to the political pour a podcast. I'm Sue. This is jazz and I'm Jen. And we are three friends who are tired. Oh my god. Exhausted. So tired. At this point. Is this election over? We like to talk about politics and we really need a drink. For this week. What? I didn't even have a response. I just, all I could do was just breathe.'cause that's how Shake your head. Shake your head. That had no words. It is, woo. Armageddon is near Election day is coming up and we are, we are just, we're ready for it, I guess. It's inevitable that Tuesday, November 5th will come and go and we will know the future of our country and what it holds for all of our lives I'm sorry I look so sad. I'm just, in my mind, I'm just thinking like, Lord, I need y'all to really. And to Jasmine, there's no optimism. I am optimistic. Well, I need y'all to really get to it. Well, let's take a collective step. Yeah, let's take a collective step. It's election day and I need everybody to do what you're supposed to do. By or on Tuesday. It is very serious. I understand that some people make a lot of jokes and make light about a lot of things and as black people We have a unique ability to do this because we've had to be optimistic and make our way through a long time It's a survival technique, however You know what else is a survival technique voting? So make sure you go and you know, that's right Okay And then we can make all the jokes we want after we do our jobs that part and make sure we secure democracy because it's not just Two candidates If this doesn't go the way that it needs to go, you may not have two candidates. So this is why some of us have been on the mountaintop for a long time. Not, not'cause we're excessive, it's because we understand the seriousness of it. And for a lot of things I that I know I can recall. When we said, Hey, this isn't going to be good. Like people need to have their eyebrows up and their antennas up. And people were like, you're just being, you're just getting tainted. You're just taking things like way to another level. That's never going to happen. I don't think any of us ever thought we'd be where we are today. Just get out there and vote, damn it. Yeah. So, with that being said, Do y'all just want to go straight into it? I know, Jen, Did you like homecoming? Yeah, let's start on a high. I was like, we just talked about how we had so much fun and then we came home and it's like, reality set in. It's just like when you attend an HBCU, like those four years are some of the most cherished four years in a bubble of blackness and protection and love and joy. And then they kick you out into the real world. And when you leave there, you go back to the real world. You'd be like, damn, what the fuck is this? God, this shit was out here. We came back to reality quick after that nice little high of I was there my carry Pretty lit I think class of 09 did anything we do our thing. Let me tell you Before we get a joyous occasion. I meant to say this to you all earlier and I forgot I damn well do hope you had some fun for me. And I also hope that you enjoyed a nice, steak. It may be a nice glass of whiskey. Oh, baby. I'm sorry. She had the plate. No, jazz and love, sir. This is where we, we, I knew that when I saw the door. I know the door. You was at the private club too. I know that because I saw the door. I didn't need to see a menu, a solid door, okay? Yeah, you know, we were in that menu doing That's why you, that's why you gotta come back. Oh, yeah. That has to be like I was just like Not at, not at my place. No, she took them to my place. Did you see my outfit though? Yes. I was just, I was a little like, I was like, that was one of the highlights. Really? Oh my God. Oh my God. Did everybody say wait? Because I fell asleep after the dinner and the drinks and like a cigar. I was, oh yeah. We went out after that, right? We did. We went out to sleep in the bonfire party. Oh, the bonfire. That was, that was a nice. I like that venue too because. Where was it? It was West Side Motor. It's all the off mill Mill, Howard Mill and North Side. It's like it's right next to where we lived in 10 side. Oh it literally right next. It's very different now, but it's a nice, it's an outdoor reveal. Everything. It's an outdoor venue and so Oh, that's nice. It was a lot people, but it didn't feel like a lot of people, which it didn't, but it was a lot. Yeah. And you don't know. I don't. Talk about claustrophobia in, uh, now that was a different story. Also, I'd be like, let me find my people and let me just, on another level now, it was so I do not struggle with claustrophobia. And I, in that moment, I was like, Sue, I can't do this. It was more spacious at the Kamala rally on Tuesday. And there were 75, 000 people there. So I had no problem getting it. Was it tighter? I feel like they're trying to control. It's restricted in the same way, but it's more people. So there's no space for those people to move. But also with them trying to control entry and stuff like that. Yeah. And certain points and checking tickets and stuff. It just leads to bottlenecking. Jennifer almost made us turn around. I was like, uh, go home. I was like, I'm not going to do this for three hours. Y'all got me all the way fucked up. It's kind of crazy. I was like, if this is the homecoming experience, miss me. I thought somebody was going to pass out. I'm not doing this. We turned around. Somebody ain't passed out. Well, we ain't know. For that reason. But I'm glad we turned around. Because we ended up. We ended up going on Spelman's campus. Which was beautiful. That's when we did our video. Because we turned around. And we were like, well. Bye. You know what? I got to use the bathroom. Let's go on Spelman's campus. And then we just kind of walked around, did the arch pictures. Oh, I went to the bookstore, got my baby some Spelman gear. Oh, I saw. It was so cute. And Barbies. Justin was sleeping with his Spelman bear. Oh, yeah. So then we then after that, we regrouped. I regrouped because I was like, You probably got a chance to regain your damn breath. Yeah, I was like, Lord. And then we went in through the other way behind the leadership center. Which was not as bad. Yeah. And then. The way we usually go. Yeah, exactly. That's my favorite way to go. Yeah, that's the only way to go. We walked to campus. She told me it was 15 minutes. It was the best walk ever. No, it really was. I'm not saying nowhere with that. Did you ever walk past Magnolia? No, I didn't walk. Do you remember the walk back? Yes. That's the part I was worried about, Josh. Oh! I was like, hopefully it's enough people outside. We had a lovely, long conversation with a gentleman, who was apprehensive about voting, but I hope we changed his mind. We was talking to him for like 20 minutes. We was coming out the house like, Are y'all okay? Go back inside. We're saving democracy. Go back inside Do you remember we were at one music fest and um, I don't know if we can If our friends want to be named but we were told not today. Ladies. Y'all are off today. Oh, yes Yes, because we were about to go to this booth this booth That was promoting something about boys like vote for life or a vote or die or something. Um, and we don't have no days off Exactly, right. Okay, you know what day your day off is? November 6th You you can get off on november 6th. Okay, that's your day. That's our next day off On the morning of the 6th, right exactly. So yeah Did y'all see, before we wrap up the homecoming talk, did y'all see all the, uh, TikToks about our sections? And you could tell some people ain't never been nowhere. And talk about not sections. I saw one. I didn't know that was something that was like a viral. What's the, what's the problem? First of all, it's in Atlanta. And if you were to have them anywhere, it would be. And I'm sorry that you're not used to this level of eliteness. Like if we do homecoming different, I just can't, we can't, this is just, this is regular stuff. Every school does something different. They do something different and they have their own vibes. Like, we just happen to like to sit, have a good time, have a good drink, have a nice fuka and do all that while we're, I'm curious though, because the young lady I saw, I just wanted to know like, how old are you ma'am? Because you must be very young and I understand that maybe if you are an undergrad homecoming is a fun time for you. It is not, it's not for you. We have a conversation at home. For you, Elgate is not for you. I was told as an undergrad that Telge is not for you. I was told that too. You can come and you can hang out if you are invited. Nobody here told me not to come. No, I'm saying you can come, but this is not for you. I've never been offensive. Yeah. Yeah. I mean, it's for the alumni. It's a celebration for the alumni. And yes, as students, I think the best part that we had is just walking around drinking outside and nobody giving you shit for it. Like, I didn't get the chance to get like, A lot of options of grilled and tailgate food. Right. Because they're, because I don't know where y'all go, but they're not hot dogs and hamburgers at the tailgates we go to. It's just not that kind of a vibe. Although I do love a hot dog. I mean, I love it. First of all, you know, I love a grilled hamburger. Especially when it's a fresh made. I want to tell a story. Do y'all remember when I was going to the homecoming themed party and I had to bring Potato rolls or something. Potato rolls. I had to bring like. Like martins? Yes. Regular just sliced bread. Yeah, for what? For fried fish. For fried fish. So, as a, as a, as a North Carolinian. But then they just busted the bag open and were like, yeah, this is how you do it. But we don't do that at our home. No, we don't. That's a Carolina specific thing. Yeah, that's, that's like one plate that you gonna get a plate of fried fish with some white bread and some, Get some mustard and some hot sauce. And maybe also a plate of spaghetti. So anyway. Um. No, I did really thoroughly enjoy the Olive Branch Alumni Day Party as well. Rich Kids, we had, um, Roscoe Dash and the Swag Surf. Yes, it's Fly. F L Y. But it was very nostalgic of like our years in Atlanta where like you would be in the club and it's, you know, Somebody there, somebody performing. It's a celeb there. There are lots of celebrities. I can imagine. There and at tailgate. And at the bonfire. But I'm telling you, something about that class of 2009, we just Well, you know, I think That was my, that was one of my favorite, um Homecomings? My favorite events was that Bonfire. Alright, so, yeah, that was fun. Now it's back to reality. I'm glad you guys had a good time. No, we needed that, especially before this election. Yeah, definitely needed that and some drinks, which we have now. While y'all were there, I just had a very nice Oh yeah, let's talk about our drinks. I had a little pedicure that was my Oh, I'm glad to hear that. I need one of those. Oh, we went Oh, that was to do it. I can't? No. No, go ahead. Tell me where you went. Okay. Let me tell you, we went to Atlanta Nail and Toe Spine Bucket where they do the D'Ussé pedicures. Oh, do they actually put D'Ussé in the pedicure bag? Yes, because they're wasteful. Right. The fuck? What is that supposed to do for your feet? Well, they served us mimosas. I got my average deuce. So they served you for the champagne, the orange juice. They served signature champagne while they put deuce on your feet. Y'all gimme a champagne glass. I'm happy. Maybe it. Hopefully it was just in a deuce bottle. No, I pour my D'Ussé in a champagne glass. I pour that damn prosecco. I'm like, don't please don't pour, please don't waste this alcohol. Well, I, I, my feet were already done. However, My feet were not. My feet still are not. I went and, I'll get them done on November 6th. I needed my eyebrows tinted, so, um, she did my eyebrows and she was like, Do you, do you want the tint? Girl, all these eyebrows, all these eyebrows I had, you would have to like, They looked good. I have enough eyebrows for two. Let me tell you that the person who has sometimes looked at them and like They looked good. Thank you. She tinted them and they looked really good. But they look good now. I would do it again. She said it lasts for two weeks. If you're interested in bathing your feet in D'Ussé for some reason. Or in tinting your eyebrows. Go there. Don't they also have the Hennessy Patekine? I don't. That would be. Never mind. And we have pore alcohol on you. I came to Atlanta to do Atlanta shit. And that felt very Atlanta. The more I think about it, it's making me mad. That's like when you go to the club and you see people paying a bottle for 1, 000. Wait, so you didn't get it? No, I'm trying to tell you my feet were done. I was just there for the vibes. I got my eyebrows and the vibes. Okay. And the champagne. My say is in my cup in this lovely, uh, remix of it. No feet. That was a great transition by the way. French connection doe on feet now doe in class. Got some, we got some deuce cognac. We got De Serrano, which I have had. I used to doo I No, you like did I haven't had it. When I saw it, I was like, oh, blast from the past, taking it back. Um. Yeah, DeSerrano, Cognac, and a little, uh, splash of Sour Mix. Um, with a nice little wedge of a caramel apple. It's very nice. Very nice. I was trying to get into like a very like European, uh, French vibe because if this election doesn't turn out in the way that we all hope, I might find myself over there real quick. So, facts, French connection come through. Yeah. You know, I'll, well, cheers. I'll send all