, Michael Wilson. And when we get back, we're going to talk all about Chip Roy, talk about tightening immigration law. So stick around, and we'll talk soon.

Debating Climate Change Claims
SPEAKER_08Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative here on Patriot 920. It is going to be back with you again this fine Monday morning. We just went over the weather report for a quick update because I didn't feel like we had enough time. Just to let you know, it will be potentially very rainy. Maybe not, right? You could you could avoid a lot of them, but it is going to be quite rainy for a lot of people today, tomorrow, and Wednesday. We've got some flash flooding risk. It's also going to keep temperatures a little bit more moderate. Now, you don't really want to be outside, of course, because it's pouring rain, but it should keep temperatures down in the mid to upper eighties instead of the mid to upper nineties. Also, with that being said, you might remember, and I mentioned this before, but the climate change conspiracy theorists, right? The it's getting hotter every day. Every day is warmer than the day before. They don't say that, but that's that's essentially the argument is that we're consistently getting warmer over time. You know, you'd expect, if that were true, that we would have at least had a hundred degree day, considering the average, right? The average is July 19th. You know what? I'm gonna Google right now while we're on air, what is the early, what is the earliest case of a 100 degree day in the Houston area? Or in we'll do in Houston because it's not really fair to do in the Houston area. Let's find out what the earliest case of 100 degree day was. Uh it was in 2011. We hit it on June 2nd. So we're now uh getting close to a month and a half past the earliest from 15 years ago. 15 years, and we've not seen a single change. You'd expect it to be in May at this point. Or maybe June 1st, right? Every 15 years it goes one day earlier, even. No, no, no. It can be months later. That doesn't seem a whole lot to me like massive climate change problems. Maybe I'm maybe I'm the crazy one. Maybe I'm the one that's just not, you know, caught up. But to me, that doesn't sound like something that I'd expect to hear if I'm really worried about the world getting hotter. Um, our average is July 19th, our long-term average. It is now July 13th, and most of this week is relatively safe from 100 degree days. So we're gonna be at least July 16th, 17th, or 18th before we get to a 100 degree day, at least. Assuming we get one this weekend. If we don't, we'll be past the average. It'll be cooler. And so for some reason, uh, they don't want to see years like this, right? They kind of want to pretend like 2026 doesn't happen because it doesn't make their argument look very good. Oh yeah, it wasn't a big deal. Like we, it's just the changing weather patterns, right? That doesn't make my argument any stronger. Right? My argument, because here's the thing, I'm not saying that climate doesn't change. That would be an argument you couldn't really make, because of course the climate changes, changes every day. Changes every year. I I can't look back at two years ago and say, see, we got we got six inches on this day, and this year it didn't rain a single inch. Yeah, but we got rain the week after, and we didn't years ago. Weather patterns change. So some years are gonna be a little warmer, some are gonna be a little bit cooler, some are gonna have hundred degree days kind of early, some are gonna have hundred degrees maybe later. None of that is indicative of this sort of climate change that's being preached to us by the left. And that's the importance, and I always say this, that is the importance of analyzing and reasoning through every argument you hear, even on your side. That's why I leave the text in line open, partially because we've had people who say, hey, I don't know if I agree with you on this. And I want that. I want to be challenged on what I'm saying. I don't want to, you know, sit around like I'm King Michael, then I just know everything about I don't. I I have been wrong numerous times. I'm probably wrong all the time. I'm an imperfect human being that gets things wrong. I do my best to speak the truth. I do my best to get as much right as I can. I in I intentionally try to logically reason through everything that I say and and verify all of it because I don't like to be wrong. Nobody likes to be wrong, but I am. And the reality is that we should be able to challenge things. We should be able to reason through things, and you should do that for every argument you hear. You should say, hey, is this true? Hey, does this align with what we can observe? Hey, does this seem like the most logical outcome given all of the ev given all the evidence that we have? Does this make sense? And when you look at things like climate change, it doesn't make any darn sense. It doesn't. The world is not getting worse, it's not getting hotter, we're not coming up on an extinction level event in the next five years or 10 or 15. None of that. There's no evidence for any of it. It's it's all pure conjecture from the left, all in an attempt, by the way. We know the reason, right? It's very obvious why they would want climate change to be true because it gives the government more authority. We know uh that in cases of of public of threats to public safety, the