It's incredibly frustrating for me to speak with telemarketers who assume I can understand them if they come from the same country as my father did.
But I was not taught by my father to speak nor read his language.
Whereas my mother only knows how to speak British English.
The telemarketers accent was very strong, so it was hard for me to understand them.
When I figured out they were selling solar panels, I told them I didn't own this house.
Then they hung up on me instead of thanking me for my time.
Being hung up on is disrespectful given that I answered the call which I didn't recognize.
If you're a company outsourcing telemarketer calls to agencies who contract telemarketers and virtual assistants whose English is not their first language or they have not gone to English school; please keep this in mind if your sales conversion rates are low.
Do not assume potential customers who have the same last name as your telemarketers are able to speak the same language as your telemarketers.
