Welcome to Faith Fiction and Folklore, as we like to call it the Tri F podcast, where we try not to mess the podcast up. If you are on your phone, we tried to be all professional, but apparently doing a live stream on YouTube requires it to be in that stupid short format, so you'll have to turn it around if you want to not look at it sideways.
SPEAKER_00I would say lock your screen and then turn your phone aside.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, so that's gonna that's gonna be irritating. We'll fix it and post. So anyway.
SPEAKER_00Uh Jesus is right. Let's uh let's read the Bible, guys. You on Genesis or uh gospel? Yeah, we're on Genesis 34 today. Let's post the mouth. Yeah.
SPEAKER_01Alright. We got the big ones because we can't do share screen either. Just awesome. So oh, I turned to Genesis 37. Look at me go. Look at you. Yeah. Alright.
SPEAKER_00I got it.
SPEAKER_01So we're starting this week. We did last week uh Genesis 33. Now we got a um comment. Obviously, we're not where we normally are, so we tried to do a remote and get things set up a certain way, but uh unfortunately the tech is somewhat limited in this regard. We didn't get it figured out exactly right. So we're gonna do it the best we can this way. Um now last week there was a debate amongst a couple of people in the comments about what exactly um Dinah, like what exactly Dinah's role was in the whole situation with uh the man that took advantage of her and um well that was the debate.
SPEAKER_00They were debating about whether or not Roth Folly meant meant um whether or not Roth Folly had something to do with genetic, if it had genetic connotations whereas like uh you know the story was pertaining to genetics.
SPEAKER_01Was the can was the encounter consensual or violent? And was the moral of the story more about genetic dilution as opposed to violence? Right. And so we wanted to look at that and dig into it deeper, but we didn't get the chance. So we're going to try to do that next week when we actually have resources. Um so for this week. Does that sound okay?
SPEAKER_00Um big dates in the comments.
SPEAKER_01Oh, they're saying we're on mute.
SPEAKER_00Right. Sound like crap. Okay. Somebody say we're on mute. No, they said duh du da da.
SPEAKER_01Well, that doesn't tell us anything at all. It's fine, let's just read the Bible. Yeah. So we're gonna try to do a deeper in-depth study on that next week. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00This week we're gonna do Genesis chapter 34. Uh, do you wanna read it? Sure. I'll start up. And Dinah, the daughter of Leah, which she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land. And when Shishem, the son of Hamor and Hivite, prince of the country, saw her, and he took her and lay with her and defiled her. And it sold clave unto Dinah, the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel. Well, I'm an idiot.
SPEAKER_01We need to be starting with 35. This is this looks awful familiar. Yeah, this is the one everybody was fighting about. Right. So that's my mistake. No, I'm Genesis 34, Genesis 35. I'm Did we title the episode wrong?
SPEAKER_00Yes. Wow. We really effed the podcast up this year.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah, that's that's great.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Idiot!
SPEAKER_01All right.
SPEAKER_00So, okay, yeah. So would you mind starting with Genesis 35? Sure can, but God said unto Jacob, Arise, go up to Bethel and dwell there, and make there an altar unto God that appeared unto thee when thou fledest from the face of Esau, thy brother. Then Jacob said unto his household and to all that were with him, put away the strange gods that are among you and be clean and change your garments. Let us arise and go up to Bethel, and I will make there an altar unto God, who answered me in the day of my distress and was with me in the way which I went. And they gave unto Jacob all the strange gods which were in their hand and all their earrings which were in their ears. And Jacob hid them under the oak, which was by Sheshem. It had to be a big tree, huh? Yeah, yeah. A big tree.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, I think you're right. Uh I'm an idiot. I think we read this one last week, too. What is the matter with me? I'm like a week behind. What a crud. You're in your environment, man.
SPEAKER_00You're gonna go to 36?
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're gonna go to 36. I don't know why I had it in my head that it was. We're doing it live. Yeah, this is very live, can you tell?
SPEAKER_00So wow. Thanks, Okimba. What do you say? That's sad we sound good.
SPEAKER_01Alright, thank you.
SPEAKER_00Alright. 36. 36. Let's try again. Alright, take three. Now, these are the generations of Esau, who is Edom. Esau took his wives of the daughters of Canaan, Ada, the daughter of Elon. Elon Musk. Not even those. They have electric cars in the Bible, Gary. Elon the Hittite. Uh and Ahobal Wolf Emera, the daughter of Ana, the daughter of Zibeon the Hivite, and Bashemeth, Ishmael's daughter, sister of Nabajoth. And Ada, bare to Esau, Eliphaz, and Bash Shemeth, bare rule. I butcher him. Okay, I'll help.