government gets more power. We're aware of that, right? That's true. That's how it works, right? Militarized states, when there's very large concerns, think about the wake of 9-11. What happened? You got the TSA. Well, now I'm taking my shoes off at the airport for an organization, by the way, that has a massive failure rate. They don't do hardly anything to actually prevent the people that want to hurt people from getting in. They're not very successful at that, but it was a stripping of the liberty that we knew before that at airports, right? You don't have a right to fly without taking your shoes off. So it's not that they stripped us of our essential human rights or our liberties that God has given us, but it's frustrating. But that's what happens when we sacrifice some liberty for public safety. And to a degree you have to, right? You have to sacrifice some. You can't, you can't say, otherwise you're an anarchist, right? You have to acknowledge, yes, I'm willing to sacrifice my liberty to a to a moderate degree, and you have to balance those things well. Right? You have to have police officers that are able and have the authority to pull you over and to ask you to exit your vehicle. That's important if we want to have any level of public safety. But that means that you have to be willing to comply with officer orders, right? That's that's the reality. And so we understand that, but with climate change, we know that the real reason is a destruction of liberty. That's what they want. They want to say, no, you have to drive this kind of car and you have to use this kind of thing, and we want to run this hundred billion dollar project for renewable energy because this stuff's gonna expire, and climate change and all of these claims trying to align together to essentially bully everyone into spending more money into buying things and being forced into decisions they don't want to be forced in, and to ultimate control. Same thing as during COVID. What it was it was a test to find out how much control they could have over the people. And it was a global test. It wasn't just America. All over the world they were doing the same thing. How much control can the government force? Australia is a phenomenal example of this, and I've said this before, you know, when you talk about gun rights, Australia gave away their guns. I don't know if you guys know this. Australia has very limited weaponry to defend themselves, uh, and they don't have a high homicide rate. They're pretty safe, they're a pretty high trust society over in Australia, so they don't have a lot of homicide. Uh, but what happened during COVID to Australia? You had internment camps. You had, hey, you were out past curfew, you're going to the camps. That was happening. That was happening in what is a culturally Western society in Australia. That was going on. They were sending people uh to facilities because they stayed out past curfew. Or instead of there being five people at Thanksgiving, there were seven. You invited a couple extra family members to your Thanksgiving gathering didn't matter. Internment camp time for all of you. It was absolutely insane. But that's the importance of one logically reasoning through every single argument we hear. And furthermore, it also means
Liberty And The Case For Gun Rights
SPEAKER_08the importance of defending our rights.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_08Australia threw them away, threw them in the trash, and they had no way to defend themselves when more rights were taken away. Right? First they came for your guns, then they came for everything else, and you had nothing to stop them with. And that's why here on this show, we're a huge proponent of our sponsor, Gun Owners of America. Here in America, we actually have a saying it says the right to keep bear arms shall not be infringed. We believe that wholeheartedly. And Gun Owners of America is the only true, no compromise gun lobby in the entirety of the United States that that operates the way they operate. And it's a wholesale approach to the conversation. They don't just go in and lobby, though they do that, right? They don't just go in and say, well, we need bills to be passed, so we'll look at some. No, no, no, no, no. It's a fulsale approach. We're gonna campaign for candidates who are actually gonna get into office and defend your rights. We're going to lobby when we're in for good bills and against bad ones that could strip you of your rights. We're also willing to go to court, if necessary, to strip down an unconstitutional ordinance, measure, executive order, or law. That's crucial. And it's why America stays the freest country in the world because we have the ability to hold the government accountable. There are a lot of things the government can't do that they'd really like to do, and they can't do it because there's an armed citizenry. We have something like 380 million guns in the U.S. That's something you can't just grapple with. You can't just take it on. And so it's important that you become a member. To do that, you can go to goahahuston.com. That is goahhouston.com. It is a $25 annual membership, just $25 per year, which goes right back to that continued defense and support of your God-given, constitutionally enshrined Second Amendment rights, which shall not be infringed. That is G-O-Ahouston.com. Now, I want to talk about this story coming out from Chip Roy. U.S.