where to find me and stuff, but left. I was, listen, just keep your tracker on. Oh, our trackers are still on from this weekend oh, you know, well, I'm not sure my location with you. for sharing locations. It could save a life. You never know. It really could. All right. Well, so. Since we sippin Oh my God. And Jazz be scrollin I think the reason why it was such a, Wave of reality when we came back from homecoming. It's like the news one. Okay, the news cycle It doesn't stop like things have been happening since we left while we were there I think for some of us kind of like checked out just a little bit like we still you know kept in tune with some stuff is going on, but This week like what? What? They're really amping up the, can I get I the racism, the, the crazy, the misogyny, the, the fascism, the antisemitism, the fuckery, the overall fuckery of it all. So Jack, it's like, would you like to start with the, Tom foolery on the social media, outlet? Well, I, I, I was so overwhelmed from the last time that we've got together, prior to the homecoming that I, at some point, I just didn't know where to go. I was overwhelmed. I was inundated with foolishness and just ridiculousness. Originally, I thought I knew where I wanted to start, but as soon as I opened my phone up right before this episode It's a new treat. I see something else that I was like, Hell hell no. Which our, former rambling lunatic of a presidential candidate is out here going on and on about his beautiful white skin. Now, that alone. Oh, his beautiful white skin. pants today. But he's orange. Yes, because he sprays it. But then he also talked about how it's because he, he doesn't have a tan. There's so much wrong. His beautiful white skin and the waves and the ocean. He did not. Yes, he did. He did. I don't even know if playing it would be sufficient because it just I think you should know I don't even know if you want to put that in but But if it was it was bizarre and disturbing Much like many of his other things this week the original one that I was going to address. Oh gosh, no way Because there was something else that I saw this morning that took over place of that which was him and You Crazy Tucker Carlson. Oh, sheesh. Talking about lining Liz Cheney up. Yes. In front of, like, a military tribunal. And having rifles pointed at her face. Firing, not pointing, firing. That she should be fired on. They should be firing at her. Hmm. Oh my gosh, I just like that actually pissed me off and then Tucker Carlson said they're just Cheering it up, which i'm not surprised by let me not say that. I thought higher of Tucker Carlson because I really Think that he is Any type of. He is the sickest person. He is one of the type of sick that like the sickest people that you can find somebody who you can literally find an interview of in his early career saying how he would never do this this and that because it's so despicable and he's turned into everything that he said and worse. Oh, I know someone like that who's running for vice president. Well, I don't even know if that man ever had any morals. I don't even know if that man ever had any morals. I'm not sure if he did, but he did say a literal chameleon. I'll never support Trump. Trump is America's Hitler. And here he is, he's running to be what Joseph Gable. He is a literal chameleon. But anyhow, back to what we were talking about, prior to the Liz Cheney threats and beautiful white skin of it all of today. And that was just the last, that was today. That was just the last 24 hours. Oh Lord. I don't even know if it, it's a full 24 hours. Probably not the sad part. Um, another thing that disturbed, you know, like most sensible people. It is for some man to say, I will be your protector. Whether you would like, whether you like it or not. Or not. Oh yeah. Anytime. A van is usually saying, I'm gonna do something to you whether you like it or not, it gives rapey vibes, definitely. And for anybody he would know, I can just walk up to random strangers, grab them in the mouth, or grab them by puy, then grab them by the puss. And then get sued for literally doing just that and try to convince people that's not what you did But you said you very much so do it and people don't stop you Probably because in the midst of people being assaulted at random Sometimes they're in a little bit of shock when they don't expect a stranger to come up and tongue them down and grab their vaginas And it was so crazy because His, incoherent rambling was in response to him saying, like, Oh, my campaign staff has been telling me I shouldn't say that I'm a protector of women, like, Can you believe that? They actually paid him. I'm like, He's had access. I don't trust their judgment all the time, but you might want to listen to them on this, because, literally, there is nothing that you can say Or due to be a compassionate protector of women. Like we are like, that ship has sailed off of the space of the earth. It is no, like, no. And so maybe he doesn't want, he's not listening to reason, of course. No, he's not saying he's not saying, well, that was in the news cycle too. That, that, that, like, he's just not. Listening to his own people. Well, people just want him to shut up. He's not listening to anyone he is holding pep rallies or or uh, news conferences pep rallies? This point It's literally saying like You know what? I don't, even though I call all y'all here for questions, I don't want to tell you any questions. I'm just going to dance here, and you're going to watch it, and it's going to be awkward. Dance, dance. I mean, I don't understand the people that follow him because so I have this vision of that scene in The Wiz after evil lean dies. And all of her, like the people who was working in their little factory, all, they all like come out of like their hideous costumes and they're like reemerged as like actual, like beautiful individuals. Like, I hope that's like my vision for what is going to happen Donald Trump loses because like, yes, these are, these are American people. And a lot of them have been brainwashed by. the cult of, of MAGA, the cult of Trump. And, the thing is that, and it's um, like, it's, it's sad, but these are Americans, and they are people's, you know, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, and after there is no more Trump, after he falls, which, hopefully, uh, we'll run this back on, uh, November 6th. Right. But like, I just want them to all be released from this, this curse and this spell that they're under and be, and embrace a new, real life, realistic thing. view of America that has nothing to do with this person. Either that or you just drink the Kool Aid. Like, like, literally, I saw a post that was like, It's like, if you want to go out with him, that's fine. You can drink the Kool Aid and you can go. Trump is literally, like, Trump, Trump is Jim Jones, except he would have sold them the Kool Aid and they would have bought it and drank themselves. Exactly, and drank it and, and, Like, they, he would have made them purchase the Kool Aid. Exactly. That's the only difference. That's the only difference. And bathe their feet in D'Ussé. I'm done. But that's a very optimistic view. I applaud you for that. I, I think I just still got PTSD. I feel like Trump didn't create this. He just awakened it. And I think it's the underbelly that's always lied in this country and it used to have a place to thrive and then we went to a space where, no, it's no longer cool to like be that outwardly racist and And I get that, but I do feel that there are hardworking, well meaning people who are supporters of his that have literally been brainwashed. I do think that. Like, they weren't necessarily, held these views of people in the country that did not look like them, or were not, you know, from the same place as them. And held the, these views that those people are evil, but listening to the writer, I think this has been, this has been something that's in the works for, for eight years. It's not like we just met this man yesterday. Like it has been an anchor. And that's usually how, cults get you. Like they, they bring you in. That's how indoctrination works. Like it starts very subtly. It starts small. It's like you start to think about things that are in your life that it's like, Oh, well, yeah, that makes sense. I'm indoctrinating the girls to go to Spelman. I'm starting. Exactly. I'm starting. Subtle. There are positive, um, influences. Exactly. Aniyah, where you going? Spell me. New, new voice. She can barely say it. But she know. She don't gotta know how to say it all. I'm not going to pretend. I'm going to Spell me. I still remember going to see that at Atlantic Station. I do do, yes. Coming years. I, well go ahead. All right, Jazz, what's left on the sipper scroll? Lord Jesus. I think we probably will touch on the rally that happened, the, you know, extremely racist Madison Square Garden rally. I have a feeling we're going to go into that, so I won't touch on as much of it. I guess we have to. Oh, we definitely have to. Oh, we have to. Oh, we, we, we, we got it. It was just so un American. But what I, what I did appreciate as the backlash from it. It was that there are quite a few Latino Americans and as a fellow Latina American, I would really, I really would have liked to have seen some of the support a little earlier. But it's okay, you guys are here. It's better than never, okay? And you guys here, before we got to the thing, before we got to the actual lecture, but what I will say is that, um, I'm just, I'm very happy to see a lot more, a lot more presence online of the people who have come out in support of her Latinos and some other non Latinos. It's just in regards to just for standing up for what's right. Number one. The Puerto Ricans were talked about disgustingly, but so were black people. So were Jews. So were Palestinians. Pretty much so with anybody who's not a white Anglo Saxon male. Right. That part. also, on our social media page this week, we have posted quite a few things regarding Project 2025. We've posted, a few of the blog posts from the National Women's Law Center that kind of take a deep delve into different of Project 2025 and break down what it plans to do, what this means for you. And gives you a better idea of what is inside, what the plans are, what things we need to be voting actively against and what is really at stake. So yeah, I do want to plug that in because I think it's very important and I think that project 2025 Sometimes just seems daunting to people because well, it's not a hundred pages And it just seems it's so much that it's kind of talked about in a way But in some ways it doesn't really give people a lot of like Like, this is what it'll mean to you. Like, for instance, I love when people, like on social media last week, I saw a lot of people breaking down what it means for Title I schools. Yeah. And so, which is critical, especially for our community. So basically, that means all our Title, and majority of African American students in America attend Title I schools. So we need that funding. So if What is a Title I school? A Title I school is a school that I believe a certain percentage of the students come income level. And based on that, that's how they determine the needs of the school. And then those schools then receive additional funding, federal funding so that students are receiving and families are receiving not only additional, you know, supplies, materials. There's all sorts of like extracurricular sort of family things that they provide through the school Some of these schools will provide meals, like there are several schools that will provide all three meals for students at these schools, so it's just, it's It's really, really critical to our community that we do not let these people in and get, you know, gut the Department of Education because that will be detrimental. We already have an achievement gap in this country, and so it will just severely worsen if we do away with the Department of Education and Title I funding. Yeah, definitely. And they tried during the last Trump term by putting Betsy DeVos in as They did try. Um, Education Secretary, which Which is absolutely horrendous. She had no, no business anywhere near anything having to do with children or education. But yeah, that is not surprising that that is one of the things on the chopping block. Speaking of which, um, while we're talking about the things on the chopping block in terms of education, I think I had said it before, the plans that were about, Cutting off fundings to universities. Yes, Well, just today, when I was on my way down to meet you guys, I saw that Eli Musta hit. Oh God. Well, you know, well, colleges, why do we really need them? It's not really for learning. We don't really need them. You're right. And this is the person that is getting a cabinet position under Trump that he has promised Oh my God. Him and R. F. K. Jr. R. F. K. Jr. Who knows? I don't know. He needs to be over health. Which is, oh, excuse me, parasite The vaccine Den Vaccine. The vaccine, uh, anti-vaccine person. Yeah. They said, and Elon Musk, first of all, Elon Musk, his position, quote unquote, is going to be about like managing, like the fiscal budget and about saying that we're gonna go into immediate downfall and everybody's gonna struggle, but it'll be worth it. Struggle. Everyone's gonna struggle, but it'll be worth it, but it'll be worth it. I find it strange that we have white South Africans who are, who are apartheid. Who just became citizens of this culture. Well not him, Peter Thiel. There's at least like three of