SPEAKER_01Okay, and Aholabah, Aholabamah, Aholabamah, when I say that, bear Jaush, and Jalam and Korah. These are the sons of Esau, which were born unto him in the land of Canaan. Bro, we need to skip this entire. We're going to get through it. And Esau took his wives and his sons and his daughters and all the persons of his house and his cattle and all his beasts and all his substance, which he had got in the land of Canaan, and went into the country from the face of his brother Jacob. For their riches were more than that they might dwell together. And the land wherein they were strangers could not bear them, because of their cattle. Thus Esau dwelt, uh thus dwelt Esau in Mount Seir. Esau, um is Edom. Esau is Edom. And these are the generations of Esau and Esau, the father of the Edomites, uh in Mount Seir. And these are the names of Esau's son, Elphaz, the son of Ada, the wife of Esau, Rule, the son of Bashemeth the son of Esau, and the sons of Ellipsas were Timon, Omar, Zepho, Godam, and Kinax, and Tinmah was concubine to Ellipsah, or Eliphaz, Esau's sons, and she bare to Eliphaz Amalek. These were the sons of Adah, Esau's wife. And these were the sons of Rul and Nahath and Zerah and Shamah and Mizah. These were the sons of Bashemeth Esau's wife. And these were the sons of Aholimabam. Aholimabam. Aholabamah, the daughter of Ana, the daughter of Zebon, Esau's wife, and she bare to Esau Jaush and Jalam and Korah. These are the dukes of the sons of Esau, the sons of Eliphaz, the firstborn son of Esau, Duke Tinmen, Duke Omar, Duke Zipha, Duke Henaz, Duke Zorhar, Zorah, Duke Gadam, Duke Amal, and Duke Amalek. These are the dukes that came from Eliphaz in the land of Edom. These were the sons of Ada. And these are the sons of Ruel, Esau's sons, Duke Nahat, Duke Zerbah, Duke Shamah, Duke Miza. These are the dukes that came from Rule in the land of Edom. These are the sons of Bashemeth, Esau's wife. And these are the sons of Aholobama. Yes.
SPEAKER_00Would these dukes be is that like a family name, Duke? Or is that like dukes or like little dukes? I think it's like a title that was equivalent back to man. Like like your title was how much land you owned. Like Jacob was Israel, so Esau owned land in Canaan. So Duke Cora. So a Duke is like a controller or a ruler of a piece of land. So so Duke Cora owned this land, and Duke Gotham owned. Okay. So we're gonna say that's right because we don't have Google and we can't rely on AI this week. So I may. That's probably right. We're just gonna make up whatever. So we're we're theorizing.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, you'll have to double check it for yourselves. Or no.
SPEAKER_00Who cares? Alright. Where are we at? Okay. This is a week where we can be right or wrong, and it doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_01Oh yeah, we'll figure it out. We'll we'll double check if we need to next week. So and these are the sons of Aholabambah. Aholobabam. Stop it. Oh come on. Esau's wife, Duke Jehush, Duke Jalam, Duke Korah. These are the Dukes that came from Aholabama, the daughter of Anna, Esau's wife. These are the sons of Esau, who is Edom, and these are their dukes. These are the sons of Seir, the Horites, who inhabited the land. Lodan and Shobel and Zebon and Anna. And Deshan and El Ezir and Dishon, these are the Dishan. So you have Dishon and Dishhan. These are the dukes of the Horites, the children of Seir in the land of Edom. And the children of Lodan were Horai and Heman, and Latin's sister was Timnah. And these children of Shobal were these, Alvin and Manahath and Ebal, Shepho, and Onam. And these are the children of Zebon, both Ijah and Anna. And was that this was that Anna that found the mules in the wilderness as he fed the asses of Zebion his father. Or Zibion his father. No, Anna. Anna is the uh or Anna found the mules in the wilderness. And yeah. So and children of Anna were these, Dishon and Aholobama, and the daughter of Anna. And these are the children of Dishon, Himdan and Ishban, and Ethran and Chiran. The children of Izar are these, Bilhan and Zaban and Akan. The children of Dishon are these, Uz and Aran, Duke Lodan, Duke Shabel, Duke Zebian, Duke Anna, Duke Dishon, Duke Ezir, Duke Dishon, Dishon and Dishon. Duke Dishon, Duke Ezar, Duke Dishon. These are the Dukes that come from Horai among the Dukes in the land of Seir. And these are the kings that reigned in the land of Edom before there reigned any kings over the children of Israel. And Bella, the son of Beor, reigned in Edom, and the name of the city was Dinah Dinhaba. And Bella died, and Joabab, and Joab, the son of Zarah, or Bo Bozra, reigned in his stead. And Joab died, and Hashem and the land died, and Joab died, and Hashem of the land of Timani, Timanai, reigned in his stead. And Hashman died, and Hadad, the son of Badad, the son of Badad, Badad, who smote who smote Midian in the field of Moab, reigned in his stead, and the name of his city was Aith.