Chip Roy Urges Legal Immigration Limits
SPEAKER_08Representative Chip Roy wants the Trump administration to crack down on legal immigration after last week's U.S. Supreme, I guess the week before last, two weeks ago now coming up on the U.S. Supreme Court decision, which essentially did away with a presidential executive order uh addressing birthright citizenship. You guys remember what happened where they said, no, actually, the 14th Amendment applies to everyone that's born on American soil. And so if a pregnant woman comes over to the U.S. or she gets pregnant in the U.S. and has a child that's born on American soil, that child is automatically granted citizenship to the United States, who can then sponsor people, bring people over with them, all these sorts of things. And that's a big concern. And so in a letter to the Trump administration, Representative Roy said that while the administration works to secure the nation from illegal immigration, the current level of legal immigration should be reassessed to ensure that the economic opportunities, cultural and so see and social cohesion or security of American citizens is not negatively impacted. Can I say something? I was saying this two years ago and was called a radical for it. And not just by the left, by the way. Because all everybody on the right, including Chip Roy, is going to be called a radical by the by the left. So that's not that's not a badge of honor. It's just natural. It just is what's going to happen. If you believe any sort of Christian standard of truth at all, you're a radical to the left. If you think that capitalism is better than socialism, you're a radical. Right. So we're all radicals, but even by the right, just a couple of years ago, saying, hey, we need to address the fact that modern immigration, legal immigration, is really bad and it's resulting in economic opportunities being given away, which has issues with, you know, housing prices and jobs and college admissions we talked about earlier in the show. I've talked about cultural cohesion frequently. I've used that term because there is a level of that. You need to be aware that when you bring in people from other cultures, they're not going to just automatically adhere to yours. They're going to bring their own with them. And the left celebrates that. And so he expanded expressed concern about increasing pressure on housing, schools, and healthcare services. He wrote that, quote, the American people deserve transparency so we can ensure that our immigration system puts American workers, taxpayers, and communities first. According to Congressman, the U.S. takes in approximately one million legal immigrants each year because of the Immigration Act of 1990. That accounts for roughly 34 million immigrants over the last 35 years. He also explained that more than 10 million non-immigrant visas are issued to visitors, such as guest workers, foreign students, and tourists. In other words, there may be 45 million people in this country who don't align culturally with the American people. Legally here, right? Not just illegally. That doesn't include the tens of millions that are here illegally. So we have maybe, we have maybe, there's an there is a solid argument that we have a hundred million people in this country who don't really care to adhere to the culture of the country that they reside in. He went on to cite an analysis of last year's current population survey by the Center for Immigration Studies, which highlighted legal totals of immigrants total 53.3 million and 15.8% of the total U.S. population in January of 2025. He said understandably, our nation being one of the great opportunities has attracted millions from across the globe for decades. But he emphasized the federal government must set reasonable limits to ensure that American communities are not overwhelmed by immigration that can encourage cheap labor, prevent assimilation, and enable subversive ideologies. In November of last year, Roy also introduced the Pause Act to freeze all immigration until Congress addressed problems of chain migration, birthright citizenship, and H1B visas. The proposed legislation was referred to the House Committee on the Judiciary, where it still awaits further action, just kind of sitting in limbo right now. But again, this is part of the immigration debate that has long been on the fringe. That has long been a conversation that you might hear from a local radio host, but you're not going to hear in the mainstream conversation. That an immigrant can enter this country with the proper paperwork, and still it can be problematic because they're taking a job that an American could have and should have filled. They're competing for housing in a market where young families are already being priced out, driving the average age of a first-time home buyer to 39 years old, placing additional pressure on schools and on hospitals, and making assimilation very difficult by bringing in so many people from the same community at once and from communities that are not culturally assimilatable with ours. They're not culturally synonymous. You're you're you're and I've talked before about the Heart Seller Act. There's a reason because that redefined it in two ways. It was the number and the scope. It was two different mechanisms they used at the same time. No longer were we limited to a very small amount of people coming across into our country and becoming