them that are behind the whole of this. Elon Musk in particular, like, really, like, grinds my gears. Because, like, this billionaire, billionaire, who makes a good chunk of his billions off of the federal government. Period. Comes and says, Yes, regular Americans will have to take cuts and well, first of all, you already hear the economy is is getting better But people are not feeling it in their pockets. Why would you think it would be a good thing to say to people who are already struggling to afford to put food on the table, afford housing, afford to transportation to and from work That you're going to have to take a good, like, that's not even good common sense. I actually have something very good to get into that, that I saw in the headlines. When we get there, that ties into. Well, we can just, let's just, this is a free for all, let's just go all out. All right. So I am done. There were so many headlines, right? So, but since we're talking about Elon Musk making it plain that, you know, ordinary Americans will struggle and, but it will be worth it. And you don't need a university to go to because why would you need education there? Cause he thinks people aren't learning there anyway. Right. So Kamala this week. She received a number of like big name endorsement So the Economist which is I believe an independent British nonpartisan independent publication They endorsed Kamala Fervently Their endorsement was Very straightforward. It was. It was. It was, yeah. They basically gather all their journalists together in the room. They always endorse a US candidate for presidency and they, they take notes. Washington Post. You know what? That's the problem when you let a bunch of billionaires buy up the way Americas publication basically free out'cause look at Twitter. Alright? They came out and said. You know, basically they believe Donald Trump poses, a serious risk. and they basically named three reasons. One, what he's promising to do with the economy is way more radical and dangerous. The tariffs, mass deportations, tax cuts for the rich. The second reason was, um, the world in general right now is just much more dangerous. Um, it's a time when America needs its allies. And we know that Trump. Doesn't care about our alliances. And the Biden Harris administration has rebuilt our, our alliances abroad. And we know, you know, that Trump would undo those. And then third is he would be much more unconstrained this time around, which is a real threat for American institutions in 2016. They basically said, you know, there were some grownups in the room to kind of check him this time around, it's going to be cronies and no one to check him. And you add all that together. And they just basically were like, Trump is an unacceptable risk. And therefore, even if, even if like, for instance, they, they even said like, yeah. Kamala's economic plan could be better, it could use some tweaking, however, it doesn't pose the risk, the catastrophic risk that Trump's does. So basically, and she also went on to say, I think this was like the editor in chief, that the American economy is in an extraordinarily good place. People don't feel it because inflation and it takes a while to kind of undo those things and the effects of it. We're in a good place in the economy and Kamala Harris's economic policies certainly are better than Trump, no doubt. And with some tweaking, she poses far less risk than Trump. So basically, and not just them, economists in general agree that when you look at these two plans side by side. Kamala's is far better for the average American person. So that was that And since we were talking about that, I just wanted to say that um tariffs are never a good idea Exactly, but I guess you got to know what tariff means. Mm hmm. I don't even know where to go So at the top of the week was the nazi rally. I guess we should start there Right, so that was that's like a good place That was us coming off a homecoming was like, oh, so now we're holding nazi rallies in madison square garden You Yes, to commemorate the 1939 Nazi rally. Talk about it. Talk about it. So there were, there are actually a lot of parallels between that 1939 rally and kind of like what we see the Republican Party doing now. So I was doing some reading and at that time. There were domestic concerns in the United States including unemployment, national security, combined with prevalent anti semitism and racism, which is what shaped Americans kind of response to Nazism and the economic devastation of the Great Depression, which I find and I like we have said this on several episodes is that They have the playbook. Everybody, they always make a scapegoat and then turn it into somebody who's a They're playing on the economy. They're playing on inflation. They're playing on the border. And they're getting desperate because all of those things are proving less and less right. It's like in reality that people are actually living in day to day. It's like, Where? But they basically make these plays that, you know, these people or these issues pose such a, like, critical threat to your livelihood. They want to let in the criminals, they want, I mean like, it's scary. How this is basically right out of the nazi playbook. So, I just kind of wanted to highlight that and tell everybody like, take this serious. Because I just never thought that I, with my own eyes will witness a Nazi rally here in the United States. And I think it was just extremely un American. I didn't think I'd witness it by somebody who's actually running for president who was formerly president. I never thought I'd see that. Do I think American Nazis exist? Yes. Do I also think that after World War II? America might have been a little too free with allowing people in here who had those types of ideas like including war criminals that they have found after decades of living in the U. S. I mean who are getting brought, some of them who are getting brought to justice for international war crimes. So if you don't know history, read up on it because if we don't know our history we're doomed to repeat it. We don't need to repeat it. What you saw in New York City. On Sunday or Monday, whatever that was, was a replay, a remix of the Nazi rally in 1939. Right. And they are basically using the same. and trying to Trump's been doing that since the beginning. Make America great again. America is for Americans and Americans only. Which is exactly parodying Hitler about Germany. Yep. Germany is for Germans and Germans only. Yep. Um, the same with make Germany great again. Mm hmm. Um, the same one with people of, immigrants are poison in the blood of the country. It's just disgusting. What makes me sad is that it's been so disgusting. And that it's just so popular. Well, and that's what you said earlier, Sue. She was like, you know, I just want these people to come back in afterward. I'm just trying to figure out How does that work? Like, even if these people have an awakening of like, Oh God, I was in this cult mindset for so long and maybe it was wrong. I don't know how we reconciled when you were so easy to be susceptible to finding inhumanity in just my interior, just my overall existence. I'm not going to hold my breath for that awakening period, but if it happens. We can't disagree whether or not you think I'm a person, whether or not you think I deserve to like Because anybody who thinks that you don't have autonomy over whether or not You should be able to do anything with your body probably thinks that they should be able to do anything to your body that they Want to at any time that they want to. So we see that so in contrast to that. I think I'm gonna do a high low Then Kamala Harris, I believe the next day and Sue can give us her personal experience She gave her closing remarks on the ellipse in Washington DC Which I thought the timing was perfect. I was so glad that she was able to Just You know, give a completely alternate vision and a brighter vision for America, which is what Americans to me, when I think about America and its promise, that's what we're about, not that bullshit we saw in New York, you know, she basically in her rally just cast him as a petty tyrant Um, who's unstable, obsessed with revenge, consumed with grievance, and out for unchecked power. And I think our guest just summed it up perfectly. I will say one thing, because yeah, I was there, but when she was like, Donald Trump is going to go in with an enemies list. I'm going in with a to do list. That's right. And I was like, I'd go in with both, but y'all know the Lord's not done with me yet. So, but, you know, that's why you running for president and I'm right here in the audience, waving at you. I personally don't understand how this man is still free. How do you, cause, I, remember Kathy Griffin had the secret service at her door over a joke. Snoop Dogg at the secret service at his door over a joke. This person is openly saying, threatening, I'm saying openly threatening current government officials and not, and not like, and not, and not just, not just, Threatening them, but inciting others to commit violence against them and then also threatening them with what your plans are to do to them if you were ever to get a chance to do it. So I just don't understand how There has to be a bar at some point. The bar is on the ground. Some of, my favorite things that she said was, you know, quote, Donald Trump has spent a decade trying to keep the American people divided and afraid of each other. That's who he is. But I'm here to tell you America that tonight, that's not who we are. And what better example of leadership, like, does it need to smack you in the fucking face? This woman is ready to be president. Like look at these split screens yet period. He is. So. Anyway, that was that. I guess I'll run down. I don't know if I should run down her endorsements because those are kind of fun So who we got this week? Okay, so this week, we got a lot. So during that Nazi rally, that's when those. But before then, I want to tell you that a lot of people, the feedback that I heard about Kamala's speech was that she killed, like the people like that, that's the speech. That's it. Even my fiance was like, that's a motherfucking speech. That's what I heard. Yeah, absolutely. I heard the same thing. It was so good. It was so well delivered. Well, straight to the point. Let me tell you, like the crowd was real. Like I said, I was like, I posted something, I was like, they'll say it was photoshopped. Like I literally looked, we got there. Kind of like in the middle. A hundred thousand people? No, it was more than that. It was 75. I know it was 75, but I think some people were saying maybe more. Well, I saw something that said like 50. I think on Fox News, they had like 52, 000. I was like, Hmm. It was 75. It was 75. It probably wasn't that many, but they gave it 52. Because I got, we got there right as they stopped letting people into the gated part. Like where you have to pass through security. Cause I I still had to work that day. I was like, none of y'all had to go to work today. Shout out to the lady from Brooklyn. Yes! The 7am Brooklyn lady. And she got the meat pommel and everything. It was so sweet. I'm glad she got that. Oh, nice! But needless to say, there was no phone, like I, I turned around and I look, cause we were close to the gate, but not like all the way, you know, inside. And I was like, Oh, okay. Yeah. It's going to start soon. Blah, blah, blah. I turned around. I saw a sea of heads. From where I was right next to the Ellipse going back to the Washington Monument. Yeah. There was nothing. I was like, Oh, they filled up quick. Right. Like people were just, it's like they flooded. I would have thought that they were photoshopped and I wasn't there seeing it in person. Right. And what did that feel like? What did that feel like? It filled up so fast. For me it felt like Obama's second inauguration because the first inauguration was like too packed and too cold Well, you could not move. Yeah, like the first inauguration you could not move. But one, it was, there were so many people, but it was, the crowd was so big. Gracious. Like there was no pushing. There was no, you know, there was a lot of, um, Oh, you know, watch out for that step. Oh, because people was walking all on the, on the grass and on the sidewalk. We were like, Oh, you know, watch out. There's a step there. Oh, you know, go ahead. Oh, you're with your friends. I don't want y'all to get separated. The line was so nice. Like it was it moved like there were people they were like You know how sometimes there's like lines that converge and you're like, uh, these people are definitely cutting lines. It was more like oh Yeah, I saw no squabbles about people getting in line there were people the elmo was there Was there on a skateboard? So we must be on the right team Um, and it was just, it was a lovely sounds like in America. You want to live in exactly like I said, like, and I don't do crowds. Um, so it was very apprehensive to even go in the first place, but. You know, I felt like it would be a historic moment, which, you know, I thought it was, there were protestors there, they have the right to protest. They do. They, you know, there were protestors there that were voicing their opinions on what's going on the genocide in Palestine, which they have the right to do. Um, so, and you know, I think that even among the protestors, I don't think anybody was like, you know, outwardly, opposed to them being there. Like it was hard to hear her over some of it at times, but you, them being like, people respected the fact that they had the right to be there, I certainly hope they're also going to vote the way that they've been protesting and showing up to rallies. I mean, I hope so too. I hope they vote for the person that doesn't think, that doesn't hire people to make jokes about like, you know, the Palestinians and the Israelis should just blow each other up already. Yeah, because I mean, they're definitely not the same candidate on Palestine, even if, you don't, you don't, I don't think that Kamala has done enough or what she can to, impose an embargo on, uh, weapons going to Israel. That's a whole nother episode. Exactly. Well, let's get to these endorsements, because they flooded in. So, I'll start with, obviously, Out of That Nazi Rally is where we heard the disgust of, um, There's so many, there's so many endorsements. Vile. Remarks about Puerto Rico. And so from that, um, Puerto Rican stars. And black people. Oh, the watermelon. The watermelon. The watermelon. Oh, yeah. I heard that. The carving of watermelons. We carve diamonds for Halloween. Like they called him a comedian. I, I had one joke and nobody was laughing. Like nobody was laughing. It's different. If you're a comedian, like even in that crowd, the jokes were bad. Even in that crowd, so anyway, um Back to our Puerto Rican stars who came out pretty much immediately. Um, Bad Bunny, Ricky Martin, and JLo backed Kamala after, you know, Trump's racist comments at his rally. And so since Trump likes numbers so much, I just thought we'd run down a few. Because Bad Bunny has 45. 