Campus and Character Podcast
Welcome to the Campus and Character Podcast—the show where leadership comes to life at the intersection of sports and education.
On this podcast, we explore the stories, experiences, and lessons that shape leaders on and off the field. From coaches and educators to athletes and administrators, we dig into the moments that build character, strengthen communities, and create real impact.
Our goal is simple: to inspire meaningful conversations and connect people who believe leadership is more than a title—it’s a way of living. Whether you’re in a classroom, a locker room, or somewhere in between, this is a place to learn, grow, and lead with purpose. This is the Campus and Character Podcast—where leadership, sports, and education meet.

In this episode of the Campus and Character Podcast, host David M. welcomes two dynamic student leaders from Commonwealth University’s Bloomsburg campus: Hannah and Lauralei. Together, they share their academic journeys, leadership experiences, and involvement across campus.
Hannah, a communication studies major with double minors in health communication and sport management, originally arrived at Bloomsburg interested in medical imaging. After discovering a passion for communication through a first-year seminar, she shifted her path and now combines her interests in athletics and health promotion. She serves as vice president of the National Communication Association Student Club (NCASC), works in athletics communications, and is a certified peer educator with the Office of Student Wellbeing.
Lauralei, a psychology major with minors in communication studies and Black studies, followed her curiosity into interdisciplinary learning. Inspired by courses in interpersonal communication and anti-racism, she embraced opportunities that aligned with her passion for social justice and her goal of becoming a school psychologist. She serves as NCASC treasurer and is also a resident assistant and marching band member.
Both students participate in the William and Elizabeth Bent Leadership Program, where they are mentored by alumni and explore values-based leadership. They reflect on how mentors, professors, and lived experiences have shaped their leadership styles, emphasizing that there is no single “right” way to lead.
The episode also highlights NCASC’s upcoming Communication Day on March 11, featuring campus speakers and an internship panel designed to connect students with professional opportunities.
From time-management tips and follow-up email advice to favorite study spots and beloved pets, this conversation showcases how involvement, intentional habits, and community engagement help students grow as leaders in both character and career.