citizens. It's now a very large number, a million every year at least. But on top of that, we said, hey, what if we also don't care about where we get them from anymore? Because it would be racist, right? For you to have standards as to where people are coming from that you want in your country. That would be bad. If you said someone from a country that worshipped cows, that you didn't necessarily think it was best to bring those people in, that maybe the culture is very different, the belief system is very different, and maybe they wouldn't be good for the culture of the country. Well, that's racist. You can't say that. That's what the Heart Seller Act did. It started making anything that was even reasonable at all in regards to immigration racist. And so if you came out and you said, you know, I think that we should have a low number of immigrants, and I think they should be coming from countries that we know will culturally align with ours, so that in 50 years, even with immigration, we still look like the same country. That was the standard. That was the goal of immigration, that we got assistance, but that it was limited so that the American people weren't harmed. That was done away with over the past 60 years. That's been done away with almost entirely. And there were very few people within the last few years who've been willing to really say that, who have been willing to have real conversations and to say, hey, you know what? It's not just illegal immigration that's problematic right now. I understand that we have a lot of national headlines from illegal aliens. And they're a very big problem. And ICE needs to be operating at full capacity, and the CBP need to be operating at full capacity to make sure that our borders are secure, that no one can get across, and that all who came in this country illegally are deported and set back home. That's crucial. That is very important. I'm not denying that. I've been on that train forever. I was on that train before I could vote, you know, when I heard Trump talking about the drug runners and rapists coming across the border. I was all on board. I was a fan at 14, 15 years old. So we're not going to sit around and pretend like I don't think that. But I started saying a couple years ago, I said, you know, the issue is not only the illegals, it's also the legal immigrants. We have a massive problem. When you're bringing in tens of millions of them, and they're from countries that don't love your country, they're from countries that actually hate America and hate American ideologies, that can be really bad for the culture of the country. That can be destructive. When you, when you, in fact, it can even be more destructive because you're telling them that they have a right to be here now. That they're they're as American as you and I. Despite the fact that they hate our country and want to see it destroyed and wiped off the map, despite the fact that they want to completely transform this country into something unrecognizable to an American from a hundred years ago. That's what they want. And when you then say, well, let's, those are, those are what you call invaders that want your country destroyed. How about we give the invaders citizenship is maybe one of the worst ideas a country has ever had. But that was radical. Just a few years ago, that was completely radical. That was considered outside the realm of discussion for most people. And now we're having big name representatives saying, no, actually, that's kind of a good point. Now, actually, it turns out, and I'm not saying any of this to say CI was right, CI told you guys, and now everyone, I'm vindicated. That's not the point at all. I couldn't care less, right? If I I really, I really it doesn't matter. Right? I could have said something else. It doesn't matter to me at all who said it or why they said it. What matters to me is that we transform this country. And I'm just excited because it looks like we're finally getting to a point where maybe we'll have the opportunity to do that. Where it's starting to seem like maybe the mainstream party is recognizing the dangers that people have been highlighting. Maybe they're recognizing, hey, I know there's a problem with illegals, but I think we also have a problem with our legal immigration system, and we've got it, we've got to fix it. Because bringing over a million people from countries that hate us is not tenable. It's not gonna make our country survive. It is going to be destructive. It is going to destroy the foundational values of this country, right? Right? And I've said this before legality does not determine morality, it's the opposite. Our morality should inform our laws. Right? Something being legal doesn't make it good. It doesn't make it positive, it doesn't make it beneficial. The law is in service to morality. And so we don't we don't go backwards and say, well, they're legal, so we're good. Uh no, we should start with, are we good? And then approach, so should they be legal? That should be the direction that we go. We're going back, we're working backwards and then wondering why we're getting the wrong answer. Because you shouldn't work backwards. You start you start with the wrong end and it doesn't, it doesn't work out quite so well. If you eat food, you eat it through your mouth, and then it comes out somewhere, you don't do it backwards. You can't do that. Doesn't work, it does not work very well. And that's