7 million followers. Ricky Martin has 18. 6 and J Lo has 250 million followers. So Trump, if you're looking to sway votes from the Latino community, that wasn't too smart. Um, so that was that. J Lo also endorsed and campaigned with Kamala in Vegas. Let's see some of her comments at the rally. Basically, she said at MSG, he reminded us who he really is and how he really feels. Um, it wasn't just Puerto Ricans who were offended that day. It was every Latino in this country. It was humanity and anyone of decent character period because I was offended and I'm not Puerto Rican. I posted a list earlier this week of all the people that he has directly attacked all the groups And I mean like we said anyone who's not in white Anglo Saxon, I mean, which is stupid because he's not but um Anyway, there was Hitler but that didn't love her. I'm correct So, uh, LeBron James actually endorsed Kamala this week with a powerful montage. That thing brought me to tears. Um, and basically he was just like, what are we even talking about? And basically, you know, he kind of put Trump's words over images of like our past of us, you know, Being trampled on by police, dogs, um, the fire hoses, and Trump's comments about one very bad, you know, one really bad day of violence, and again, that notion that, you know, he's taking us back, and history will repeat itself. He's telling us what he's going to do. Well, that's why they wanted to make sure to take history out of the books and tell you that slaves were happy with it all. Because when he says black jobs, he means the immigrant that specific that he's when he says black jobs that immigrants are taking from you He means all that agriculture that y'all used to pick during slavery all the houses that you used to clean all the people's kids that you Used to watch all the nanny and cooking used to do whether you were cleaning in a hotel or cleaning somebody's home We want to offer you your jobs back because we don't appreciate you being up here trying to run for president. That part. We don't. We don't. Get back in your place, is what he's trying to say. That's what he intends to do. That's Project 2025. also George Bush's daughter. Who was knocking on the doors. She's actually knocking on doors. Yes. Go ahead. Barbara Bush. I don't know if it's junior for her or not because she's not the first, but she's too ahead. So I guess I will end with, um, are we, you got one more endorsement? I don't have any more endorsements. Go. Can I say it? Say it. Cause I want to say it. Yeah. So remember when. Trump had that rally and brought out that Puerto Rican artist that most of us didn't know by Nicky Jam and then referred to him as a she and says she was hot Well, Nicky Jam Is hotter than a goddamn collar this week because after he heard them, the Puerto Rico comments He literally took to his Instagram for 43. 5 million Instagram followers and told them that he was withdrawing his endorsement because of the recent comment breach. Now Trump doesn't even know who he is or because of what he said about Puerto Rico, specifically what he said. Okay. Okay. Uh huh. Yeah. So he, he, he literally went on to say, He started off by saying that like he had a poor like originally supported him because what he thought he could do for Latinos in the economy, but he said never in my life that I think one month later There will be a comedian who would criticize my country and speak poorly of my country and for that I would draw my support Puerto Rico should be respected All right Stand on That's what I'm saying. Stand on That's like a whole business. Uh. Where he was when he was throwing paper towels and telling them they were pouring a dirty eyeliner. Oh my God. This is not new. It's not. Um, and then so I guess to play clean up or give a Or damage control, whatever you call himself doing. Stupid. Um, he held a rally in New Mexico, trying to appeal to the Latino community. Nobody loves the Latinos more than me. And, he said he was there because it was good for his credentials. Okay, I'm only here because I have to, so I'm gonna get y'all's votes, please. And then he made up an excuse. It was just, again, more weird, racist rambling. But, um, Um, he made up an excuse for not really knowing how to refer to the Latino community. He was like, you know, it's weird when the East Coast in New York, they want to be called um, Hispanic. And then on the West Coast, they like to be called Latinos. Tell me you don't know none without telling me you don't know none. That hurt. You just a damn idiot. But, um, and then he was like, he said, but you know, they're, they're hardworking. They're very warm people. A little too warm sometimes. What? Yes. He said a little too warm sometimes. A little too warm sometimes. What the fuck does that even mean? What the fuck are we watching? Well, I mean, if he say, like, I'm, I'm, I'm, I'm a little lost because he literally commits sexual assault to people, so he's too warm. Weird. He's way too warm. Creepy. Rapey. Again, it's just giving gross. A little too warm? Yeah, maybe they were because they, they forgot some of the Latino, some of the Latino people especially Puerto Ricans forgot about how he treated Puerto Rico and other Latinos. Some, and I'm not just saying Puerto Ricans, but there are quite a few groups that have forgotten at times the things that he has said and decided to vote for him. At this point, I'm trying to figure out if he is just trying to, like, self assail because he is saying so much stuff every day, unprovoked, like, unprovoked, it's like nobody asked him no questions. And then you, and then not to mention, Latino guy with Puerto Rico is a trash can. Let's not forget his other joke. They like to have babies? He went from Puerto Ricans to liking to have babies because they keep coming inside. They don't pull out. They don't pull out. came in our country. He said they keep coming inside. Now what I don't know if he knows is that, does he know that Puerto Ricans are also Americans because it is an American colony? Cause, I'm just curious. I saw so many other podcast hosts like double down on that shit. It was disgusting. Like girl, like, like you all know your, your, your country is a trash can. You know, it's garbage there. Maybe had they gotten the government funding that they were promised after the hurricane and work stuff. going in and out of power outages and also didn't have like a full month of unexplained earthquakes continuously and tremors that kept coming girl i'm just like Let's just close. Cause we kind of talked about, I had did have, we talked about RFK Jr. a little bit, so we don't have to give him cool. We really need to vote against that because he does not need to be in charge of anybody's health. Yet, Kennedy told NewsNation that Trump asked him to reorganize agencies including the U. S. Center of Disease Control and Prevention, the National Institute of Health, That's what I wanted to say about, um, Food and Drug Administration. They want to, they want to, um, get rid of the CDC. Yeah, they want to do all of that. But let me tell you what the problem is with RFK. Make measles great again. Well, that's what he did. So he actually took his ass over to Samoa, if I'm not mistaken, and was going over there being extremely anti vax and was preaching about not getting measles vaccinations, and talk to the government about it and was doing a lot of lobbying. And immediately after that, the cases shot up exponentially and people, especially children of the Samoa Island died. So let's be serious about Mr. Dead bear, whale head or my car parasite in my brain, but I'm still okay to function. Let's just be honest and call a thing a thing. And the Kennedys don't even fuck with you. So you should just change your name. That part, your own family. I probably wish he does, like damn, today he was born a woman. He would have at least married off and changed it. Then it's going to be a Kennedy forever. So another story. I know that, gosh, guys. Okay, and then we're gonna end with the black. Okay. So I just to share this, they inundated us. There's been like 17, no, there was so many. So there have been, in addition to you know, day, there were like. Other women and stories from ProPublica that have come out of women in Texas, a young woman dying, due to not being able to get the medical care she needed. I actually saw a story of a Georgia mother who was pregnant with her second child and she was experiencing a second trimester, um, miscarriage. She started hemorrhaging. She got to Emory and her doctors, she said, are great, but. They made it very clear. We, we will save your life. We're going to do everything we can to save your life. However, we do have to Operate within Georgia's laws, which tell us that we have to wait until you are essentially dying to do the procedure to empty your uterus. And how long ago was this? Um, two weeks, two weeks ago, two weeks ago. It's not something that happened like immediately after dogs, like, um, the, like the earlier cases that we have learned about, a white woman. She was like, she's a white, she, this was a white woman who came and she's still alive. Yeah. Um, she was just saying that, you know, basically she waited and was bleeding hemorrhaging overnight until she, and you know, she was like, doctors, no one should be in this place where They have to wait and don't know and can't take the action to save her life. Because they know, they know exactly the procedure that they need to perform to do it. And what we've heard In Emory, I know personally they've been doing them for a long time. Yeah. And they can do them swiftly and save your life, but if they let you go in the sentence, you won't. And that's the thing. The response to that, so when, the hospital systems are pressed about, you know, what they're doing, they say, you know, now, as opposed to like immediately after DOBS, they might not have had the, like, infrastructure to deal with or to Appropriately address those things in a timely manner, but now that what they're saying is that they have the lawyers lined up like it's like, it's like a panel lawyer. Like you go in and it happens immediately. Yes. Emergency abortion. You may perform it. Go. And it's like a 15 minute process. First of all, this is two weeks ago. This was two weeks ago. That is a lie. Anybody's right. She was a white woman. That's exactly what she married. She's married. She's a mom. This was her second pregnancy. It does. And so I just was looking at the screen like, you know, thank God you made it. But I was like, yo, I just couldn't help but say to myself, her fate would not have been the same if there had been a black woman on that table. We all would like to hope so, but we just know that. But even her fate wasn't the best outcome because she's gonna take several months to even recover. And she was like, I would rather not be doing this, but I feel compelled. You, she's like, obviously I'm literally still healing emotionally and physically, so, you know, they, they were clear. She was, she was miscarrying. They were like, your life will be in jeopardy. We have to wait until it is to act. And she just sat there and bled overnight. Emory especially, Emory because they are, the most accounts that I've heard about, you know, the hospital administration, like seriously, addressing, what happened, especially after the news about Amber Nicole Thurman came out and she presented at an Emory hospital. Um, but, you know, since it, it's like, okay, We have, we have all of the tools that we need to abide by the law and to make sure that no one's You know, life is at risk and, that is still not the case. And that hadn't been the case even pre DOBS because, as we have discussed this before, that kind of emergency room care was still not being offered at a, in a timely manner, whereas your, not just your health, but your, your future fertility was not at risk. Exactly. So, we are grateful that she is still here and she's sharing this story, but yeah, you know, abortion bans kill period. And she was saying, she made that