SPEAKER_00I got you. And Hadad died, and Samla of Mesreka, Masrikah, reigned in his stead. And Samlah died. And Saul of Rehuboth by the river reigned in his stead. And Saul died, and Baal Baalhan? Yeah. Wow. It's not a good name to have back then, Baal. Probably not. It's probably named after that, yeah, after that guy. The son of Akbor reigned in his stead. And Balanan, the son of Akbor, died, and Hagar reigned in his stead. And the name of his city was Pooh. And his wife's name was Mehatazbel. The daughter of Matron. The daughter of Mezahab. I feel like, um, what's that guy? Very nice. I feel like him when I'm reading these names. It's hard to say someone, man. Mezab, Baba. And these are the names of the dukes that came of Esau, according to their families, after their places by the names Duke Timnach, Duke Alva, Duke Jeth, Duke Ah, Duke Elah, Duke Henon, Duke Knaz, Duke Timon, Duke Midbazar, Duke Magville, Duke Iran. These be the Dukes of Edom according to their habitations in the land of their possessions. He is Esau, the father of the Edomites.
SPEAKER_01Now see, you're not gonna get this quality Bible study anywhere else. This is why nobody else reads the genealogies, just for the record. Yeah. So it's not very fun. Well, nobody can say the names. Nobody wants to look like an idiot on YouTube. That's right. So you're getting the service, you won't get anywhere else. Yeah.
SPEAKER_00We're fine with looking like idiots.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, we're good at it.
SPEAKER_00We walk around all the time.
SPEAKER_01So that is chapter 36. Um, that seems to be just describing the line of the Edenites. Yeah. Well, it's the genealogy. The genealogy, yeah.
SPEAKER_00So that's called Genesis. What could you go? What could you go? So basically. Uh, we're doing 37. I guess we're doing 37. I don't have a plot, so I don't have been running plants around about 30 minutes on Genesis. Let's run another uh Yeah, let's go one more third. Chapter 37. I can take over your life. Just give me a second to drink something, right? And Jacob dwelt in the land wherein his father was a stranger in the land of Canaan. These are the generations of Jacob. Joseph, being 17 years old, was feeding the flock and his brethren. He was feeding his brothers. That's a little strange. I should say providing. And the lad and the lad was with the sons of Bilah, with the with the sons of Zilpah, his father's wives, and Joseph brought unto his father their evil report. Now Israel loved Joseph more than all of his children because he was the son of his old age. And he made him a coat of many colors. And when his brethren saw that their father loved him more than all his brethren, they hated him and could not speak peaceably unto him. Wait, is this the Joseph? Yes, this is the Joseph. Sweet. Yeah. That Joseph. The Joseph. That Joseph, yes. And Joseph, dream a dream. That happens when you dream. You dream dreams. Did you know that? Yes, it's a particular dream. Yeah. Sometimes you can dream.
SPEAKER_01I better read the dream.
SPEAKER_00Have you ever tried lucid dreaming?
SPEAKER_01Have I tried lucid dreaming? I could when I was younger. I can't now.
SPEAKER_00It's fun. I smoke too much pottery. Don't do it. It'll keep you up at night. Alright. It's a little demonic, I gotta say. From what I looked at.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_00Um okay. Joseph dreamed a dream, and he told it to his brethren, and they hated him yet the more. And he said unto them, Hear I pray you this dream which I dreamed. For behold, we were binding sheaves in the field. And lo, my sheaf arose, and also stood upright. And behold, your sheaves stood round about and made obious obese obeies.
SPEAKER_01Obese to to thy shit to thy to my sheep.
SPEAKER_00Does that mean they obeyed? Yeah, they became sub they became uh subjugated or subservient. Yeah. So he had a bigger sheath. And his brethren said to him, Shalt thou indeed reign over us, or shalt thou indeed have dominion over us? And they handed him yet more for his dreams and for his words. And he dreamed yet another dream and told it his brethren. He said, Behold, I have dreamed a dream more. And behold, the sun and the moon and the eleven stars made obeisance to me. Hey, we may not have Google, but we do have indexes. We do have indexes. And we can use the index. It might take some time. But we have a lot of dead air. A lot of dead air there. But yeah. And he told it to his father. And to his brethren. If you see a word you don't you don't understand, look it up in the index while while whoever's reading. Yeah. And then boom. And to his brethren. And then his father rebuked him, and he said unto him, What is this dream that thou hast dreamed? Shall I and thy mother and thy brethren indeed come to bow down ourselves to thee to the earth? And his brethren envied him. But his father observed the same. And his brethren went to feed their father's flock in Sheshim. And Israel said unto Joseph, Do not thy brethren feed the flock of Sheshem? Come, and I will send thee unto them. And he said to him, Here am I.