what our government has been doing. And for years, many of us have been sounding the alarms and saying, hey, I understand there's a real conversation brewing right now about illegal immigration, about the need for more funding for ICE, about the ability for ICE to do what they need to do unhampered. But there's also a very big problem with the way that our legal immigration system has been running. There is also a very big problem, right? And I've said this, there is no compelling national need right now to import another million permanent residents every year. There's there's absolutely there was never a need, but there's certainly no need now, right? On top of, of course, all the temporary workers and foreign students and dependents and every other visa category there is, we have more than 340 million people, right? We have American workers who need better wages. American students who who need opportunities and families who need affordable homes and communities that deserve cultural stability and to have the same opportunities that Their grandparents had. We want that. So why is the federal government operating under an immigration system that's built around this wild assumption that more is always better? No, no, no. Bigger numbers. Bigger is always why? Immigration should be treated as a privilege belonging to some people, right? That should be what it is. It is a privilege that's being extended by the American people. And it should be extended only when doing so actually serve the interests of the American people. That's the job of immigration is hey, it would benefit us to bring people here. It would be beneficial to our culture, it would be beneficial to our way of life and to our economy. If that stops being true, if if we have so many people here that no longer does immigration serve the interests of the American people, then why do we have it at all? It wouldn't be immoral for us to say, you know what, zero. The number is now zero. Zero immigrants can come over for the next, you know, 30 years, right? And that that wouldn't be evil at all. That would be the job of the federal government saying, hey, how is this serving the American people? That's that's the goal, right? The burden of proof should be reversed.
unknownRight?
SPEAKER_08Washington, D.C. should not be asking, why should we stop this person from coming? They should ask, what benefit does admitting this person provide to the citizens who already live here? How does this benefit the people that we are per we're we are designed to serve? And if the government can't answer that question, then the visa shouldn't be issued. The citizenship paperwork should not go through, right? And of course, this Supreme Court decision, of course, makes that that even more obvious and upfront. Right? Because as long as the federal government is constrained from resolving the abuse of birthright citizenship, every person admitted in the country can create permanent legal and political consequences that extends far beyond the original visa. They get over here on a tourist visa, they have a baby, that baby is now an American citizen, and now they can get, you know, permanent residency here. That that is that is long-term political consequences. And so it's actually even more important now that we're really harping down on the legal, you know, immigration side, because we say, hey, we actually don't want to create a bunch of new citizens that shouldn't be here. That's really, really not good, right? The world now kind of understands that if someone can get onto American soil and have a child here, that child can receive citizenship, access to all the public benefits, and eventually the ability to sponsor additional relatives. We understand that that's how it works, right? Whether someone enters legally, overstays a visa, abuses a refugee sort of asylum claim, whatever the case may be, however they got here, the incentive to get here is extraordinarily high. Because if I can get there and I can give birth, I'm all set. We did it, we made it, right? That that is a vulnerability for our country. And since the Supreme Court is saying there's nothing we can do about that, well then you know what wouldn't violate birthright citizenship if we just don't let anybody come in. The the birthright citizenship ruling would have zero impacts on anybody if we just said no one can come here. Right? And if if no one can come here, then no one's gonna be born here and become citizens. That's boom. Problem solved. Zero immigrants come in. That you you you pushed us into that corner, right? You you set it up so that that's the only real alternative measure here. You put it that way, right? So we now have a standard. No immigrants coming in our country. None. Sorry. It got ruined. It got ruined by people who abused the system, by a government that abused the system, that continue to try to abuse the system, and it's over with, right? A responsible country should not be vulnerable. If we want to have any sort of sovereignty as a nation at all, if we want to be a sovereign country, if we want to be a serious country, you know, we're celebrating the 250th anniversary of the US this year. If we want to stay another 250 years, it's gonna require making decisions that hurt people's feelings. It's I'm sorry, but it's gonna require saying things that somebody says, Oh, I can't believe you'd say that. Why why, Michael? How dare you? You you filthy