point. She was like, had I had been in Texas, I would have surely died. Like where there are even stricter bans than Georgia. So I'm going to wrap up my hangover with my highlights of the week. BET's black men's summit. I just want to, if you could put an applause, cheer, sound effect on this. I just want a big, okay. And I love when black men stand for our black women. And I have to say they have been going hard in the last couple of weeks from club Shay Shay to the black men's summit. To I saw something else earlier today with men who have been affected by, the black maternal health and some of them had lost their wives. They did in Georgia. They did a piece and they're out speaking about the realities of this in their lives and their children's lives. And I just want to, I love to see when black men love on black women like this, which is, which is annoying. Like we're not going to buy into this rhetoric that Black men don't love and protect black women and also don't vote democratic, which they and I, which I think the rhetoric has been to divide us. So I will say that BET did a great job, shouts out. It was DL Hugeley who hosted the event with other influential black men across various industries and backgrounds. Shout out, I join me some. Shout out to our boy. Scrap. Was there. Let's see, our boy DeVille was there, Michael Ealy, who else? I mean, it was just beautiful. And I love it. Jermaine Dupri, Kenny Burns, Jermaine Dupri. It was just beautiful. Former mayor. And I love how they broke down all of. The, the topics and the issues that are kind of like affecting black men and also our community in general. Oh, Ben Crump was there. NAACP President and CEO, Derek Johnson, National Urban League President and CEO, mark Morale. Rapper and philanthropist, Vic Mensa. Oh yeah, Vic Mensa. I need to hear some Vic Mensa though. I do too. I do too. I like his voice. Um, but anyway. So yeah, they started with her record as a prosecutor because obviously a lot of black men, even D. L., admitted that they bought into this idea that she locked up, Thousands of black men for marijuana charges. So they had some of them like kind of out talking to black men in different cities. Someone went out and asked black men about like how they feel about her record and stuff. And then they basically were like, you know, when I actually looked into it, it was only 45 men in total. And that wasn't even just black men. And then when we just look at her, you know, how progressive that she was in, in those roles. It just completely dispelled all these mistruths that they kind of bought into about her. So should we play that clip? Let's play it. Okay. Speaking to black men on the street in North Carolina, many brothers had concerns about Kamala Harris's history as a prosecutor, as did I, being victims of the prison industrial complex. Um, I'm a legal cannabis entrepreneur myself, so when I first heard the figures that she incarcerated thousands of black men for marijuana, I was very skeptical. Now when you look into the actual numbers, it was 45 men in total that were sentenced for marijuana charges, and that's not specified by race. Um, on the other hand, A main point of conversation is Donald Trump's storied history of racism. And uh, the reality is that you have a candidate here who is supporting ideas of blanket immunity for police. These are the police that are the modern day manifestation of slave catchers and overseers. And that blanket immunity is to give them freedom to kill us with freedom from prosecution. Another favorite clip that I personally love, um, gun violence activists stood up and he was sharing, you know, his experience being, A victim of gun violence and he shared his story about, you know, when he was shot and just absolutely it matters who is the president because it determines, especially when you have Trump out here talking about police immunity. And then he, he recalls going into the hospital as a gun victim and being treated like, um, the suspect getting questioned before getting service before getting help. So, we could roll that clip. Gun violence is the leading cause of death for black men under the age of 44. While with us in the audience is activist Greg Jackson, a gun violence survivor. On this issue, uh, Greg, I know it's very personal to you, but does it matter, uh, who's president? Gun violence issue? Does that matter? Yeah, D. L., um, It definitely matters. And I've had the honor of serving the White House, but I'm here in my personal capacity. This is personal for me. On April 2013, I was shot after a club let out and the bullet that hit me had two arteries. And I'll never forget getting to the hospital. And before I met my doctors or my surgeons, I met investigators and went through three rounds of investigation where I was literally bleeding to death and fighting for my innocence and for my life at the same time, just to find out that I had a 26 minute window left to live due to blood loss and a 50 percent chance of making it out of surgery. And I'll never forget that feeling of being seen as a suspect first and a person second. And unfortunately that's what we're seeing in our country. all over our country every single day. Raise your hand if you know someone who's been shot or killed by gun violence. I mean, look at this. Every single person in this room. This is the number one cause of death of black youth since 2006. And since I was shot, nearly a million Americans have been taken by this crisis. For me, that's one of my childhood friends. That was nearly me. Two of my mentees, one of which who came to Capitol Hill to fight for the policies to address gun violence. That's who we're losing in this crisis. And here we are, coming out of a, uh, coming into an era where we have a Vice President who has been working on this issue, has been leading the Office of Gun Violence Prevention, who passed the first law in 30 years, who has been focused on this issue almost her entire life, and literally, literally has ushered in the steepest decrease in homicides in American history, for now, two years in a row. But during the Trump administration, we saw the steepest spike in murders in American history. And that's not numbers. Those are our friends. Those are our family members. Those are our cousins, our nephews. And guess what he does? Brags about doing nothing. He says, well, we got to get over it. Get over it. I'm not getting over my mentee in the casket, watching his mother cry, watching his football coach. Wonder what are you going to do? Watching his teacher say, man, he was so full of promise. 13 years old. I'm not getting over that. We can't get over that. It's, uh, thank you, man. That's a good one. I loved when they started talking about black maternal health because they really got to some of the roots of, you know, scientific racism. They brought up eugenics. Thank the Lord. Yeah. And just, it was, it was just great to just see black men really championing, um, our issues, but also just, really doing the work of having the conversations talking about, they talked about, you know, the, economy, her, Economic policy, opportunity, like what that means to them, what that means for them, and how that wasn't just a gimmicky thing. It's not pandering. It's not pandering. How it came up about her actually meeting with men and listening. Asking them what they needed, what they wanted. Thank you. And then taking that and saying, you know what, instead of calling it, Here's my black men agenda. I'm gonna call it I'm gonna call it my opportunity economy. And I think it's ironic that some of these people who Or have been championing the other side. The only thing that they asked for black men to do was come wear a Meghan Mayer hat, Merica, Merica, great again. And bottom ugly ass shoes. And was like, yeah, of course we want to do something for black people. And then you had the likes of Ice Cubes and others going there, the Black Agenda, just so they could get a photo op with them. And very much so balling that shit up and throw it in the trash and never talking about it again. Another good thing that came out of that when they were talking about the economy. They were saying, so first they were talking about basically how a lot of people feel like they were doing better during COVID. And they were like, we have to remember that he inherited Obama's, economy. Well, and also from the gathering spot, it was like, but I don't know what y'all memories are like, but me and my friends wasn't getting the kind of funding that we needed. And before then we were struggling to even start our businesses. And then when COVID hit, Most people lost their shit. And yeah, it was even, even a worse, a further worse predicament than where they are. People got money that did not have actual business. And, and the reason we saw those stimulus checks and they were saying how Trump held up, he held up those Those checks so that he could put his fucking name on his signature or that it would have the effect of making people think that People like low hanging fruit know how to make other people And congress who made sure y'all got those checks. Yeah. Remember the democrats are going for 2k They didn't want to give y'all. Sure were. Sure were. And they rested on like 1, 200. 1, 200? 1, 400? I can't remember. 4 1. I think. I was still in law school. I didn't have a job. I had a job. My job was working in a public venue where sporting events, concerts, and all that other stuff happened. So they closed that down preemptively. Yeah. And they were like, yeah, so we don't want to lay all y'all off. Yeah. And here's your letter to go to unemployment, which thank them for doing that. So Alicia, right, right. I didn't even get my unemployment for the first two and a half months. I had to fight for it. Yeah, that was a, that was a wild time and it was not that long ago. I'm so glad that they addressed it because it's very frustrating for me to see people complaining about the fact that she came out with this agenda, which will undoubtedly help. You know, black men and others, but because what is the other side proposing for you? And, and, and how are we going to turn our noses up at some of the things she's proposing that 50, 000 in tax credits when you're starting a business is key. Well, that just, she was talking about giving people a grant to like grants to start and then that 50, 000 for your, after your first year. So both of those things together are phenomenal. One of them would be good. What are we talking about? What are we complaining about here? Because what you think, this is a woman who is listening and who cares and is proposing actual policies. Well, you said it right there. Woman, you're right. And they talked about that at the black man's summit as well. One thing that really, because you know, she is under his skin, the black, everything he's not. And she's a woman and she's a woman of color. But the black mazo is shorting out. That is polling around the same levels that for, Kamala as it did in 2016 for Hillary. And when race was not necessarily a factor, but gender was. Even in the Black Men's Summit. We can have our differences. They were like, you know, we benefit from patriarchy. Yes. Like, we have to acknowledge this. Oh. And then, but the only, the people who are. On that panel and tuning in and listening and being very active. I wish they would have amped it up a little more because I think it should have gotten more, uh, It should have gotten more. That's why I kept, I've been annoying everybody. I think it should have been shared on multiple platforms. I think it's very helpful. I've been annoying everybody because I'm like, go watch this. Every soundbite I can find. I was, I was crying during periods. That's how water works. Amber, Nicole Thurman's father was there. Yeah. Oh, yeah. So moved. And when he told his story about being in the waiting room and And no one even telling them that she was basically dying. You know, I always assumed that she must have gone by, like, because you will, you can go to an emergency room by yourself, or maybe you would think no one was there, or maybe with like a friend, in which case they can't tell your friend necessarily your medical information. I can get that. But to understand that you admitted her, you admitted her. Had her back there and did not update her family who was literally steps away in the waiting room. Mm hmm. That's a specific type of callous, you know what I mean? It just reminds you that in all of these systems, their systemic oppression and racism exists and it dehumanizes us because I feel like if you looked at her as a human being, how could you not? Go and explain or tell or provide updates. She has a family. She has a freaking child and they're in your eyesight Because these systems and a lot of people and I don't even know if sometimes I think a lot of it is subconscious unfortunately You have dehumanized us in your eye or in, in the system, all of the above, and it's just, it's prevalent. And it's, and it's going to be, unfortunately become more prevalent in, you know, the wake of this Dobbs decision and God forbid if Trump wins, um, and does away with healthcare. Period. Period. And stop. Like ACA? What's that? Right. What's that? So, I don't know. I just really want to shout out claps to the black men for doing that, the damn thing with that. It was so, it was much less thing and refreshing to see. And we love you. We stand our black men. You know, I'm always going to stand my black men. I do think it was important also, that was said during that summit, which was like, Hey, black