SPEAKER_01And he said to him, Go, I pray thee, see whether it be well with thy brethren, and well with the flocks, and bring me word again. So he sent him out of the vale of Hebron Hebron, and he came to Shechem. And a certain man found him, and behold, he was wandering in the field, and the man asked him, saying, What seekest thou? And he said, I seek my brethren. Tell me, I per tell me, I pray thee, where they were they feed their flocks. And the man said, They are departed hence, for I heard them say, Let us go to Dothan. And Joseph went after his brethren and found them in Dothan. And when they saw him afar off, even before he came near unto them, they conspired against him to slay him. And they said to one another, Behold, this dreamer cometh. Come now therefore, and let us slay him, and cast him into some pit, and we will say some evil beast hath devoured him, and we shall see what will become of his dreams. And Reuben heard it, and he delivered him out of their hands, and said, Let us not kill him. And Reuben said unto them, Shed no blood, but cast him into this pit that is in the wilderness, and lay no hand upon him, that he might rid him out of their hands to deliver him to his father again. And it came to pass when Joseph was come unto his brethren, that they stripped they stripped Joseph out of his coat, his coat of many colours, and that was on him, and they took him and cast him into a pit, and the pit was empty. There was no water in it. And they sat down to eat bread, and they lifted up their eyes and looked, and beheld a company of Ishmaelites came from Gilead, with their camels bearing spicery and balm and myrrh, going to carry it down to Egypt. And Judah said unto his brothers, What prophet is it if we slay our brother and conceal his blood? Come, let us sell him to the Ishmaelites, and let not our hands be upon him, for he is our brother and our flesh, and his brethren were content. Then there passed by many merchant, many merchant, merchantmen. And they drew and lifted up Joseph out of the pit and sold Joseph to and sold Joseph to the Ishmaelites for twenty pieces of silver. And they brought Joseph into Egypt. And Reuben returned unto the pit, and behold, Joseph was not in the pit, and he rent his clothes, and he returned unto his brethren and said, The child is not, and I whither shall I and whither shall I go? And they took Joseph's coat and killed the kid of the goats, and killed the kid of the goats, and dipped the coat in the blood. And they sent the coat of many colours, and they brought it, and they sent the coat. Of many colors, and they brought it to their father and said, This we have found. Know now whether it be thy son's coat or no. And he knew it and said, It is my son's coat. An evil beast hath devoured him. Joseph is without rent is without doubt rent in pieces. And Jacob rent his clothes and put sackcloth sackcloth upon his loins and mourned for his son many days. And all his sons and all his daughters rose up to comfort him, but he refused to be comforted. And he said, For I will go down into the grave unto my son mourning. Thus his father wept for him. And the many a knights sold him into Egypt unto Potiphar, an officer of Pharaoh and captain of the guards. And that is episode thirty or episode chapter 37. Chapter 37. Chapter 37. So yeah.
SPEAKER_00Indeed. Cool. No comments. Any thoughts? Good to go. Um no, not really at all. Nothing really. Some serious jealousy issues there, I guess. Yeah, for sure, but all I got. I didn't uh you know usually something pops out at me, but would would killing the kid, the goat, be counted as a sacrifice? No. No. No, they were just I doubt they yeah, I don't think it was a sacrifice. So that's interesting. I mean because that's like that's uh that's calories back there. Because like you had to pay for your sin. So like any animal was uh value, it was currency, right? They were red, so so that's fair. Yeah. Okay. I don't know. I don't think there's anything. Just to kill one for no reason. I don't know.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, no, I I hear you.
SPEAKER_00I hear you.
SPEAKER_01So alright. That's we'll do one more. Another chapter of Genesis. Uh let's see which one this is. Actually, no, I want to wait on this one because this one's kind of in-depth, actually. So it's one of the more controversial stories. If I remember it's Genesis 38, help me not forget because apparently I thought I was two chapters behind and my two chapters behind in my head.
SPEAKER_02I looked on last week's live stream and it only says 33. But we went ahead and did three chapters last week. Uh let's know what it was. So 33 is all on the live stream. Okay. From last week. That would explain it. That would explain it. Okay.
SPEAKER_01So we did this week 35 through uh 37, so we'll be on 38 next week. We hope you enjoyed this episode of Faith Fiction and Folklore.