racist, okay. I don't care. My my job is to serve the American people too. And I do it in a different capacity. I'm not voting on bills, but I'm I'm trying to influence public consensus. I'm trying to speak the truth. I'm trying to keep people informed and educated on what's going on and what we can do about it, and keep people logically reasoning in their own minds. Hey, what's going on here? What what are the problems and how do we solve them? That's my job. And my job is also to serve the people of Houston, to serve Texans, to serve Americans. And so it's uh the onus is on me to say the truth, even if that truth is considered a one point radical. And I don't need, you know, kudos to me for for saying it early. It doesn't matter. It it literally doesn't matter at all, as long as it actually works. I don't need recognition so long as what I'm doing does make an impact. That that voices like mine and and many others can continue to speak the truth and say, hey, this is what's going on, and we need to do better. And we need more representatives to join this fight. And we need more people to recognize that, hey, there are issues here that need to be resolved, that need to be fixed, that need to be changed. Our system is broken, it's failing, it's floundering, and it's going to be the thing that destroys the nation. It is going to destroy what what was known as the United States of America if we don't keep it in check, if we don't watch it, if we don't analyze it, if we don't reason around it. Now,

Lena Hidalgo Says She Has Mono
SPEAKER_08Welcome back, ladies and gentlemen. I'm your host, Michael Wilson, and you're listening to the Lone Star Conservative. Harris County Judge Lena Hidalgo says she's been diagnosed with infectious mononucleosis, commonly known as mono, after weeks of dealing with a lingering sore throat and extreme fatigue. Hidalgo shared the diagnosis Friday morning, saying she received confirmation from lab results after extensive testing initially pointed to exhaustion. Quote, I've been dealing with a lingering sore throat and intense fatigue. The only treatment for mono is rest, has been essentially the claim. Earlier, Hidalgo attended Harris County Commissioner's Court but said she was unable to remain for the entire meeting because she wasn't feeling well. She also wore a K-95 mask during the meeting. According to Hidalgo, her doctor advised her to rest, help ensure a full recovery, and prevent the illness from becoming more serious. She acknowledged that she had continued interacting with community members before learning she had mono because she believed that her symptoms were caused purely by exhaustion. And so she thankfully mono is not spread through casual contact. Uh she also came out and uh she said, My team is gonna represent me when necessary. I will remain fully available and reachable, especially in the event of emergency or anything like that. But basically, I'm gonna be not nearly as public right now, right? That's that's essentially the essentially the claim. But nevertheless, this this sort of is is why it's it's kind of like the boy who cried wolfing. It's a little frustrating. I don't have an issue if somebody that's supposed to be a leader gets sick, right? You get sick days for a reason. People get sick. I there have been days that I wanted to do a show that I've missed shows uh because I got sick. It's happened. It happens. You wake up and you feel absolutely awful, and there's just no way you can get to work. It happens, right? Do the best of us people get sick. Uh, but the reality is that that's not the issue. The issue is Lena Hidalgo has also left Commissioner's Court to go to concerts and for her mental therapy and all number of things that are not justifiable reasons why you should be leaving a leadership position open like that. And so if she has mono, of course, we'll pray for her. We want her to be at full health, right? We don't want people to get sick, right? Sickness is not fun for anybody, regardless of who they are. But I'm so sick and tired of this. Well, I I'm sick, so I can't come. Okay, that's fair, but how about you show up to all the other ones? How about that? How about we make a deal right now, Lena? You and me, baby girl, we make a deal. You agree to show up to Commissioner's Court when you feel good, when you're not sick. And I mean physically, not when you're mentally upset and you got your feelings hurt, when you're physically unwell, you don't show up, and all the other times you do your darn job. How about that? Is that a fair compromise? If you have mono, that's fine, right? You you can you can skip out for a bit, but then when you're back, be back and and do your job. It's not hard, it's not difficult, that's what we all do, it's what every American does, and you need to do it too. That's that's all I ask. Now, with that being said, when we get back, we're gonna look about Eagle Pass. Uh Eagle Pass is now denying a request to stage buoy barriers at City Park. Uh Shelby Park has been a rather contentious spot in the fight to ensure Texas' southern border. Uh, and now we're getting some details coming out from Eagle Pass where council members were were having this conversation, discussing what that would look like, all these sorts of things that we want to keep you guys updated on on what happens when local governments get involved like this. As always, if you would like to text into the show to let us know your thoughts on anything we're covering, or as I always can say, anything we're not. Eagle Pass Blocks Buoy Barrier Staging