men, they're trying to have a scapegoat and make us for the election for the election. And it's not, that's a good sound bite. We should play that who are trying to make them the scapegoat. It's very much. So the Republicans say, Oh, it must be black men not voting for her because a couple more might be voting for us. And they did for her. I mean, then Dems last time. So maybe y'all losing them. And they're like, we're not going to let you. We're not going to let them make us a scapegoat in contrast to what our actual facts and numbers prove and continuously have proven. You know what I found interesting about what you just said, in addition to those things, but there were things that were tailor made for us. There's, there are things for us, by us, to use a, use an acronym. Um, what part of our plan, Jermaine, uh, do you think will appeal to young people? How do, how do we reach young black men with the planning aspects of this plan? I just think we gotta get out in front of him and give him more information. Like, he was just, when he was just saying, I just raised my hand and tried to get a question in. Um, uh, um, why is it being said that, um, we, we are not voting for this election? I don't, I don't know. But I think it's because they want to scapegoat. They want to have somebody to blame. The election results on and they're not going to do that by blaming black men. We're not going to beat somebody's scapegoat. You know, you're absolutely right. But I think in addition, it's really the same old story. There is an attempt to fragment. Like, it's a legitimate question as to whether the vice president's support among black men is eroding. But an equally legitimate question is why is Dick Cheney and Jeff Flake and Geraldo Rivera not voting for Trump? Also, the second part that I really enjoyed about that was they actually had a conversation that was like, Black women have backed us up. Oh yes. Thank you. It was just so much girl. My mind is overwhelmed. It was just so much my best attack. Thank you girl. Cause I forgot about that. But that was another thing that really acknowledged that we have championed their issues forever, forever. And we, and we put our blackness before being a woman. Exactly. And it meant standing behind issues that have affected black men. So anyway, you know, that was a good followup to our good brother Roland Martin's conversation. And I almost wish they would have had him there for a little bit. I think, yeah, that would have been good. They did a great job. It's very powerful. If you haven't watched it, tune in and get you somebody with a BET plus subscription. Yeah. Cause you know, I got to watch my Zatima. I haven't watched it yet. They probably have a free trial. We should provide the information. Right. Do the free trial. So you can watch the Black Man Summit. And you might find some additional content that might be of interest to you. It is. There's some stuff on there. That wraps it up. Sue, do what you can with this. on that note, I feel like There is enough in the headlines and in social media to Implore everyone if you're registered to vote Even if you're not registered to vote you can still vote on election day. Election day is, November 5th. Tuesday. This Tuesday, so we're not confused, okay, not next Tuesday, not the following Tuesday, this one. Not a Decem uh, uh, Tuesday in January as Trump said it was. Or December. So I was just like, yes, please, if you're voting for Trump, go vote on January 6th by all means. Don't let me stop you. Listen. But, We are voting or have already, I think. Jen, did you already vote? Nah, I like to go on election day. I'm going on election day. I like to go on election day. I like election day. Last time I went to vote on election day. I think I said this before, it's like nobody in there. There was nobody. One time we go, I'll say this, I don't know if it's my location and so maybe I'll give it that Slack. But I talked to my mom because as we've been telling all of you all talk to people in your circles And oh and make your plan to vote. I got some exciting news for you guys I talked to my mom. I told asked her where she wanted to go. She likes to go election day That's what we're gonna do. They have it at the new library that opened up in my neighborhood. Oh nice Um instead at the former middle school slash community college excited about that, but Here's some here's some great shit That I love about DC. I talked to my brother this week. He unfortunately is, spending some time at DC jail at the current moment. Oh, I'm sorry. But guess what he did during his time? He voted. He voted early. And that he already passed his vote. And that he put his stuff in. So I just want people to stop discounting certain portions of our society. Because no matter what he's been going through he's been at inaugurations, inaugurations. Black Lives Matter stuff goes to vote and usually we all go together So it was very warming for him to tell me that he already went, but I was just very happy to hear that and I wanted to share that with you guys Oh Very much so appreciative that DC is one of those places where people who are Have committed crimes or are facing crimes Or just like in the system because of whatever reason yeah, but i'm saying like for some places even if you get Even if you're But here not only can you still vote yeah, but even if you happen to be incarcerated you can vote I was kind of sad for him because I was like then we usually go vote And I know that's something that really matters to him. That's dope. That's so I was like, you know, I shared this with my people But he's excited that's dope because we know that the, you know, prison industrial complex is another one that seeks to disenfranchise us, so it's beautiful that, um, DC is not doing that. That's awesome. It warmed our heart to hear, so I was like, I gotta share this with people. And I asked him if it was okay if I share some. Well, we wish him all the best and hope that he comes home soon and he's doing well. Yeah. He's got some great things lined up ahead of him. I know that's right. I know that's right. So, Election Day is Tuesday, November 5th. If you're registered to vote, Go vote on November 5th if you're registered everywhere, you can go vote on November 5th. Even if you are not registered, you can go vote on November 5th in these states. California, Colorado, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, North, New Mexico. Not North nothing. North Carolina. And so, North Carolina, you can only register on early voting days. Dang, I thought you could register and vote on the same day in April. New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, Connecticut, District of Columbia, Idaho, Maine, New Hampshire, Washington, and Wyoming. That's it. That's like, that's a lot. That's a good, that's a good like 20 states. That's what I'm saying. So DC people who are tuning in, I understand that there are different precincts. That you need to vote in, uh, or that you are registered to vote in. No, you can vote anywhere. For the presidential election, you can vote at any precinct. Yeah. You just cannot vote DC out here being great. Yeah, you just can't vote for maybe like your ANCs or councilpersons if you're not voting at your actual precinct. But that does not mean that you can't still cast your presidential ballot. So show up and DC is one of those places that doesn't have an ID law. So if you don't have it, that's okay. The most that you'll need to do is be able to give your name. Usually they'll ask your address. They'll look for you on a list. They'll give you a provisional ballot to fill out. Still cast it. Yeah, still cast that provisional ballot. We wish that you were able to vote at all levels, but if it comes down to to the wire, And you go to the closest pole that is to you before it closes at 8 p. m. on Tuesday. Just get in there. Get out and get in there, okay? And luckily for D. C. residents, uh, most places are either at schools or libraries, very sim Right. But very communally located, so please try to get out and get there. And if you feel like the lines are too long for you, there are several of them in the city of Dryden. and get out, then go do that. I guarantee you the lines aren't going to be long because people, D. C. is one of the places. That mail, automatically mail every voter a mail in ballot that you can either return via mail, you can drop it into a ballot box. Every state does not do that. So a lot of states you have to request, like you can vote by mail, but you have to request those ballots. Um, and a lot of states also just, they, they still have kind of like an absentee ballot like system where you have to meet certain criteria in order to qualify for an absentee ballot. So, VC just mails everybody a mail in ballot. And, you don't even have to bring it in. If you vote in person, you don't have to bring it in. You just go and cast your vote. Um, so, if you're, if you're registered, amazing, go. And you already early voted even better. If you're not even better, because I'm voting on election day. And I mean, we all are and that's okay. As long as you cast your vote, polling location closes on November 5th. Or if you're in line to cast that vote. Absolutely. When the polling location closes, you. Don't let them tell you you can't vote. Please call the election protection hotline if someone is telling you that you cannot vote. And you're in line. Yeah, very much so. Yeah I was gonna say we also have posted a couple of places where you can contact like if you have conflicting information if they're telling you That you can't like do your preliminary ballot in a state that you have that That it is in their laws to allow you to be able to do that Please please please give those places a call. If you are a person who is mailing in a ballot, some states do have websites where you can track to see if your ballot's been received. If you are concerned that your ballot has, can potentially have not been received, or if you are concerned that maybe you live in one of those states where people have been setting ballot boxes on fire because we didn't even get a chance to get with that, but all the craziness of these crazy people, but that has been happening with other crazies around this country and at least like three or four different states where it was documented. Some of which were ballots might've gotten minimally damaged if any other which it would like. Quite a few have been destroyed. Yeah, so what I will say is that if you are unsure If you want to make sure not even if you are unsure if you want to make sure that your vote is counted If you were doing a mail in ballot or a mail in ballot via Dropbox You do also have the option to go in person and cast your ballot in person to make sure that it is received your state board of election or your state secretary of state website And get the prop the information pertaining to Voting by mail all of the information is there on the state's website literally every state conducts elections differently and independently it is under the the secretary of state for the most part or any election boards that are set up by the state government it is under their purview to Determine how elections run in the states You It's different in every state, which is why different states have different timelines of voter registration. And why some states offer early voting, some states don't. Some states offer, you know, vote by mail. You know, for no reason at all besides the fact that you don't want to leave the house and some states make you say that you are sick and shut it. Yeah, and you jump through hoops to get it. Yeah, so go to your states. Website, either the Board of Election, every state has either a Board of Elections or a Secretary of State website that has the information. If you are not sure, there are a few resources and websites that you are you can go to that have the most comprehensive information for every state one is vote.org. You can just. Put that in and take you where you need to go. Um, also BET has developed a really comprehensive website with WeVote BET slash WeVote. Oh, I like that. It's and it really is awesome because this website has Assembled a lot of resources about the candidates Um, in the different states, which we'll talk about in a second. And it's really, it's a good, resource for all types of information, uh, persons who have been formerly incarcerated and restoring your right to vote. If you want to volunteer for any of the initiatives or campaigns that are going on, you can check your registration. You can, as Jasmine mentioned earlier, ID requirements. They are different in every state. D. C. has a very liberal, uh, ID, voting ID policy. There are some states that are very strict in the IDs that they require when you show up to vote. So you need to know exactly what you need to bring with you on election day in order for you to successfully cast your vote. a resource that, some people have been, mentioning to me is, Vote411, which is, organized by the League of Women Voters. And they also have, resources that will tell you about what's on your specific ballot, um, in, in wherever you live in the jurisdiction that you'll be voting for. So that is another resource. I feel like you should be able to find all of the things that you're looking for pertaining to voting on the, on, on any of those websites. Also if you need a ride to the polls, Um, the na, the NAACP is partnering with Lyft, uh, to Provo to provide transportation for voters to the polls. The code is N A A C P. V O T E 24. So that's N double A C P, vote. And that is all caps, so again, N A A C P V O T E 2 4, all caps, and that's on left, and, and that's valid, but not just on the way there, they give you a two ride, they take you there, they take you home. Okay, that is amazing. I do understand that some people live in more rural areas where a ride to the polls via Lyft or Uber is not necessarily something that is accessible, but for all who live in an area where they do have options to ride share apps, specifically, please use the code, save yourself 40, go down to that book, get your vote in, come back, you can spend the money you would have spent to get there, or celebrate the fact that you voted. That's right. Okay? We'll celebrate with you. Yeah. Or, you know, maybe you needed something for the household, put that money on there. Kamala and I tried to take the money out your pocket, she said just come out here, protect democracy, and go ahead and have a good time. Amen. Alright. Alright. All right. Well, in addition to the presidential ticket, there are a lot of other races that are going to show up when you go to cast your ballot. The presidential race usually dominates the headlines There are several other races that you'll probably see on your All of them are very important. The, the lower down on the ballot you get, the more important that race is. Mm-Hmm. to directly impact your lives and the lives of your family. So we just wanted to highlight a couple of the things that people might see on the ballot. And like I said, BET has a very competent, comprehensive, resource on their website. BET WeVote, that, People can go and research some of the candidates that might show up on their ballot. In terms of governor's races, um, there are 11 states in 2024 that are holding gubernatorial races. I think the top of the list of what I'm going to be watching for on election night is North Carolina, where, um, the, the incumbent governor, Rory Cooper has been an amazing job, but he is not able to run, um, for another term as governor. His term limited. He's just amazing. So Josh Stein, who is currently serving as the Attorney General of North Carolina, is running against How this man became Lieutenant Governor is I guess that was before he was a black man. It's a split ticket. Yeah, it's a split ticket. I understand that. I understand the logistics of it. She's out there like a pick up and drop. But it's Him is what I have. Exactly. So Mark Robinson is opposing Josh Stein for Governor in North Carolina, and he's running If you haven't You haven't heard much about Mark Robinson and you live in North Carolina and you're curious about, um, who he is and, and, and what, just, just Google, just please Google his name. There's nothing I can say that would do it justice more than you watching the videos and listening to the, um, the words from his mouth. So, yeah, so that is one of the, that is one of the top races that I'm looking at in terms of, gubernatorial races. Also in Washington, Jay Inslee, who has been governor in, Washington state. He is not running for reelection. The Democrat running, to fill his seat is Bob Ferguson. In addition to North Carolina and Washington, there are gubernatorial races, um, in Indiana, in New Hampshire, Chris Sununu, who is uh, more moderate Republican, is not running for re election, so that's gonna be a race that, is going to be very interesting to watch. Also in Delaware, Missouri, Montana, North Dakota, Utah, Vermont, and West Virginia let's stay, let's stay with the state legislature. We'll get to federal always goes first. And I'm a, I'm a state policy person. So I would love to talk about, um, What's going on in the state houses and for a lot of people who might be apprehensive about how How, um, impactful their vote is and how, you know, maybe the visions of the people who, represent you in Washington don't necessarily reflect your values and your views and what's going on in your community. State legislatures impact or decide the majority of the policies that you are most concerned with. They decide, first of all, the fiscal budget for your own state, and that's in terms of healthcare, that's in terms of law enforcement and public safety, that's in terms of um, education, even though the federal government does, fund certain educational initiatives, But in terms of a lot of things that actually impact the community, those things happen at the state legislative level, um, especially in terms of reproductive rights now that it's been returned to the states Because thanks to Trump that's apparently what everybody wanted. That is not what everybody wanted. We need, abortion access needs to be constitutionalized again. Health care access. Yes. Period. Reproductive care access needs to be, a constitutional right, and it even, it needs to be stronger than the protections that Roe gave. But, I'll digress from that because we're talking about state legislatures now. But a lot of what's happening in terms of reproductive rights is happening on the state legislative level. Every state except one has two legislative bodies, pretty much just like Congress. You have a Senate or a upper body, and typically a House of Representatives or House of Delegates, which is the lower body. There is one state, and that state is Nebraska, that has a unicameral legislature. They have one legislative body that just does all the shit. So. Out of the 99 state legislative chambers, 85 of those chambers are up for election in 2024, meaning people in 44 out of 50 states. You will have a state legislative candidate on your ballot. Now, in terms of who you are voting for, some of those resources that I mentioned earlier, especially the League of Women Voters, vote411. Org, will have a ballot, that is going to have the candidates that you can consider. And a lot of places, unfortunately, especially for state legislatures, they're not very competitive. They're not contested either. they're predominantly Republican, and they're unopposed by a Democrat, or they're predominantly Democrat and unopposed by a Republican. So, a lot of, a lot of cases, you might find that there's only one candidate on your ballot to vote for. It's okay if you don't want to vote for that candidate. Do not let anyone tell you that you have to cast a vote for every race on your ballot in order for it to be valid. That is not the case. You can cast your ballot and it will be valid even if you don't vote for every election on the ballot. It's okay if you don't it's okay if you do because at the same time if there's only one candidate on the ticket Chances are that they will be elected. So it's like okay also people I saw something this week That kind of alarmed me about people speaking about voting And I was like, well, I, I don't get the point of like voting or not voting, but I mean, I guess like, I guess I should vote anyway. But that doesn't mean that you have to vote for either of the candidates. You could rate somebody in or right. Vote for a third party. And to that, I say in the words of our good system, Instagram. Oh, so you'll and the girl, the words about Good Girl on Instagram. And to that I say. Thank you, because you all are ignorant, and so let me tell you why you shouldn't be just writing something in. We're talking about a primary. We're talking about someone who may be a popular candidate, like in terms of not be representing one of the major parties Yeah, you can write them in then once we get past primaries period It is not a game You literally could have not voted if you're gonna come in there and write yourself in or your homeboy or somebody else, you know or scooby doo, you might as well just you might as well say no vote because Honestly, to spend all of that act, to spend all of that effort to go and do nothing when it comes to whatever candy you're going to throw. And the only person who's going to know that that happened is you. Unless you take a picture of it and put it on social media. Because they're not going to record it and publicize it. They're not going to tell you about it. The random person that you decided to write it, your friend, your colleague, whoever else, your pet, will not win. None of those things were ever a popular thing unless we're talking about a primary and somebody who has the amount of populace behind them. So, when we're talking about it, I think we need to dumb it down. Because I think some people still don't get it. If you have a classroom, if you are in, well, has a child in a classroom, if they say, hey, The options are oranges and apples to vote on for what we will have as snaps for kids And then you decide to write in bananas because you like bananas two years ago. You know what's not gonna happen? Nobody's gonna vote for bananas, okay? Nobody's getting bananas. Bananas is not an option and now Just because you prefer bananas, but maybe you have a citrus allergy and you would have been fine with an apple. Now you've sat out and allowed other people to make choices and you might end up with your orange that you will have an allergic reaction to because you thought that picking any random thing was you standing up and doing your part for democracy. When we get here, that's not how the game works. Two teams. You either got one or you got the other. That part. Okay, y'all know sports. There's only two motherfuckers playing in the game. You can like all the teams you want. You can't pick them to win. If you are betting, you got one or the other. And if you pick somebody else, you know what you definitely not gonna do? Win no goddamn money because you're not gonna get anything. It's not an option. Yeah. So let's stop having this thing where it's like, Oh, well I feel some type of way so I'm gonna do whatever the hell I wanna do and I'm gonna put my foot in the ground because I'm a kid and everybody else wants to play with the swings or be in a basketball court, but I'm gonna be in a seesaw. Nobody else on the seesaw with you. Please stop it. I need everybody to be serious. Right. Being an adult. Stop having these temper tantrums where because it's not something that you particularly like or isn't your best choice, you're going to stomp your feet in the ground and I'll tell you what, it might not be something stupid. No, it helps no one including yourself because we all have the actual repercussions to deal with. Yeah. After this, I'm sorry. All right. Can I say one thing every week? One thing we know, jazz going to hit us with an analogy that deals with fruit. I think she's been getting it every since episode one. I just, I just great job on the analogy, sis. That's all I have to say. I mean, people understand food. You don't need to break it down to me. The food, the food, the food analogy. All right. So in terms of federal races, so we all understand that the state legislatures and who you have as governor. It makes a difference. The governors deter are pretty much the presidents of the states, um, and the legislatures, or the Congress of the States. So the federal races are still very important because there's a lot of important federal legislation that is decided by the House of Representatives and the Senate. So. Yeah. All 435 seats in the House of Representatives are up for election in 2024. Members of the House, they have elections every two years, they're elected for two year terms, and Senators are elected for six year terms. So that's why sometimes it doesn't always, um, align that all Senators are up for election, but all House seats are always up for election, so, if you are voting in a state or in territory, you are voting for someone on the ballot to represent you on the federal level in the federal legislature. So in terms of some of the races, so 34 seats are up in the Senate and that will honestly determine control of the Senate. Currently the Democrats have the majority, there are several races that will decide who is going to control Congress going into 2025. One of those races that we've talked about before on the podcast is in Maryland. Current Prince George's County executive, Angela Alsop Brooks, is running against the former, Republican, please vote for her, Governor Larry Hogan, who has tried to disavow his Republicanism as much as he can until he can't and now he's Been endorsed by Trump or whatever. He got caught bragging about being endorsed by Trump in a closed tour. Secretly being endorsed by Trump. Was anybody surprised by that? No, I mean, no one is surprised. I'm surprised about how long he went on with this lie. It's like, sir, come on. I just wanted to impress upon our listeners that, one of the other reasons obviously the Senate and, House races are so important is because It determines how successful and effective of a presidency we have in the administration is because this is who is going to determine whether or not the agenda can even be passed. Right. So, all of the things that Kamala is, is promising, yes, they are very aspirational in terms of what you can get done. A lot of them need. But congressional, right, a lot of them need to be passed by Congress. Right. You cannot, you cannot executive order everything. You cannot. Well, I guess, apparently according to the U. S. Supreme Court. According to Congress 2025, maybe can, but if you do not want to be an authoritarian dictator, you cannot executive order everything. Supreme Court says you can just do whatever you want if you're president and just call it presidential terms. That was in terms of criminal acts. But. Oh, right. But yeah, in terms of legislation, she's still going to need Congress. She's still going to need a, in terms of the Supreme Court, which hopefully, fingers crossed, we