SPEAKER_08Eagle Pass City Council members unanimously denied Gilbraltar construction company's request for permission to use Shelby Park as a staging area for the installation of buoys in the Rio Grande, despite more than 600 buoys already being stored in the park. The construction company offered the Eagle the City of Eagle Pass $1,000 a month to lease 2.3 acres for one year to store hundreds of orange cylindrical boat boo uh buoys and equipment for the 62-mile waterborne barrier. It was hired by the federal government to install in the Rio Grande. In other words, they were hired to do a legitimate job. And they said, Hey, we need a spot for storage that's nearby that makes our job as easy as possible, that makes it where we can do it as efficiently and effectively as possible. Can we rent your park? And they say, Yeah, you can use our park. You can stage there, whatever. And so they were part of this smartwall technology intended to stop, of course, illegal aliens from entering the country. At the city council meeting, city manager Omero Baldeiras was questioned about the buoys already being stored in the park and why he'd spoke with the company without the council's permission. In response to the first thing he thought of when he was approached by the property was Zay's previous takeover of the park. He said, My immediate thought was if we react to this and immediately tell them no, then they could perhaps do the same. During the Mighty administration, of course, Shelby Park had been a point of contention in the state's fight to protect the southern border. Governor Greg Abbott seized the park in January of 2024, deploying National Guard troops, DPS officers, and barriers to secure the area and denying federal officers access to it. Attorney General Ken Paxson denied then Department of Homeland Security Tech General Counsel Jonathan Myers' demand to allow federal agents into the park to seemingly remove razor wire fence barricades. In August of twenty twenty three, Eagle Pass City Council members voted to change Selby Park's status from private to public. The previous private status allowed state and federal officers to catch and detain illegal aliens attempting to enter the U.S. for criminal trespass or other charges. And then that got taken off the board as well. And so again, you have this sort of city conversation. Council of debacle, where I understand the the the the goal, even if it were were as stated to simply be a protection of the people of your city. Hey, our our people don't actually want this, whatever. I understand that you have a job to do as city council defending your city's sovereignty. I totally get that. You guys know I've talked frequently on this show about the importance of being involved in city council goings on because over and over and over again they have quite a bit of authority. And they should. We we are a ground up sort of government. Right? We believe that states have sovereignty, that cities have sovereignty, and the federal government can't just do whatever they want, right? We acknowledge all of that. At the same time, there's times when cities do really terrible things and they abuse their so-called sovereignty, and they need to be I don't want to say punished, but they need to be held in line. Right? When when Houston and City Council or Harris County Commissioner's Court or whoever comes out and they want these ICE ordinances uh that that prohibit ice from getting the call and able to show up in time, when they say, hey, we want to fund the legal defense of illegal immigrants, right? All these sorts of things, that is an abuse of the authority that God has given you. It is an abuse. And it should be held accountable. You should be held accountable for that abuse. And so when we look at Eagle Pass, we say, hey, you know, we actually have a very big problem going on. And it's not gonna get better. And we need as many defensive mechanisms as we can. Can we use your park? And they say, Yeah, you can use our park for a year. And then into that year, then they go, Well, actually, now you can't. Now what? Loser. Like it it's very frustrating because we all recognize why can we not just get this done and move on? I understand you have a park that you want to maintain and protect. I totally get it. It's not gonna take that much time. It is very important that we make sure the border is as defended as possible, that we utilize all the opportunities, including putting these things in the Rio Grande, making sure that we're set up to deal with an invasion, which is what we've consistently had to face. And it's very important that we have the availability to do that. And so for City Council to unanimously say, no, you can't use it as a staging area, is absolutely insane. They have all their restored materials there, it's not gonna take very long, they need the time to get the construction done, and then everyone can move on. And you say no. That should show you the priority city council because if it was their own people, they wouldn't mind having one park area be a staging area for a bit with some construction tape, blocking it off with some construction barriers. That wouldn't be a problem. It's not about the citizens. So let's not pretend like this is what I I defended that. That's not what this is actually about at