will have, Some vacancies that become, uh, available in the Supreme Court on the nine justices, or we'll just have additional justices added on to the Supreme Court. That is not why I'm here. I'm not here to talk about a court expansion, but if you want to look it up, um, but. In terms of whether she is able to get any of her, not just Supreme Court nominees, but federal judicial nominees at the, um, at the district court and the court of appeals level, which is where Court cases start before they reach the Supreme Court. They have to go through the federal court level and in turn, especially in terms of cases that are concerned reproductive rights. Those cases start in some of these district courts that have been infiltrated by Trump judges that should never have seen the inside of a courtroom You know, but I digress. In order to get those nominees that she is going to nominate to the judicial appointments, She needs a majority in the Senate So the Democrats need to control the Senate in order for her to get any of her judicial appointments put on the bench. So that is one very key thing. Thank you, Jen, for, for bringing that up. Um, in terms of where we are in the Senate races, there are so many, contested races that we're going to be. looking at on election night, um, in terms of who is going to control the Senate. So in Arizona, which is a swing state, Kristen Sinema is not running, um, for, she's the incumbent and she's not running for, reelection. Ruben Galleo, who is a current, um, congressman from the state of Arizona is running against Carrie Lake, the once, democratic, news. woman turned, Republican gubernatorial candidate who lost, in 2022, and now is back for Another hit to run for a senator. Like she's just, there's a lot of split voting going on. Cause a lot of, even if people in Arizona who support Trump, they are not feeling her. So she's, I mean, that's just what kind of privilege do you have when voters reject you once at the, at the state level, like for a statewide, a wide election. And you come back and you're like, you know what? Y'all must have not got it right the first time. Let me try this again. So, um, yes, Ruben Gallo is the Democratic, candidate in that race. And he's been a good, champion for not only reproductive rights, but parental rights, especially in Congress. In Florida, Rick Scott is running again. He is the Republican candidate on the ticket against Debbie Muscarelle Powell, in Michigan, Alyssa Slotkin is the Democratic candidate running against the Republican Mike Rogers. In Montana, John Tester, who has been In the Senate for a while, and he's been a solid, Democrat in terms of, the agenda. He's running a really tight race against the Republican, Tim Sheehy. In Nebraska, Dan Osborne is an independent running against the Republican incumbent, Deb Fischer, and they're, they're thinking that he might have a chance. I mean, it's Nebraska, but we'll see. Nevada, Jackie Rosen is the Democrat incumbent running against the Republican, Sam Brown. Ohio, Sherrod Brown is a long serving Democrat incumbent running against a, interesting candidate in, Bernie Moreno, who if you might, if that name sounds familiar, it might be because he went viral a couple weeks ago for, questioning why women over 50 would be interested in reproductive rights as a voting issue because They don't have to worry about getting pregnant and then hoping that his wife didn't hear him say that so, yeah, that's, that's the candidate running against Sherrod Brown. In Ohio, in Pennsylvania, a swing state, the swingiest of swing states. Bob Casey, another long serving, incumbent. Senator is running against David McCormick, who has been infiltrated with a lot of big billionaire donor money in Pennsylvania. And I think the rumor is that he ain't even from Pennsylvania. He's from Connecticut. So he's like, I was like, what is it with Pennsylvania? Because then Dr. Oz ran for He ran for Senator against, John Fetterman and he didn't even live there either. So, yeah, we're just, yeah. And, also in, Wisconsin, Tammy Baldwin is running to defend, um, Hersey as an incumbent. The Democrat Tammy Baldwin, she's an amazing champion for reproductive rights, is running against, um, Eric. The Hulk, the Huffy, I'm not sure how you say that I'm sorry, I can't say that in English. Eric Hove dee. Hove dee. Okay, and then in West in West Virginia, Joe Manchin, of course, is not, uh, running for re election. No, not the independent. Not the Republican, that's the Democrat. Right, exactly, so, um, Good riddance, I'm sorry, but yeah, best of luck. Um, Glenn Elliott is the Democrat running in West Virginia against Jim Justice, who is the current governor in, in West Virginia, West Virginia, do you have a chance? And I know that you all have a heart because I drive through West Virginia, Western Maryland, Western Pennsylvania, and Western parts of Virginia. Vote Glenn Elliott. And I see, I see some of the big Trump signs, but I also see A fuck ton of Harris Wall signs. I love that. Oh, that's crazy. In the mountains. Oh, wow. West Virginia. I know that's right. And even Western Virginia. Yeah. I saw, I saw. Cause you know, the Trump people, they like to put their shit on. Girl, people are moving out to Western VA. Mm hmm. Ma'am, you don't know how much she's raised for that. Exactly. Well, yeah, and, um, I mean, Tim Kaine is, is running, for a re election, in Virginia, uh, running against, Republican, candidate Hung Kao. Um, It appears that, oh, his is one of the races that are, are pretty safe, and there's a lot of other races. Those are the ones that general, other races that are pretty much safe for the incumbents or the party that's, uh, currently in power, on the list of Toss up races is one that I don't think any of us saw on our purview in Texas. Yeah. Colin Allred, former NFL. star, civil rights lawyer. After he got out of the NFL for like a couple of seasons, he was like, you know what, I think I'm gonna, I'm gonna go get me a law degree. And he did that. And he, he became a civil rights lawyer and he is currently in the house of representatives. And he's, he calls himself one of the most, bipartisan members of the House of Representatives. Collin is amazing. He's amazing. In this climate, that's the only way that you can get shit done. Right. And so, I don't fault him for being someone who wants to see progress because that's what I hear when I hear bipartisan in the House of Representatives and in Congress. So he is running a very, strong campaign against the combat who, like, really nobody, even like Ted Cruz, like people don't even like him. They don't, well, Republicans don't even like him like that. red is running a very strong campaign After all is said and done. And the dust settles from this election and we'll see what happens in texas Any progress that happens in texas, I think can be attributed to beto o'rourke. Oh, yeah who has been Let's put our hands up. Beto O'Rourke. Putting the ground game on get out the vote initiatives in Texas since his unfortunate loss against Grant Abbott for Governor in 2022. But he is an amazing Individual and he has really like him and, and Stacey Abram saying, we need god damn goddamn keys to the country. Them something, shit go wrong. Give them gold medal. People in gold medals, they fine. So that is a testament. Testament to, you know, God has a plan for all of us. I'm not trying to get too preachy, but sometimes. Sometimes the no's in life are are the not with these people right now's in life. Wait till later in life. And the things that, or I have something else, something better for you, something better in life and I think that, so we'll see what happens. I really take my hat off to them because that's just truly the commitment to like democracy and being a civil servant. Anyone can lose and be like, you know what, I'm done with this. Or, or I could lose and be like, there's no way I could lose. I'm just going to knock over everything. But to lose and continue to organize and continue to strive for the progress. And not just work for your goal, but work for the goals of others. Even if you see that you might not be the person at the top. Exactly. That speaks to the real character of people. Right. Yes. And also, again, with some of the people that we're running to on the other side, we really have to start asking ourselves, not about the entertainment quality. but about the actual content of their character, what it means, what it means going forward. I can't remember who said the quote, but when, when people tell you, Who they are, believe them the first time. You know what I mean? Thank you. Thank you, good sis. Um, but like, believe them the first time. You don't need somebody to tell you who they are. Build you a a billboard. Then have a PowerPoint presentation. Then walk you through all the steps. And then mail it to you in a very neat package. There are some people in our communities who do get wrapped up into these very propaganda type of messaging. Oh yeah. With no basis, with no And unfortunately, not just no basis, but no facts, no nothing else. Um, and also not with their own benefit, in mind. So I think it is I think it's a necessary thing that we do just to talk about it. Yeah, in terms of the Senate. There are 34, seats. Each state has two seats. There are 100 in total. 34 of them. Up for re election? Up for election. Election. Um, all 435 seats in the House of Representatives is up for election. We won't go through all 435, but you can go, the resources on BET or vote. org or vote411 or when we all vote there are so or even if you need to go to Ballotpedia, like nobody, like that's a very versatile resource. Google it. Yeah, I googled it because I wanted to see the other, people on the ballot. Yeah. And, um, and they actually will include a nice link to the website. Yep. If you need it's, yeah. And I do appreciate that they do it by state as well. It's just a link and a scroll. It's not, that's it, it's not hard to, it's very easy to, to figure out. Um, every person has one. House of representative member that they will vote for. States are divided into districts that members of the house represent based on the population of their districts. Um, some districts are heavily gerrymandered, especially, With the outcome of recent Supreme Court cases, especially in Alabama. It's important to vote! It's important to vote! There's one race that is actually, I want to highlight too, because In Alabama's second congressional district, there's a black man who is running a Democrat, Shamari Figures he's running, for a seat that has been dominated by Republicans for the past six decades. Um, and the recent Supreme Court, decision Alabama to redraw their congressional districts so people are, Looking at this district to be more competitive for the Democrats because it has been redrawn to include more of the black population of Alabama. Did they put them all in one bubble so that way the rest of Alabama is split up into 17 different things that's nothing but non blacks? So basically Alabama was like, we only need one mostly black district and the Supreme Court was like, no, y'all need At least, y'all need to, which is the opposite of what they said with South Carolina, so the Alabama decision was somewhat of a positive, if I can say that anything positive happened out of the Supreme Court, cause they were essentially trying to put all of the black population into one district. Into one district. And so they made them split it up into two districts, and then South Carolina, they were trying to gerrymander it to, It was the area in and around Charleston, they were trying to gerrymander it to include, less of the black population, and the Supreme Court was like, no, they are doing it because their interest is in, the political parties of those candidates, not their race, because you can gerrymander based on political ideology, but you can't gerrymander based on race. And so those things are so no matter if the people can't majority the people, course those things according to race. Supreme Court race. Exactly. Because most black residents of South Carolina vote Democrat. That's not something that they, they, that they consider. Yes, so, there's an interesting race in Alabama in the 2nd congressional district. So, we'll keep an eye on that. Good luck to the candidate Shamari Figures. If you're in Alabama, vote on election day because Alabama does not offer early voting. Jen. Is our do something this week? Just like. Vote. Vote motherfucker. Vote. We got to leave everything on the field, leave it all on the field, leave it all on the democracy. Just ask LaProm. So, yeah, so I think other than like getting your people out, making sure you're everyone in your network has voted. Um, you can be a part of somebody's final text campaign, somebody's final like calling. And also there's. Literally pushes to carpool to swing states and knock on doors in these final days. Do your part go vote And if you need a drink, it's okay. You can have one. Yeah, and if you're, you know in a state where it's legal smoke with that shirt Whatever advice that you need to get to get through it to get your ass to the pole Get through november 50. If you need to take a please indulge and laugh your way to the pole laugh there But just make sure you're serious about your indulge. However, you see fit, but we will see you On the other side, we're going to have a bonus episode talking about what we can expect on election night, because I know it's going to be, we need to prepare ourselves. So, we will see you later. Cheers! Cheers! Okay, my phone died.