all. It's the same people who consistently appear to be anti-immigration enforcement. And you know what? When you're like, oh man, they might seize us again. If that's what needs to happen, that's what needs to happen because you're not doing your job. It shouldn't have to come to that. Right? I shouldn't, it's the same with laws. I don't actually want you to break the laws so we can give you justice. Justice is the response if you do, but I don't want you to break the law. Part of the reason we have justice is so that you don't break the law. I don't want you to do that. I want everyone to be non-criminals. I want you all to be law-abiding citizens. But when you're not, of course we need mechanisms for justice. And when Eagle Pass refuses to do the right thing, refuses to do the very clear good thing, I think it requires our ability to say, okay, then I guess we'll do it anyway, uh, and and have some state involvement because it's very frustrating to see the outcome here. Now, with that being said, we have got an update. You guys might remember Aaron Wrights. I really liked Aaron Wright. He was running for attorney general. He was the one of the candidates uh in the pri in the wide primary field, by the way, for the attorney general for the state of Texas. Uh and now he's making waves because he's yet again in the spotlight, not as attorney general. We know that he did not win the primary, but he's been sworn in for something else, which we'll talk about after the break. As always, if you would like to text into the show and let us know your thoughts, the number is 713. And this, by the way, will be your final chance to do this. SPEAKER_19We talk to a lot of people who will literally come up and say, I hate shopping for Medicare plans so much. And I'll say, What's happened? And they'll say, My gosh, my phone won't stop ringing. I've got people showing up at my door. My mailbox is full of garbage. It's just so unpleasant. And I'm like, I get it, and I'm sorry. But you know what? Don't let that keep you for demanding the best out of the plans that you have. These are available to you. You earned these. So do not allow those practices to discourage you from reaching out to somebody who can help you understand what your options are and change each year when it's appropriate to do so. Did you know that these plans they change kind of a lot? So if you've been in a plan for a long time, there's a good chance that thing is degraded a lot since you put it in place. Aaron Reitz Sworn In As US Attorney
SPEAKER_08the Attorney General candidate, he was sworn in late last week as the new U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Texas, assuming leadership of one of the nation's largest and busiest federal prosecutors' offices. He took the oath of office before U.S. District Judge Nicholas Ganji. He said, I'm honored to serve as the chief federal law enforcement officer and lawyer for this mission critical district. Our office will relentlessly combat violent crime, illegal immigration, drug and human trafficking, corruption, and fraud. We will faithfully uphold the rule of law and protect the public. Things are about to get very bad for criminals in the Southern District of Texas. He's previously served, of course, uh in the U.S. Department of Justice as Deputy Attorney General for legal strategy under Ken Paxton and as Chief of Staff to U.S. Senator Ted Cruz. So he's been around the block. Uh earlier this year, of course, as he sought the nomination for Test Attorney General for the Republican Party, ultimately finishing in the GOP primary, not first, uh, so not securing that nomination. Uh but Paxton said, I thank him for his strong leadership, which was key to our success in defending our constitutional values and system of government. I know Aaron will be an outstanding U.S. attorney and will serve the Southern District of Texas with integrity and a strong commitment to the rule of law that will undoubtedly advance the cause of justice in our state. As attorney, he will oversee federal criminal prosecutions in civil litigation throughout the Southern District of Texas, which spans 43 counties from Houston all the way out to the Rio Grande Valley. I'm very excited. Um I was a big fan of Aaron Wrights in the primary. I think he had a lot going for him. Um his campaign was phenomenal. And he just I I don't think he had the name recognition, unfortunately, to have, you know, pose, I think, the sort of threat that he should have. But Aaron Wright was a phenomenal candidate. And so anytime that I see a phenomenal candidate in another opportunity that that is something that is especially something that is very important, I'm very excited because we have so many of these offices that are being held by limp-wrest, spineless people. And I'm not saying that the former one was like that, that's not what I'm claiming, but it happens. It's frequent. We know that. We have a lot of limp wrists in our legislatures, in our courts, in our judicial positions, in our prosecutors' offices. We're all well aware of that. And so when we get kind of a bulldog, someone who's willing to go in and say, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no. I don't care what you call me. This is my job and I'm doing it. It's very exciting to see. And so we'll see how Aaron Wright does. I'm sure we'll have lots of stories coming out here on the show about the sort of things his office is doing. But in
